Frame installation

If you choose wood, treat it with an antiseptic before installation. The lower trim is assembled from 100 by 50 timber, connections are made in each corner using a notch and dowels. The roofing must be installed in accordance with all the rules so that the roof can withstand the snow load. For a two-car garage, it is better to build a gable-type frame with identical slopes.

A frame house (garage) is lighter than a brick or aerated concrete house, so it does not require a strong foundation. Accordingly, its cost is lower. A frame garage can be built gradually as funds become available. You can make a frame garage yourself, in whole or in part, and that’s what we did. A frame garage is warmer than one made of aerated concrete or brick of similar wall thickness.

In 2015, it was time to build the garage itself on the foundation.

First, we brought in farms - they were made in a specialized company. This subsequently simplified installation, since it was not necessary to mount the parts one at a time at a height.

Then onto the beam bottom trim Liquid waterproofing was applied.

After this, the beam was turned over and attached to the monolithic foundation. Waterproofing prevents moisture from penetrating into the wood and thereby protects it from rotting.


Important point! When pouring a monolithic foundation, you need to make sure that it is 5-10 cm higher than the ground level (covering) adjacent to the garage - see photo on the left. This is necessary to prevent water from seeping under the frame after rains and melting snow. And the OSB wall slab must be attached to the frame with an overlap on the foundation.

Next, we assembled the garage walls directly on the foundation. One person did this. First, he sawed the boards (planed, size 150x40) to size. Then I placed the boards on the surface of the foundation and began assembling the wall slabs. The garage has a size of 6.5x11.5 m. The 6.5 m end wall was made of one slab, and the long side walls were made of two slabs each - this was to make it easier to lift and install the slabs.

The slabs consist of two strapping boards (top and bottom) and racks located between the strappings with an interval of 58 cm. This interval is needed to simplify the insulation process. The basalt insulation is 60 cm wide and therefore it will fit between the racks at will.

The boards were fastened together using a pneumatic nail gun.


We join the boards, lean the air gun, pressing the trigger and nail fastens the boards. The frame of the wall panels was immediately made so that windows and doors were provided in it.


After the panel frame is ready, we attach OSB (oriented strand board) boards to the top of it. We attach the slabs to the posts using a pneumatic staple gun.


We lay out the OSB boards on the frame, level them, apply a pneumatic gun at intervals of 30 cm, press the trigger and the bracket attaches the board to the frame. The process of installing the wall panel is very quick, since there is no need to manually hammer nails or screw in screws.

After the first wall panel is ready, we assemble the next panel on top of it.


The last thing we assemble is the end wall panel.

At the very end, we attach OSB boards to the two end trusses.

After this, we mount the top frame, which will be installed on top of the walls - the trusses will be attached to it.


We screw the corners to the harness at the appropriate intervals necessary for installing the trusses.

Then we mount the top part of the front wall, which will be located above the garage door.

All panels are ready, let's start installing them. We install the end wall panel first; four people do this. We temporarily strengthen the panel with supports.

Then we alternately place two panels of one long wall, then the other. At the corners of the panels we attach them to each other with self-tapping screws.

After this we place the panel above the gate.



The base is assembled.


Then we nail the roof sheathing boards to the trusses.

And locally we assemble the frame of the front wall from the sides of the gate.

We drag OSB boards onto the roof and attach them to the sheathing.



Next we install the roofing. We roll out the backing on the roof, attach it to the slabs, install wind boards and install flexible tiles.




Finally, we install the drainage system.

After this, the frame is considered conditionally ready and the garage can already be used.

But we are moving forward in terms of construction. We insert insulation from the inside between the frame posts. We place it in three layers (the thickness of the basalt insulation is 50 mm) with an offset so that subsequent layers overlap the joints in the previous ones.

After this, we install a vapor barrier film on the walls.


Next, we line the inside walls with OSB boards. We install them so that the joints fall on the frame racks (for this, at the planning stage, we make the rack placement scheme accordingly). We also attach the slabs to the racks with staples using a pneumatic gun.


The photo shows that two walls are already completely ready, and one is insulated. The car is fully ready for housewarming.

Then we also line the ceiling with OSB boards. The roof trusses are placed so that they fit at the joints of the slabs. Therefore, the installation of the ceiling proceeds quite quickly. We lift the slab, put it in place and shoot the staples with a pneumatic gun.

Each row of slabs is immediately insulated with basalt wool. This is easier than then dragging insulation along the ceiling.


And so the insulation comes quickly and easily from the scaffolding.

When filing last row You can’t install insulation from scaffolding anymore. To do this, we leave a hole in the end truss, make insulation through it and close the hole.

That's it, the ceiling is ready. Next, we install a partition separating the garage and the workshop.

To do this, we install trim around the perimeter of the partition frame, and cover the bottom board with waterproofing from below.


Then we install the racks, attach OSB boards to them on one side, install insulation on the other and also attach the boards.

Next, they proceed to laying wall sheets of corrugated sheets on a wooden frame. Three-meter sheets are sewn onto the horizontal beams of the walls using similar self-tapping screws. We seal the joint line between the corrugated sheets and the sheathing with sealant. The back wall of the garage is sewn up in the same way.
