Do not move the damper to the side for more than necessary for operation, the distance to avoid bending the rod.

4. Install the spring compressor...

5. ... and compress the spring.

6. Unload the car's suspension by removing the supports from under the lower arm (if you are working on a lift), or raise the car (if you are working with a jack) and remove the spring by pressing the lower suspension arm down.

_Warning

Remove and install the spring with extreme caution to avoid

the risk of injury as a result of the shooting of the spring from the suspension.

7. Remove the top...

8. ... and lower (shown on the removed lower arm) spring spacers.

_Warning

Replace damaged spring gaskets with new ones.

9. Establish a spring with linings on the car in an order, the return to removal. Replace the second spring in the same way.

Upper arm replacement rear suspension _

You will need: socket head “15”, spacer (see item 2).

1. Remove the rear suspension spring (see "Replacing the rear suspension spring", p. 182).

2. Install a spacer 113 mm high and 20 mm wide between the rear lower arm of the rear suspension and the upper spring plate, clamp it while loading the suspension (for example, by jacking up the arm).

_Note

Station wagon vehicles require a spacer 184 mm high, 20 mm wide.

3. Turn out bolts of fastening top.naga to an arm of the trailing arm...

4. ... and to the rear suspension cross member bracket ...

5. ... and remove the upper rear suspension arm.

6. Carefully inspect the lever, replace the deformed lever. Signs of wear of silent blocks are ruptures, one-sided bulging and delamination of rubber from metal sleeve. To replace the silent blocks, you will need pullers of the right size.

Rear suspension mounted on Ford Focus the second generation, has a multi-link design, due to this, a smooth ride of the car is achieved, confident behavior of the car on the road.

But the multi-link system has not only advantages, but also its drawbacks - with mechanical damage, you have to change more parts, and the repair of the chassis itself turns out to be expensive. In this article, we will look at what the Ford Focus 2 rear suspension is: diagram, repair, what are the characteristic “diseases” of the chassis, how to replace the rear shock absorber and stabilizer bar.

Rear suspension Ford Focus-2 - independent type, with a cross member in the middle, with four levers each rear wheel(total levers - 8). The chassis consists of the following elements:

  • crossbars;
  • levers - rear lower, upper, front lower, longitudinal;
  • springs;
  • shock absorbers;
  • compression buffers.

All elements, except for the transverse beam, are paired, also on rear axle stabilizer is installed roll stability with racks and bushings.

The Ford Focus-2 was produced in two body modifications - in the pre-styling version (2005-2008) and in the restyled version (2008-2011). After the modernization, some changes took place in the car, but the restyling did not touch the rear suspension - it remained the same.

On the domestic market in the vast majority there are Ford Focus-2 only Russian assembly, therefore, it is difficult to talk about the quality of spare parts installed on cars assembled in Spain and Germany. But the cars assembled in Vsevolozhsk near St. Petersburg are quite reliable, and the rear suspension normal operation serves for a long time.

If the car is not driven on high speed on bad roads, more or less major repairs chassis will require about 100 thousand km on the run, not earlier. As a rule, trailing arms are the first to fail, silent blocks wear out in them. You can not change the lever completely, you can get by with repressing the silent blocks, but in order to make such a repair, it is necessary to disassemble almost the entire suspension.

The rear shock absorbers on the "Second Focus" are distinguished by an enviable "survivability", on average, the parts are nursed from 90 to 130 thousand km. The price of original spare parts is rather big, each shock absorber costs about 3.5 thousand rubles. But fortunately, Focus-2 has parts of non-original production, moreover, of very decent quality. For example, Monroe or Kayaba shock absorbers can be purchased at a price of 2-2.5 thousand rubles. for 1 piece, and TRW parts are even cheaper. Also, these parts are produced by many other companies:

  • Bilstein;
  • SACHS;
  • Koni etc.

Stabilizer struts are usually the first to fail on many car models, but on the Ford Focus 2 these parts are surprisingly tenacious, sometimes nursing more than 100 thousand km.

Car owners of the "Second Focuses" need to know that many parts for the car fit from the Mazda 3, in particular, many rear suspension parts are almost the same. True, there is one difference here - native Ford parts are more reliable than Mazda parts, although they are more expensive.

If in the stock area rear shock absorber oil stains appeared, and the car began to drive over bumps with the rear part of the body rocking, the shock absorber failed, and it needs to be changed. We work as follows:

Replacing the rear stabilizer bar

If a knock appears in the area of the rear suspension, it is likely that the stabilizer links have worn out. Parts change quite simply, if there are no complications during removal, you can replace the stabilizer bar in half an hour or even faster.

