We will teach you how to select a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 with mileage.

The 120 model of a full-fledged SUV has gained fame as one of the most indestructible cars in the Russian Federation. Rumors about reliability passed from mouth to mouth between motorists. This is how the army of fans of this SUV model grew. In Russia they were successfully sold as official copies Toyota SUV Land Cruiser Prado 120, both imported by gray dealers, and even used right-hand drive examples from Japan. In this article we will tell you how to choose the right used SUV. Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120.

Today, the cost of a used Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 is comparable to the price of a new Lada Vesta car. However, this SUV model, even in used condition, offers much more comfort and driving confidence. But the first copies of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 SUV were released back in 2002 - 14 years ago. This generation of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 SUV was produced for 7 years until 2009. On the secondary automobile market in Russia you can find copies of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 SUV with various gasoline and turbodiesel engines. The simplest turbodiesel produces only a little over 100 Horse power. The most powerful 4.0-liter V6 gasoline engine produces about 250 horsepower. You can also find used Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 SUVs, both with a five- and seven-seat interior.

Body inspection of Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120

In fact, the frame structure causes a lot of trouble for owners of used Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 SUVs. The frame itself rusts much faster than the body. The first traces of rust appear on welding points and body frame holes. If a used Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 SUV was used in Moscow or St. Petersburg, then its frame rusts much faster from salts and chemicals. It may even crack. Remember that it is very difficult to replace the frame on an SUV due to the fact that it is a number plate. The traffic police department in the Russian Federation agrees to rewrite the body frame number only for a bribe. Due to the fact that the vin code was on a plate that was attached to the body with rivets that could be purchased in stores car parts The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 has become very popular among car thieves. After all, it was always possible to replace old car Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 for a stolen copy, simply by changing the VIN code. Also, the frame number was often not indicated in the PTS. This made it much easier for car thieves with Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 cars. Recently, law enforcement agencies have taken up this matter well. Therefore, old copies of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 SUV are sent either for dismantling or to Kazakhstan.

On the body, traces of corrosion often appear on back door trunk, under plastic moldings and body linings, as well as under wheel arch extensions.

The interior of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 received quite a lot of options that were not previously installed in SUVs.

Inspection of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 interior

Too often, owners of used Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 SUVs remove the third row of seats, which interfere with carrying cargo in the trunk. After that, they simply lost that back row of seats and resold the car without it. The main problem in the cabin is climate system. Most quickly, the gear motor of the mixing flaps fails. The cost of a new gearmotor is 5,000 rubles. The interior heater heater motor has a service life of 8 years. A knocking sound in the steering wheel is usually associated with a broken steering column. Another reason for the knock could be a broken universal joint or elastic bushing. Repairing a knock in the steering wheel can cost up to 40,000 rubles.

Inspection of the chassis of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120

The suspensions on the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 SUV are considered very reliable. However, they require regular maintenance. The front suspension without maintenance can easily pull out ball joint, or the spring will simply burst. If a used vehicle has an air suspension, then repairing it will not be too expensive. Pump pneumatic system costs 30,000 rubles, one air spring is estimated at 8,000 rubles. The rubber bands and silent blocks of the suspension of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120 SUV often last no more than six months if it is used in the outback. dirt roads. IN brake system will have to be changed quite often brake pads and disks. The car itself is heavy, and brake mechanisms small.

Toyota suspension Land Cruiser Prado 120 can withstand quite heavy loads.

Inspection of the transmission and engine of Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 120

In order for the 120 SUV transmission to last a long time, you will have to syringe it often cardan shafts. Then they will need to be replaced every 200,000 kilometers. IN automatic transmission gears need to be changed every 60 thousand kilometers transmission oil. The service life of such a machine is up to 300 thousand kilometers. The most popular engine is the 2.7-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine. This motor and other gasoline and diesel engines They are considered reliable and have a long service life. However, owners need to carry out engine maintenance regularly and without delay.

