The premiere of the production version of the Alpine A110 coupe took place

The new Alpine car is great news. A concept that is eager to fight...

Renault Alpine A110-50 Concept Makes Hell of a Rumble This is a rare compliment for a concept car, because most of them don't make any sound at all. They can only show off on the stands of car dealerships, hiding fake engines and conceptual dynamics under a pomaded body that will fall to pieces at the mere sight of the road. But the A110-50 is not like most concepts.

The A110-50 was introduced to the world on Friday before the Monaco Grand Prix. He smoked rear wheels, exiting the starting line with a sweeping drift, and then rushed along the formula track with the cutting squeal of the car at triple-digit speed. At the wheel is Renault CEO Carlos Tavares. AND Top Gear was present at this. My ears are still ringing.

So, what is A110-50? Nominally and officially – a concept. Built to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Alpine 110 Berlinette, probably the most famous sports car in Renault history. But no matter how important the occasion, the concept itself is much more important. It is a public application from Renault engineers and designers to produce a sports car. An attempt to show the company's accountants that there is demand for the rear-wheel drive two-seater Renault and there will be a profit.

Past

After a series of road-going rear-engined coupes, Alpine released the A110 in 1962. The car was a hit, its lightweight fiberglass body and nimbleness were highly praised by drivers

The A110 gained worldwide fame in racing, winning the first WRC in 1973, and then went on to win the Lancia Stratos. On next year Alpine became part of Renault

After winning Le Mans in 1978, attempts to propel Alpine into the top end of the market failed. The brand died in 1994

This car is a huge shining announcement: “Come on, you bastards, just try not to let us do this.” They are desperate to build it. Over the past few years, there have been at least two unsuccessful attempts to bring a sports car from Renault to market. And company bosses told Top Gear that a cool two-seater must be made this time, if only for the sake of the brand's honor (and no, the Renault Wind doesn't count).

"We have great story in Formula 1, but we can’t address it,” admits chief designer Laurens van den Acker. “We need to fix our image.” A sports car is a definite plus for your image, but it’s not a particularly good way to make money quickly. A lot will have to be designed, a new architecture is needed - especially since the manufacturer of front- and all-wheel drive cars is building a rear-wheel drive one. After all, it will never be sold in such volumes as a city car or a family hatchback.

WE DID NOT WANT A REANULTSPORT WITH THE ALPINE LABEL, BUT A REAL RACE CAR

So, how - especially a company like Renault, which is by no means bursting with the influx of money - build a sports car? Bribe your CEO - an experienced pilot - allowing him to fulfill his childhood dream: to race in a racing car around Monaco. Not a bad start. (“There was some tension,” Tavares smiled, after completing four laps in the unique concept for 2 million euros. “But it was great. It’s a very difficult track.”)

So what is next? Make a lot of noise, in every sense. Poisonous orange inserts, a huge wing. Release it in the middle of the Monaco Grand Prix. Give its exhaust a racing sound that will make your ears wilt. He lives, breathes, rides! Such a concept cannot be shelved. “We didn’t want to make a RenaultSport with an Alpine label,” says Renault concept department head Axel Breun, “but a real racing car.”

The curvy body of the A110-50 and convex doors are reminiscent of the DeZir electric concept, but the car is built on Megane database Trophy, a car with a space frame. And he's just as serious racing car like a dragster Top Fuel. The car has a racing 400-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 with rear wheels and a 6-speed sequential gearbox. Unfortunately, the engineers forgot to install silencers. That's where this eardrum-bursting roar comes from. But the fact that it has a racing ancestor does not mean that the car will not become a road car, says Broin. In fact, it's quite the opposite. “In the history of Renault, such projects began with motorsport. Remember the Clio V6...

The production-ready version of the Alpine concept, Breun says, will not be based on tubular frame Megane Trophy. He admits that he may need to new platform. Most likely it will be built at the RenaultSport plant in Dieppe, which used to be own factory Alpine. Interesting twist.

The racing V6 will not be left to the detriment of the ears, but not the wallet. The production Alpine will most likely be equipped with a version of the 2-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine from the RenaultSport Megane. In a hot hatch this engine makes 250bhp and can easily be boosted to 300 or so. The small engine is true to the Alpine philosophy: that car had a liter Renault engine, and the low power was compensated by the weight - less than 620 kg. So Renault is going to make a production Alpine no heavier than a ton.

