The front suspension of the Toyota Tundra is made in the format of an independent design with double levers and stabilizer lateral stability. At the rear, trapezoidal multi-leaf springs are used, complemented by shock absorbers to improve damping efficiency. The brakes on all four wheels are ventilated discs: four-piston at the front, single-piston at the rear.

Four-wheel drive pickup is implemented according to a part-time scheme, which provides for a rigid connection of the front axle (there is no center differential). The 4WDemand control system allows you to use the selector to switch between three modes: 2WD, 4WD hi and 4WD low. The Auto LSD function takes control of the rotation of the rear wheels when slippage occurs, thereby ensuring that traction is transferred to the wheel with the best traction.

Thanks to the frame design and powerful coupling Toyota device The Tundra is capable of towing a trailer weighing up to 4,600 kg. Maximum load capacity The weight of the car, depending on the modification, varies from 650 to 780 kg.

Introduced in 1999, the Tundra quickly won numerous awards for its reliability, quality and relative low price, and has since been in good demand in the USA. Toyota Motor Concern has become a pioneer among Japanese stamps who ventured out to American market full-size pickups. The secret of success is that Tundra does not go against the market, but combines the best qualities of American and Japanese cars. Production was established at the TMMI plant in Princeton (Indiana).

In terms of size, the Tundra is between Ford pickups F-series and Dodge Ram 1500 series. The car is unified in design and styling with the full-size Toyota Sequoia SUV.

The Toyota Tundra of the first years of production was equipped with either a 3.4-liter V6 (190 hp) or a powerful 4.7-liter V8 (245 hp).

In 2003, the entire Tundra range was restyled: the radiator grille was replaced with three horizontal slats (in body color or with chrome), bumpers and lighting were changed, and the interior was refreshed. In addition to the basic versions with a short (Regular Cab) and one-and-a-half 4-seater (Access Cab) cabs, since the fall of 2002 they have been offering a Stepside Access Cab version with steps in the sides and a loading platform for easier loading. In 2006, a new car debuted at the Chicago Auto Show. Toyota generation Tundra. The FTX concept, presented at the Los Angeles Auto Show, served as the basis for serial version pickup truck. The car became much larger and took on a rougher shape.

The new generation differs from its predecessor by a huge chrome grille, a massive front bumper and enlarged headlights. The design, although controversial, is impressive. According to the designers of the California studio Toyota Calty, which created the car’s exterior, their goal was to create a real American “truck.” And the Tundra, in fact, is just that - after all, this pickup truck is completely designed in the USA, and is produced there.

The new generation Tundra has grown significantly in size compared to its predecessor, the length has increased by almost 25 centimeters, reaching a value of 5.8 meters. The height of the new pickup is 1.95 meters, the first generation was 12 cm lower, and the width reaches a record two meters. The Tundra is now one of the largest in the class, and one of the most spacious. There are three cabin options - standard, one and a half and double.

The increased size made it possible to make the cargo platform larger, and in return required more power. Designed specifically for Tundra new engine V8 with a volume of 5.7 liters and a power of 381 hp, which, according to American tradition, received its own name - i-Force. It will be paired with a new six-speed automatic transmission. Budget options offer the time-tested V6 4.0 l/236 hp. and V8 4.7 l/271 hp.

In addition to the new engine, the brake system was equipped with heavy-duty front brake discs and four-piston calipers. In addition, all versions of the new Toyota Tundra are now equipped with rear disc brakes. Improved cooling system and many electronic systems will allow you to easily tow huge loads even in the most severe weather conditions.

The Tundra shatters the stereotype that a pickup truck is by definition a purely utilitarian vehicle. Toyota has equipped its model with all the modern means of comfort - leather trim, a powerful JBL audio system, a rearview video camera and a ten-way adjustable driver's seat are offered as options.

The new Tundra is available in 30 different models. The model is assembled on American Toyota factories in Indiana and Texas. Its main competitor is the most popular pickup truck in America - the Ford F-150.