Based on the "hundredth"

Land Cruiser Cygnus- quite a rare occurrence on our roads. Like its widespread Euro-American version Lexus LX470 (first shown in Detroit 1998), it was created on the basis of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100VХ (“One hundred percent…”, “Turbo”, 2004, No. 6). Therefore, having noticed the Lex 4-eyed front end, but with the Toyota “ligature” and a nose mirror - like right-hand drive cars, eyewitnesses slow down in some confusion about identifying the model. In addition, the rear of the Cygnus is slightly different from the Lexus LX470 in terms of rear lights (like the Prado KJ90 series) and the design of a horizontal 2-leaf 5th door, encumbered with an external “spare wheel” for four Bridgestone 275/70R16 wheels. That's probably all the obvious nuances.

The main difference, of course, is inside the golden test sample produced in 1999, which also applies entirely to the mirrored driver's seat.

Through the Looking Glass

The huge tinted salon warmly welcomed us into its leather embrace. Landing on any of the rows, even on the convertible 3rd - semi-official (with a separate climate control panel!), is made easier with the help of footrests. Moreover, access to the driver’s seat was pleasantly surprised by the significant gap between the steering wheel and the seat. It's all about the “smart” steering wheel, which moves horizontally and vertically immediately after activating the ignition. Electronic tuning the chair, keeping in mind one of the positions, adjusts to the figure.

Pleasant beige-gray coloring harmonizes with numerous mahogany inserts and ruffled window curtains. Electric mirrors and door windows, heated seats, climate control and a modern audio system with touch controls are quite consistent with business class. Almost all keys, buttons, levers and pedals are easily accessible and functionally recognizable. According to the classical canons of ergonomics, the most significant control devices(speedometer on the left, tachometer on the right).

If it were not for the right-hand drive layout, which is alien to us and requires getting used to, the cockpit is extremely close to ideal. Excellent visibility is complemented by a faceted mirror on the left wing (expensive, but useful!).

Plate under the hood

Under the heavy heat-sound-insulated alligator-type hood we find power plant- in full accordance with the concept of a plate engine, - decorated with a commemorative inscription V8 4700 and the index 2UZ -FE. Hidden under the aesthetic plastic packaging is nothing more than a 4.7-liter gasoline engine from the Toyota Land Cruiser 100VX (with the Toyota monogram), which also works successfully in the Lexus LX470.

The perfectly balanced 234-horsepower 32-valve “eight” is equally good when moving “pull” through the mud and during sharp starts. It is paired with a time-tested and road-tested 4-speed automatic transmission.

In your element

Full speed ahead!

The dynamics of the car are not much different from the sedate reactions of the “hundredth”. Excellent maneuverability, the same sharp steering, slight roll and enviable smoothness. A significant role here is played by the same permanent all-wheel drive with reduction gear and locking (button on the panel) center differential. Stability is supported by transverse stabilizers and air suspension with 4 shock absorber stiffness adjustments - like the Land Cruiser 100VX. In Lex-style, the position of the body above the road changes stepwise (both forced and automatically, depending on the speed). First, the front rises, then the stern catches up with it. And so on to the very top (+70 mm). Three vertical levels are reflected in a clear pictogram instrument panel. In general, the car corresponds to its current price of 1.5 million rubles. and deserves the attention of potential buyers.

It's probably no secret to anyone what kind of Toyota car Land Cruiser; everyone will say: of course, I know. But if you add here the word Cygnus (Latin - swan), then no matter how hard you try, you won’t be able to remember such a model. So, our guest is the same Land Cruiser Cygnus.

Looks like a regular Lexus LX 470; the only difference is that the steering wheel is on the right, and the spare tire hangs at the stern.

