Is it possible to put different tires on different axles. Can I put different tires on the front and rear axles? Is it possible to install non-standard tire sizes for this car model

Regulating the use of tires (tires) on a car.

Most often on passenger cars mobiles install kits consisting of four identical tires. Such kits do not cause problems and can be used without restrictions. Drivers have questions when they need to replace one or more tires.

For example, if one of the tires is damaged after the wheel falls into the pit, then it needs to be replaced. Buy full set the driver does not want rubber, especially if the remaining tires are almost new. Ideally, the driver wants to buy a single tire similar to the existing ones. However, this may cause serious problems since many sellers refuse to sell one tire from a set of tires.

This article will cover features of using different tires by car:

The use of different rubber in accordance with traffic rules

The restriction on the use of different rubber is set in paragraph 5.5:

5.5. Tires are installed on one axle of the vehicle different sizes, designs (radial, diagonal, chamber, tubeless), models with different tread patterns, frost-resistant and frost-resistant, new and remanufactured, new and with a deep tread pattern. The vehicle has studded and non-studded tires.

Let's consider this item in more detail.

Different tires on the front and rear axle of the vehicle

Clause 5.5 does not impose a complete ban on the use of different tires on the front and rear axles of the vehicle. The only exception is concurrent use studded and studless tires on the wheels of the vehicle. Similar setup tires are prohibited.

Thus, all tires of the vehicle must be either studded or non-studded. You cannot combine these types of rubber.

In addition, consider paragraph 5.5 to the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union "On the safety of wheeled vehicles":

Winter tires are installed on all wheels of the vehicle.

Let's go back to the example from the beginning of this article. If hitting the hole destroyed one of the tires, and it is not possible to find an identical replacement, then you can purchase a pair of identical tires and put them on one of the axles of the car. At the same time, tires on different axles can differ significantly.

However, the legislation prohibits installing winter studless tires (Velcro) on the front axle of the car, and on rear axle regular summer tires. All tires on the vehicle must be either winter or summer.

Naturally, in practice, it is not worthwhile to carry out experiments on combining winter and summer tires since grip of tires with road surface will vary greatly, and this can lead to unpredictable consequences (vehicle U-turn).

In any case, you need to select tires in such a way that they have a minimum of differences.

For example, if one of the winter tires, but there is no similar one on sale, then you should buy a pair of winter tires and install them on one of the axles. In this case, the front and rear will be installed different Winter tires but that would not be a violation.

Different tires on the same axle of the car

Clause 5.5 requires completely identical tires were installed on one axle of the car... Thus, in practice, it is prohibited to use:

  • Tires different sizes on one axis. For example, the manufacturer allows 165 / 80R14 and 185 / 65R15 to be used on a car. It is impossible to combine such tires on the same axle.
  • Tires different designs... Radial and bias tires, or tube and tubeless tires, must not be installed on the same axle.
  • Tires of different models.
  • Tires with different tread patterns.
  • Frost-resistant and frost-resistant tires.
  • New and retreaded tires.
  • New tires and tires with a deep tread pattern.

If we summarize the above information, then we can say that within the same axle, the tires must be completely identical.

Please note that the rules do not prohibit the use of tires with different wear on one axis.

Restrictions are imposed only on the use of new and retreaded tires, as well as new tires and tires with a deep tread pattern.

Tire restoration is as follows. A completely worn-out tire is sent to the factory, where a new layer of rubber with a tread is applied to it.

Deepening the tread pattern is the reverse operation. The worn-out tire is sent to the workshop, where it is cut using special equipment. new protector, i.e. deepen the grooves.

Retreaded and recessed tires cannot be used at the same time as new ones. As for tires with different wear, their use on the same axle is possible.

For example, if the car has damaged 2 right wheels, then the remaining left tires can be installed on one of the axles. On the other axle you need to put a couple of new tires. In this case, the wear of the front and rear wheels not the same, so the grip of the tires will vary. So, although it is not prohibited by the rules, I do not recommend installing tires with different wear on one axle unless absolutely necessary.

