Opel astra h Hatchback technical specifications review description photo video. Three-door hatchback Opel Astra H GTC Price and configuration of Astra K

In 1991, replaced Opel Kadett a new generation of “golf-class” models has arrived with a sonorous name - Astra (translated from Latin as “star”).

The first generation Opel Astra (designated F) offered a wide range of modifications consisting of 3- and 5-door hatchbacks, a 4-door sedan, a 5-door Caravan station wagon and its commercial 3-door cargo version (without rear glass). At the same time, sports modifications also debuted: GT, equipped with a 2-liter engine (115 hp), and the most powerful 16-valve GSI -2.0 liter (150 hp). It is noteworthy that the GSI version was produced not only in the traditional version (3-door hatchback), but also as a 5-door Caravan station wagon. Two years later the range was expanded with a new four-seater convertible Astra.

The choice of power units is impressive. All are 4-cylinder, in-line, with a volume of 1.4 to 2 liters. Two diesel engines - Opel 1.7 l (60 hp) and Japanese Isuzy turbodiesel 1.7 l (82 hp). The most common in Russia is the 1.6-liter Gas engine With central injection(C16NZ).

Most of the cars were equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission; Astras with a 4-speed automatic transmission are much less common.

The interior of the car creates a pleasant impression. It is distinguished by simple lines, but everything is quite functional and practical. High-quality materials were used in the decoration. The seats are quite comfortable and have good lateral support. The dashboard is very elegant, and the center console, for greater convenience, is slightly turned towards the driver. The front seats have a wide range of adjustments to allow you to find the optimal driving position.

The moderately soft and comfortable chassis of the Opel Astra does not cause any trouble while driving, and thanks to the installation of an anti-roll bar at the front and rear, the cars hold the road well. The front suspension is independent - McPherson type, and the rear suspension is semi-independent with a separately installed spring and shock absorber. The braking system is very effective, and the cars recent years releases were equipped with an ABS system as standard. Most Astras have front discs brake mechanisms and rear drums, and sports modifications - front and rear discs.

The volume of the luggage compartment is unrivaled. The 3- and 5-door hatchbacks have a trunk volume of 360 liters, the 5-door Caravan station wagon has 500 liters, with the rear seats folded down 1200 liters and 1630 liters, respectively.

In 1994, the car was restyled and its appearance was slightly changed. The quality of the interior trim was improved, and an airbag appeared in the steering wheel. The exterior of the restyled Astra featured a new false radiator grille.

In 1997, the second generation Opel Astra (G) was presented for the first time in Frankfurt. It is noteworthy that not a single important detail was taken from its predecessor. Opel offered a car that was completely redesigned. Design, ergonomics, ride quality, functionality, quality of interior finishing have been greatly improved. Astra was offered in three body types: two hatchbacks - three- and five-door and a station wagon. The Astra sedan appeared only a year later.

In the fight for consumers, Opel offers a wide range of modifications. Astra could be anything: sedate and fast, family and individual. Mass car had to please customers with different needs. The body of the new Astra is distinguished by excellent aerodynamics. The drag coefficient Cx is only 0.29. The strength of the body has increased. Its torsional rigidity has increased significantly compared to the body of the old Astra. We also note that about 20 grades of steel are used in the body of the new Astra. The second generation features significantly improved anti-corrosion resistance. Opel provides a 12-year warranty against perforation corrosion.

Safety is ensured by seat belts and four airbags - two front and two side, hidden in the backs of the front seats. The design of the pedal assembly is similar to that found on the Opel Vectra. If during an impact the deformation touches the pedals, they do not move, but simply fall off: the brackets become crushed and “release” the pedals.

For the first time in the small middle class, the Astre G was equipped with a rear steering suspension, which ensures stable behavior of the car in sharp turns.

The interior space of the cabin is sufficient to comfortably accommodate five passengers.

Compared to the previous model, the number of modifications was slightly reduced, since the convertible was discontinued. But there are still a sedan, a three- and five-door hatchback, as well as a Caravan station wagon.

Gasoline power units were borrowed from previous model, but the range of diesel engines has been replenished with new 2.0-liter turbodiesels with a power of 82 hp. (or 101 hp in the version with direct fuel injection).

In 1999, based on the Astra model, with the help of the Bertone design studio, a new version was created - with a Coupe body. A year later, it went into production, and in 2001, the Opel Astra Cabrio was also produced on the basis of this car. Both of these modifications, despite the relatively low price, are a kind of exclusive, because they are assembled by hand at the Bertone factory.

The body of the Opel Astra Cabrio looks equally swift both with the top up and down. Has excellent aerodynamics. The drag coefficient Cx, even with the roof down, does not exceed 0.32. The roof of the new convertible folds and unfolds automatically, and only in the basic version the roof edge is fastened to the windshield with mechanical locks; in more advanced models, the locks are automatic and the roof can even be controlled remotely.

The car is equipped with three types of 1.6 petrol engines; 1.8 and 2.2 liters. The last of the power units made its debut on the Opel Astra Coupe and was developed jointly by engineers from several divisions of the General Motors concern; it will be installed not only on the coupe and convertible, but also on other cars of the auto giant. The engine meets Euro IV toxicity standards.

The second generation was discontinued in 2003. The era of the third generation of Astra cars has begun.

The distinctive features of the new Astra are more rapid body lines, as well as new head and rear optics, made in the style of the Opel Signum model. The interior of the new product is different high quality materials used and stylish design. The third generation is built on a completely redesigned platform and includes a three- and five-door hatchback, as well as a station wagon (Caravan) and a convertible.

The range of engines is represented by: petrol engines 1.4 l (90 hp), 1.6 l (105 hp), 1.8 l (125 hp) and 2.2 liters, as well as 1, 7- and 2.2-liter turbodiesels. Buyers are offered a choice of a five-speed manual transmission, a five-speed sequential electronic automatic transmission (Easytronic), a four-speed classic automatic transmission or a new six-speed manual transmission (for the turbo version). Suspension: McPherson front, dependent rear.

The cargo compartment volume of the latest generation Opel Astra Caravan will be 580 liters, which is 50 liters more than the previous generation model. We also note that for this new product the FlexOrganizer system will also be offered, which allows you to optimize the placement of luggage in cargo compartment, which first appeared on the Opel Vectra station wagon.

It should also be noted that the new generation of this model meets all modern safety requirements and has received many new passive and active safety systems, including adaptive airbags.

The new Opel Astra has an impressive range of basic and additional options for its class. The Opel Astra is equipped with an adaptive electronic suspension control system (IDSPlus); system of continuously variable control of its characteristics (CDC); the IDS plus system provides good dynamic characteristics car when exiting sport mode, which can be turned on by simply pressing a dedicated button.

For the first time, cars of this class are equipped with an adaptive headlight control system (AFL) and a headlight control system automatic switching on when road illumination decreases.

In 2004, Opel introduced the Astra GTC (Gran Turismo Compact). The target group of buyers of this car consists of both enthusiasts drive fast, and connoisseurs of sophisticated automotive style. The proportions of the GTC, which is 15 mm shorter than the base version, are emphatically dynamic. The eye is attracted by the short overhangs of the body and the rear part, which is more prominent than that of the five-door Astra. The sloping roof, triangular side windows and powerful sidewalls are designed to speak of the combat character of the car.