About the space inside: you open the door, and everything is immediately clear - there is no talk of cramped space here. The driver's seat enjoys special privileges. Firstly, the high “Jeep” position allows you to keep the situation on the road under control. Secondly (the most interesting thing), you don’t have to raise and lower the steering wheel every time you get in and out, everything is done automatically. The instrument panel is constantly illuminated and easy to read, with touch screen it’s easy to set the temperature in the cabin, play your favorite song; in general, everything is “on the buttons”. Leather interior sets you up for an imposing ride - especially when you feel the energy-intensive air suspension underneath you, for which city ravines are no obstacle. Having settled comfortably in the driver’s seat, having adjusted the electric seats to suit us, we hit the road.

While driving, you feel how squat (throwback) the car is; imagine: a car weighing about 3 tons (with a load) picks up speed faster than many foreign sports cars. Moreover, the 4.7-liter gasoline engine is practically inaudible in the cabin. Not only does Cygnus attract surprised glances at traffic lights not only from drivers of Lexus LX 470s, but also from owners of inlaid cars with huge “spoilers”. The massive Jeep overtakes them without much effort. Now let's go off-road, for which, in principle, the car is intended. Imagine: rain, wet clay, plus a steep climb. However, there are no obstacles for the “swan”; he gets a little bored in such conditions. The car seems to be without a single flaw; but, as they say, if you love to ride, you also love to carry a sled. We're talking about gasoline: count on more than 20 liters per 100 km. No joke at current prices; but trust me, Cygnus is worth it.

When you first look at the car, what comes to your mind is: “What a huge thing!” And I have no idea how to cope with a hefty, almost 5-meter Land Cruiser. It's good that the gearbox is automatic, easier to control.

Under the well-fed roar of a 4.7-liter engine with a capacity of 235 horsepower, the Cruiser demonstrates hurricane acceleration - by Jeep standards. As we changed lanes from row to row, admiration for the car grew. As you know, the “cruiser” is capable of working wonders off-road, but for all that it remains an excellent “mainline” vehicle. Cygnus maneuvers quickly and accurately, without the “thoughtfulness” inherent in many jeeps. Moving like a smooth snake from row to row, it effortlessly slips between passing vehicles. In other words, despite its monumental dimensions and solid design, the “jeep” is endowed with quite an energetic character.

What's in the cabin? Cygnus is an example of luxury. Leather, wood, climate control, full power accessories, navigation (though in Japanese), touch controls. Even the plastic here is of a higher class than that of other cars. The interior is very cozy and somehow immediately puts you at ease on a long journey. And the 3rd row of seats will allow you to travel with a whole group.

Based on the above, it is not difficult to assume that the Japanese have created a large and comfortable SUV. Not at all: the Toyota Land Cruiser remains a true all-terrain vehicle that can handle many off-road tasks. As befits a purebred “jeep,” the car is built on a powerful frame; it reduces the possibility serious damage chassis on difficult off-road conditions.

The route led out of town. When we turned off the main road onto an adjacent road, we found ourselves in front of an “intricate” section: a clay track after the rain. It wouldn’t hurt to turn on all-wheel drive (plus reduction gear) here. The car is capable of dealing with the most serious off-road conditions. But, to be honest, I didn’t want to go into the heavy “extreme” zone.

When choosing a car, price, of course, matters. But not decisive. The main thing - regardless of financial, political or family circumstances - is the practical purpose vehicle. Toyota Land Cruiser Cygnus, like no other car, meets all the requirements for an all-terrain vehicle. He feels equally confident both on asphalt and on difficult terrain.

A year after the introduction of the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 series, the Land Cruiser Cygnus all-terrain vehicle, known in the United States under the name Lexus LX470, debuted in Japan. Actually, the model was originally created specifically for the North American market, as an alternative to the increasingly popular Jeep Grand Cherokee and Range Rover. Land Cruiser Cygnus shares a platform and basic mechanisms with the Land Cruiser 100, but is more prestigious and features individual body and interior trim.

The most immediately noticeable design element at the front is four headlights instead of two on the standard model. Others - radiator grille, bumper, plastic body kits, sills, side trims and rear combination lamps.