THIS IS NOT JUST A RETRODESIGN. THIS IS A MODERN INTERPRETATION

And here's another good news: Tavares confirmed that the finished Alpine will remain rear-wheel drive. “Car companies should continue to make cars that teenagers will want to stick pictures of on their walls,” agrees Van den Acker. “Electricity is not the best solution for everyone.”

Is the A110-50 worthy of the honor of being featured on a poster? Yes, but - a worthy interpretation of a brilliant ancestor, for better or worse. There are a few nods to the original A110: dual LED nose rings, Alpine copy headlights, curved rear window and blue color. “It's not just a retro design,” admits Broin. “At Renault we prefer to look forward rather than look back. But again, we have so much legendary that it would be stupid not to turn to the past. This is a modern interpretation.”

In fact, if you peel off the concept's decor, you'll be left with a sports car with correct proportions, with contours reminiscent of the Lotus Exige. Car brands starting with the letter “L” are constantly mentioned when Renault bosses discuss possible price Alpine sports car. “We will have to be cheaper and lighter than supercars,” says Van den Acker. “When people imagine an Alpine, they don’t think of it as a €120,000 sports car.”

Renault considers the Lotus Elise to be a benchmark in terms of price and equipment. “I think the car shouldn’t be too luxurious,” agrees Broin. “Every time Renault and Alpine tried to be luxurious, it turned out worse and worse.”

So, a lightweight, spartan, rear-wheel drive sports car will be built if demand arises. What are you waiting for? Come on, write, call, demand from Renault - and we may get it.

All available versions of the car with left-hand drive are reserved in just 5 days after the opening of applications for the new Alpine A110 in December 2016; right-hand drive versions can still be ordered.

Our readers may have several questions reasonable questions about the new model of the French company Renault with such an unusual name - Alpina.
Firstly, why was the model named Alpine A110?
Secondly, I wonder why the model’s circulation is 1955 copies?
Thirdly, what exactly is the new Renault product offered for such a high price?

New two-door coupe The 2017 Alpine A110 is named after the rally car. Renault car Alpine A110 (1962-1977), created on the basis of the civilian sports car Alpine A108 (1958-1965). Over fifteen years of production, 7,176 examples of the Alpine A110 were produced for racing and rallying. In 1971 and 1973, drivers driving the Alpine A110 Berlinetta won the European and World Rally Championships. So the modern Renault Alpine A110 has something to offer, and the coupe’s pedigree is in perfect order.

The limited edition of the new product perpetuates 1955 - the founding date of the Alpine company, which, by the way, has been under the control of Renault since 1978. However, in 1995 the French manufacturer abandoned production sports cars under the Alpina brand, giving preference in production to compact sports cars Renault Sport. Twelve years later in 2007 after the death of Jean Redele, the founder of the Alpine sports and racing car company, in the depths of Renault they started talking about recreating the brand, but only in the spring of 2016 the world saw the launch of the new Alpine A110.

But the cost of the new product may seem high only to the uninitiated car enthusiast. The new Alpine A110 coupe from Renault is a modern, high-tech and unique car. So the price is real, especially considering the cost of the main competitor - the mass-produced Porsche 718 Cayman with a price tag of 51,600 euros in its native Germany (in Russia the price is from 3,811 thousand rubles).

Let's start with the most important thing, technical characteristics French coupe Alpine A110 2017-2018. Within the base of the sports car, a turbocharged 1.8-liter gasoline four-cylinder engine (250 hp 320 Nm) is installed, transmitting traction to the rear wheels through a robotic box with two clutch discs 7 DCT, specially developed for the coupe by Getrag specialists. The engine power may not be particularly impressive, but... the coupe's curb weight is only 1080 kg. So the dynamics of acceleration from 0 to 100 mph in 4.5 seconds are truly sports car-like. Maximum speed limited by electronic collar to 248 km/h (155 mph).

Weight distribution along the axles shows 44% on the front wheels and 56% on the rear. The suspension of all wheels is independent, there is a Driver modes system (Normal, Sport and Track), which allows you to select the optimal mode for setting the components and assemblies of the car.