From prototype production car received not only the general outline, but also a wonderful glass roof, which can be ordered as additional equipment. The large glass area of the body gives a good overview.

High ergonomics of the driver's seat and interior trim made from high-quality materials emphasize the advantages of the car. Designers provide several interior options: from classic gray and black to bright red and blue. The Astra GTC is offered in three performance levels: Enjoy, Cosmo and Sport.

Despite the fact that the car has become shorter than the five-door version, two adult passengers can comfortably sit in the back. The trunk volume remains unchanged – it remains 380 liters. But due to the fact that the rear seats fold in a ratio of 60:40 as standard or 40:20:40 as an option, the luggage compartment space can be modulated.

The standard equipment of the car includes front and side airbags, a CD player, ABS, electric windows, heated exterior mirrors, an anti-dust bag, Break Assistant and other equipment. Options include the increasingly popular CD radios with the ability to play MP3 files, as well as the ESP and HAS electronic systems.

The Astra GTC is available with a wide range of engines, consisting of five petrol and three diesel engines, equipped with a common-rail system. Engine power varies from 90 to 200 hp, all of them comply with Euro 4 standards in terms of exhaust purity.

In the line of gasoline power units, the flagship is a 200-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. With it, the Astra GTC reaches a top speed of 234 km/h. Among turbodiesels, the top one is the 1.9-liter engine with 150 hp. With. These versions are equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission and adaptive suspension Interactive Driving System (IDSPlus) with electronic control shock absorber stiffness.

The Astra GTC is equipped with adaptive AFL headlights that adjust the light beam depending on the steering angle of the front wheels. Using the SportSwitch button, the driver can activate the sport mode, which adjusts the ride height and accelerator settings. In general, everything is for driving pleasure.

The three-door Astra GTC is produced in Belgium, in Antwerp. The station wagon and hatchback are also assembled there.

The new generation of Opel Astra was presented during the 2009 Frankfurt Salon. At the heart of the five-door hatchback Astra The 2010 model year is based on GM's new front-wheel drive Delta II platform. The length of the car's wheelbase compared to its predecessor has increased by 71 millimeters (to 2685 millimeters), and the front and rear tracks have widened by 56 and 70 millimeters, respectively. In addition, the angular stiffness of the front and rear suspension has increased, and the body has become stiffer by 43 percent in torsion and 10 percent in bending.

Astra 2010 bears little resemblance to its predecessor - both inside and outside. New model I inherited almost no detail. A new generation and a completely new appearance. Quadrangular headlights have given way to complex-shaped optics with LED lights, the radiator grille is made in the Insignia style, and the general shape of the fog lamp sections and the lower air intake remains the same, but is slightly “modernized”. Even in the five-door version, the car has become noticeably sportier - a dynamic roof line, a strongly inclined rear window, enhancing the “compartment” effect, deep stamping on the doors, sharp edges of the hood and fashionable LEDs in the headlights.

The interior is pleasing to the eye and pleasant to the touch. The main motive is the softness and logic of the lines and the “cockpit” concept: the interior elements seem to surround the driver. We are pleased with the pleasant-to-touch finishing materials, sports seats from Insignia (optional), diffused red lighting of the door handles and the central tunnel in the area of the gearshift lever, and many compartments for small items, which the predecessor so lacked. There are pockets on the doors, a “shelf” on the center console, a large drawer under the front passenger seat, a niche to the left of the steering wheel, as well as cup holders with a secret “underfloor” that can accommodate a mobile phone, wallet or GPS navigator. The manufacturer has significantly improved the sound insulation of the cabin. New seals were installed, hollow sections in the body were insulated, and the aerodynamics of external elements such as rear-view mirrors and even door handles were worked out in detail.

Astra 2010 has become not only more practical, but also more spacious - new salon wider both at shoulder level and at hip level, and the range of adjustments for the front seats is simply enormous: the front seats move back and forth by 28 centimeters, and up and down by 6.5 centimeters.

Depending on the configuration, the interior can be decorated differently. In the basic version of Essentia, the center console is made in dark colors, and the seats have fabric upholstery with a contrasting pattern of pillows and inserts on the backs. In the Enjoy modification, the inserts on the doors and console can be made in black, red or blue. In Sport, the center console, door handles and trims around the air vents have a piano black finish. The Cosmo version offers different seats and a two-tone console trim. If desired, you can now order a heated steering wheel.

To please practical drivers, Opel engineers came up with the FlexFloor system. Simply put, this is a movable trunk floor that can be located on three levels and can withstand a load of up to 100 kilograms. In the lower position, it is just a regular cover, level matching the curtain covering the repair kit. On average, the shelf is installed flush with the folded backrests rear seats, removing the step and facilitating the placement of long items. Due to the fact that the floor level is slightly raised, an additional compartment with a depth of 55 millimeters and a volume of 52 liters is formed under the shelf. In the very top position the shelf lines the floor of the luggage compartment with rear bumper, which allows you to load heavy cargo into the trunk without bending. The section under the shelf in this case increases its volume to 126 liters and its depth to 157 millimeters. In short, the FlexFloor system allows you to intelligently distribute space in the trunk. For the cheapest versions, FlexFloor will be offered as an option.

The wide range of Ecotec engines proves that the 2010 Opel Astra can combine high power and driving dynamics with fuel efficiency and low level harmful emissions. The car is equipped with naturally aspirated petrol engines (1.4 Ecotec/101 hp and 1.6 Ecotec/116 hp), as well as compact turbocharged engines with a maximum power of 1.4 l/140 hp. and 1.6 l/180 hp. respectively. All of them are built using 16-valve technology and equipped with modern systems that optimize the parameters of the intake air flow. The engines are manufactured using lightweight materials and designs that minimize their weight. Modern manual transmissions (5 or 6-speed) are combined with gasoline engines. In addition, all engines except the 1.4 Ecotec can be equipped with a new 6-speed automatic transmission with ActiveSelect function. The range of diesel units is represented by three engines: 1.3 l/95 hp, 1.7 l 110 hp. and 125 hp and 2.0 l/160 hp.

The 2010 Astra's chassis combines a MacPherson strut front suspension, similar to that found on the Insignia, and a newly developed intelligent torsion beam rear suspension with Watt linkage. This new design reduces unwanted noise and vibration, providing interior comfort, and also improves vehicle handling.

Another innovation is the optional FlexRide adaptive suspension. The chassis is controlled by a specially designed chassis mode control (DMC) that recognizes 11 various situations that occur during movement, such as driving at a constant high or low speed, turning or accelerating. Based on this, it automatically optimizes the parameters of all driving assistance systems integrated in the vehicle's chassis. Another key component of the FlexRide system is Dynamic Control (CDC), which adjusts suspension stiffness in real time based on changing vehicle operating conditions. It operates in three modes: automatic (Standart), sport (Sport) and comfortable (Tour). In the first case, the chassis adapts to the road situation and driving style - the electronics independently decide whether to leave the softest settings for a better ride or, conversely, increase the steering force and make the shock absorbers stiffer.