Finishing interior design Cruiser Cygnus is amazing: natural mahogany inserts and excellent quality leather, non-slip and pleasant to the touch. The climate control control unit, unlike the Land Cruiser 100, has buttons, not knobs. Many of the equipment that were offered as options on the 100th are present here as standard. For example, power front seats with multiple adjustments; also equipped with electric drive steering column— in order to make it convenient for the driver to leave the cabin, it moves back and up if the key is removed from the ignition. The instrument panel is very informative. The interior lighting is carefully thought out and varied. Later, as a result of innovations, the design was changed dashboard, a navigator equipped with the G-BOOK telematics system and a color rear view monitor appeared. Since 2005, the design of the radiator grille, rear combination headlights and cast rims. The headlights received a manual leveling function, and the brake lights became LED. Like the “hundredth”, Land Cruiser Cygnus was also offered in special anniversary versions.

Only one power unit was offered for the model - a 4.7 liter petrol engine. This is a V-shaped eight-cylinder 2UZ-FE with a power of 235 hp. The engine has 32 valves, VVTi system, distributed fuel injection, 4 camshafts with chain drive. The maximum torque is quite significant - 422 Nm at 3600 rpm and with decent thrust even in the low rev zone, which is essential when driving at low speeds in difficult road conditions. Permanent all-wheel drive FullTime 4WD - with a symmetrical center differential with rigid forced locking and reduction gear.

The Cygnus suspension design is similar to that used on the top version of the Land Cruiser 100 and is equipped with pneumatic elements. Depending on road conditions and speed, the driver can raise the body or, conversely, lower it lower. In addition, the control system maintains the vehicle in a horizontal position, regardless of the load. The car was equipped as standard with a VGRS active steering system with variable gear ratio depending on the speed of movement. At first, the Land Cruiser Cygnus was equipped with a 4-speed gearbox. Since 2002 on the list standard equipment includes a 5-speed SuperECT transmission.

Given prestige and class, it implies more high level safety of this vehicle. The list of equipment includes: Active TRC active traction control system, directional stability VSC, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Distribution System braking forces EBD, supplemented auxiliary system braking system (BAS), two airbags. Side airbags and curtain airbags are optional.

Toyota Land Cruiser Cygnus, together with its left-hand drive twin Lexus LX 470, is, in fact, the same “hundredth” Land Cruiser, only even better, actually brought to perfection, if one can say so about a model that is already one of the masterpieces of Japanese automotive industry.

History of Toyota Land Cruiser Cygnus

The Toyota Land Cruiser Cygnus SUV model is an elite modification of the popular all-terrain vehicle from Toyota. In Russia, the USA and some other countries, the model is known as the Lexus LX470. The connection of this car to the premium sub-brand Lexus emphasizes the entire elite component and originality of this model.

Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota released this car as a variation of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. The famous “weaving” is supplemented, improved and at the same time has a more premium look.

Initially, this model was created exclusively for the North American automobile market. Toyota Land Cruiser Cygnus was supposed to compete Jeep models Grand Cherokee and Range Rover, which began to rapidly gain popularity.

Japanese engineers used the Land Cruiser 100 platform as the technical basis for this car. The difference between Cygnus is that this SUV had a more prestigious role. The manufacturer has added more individual interior and exterior trim.

One of the main differences between Cygnus and Sotka is the front optics. In this model, the designers decided to choose 4 headlights instead of the traditional 2. The radiator grille, sills, body kits, bumpers, trims and lights are also different.

The model first appeared in 1998. In December, the SUV arrived at dealerships in Japan. The model was intended for domestic market. Toyota engineers created this SUV taking into account the wishes of buyers of cars in the prestigious segment. That is why you can see natural wood and leather in the interior. A DVD player and a rear view camera are also the prerogative of the Toyota Land Cruiser Cygnus.

