How to tint a rear window. How to install film on the rear convex window of a car? How to form tint

Many people prefer to have dark windows in their car so that the interior is not visible from all sides. Also, a completely untinted car is compared to an aquarium. As we know, the rules prohibit tinting the windshield and front side windows auto. Therefore, law-abiding drivers darken the rear side and rear window. The rear window is more difficult to tint because the glass is irregularly shaped.

What is needed for tinting

In order to tint car windows with your own hands, you will need the following tools:

  1. Spray.
  2. Soapy water solution.
  3. Rubber spatula.
  4. Sponge.
  5. Stationery knife.
  6. Roulette.
  7. Powder.
  8. Skin.
  9. Construction or regular hairdryer.

How to tint a rear window

Before you start gluing the film, you need to thoroughly wash and dry the glass. After that, you need to pour and rub a small amount of powder over the surface of the glass. After cleaning and applying powder, measure with a tape measure dimensions glass and cut the film to these sizes. And after that, do the molding, that is, give the shape of the glass to the tint.

How to form tint:

  • Wet method.
  • Dry method.

Method of wet molding of tint film is that it must be wetted without removing protective film and place it on the outside of the rear window. After applying the film to the outside, it must be smoothed with a rubber spatula (forcing). Use a spatula to smooth it from the center to the edges, while warming the curved areas with a hairdryer. With these simple steps, the tint film will completely take the shape of the rear window.

Dry forming method for tint film consists in the fact that the required piece of film is applied to the rear glass from the outside with the cover facing out, after which it is necessary to cut off the excess film. The folds are also pushed out with a spatula from the center to the edges.

Have you heard of athermal film or glass? Many people don't know? It has a number of advantages compared to conventional automotive glass.

Preparatory work:

  1. When using any method, the next step is to install a spotlight inside the car so that the beam shines on the rear window. We do not remove the film. The spotlight is illuminated in order to cut the film perfectly, without errors.
  2. The prepared piece of the desired shape now needs to be removed and washed on one side of the film that was placed on the glass, and the film and glass should be washed off the powder.
  3. Next, we wet the film with water and level it in different directions from the center to the edges. This action will show how smoothly the film is cut and molded. If there are folds, heat with a hairdryer and remove the air with a spatula. After that, we bring the film into the cabin, inside the car.
  4. Before you start gluing, you need to thoroughly wash and dry the glass so that there is no dust, flies stuck to it, etc.

Have you heard about . Such electronic tinting it is controlled by a button, that is, press the button - the windows darken, press it again - the windows become transparent.

The process of applying film to glass:

  • remove the protective film from the tinting;
  • moisten the sticky side of the tint with a soapy water solution (soap neutralizes the glue for a while);
  • wet the rear window from the inside;
  • attach the film, positioning it correctly;
  • moisten with a spray bottle;
  • expel air and water, leveling the folds (smooth with a rubber spatula from the center horizontally).

With a thin spatula you can drive it under rubber compressor bottom of the film. At the end, you can once again use the usual rubber force to walk from the center to the edges.

As you can see, there is nothing complicated. Take a lot of time preparatory work. You can do the actual tinting on the rear window yourself in a matter of hours.

In this video you can watch the entire tinting process.

Tinting gives the car an expensive look, protecting the interior from sunlight and prying eyes. Every car enthusiast thinks about tinting. VAZ's technology for tinting windows is not so complex that you can't do it yourself. If you have experience in such work, then there is no need to contact the service.

Features of window tinting VAZ 2107

Tinting car side windows is much easier because they have a flat surface. But it’s quite difficult to tint the front or rear window without knowing the intricacies of the process. Special attention requires glass tinting on convex parts. To tint the rear window of a VAZ 2107, you need to prepare:

- cutting tool, maybe a sharp knife;
- soap solution, any shampoo will do;
— spray bottle and hair dryer, manual or construction;
— a spatula-eraser made of rubber or silicone to displace water;
- 3 meters of tint film, it is better to take a metallized, high-quality option.

The tinting procedure takes the following amount of time in stages:

— 1 hour for glass dismantling;
— 4 hours for direct tinting;
— 48 hours to dry;
— 2 hours to install tinted rear window.

Before tinting the glass, it must be thoroughly cleaned of dirt, washed and dried. If the surface of the glass is uneven, it will not be possible to properly adhere the film.

Classic rear window tinting

Before tinting begins, the tinting film is formed. The film is cut to fit right size and begin molding. This procedure will allow you to tint the rear window perfectly. In addition to a sharp knife, a hair dryer and a rubber squeegee, you will need powder. Molding is done from the outside of the glass. The process steps are:

1. Wash thoroughly and evenly sprinkle the glass with powder on the outside and rub it over the entire area, “powdering”.