In Sport mode, the white backlight of the instrument panel changes to red, the steering wheel becomes “heavier”, and the response to pressing the gas pedal and reaction adaptive headlights head light - become aggravated. Moreover, the driver through on-board computer can disable one of these parameters by customizing the Sport mode to suit itself. Tour mode is the most comfortable. In it, reactions to the steering wheel are noticeably lengthened, road unevenness is no longer transmitted to the body, and sharp turns the car begins to roll. In extreme situations, the system automatically adjusts the suspension stiffness to provide the best possible handling and safety, regardless of the selected mode.

The elegant Opel Astra Sports Tourer station wagon will premiere at the Paris Motor Show in September 2010, combining first-class functionality with an athletic body and stylish design. The model is made in the same style as the 5-door hatchback and demonstrates the presence of smooth but athletic shapes and curved side lines. The impeccable profile and sidewall stampings add a sense of speed to the Astra Sports Tourer, and the powerful shoulder line flows laconically into the elegantly crafted rear lights. The station wagon took the design features of the 105.7-inch wheelbase from the hatchback, additionally acquiring increased load capacity and much more interior space.

Opel specialists have developed a FlexFold rear seat system that allows you to move each section back row at the touch of a button located on the side panel of the luggage compartment. The button automatically activates the quick folding of the rear row seats in a 60/40 ratio. The Opel Astra Sports Tourer was the first C-Class car to be equipped with such a system. Luggage compartment volumes vary from 500 to 1550 liters. The Easy-Access Cargo Cover, borrowed from luxury models, allows the luggage compartment cover to be opened with a light touch.

The Astra Sports Tourer features high-quality interior trim. For comfortable travel over long distances, the car is equipped with ergonomic front seats that have been certified by independent spinal health experts from Aktion Gesunder Rűcken (AGR), the German medical association that has established orthopedic requirements for car seats.

The rear axle of the new station wagon also benefits from the innovative rear suspension using Watt links, used in the 5-door Opel Astra model: it provides a reliable level of controllability and high adaptability to increased weight loads. Flexride adaptive suspension will be available as an option for the most demanding drivers.

If we talk about the technical characteristics of the Opel Astra Sports Tourer, the range of power units for the station wagon contains 8 engines that combine efficiency, strength, functionality and environmental friendliness. Magnitude maximum power is in the range of 95 hp. up to 180 hp

The presence of a standard towing device and the Trailer Stability Assist trailer stabilization system complements the list of offered options. In addition, Opel engineers are developing a new generation of integrated bicycle racks, FlexFix, which will be presented a little later.

In 2011, Opel released the second generation of the three-door Astra GTC hatchback. The car stands out for its original design and excellent handling. Compared to the five-door version of Astra, the ground clearance has been reduced by 15 mm, the front wheel track has become 1584 mm, which is 40 mm more, the rear wheel track has become 1588 mm, an increase of 30 mm, and wheelbase grew by 10 mm - to 2695 mm. This allows the GTC to be equipped with larger wheels (from 17 to 20 inches), which contributes to increased stability and a sportier appearance.

There are some similarities with the 5-door version of the Opel Astra, but these two cars do not have a single common body part! Because everything has been changed: from the expression of the “face” to the inclination of the body pillars and even the chassis.

Excellent dynamics and first-class handling are achieved through a unique chassis design. Like the coolest Opel Insignia OPC, the front suspension of the Astra GTC uses modified MacPherson struts. Only here they are called HiPer Strut (from High Performance). Their main difference is the steering knuckle, separated from the rack. Angle it lateral inclination less than that of an all-moving strut, which reduces the camber angle of the wheels in corners. Their contact patch with the asphalt becomes larger, and turns can be taken faster. The steering knuckle itself is shorter than the strut, which reduces the sensitivity of the steering to shocks. The front suspension is perfectly combined with the sophisticated Watt rear suspension system, Opel's patented technology. The Astra GTC chassis is specially designed to integrate with intelligent system FlexRide adaptive suspension control. It improves road stability, cornering stability and handling by automatically adapting to road conditions, vehicle speed and individual driving style. In addition, the FlexRide system allows you to select one of three chassis modes and change the behavior of the car at the touch of a button: you can choose at any time the balanced “Standard” mode, the comfortable “Tour” or the more active “Sport” mode.

The Opel Astra GTC is offered with a choice of four engines, three of which are petrol and one diesel. If the five-door engine range starts at 95 hp, then here it starts at 120 hp.

These are already known from the five-door petrol 1.4 liter turbo in versions of 120 and 140 hp. Fuel consumption is 5.9 liters per 100 km. CO2 emissions: 139 g/km. The most powerful gasoline engine is the 1.6-liter turbocharged version with 180 hp, which allows you to reach speeds of up to 220 km/h, it is available with a six-speed manual transmission.

The most promising engine for Europe, the 2.0 CDTi turbodiesel with Start-Stop mode, produces five horsepower and as much as 30 Nm more than the five-door: 165 hp. and 380 Nm. The Opel Astra GTC 2.0 CDTI is capable of reaching a speed of 210 kilometers per hour, accelerating from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in 8.9 seconds, while consuming fuel in mixed cycle 4.9 liters per 100 kilometers. CO2 emissions are 129 g/km.

Despite attractive design With coupe styling, the Astra GTC doesn't sacrifice functionality. The car not only seats five passengers, but also has a trunk volume from 370 to 1,235 liters. Interior storage space has increased by 50% compared to the previous generation GTC, thanks largely to the addition of an electric parking brake, which frees up space in the most accessible area of the cabin, the center tunnel.

The second generation Opel Eye television camera is intended to assist the driver. In addition to participating in the signal about falling out of lane, she learned to recognize more road signs and determine the distance to the car in front (depending on it, she also gives a command to switch the bi-xenon headlights from high to low).

Opel Astra is a small family car(the “C” class niche in the European category), which is announced in two 5-door versions (hatchback and station wagon), as well as a 4-door sedan. The model has a stylish design, competitive technical features and an excellent level of practicality. All.

The car is aimed at buyers who want to have a modern car, but at an affordable price. Not long ago, the new fifth generation Opel Astra (K) was released. This happened in the fall of 2015 during international exhibition in Frankfurt. Interestingly, Opel decided to declassify its new product ahead of schedule at the beginning of June.

The vehicle retained the proportions of the previous model, however, it became brighter, lighter and more technologically advanced in all respects. Following the official presentation, the hatchback should reach the shelves of European dealers, but the car is unlikely to reach our customers. This is all due to the recent departure of the brand from the Russian market.

Car history

First generation Astra F (1991-1997)

The debut family of Opel Astra compact cars has been produced since July 1991. In the fall of 1994, the vehicle underwent minor improvements. The car was produced in Poland under the name Astra Classic. The Opel Astra (F) serves as the successor to the Opel Kadett (E) and is the sixth version in the Kadett/Astra series.

After the 1994 update, they began to produce a modernized version of the Astra (F), which received improved corrosion protection. It’s nice that the company took into account the wishes of customers and allowed the installation of a four-speed automatic gearbox from the Japanese company Aisin AW as an option.

Like other Opel cars produced in previous years, the Astra (F) body did not have zinc protective coating However, the quality of the paintwork was quite good. This point allowed the company to provide a guarantee for its products for 6 years. It concerned the body, and to be more precise, its invulnerability to rust.