To belong to premium segment indicates the absence of “knobs” on the climate control control unit. Their functionality has been replaced by buttons. Unlike the “hundredth” Prado, here many equipment elements that were available as an option are already offered as standard.

In 2002, the Japanese manufacturer carried out a restyling. The SUV has become even more solid, improved appearance.

A subsequent restyling took place in 2005, as a result of which the design of the radiator grille became more luxurious. The design of the alloy wheels and rear combination lights has also changed.

  • Off-road vehicle Toyota Land Cruiser Cygnus was created as a premium version of the popular Land Cruiser Prado 100. In some markets, the model is known as the Lexus LX470.
  • This model is based on the Land Cruiser 100 SUV.
  • The main visual difference between the Cygnus and the J100 is 4 headlights instead of the traditional 2. The bumpers, lights, radiator grille, trims and body kits are also different.
  • For ease of entry/exit of the driver, the steering column is equipped with an electric drive. When the car is turned off, the steering column moves up and back.
  • Land Cruiser Cygnus, like its “simpler” relative – 100, is also offered in special anniversary trim levels.

Options

Japanese designers have provided only one engine for this elite and productive SUV. Toyota Land Cruiser Cygnus is powered by a 4.7-liter V-engine that can produce 235 hp. The engine has 8 cylinders, each of which has 4 valves.

Due to good traction in the low speed zone, the Cygnus SUV performs well when driving off-road at low speeds. To more confidently overcome off-road conditions, the manufacturer has provided permanent all-wheel drive.

The suspension is similar to that of the top versions of the Land Cruiser 100 and has pneumatic elements. Vehicle clearance may vary depending on the type of surface, driving mode and other parameters. Range of change ground clearance: 220-270 mm.

The SUV has an excellent active safety system. This is a tribute high class car.

Price

On secondary market Cygnus is valued at 400 thousand - 1.8 million rubles.

Where to buy a car

On this moment The car is out of production. It can be purchased on the secondary market or on electronic platforms on the Internet.

Signus is a zoological category, this is the name of a breed of bird - the great white northern swan. I'm not kidding: I found it in an English-language reference book, and it says so - “Cygnus - big northern swan”. Well, the name is beautiful, but how suitable is it for a heavy all-terrain vehicle?

SWAN WHITE

Land Cruiser Cygnus - appeared on the market in 1998 - first in the USA as the Lexus LX-470, then a little later - in its homeland. There seemed to be only one equipment, but according to the all inclusive principle, in Russian - “sophisticated”: the interior was specially tanned genuine leather, the front panel shells were natural walnut wood or poplar root, electronics and audio were “full stuffing”. And the main highlight is the super suspension: automated ground clearance control and arbitrary control of shock absorber stiffness. The Swans have only one engine - a gasoline 235-horsepower V8 2UZ-FE. Such cars in Japan initially cost a little less than 50 thousand dollars, the latest “improved” modifications have become more expensive - up to $60 thousand. In Russia new Lexus LX-470 is sold at prices starting from $80,000 thousand. This car has been favored by celebrities. It is known, for example, that the famous director Andrei Konchalovsky drives a Lexus LX-470. Are there differences between the American and Japanese versions? Few, and those are only cosmetic - the form of foglights, rear lights and some other little things. A little later than the base version, the “Swan” modification appeared on sale with everything famous diesel 1HD. Are there many “Northern Swans” in Irkutsk? No more than a dozen, and even then if you count both Lexuses and Kruzaks.

Once, I was talking on the side of the road with an old acquaintance - a big fan of Japanese jeeps - he himself operates an old Prado 70 and considers it a “real rogue”. Suddenly, a white LX-470 “solemnly sailed” past us, to which my interlocutor muttered: “The largest Japanese SUV.” These are the ones you need to check! And in general, what does “SUV” mean!? Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems to me that a "SUV" is an all-wheel drive station wagon with high ground clearance, but without off-road delights in the transmission - multipliers, differential locks. That is, with a monocoque body and a permanent all-wheel drive with non-locking center differential. So look at the table - Cygnus is far from a “SUV”, it has everything that a real all-terrain vehicle should have: two differential locks, a range multiplier and a chassis on a frame with a solid rear axle. Plus, adjustable suspension stiffness and ground clearance control!