2. Place the film pattern with the adhesive side up, then with a hairdryer and a soft cloth we begin to shape it. Avoid scratching the film.

3. Place the molded film on the washed and dried inside of the rear window.

4. Having previously peeled off the protective film, spray the adhesive part with a solution from the shampoo using a spray bottle. The excess solution must be allowed to drain. On inner part We also spray the rear window with soapy water.

5. Place the film on the glass, aligning the edges and begin to smooth it with a spatula from the central part to the edges, expelling water and air.

Fitting the film to the size of the VAZ 2107 glass is done by trimming the excess edges with a knife. On the curves of glass, the film is formed more carefully. If it is not possible to form the film by stretching, then this can be done using cuts. Sometimes the film is cut into 2-3 parts and the strips are glued overlapping, one at a time, starting from the top. To hide the seam, I make it along the rear window heating line. After completing the tinting procedure, it is recommended not to turn on the interior heating for 2 days.

These days, more and more car owners are realizing the benefits that tinting their windows brings them. vehicle. At the same time, factory tinting installed on the conveyor allows too much light to pass through, which is not everyone’s cup of tea. Therefore, many come to the conclusion that tinting with your own hands will become a worthy solution Problems.

However, this technology is not as simple as it seems. This is a labor-intensive and responsible procedure that hides a lot of pitfalls.

What's the benefit?

To begin with, a few arguments in favor of window tinting:

  • With them general form The car turns out to be much more beautiful, more prestigious and more expensive.
  • Dark glass is one of the measures passive safety when there is nothing visible inside that could be stolen.
  • A high-quality coating absorbs solar glare and softens the glare from the headlights of oncoming cars.
  • In combination with glue and film, car glass turns into a high-strength element that can withstand impacts of up to 70 J. This is approximately the amount of energy it takes for a person to throw a stone at close range. And even when broken, the window does not shatter into fragments, but remains attached to the film, which can even save lives in the event of an accident.
  • Car tinting reflects almost 99% of ultraviolet rays and 89% of thermal radiation in the summer, which makes the operation of the air conditioner 2-3 times easier, and, consequently, affects fuel consumption. At the same time, it transmits up to 69% of sunlight. In winter, the polymer film retains up to 35% of the heat inside the car.
  • UV absorption preserves interior finish and dashboard from fading.

The main requirement for ground-based vehicles is the level of their light transmission and is established by GOST 5727-88. The windshield, which provides visibility to the driver, must transmit at least 75% of the light. Not wind, but entering the field forward view– at least 70%; The light transmission of other glasses is not regulated.

The concept of “normative forward viewing field P” means the area occupied from the middle of the left driver’s window, all Windshield and to the middle right front glass. That is, in fact, all other glass can be tinted as desired.

About tint films

Despite the oppression by law, the number of people wishing to tint their car is growing every year. Film production technologies do not stand still, offering us more and more heat-saving options.

The cheapest segment is film with dark adhesive. It is short-lived and becomes unusable within a year. In addition, when exposed to sunlight, it delaminates and is very difficult to remove: you have to scrape it off piece by piece.

Painted film is a slightly better option. It does not fade so quickly and is scratch resistant.

The premium product is neutral films, in the production of which no dyes are used, and the darkening effect is achieved by sputtering nickel, aluminum, chromium, and silver. These films have a lifetime warranty.

Today, the leader in the production of car film is the American company American Standard Window Film (ASWF). The company is struggling to achieve best results for reasonable money.

The adhesive side of the coating is an acrylic adhesive composition. There are two types of adhesives. The first react to pressure and strong pressing against the glass, that is, it is just soft sticky glue. The latter are activated by water, they have a hard and non-sticky coating, which, when interacting with the activating solution, chemically bonds with the glass.