It is convenient to replace it in a pit or a lift; you do not need to remove the wheel to perform the operation. We perform the work in the following order:

Everything was simple, but the old rack does not always turn away normally. Thread on ball pin clogged with dirt, and when you try to unscrew the nut, the hex wrench turns in the body of the finger. Before you start spinning the connection, you must:

  • clean the threads on the stabilizer link from dirt;
  • spray it with WD40;
  • wait 15-20 minutes for the remaining dirt to “eat off”.

Only after that should you start unscrewing the nuts. If, nevertheless, the ball pin scrolls in the body, and the nut rotates with it, you will have to use a small grinder - cut off the worn stabilizer bar.

AT this case considered the replacement of the L-shaped stabilizer struts, but the Ford Focus-2 can also be installed stabilizer struts of the so-called "direct" type.

These details are even easier to change, there are practically no complications here.

Replacing the rear suspension Ford Focus 2: video

The suspension of the car largely determines its behavior on the road. The entire system, including ball joints, arms, stabilizer bushings, springs, and so on, must function perfectly in order for the operation of the machine to be safe.

On the Ford Focus 2, as in principle on any other car, due to many factors, the silent blocks of the rear suspension very often wear out ahead of time. Therefore, at a minimum, they must be systematically inspected and determined for wear. Well, if it's time to replace them, then the material presented below will come in handy for you.

Silent blocks: purpose and wear diagnostics

A silent block is a vibration isolator used in the suspension units of absolutely all cars. It consists of two components: interconnected metal plates and a rubber gasket between them. Vulcanized processing allows materials to be bonded different structure densely enough, without causing friction between metal and rubber, as a result of which silent blocks have vibration-isolating properties.

Such vibration isolators provide damping of radial, torsional and axial vibrations during Ford Focus 2 movement. In this regard, they are used precisely in the joints of suspension parts. Rubber-metal products are equally used both in front and behind the car. But the silent blocks of the rear suspension are more susceptible to wear and subsequent replacement, as they experience increased loads when moving.

On average, these parts are designed for a period of operation equal to 100,000 km, but given the condition of roads in Russia and the CIS, given term reduced by 1.5-2 times. You should not exclude the factory marriage of a separate silent block, which is not such a rarity.

Attention! Paying attention to such features of the operation of the Ford Focus II, we can state that it is desirable to check these parts every 20-25 thousand kilometers, and to replace them - 50-75 thousand km.

In addition to the above factors, it is worth considering the features in the driving behavior of the car, which can signal failed silent blocks. More precisely, it is:

  • lethargy in driving;
  • spontaneous withdrawal of the car to the side when driving on high speeds;
  • the appearance of a "deaf" knock from under the bottom of the car.

All this should not be ignored, because such phenomena can be provocateurs emergency. It is possible to finally make sure that the silent blocks have come to an end only with a detailed examination of them. This is carried out at the service station in a car pit or on a lift. After carefully examining each part, it is necessary to determine whether there are defects in them (seizures, cracks). If there is, the replacement of Ford Focus 2 silent blocks is inevitable.

Front suspension arm repair

Often, silent blocks wear out in approximately the same proportions at the rear and front of the suspension. Of course, it is stronger on the back, but not so much. Therefore, do not neglect the complex replacement of both the front suspension arms and the rear ones. Even if they are in front perfect condition- do not be lazy and replace them together with the rear ones.

Silent block replacement front arm Ford Focus 2 is a simple process and requires only basic car repair skills. The algorithm of actions is presented below.

  1. First of all, you need to jack up your Ford Focus 2 and remove the wheel. Then remove the crankcase protection of the motor and dismantle ball joint using a spanner wrench of 21. When removing, you can tap the bolts if they are “sticky”, but carefully.
  2. After such procedures, you can proceed directly to the dismantling of the front suspension arm itself by unscrewing its fastening nuts with an 18 wrench.
  3. Now it is necessary to dismantle the silent block itself from a special groove or with a special puller, or cut it out. Before dismantling it, remember, or rather take a picture, the angle of its landing and its depth.
  4. Before putting new part into the groove, clean the seat of dirt and lubricate it with a thin layer, and then the silent block itself.
  5. After replacing, you need to assemble everything in the reverse order. After the replacement, it will be useful to carry out a "alignment".

Repair of rear silent blocks

If you first replace the silent blocks with a Ford Focus 2 in front, then its rear part will raise a few questions, despite a slightly complicated process. The procedure has its own principle: dismantled one lever - replaced the silent block - assembled in the reverse order - and so on several times.

