Frankly, a comparison of such cars has a greater extent academic interest, rather than practical meaning. Speaking about such a format, as an expensive SUV of noble origin, it is necessary to take into account not only the "physical" parameters of the car, but its "sincere" qualities. It is difficult to imagine that a person who has thoughtful to sit behind the "Mercedes" steering wheel, can prefer his star of a blue-white propeller machine with a different ideology. Yes, and Engoman is unlikely to boil on the Teutonic technique: in his view, Range can only be even more expensive "Ranj".

But "Audi" and "Volvo" are somewhat mansion. However, Q7 was previously the status thing, while XC90 was only now raised to the level of the rest of the vehicles, considerably in price compared to its predecessor. Well, the more interesting our observations will be.

Audi Q7 3.0 TFSI Quattro


Without a small ten years, there was between the premieres of the two generations Q7 - the term for current standards is almost consecutive. The new "ku" differs from the old straight: if the former car seemed rounded by a rounded miscurrent, then now "Audi" was sharpened in the edges and ... stopped looking like an SUV. But the big crossover is simply obliged to be impressive!

Impressions from the salon are also ambiguous. The first assessment is cool. Interestingly performed climate control handles, on which the temperature and mode of operation are displayed. Great made of black wooden inserts with matte texture and thin stripes.

Fully digital devices are impressive: the graphics are worked perfectly, and the highest functionality. However, the last feature is a stick about two ends: an excess of readings on the display significantly complicates perception. And it was still very surprised by the orientation of the dashboard: it is not addressed to the organ of vision of the driver, but as if tilted down. To this, you get used to it, but the question "why?" Nevertheless remains.

SUV? Rather, a big wagon. Very big! And also - solid, strict, comfortable. Driving this car experience a sense of confidence and invulnerability. Perfect finish, proper handling and powerful acceleration of gasoline V6. Purchase on the back sofa almost more than you need! And the front is all good: comfortable chairs, beautiful and, in principle, understandable interface. What can I find face here? That's just I would prefer a version with a diesel engine, even if the dynamics would even be damaged. Then for me Q7 would definitely be a good option.

When removing the machine on the front panel and the doors, bright white stripes flashed, which are replaced by red after a while. Speected! I didn't like this performance, but not all experts appreciated such beauty, finding her annoyingly intrusive.

However, when it comes to the convenience of managing the multimedia interface, there was no differences: the Germans made a waum. The looped buttons of the touchpad in combination with a round controller and the selection keys of various menu sections are blasting the brain. In addition, the volume adjustment knob is located away from useless touchpad and besides swinging. As a result, adjust the volume to the passenger turns out to be more information than the driver. Mount from the mind!

"Audi" likes a soft suspension: the car is some incomprehensible way even large irregularities, without shaking wheels and without swaying the body. Yes, and the trunk is large, moreover, its volume can be adjusted not only by folding the rear row, but simply moving the individual parts of it back and forth. However, with a cunning on-board system, I could not find a common language, no matter how hard it tried: the journey of the management bodies on the central tunnel plunged me into horror. This is some kind of ergonomic vakhanalia, by God! I didn't like the screen instead of the dashboard: to figure out numerous numbers is not easy, besides, it remains an intractable mystery to me, why it is set with a slope down.

Our copy turned out to be in a strange configuration: with pretty expensive options, such as the Bang & Olufsen audio system, the car was deprived of the memory of the front seats and climate control for the passengers of the sofa. The steering column was generally not electrified - as, however, and on "Volvo". Nevertheless, there are no complaints from the chairs - the adjustment ranges are more than sufficient. Rear seats are also adjustable: individual parts of the sofa can be moved longitudinally and tilt the back in very wide limits. By the stock of space and the convenience of entry / exit "Audi" outside competition.

Of the five cars, only Q7 was equipped with a 333-strong gasoline engine and inflounted only by Ranju. With the dynamics, of course, the crossover is all in perfect order. And the smoothness of the "ku-seventh" has left the smallest impression. More comfortable suspension I do not remember! Small irregularities crossover destroys completely, and large reduces to frivolous sizes. You can pass on the "Legging Police", without reducing the speed at all. Healthy!

But the car handling alert. On the one hand, the "German" demonstrates a magnificent holder in turns - on the other, it does not seek reliable information in the hands of the driver regarding the angle of rotation of the wheels: the light steering wheel does not have sufficient informativeness, and in turn it has to fall almost at random.

As for the passability, the "Audi" in this discipline is not strong, even despite the presence of a pneumatic suspension with the possibility of changing the clearance: a long wheeled base and large swells are not the best kindergarten on off-road.