The opportunity to check it out, as always, presented itself by chance: I met my classmate. Once upon a time, we boys with slingshots in our pockets rushed along Gagarin Boulevard, and today a childhood friend is the director of a reputable Irkutsk enterprise and “under him” uses the “White Swan”. Since leaders are very, very busy people, let’s leave the owner of the jeep incognito: his deputy went to meet with the A+S correspondent - he became the co-author of our report.

CLOSE CONTACT OF THE FIRST KIND

At the appointed hour, a “white fluffy” Land Cruiser Cygnus and its accompanying Dmitry Leonidovich Nizhegorodov stood under my window. Dmitry himself, as it turns out, is a former pilot! Yes, a real professional - he graduated from an aviation school and worked in small aviation. In the early 90s, when, according to Dmitry, “our small aviation was destroyed,” our hero began to look for sources of livelihood worthy of a real man. These searches were not crowned with success either by the traffic police or the police (this is life!) and, finally, proudly carrying honorary title reserve officer, Dmitry found refuge for a restless spirit in the “special services”. Well, from the “bodies” of the state there is a wide path known to everyone to commercial structures. In short, we, dear readers, were lucky: we came across a very serious, educated and technically literate person, which means he can tell something interesting and useful about the car.

The car, as it turned out, was produced in 1999, my friend has had it in Irkutsk for 3 years, the mileage is 151,000 kilometers. Why is such a machine needed? It turns out that the boss loves to go on vacation to distant tracts among the Baikal ridges. The SUV won't help here. Dmitry says: “Well, yes. Imagine, for example, Yenkhok: from Mukhor to Sarma you can, at the very least, drive a car at a leisurely pace. And then there’s the question!”

For three years, almost nothing broke at Lebed. Immediately after the purchase, the ball joints were replaced - there was already some play. Well, and then, during the entire operation, “the main disease of all hundredths of the Cruisers” recurred several times, according to the former pilot. "Front brake discs they work under pressure thermal mode. I drove through a humid city - lo and behold, steam was pouring out of the front brakes! If, after intense braking, you find yourself in a large puddle or ford in a river, then the discs warp, that is, they actually fail. After that, when braking, even the steering wheel shakes in your hands.” We bought “very cool wheels” - 10 thousand rubles apiece - but it didn’t help, the hour came, and the expensive wheels also warped! It turns out that it is a consumable material...

OUTSIDE AND INSIDE

From the outside, Cygnus fully lives up to its name - it actually resembles a large swan: smooth lines, “bird's eyes”, stampings on the wings - these are, of course, swan wings... And he himself is white and fluffy. I really liked it - both the power in it and the tenderness, like in a mighty northern bird. How about opening the beak? Dima clicked the hood lock - let's see what's in the bird's crop. Nothing interesting at all. All engine compartment occupied by a hefty square lid with the inscription "V8 4700". Yes, this Serpent Gorynych “pretends to be piebald” with two heads and eight “pots”.

We open the driver's door: how is it? For some reason I was immediately drawn into this “gut” - I just wanted to “jump in”, which I did not hesitate to do. Feel? Very nice! The “Swan” immediately envelops you in comfort: the “famous” places are pleasant and comfortable, and the grippy steering wheel fits into your hands, but when you take your left hand off the steering wheel, it naturally rests on the head of the gearbox selector, there are also mode buttons - everything is at your fingertips . There are three notable buttons on the side of the driver's door: “Set”, “1” and “2”. Dmitry comments: “Recording and playback of workplace settings for two drivers. This includes the position of the seat, steering wheel and mirrors.” To the right of the steering wheel is a control unit for the position of the rear-view mirrors, headlight washers and air blowers. On the steering column, in addition to the usual “steering column paddles,” there was a “joystick” on both sides - I pulled it towards myself, a dissatisfied grumbling of the servomotor was heard, and the steering wheel began to “run into” your humble servant. It's clear. What's on the left? To the left of the steering wheel, the most important button labeled “Diff Lock” is the rear cross-axle differential lock. What about the interaxle? Dima shows: here it is, on the center console, bottom right - all four wheels and a cross in the middle.

