Well, time has passed, after which it is definitely possible to give a more objective assessment of the Mercedes ML -350 with the OFF -ROAD package. I have covered almost 50,000 km on it. Learned more about the pros and cons. Therefore, I decided to add to my review, in the hope that this will help someone make their choice easier.

First of all, I want to partially refute what I wrote in the first part, in particular about the versatility of cars. Mercedes ML turned out to be really quite universal car. It has both the feel of a passenger car and a fairly serious SUV in this configuration. You realize this when diving into any snowdrifts of this snowy winter.

I managed to get rid of the fear of using the treasured button for raising the suspension in order to increase ground clearance. Super of course, what can I say! There are no words, only emotions. You forget about expensive repairs and increase alternately in three steps (+ 90 mm - at the ride height "offroad-3", + 60 mm - at the ride height "offroad-2", + 30 mm - at the ride height "offroad-1"), ground clearance up to a maximum of 29 centimeters. True, at the last altitude you can only move up to 30 km/h.

Regarding the G-tronic automatic transmission, I would like to note the following. Having understood the operating algorithm, I realized that the mechanical mode in this box is not for me. I almost never use steering wheel paddle shifters. With the exception of their minor function - limiting the number of gears. Since G-tronic always strives for 7th gear, the engine spins in the range of 2 thousand revolutions, hence the fuel economy. That is, it is very convenient, by limiting switching, to make, for example, in the city, a 5-speed gearbox instead of a 7-speed one. The car becomes more lively and responsive. You can limit it to four or three, depending on operating conditions. For example, Sochi serpentine, where engine braking is important. This is achieved precisely by this limitation of gear shifts. Great idea, of course.

By fuel consumption. Since the car is conducive to a measured, quiet ride, my average fuel consumption is the same: in the urban cycle, the car travels 500-550 km from gas station to gas station and receives up to a full 80-82 liters. It turns out 15 liters per hundred. The route covered 700 km on average, without racing. It turns out 11.7. By the way, the computer writes this way. Almost never lies. The computer has a different problem - the car sits with a warm engine, and it gets warmer outside; in the middle of January it can show +10 degrees Celsius. I went and after some time everything was back to normal, -10 degrees below zero.

According to the AIRMATIC package. I also actively use it in everyday life. Add sharp control, composure of the suspension, select the SPORT position. On bad roads- you definitely plunge into COMFORT. If you're not in a hurry, the AUTO position will solve everything on its own.

Around the cabin. I’ll say right away that the bright interior is too dirty. It’s unlikely that I bought it with a bright interior on purpose. It’s great when the chairs are light and the floor is covered with black carpet. I saw this in the X5, Individual package. There is not enough memory for the seats, especially after washing, when the washers move the seats. Standard music doesn't sound very good, obviously not for music lovers, I think the advanced HARMAN KARDON sounds better. I haven't installed the changer yet, so the MP-3 is also missing. Minus of course. I purchased a navigation disk, everything works in English. I rarely use it, since the routes through life are mostly predictable. Now, if traffic jams were loaded there, there would be no price for it.

Engine compartment. It is inconvenient to pour liquid into the washer reservoir, since the neck is narrowed, apparently so that some stone does not fall through))) Capacity is 8 liters - neither here nor there. Eggplants with anti-freeze capacity of 5 liters are mostly sold. But I didn’t immediately notice that liquid was being supplied to the glass from three points. Two classic ones, one in the middle under the hood. The entire glass is doused with double streams. Well, headlight washers take their toll. But overspending doesn’t bother me, since the windshield doesn’t get very dirty. The liquid lasts a long time.

Let me emphasize right away that controllability of this car on the highest level. In this sense, he not only did not disappoint, but on the contrary, earned a solid A. Impeccable maneuverability, responsiveness of the brakes, and the smoothness with which it passes over bumps and imperfections on our roads deserve respect for the suspension designers of this model. Confident acceleration from traffic lights in any weather without any drifts or slips. All this gives unlimited confidence when managing it. The only thing we must not forget is that ML is still a bit heavy. Therefore, it is important to maintain sufficient distance at high speeds on slippery roads. Just in case. The brakes, although responsive, are primarily tuned for comfort. That is, it slows down smoothly in the first second, so much so that sometimes it seems late. In fact, it's always on time. Impressions are deceiving.

