Sales of new luxury cars last month amounted to 123 units, which is 6% more than last year, reports the analytical agency Autostat.

The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class continues to lead sales in the luxury segment. 56 Russians became owners of the German sedan. The second place in the list is taken by the British Bentley brand- 24 cars. The third position is occupied by Maserati with 20 cars sold.

More than half of the cars sold were sold in Moscow - 64 units, another 14 - in the Moscow region, and St. Petersburg accounted for 11 cars. In Primorye, three people became owners of the Luxury segment, two each went to the Kaliningrad, Kemerovo, Novosibirsk, Sverdlovsk, Tver and Yaroslavl regions, and one car each went to 19 constituent entities of the Russian Federation.

Based on sales results for the five months of 2018, statistics remain negative, even taking into account the fact that growth was recorded in May. In January May 2018, 607 cars were sold, which is 2% less than last year for the same period.

Moscow, June 7 - "Vesti.Ekonomika". The Association of European Businesses (AEB), which maintains statistics on sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles in the Russian Federation, reported on Wednesday an 18% increase in sales in May 2018.

According to data from the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee, 147.5 thousand cars were purchased in May (-3% compared to April). At the end of five months of 2018, the Russian car market increased by 20% to 692.9 thousand units.

Jörg Schreiber, Chairman of the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee, comments: " In May Russian automobile market continued its strong recovery with an 18% improvement over the same month last year.

Total sales growth in the first five months of this year is at 20%, a significant improvement on the 5% growth seen in 2017.

This encouraging trend reflects the positive dynamics in retail as a whole and is accompanied by a steady increase in consumer confidence.

Car sales have particularly benefited in recent weeks from a weaker ruble, prompting buyers not to delay purchasing a car. It remains to be seen whether this factor will have the opposite effect on future behavior retail sales and to what extent."

Almost all brands were included in the May top 10 positive dynamics. The exception was Ford, which lost 6% last year.

The best dynamics Hyundai showed: demand increased by a third – to almost 16 thousand cars.

Kia and Volkswagen also added more than a quarter, whose volumes increased by 29% and 27%, respectively.

In turn, Skoda found 20% more buyers than a year earlier.

The market leader, AvtoVAZ, was able to sell 28.7 thousand Lada cars, up 14% from the results of May 2017.

Renault also showed double-digit growth in the top ten (+11%).

In the top 10, Honda rose highest in terms of dynamics, its sales volume increased by almost 8.5 times.

Genesis (+231%) and Mitsubishi (+141%) also recorded triple-digit increases.

Among other brands, Subaru (+63%), Peugeot (+54%), Smart (+48%), Mazda (+43%), Jeep (+43%) and UAZ (+40%) demonstrate brisk growth.

In the camp Chinese brands the leaders in this indicator are FAW (+279%), DFM (+200%), Zotye (+73%) and Haval (+65%).

The weakest results are for SsangYong (-64%), Ravon (-58%), Brilliance (-43%) and Datsun (-29%).

As Vesti.Ekonomika previously reported, in 2017, after four years of decline, sales of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles (LCVs) in Russia increased by 11.9% (by 170 thousand vehicles) to 1.596 million. Sales of crossovers grew almost 2 times faster.

According to statistics from the Association of European Businesses AEB in June 2019, 151 thousand new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were sold in Russia, which is 3.3% less than in June 2018 and 9.9% more than the previous month

The most popular cars among Muscovites for March : KIA Rio - 844 units (-32%), Volkswagen Polo - 753(+10%), Hyundai Creta - 670 (-5%), Hyundai Solaris - 634 (-39%), Nissan Qashqai - 612 (+83%), Toyota Camry - 605 (+15%), Volkswagen Tiguan - 574 (-3%), Skoda Octavia - 566 (-1%), Renault Captur - 564 (+104%), Skoda Rapid- 521 (-5%). Total sales in March amounted to 19 thousand.

Preferences of residents of St. Petersburg in March (see current data later): Volkswagen Polo - 469 units (-2%), Hyundai Solaris - 458 (-5%), KIA Rio - 434 (-7%), Lada Vesta -433 (+59%), Hyundai Creta - 389 (-10% ), Volkswagen Tiguan - 345 (+25%), Mitsubishi Outlander- 296 (-5%), Skoda Rapid -260 (+8%), Renault Duster- 250 (+38%), Lada Largusr - 232 (-6%). Comments from Jörg Schreiber, Chairman of the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee: "After 6 months of 2019, we see a market that has decreased by 2.4% compared to last year, and the second quarter was more difficult than the first. Market expectations for the second half of the year are no better. It is clear that the market growth in 2019 , is no longer a realistic scenario. Even with some positive trend in the second half of the year, the best that could be hoped for is a repeat of last year’s sales result.”

In the used car market, according to the analytical company Avtostat, resales in May (see current data later) amounted to 428 thousand cars, which is -12.0% less than May 2018. In just 5 months the figures are 2.0 million and -0.7%, respectively.