At the 2013 Chicago Auto Show year Toyota introduced an updated version of the Tundra model. The car was developed by the American division of the auto giant. Projection work was carried out in Michigan, design was carried out in California, assembly was carried out in the USA (San Antonio, Texas). dimensions and technical specifications remain the same. There were no structural changes to the frame or chassis design, no additions to existing wheelbase or cabin configurations, and no changes to the powertrain lineup. The car has undergone major changes in terms of the design of external and internal equipment, as well as in terms of the introduction of a large number of option packages.

The car is available with three cab options: a two-door standard cab (Regular), a four-door double cab (Double) and a four-door with an increased number of seats (CrewMax). Each version is available with either two- or four-wheel drive. Regular and crew cab models come with standard (78.7 inches) or long (97.6 inches) trunks, while the Extended Crew Cab comes with a 66.7-inch trunk. All racks are 22.2 inches deep. The back door is locked, easily lowered and quickly removed.

The most obvious changes made by lead designer Kevin Hunter are the introduction of a larger and more angular front grille and the replacement of some elements in the front end of the body. The new grille consists of three separate parts, the design of which is aimed at giving the front of the truck a more aggressive look, which is supported by larger wheel arch extensions and modified headlights. The designers added more character lines to the design of each of the wheel arch extensions so that the pickup truck's profile becomes even more defined. In the rear, there's a new tailgate with an integrated spoiler, as well as the Tundra logo stamped into the metal of the tailgate. At the same time, the rear parking lights, and the rear bumper also received a new unique design.

The most significant changes affected the interior of the 2014 Toyota Tundra, with the car's ergonomics significantly improved. The driver now has easier access to audio and climate control controls. Gone are those of the past measuring instruments with hollow tubes that have been an integral part of this truck since its introduction. Their place was taken by a completely updated, more modern dashboard with centrally located multi-data display. For passenger comfort, the front and rear rear seats and modified with an air conditioning system. In addition, the front passenger seats can now be moved further back, and the rear seats in the CrewMax fold flat for additional cargo space. There are 4 interior colors available - beige, sand, brown and black.

The car is offered in five trim levels: SR (base), SR5, Limited, as well as two new trim levels with premium option packages, one of which is called Platinum, and the other is 1794, designed in the style of the “Wild West”. By the way, 1794 is the year of the founding of Rancho San Antonio, which now houses the plant where all Toyota pickups, including the Tundra.

The SR and SR-5 trim levels have 18-inch wheels with steel wheels, while Limited, Platinum and "1794" models have new 20-in. alloy wheels, individual for each of the configurations.

The base SR trim comes with a 6.1-inch Entune touchscreen with Bluetooth. The SR-5 added chrome bumpers, chrome grille radiator and a 7-inch Entune touchscreen audio system and satellite radio. The Limited variant has a unique grille mesh, chrome mirrors and handles, leather seats, woodgrain inserts in the doors and on the control panel, 8-way adjustable and heated front seats, Entune premium audio system with navigation. The 1794 trim maintains the Western theme, featuring embossed leather and suede interior trim. This package includes a twelve-speaker JBL audio system, heated and ventilated front seats, a navigation system, blind spot monitoring and a rearview camera.

Several purely mechanical improvements deserve special mention: retuning of all shock absorber valves, allowing for better handling and ride quality off-road, as well as modifications and strengthening of the steering system, which allows for stable steering control when driving at both high and low speeds .

The 2014 Toyota Tundra is equipped with time-tested engines. Standard engine for Regular Cab and Double Cab models 4.0-liter DOHC V6, 270 horsepower with 278 pound-feet of torque with automatic five-speed gearbox front with variator. Next up is the 4.6-liter DOHC i-Force V8, producing 310 horsepower and 327 pound-feet of torque. The most powerful in the lineup is the 5.7-liter DOHC i-Force V8, producing 381 horsepower and 401 Nm of torque. Both of the latter engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

The pickup truck is equipped with standard safety features in the form of 8 airbags, ABS with an electronic distribution system braking forces and a stabilization system.