Penalty for different tires on the car

The penalty for using different tires on a car is provided for in part 1:

1. Driving in the presence of malfunctions or conditions under which, in accordance with the Basic Provisions for the Admission of Vehicles to Operation and Obligations officials for security road traffic the operation of a vehicle is prohibited, with the exception of malfunctions and conditions specified in parts 2 - 7 of this article, -

shall entail a warning or the imposition of an administrative fine in the amount of five hundred rubles.

Thus, the driver can receive a warning or a fine in the amount of 500 rubles.

A penalty can be imposed in the following cases:

  • Studded and non-studded tires are installed on the car at the same time.
  • Different tires are installed on one axle of the vehicle.

In conclusion, I want to emphasize once again that the use of different tires on the car leads to the fact that different wheels have a different coefficient of adhesion to the road. And this can lead to a U-turn of the car or to an accident. So when installing rubber, first of all, you need to think about your own safety, and not about a small fine for this violation.

Good luck on the road!

It is forbidden to operate the vehicle with various tires... But you can get to the place of repair or parking. Many cars have a stowaway instead of a spare wheel.

I did not understand if this winter there will be a winter one in front without thorns, in the back summer tires, can they be fined or not?

Yuri-128, read the articles here.

Yuri, so far there is no penalty for the specified tire combination.

Good luck on the road!

will there be winter tires in front without spikes, summer tires in the back, can they be fined or not?

If you stud the summer one, they will definitely be fined.

And if the rear axle is winter, on the front - an all-season? Drive 60 \ 40

Sergey-483

Are kumho i zen kw 31 and marshal i zen kw 31 tires considered different? Tires are produced by Kumho tires in one plant, but for different markets... The tread pattern, speed and load characteristics are identical. Can they be placed on the same axis?

5.5. Tires of various sizes, designs (radial, diagonal, chamber, tubeless), models, with different tread patterns, frost-resistant and non-frost-resistant, new and remanufactured, new and with a deep tread pattern are installed on one axle of the vehicle. The vehicle has studded and non-studded tires.

If the specified parameters of the tires match, then you can bet. One manufacturer or different, does not matter.

Max, if all of the listed tires are spike-free, then this is possible and will not be a violation.

Good luck on the road!

I would like to know which axles on the passenger car are we talking about? On trucks here it is clear, on the rear axle, 2 or even 3 wheels are installed on one axle. On a passenger car there are axle shafts, one wheel on each, there is rear axle- there is also one wheel on the axle?

Sergey-178

Now in 2018, it seems that no changes have been introduced anymore? Or did I miss something? After all, our traffic rules are changed almost every month.

A passenger car has axle shafts with one wheel on each, there is a rear axle - is there also one wheel on the axle?

One wheel each - on the half-axle, the rear axle consists of two half-axles, respectively, two (both) rear wheels tires of the same dimensions, designs (radial, diagonal, tube, tubeless), models, with different tread patterns, frost-resistant and frost-resistant, new and remanufactured, new and with a deep tread pattern must be installed. As well as on both front.

Have you noticed how LEDs have smoothly and imperceptibly entered our life? They are everywhere. They are everywhere. But even a few years ago, LED optics seemed like a fantasy. Especially in the auto industry. True, now, every year more and more car manufacturers, instead of standard halogen or xenon optics, install LED headlights on their cars. This became possible due to the fact that the cost of LED lamps has dropped significantly.

As a result, the ubiquitous fashion for LEDs came to the world and immediately the demand for LED optics appeared in the auto world. But not everyone can afford to buy new car with LED headlights. Therefore, many companies realized that it was time to produce LED lamp for the neighbor and high beam which can replace conventional halogen and xenon bulbs in headlights. Naturally, many motorists decided to purchase similar lamps for themselves by installing them on their car. But is it legal? And is there any responsibility for the installation of non-factory LED optics? Let's figure it out.

