Changing the oil in the Renault Duster razdatka

Axle oil change

What and how much oil to fill in the bridge and the Duster 4x4 razdatka

According to the manufacturer, the oil in the transfer case and axle cannot be changed and is filled for the entire service life of the vehicle.

But underfilling the oil in the distributor and the axle is quite a frequent occurrence on Renault Duster.
In this case, only 2 cm was missing to the level, it is not scary, but to calm it down I had to change it.

Since it is not clear what kind of oil was filled, I had to play it safe and buy a new gear oil Total Syn Fe 75W-90, Renault recommended oil, solidifies at temperatures below 50 degrees.

To change the oil in the transfer case and the Renault Duster bridge, there will be enough 1 liter.
In this report, it took 1 liter and 50-100 grams, this is when filling to the maximum, to the level of the drain holes and taking into account the complete draining and flushing of the rear gearbox and distributor.

  • We start with the rear gearbox
  • You do not have to lift the car, if you lie on the ground, then there is enough space.
  • Unscrew the drain plug (bottom) with a hexagon
  • Drain the oil, the oil will be black enough, this is normal.
  • We twist the plug back, do not forget about the gasket

The oil will not drain, so you can use the vacuum hose to drain the oil completely.

The hose is exactly vacuum, because the walls are not compressed. We insert one end of the hose into the filler hole of the gearbox, resting the hose against the bottom, the other end of the hose to the vacuum pump (or create a vacuum with our lungs), the hose is taken long so that oil does not get into the pump or swallow it.

You can also flush the gearbox and drain completely the flushing fluid in this way. The oil drains out of the distributor well, you do not need to rinse it.

It is convenient to pour oil into the rear gearbox with the help of such a device.

We push the hose and pour new oil into the filler hole (top), the oil must be poured to the very edge of the hole.

We twist the upper plug on the gearbox and wipe the traces of oil with a rag after replacing

Moving on to the transfer case

We remove the right front wheel (passenger side), you can simply turn it out if it is convenient.

The transfer box is located on the passenger side, right behind the wheel. See the photo below.

We find the filler hole, it is also the control one.

Transfer case oil level is normal.

To access the drain plug, you will have to partially remove the protection by unscrewing the six mounting bolts so that the protection hangs only on the front ones. The drain plug of the transfer case is indicated by an arrow.

The oil drains out of the distributor well, you do not need to rinse it.

We drain the oil, tighten the drain plug. Putting the protection together in the reverse order.

Oil was poured everywhere exactly along the edge of the filler hole (it even poured out a little).

The control and filler hole of the box is located in the same way as the dispensing port, but on the left side.

In the box, the oil did not change, only the level was checked - almost flush with the edge.

When may a transmission oil change be required?

If it is necessary to carry out certain work on the machine, for example, to replace the drive oil seal, then the oil will need to be drained from the box. Also, with long-term operation of the car in difficult conditions or with high mileage, it will also be necessary to replace the transmission fluid.

Although the regulations say that the oil is infinite, but this is how it looks on a run of 45,000 km

The car can be equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission and a 5- or 6-speed manual. Consider the process of changing the oil on the version with manual transmission.

What kind of oil to fill?

For your information!... The volume is 0.55 and 0.38 liters, respectively.

Level check

If, during operation, oil leaks appear on the gearbox on the car, then it is imperative to check its level. There is a hole in the front of the box crankcase, which is designed to check the oil level in the box itself. It is closed with a threaded plug. To check the oil level, you need to drive the car into a hole or raise it, remove the engine protection and unscrew the plug on the gearbox housing. The oil level should be near the bottom of the hole. If it is less than it should be topped up. After completing this procedure, if necessary, replace the O-ring on the plug and tighten it.

There are several signs that the gearbox lubricant needs to be changed. But not all of them allow you to diagnose the need to change the oil in the automatic transmission. According to international standards, the lubricant is changed every 50-60 thousand kilometers along with the filter. And after such a run, car owners turn to the service station, where they are offered to go through the procedure for replacing the lubricating fluid.