Such a meager curb weight of the car is achieved by many original technical solutions. The body of the Renault Alpine consists of 96% aluminum parts; the flat bottom made it possible to abandon the spoiler, which not only adds extra pounds, but deprives the rear of the coupe of smooth lines. Forged aluminum 18-inch wheels from Otto Fuchs are used. And the driver and passenger bucket seats were specially designed by Sabelt specialists with a simply ridiculous weight, each weighing only 13.1 kg!!! Brake system Brembo with aluminum calipers and compact built-in rear brake mechanisms parking brake, allowing you to lose 2.5 kg compared to the traditional design.

When developing the body of the serial coupe, prototypes of the new product simply lived in a wind tunnel. Engineers and designers were faced with the task of creating not only an attractive and stylish two-door, but also endowing the model with excellent aerodynamic characteristics.
Drag coefficient aerodynamic resistance the body is 0.32 Cx, and the exterior design of the body is amazing. On the one hand, the sports two-door coupe looks modern and stylish, and on the other hand, the designers tried to preserve as much as possible the features and proportions of the body in the image of the new product. legendary model Renault Alpine A110 60-70 years of the last century.

The new Renault Alpina A110 captivates with its stylish appearance with the classic proportions of a two-door coupe body, LED headlights and side lamps, soft lines and curvaceous shapes. At the same time, the new product is very compact and looks like a toy, of course, until the motor is activated with a special button. When the engine starts, not only the owner, but also those around him will understand that this is a real sports car with a characteristic timbre. exhaust system.

  • External dimensions The 2017-2018 Alpine A110 bodies are 4178 mm long, 1798 mm wide and 1252 mm high.
  • The body of the French coupe is painted in three possible options colors: Blanc Solaire (white), Alpine Blue (signature Alpine blue) and Noir Profond (black).

The two-seater interior of the new product hints in every detail that this is the interior of a sports car. There is a highly informative digital instrument panel, compact with a rim trimmed at the bottom steering wheel, bucket seats with combined leather trim, aluminum pads on the pedals and rest area for the left foot, a floating central tunnel with control buttons for the robotic gearbox, as if taken from the salon. The French did not forget to install a modern multimedia complex with a large touch screen, premium music (Focal audio system) and decorative carbon fiber inserts.

For the coupe, by the way, there are a lot of options for personalizing the interior. Various combinations of materials, color solutions, decorative inserts and, of course, a long list of options.

Alpine A110 2017-2018 video test

Through efforts Renault-Nissan Alliance French brand Alpine is alive again! On Geneva Motor Show presented the first car of the revived brand - a small two-seater coupe A110.

The same name was given to the most famous model company from Dieppe - tiny with a plastic body and units from the Renault R8 subcompact car (Alpine has always been in close relations with Renault). Body new car quite accurately repeats the contours of the historical prototype - but technically, of course, there is nothing in common between them.

The sports car is extremely compact: it is only 4178 millimeters long - more than twenty centimeters less than Porsche Cayman. The body itself is made of aluminum, the individual parts are connected to each other by welding, riveting or glue. The designers managed to keep the weight of the car at just 1080 kilograms!

The power unit is located in the base, transversely in front of the rear wheels. Four-cylinder engine 1.8 is borrowed from the arsenal of the Renault-Nissan alliance, but has been worked on Renault specialists Sport - they designed an original intake, a different turbocharger and “their own” exhaust system. As a result, the engine at its peak develops 252 hp, maximum torque - 320 Nm. It is equipped with a seven-speed Getrag robotic gearbox with two wet clutches. This is probably new transmission- the most durable of the Getrag “robots” currently produced, model 7DCT300, is designed for no more than 320 Nm.

Due to its light weight, the Alpine A110 in terms of power output (231 hp per ton) is just between significantly more powerful Porsche 718 Cayman and Cayman S. According to the passport, the French coupe is capable of reaching 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, and the top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.

The Alpine A110 will be assembled at the historic Dieppe factory, now owned by Renault Sport. The first 1,955 cars will be produced in a single Première Edition configuration (1955 is the year the Alpine factory was founded). According to preliminary data, the price will be 58,500 euros, but pre-orders have already been received for the entire run of left-hand drive cars.

Only the top sixty dealers will be awarded the right to sell Alpine cars. Renault Groups. Alpine will begin formal orders in the middle of the year, and at the end of 2017 the first cars will be delivered to customers in 11 European countries: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland.

There is not much information about the ongoing development of new cars, but sometimes some “goodies” about the plans of automakers appear on the Internet. And this is why they are valuable.

This time we will talk about the plans of the French car manufacturer Renault Alpine, which intends to introduce not just one, but several new models in 2018.