Replacing the rear silent blocks Ford Focus 2 is carried out as follows:

  1. The wheel is dismantled by jacking the car. in the gap between one of rear control arms and a stand is placed with a spring plate (113 mm - height, 20 mm - width).
  2. After that, you can dismantle the bolts securing the rear arm and disconnect the part itself.
  3. Then the silent block is taken out again from a special groove. seat cleaned and lubricated.
  4. Replaced with a new part and reassembled in reverse order.

For the most part, the operation of replacing suspension bushings with a Ford Focus 2 is simply doable, requiring only basic car repair skills. In any case, before starting your own repair, it is important to weigh your strength and determine whether this operation is within your power.

Video on how to replace suspension bushings for Ford Focus 2:

Unlike cheaper models, the second-generation Ford Focus rear suspension has a modern, sophisticated design. This multi-link system, which provides independent suspension rear wheels. Thanks to this suspension scheme, the car received a soft comfortable ride, good transverse and longitudinal stability. But, as you know, the more parts in the system, the more difficult it is to repair. How the Ford Focus rear suspension is arranged and what algorithm is used to replace the rear silent blocks of the rear levers, how to choose the right ones instead of the original, we will figure it out today.

When to change the silent blocks of the rear levers on the Ford Focus 2

Wear is immediately visible.

The fact that a silent block is called a rubber-metal bushing to dampen vibrations and reduce the load on the suspension elements does not need to be explained to anyone.

The fact that they have their own tensile strength is also understandable. Replacing the silent blocks of the rear suspension may be necessary after 80–100 thousand mileage, and the following are considered signs of a malfunction:

  • knocking and creaking in the area of the rear axle;
  • instability of the car during a sharp change of lane and in corners;
  • pulling the car to the side when braking;
  • uneven wear of the rubber of the rear wheels;
  • broken camber-toe angles of the rear wheels.

If you do not notice the strong wear of silent blocks in time, then in addition to repairs, you can spend a lot of money on replacing suspension parts, and on new tires. Yes, and safety on the road will also be at risk.

What silent blocks will we put?

Rear suspension repair sometimes involves not replacing silent blocks, but complete replacement leverage. Firstly, it is easier, and secondly, there will be a guarantee that the suspension geometry will be preserved.

New silent blocks installed.

But there is a danger of running into counterfeit, more and more counterfeits of steel levers of disgusting quality appear on the market. However, if the levers in normal condition, and only silent blocks failed, we will change them. Replacement work costs an average of about 4–4.5 thousand rubles, depending on the service, so we will save money and replace silent blocks with our own hands.

There are many types of silent blocks on the market, but Lemforder elements remain one of the most popular for a long time. Here are their part numbers:

  • Lemforder 31938 01, this is a silent block of the rear transverse levers, four of them are needed to replace them, the inner diameter of the bushing is 12.2 mm, the outer diameter of the cage is 32.2 mm;
  • Lemforder 31940 01- curved rear arm silent block with inner bushing 12.2 mm, cage diameter 36.2;
  • Febi 34249, sold as a set on both sides with mounting bolts, mounted in front of the rear trailing arm;
  • ten bolts Febi 29451 with a thread M12x1.75, a head with a diameter of 24 mm on a turnkey basis for 15;
  • two Mazda camber adjustment bolts BP4K-28-66ZB ;
  • two Mazda shims BP4K-28-473A ;
  • Hanse HR 402 183- lower rear transverse arm, outer silent block, inner bushing with a diameter of 12.3 mm, outer race 36.3 mm;
  • lower wishbone inner bushing, Hanse HR 402 182, the diameters are the same;
  • two stabilizer bar bushings Lemforder 34054 01 .

All parts look like this

Preparing tools and accessories for replacement

Before changing the silent blocks of the rear levers on the Focus, you need to make sure that the entire essential tool and the tools were at hand. First of all, either pullers with grippers for pressing out silent blocks, or a press will be needed. It is far from always possible to knock out the bushings with a sledgehammer, even with spacers of the desired diameter. But spacers are still needed. Here are their drawings and dimensions. This is a spacer for pressing out the silent blocks of the spring-loaded rear arm:

Crimping.

And with this spacer, the bushings of the bent transverse lever are pressed out:

And these are the dimensions of the spacer for removing silent blocks of the direct transverse lever:

Spacer sizes.

In addition, we will need standard tool, a set of sockets, an aerosol penetrating lubricant and a coupler for dismantling the spring, as well as a regular jack and an adjustable stand (hydraulic jack).