In addition to the 3- and 5-door body, the Opel Astra had a sedan and station wagon version. A 3-door station wagon was produced in small quantities (this version did not have glazing). It is also very rare to find an Opel Astra model in a convertible body, which has been produced since 1993 at the company's facilities.

A 3-door station wagon was produced in small quantities

As mentioned above, 3 years after the presentation of the car, modernization was carried out. Thanks to the update, new turn signals and a radiator grille began to be installed. If earlier the turn signals were orange, then restyling changed them to white.

The appearance of the Opel Astra (F) of the 1st family is called calm and a little classic. It would not be superfluous to note that this model does not have an inflated price tag, so many, when choosing inexpensive cars, give preference to a European rather than an or.

It is very pleasant that after the 1994 update, all Opel Astra (F) even in the basic version had hydraulic power steering. In addition, the minimum configuration had front electric windows.

Opel Astra Convertible

The basic music system of a German car has 4 speakers. Even then, the German company was seriously concerned about the level of safety, equipping its models with belt tensioners with squibs, which, coupled with the front Airbags, available in the minimum configuration, significantly increased the level of safety in the first generation Opel Astra (F).

If we talk about the ventilation system, then it had air recirculation, blocking the path of outside air inside. Already in the following 1995, the debut version had a new front panel. The “German”’s interior had a clear and understandable dashboard, which displayed the main data of the car.

Steering wheel it was comfortable and big. To the left of it there was a lighting “twist” with an adjustment function, as well as keys for turning on the front and rear fog lighting. The seats installed in front are quite comfortable and have good lateral support.

The center console received a small “pocket”, at the end of which information about the time, date and temperature outside was displayed. The back of the rear sofa, according to the owners of the first generation Opel Astra, turned out to be a bit short. The sedan version was equipped with a luggage compartment that could hold 500 liters. The three and five-door hatchback could boast only 360 liters of usable space.

From the very beginning, only gasoline power units with a volume of 1.4 to 2.0 liters were installed on German cars. All engines had electronic system fuel supply, however, some markets could see the first carburetor engines, such as the 14NV 1.4 liter, which developed 75 horsepower. They began equipping cars with a diesel power plant 3 months after the car was released.

Initially, only one diesel engine was available - 17YD 1.7 liter, developing 57 “horses”. The transmission can be a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic (Aisin).

It is noteworthy that the Opel Astra (F) I generation had a wide range of active and passive systems security. During the design of the machine using a computer, specialists were able to calculate the rigidity elements. The body was distinguished by its torsional strength. Installed height-adjustable seat belts.

The seats, along with the seat belt anchors, are designed to prevent the person sitting under the belt from slipping. Astra (F) had an optional airbag for the owner. At the end of 1994, 2 airbags began to be installed as standard. Electronics, in the form of an anti-lock braking system, could be installed optionally until the very end of the car's production.

As for the suspension, it was moderately soft and comfortable, and with the help of anti-roll bars front and rear, the cars held the road well. An independent McPherson-type suspension was installed in front, and a semi-independent one in the rear, where springs and shock absorbers were installed separately.

The steering wheel had rack and pinion mechanism and was distinguished by acceptable information content. As a braking system, disc devices were installed in front, and a drum mechanism was installed in the rear.

Second generation Astra G (1998-2004)

In 1997, during the next Frankfurt Motor Show, the second Opel Astra family was presented for the first time, receiving the index (G). It’s interesting that they decided not to take anything from the previous generation - it was a newly designed car.

Production of the 2nd generation Opel Astra was stopped in 2004, but the car continued to be sold in Russia until the first half of 2005. This option is called more “compartment” in terms of design. The novelty began its life as a 3- and 5-door C-segment hatchback, there was also a station wagon, a convertible, a coupe and a well-known sedan.

A fully galvanized body is one of the factors that made the 2nd Astra family a revolutionary car. The chassis, ergonomics, design, body, they decided to radically reconsider and design everything almost from scratch. They decided not to change only the ideology of the model - the possibility of configuration for any stylistic decision, character, temperament and financial condition of a person.

The production of Astras in coupe and convertible bodies was carried out by a company from Italy - Bertone. The drag coefficient of the German car in the “sedan” version was 0.29. The convertible with the roof down received only a slightly increased figure - 0.32.

The cone-shaped style of the 2nd generation Opel Astra has striking corporate features that can clearly be recognized as vehicles from Rüsselsheim. It turned out for real stylish car. The soft curves of the surfaces, which contrast with the edges and lines, do not lose the integrity of previous Astra models.

The body also has sporty notes. They decided to move the windshield forward by 120 millimeters, which made it possible to emphasize the wedge-shaped body type, visually reducing the dimensions of the hood. The salon turned out to be simple and laconic. Among the innovations are the presence of a liquid crystal display of the on-board computer and an airbag for the passenger.

If we compare the new product with its “cramped” predecessor, the 2nd generation Opel Astra turned out to be more spacious. It often happens that due to significant temperature changes inside and outside the car, it can crack. Windshield. Even the company management itself recognized the problem of insufficient glass strength and quite often replaced the front glass under warranty.

The designers decided to borrow the pedal assembly from (B), and this means that in the event of a serious collision, the pedals are disconnected, and this, in turn, does not give them the opportunity to “go” into the cabin. The basic version of the Opel Astra (G) has a driver's airbag, however, you can often find 4 and even 6 Airbags.

The luggage compartment of the German-made 3- and 5-door hatchback received 370 liters of usable space. The sedan holds 460 liters, and the record volume belongs to the station wagon - 480 liters. However, this is not all; if necessary, you can significantly increase this figure to 1,500 liters if you fold the rear backrests.

The list of power units includes economical gasoline engines, in the amount of 6 copies, and a couple of engines running on diesel fuel. The gasoline range starts from 1.2-liter (65/48 horsepower) to 2.0-liter (136/100 “horses”). Such power plants comply with Euro 3 emission standards, which came into force in 2001.

Diesel engines received a volume of 1.7 liters, designed for 68 and 50 horsepower, as well as 2.0 liters, which develop 82 and 60 “horses”. The newest division of ECOTEC engines has 1.2 and 1.8-liter gasoline units and a 2.0-liter engine. They are distinguished by a four-valve timing mechanism and direct fuel injection.

Opel Astra Eco4 engine

On top of that, the 2.0-liter version gets two balancer shafts to improve its smooth operation. The synchronizer is a 4-speed (Japanese company Aisin) or 5-speed manual gearbox, which has hydraulic drive clutch. The chassis structure has received major improvements.

The front uses aluminum McPherson struts and a tubular subframe (on which the engine is mounted), and the rear has a torsion beam. Supplementary features include springs, gas-filled shock absorbers and the DSA system. The brake system has disc braking devices, and in front they received a ventilation function.

Standard equipment includes ABS from another well-known German company Bosch. The Opel Astra (G) turned out to be actually practical and safe. The company's employees were able to work out the security structure. When a vehicle collides with an obstacle, the power unit goes to the bottom, and thanks to the directional deformation of the body, it is possible to save the necessary living space inside the car.