Of the minuses. When you drive fast without music in silence, you can hear the sounds of drafts or something. I saw the same American one being sold in a car dealership, so all the cracks between the doors and the body were additionally taped rubber seals. I think it's due to this. The seat belts do not return well to their place after the front passenger exits. It looks like the mechanism inside needs to be lubricated.

FOR BREAKDOWNS AND REPAIRS. Replaced all the rollers for the alternator belt and pump. The belt itself and its hydraulic tensioner. Apparently their time has come. I was surprised that the thermostat refused to work correctly. Working temperature engine temperature became 70 instead of 92-94 degrees. As a result, the frost in the cabin became chilly. Also a replacement. For now it's just oil and filters. Everything seems to be broken.

Finally I would like to add that I am generally pleased with the car and have no plans to change it yet. For lovers of drive I certainly wouldn't recommend it. The drive here is Mercedes-like, imposing. Comfort is at a level sufficient for an SUV, and cross-country ability too. Although there is always better than the best. That is why I increasingly catch my eye on G.L. e. Although it is huge in size, it has something of its own, different from M.L. A. More courageous, brutal, or something. But that is another story…

Additional aggressiveness and sportiness are given by air intakes located at the base of the hood. A successful solution was enhanced underbody and engine protection, which gives the new Mercedes-Benz ML 350 even more off-road properties.

From the side, this SUV looks quite long. You may even get the impression that this is not an SUV, but an ordinary SUV. But here appearances are deceiving. As for the dimensions, the new Mercedes-Benz ML 350 measures 478 cm in length, 191 cm in width and 180 cm in height. In general, from the side it looks stylish, but quite typical for the ML class. The A-pillars are inclined, the roof slopes slightly towards the rear, where a small spoiler fits harmoniously.

At the back, as well as at the front, one can note the presence of a decorative protective insert made of stainless steel and LED parking lights Red. The taillights have a simple and elegant design, and are clearly visible at night. They contain fog lights and lights reverse. The interior lighting can be changed in brightness and color, which adds comfort to this car. It also impresses with its huge range of functions and playback of various audio and video formats. Very a good decision is the installation of a 17.8 cm diagonal color multimedia display, which allows you to receive information from the player, as well as view videos and photos. But the basic equipment received a monochrome display of 11.4 cm, which is not at all suitable for a car of this class. The sound quality is very high. There are huge settings options, an equalizer and other bells and whistles.

The controls remained almost the same as in all other Mercedes. Unless the multifunctional lever, which is responsible for the lights and turn signals, has swapped places with the cruise control lever. However, the driver gets used to these small changes very quickly.

The front seats are very comfortable, the headrests have wide range adjustments, and your back does not get tired even on long trips. It is also necessary to pay attention to the spacious trunk, which can be expanded by folding the rear seats. In the standard version, the trunk size is 551 liters, and after transformation it is almost four times larger - 2050 liters.

Thus, the following can be said about the interior of the Mercedes-Benz ML 350: it is very spacious, looks rich due to the leather and wood trim, multimedia capabilities and a large color display are impressive, but the black and white central panel does not fit into a car of this class. However, this small drawback well compensated by the level of comfort provided by the German manufacturer.

Suspension

An SUV involves driving not only on city roads and highways, but also on rough country roads and even forest roads. In general, the suspension of the new Mercedes SUV can be called good. It provides high cornering stability in sport mode, high comfort and softness during normal driving, and the ability to manually adjust the ground clearance allows you to get out of the most difficult places.

For checking driving characteristics hit the Mercedes-Benz ML 350, equipped with a six-cylinder V-shaped petrol engine with a volume of 3.5 liters and 7G-Tronic.