The console, I would say, is a typical Toyota one. And it pleases! It's better when all the controls don't require getting used to. The touch screen has long been part of our everyday lives - everything is as usual here, the on-screen buttons control climate control, navigation, video, audio... This is where the most grandiose inlay made of natural walnut veneer flaunts. Below is the automatic transmission selector. To the right of the “cobra head” is the shock absorber stiffness knob: COMFORT - SPORT. A little back - a long button with arrows “back and forth” - adjusting the ride height. This “canoe” can be turned off altogether - there is a corresponding “Off” button. Next to it is a gearbox mode button with two positions: 2nd - winter soft start from second gear, PWR - sport mode, allowing you to turn the “engine” in each gear up to maximum speed. To the left of the selector there is a transfer case “knob” - the most commonplace one with three positions “H”, “N” and “L”. What else? Oh, yes - devices. Here they are ordinary, not “optical”, but a very nice design and readability is good - there is a knob for adjusting the brightness of the glow. As for space, there is space everywhere - both in front and behind. Above his head too - the lord may not take off his top hat. This car has a third row of seats - for “corporate purposes”. The third row is three-seater, making the entire crew eight-seater. Rear seats can be removed, folded traditionally, or turned in the UAZ style - along the sides.

OUT OF THE WORLD, IN THE PAMPASAS

The task is not simple: to prove that this beautiful white car is not a “SUV”, but real jeep. What is needed for this? IN best case scenario virgin snow. At worst? There is also this: arable land of the “black fallow” type, well, sprinkled, in accordance with the season, with half a meter of snow. Where can I find this? I know! At the fifteenth kilometer of the Baikal tract, if you turn towards the bays, there is arable land - in the fall I saw “in pure form", and now it's covered deep snow! There - to Wolf Bay. The former pilot liked it, he smiles: it’s clear that he is a tester by nature. We drive through the city to the dam. Fast. While driving, Nizhegorodov is like in an office: he steers with one hand, juggles a cell phone with the other, takes some papers out of his pockets, reads them and dictates something to someone.

Behind Novaya Lisikha, Dmitry “sinks” and comes out at a gentle, treacherous turn at “one hundred and fifty”, my muscles stiffen, and I edifyingly say: “Hush. Quiet. There is often ice here.” The “chief” realized that the “correspondent is in alarm” and released the “trigger.”

On the hillock - turn right. Here we are on the field. We turned around - on the right there was a pine forest, on the left - an endless distance. Ahead is the Irkutsk Sea and a cozy bay with the harsh name Volchiy. I don’t believe it: will Dima really not take pity on the “Kruzak” and jump off the road onto the snow-covered arable land? Has stopped. We check the depth of the snow by wading: knee-deep! “Kruzak” is above the hubs. And under the snow there is lumpy earth - black-brown loam, arable land - the mother of the Russian people. Changes under the snow of 30-40 centimeters make it very difficult to walk with your feet. We roll off the road on the “White Swan”: swaying left and right, as if on the sea. We remember: you need to raise the ground clearance. Stop. We press the suspension lift button: the indicator lights up on the instrument panel. The middle position flashed, then it lit up constantly. Middle. We hold the button. Flashed top position. We hold it for a long time. No, for some reason it didn’t light up. Nizhegorodov says: “For some reason he doesn’t want to. Well, God be with him. And so high." Let's start. No, it's not coming! Sands diagonally. We turn on the center differential lock: I drove right away, and it was good. We stop. I get out of the car, Dima remains behind the wheel - we will film a photo report about the fight against virgin snow. Well, I mean that I need “factual material” that this is “not an SUV.”