In the event of a side impact, passengers are protected by power beams hidden under the door trim. The built-in protection system allows you to save lives in critical situations. It has two full-size airbags for the driver and passenger, airbags in the backs of the front seats, and pyrotechnic seat belt tensioners. By using improved quality steel, it was possible to almost double the body's torsional and bending rigidity.

Third generation Astra H (2004-2009)

The third version of the Opel Astra was officially presented in 2004 in Istanbul. They decided to assign it an index (H). The new model lasted on the automobile market until 2010, after which it gave way to the new Opel Astra (J).

The production of the third generation was launched at a Polish enterprise, and since 2008 in Russia. The competitors of the Opel Astra (H) are the KIA Cerato I , Mazda 3 of the first version, Chevrolet Lacetti and other vehicles produced in previous years.

The body range of the German car included a five-door hatchback, a three-door GTC hatchback, and an Astra TwinTop coupe-convertible. The director of the Opel design studio in Rüsselsheim, Friedhelm Engler, who also worked on Opel Corsa and other company vehicles.

If we talk about a dynamic “shoulder” line and a streamlined roof, a wide base with small overhangs, stylish headlights with lanterns and embossed contours of the arches, then they are the ones who can make this car one of the most attractive players in the golf class. It is also important that the third generation Opel Astra (H) is a rather “free” option, suitable for both men and women.

It's not just because of the design. “The five-door is utilitarian, despite its bright and catchy originality. The vehicle is simple and undemanding to drive, and the interior decoration will not get boring. It is very funny that the drag coefficient of the Opel Astra (H) did not decrease, like the previous model, but increased.

Now this figure was 0.32 versus 0.29 for old version. In addition, the new product has become 60 kilograms heavier, and the wheelbase has increased by 8 millimeters. In addition to the popular hatchback version, they also produced a sedan, which was also liked by many car enthusiasts. The body of a German vehicle was covered protective layer zinc, however, based on the reviews of the owners, questions about the quality of coloring still arose.

Opel Astra TwinTop

The interior decoration is made in German style. The center console is not loaded with buttons, and the dashboard, made in the same style as the hood, is “forked” with a kind of “keel”. Regarding the upholstery materials, they are soft and pleasant to the touch. Separately, you will be pleased with the door panels, which are covered with faux leather and stitched with stylish white threads.

Thanks to the comfortable seats of the 3rd generation Opel Astra, you can easily tune in to the trip, relax and calm down. The pedals are soft and easy to move. The steering wheel is electrically power-assisted.

There is enough free space, but nothing more. The luggage compartment volume of the sedan and station wagon versions is surprisingly the same - 490 liters. The five-door hatchback received 375 liters, and the Opel Astra H GTC version received 340 liters of usable space. Only the convertible version has the most small trunk– 205 liters.

From 2004 to 2008, german car equipped with gasoline-powered engines with the following technical characteristics:

  • 1.4 liters (75 “horses);
  • 1.6 (105 horsepower);
  • 1.8 (125 horsepower).

There was also a 1.7-liter diesel version, rated at 101 horsepower. When restyling took place (in 2007), production continued with engines:

  • 1.4 (90 horsepower),
  • 1.6 (105 “horses”
  • 1.8 (140 “hooves”).

The diesel side was represented by two diesel engines - a CDTI 1.7-liter, developing 125 horsepower, and a 1.3-liter, producing 90 horsepower. All gasoline installations use a belt in the gas distribution mechanism, which needs to be replaced every 90,000 - 110,000 kilometers.

A separate “individual” is considered to be a version of the OPC representing sports model Opel Astra (N). It has a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine capable of producing 240 horsepower.

Such “engines” work together with mechanical, robotic and automatic transmissions. They can be installed on any body at the request of the buyer. All torque is transmitted from the box only to the front wheels. The suspension turned out to be collected and a little stiff, which is well reflected in fast turns by the absence of rolls and the quick reaction of the chassis to steering wheel actions.

Opel Astra (H) sedan

There is an independent McPherson-type suspension in front, and a semi-independent torsion bar in the rear. As mentioned above, the steering is electrically power-assisted. The braking system is represented by ventilated front disc devices and rear disc mechanisms.
An Opel version was also produced Astra Family– representing a sedan body and an Opel Astra Family Station Wagon, in a station wagon body. Basic equipment The Essentia hatchback has:

  • Front and side airbags;
  • Fog lights;
  • Electric windows;
  • Power steering wheel;
  • Heated mirrors;
  • Air conditioning;
  • Audio system;
  • Central locking;
  • Alarm;
  • Immobilizer.

This version has a 1.6-liter 115-horsepower engine and a 5-speed manual transmission.

Fourth generation Astra J (2009-2014)

The fourth family was demonstrated for the first time during the Frankfurt exhibition in 2009. The “first-born” model was a 5-door hatchback. When the summer of 2012 arrived, this version, along with all representatives of “Generation J”, underwent a minor restyling.

Appearance

It’s no secret that German specialists are distinguished by their accuracy and pedantry, which can be seen in appearance cars. The headlights resemble eagle eyes. It's nice that they have LED garland, which has become very fashionable today.

Achieve Elegant appearance for the fourth generation Opel Astra J, it was possible with the help of a squat shape and A-pillars that flow smoothly from the hood. To create the impression of lightness and not “sporty power”, the design team decided to equip the model with a wide air intake under the front bumper, and also emphasize the power of the shoulder line.

This made it possible to bring some revitalization to the exterior of the car. You can also highlight the demonstrative stamping element in the form of a blade at the rear doors, as well as the curve going upward and a visual transition to the rear pillar.

Such moments made it possible to create the appearance of the boundaries of the interior and visually define dynamism and perspective, giving the rear wheel arches a massive look. The rear of the Opel Astra (J) is recognizable only by the lights, which have a consistent style in the shape of a double wing.

Salon

Turning your attention to the interior of the “German”, you can notice all the main advantages and disadvantages that are common to all cars of this brand. German specialists worked it out well. There is no mixture of different stylistic solutions, no clutter, an abundance of combinations of materials, leather-like textures, various mismatched inserts - everything is done in a neat and coherent style.

As for the dashboard, it looks quite simple, but at the same time stylish. Expressiveness is enhanced by aluminum-look inserts on the steering wheel, doors and center console. But there are complaints about the quality of execution of some elements.

For example, the trim of the doors and dashboard received inserts made of oak plastic, which is a little rough. The glove compartment lid does not close tightly, producing a slight play. Fabric upholstery in some places may already lose its “marketable” appearance even before sale. The center console has an on-board computer screen, a music control unit and 2-zone climate control.

What was a little surprising was the introduction there of keys for turning on/off stabilization systems, a heated steering wheel function, turning on and off parking sensors, and even a button for turning on the sports mode. I'm pleased with the build quality. For example, the door closes quietly and softly, which is not typical for this class of car.

If early models had poor sound insulation, then the 4th generation has already gotten rid of this problem. The company decided to invest considerable funds to purchase improved sound insulation, which is easy to notice if you look at the doors and seals in the doorways. Among other things, I would like to highlight unusual “climate” deflectors that can dissipate air flows as much as possible.

The Opel Astra Jay sports seats serve as an excellent example of how you need to worry about the level of comfort of the people sitting in the car.

