In climate control, it is enough to set comfortable temperature, and "brains" with the help of electronic valves, servos, clutches and other bells and whistles in a couple of minutes will create a pleasant weather in the car. But, as you know, you have to pay for everything. First of all, constant maintenance and expensive repairs.

To begin with, a little general technical data... The most difficult device in climate control is naturally the air conditioner. In principle, it resembles an ordinary refrigerator. The compressor translates working mixture(refrigerant) into a liquid state. Then, the reverse liquid-gas transformation takes place in the evaporator, as a result of which, according to the laws of physics, cooling occurs. So, if we compare a refrigerator with a compressor, the last time is five more powerful. This is why there is a loss of power and a decrease in engine speed, including the air conditioning. By the way, one of the functions of climate control is to increase idle speed engine when the air conditioner is turned on. Structurally, the air conditioning system is a little scattered around the car. One of the most common schemes is shown in the figure (for example, Peugeot 307 1.6 2004 onwards). Fig. 1


The aforementioned compressor and evaporator are items 1 and 11, respectively.

A little simpler, but no less capricious, is the blowing system. Earlier, who remembers, there were several basic modes of blowing: on the windshield, recirculation, inflow from the outside, under the feet, on the driver, etc. Now you can set the climate mode for a specific passenger. Moreover, the climate control computer itself will first turn on the airflow. windshield if it is fogged up or covered with frost. As a rule, the redirection of air masses is carried out using numerous servo drives that control the valves. The thing itself is not very reliable, they often stick, especially when driving on a dusty road.

Finally, the heating system is simply a stove. Everything is clear here: additional radiator in the cabin, separated from the engine cooling system, plus a fan. Most weak spots- fan motor (brushes and bushings) and block electronic adjustment air discharge speed (rheostat and powerful transistors).

Take as an example Volvo car S80 2005 onwards (here, though not so fancy yet). In the diagram, A500 is a passenger compartment fan control unit, often it is part of the climate control head unit. The control power transistors inside the block often overheat and fail, so it is easier to change them when such a block is made separately, as in this version. Domestic analogs of these transistors are short-lived, it is better to change the entire unit. A510 is a multifunctional unit, often called a comfort unit. As you can see from the diagram, it is connected to the climate control unit by the A62 CAN bus. It is through it that control signals are transmitted. This bus communicates with the A520 passenger door module, A70 steering wheel and the B506 interior temperature sensor. Fig. 3


The cooling fan of the A502 engine is also included in the climate control system. It is activated even when the engine is cold in hot weather. Fig. 4

In automobiles, the compressors are driven by the power take-off belt from the engine. And they take up to 10%. Compressors are of three types: axial piston, rotary vane and piston. When replacing them, it is advisable to change to a similar one. B22 - coolant temperature sensor. B526 - pressure sensor in the air conditioning system. It is he who blocks the inclusion of the air conditioner with an insufficient or excess amount of freon in the system.

I am an auto electrician myself. And I often come across a situation when a car arrives from a service station, where it was charged with refrigerant. The car owner says they weighed everything, checked the reference books, everything is okay. And the air conditioner doesn't work. The master sent it to the auto electricians. What are we? They drove out diagnostics, everything is okay with us. We have nothing to check the pressure in the system. And kicks the car owner at the service station begins. Therefore, advice: refuel freon only at reputable stations where you have your own auto electrician or at least diagnostic equipment... Now in order.
  1. Check the amount of refrigerant at the beginning of each season. It performs not only cooling, but also lubrication (compressor) and anti-corrosion functions. Lack of freon is destructive, but its excessive amount also leads to increased load on the compressor, according to its earlier failure, but it costs a lot. If you need to replace a compressor, I recommend buying a remanufactured used compressor, and not its Chinese "analogue".
  2. Make sure that the tubes and the radiator of the air conditioner do not rub even on the soft parts of the car, do not undergo additional corrosion, promptly flush the radiators outside, but not with a high pressure pump.
  3. If the system is depressurized, you should immediately contact the service station and eliminate the malfunction, otherwise water, salt, dirt, microorganisms will enter the system, and corrosion will begin. The receiver-dryer can generally be thrown away, the filter and silica gel inside it will become unusable. The methods of finding the place of damage (there are many of them - vacuum, ultraviolet halogen, etc.) are quite complicated, it is better not to try it yourself.
  4. Monitor the condition of the pulley belt and compressor bearing. The latter can become unusable after 5 years of operation.
  5. TURN ON the air conditioning periodically, even during the cold season, to allow the refrigerant to circulate the lubricant throughout the system. Often, in frosty weather, the icing sensor does not allow this to be done, then drive it into warm garage, sink, wait for the thaw.
  6. Once a year, and in countryside and more often, change cabin filter... Dust build up in the condenser, passenger compartment fan and servos can damage them.
  7. If in the passenger compartment when the blower is turned on, extraneous noise, it feels even worse bad smell, start repairing it immediately. Usually, the noise is caused by worn out bushings of the electric motor, the smell is caused by worn out brushes. All this is easy to change. Sometimes the reason for the failure of the interior ventilation system is a malfunction of the rheostat (a system of powerful low-resistance resistors). They should be replaced.