At the same time, the services offered are conditionally divided into full and partial replacement. A complete change means the complete removal of used oil, flushing the engine and filling with new one. A simpler process is a partial fluid change. It does not require flushing, the old oil is mixed with the new one, but at the same time the operation of the automatic transmission becomes noticeably smoother. In some cases, it is she who is given preference, since after a complete replacement, problems with the correct operation of the automatic transmission are possible.

The problem can arise from exposure to transmission flush agents. If a car has traveled more than 100 thousand kilometers on one oil, then deposits will form inside it, which, when cleaned, can clog the oil channels. As a result, the box can overheat and fail. Therefore, if there is a need for a maximum change, then it is better to make several partial replacements every 300 kilometers. This will not give such efficiency as a complete oil change in the Renault Duster 4x4 transmission, allowing only up to 75% of the old oil to be removed. In a manual transmission, in contrast to an automatic transmission, a complete oil change is recommended.

The manufacturer gives a guarantee for the entire life of the automatic transmission when replaced in accordance with the regulations - every 50-60 thousand kilometers. In practice, in most cases, this allows you to increase the resource by 150-200%. For work, it is better to contact a specialized service station, which has the necessary equipment.

To change the lubricant in a mechanical box, you will need a lift or a viewing hole and a simple set of tools:

  1. Filling syringe
  2. Capacity for working off
  3. Tetrahedron
  4. Oil 3 liters.

To change the oil in a Renault Duster 4x4 gearbox, you need to follow a few simple steps:

After carrying out the work, it is necessary to check the box after 70-100 kilometers of run. If there are leaks, fix the problem.

The drain plug gasket has the article number 77 03 062 062. The cost of the part is quite low, therefore, when changing the lubricant, it is better to immediately change it to a new one.

Why there is a need to change

The oil for the transmission of Renault Duster 4x4, like any other, is a complex product consisting of a large number of additives that make it possible to achieve frost resistance, good lubricating characteristics, and so on. But at the same time, under the influence of large loads, overheating and wear of parts occurs. This leads to the separation of the lubricant into fractions and precipitation.

Therefore, for any work, such as changing the oil seal or drive, it is better to make a complete replacement. This requires 3 liters of 75W-80 viscosity. Renault Duster transmission uses different types of products for lubrication. 80W-90 must be used for reducer and dispenser.

During the operation of an all-wheel drive car, there comes a moment when a motorist asks the question - "What's wrong with the liquids in the dispenser and the rear gearbox." This question was not spared by dusterovodov either.

According to the statement of the automaker and the maintenance rules, Oil change in the Renault Duster distributor and the rear gearbox is not performed during the entire period of vehicle operation. These rules apply mainly to Europe with its excellent roads. In domestic realities, car owners replace the transmission in the distributor and gearbox on average every 30,000 km. But it all depends on the operating conditions. Some, in especially difficult conditions, change at 20,000-25,000 km.

Replacement schedule

So when to change the oil in the transfer case and Renault rear axle?

  1. When the mileage is reached on one change of a certain mileage. Each motorist will determine their own mileage limit.
  2. If there are traces of smudges on a bridge or a razdatka. In this case, the fluid level may drop to a critical level and will have to be topped up or changed completely.

Oil selection

According to the Renault carmaker, 4x4 Renault Duster oil - ELF TranselfFE 80W-90 should be poured into the transmission. In the gearbox - 0.75 l, in the distributor - 0.25 l. Those. one package of 1 liter should be enough. But if you make a replacement with your own hands, then, preferably, stock up on a large volume. overflows are possible. You can, of course, fill in oil of similar characteristics. In this case, only a full shift is performed.

Reno Duster gearbox oil change

When changing the fluid in the Renault Duster gearbox, the motorist can go in two ways:

  1. Contact a specialized oil change service. There they will carry out all the work on replacing the fluid in the rear axle and in the transfer case. The total replacement time in the service will be about 30 minutes. The price of the issue will be from 500 rubles and up to infinity.
  2. Replace it yourself. This method is for an amateur tinkering in the insides of the car. And if the car enthusiast has the skills and capabilities.