BMW X5 xDrive 40D


Even at the end of the last century, in Munich, they proved to the whole world that the SUV could have a sports car habits: appearing in 1999, X5 became the most driver crossover (before the appearance of Cayenne was still three years). Yes, and now "X-fifth" everything also provokes to ride "with a high-raised key." Another thing is that, compared with the predecessor E70, the current car of the F15 series has become much more comfortable: excellent smooth course - the main acquisition of X5.

Like "Mercedes", the Bavarian crossover professes the facilities to tradition: from the point of view of the "boomer" in the cabin, everything is located in their places. However, the key difference between Munich traditionalism from Stuttgarts is that from the point of view of a normal person in BMW with ergonomics there are no problems. With each new generation, the "X-fifth" is becoming increasingly rich electronics, but its high density per square meter of the car does not conflict with the convenience of use - except for navigation, which is categorically inconvenient to control the circular controller. Eh, here would be a normal human touchscreen ...

"Ha-Fifth" is a certain history and image. He is like a noble horse that dreams of breaking in a gallop. But what kind of boredom in the cabin? This is a crossover from the premium segment! Where is the deliberate luxury, which generously give up the nearest competitors? It seems to be all with it - "and the skin, and a face." And yet, as if something is not enough - some kind of deliberate gloss, or something ... but the trunk with a separate door is a comfortable thing. If you abstract from the specific image of the "boumen", then in the dry residue there will be a universal, but the devilish quick car, which is well-appropriate for the demands of the adult couple with a couple of young children, which will be cozy for not too spacious rear sofa.

Against the background of the competitors, the "X-fifth" salon may even seem slightly conservative: despite the fact that the multimedia interface is endowed with rather extensive powers, the main functions are still hanged on the usual buttons. Of inconveniences, it is worth noting non-fixed steering switches (determine in what mode wipers are working, only a person with well-developed intuition is capable of the same joystick.


Front armchairs at BMW masterpiece - without exaggeration. In addition to the millions of all sorts of familiar adjustments, the front seats also "break" in half the back: the angle of inclination of its top can be set separately. In general, the chair can be easily adjusted on any, even the most non-standard figure. Bravo!

BMW seemed to me too twitching: he accelerates jumps and slows down - the brake pedal was unnecessary. I did not like the fact that the thresholds are not protected from dirt - in this sense, Audi and Range Rover is preferable. But with the smoothness of the stroke there are no problems. And also surprised the lack of a pneumatic suspension with the adjustment of the clearance: it seems to me that in this class and for this money it should be mandatory equipment.

Bavarians have long supplied their expensive cars with projection displays, and X5 has not exceeded. According to the quality of information feed, it is flawless: a clear color image seems to boil over the road. HUD is also VOLVO, but the Swedes have a simpler successful.

Sports mode seemed by a piece of narrow use: Easy, unobtrusive impulvability leaves, leaving the naked bunch of nerves - for each pressing of the gas, the car is unnecessarily twitching forward, sometimes forcing to slow down. The brakes in X5, by the way, are also very sensitive - to this feature you have to get used to it.

From the point of view of passability, uniquely BMW is inferior to the leaders: despite the decent road lumen and well-working imitation of differential locks, X5 is deprived and downstream, and pneumatic suspension with changeable clearance.

Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 D 4Matic


Normally GLE is considered a new model, but in fact Mercedes became the most age participant of our test: in fact, this is a third generation ML, processed by restyling.

The interior during the modernization has changed not too much: instead of the display built into the front panel, it appeared with a new steering wheel, and a small wheel for walking on the onboard system menu gave way to a massive controller with a touchpad hanging over it.

Mercedes seems perfectly balanced machine

"Mercedes" for me - a brand special: I have a weakness from childhood to cars with a three-beam star. Salon at GLE Like a cozy office, from which I do not want to go out. Everything here is thorough, almost conservatively - and at the same time modern, respectable and aristocratic. There are no comments to the ride qualities - they are polished to the brilliance. Yes, and Mark speaks for himself: the word "Mercedes" does not need to explain to anyone. True, I do not like the new system of designations - on the hearing, it is almost impossible to distinguish between one SUV from another.

The front seats of our GLE have been electrified at the maximum. The management of them is traditionally put on the door, however, in the bases there are buttons there are buttons - in particular, they regulate the lumbar sub-project. By the way, a curious feature: as the seats shift, they automatically raise head restraints - in my opinion, it is absolutely logical.


It's just surprising that other manufacturers still did not occur to do so. No less strange and the fact that Mercedesovs for some reason did not use the seat to facilitate the driver's landing: when the ignition is turned off, only the steering wheel is off.

By the stock of space on the couch, Mercedes is inferior to the "Audi" and "Volvo", but wins from BMW and Range. There is no inconvenience with the entrance and exit, although the probability of staining pants still exists - the doors do not protect the thresholds from dirt.