Technologies of the 21st century are increasingly taking over our world. Every year, more and more incredible innovative ideas appear, and yesterday's fantastic technologies are now becoming a reality. The progress of the digital age has not spared the auto industry. Especially lighting devices cars that have undergone significant changes over the past decades.

Moreover, progress in auto lighting over the past few years has become more significant than over the past 50 years. As a result, we saw how xenon optics first appeared in the auto industry. Then, LED. Now - laser light illumination.

But today we are not talking about that. As we have already said, all over the world (including in our country) at the moment there is an over-popularity of LED lamps that are installed in car headlights.

V last years more and more drivers are beginning to think about replacing halogen and xenon headlights with LED ones. How effective is it, etc. you can find out from our review article.

But there is one main question that worries many. Can I install in conventional headlights designed for halogen or xenon lamps, newfangled LED bulbs? Is there a responsibility in Russia for the installation of LED lamps in the front optics?

Unfortunately, many car owners think that there is no responsibility. After all, these are not xenon lamps, which are forbidden to be installed in halogen headlights. But this is not the case. The responsibility actually exists and is very strict. For example, for illegal installation LED lamps of low or high beam in the front optics, the driver may lose driving license... Are you surprised? Here are the details.

Why do many drivers believe that there is no responsibility for installing LED bulbs?

Indeed, an interesting paradox has developed in our country. For example, most drivers know that for the installation of xenon lamps in halogen headlights in Russia, liability is provided in the form of deprivation of a driver's license. That is why we no longer see a lot of cars on the road with "collective farm" xenon. You must admit that she is very harsh.

But why, then, every year everything appears on the roads of Russia more cars with LED bulbs, which are usually installed by vehicle owners themselves?

The fact is that a very large number of car enthusiasts believe that LED lamps can be installed in the front optics. Especially considering that many sellers of LED lamps for low and high beam provide a large number of different certificates and approvals, assuring buyers that LED lamps in halogen or xenon optics available for sale are indeed permitted in our country for use and sale.

But in fact, it turns out that most of the certificates for such lamps at the time of sale are either no longer valid or are suspended.

Also, do not forget that if the sale of LED lamps is allowed and there are valid permits and certificates, this does not mean that every car owner has the right to install them in the headlights of his car.

Therefore, the presence of certification of LED lamps in Russia does not mean that you have the right to install them in your car. Yes, you can buy. But no more if your headlights are strictly designed to work only with xenon or halogen bulbs.

That is, the situation is exactly the same as with xenon lamps, the installation of which is strictly prohibited in cars equipped with front optics designed for halogen incandescent lamps.

Accordingly, by setting in their halogen or xenon headlights LED lamps for low and high beam, you grossly violate the current Russian legislation, namely:

article 12.5 of part 3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation:

3. Driving a vehicle on the front of which are installed lighting devices with red lights or reflective red devices, as well as lighting devices, the color of the lights and the mode of operation of which do not meet the requirements of the Basic Provisions on the admission of vehicles to operation and the duties of officials to ensure road safety, -

Attracts deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period from six months to one year with the confiscation of the specified devices and devices.

What is the responsibility for installing LED bulbs in halogen or xenon headlights?

The installation of LED sources of low or high beam in the front halogen or xenon headlights is equivalent to equipping the car with red special signals. Accordingly, according to current traffic rules and the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, if the driver illegally installs LED lamps in the headlights designed for halogen or xenon lamps, then he faces liability in the form of deprivation driving license for up to 1 year.

Agree that this is a very strict measure. Also, do not forget that ignorance of the laws does not absolve you of responsibility. Therefore, under no circumstances should you install LED bulbs on your car in headlights that are not designed for this according to the factory specification.

Someone might think that in the above link to article 12.5 part 3 there is no direct prohibition on the installation of LED lamps in halogen or xenon headlights. But this is not the case.