Replacing the silent blocks of the rear levers Ford Focus 2

Installing the car viewing hole or overpass, install wheel chocks under the front wheels and tear off the rear wheel nuts. Jacking up back car and remove the wheel.

  1. Thoroughly clean all suspension elements from dirt, threaded connections treat with penetrating lubricant, wait a few minutes for the lubricant to soak.

    Lubricate everything we see.

  2. Remove the spring by compressing it with ties.

    The spring has been removed!

  3. Loosen the stabilizer bar nut.

    Stabilizer removed.

  4. We rest the hydraulic jack or stand against the lower rear arm in the place where it is articulated with the spring-loaded arm, thereby loading the suspension elements.
  5. We mark the position of the washer, which corrects the camber angles. For this you can use a center punch, however, setting the correct alignment will still be necessary, we will set the approximate angles.
  6. We unscrew the bolt of the articulation hinge of the longitudinal and lower rear arm with a 15 spanner wrench, then remove the bolt from the hole.

    Dismantling scheme.

  7. To get to the adjusting bolt on the subframe, you need to move the adsorber. We press the latch and take the adsorber as far as possible to the side, after which you can remove the bolt.
  8. We unscrew the marked camber-toe adjustment nut with an 18 spanner, while holding the bolt head with a 19 spanner.
  9. We take out adjusting bolt, the lower rear arm should remain in our hands.

    Getting ready for repress.

  10. Using spacers and a press or a special puller with grippers, we press out the silent blocks, clean the mounting surfaces from dirt, apply a small layer grease and press in new silent blocks.

The rest of the silent blocks are changed according to the same method to completely removed levers. Assembly is carried out in the reverse order. Soft and silent suspension for all and vivid impressions of travel!

Video on how to remove the soured bolts of the silent blocks of the rear arm on the Ford Focus 2

The second generation Ford Focus car is modern and very reliable, with regard to both the suspension and the engine, transmission, etc. The suspension, by the way, is able to cope even with our roads and serve quite well. long term. It should be noted that one of its shortcomings is the complexity of the repair, which is quite difficult to carry out on your own. However, if you have the necessary skills, knowledge and tools, then the process is quite feasible. Replacing the front and rear suspension arms requires several hours of time, and we will tell you how to do it correctly on the second generation Ford Focus.

It has a simple design, which allows you to achieve highest reliability. But, despite this, a constant load, driving on bad roads and the influence of other factors leads to the failure of its various elements.

Damage to the rear suspension arms leads to the fact that strange and unusual knocks appear in the lower part of the car, the placement angles are violated rear wheels and tires wear out much faster. Replacing Ford Focus 2 levers will require you to have the following tools:

  1. Ties.
  2. A set of heads, screwdrivers and keys.
  3. Jack.
  4. Body supports.
  5. Pliers.
  6. Wheel stands.

Replacing the lower rear suspension arm is mandatory if it is deformed or the silent block has received any mechanical damage, for example, breaks, violation of the integrity of rubber, etc. Before starting work, it is necessary to drive the Ford Focus 2 onto a flyover or into a viewing hole. It is also desirable to have an assistant, since self-replacement leverage will be harder and longer. It should be noted that if you are unsure of your abilities, then it is better to entrust the replacement to professionals, because the safety of the FordFocus 2 depends on the condition and correct installation and tuning of the suspension.

Features of replacing the upper arm

First you need to clean the various connections in the suspension device and process them special liquid. For this, WD40 or another similar substance may be suitable. To replace the upper control arm on the second generation Ford Focus, follow these steps:

  • Remove the rear suspension spring.
  • We put a special stand measuring 112 by 20 between the lever and the spring plate. This will compress it and give the suspension a certain load. Remember that it requires large coasters.
  • We unscrew the fixing bolts to the trailing arm bracket and to the cross member.
  • Dismantle the rear suspension arm.
  • We check and inspect the lever, which will be replaced. If the silent block is torn or there is any damage, then this can indicate its bad condition. Its replacement may require a special size.

That's all, now you can install a new lever on the second generation Ford Focus. However, it is necessary to pay attention to the choice of a specific option and use only the part that has the necessary markings. It is recommended to purchase only original spare parts, which will make it possible to achieve maximum comfort and duration of use. Also extremely important is the fact that the replacement of the upper arm of the rear suspension requires further adjustment of the angle of the discs. To do this, you will need to contact the service station for the help of specialists who will do everything necessary for your Ford Focus.