There are a lot of buttons, so you will have to figure out what and how, as well as get used to them. Under them there are compartments for storing the phone with a cigarette lighter socket and support for a USB connector and AUX input. The automatic selector was placed next to it, which borders on the parking brake on/off button.

Thanks to the installation of an electronic handbrake, it was possible to free up space for a compartment used as a cup holder. There is an armrest. Generally speaking, the German specialists have “stuffed” the car with enough pleasant elements. I especially wanted to say about the illumination of the interior decoration.

The door handles, together with the gearbox selector, received a red backlight, and if you activate the sport mode, the entire “tidy” changes its color. It all looks really cool, especially in the dark - the hatchback becomes cozy, romantic and at the same time aggressive.

To say that there is a lot of free space in a hatchback is not true, despite the thinner backrest front seat and increasing the passenger space in width. The second row of seats received enough free space, which provides an opportunity to feel more comfortable, but nothing more.

Pillow rear seat placed too low, causing real discomfort. The luggage compartment of the Opel Astra (J) received 370 liters of usable space, but if necessary, the rear seat backs can be folded, which will provide 1,235 liters.

The trunk is very functional and practical. It has hooks for securing cargo, lighting, a removable shelf, a storage compartment with tools under a dense raised floor, as well as comfortable handles and more. What the Germans did not take into account was the large loading height.

Specifications

The fourth generation has engines with power from 95 to 180 horsepower. Five motors from this list are supplied to the Russian market. The gasoline line is represented by a 1.4-liter 100-horsepower and a 1.6-liter 115-horsepower engine. In the city, fuel consumption ranges from 8.3-8.7, and on the highway from 5.1-5.3 liters per hundred.

The first hundred kilometers is achieved by the most weak motor in 11.9 seconds. These power units have turbocharged versions from 140 to 180 horsepower. The 140-horsepower version does not require much gasoline, compared to the “younger” versions: in the city from 8.0-9.1, outside the city from 5.2-5.4 liters per 100 km.

Opel Astra J engine

The most powerful option in the city “eats” about 9.9 liters of gasoline, and on the highway 5.6. It can reach 100 km/h in just 9 seconds. A 2.0-liter turbocharged engine is available diesel engine, producing 160 “mares”. Such installations work together with 5- and 6-speed manual transmissions, as well as with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The chassis, which operates using a mechatronic system, was installed for the first time in the Opel Astra (J). At the front there is a standard suspension with McPherson struts, and at the rear there is a semi-independent beam combined with a Watt device. With this suspension it is possible to provide solid agility and stability during turns, while maintaining comfort.

The designers equipped the “German” with the FlexRide adaptive suspension (installed optionally), which has 3 operating modes: Standart, Sport, and Tour (comfort). Such electronics allow you to change the settings of the suspension, power steering and the sensitivity of the gas pedal.

Safety

Since the car is positioned as a family car, the level of safety must be appropriate. Looking ahead, I would like to say that the Opel engineering team was able to take care of this. Provides for the presence of 4 airbags, curtain airbags (optional), child Isofix fastenings, ABS, EBD, ESP, HHC.

Based on the crash tests passed by Euro-NCAP, the model deservedly received its 5 stars for safety.

Price and options There are 3 fixed configurations available for our customers: Essentia, Enjoy and Cosmo. The basic version in 2012 was priced at 599,900 rubles.

Fifth generation Astra K (2017-present)

The world display of the latest, fifth, family of Opel Astra 2016-2017 took place only in the fall of 2015 in the German city of Frankfurt. The new product will be produced at factories in England and Poland. The vehicle was able to maintain the ratios of the previous generation, however, it became brighter, lighter and much more technologically advanced in all respects.

Exterior

The appearance of the Opel Astra 5 has many stylistic features that are similar to the conceptual version of the Monza and the “younger” Corsa of the latter family. If previously there was a conservative look, now there are bright and bold design lines, along with sharp edges.

The nose of the five-door Opel Astra (K) hatchback has stylish lighting technology (IntelliLUX LED matrix headlights can be installed as a separate option) and a sculpted bumper with pronounced aerodynamic shapes.

Interestingly, the optional installation of LED headlights involves the placement of 8 LED elements in each headlight, which work together with the Opel Eye camera located in the nose area. Continuing the theme of matrix headlights, using an electronic unit they are able to analyze data from the camera and adjust the length and saturation of the light beam depending on the position on the road and the presence of other cars on the roadway.

The Opel Astra (K) 2017 fog lights have new technologies and are distinguished by their ability to penetrate heavy fog, which significantly increases safety while driving.

The exterior of the “German”, which represents the interests of Opel in the very competitive niche of the C-class, exudes dynamism and pressure, multiplied by modern technology automotive production. From any angle, the hatchback looks like a modern and playful car.

The body is in complete harmony with sharp ribs and stampings, bright aerodynamic fairings and stylish lighting equipment, as well as refined lines and curves. The front end has an elongated hood and a voluminous radiator grille with chrome inserts.

The aerodynamic front bumper placed fog lights non-standard rectangular type. The dynamic appearance is manifested by expressive ribs on the sides, an actively sloping roof and blackened rear pillars, creating the effect of a “floating roof”.

The doors installed at the back with an ascending window sill line that tends to rise upward are very impressive. Adding charm to the already mentioned elements are external mirrors mounted on strong legs, an attractive rib placed at the level of the door handles, correct radii wheel arches, neat design of the aft part, which is decorated with modern pointed lampshades, which also received LED filling.

Along the upper edge of the glass, you can see a chrome trim. The Germans decided to install 17-inch alloy wheels with a modified design. The rear of the Opel Astra (K) 2016 is the subject of many disputes and disagreements, since some are satisfied with it and even impressed by it, while others are not.

On the line that connects back with a roof, there are narrow LED optics. The upper part of the body has a small spoiler. The rear bumper turned out to be of good quality, thanks to the smooth stamping lines. The luggage compartment lid is compact.

Interior

The interior decoration of the 2016 Opel Astra (K) has no less grandiose transformations than the exterior - almost everything is new here, from the design to the finishing materials. The driver is immediately presented with a “tight” steering wheel with a three-spoke design, as well as a scattering of control elements.

Behind it you can see the analogue instrument panel, where there is a large multi-function display located between the speedometer and tachometer. The steering column is adjustable in height and reach. In the central part of the hatchback interior there is an IntelliLink multimedia complex with an 8-inch touch screen (supports Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto).

He was able to incorporate an abundance of physical keys and switches, which made it possible to rid the dashboard of unnecessary workload. The climate inside the “German” car is regulated using a separate unit that has a pair of massive “handles” and keys.
It is worth admitting that the standard equipment is a little simpler - there is a regular radio, air conditioning and a simplified steering wheel.

According to the German automaker, the new product has high-quality finishing materials that correspond to more prestigious cars. So that the driver and front passenger can sit comfortably inside, high-quality anatomical seats with a pronounced profile are provided.

Depending on the selected equipment, the seats can have up to 18 settings, ventilation, heating and massage functions. The Opel Astra (K) salon demonstrates new door cards with comfortable armrests and compact handles. The plastic on the dashboard is soft and pleasant to the touch, the plastic does not creak, and the gaps fit perfectly.