Tools, materials and their features

Let's start practicing. For work we will need:

  • Scrapers. When tinting a car with your own hands, they are used to clean surfaces. Scrapers are produced in various configurations; they are disposable and reusable (then they come with replaceable inserts). We will need a scraper for removing water and an eraser for washing glass (about 12cm).
  • Knife and blade for cleaning car windows. The knife is used for cutting film and consists of a removable blade and body. All blades are made of special soft steel so as not to scratch the glass.
  • Forcing. These are tools for smoothing film and removing water. Forgings can be rectangular, triangular, shaped with different angles for hard-to-reach places (chislers), as well as flexible, for curved surfaces. We will need the Armolan rectangular gold forcing to remove the installation solution on the side windows and windows. It is elastic, so even with strong pressure it does not create creases in the film, and does not melt when heated with a hairdryer. You will also need: a slammer - an acute-angled forcing device for pressing the edges of the film, especially in such hard-to-reach places as the rear window; a Teflon chisel, which is also used to press the edges and tuck them under the seal, and also wipe away microparticles trapped under the film; bluemax for removing installation fluid from under the film.
  • Spray guns will be needed to spray soap and installation solutions and water. The sprayer must have a filter to fill it with water directly from the tap, be in good working order and supply fine water dust.
  • Installation solution. This is a liquid that resembles a soap solution, but is not quite it. It is not recommended to use ordinary soapy water for tinting, as it leaves stains on the glass, which then practically do not disappear.
  • Masking tapes and markers. They can be used to correct small flaws around the perimeter of the glued film.
  • Industrial dryer. Allows the film to set faster or become more elastic from heat where it is needed.

Preparing for work

It is optimal to do it yourself to tint car windows without dismantling the glass, but remember that the conditions under which it is carried out have a huge impact on the quality of tinting. You can't expect results when doing it on the street.

We dismantle the door trim. This is a mandatory step, despite the fact that many people ignore it. We remove the trim along with the seal to get to that section of glass that is hidden inside the door.

We place the roll on the stand. The stand is certainly a glass screen, approximately 2 x 2 m in size, for cutting out material. You can purchase it, or you can make it yourself by securing the glass with a frame of slats on chipboard, and attaching roll holders above them. The stand can be positioned vertically or slightly at an angle. Glass is not afraid of a sharp knife blade and wet patterns hold well on such a surface.

There are two ways to cut out a cloth for tinting glass with your own hands.

  • We take the overall dimensions of the windows and put the resulting values on the stand.
  • Cut out a rectangle.
  • We wet the car glass so that the film sticks. Despite the fact that it will be glued from the inside, to cut it out we apply it from the outside.
  • We cut the blank along the curves of the glass. Lower the glass at least 5cm to make it more convenient for you to work.
  • Let's form.
  • We return the pattern to the stand, slightly cut off the sharp corners and from strips of film about 10 cm long we make a couple of “tails” by which we will hold it when it is removed protective layer. Glue them to the front side.

Second, more effective method :

  • For patterns we use patterns, which can be found in abundance and for any car on the Internet.
  • We cut the workpiece along the contour with a small allowance to make it easier to fit it in place.
  • Apply the installation solution to inner side glass, apply the pattern and carefully adjust.
  • Let's form.
  • Don't forget about the "tails".

About Film Forming

An important point for those who do car window tinting themselves: in order for the film to take the shape of the glass, it must be molded. Many people do this right during pasting, and this is a grave mistake. The film must be formed before pasting. This will save you from suffering with it in the future. If the film is not molded, then where the glass takes on a spherical shape, arrows appear, which cannot be removed without damaging the film. Imagine: when gluing, water and air are driven from top to bottom and collect in the arrows that we are trying to form. As a result, the film breaks. Therefore, molding is done in advance, so that all we have to do is expel the water. Glass with a large convex shape is especially required.

Molding Techniques

It is more convenient to do this outside the window. Place the workpiece on the raised glass and apply it with a hairdryer hot air. We smooth it out with a rectangular pressing. Under the influence of temperature, the polymer film heats up and tightly fits the glass, taking its shape. After the procedure, you can see how the protective layer has become a little dented.

Car window tinting technology

When the canvas is prepared, clean the glass. Preparation begins with degreasing, which can be an installation solution.

After this, using a special blade, scrape with short movements from top to bottom to clean inner surface. The blade does not scratch the glass, but removes adhering grains, glue and other foreign inclusions from it. Remember: the film will highlight any light specks of dust and it will immediately be noticeable that the tinting was done poorly. The main thing is to achieve perfectly clean glass. This work is very painstaking, but the result will directly depend on it.

Use a spray bottle with water to wash off all dust and dirt. Help yourself with an eraser for washing glass. We make movements from the right post to the lower left corner. We repeat several times, after which we apply the installation solution. Spray it into sufficient quantity. Its role is to allow the adhesive side of the film to slide over it, allowing us to accurately and correctly place the workpiece in place. If you place the film on water, it will immediately stick incorrectly.

All this time our workpiece is kept on the stand. Carefully remove protective covering and spray the solution onto its sticky surface to ensure even better glide.