Article 12.5 part 3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation refers us to the regulation on the basic requirements for the admission of vehicles to operation and the duties of officials to ensure road safety, for violations of which the driver can be brought to administrative responsibility.

So, in particular, according to paragraph 3 of the provision on the basic requirements for the admission of vehicles to operation and the duties of officials to ensure road safety, technical condition and equipment for vehicles involved in road traffic, in part related to road safety and security environment, must meet the requirements of the relevant standards, rules and manuals for their technical operation.

Accordingly, if the vehicle does not meet the relevant standards, its operation on the road common use prohibited.

What is the responsibility for installing LED headlights on a car with halogen or xenon headlights?

In principle, none. Yes, of course there is also responsibility for this. But it is very difficult to prove your guilt.

Formally, if instead of halogen headlights install LED optics on the car from a more expensive configuration of your model, then the maximum that you face is a fine of 500 rubles.

But according to the law, even if instead of xenon or halogen headlights you install on your car LED optics from your own model, but with more rich equipment, you are still required to make changes to the design of your car. The truth is that it will be impossible and unlikely to hold you accountable for this. After all, the traffic police officer will check the marking of the headlights and make sure that the lighting lamps installed in them correspond to the type of use of the optics. And the fact that you are using headlights from another version of the car is unlikely to be recognized by the traffic police officer.

Vehicle owners are not always able to minimize vehicle costs, often saving on components and consumables.

By cutting costs and striving to profit from the operation of the car, they even turn a blind eye to safety. You can get a fine from a traffic police officer without even violating traffic rules for overtaking, speeding or driving through an intersection.

Situations are considered dangerous when unequal tires on the axles are installed on the vehicle. Many do not even know if it is possible to bet different tires on different axes according to traffic rules in 2019.

Passenger cars are equipped with sets of tires, consisting of 4 identical tires, which can be used without restrictions. But if one of the tires is damaged, then it needs to be replaced.

If the remaining 3 tires are almost new, then the driver does not particularly want to buy a set of tires again. A car owner needs a single tire that fits the other three, and many sellers don't sell one tire at a time.

Can you ride on different tires?

Traffic rules regulate the use of tires on a vehicle... Clause 5.5 of the SDA states that the installation of tires with different rubber on one axle of vehicles is prohibited. The law has been in effect since 2010 and is valid until today.

According to clause 5.5, the operation of transport is prohibited if one axle is equipped with:

  • models with different tread patterns;
  • tires of different sizes and designs (tube and tubeless, radial and bias);
  • new and remanufactured with different tread;
  • frost-resistant and frost-resistant;
  • new tires with a tread deepening;
  • studded and non-studded tires.

This paragraph does not completely prohibit the use of different tires on the front and rear axles of a car, except for the simultaneous use of studded and non-studded tires.

Such an installation is definitely prohibited, it is categorically impossible to combine them. All 4 tires on the machine must be studded or non-studded.

On the one hand, this prohibition is useful, since motorists often take the issue of safety into the background, reducing the cost of car maintenance. A vehicle equipped with different tires on the same axle may behave unpredictably when braking.

This situation is especially dangerous in rain or ice on slippery road... Only the driver will be to blame for the sad consequences.

For example, if your machine has one dry tire and the other wheel is designed to prevent aquaplaning. When it rains, one wheel will skid, while the other will be stable on the road surface.

A fine of 500 rubles may threaten not only for different tires ... Although the classification of rubber is not in the traffic rules, but according to the current regulations international standards (Technical regulations Of the Customs Union), motorists who did not manage to change one type of rubber to another may be punished.

Winter tires are supposed to be installed on all wheels of vehicles... If one of the tires has become unusable, and it is not possible to find a replacement for it, then you can buy two identical tires and install them on one of the axles of the car.

At the same time, tires can vary significantly on different axles. The prohibition applies only to the installation of non-studded winter tires on the front axle of a car, and ordinary summer tires on the rear axle.

All tires on the car must be either summer or winter.