For rear passengers, the designers have increased the free space (by 35 millimeters), and as a separate option, you can install the function of heating the rear sofa. However, all the same, sitting with three of us will no longer be so comfortable. There is no central armrest and there are no air deflectors, but a USB port can be installed as a separate option.

The luggage compartment turned out to be ideal in shape, and its volume was 370 liters. If necessary, you can fold the rear backrests flush with the floor, which will provide 1,210 liters of usable space. The “spare spare” was placed in a compartment under the floor. It is small in size and installed in the center. Electric drive also not provided.

Technical characteristics of Astra K

Power unit

For the fifth family of the German hatchback, they provided for the presence of Ecotec diesel and gasoline engines with a capacity of 95 to 200 horsepower. The list begins with a 3-cylinder petrol version with a volume of 1.0 liters, which has turbocharging and direct injection.

It develops 105 “horses” at 5,500 rpm and 170 Nm of peak thrust in the range from 1,800–4,250 rpm. The power unit consumes about 4.3-4.4 liters per 100 kilometers in the combined cycle.

Next comes a naturally aspirated four-cylinder 1.4-liter engine, developing 100 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm of thrust starting at 4,400 rpm. The “appetite” of this option is about 5.4 liters for every 100 kilometers in highway/city mode.

Third on the list is the performance version, which is a full-aluminum 4-cylinder turbocharged engine with a volume of 1.4 liters, which received direct fuel supply. This “engine” has several levels of boost. In the “junior” version, it develops 125 “horses” at 5,600 rpm and 230 Nm of torque at 2,000–4,000 rpm.

The “senior” version received 150 “hooves” and 230 Nm with a similar number of revolutions. This “engine” consumes 5.1–5.5 liters in medium mode. The 5th generation Astra also has a four-cylinder turbocharged 1.6-liter diesel engine in 3 boost versions - 95, 110 and 136 hp. (280, 300 and 320 Nm respectively). Such an engine consumes from 3.5 to 4.6 liters diesel fuel, which is a rather modest figure.

In addition, for the German hatchback they decided to introduce improved engines that run on both gasoline and diesel fuel. The volume will be 1.6 liters, and such power units will produce up to 200 “horses”.

Transmission

A car with a 1.0-liter engine is synchronized with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed robotic gearbox. This merger promises the hatchback to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 11.2–12.7 seconds, and the top speed will be at 200 kilometers per hour. And for the 1.4-liter naturally aspirated unit, they provided only one mechanical 5-speed gearbox, which accelerates the car to the first hundred in 12.3 seconds, and the “maximum speed” is 185 kilometers per hour.

Turbocharged aluminum engines work with two boxes. For the “junior” they provided a 6-speed manual, and for the “senior” there was also a 6-speed automatic transmission. You can accelerate to 100 km/h in 8.3–9.5 seconds, and the top speed will be 205–215 kilometers per hour.

For the diesel version, a 6-speed manual and an automatic transmission are installed as a pair. The first hundred is achieved in 9.6–12.7 seconds, and the maximum speed is 185–205 km/h. All engines transmit all torque only to the front wheels.

Chassis

The new five-door version of the German car of the 5th family was built on a completely new modular platform D2XX, which underlies the newest generation Chevrolet Cruze. The new modular “trolley” made it possible to reduce the weight of the load-bearing body of the vehicle by 20 percent, and the weight of the chassis by 50 kilograms, when compared with previous generation models.

As a result, the curb weight of the 2016-2017 Opel Astra (K) was 120-200 kilograms less than the Astra (J) version. The exact weight depends on the selected configuration and level of equipment. As on all current models, there is an independent McPherson-type suspension in front, and a transverse beam in the rear, where there are shock absorbers, springs and an anti-roll bar.

The steering has electric amplifier. The braking system received disc brakes on all wheels (the front ones support the ventilation function), as well as modern electronic “assistants”.

Safety Astra K

Opel specialists developed the security system independently. There are 9 systems and all of them fully meet modern criteria. The systems function a little differently when compared to previous versions. For example, the electronics that monitor blind spots are based not on cameras, but on radar sensors.

Available active system who knows how to follow the markings on the road. In the event that the vehicle leaves the lane, the system will begin to steer, returning the car to its place. Based on practice, the electronics function reliably. Opel Astra (K) is capable of independently avoiding collisions. The car is able to recognize a dangerous approach, and at speeds up to 40 km/h it can independently brake without the participation of the owner.

When the hatchback is moving increased speed, a sound signal is emitted, to which the driver must respond. If this does not happen, the electronics begin to slow down at the last moment. As a result, even if you cannot avoid the collision, the harm will be minimal due to the fact that the force of the impact will not be the same due to the reduced speed.

The operation of systems that monitor markings on the road, recognize obstacles on the move, recognize road signs, as well as LED headlights, operate based on data from a camera installed in the upper part of the front glass.

TO passive safety This includes the use of high-strength steel, a rigid safety cage, elements with programmed deformation, crushable elements and parts with predetermined trajectories of collision force propagation. There are also seat belt pretensioners for front-mounted seats, curtain airbags and airbags.

The Pedal Release Service (PRS) automatically releases the pedal mounts to help prevent injury to the driver's feet and legs in the event of a serious accident. During EuroNCAP tests, the fifth generation received a well-deserved 5 stars for ensuring the safety of not only the driver and passengers sitting next to them, but also other road users. We are pleased with the presence of automated parking and a blind spot monitoring system.

Price and configuration of Astra K

Unfortunately, the new German-made product will not reach the Russian market, since the company has officially decided to leave domestic market. But our neighbors in Ukraine will sell models. There are two trim levels: Essentia and Enjoy . In Europe, the 5th generation Opel Astra (K) hatchback can be purchased from 17,260 to 21,860 euros.

The basic equipment included fabric interior trim, two electric windows, a CD player with six speakers, power steering, ABS, ESP, front and side airbags, cruise control, air conditioning and a folding rear sofa backrest.

“Top” options already have front and rear cameras, electrically adjustable front seats, LED headlights and rear lights, front and rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, 17-inch alloy wheels, leather steering wheel and the gear knob, front armrest and so on.

Comparison with competitors

The golf class is a fairly densely populated segment, so the Opel Astra has plenty of rivals. This includes the one that has overtaken in sales, as well as the Chevrolet Cruze, the founder of the class, the Hyundai i30, KIA Cee’d, Honda Civic, and other vehicles.

08.03.2017

Opel AstraH– third generation of compact class passenger car Opel Astra. Astra has always been a popular model, but this generation especially pleased dealers with sales volumes. Recently, the number of used Opel Astra Hs has increased sharply; this can, of course, be associated with the natural renewal of cars, since most car enthusiasts do this once every 4-5 years. But it may also be that owners begin to get rid of their cars after a mileage of 100-150 thousand km. Well, what is the real reason, and what shortcomings are characteristic of this car, now we’ll try to figure it out.

A little history:

The debut of the Opel Astra H took place in 2003 at the Frankfurt auto show, and already in March 2004 it began serial assembly car. In the markets of different countries it was also produced under the names Chevrolet Astra, Chevrolet Vectra, Holden Astra, Saturn Astra and Vauxhall Astra. The novelty was intended to replace the then popular Opel VectraB. In total, for storming the segment " C"or, as they also say, golf class, four bodies were produced based on the Delta platform developed General Motors– three and five-door hatchback, sedan, station wagon and coupe.