In the first case, everything is clear and understandable. It only takes money and time. In the second case, you will need a set of tools and not crooked hands.

Required tools when carrying out work on your own:

  • Syringe or other filling device;
  • Capacity for working off;
  • Cork hex key;

All operations can be performed without lifting the vehicle. But, preferably, the use of an overpass.

The process of self-changing the oil in the gearbox consists of the following operations.

Drain the oil

The first step is to remove the gearbox protection (if any). Fill and drain holes on the gearbox. Carefully unscrew the filler plug with a hexagon and check the oil level with a dipstick.

Caution: Be careful not to damage the plug gasket. Otherwise, you will have to look for a new one.

If the transmission fluid is within normal limits and there was no full change in the plans, we tighten the plug. This is where the process ends.

For a complete change, you need to unscrew the drain plug, substituting a container for used oil. When the liquid is completely drained, you can clean the gearbox with a vacuum pump. The pump will collect the remaining waste oil.

Flushing

The flushing operation is optional but desirable. It is imperative to flush the gearbox when changing the oil grade. A special flush is sold at a car dealership. The flushing process is identical to the one described above.

Oil filling

After completing the previous operations, close the drain hole. Using a large syringe with a curved tip, pour the required amount of liquid through the fill hole. Various attachments can be used to accomplish this operation. The most popular and affordable is a plastic bottle with a 1-1.5 meter hose.

The transmission fluid is poured up to the edge of the drain hole. Next, the cork is twisted and the resulting smudges are wiped off.

This completes the process of changing the oil in the gearbox.

Changing the oil in the transfer case

The oil change itself in the Renault Duster transfer case is simple and does not require special skills.

Replacement steps:

  1. Partially unscrew the protection (back part);
  2. Remove the front right wheel for full access to the technological holes of the transfer case (you may not need to remove it, but then access will be difficult);
  3. Unscrew the filler and drain plugs;
  4. Drain the transmission through the drain hole.
  5. Screw on the drain plug. It is advisable to change the plug gasket;
  6. Fill the transmission through the filler (inspection) hole;
  7. Screw on the filler plug. It is advisable to change the plug gasket;
  8. Screw on the protection;
  9. Replace the wheel.

Renault Duster is a compact crossover built on the Renault Logan platform with a wheelbase increased by 40 mm. Duster is available with either front or all-wheel drive. The four-wheel drive scheme is borrowed from the Nissan concern, the driver, using a three-position switch, selects one of the operating modes: Auto (automatically connected four-wheel drive), Lock 4x4 (with a locked center clutch) and 4x2 (front-wheel drive to reduce fuel consumption). The car is equipped with modern safety systems: Bosch ABS 8.1 with electronic brake force distribution EBV and emergency braking system EBA. The Duster version with a diesel engine is optionally equipped with an ESP exchange rate stabilization system with understeer control and ASR traction control.

The boot capacity is 475 liters and can be increased to 1600 liters with the rear row of seats folded down. The car has good indicators of geometric cross-country ability, which is ensured by small overhangs and ground clearance: an approach angle of 30 degrees, an exit angle of 35 degrees. Duster's suspension is stiff, but very energy-intensive. Her strokes are sufficient for normal cross-country driving. Obviously, the creators wanted to find a compromise between a car for urban use and a suburban one, and it seems they succeeded.

Tuning Renault Duster (Renault Duster)

For the most part, the Duster is produced in fairly budgetary trim levels, and of course, many owners want to improve and modify this car. You can tune the Duster and improve its appearance: put alloy wheels with an increased diameter, install off-road tires, hang the body kit in a circle. As for the interior, you can also change it for the better: change the instrument panel illumination, cover the interior plastic with vinyl film, install comfortable seats with lateral support. You can also tune the engine to improve its performance, although Duster is not a racing car, it is quite possible to reduce fuel consumption.