Ideally, tires should be matched with a minimum of differences.... If one of the winter tires is damaged, then the best option will buy a pair of winter tires by fitting them to one of the axles. Although there will be different winter tires on the front and rear, this is not a violation.

A bill is currently being discussed in favor of toughening the use of off-season tires. If adopted, car owners with the wrong tires may be fined 2,000 rubles.

It is possible that the owner of the vehicle was stopped at the moment when he was driving to the service station to change tires. If it was not possible to convince the employee of this verbally, then his explanations must be entered into the protocol on the violation.

If you have to dispute a fine, then this testimony will come in handy. You can also express your doubts about the correct measurement of the tread length.

If you were nevertheless handed a sanction order, you can pay a fine within 2 months or appeal it in court within 10 days if you have doubts about the legality of the inspector's measures.

You should also be aware that an appeal can be made against a court decision.... If the court rejects your case, you will have to pay the written amount.

Therefore, car owners should be more careful about the requirements for tires on wheels. In addition to monetary sanctions, this is important for your own and other people's safety on the roads.

Having in pairs unequal tires front and rear, you are using the car legally... The legislation does not say anything about this, there are no prohibitions.

Since the characteristics of the wheels are almost the same, pull to the sides vehicle should not, but there are still some nuances.

In order for the car to be able to better hold the road in the rain, the front and rear pairs of wheels must still have similar characteristics.

Previously, it was often practiced to combine summer and winter tires. Tires were installed on the rear axle of a machine with a classic drive winter type while summer tires remained on the front axle.

On four-wheel drive vehicles important components and the engine are located under the bonnet, so the bulk is diverted to the front.

If the car owner puts on the front of the car winter tires, then the car will perfectly keep the icy road in front, but rear part your his vehicle movement will dangle. This can lead to skidding of the vehicle, which is completely unsafe.

Although the law does not provide for a fine for different rubber on axles, you should still think about road safety. Installing wheels with different heights profile and from different manufacturers, we recommend that you make a minimum gap between the rubber diameter.

If, when checking a vehicle by an inspector, an installation of rubber with a different size on one axle is found, then you will be required to pay a fine for different tires on one axle in the amount of 500 rubles.

To avoid paying this amount, you can tell the traffic police officer that you just punctured the wheel and are heading to the maintenance station. But do not abuse this behavior, it will be much easier to replace the wheel on the axle, avoiding the problem.

Is it possible to put tires with different patterns on different axles and is this allowed?

Sometimes car owners install tires with different tread patterns on different axles.... In the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, there are no directly specified norms regarding the punishment for different tires on different axles.

Operation of the vehicle is permitted if there are two identical tires on the front axle of the vehicle, and on the rear axle there are also two identical tires. The two front tires may have a different pattern from the two rear tires.

It is enough to buy two identical tires and install them on one axle... Thus, you will save a little, but there will also be no problems with emergency braking due to the difference in tread patterns.

Is it allowed to fit tires with different tread patterns on the same axle?

If the tires have different tread patterns, the operating conditions of the car are violated, and this is not at all safe.

In clause 5.5. the corresponding norm is spelled out, and gives a reason for the traffic police officer to fine the driver 500 rubles or give him a warning.

Only identical tires should be installed on one axle of the car..

You cannot use different tires on the same axle, however, tires with different wear on the same axle are not subject to restrictions.

If your vehicle has damaged two left wheels, then you can install the remaining right tires on one of the axles, and a pair of new tires on the other axle.

The ban is imposed on the use of new and retreaded tires, as well as new tires and tires with a deep tread pattern:

  1. Reclaimed rubber Is when completely worn out tire sent to the factory, and there a new layer of rubber with a tread is applied to it.
  2. Deepening the tread pattern- this is when, with the help of special equipment, grooves are deepened on the tire, that is, a new tread is cut out.

Such recessed and remanufactured tires cannot be used simultaneously with new ones.