Of all five cars, Mercedes gives the impression of the most solid car. In it, everything is emphasized well: and noble appearance, and a comfortable interior, and a spacious trunk. True, with a multimedia, it seems to me, the Germans have twisted themselves: the touch panel on the central tunnel here is clearly superfluous. But the picture on the screen is good: and the image quality is extremely clear, and the font is quite large - no problems with the perception of information. And the operation of the circular survey system and at all above all silence! I liked the fact that for GLE, you can order a dispensing box with a downstream: with it to pull out the trailer with a boat - a pair of trifles. And yet, with other things being equal, I would prefer the larger GL - solely because of its size.

From the point of view of cargo transportation, the GLE salon designed successfully. And although the pillows and the back of the rear row have to be added separately, lowering head restraints to the lower position, but this operation leads to the formation of an absolutely flat floor.

His character is deliberately smooth, but it is precisely in this that the charm of this car lies: it is felt that a grand engineering work is worth such restrained behavior.

Generation was made from Discovery, then his heir was built on a common platform with a large Range. Rear passengers "Range" is also not easy: in addition to the high location above the ground, the input-output complicates the protruding wheel arch and a strongly inclined body rack. Yes, and places on the legs are less than in other machines, although more than in BMW. And here is the largest armrest, in which it also lies the remote control of the entertainment system - each passenger is put on the monitor and a set of headphones.

The English car liked more than the rest. If you do not pay attention to some inconvenience like difficulties with the inclusion of seats heating, then "Range" bribes the convenience of planting. The steering wheel and armchair departure, facilitating the exit, and the thresholds are protected from dirt by the doors. And what is the motor here! He not only causes a large car to gain a step, but it is distinguished by an exorbitantly low fuel consumption. I am confused only possible problems with reliability.

The front row lives easier. Nevertheless, here is its specificity. For example, heating and ventilation seats can be activated only with the help display of the multimedia system, although in the desired menu item you get immediately by pressing a special button on the central console. By the way, only in the "Range" you can warmly warm or cool the back either the seat cushion, pressing the desired zone on the display with your finger on the chairs.

Unfortunately, RRS was published, without waiting for a new multimedia system, which debuted on Jaguar XE: the old one is distinguished by primitive graphics, obviously not corresponding to the status of the machine. I did not like and work with USB drives: the system does not recognize all flash drives and refuses to reproduce individual tracks for unknown reasons.

The appearance of the Swedish car seems to me boring. But inside the second generation crossover surprised not only highly artistic design of the interior, but also its convenience: everything is for a person here. Yes, and the "tablet" on the central console here is quite appropriate, especially since it is managed by touch, and not diligent twist and drill. And what is the chic sound of the audio system! It is a pity that "Volvo" went up so much: if the new XC90 cost as much as old, he would definitely become a hit!

Once inside the Volvo, you immediately relax, having honed the very "atmosphere of well-being", which so carefully impregnated the salon designers. The inner world of hs90 is made with a great taste and graduated from the grace. What is only worth the inner decoration of the door: a sculptural surface, a combination of textures, colors, smooth lines of docking materials make it a piece of art. Separate items that are presented as branded chips do not look far-finished: fried "jewelry" to start the engine and the selection of motion modes is not just functional, but also easy to use. In any case, the quality of the finishing of XC90 is not inferior to German and British cars. The only fear causes a lacquer black plastic, from which the buttons on the knob and the door panel are made, the framing of climate control deflectors and the display on the center console. It all looks fashionable, but in fact it turns out to be marked.


By the way, about the display: a vertically-oriented touch tablet with the Sensus interface, over the filling of which Corpels Mitsubishi Electric specialists are characterized by good graphics and sufficient speed. It turned out to be easier to understand the menu than it seemed that the proportion of lack of logic does not suffer. But virtual devices were not impressed - after communicating with Audi, it does not leave the feeling that the Swedes mastered only a small part of the potential of such a dashboard.

But it is impossible to miss this: three days on a variety of cars and driving in a wide variety of conditions - everything is in order to answer the question: who goes on off-road? In this material you will not find a detailed view of a particular model, but you will find a "quick look" and the features of the off-road systems of many crossovers and SUVs.

But the company gathered notable: BMW X3, Ford Ranger, Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5 and Mazda CX-9, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Renault Kadjar, Subaru Outback, Suzuki Vitara S and Suzuki SX4, Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Toyota Highlander. Unfortunately, but the price of the BMW X3 is also far from the reality of the Ukrainian middle class: a test car - which I like and gives the impression "This is such a BMW X3, if not saving" - costs almost $ 2 million.
