And the behavior of the Cross-version is equally decent both on asphalt and on a summer cottage, which is a merit of the modified suspension. Thanks to the gas-filled shock absorbers, the front wheel track increased by 4 mm, the reinforced rear point of the engine and the steering rack, it was possible to improve handling and raise the information content of the suspension - steering wheel - driver link. The suspension improved together with colleagues in the alliance led to an increase in ground clearance by 16 mm, and another 7 mm appeared after the installation of wheels with an increased radius - R15 / 185/55. They are soft enough for unpaved tracks and moderately tough for asphalt.

Adaptation to Russian conditions

The station wagon is well prepared for the Russian operating conditions, but not at all by 5 points. It has no four-wheel drive and is not expected, there is no steering wheel heating, and you have to pay extra for the Era-Glonass alarm button. But there is a heated 1st row seats, side mirrors and a windshield, a climate system, a spare wheel drive on a 14-inch steel disc, and most importantly - a competitive, almost 20-centimeter ground clearance. Comfort

There are definitely more changes in the interior of the Kalina Cross than in the exterior. The first thing that catches your eye is the orange inlays and trim with orange stitching on the seats and door panels. The rims of the side air ducts and the insert on the steering wheel have a similar color (it must be borne in mind that the interior is also available in gray). The Cross chairs were equipped with a high leg cushion, a new frame and a denser filler, due to which the lateral and lumbar support improved (you don't jump out of the chair when making sharp turns). On the one hand, the new configuration of the seats is good, but on the other hand, it is good only for people of "standard" build, and those who are larger will have to adapt to the sidewalls that support the back. Adjustment of the steering column for reach, unfortunately, is not provided, but its absence is slightly compensated by the increased volume of the seats.


In general, the impressions of the revised Kalina interior are positive. Without losing free space for riders and retaining the entire volume of the luggage compartment, it has become more practical and comfortable. The amount of extraneous noise has significantly decreased - in order to achieve this effect, vibration and noise insulation materials were added to the car in the area of ​​the floor and the engine compartment, rubber seals were installed in places where they simply did not exist before, and also the door trim at the points of their attachment to body "hedgehogs" (and the "hedgehogs" themselves, too). An additional contribution to acoustic comfort was made by sound-absorbing rear fenders integrated into the rear wheel arches - from their supply, the noise from stones and lumps of dirt flying from under the wheels is almost not annoying.


In terms of reliability, Kalina Cross cannot be called an excellent. Firstly, because there is one airbag in the "base" - for the driver. You have to pay extra for a pillow for the front passenger, and there are no other airbags at all. Secondly, the rear riders have only two head restraints by default - the third is offered only for a surcharge. And thirdly, of the electronic assistants, only emergency braking assistance (BAS) and brake force redistribution (EBD), and anti-lock braking system (ABS) are available. The 8-valve unit produces 87 hp. and 140 Nm, working in tandem with a cable 5-speed "mechanics", and the 16-valve engine develops 106 hp. and 148 Nm, combined with both a manual transmission and a VAZ 5-speed "robot" AMT. According to the manufacturer, the average fuel consumption, depending on the modification, ranges from 6.5 to 6.6 liters. for 100 km, but actual figures may differ. After the Kalina 2 got up, got a plastic body kit and got bigger wheels, it could not help but lose in dynamics. To compensate for the weight, the VAZ employees changed the gear ratio of the main pair in the 5-speed manual transmission: it was 3.7, but now it is 3.9. The well-known brand Lada Kalina is a passenger car manufactured by AvtoVAZ, produced since November 2004.

The model is one of the ten most popular cars in Russia, it is produced not only in Togliatti, but also at the car plant in Ust-Kamenogorsk (Kazakhstan).

The assembly of the first generation Kalina was carried out until the spring of 2013, the car was produced in hatchback, sedan and station wagon bodies.

In May of the same 2013, a new project Lada Kalina 2 was launched into a series, but this model has already begun to be produced in only two body versions - a station wagon and a hatchback.

The Kalina Cross modification appeared in 2014, and although it is based on the Universal, it has a number of significant differences.

The Cross front suspension is conventional - standard MacPherson strut.
