It is necessary to add 50–70 cm to the perimeter of the frame. The size of the rear window and the size of the side window are taken into account in the same way. The cord must have a slippery surface and a 4 mm diameter.

It should be placed in the outer groove of the seal, starting from the middle of the cord and from the center of the upper part of the frame groove. The cord should be laid symmetrically to the right and left of the center of the upper groove, down along the left and right edges of the element and along the lower edge of the part from the edges to the center. In the middle of the bottom groove, the mounting cord should overlap, one end to the other.

The cord should have free ends, which should not be tucked into the groove, they are needed during installation.

Windshield assembly

It is better to install the prepared installation kit into the car body together with an assistant and do it in the following order.

  • Attach the seal kit to the outside of the frame. Pass the free ends of the patch cord into the passenger compartment.
  • Begin mounting from the middle of the lower frame outline. While your assistant holds the kit with its lower edge pressed against the frame, you begin to carefully pull the mounting cord into the passenger compartment.
  • The cord carries along the inner leg of the letter "H". Due to deformation, it rolls over the side of the frame and as the cord is pulled out, it takes up a regular position from the side of the passenger compartment. In this case, the outer leg remains outside, and the side of the frame, as expected, is placed between them.
  • Install symmetrically, in small movements, alternately pulling one or the other end of the cord. The assistant, with light strokes of the palm, must constantly upset the installed glass in place.

Finally, remove the last section of the patch cord from the middle part of the upper edge of the outer groove of the seal. Upon completion of the installation, it is very useful to knock on the glass on both sides, press your fingers on the seal from the outside and from the inside at different points of the contour.

Start the engine, ride with tight turns on a not very smooth road. Small deformations and vibrations will help the glass to shrink properly in the frame. The mounting stresses will disappear, the fit will automatically adjust and the sealant will harden after a few days.

In order to cut the old glass from the body, you will need a special string, which is in each set for installing the windshield. There are three types of strings - round, square, and twisted (woven from two strings). Working with a twisted string requires experience, since it breaks under strong tension, and a round string does not cut glue well. Therefore, it is best to use a square string. To insert the string into the glue layer, you will have to use an ordinary knife, the blade of which bends well - after the moldings are removed, it is enough to pierce the glue layer from the outside and insert the string. If the moldings remain on the glass, you will have to insert a knife blade between the molding and the body to pierce the glue.

The main point when cutting glass is not to damage the car body. To do this, lead the string parallel to the body, adjusting the direction so that it fits into the groove between the metal and the glue.

Opening preparation and glue application

After cutting off the old windshield, before replacing it with a new one, you need to cut off the layer of old glue from the windshield opening. Each set for installing a glued windshield must contain a degreaser and an activator. The surface dries instantly, so immediately you need to coat it with an activator, which also dries quickly enough. The activator serves for better adhesion of the glue to the glass surface; without it, leakage may appear over time. Then, after it has dried, we begin to apply the glue from the tube. The tip of the tube has a triangular cut, and the glue is flexible enough, so you need to make sure that there are no breaks during the application of the glue. If such tears are obtained, you do not need to add glue - you just need to pull off their edges with a spatula, knife or blade to get an even continuous strip.

Windshield installation

First of all, to install a windshield on a VAZ, you need to install a molding or seal on the glass. If you have clip-on molding, you can do this after laying the glass by simply snapping it into the mating grooves. Ideally, it is best to use suction cups when laying glass on the opening, but you can do without them. The main thing is not to disturb the layer of the applied glue. Having installed the glass on the opening, we align it horizontally and vertically. The side gaps between the glass and the body must be the same. When the glass has fallen into place, it is necessary to pull it to the roof using two strips of adhesive tape, which must be tightened well when blending - the glue dries completely within 8-12 hours and the glass can slide off. It is best to stick two more strips of tape over the top to reinforce the glass. Some people use rubber pads, but they do not always match the required glass height, and a small layer of glue can cause the windshield to crack when the car body vibrates.

In no case should you try to speed up the drying process of the glue! Glue for car glass tends to absorb moisture and acquire elasticity, so the machine must be in normal humidity conditions. After 12 hours, you can safely remove the tape from the windshield, rinse it and get behind the wheel!

How to prepare new glass

Before proceeding with the installation of new glass, you must do the following:

  • Put on the seal. You can use the old seal that was removed from the previous glass. This will make it easier to work, since it is already more elastic, so it can be easily installed in the desired place.
  • However, using a new seal requires a lot of effort. To do this, you will need to put it on all corners of the glass. After that, you will need to slightly press on it so that it sticks into the side, top and bottom sides.
  • Now it's the turn of the castle. This is a small wedge that looks like the letter P. It must be inserted so that it is in the center of the seal, but runs along its entire perimeter.

Note: Before installing the wedge, it must be slightly stretched. This is done very easily, since it is quite flexible.

  • You need to insert it like this: first the long part, then the short one. This should be done around the entire perimeter of the glass. However, part of the wedge may remain, so it will have to be carefully cut, because it will interfere if everything is left as it is.

Glass installation

To easily put the glass in place, you need to use a rope (it must be quite dense and strong so that it does not break). Everything needs to be done in the following sequence:

  • Determine by eye where the middle of the rope is. With this part, insert it into the seal (outside). Since the seal has two slots, you should find the one that will be closer to the outer part of the glass. This is where the rope is inserted.
  • Use a screwdriver to push the rope into the groove until it stops. Insert the rope until the middle of the lower part of the windshield is reached.
  • With opposite side you should also insert the rope until it crosses the end of the previous rope.
  • When they have crossed, the end of one must be put on the end of the other.

Note: There should be a slight overlap. Its length should be about 5-10 cm. In this case, it should be recessed into the seal until it stops.

  • Before starting to install the windshield, pull the loose ends of the rope inside the machine.
  • Now you can lay the glass on the opening. This must be done so that the lower part of the opening penetrates into the outer groove (that is, the groove where the rope was previously inserted).
  • The glass should be lightly pressed down, not inside the car, but down.

Note: This will make it sit better.

  • Pull the rope towards you, not vertically, but horizontally.
  • The seal easily breaks into the passenger compartment.

Note: it should be wiped clean so that it does not get on any parts of the machine. Once dry, it hardens, so it will be much harder to remove.

  • Extend half of the rope to the bottom corners of the glass.
  • After that, sit the glass in a smooth motion.
  • To make it easier to overcome the corners, you need to pay attention to the following: to make it easier to pass the left corners, you need to "twist" the rope clockwise, and the right ones - vice versa.

Note: This is quite difficult to do as the rope is tight. However, the slower this action takes place, the better. It's just that the insulation will sit well on the opening and will hold up perfectly afterwards.

  • Pulling the rope, you need to carefully seat the glass in the opening. In no case should you hit the glass with any foreign objects. You can only lightly hit it with your hands (rather, not even hit, but gently push).
  • When the rope is completely out, the interior should be carefully checked. After all, the seal could come out and the remnants of the glue may remain. And besides, he could lie on the torpedo. To fix this, you should drive it into the opening using a flat screwdriver.
  • At the end, the glass should be seated all the way to the stop. To do this easily, you need to place your hand on the upper edge, lightly hitting it with your second hand. The same should be done with the rest of the glass area.

Note: Slightly noticeable gaps may remain between the seal and the opening. This is not scary, since they could appear due to a slight displacement of the glass. After a few days, the glass will sit better and all gaps will disappear by themselves. And the glass will stand completely motionless.