I went out onto the road - Dima drove across the field. He described a wide circulation with good speed and drove into deep drift - “Swan” had snow “up to his belly”. He stopped and looked out. They jumped over: “Come on again!” I sanded it - the snow fanned out from under the wheels. Can't move. Quiet. Silence, and suddenly, without any “stress”, I drove and drove, and so briskly - faster than at first. As it turned out, the rear differential had locked! I look, it enters a second, wider circle, and the speed is greater than before. After a large semicircle, a sharp turn of 90 degrees: a professional technique for off-road testers in loose soils. But Cygnus didn’t even think about stopping: he rushed, almost said “like a real swan.”

DRIVER'S AMBITIONS

Now it's my turn to drive. So what can we say? The impressions are threefold: firstly, like an electric locomotive driver - the dimensions are huge and the power is felt formidable, secondly, like a tractor-combiner driver - there is no road, and the “hefty machine” is driving (I remembered how in my youth I cultivated fields on a K tractor -700), and thirdly, like the driver passenger car- easy to control, obedient, gentle and dynamic at the same time. This is what I gave out! Honestly, it’s not my fault, “The Swan” inspired me. And on the way? We drove along the road, especially since it was time to go home - the “full-length” test took place. What to compare it with? The last “all-terrain Toyota” I drove was the Kluger V. If we compare it with the “Umnik”, the Cygnus is no less dynamic; according to the response to the accelerator pedal, it has more weight, but also almost a hundred more power. There is significant roll when turning. Oh yes, while we were driving around the field, we set the shock absorbers to a soft mode! The steering wheel, like all large Toyotas, is very light - without reactive action: I return the steering wheel to the “internal” rotation with my hands. We got onto the highway. Fourth gear, 80 km/h, 2000 rpm on the tachometer - you can’t hear the huge engine. I pressed the pedal - the kick-down worked, the second one, 3500 rpm - the engine became audible - an extremely pleasant V8 rumbling! There are few things that please the ears of the old fat chauffeur so much. After a few seconds I release the pedal - again 2000 rpm, again the “Swan” floats majestically in silence. We return to the city along the bypass road past the cargo port, here you can “sink” - this is the most “drager” place. We decide to “put the arrow down.” A little more than 10 seconds - 100 km/h. I count the “ticks” in my head: 25 seconds - 180 km/h - the speedometer “lies”, and now the “Shiryamka” has appeared, it’s time to release the “braking parachute”.

REVIEWED AND DECIDED

If I lied about anything, it was out of inspiration, and the former pilot of Nizhny Novgorod will forgive me! After all, we, journalists, are creative people, impressionable and amorous. And it is very, very easy to fall in love with the “Northern Swan”: he is beautiful, strong and affectionate at the same time.

So what will be the conclusions, comrade former pilot? And the conclusions are as follows: Toyota Land Cruiser Cygnus is a real full-featured jeep, always ready for harsh off-road conditions. Honestly, it’s strange even for yourself: it’s so seemingly gentle, white, elegant, and even the word “all-terrain vehicle” doesn’t fit it, because we drove through arable land COVERED WITH DEEP SNOW - places that from time immemorial have been considered a training ground for a horse or tractor! And it wasn’t just that they jumped through “on the fly”, but that they rode quite freely - with stops, starts and sharp turns. Here you get “two in one bottle” - a comfortable large “station wagon” with a super interior and a real “drag SUV” with two locks and a “demyan”. These are the pies. By the way, it suddenly dawned on me: the tires were ordinary road tires. Dear Chief Editor, this is the kind of car our editorial team needs to drive along routes into the outback!