Without adhering to traffic rules, the driver can harm not only himself and his vehicle, but also those around him. As a result of improper use of the car, your own health may suffer, on which it is better not to save.

After the fight against excessive tinting on car windows began, drivers began to look for workarounds. One of them was use of auto curtains- pieces of fabric, fixed on glass or in door openings.

As many believe, since there is no special article about them in the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, it means that frame curtains or a mesh are quite acceptable. But the traffic police inspectors do not always agree with this practice. Let's figure out what the law says about this, and what to do if they find fault with you because of the car curtains.

○ Question about auto curtains: what, where, when.

First of all, the following should be noted: at the moment when the car is not in use and is parked, the owner has the right to use anything in it - curtains, mirror screens against the sun, blinds, any other device. Problems can only start when the curtains are used while driving.

The thing is that the traffic rules contain a list of faults and other situations in which it is forbidden to drive a car. Specifically, the curtains concerns clause 7.3, according to which it is unacceptable to drive a car in which objects or coatings are applied that limit visibility from the driver's seat. And this applies to the curtains to the fullest.

However, there are limitations here:

  • By itself, the installation of curtains or grids (as opposed to tinting) of any transparency is not a violation - but exactly until the moment when these curtains are closed. That is, if you put them on your car, but only use them in parking lots (and this, by the way, is a very sensible measure against thieves - there have been cases when the car was opened for a pack of cigarettes forgotten in the cabin) - no inspector has the right to you carp. And it is quite another matter if even on a sunny day you are driving with the curtains drawn.
  • As follows from the traffic rules, the curtains should not restrict the view. However, if you set them to back doors- then you can safely go: the glass of these doors does not affect the view, the driver must use the side mirrors. Moreover, the SDA directly allows in this case to use curtains and blinds even on rear window- if only there was a normal view through side mirrors, and they would be available on each side of the car.

But the use of an opaque curtain or any other dimming device installed on the front windows is no longer acceptable. The issue with transparent grids remains controversial: on the one hand, in this case, they should be considered according to the same rules as tinting (that is, those with less than 75% of the light are prohibited). On the other hand, the curtains obviously cannot be considered a coating.

○ Current fines for the installation of curtains.

Now let's figure out what threatens the guilty if he violates traffic regulations concerning auto curtains.

Installing curtains where they should not be is considered an offense under Art. 12.5. However, which particular part will be applied depends on the specific situation:

  • Part 1 - in the event that it is the blinds or car curtains that are used, that is, a separate device attached to the frame separately from the glass;
  • Part 3.1 - for nets and other devices that are attached directly to the glass and can be considered as a coating (a kind of tinting).

Oddly enough, the punishment in both cases will be the same: both parts provide a fine of 500 rubles. However, in the case of Part 1, there is still an opportunity to make verbal warning... Usually it is used if the driver is “clean” in terms of violations, and the inspector himself is in a good mood.

In addition to a fine, the perpetrator may face more removal of the curtains themselves which in in this case are an instrument of the offense. This possibility is provided for by Part 1 of Art. 27.10 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation.

However, this requires either an official video recording (the filming that the inspector makes on his personal phone, this cannot be considered!), Or two attesting witnesses signing the protocol.

○ How to replace auto curtains?

What should a driver do, who still wants to hide the car interior from the sun, insects - and, finally, just from prying eyes? There are several options here:

  • You can still use car curtains - but only when parked, and in motion - only on the rear doors and rear window. In this case, in the retracted position, the curtains should not protrude beyond the dimensions of the racks.
  • Using transparent meshes. This option is especially relevant for cars that are not equipped with air conditioning: nets trap insects, flying debris - and partly dust. However, here you need to ensure that the transparency of such meshes is at least 70%.
  • The use of visors and tinting in the upper part of the windshield is allowed.
  • Finally, on sunny days, it is better for the driver to wear sunglasses than tinted glasses or curtains. In this case, you can choose their transparency according to your taste - they have no right to find fault with you.