The dimensions of the Toyota Tundra are quite impressive. You will not be able to get rid of this equipment due to breakdowns; there can only be one reason - buying a restyled version of the pickup truck.

To confirm our words, let's give an example. Most recently, Victor Sheppard received a free new Toyota Tundra in the USA from a Japanese concern in exchange for an old one. His job requires frequent travel - in 9 years he has traveled 1,600,000 km. Interestingly, the car NEVER broke down. The equipment was only subjected to routine maintenance. The concern's engineers took the car for research in order to make additional design changes. You can buy a Toyota Tundra to order from the USA and try to surpass the American’s record - in our open spaces this is not difficult to do.

The large beautiful pickup truck that Toyota created and is still creating to this day in order to conquer the market in America, nevertheless sells it in many other countries, but in our country official sales not planned - this is a Toyota Tundra 2017-2018.

In 2013, Toyota presented to the public at the Chicago Auto Show a restyled version of its pickup truck, which received many changes. Thus, the manufacturer continues to conquer the American market and creates competition for many cars there.

As we have already said, the manufacturer has made a lot of changes, both technically and from a design point of view, and this is where we will begin our analysis of this car.

Appearance

The car has aggressive shapes, which is what marketers most likely wanted to attract young buyers. This car will not remain unnoticed on the road until everyone gets used to it, and this will take a lot of time.

The muzzle received a high, slightly embossed hood with a wide air intake that directs air into the engine compartment. Large optics, unfortunately with halogen filling, are used here. Between the headlights there is a huge radiator grille, which adds aggression to the appearance. The truly massive bumper has large plastic protection and round fog lights.

The side of the model is distinguished by very swollen wheel arches and stampings that come from the front optics. Similar stamping is also present above rear arch. You can also notice a small stamping in the lower part of the body. The car mirrors are simply huge and you can see everything in them.

From the rear, the car looks like a classic pickup truck - large optics, a regular trunk lid with a comfortable handle and a small stamping. Rear bumper also made in the style of conventional pickups, a huge chrome bumper.

Of course, due to the fact that the designers changed the appearance of the car, the dimensions of the body also changed:

  • length – 5814 mm;
  • width – 2029 mm;
  • height – 1930 mm;
  • wheelbase – 3701 mm.

The manufacturer also offers a 2-door and 4-door Long version, which of course differ in size, but their appearance is approximately the same.

Salon

The pickup truck has an excellent 5-seater interior with high-quality upholstery materials and good assembly. The front row of seats of the Toyota Tundra 2017-2018 received excellent seats with leather upholstery, electrical adjustments and many useful features. It’s simply gorgeous to sit on, there’s a lot of space, and comfort is also good. There is a leather sofa installed in the back, which is designed for three people; they will fit there without any problems, and they will not complain about discomfort.

The driver will get a large 4-spoke steering wheel, which is covered in leather and has a lot of wood. There are also buttons on the steering wheel for more comfortable multimedia control. The instrument panel is made in a classic style, with large analog gauges and a large on-board computer.

Looking at the center console, one immediately notices the large touchscreen navigation and multimedia system. On the sides there are controls for adjusting the volume and switching tracks. Below is a large block with a small screen, which is responsible for climate control. The entire dashboard panel is covered in leather and has wooden inserts.

There is a large gear selector on the tunnel, and cup holders are located to the right. There is also a huge armrest on the tunnel. As you understand, the trunk here is simply huge, and there is no point in talking about its volume.

Specifications

Type Volume Power Torque Overclocking Maximum speed Number of cylinders

Petrol 4.6 l 310 hp 460 H*m - - V8

The model has 3 fairly powerful units in its line. There is no data on the dynamics yet, so we will tell you about the technical data of the engines.