For example, the temperature of the climate control is poorly regulated, or the speed of the stove fan. Do not rush to go to disassembly or to order spare parts for a new climate unit. On disassembly, they can slip such bullshit that it costs, and the problem will not disappear. And in the store you will faint from the cost of this block. Let's try to figure out what's what.

We carefully consider how the climate control knobs look outwardly. If they are made in the form of sliders (move left and right) and when you press the knob, the climate starts to work normally, then you are in luck, there is a chance to fix everything with your own hands.

To do this, we need two screwdrivers, flat and cross, rosin, solder, soldering iron, magnifying glass. If there is no magnifying glass, it does not matter, you can break grandma's glasses and pull the lenses out of the frame. Grandma will survive without glasses, and you will freeze without a climate in winter! Which of you is worse? If your grandmother is not, you can try to take it away from your grandfather, although he can crack a good stick with a stick. If there is not a single lens in the house, then you will have to buy one or you will strain your own eyesight.

A concrete example is the climate control of the good old Toyota Ipsum. The heater speed regulator did not work for it, or rather it worked, but it constantly had to be held with a finger. What caused some difficulties in driving. First, you need to remove the climate control from its socket, in which it sits firmly. We open the lid on top and unscrew the two self-tapping screws, and tear out the entire lining around the radio, the climate and the box itself. It's not worth mutilating the plastic, we still put it back.

We unscrew three screws and take out the climate itself from its den. Detach the connectors, remember what is not necessary from where, there is protection from the fool, and you will not mix up the connectors in places. back block and turn off three more golden screws, remove the lid and a wonderful picture opens up! A bunch of tracks that lead to no one knows where, some kind of protruding legs, and many, many places that connect these legs to the tracks with solder. Already eyes run up, but we are specifically interested in only three or six, for fidelity.

We decide on the amount of time that we can spend on troubleshooting. If there is a lot of it, we take a soldering iron in our hands and stupidly solder all soldering points with the exception of this one. There are no problems. If time is short, then we take a magnifying glass (magnifying glass) in our hands and carefully examine the part of the board to which the regulators are soldered. Where they stand can be easily determined by turning the board over and looking at the front side. Here is such a defect, an annular crack. Taking a soldering iron in our hands, dipping it in rosin, we solder this place as best as possible and move on to the next. Having soldered all visible defects, it is advisable to also solder the second regulator, just in case, it will not be worse for it, and you will not have to disassemble the climate unit again.

Having finished working with a soldering iron, if you do not know how to solder, then it is better to train on cats, or rather on unnecessary boards, and then fix the car electronics, take some alcohol and ... ... .....
Don't drink it! It's too early to celebrate your birthday inside of you as an electrician. Soak a cloth in it and wash off the remnants of rosin from the board. Beer for this will not work, and it will stink in the car later. Rinse off unnecessary rosin, if you need to change the burned out bulbs of the climate illumination, collect everything in reverse order.

Having carried this device to the car, we introduce it into place, do not forget to connect the connectors, otherwise it will not work at all. And after checking how it works, we assemble the torpedo turned inside out in the reverse order. And enjoy normally working climate control.