For most CIS markets, the car was assembled at Russian plant"Avtotor" in Kaliningrad, and since 2008 - at the General Motors car assembly plant in Shushary near St. Petersburg. The design of the car was developed by the director of the German Opel design studio in Rüsselsheim - Friedhel Engler, who is also the creator of the Opel Corsa. Production of the model ceased in 2009, this model was replaced by the Opel Astra J, but even after the release of the new model, the popularity of the Opel Astra H did not decrease at all, therefore, it was decided to extend the production of this model (the car was produced until 2014 under the name Astra Family).

Typical problems and malfunctions of a used Opel Astra H

Unlike most competitors, the Opel Astra H has a fairly high-quality paintwork. The exception was cars produced in Poland; on such examples the paint swelled and fell off in pieces; fortunately, the manufacturer eliminated all defects under warranty. The body is completely galvanized, thanks to this it resists the onslaught of the red disease well, but, nevertheless, over time, from the effects of the reagents that are generously sprinkled on our roads, you can find pockets of corrosion on the trunk door, door edges and sills. On cars of the first years of production, the headlights become cloudy, and the rear door handles may also become stuck.

Engines

A large number of power units were available for the Opel Astra H: petrol - 1.4 (90 hp), 1.6 (105 hp), 1.8 (125 hp) and 2.0 (170, 200 hp); diesel – 1.3 (90 hp), 1.7 (100 hp), 1.9 (120 and 150 hp). All engines are quite reliable, but after 100,000 km they require minor investment. The 1.4 engine has proven itself to be the most trouble-free, but due to insufficient power, this power unit is not in demand among car enthusiasts. In the more common 1.6 and 1.8 engines, under our operating conditions, the catalyst and valve become dirty very quickly EGR. The problem is especially relevant for cars operated in a metropolis. One of the most serious breakdowns that many Astra owners have had to deal with is jammed intake and exhaust camshaft gears. This problem occurs at 60-80 thousand km, and after repair there is no guarantee that it will not happen again. Signs of a problem include: increased noise when starting the engine ( rattle, rattle) and worsening dynamics.

Also, the main disadvantages include the small resource of the rear engine mount ( falls into disrepair every 60-70 thousand km). Often, owners are faced with a malfunction of the ignition system module; the cause of the disease lies in poor contact in the connectors and untimely replacement of spark plugs. Closer to 250,000 km, the membrane responsible for recirculating crankcase gases, located in the valve cover, ruptures. The problem can be identified by unstable engine operation, as well as bluish smoke from the exhaust system. Very often at services the engine is sentenced to overhaul, however, the problem is solved by replacing the valve cover. The most powerful power unit, in most cases, does not require repairs up to 150,000 km, but minor troubles such as fogging of the cylinder head and oil leaks through the crankshaft oil seal , can occur after 20,000 km.

All motors are belt driven timing belt According to the regulations, belt replacement is prescribed once every 90,000 km, but there have been cases of belt breakage after 50,000 km, therefore, it is better not to risk it and change the belt once every 60,000 km. The pump is usually replaced every second belt change. Diesel engines are reliable, but demanding on fuel quality and lubricants. Among the disadvantages of diesel engines, it is necessary to note the weak fuel equipment and short service life particulate filter (replacement every 50-60 thousand km). If the filter is clogged, traction is lost, and smoke comes out of the exhaust system, like from an old KAMAZ. Also, due to design flaws, the engine control unit suffers ( exposed to moisture and dirt). One of the most expensive problems that owners of diesel cars face is the failure of the dual-mass flywheel ( resource 100-150 thousand km). Signals about the presence of a problem will be knocking and vibrations when changing gears; it is worth noting that the gears are engaged clearly.

Transmission

Buyers of the Opel Astra H were offered three types of gearboxes to choose from - manual, automatic and robot " Easytronic" Mechanics are considered the most problem-free; even a clutch kit lasts 100-120 thousand km. The only thing I can blame Manual transmission, so only for the lack of synchronizers, because of this, reverse gear is not always engaged correctly. Among the shortcomings that owners of manual cars face are a leak in the rear crankshaft oil seal and a short service life of the secondary shaft bearing (60-80 thousand km). On some copies, after 70,000 km, cracks appear along the seam of the box. If you feel a shock when switching from first to third gear, it is better to contact a service center, but in most cases, changing the oil is enough to eliminate the problem.

Automatic transmissions are famous for jerking and jerking during gear changes, but you shouldn’t be afraid of this, since this is not a breakdown, but a feature of the transmission. The most common automatic transmission problem is a leak of coolant into the hydraulic circuit of the box, after which the unit completely fails. If the auto neutral fails, cleaning the jet in the box will most likely help. When going to emergency mode The transmission only works in fourth gear. The robotic transmission is very capricious and requires attention every 15,000 km ( Maintenance and clutch adjustment).

During operation, the driven disk is erased, and the point of contact with the basket shifts, but the controller responsible for supplying fuel does not know about the shift in the point of contact and supplies the wrong amount of fuel. As a result, this leads to incorrect operation of the box and premature wear of the clutch. It is worth noting that even with timely service robotic transmission, its resource is in rare cases exceeds 150,000 km. Before buying a car with a robot, be sure to drive it; if there are strong jerks when switching, it is better not to buy such a car.

Features and disadvantages of the used Opel Astra H chassis

Simplicity is the key to reliability; it was on this principle that the suspension of the Opel Astra H was developed; a semi-independent torsion beam was installed at the rear, and a semi-independent torsion beam at the front. McPherson. If we talk about driving characteristics, the suspension copes well with the realities of our roads, but is characterized by increased noise. If you do not take into account the stabilizer struts and bushings (resource 20-40 thousand km), the weakest point of the chassis is considered to be the support bearings and steering rods; their resource, in most cases, does not exceed 60,000 km. Wheel bearings ( sensorABS becomes unusable after 50,000 km) and ball joints under average loads last 50-70 thousand km. The remaining suspension elements last 100,000 km or more.

The weakest point in the steering mechanism is the steering rack; as a rule, it begins to knock after 100,000 km; a fluid leak may also appear; this, over time, can lead to destruction of the unit, but if the problem is noticed and corrected in time, complications can be caused to avoid. There are no complaints about the reliability of the braking system; the only thing the owners complain about is the short service life of the front pads (30,000 km).

Salon

The interior of the Opel Astra is made in a simple style, but at the same time, the manufacturer used fairly high-quality materials, but despite this, almost every car has crickets in the interior. The car cannot boast of the reliability of the interior electrical equipment. The main problem in electronics is the incorrect operation of the buttons on the steering wheel and steering column control levers, the reason is a faulty steering column SIM module. There are also complaints about the control system climate system, or, more precisely, to the air recirculation damper. The problem manifests itself as a characteristic cracking noise from under the console.

Result:

In terms of reliability Opel AstraH Not much different from its competitors, but due to the low cost of maintenance and repairs, this car is one of the most interesting representatives of the golf class on the secondary market.

Advantages:

  • Large selection of body types.
  • Good quality interior trim.
  • Economical engines.

Flaws:

  • Stiff suspension.
  • Poor visibility.
  • Small resource robotic box transmission