After the coating is removed, touching the adhesive surface is strictly prohibited: particles may stick to it, which will then affect the quality.

Holding the pattern by the “tails”, we position it evenly, with a minimum gap along the edge of the glass.

Using light movements from top to bottom and along the perimeter, using an elastic force, we squeeze out the water and air. We look at the edges to see if the film moves.

Using a hairdryer, heat the glass, starting from the top edge. This is necessary so that the film is pressed tightly and does not come off when we lift the glass to work on the lower half. During installation, this place is most susceptible to mechanical stress.

To use one scraper or many different ones to tint car windows with your own hands - everyone chooses for themselves.

We level the top edge again and disperse the air below. For some time, the film will still be a little mobile, and therefore you need to install the skin with extreme caution. If water will get in inside the door - no big deal, it will evaporate or come out through the drainage hole.

We install the seal in place, and then the casing.

The most common mistakes:

  • Too much big gap from the edge to the beginning of the film. It doesn't look very nice and highlights the fact that a tint has been applied to the normal glass. This distance should be minimal, no more than 1-2mm.
  • Poorly cut film at the edges, when an undarkened area is visible from behind the seal. This indicates a violation of technology and is considered an outright defect.
  • The film inside the door is not trimmed. This may not be a problem at first, but over time it will pull up, pulling the rest of the layer with it. If arrows appear on the bottom of the glass, this may be a sign of such detachment.
  • The arrows can also indicate poor quality cleaning of the glass or improper molding of the pattern.

Do-it-yourself car tinting is not an easy task. The entire process is based on accuracy and precision. The more seriously you take the little things, the more you will enjoy the benefits of a tinted car.

Many car enthusiasts tint their iron horse. There are several reasons for this - tuning, protection from the sun and glare from headlights, glare from other cars, increasing the safety of glass in case of their destruction, fencing internal space salon from other people's curiosity and so on. Work to change the light transmittance of glass is carried out without the use of special tools, but the use of a hair dryer is recommended. To get a high-quality result, you need a hair dryer for car tinting.

Why do you need a hairdryer when tinting?

No one denies that this device is not needed for tinting car windows and others that have a flat, non-curved surface. All air bubbles and folds that appear during the film gluing process can be smoothed out and removed using only scrapers or soft cloth. But when car tinting involves working with curved glass, you can’t do without this electrical device - this is what everyone who has done it at least several times says.

When heated, the film becomes more elastic, begins to stretch and ideally fits surfaces of any geometry.

This property is used when forming a car tint coating for rear windows with a strong bend - the film is heated with a hairdryer. Subsequent gluing of the tint of a given configuration using the same device takes place without any difficulties. The surface is smoothed with a spatula, and at the same time the film is heated with an electrical appliance - especially when gluing on bends. Without this device, it will be impossible to make high-quality tinting of car headlights.

Professionals who make money from this service recommend using heating of the film in all cases - this allows you to obtain the highest quality and durable tinting coating. In addition to warming up when smoothing the film, they advise, after completing all operations, to dry the window from the inside with an electrical appliance. The pasted and cut film needs to strengthen its edges by heating.

Which hair dryer is suitable Experienced toners categorically state that the device must be of an industrial design - a construction hair dryer is required. Appliances unsuitable due to low temperature and strong flow - the film will not heat up to the required values. Special car ones are also not suitable: despite the significant power consumption, they are designed for drying and have the same disadvantages as ordinary home devices. Using household appliances – extreme case

for artisanal conditions when the necessary equipment is not available. Almost any construction electrical appliance will cope with the tasks assigned to it. But the ideal option would be a device with several speeds and an electronic thermostat. This will allow you to select the optimal operating mode. Tinting films are of different quality; the working conditions also affect the required temperature of the hot air flow that the device will produce. A required parameters

How to use a hair dryer correctly

If you do happen to work with household device, then there are no restrictions here - the device has low temperature characteristics, unable to damage the film or glass of the car. Using a hair dryer requires care and skill. Electrical appliances are capable of producing temperatures up to 600oC and higher at different air flow rates.

There is no consensus in which mode of the device to carry out the work - everyone has their own personal experience. Specialists and people with some experience in such work agree on the following basic rules:

  • It is not permissible to operate the hair dryer at maximum power.
  • The desired mode of operation of the device is selected experimentally - they try to glue a small piece of tint film.
  • The device is kept at a distance at which the film will not melt and the glass will not burst from overheating.
  • You cannot heat one place for a long time - the consequences can be as indicated above. It is ideal when the electrical device makes non-stop smooth movements in the working area, the place of current molding or smoothing.
