According to the already established tradition, new projects were preparing for the Victory Day. In past years, these were three Su-37 for group pilot.
This year, a new ZIS project was launched by Victory Day. With the flights, everything was not clear, allowed or not.
So, the car is a veteran ZIS 5B. The grandfather of our chief designer of this project during the WWN precisely on such a car went to victory. This is the memory of him and about other veterans of the Second World War.
In terms of events, it was that this model would take part in the Victory Parade on May 9 in College College where we are now based. We managed to prepare everything in less than a day before the events. In less than a day, it was decided to make a frame and awning in the body.

Solved for the scale of the project to use the finished chassis based on Baja on the scale of 1: 5.

The front part with electronics is disconnected from the frame. The frame is increased by a length of 50 cm. Wheels in diameter 25 cm.

In winter, various options were considered, but they represented some difficulty, although they needed to look at the plan more copyino. But from this refused to favor finished products. The output was found to use with the revision of finished wheels from carts. So, 7 wheels are cooked. including One spare. On the sandpaper on the sides of the tires, the drawing is removed. The hubs are dismantled and on their place are made wooden under stock chambers for more convenient installation. The rear wheels are dual, with each other are connected by screws. Chamber wheels, all this is left as it is.
The frame from below is enhanced with aluminum corners. Top aluminum rail. The body and cabin will be attached to it.
From electronics, radiobox with a server steering moved forward as they were placed with a stock version. The braking actuator is left in stock location on a new attachment due to not changing settings for dismantling work and the collection of stock Baja.

We considered options for the manufacture of body, cabins from plywood, but due to more accurate conformity, it was decided to make from the rails, everything as in the original.



For compliance with the proportions, the model ZIS 5B is collected on 1:35.


It was according to it that the number of boards (relax) in each node was calculated. Thus, the body and cabin contain the same number of rails and boards as in this large-scale model. Dimensions are also observed.

ZIS-5 model review

If you first consider the set itself, you can confidently say that today, with a number of flaws, this is the best model of the ZIS-5 truck on a scale of 1:72. True, it is now very difficult to purchase it. First, a brief overview of the source material. The model represents the ZIS-5B car, it consists of seven small sprues, parts of the body platform, two parts of the frame, the parts of the wings and the foothold of the cab, glazing, rubber tires for the wheels, instructions. There are no decals in the set.


Malzing everything is very high quality, however, there are two small ducklings on the body platform. Wheels are very high quality, I hope who knows the products of the company "Elf", will understand what the headlights consist of several parts, including in reflectors.

Assembly of the ZIS-5 model

Let's turn to the assembly itself. With the first inspection, the minimum front work is immediately understood. Immediately, it drew attention is the grille grille. In the set it is very weak, it must be changed. In the photo above, it is clearly visible. I really did not like the wings, but I'm afraid, these are the costs of technology. Although, on the scale of 1:72, I saw more subtle and openwork elements, made much carefully. Well, the initial scope of work is determined, the rest will become clear along the way. Let's start with the radiator. From the plastic part I only left the edging, the rest cut out and from the inside chose engraver, to install a metal mesh. On the reverse side made an insert from the sheet polystyrene and paved two-component putty for Tamiya models. It turned out this item.


After assembled the engine hood. Since the lower part of the radiator lattice is less than it should be, it was necessary to increase it, according to the drawing and photo.


When preparing for work, I read the reviews of colleagues and describing the construction of models. There was noted that the rear wall of the cabin has a smaller than the width. When recalculating with the drawing and recalculate the size of 1:72, it became clear that it really is so, therefore, the item needs to be done again. I made it from sheet plastic. Due to the change in the rear wall width, it was re-made a roof, too, from a piece of polystyrene. When assembling a frame, it turned out that it is somewhat short, respectively, the axes of the wheels do not coincide with any drawing or overall dimensions. I had to build a frame, white inserts are visible in the photo. It also needed to sharpen drizzle from the sides.

During the dry bridge assembly, it was found that the frame was not parallel to the earth. I had to make the front springs to make substrates. In the photo they are visible from white plastic.





The next stage, as was supposed, turned out to be quite complicated - this is the manufacture of wings. When viewing photos, it turned out that there are several options for the execution of this node. I had to stay on one of them and think how to implement it in the metal. First, from the bottom of the bottom of the cabin, I cut off plastic wings.

Then from paper made patterns of wings, and after, from the copper foil, the plates of the desired shape made, and bent them in the right way. Then the side, the inner parts of the wings made the same principle.


It turned out not from the first attempt, but ultimately, we have such a result.

Now, after the final assembly of the cab, body and a number of fittings, this is such an intermediate assembly of the entire model.

Next, I made and painted the cockpit filling: the steering wheel, the speed switch lever, pedals, added some more little things. Now you can proceed to paint work. All the glass limited, along the contour, thin strips of Tamiya's tape and closed the Mr.Masking Sol from the Hansa.

For painting used paint Akan, color 4Bo. This ZIS-5B was made to the exhibition on May 9, the color was made at night, before the deadline. Due to the lack of time, the speech about tinting and washes has no longer walked. In the morning almost all the remaining elements were installed: headlights, muffler with exhaust pipe, wheels and all nodes are glued. In this form, the model was put up for the competition, where he ranked first, sharing it with a colleague on the nomination. According to the legend, the car has just sued the conveyor. Further, naturally, tinting, and the washes will be applied, glass will be cleared, there are a number of shortcomings. While the model lies, I can't find the state. In the Arkhangelsk region, on one of the islands of the White Sea, the miracle was preserved ZIS-5, abandoned there in the 60s due to the complete lack of roads. So we saw him.

Before the war, the bracket of the spare wheel was established from behind under the frame, which was extremely not convenient for operation. Since 1943, other brackets began to install on CIS-5V cars, they were attached under the body on the right side.


On the engine, the marking of the month and year of release is clearly visible - March 1941, which is confirmed by a similar casting on the collector. Wings are also in good condition, even the hood locks are preserved.


Even factory engine protection has been preserved on the car. Usually, such protection has not been preserved for two reasons: firstly, during operation, they strongly rust and rot, and secondly, if the engine was removed from the car, then these shields were usually no longer put into place.


Before pulling out the Zisa, it had to be abandoned from the snow and brushing the road.

The drive of the front brakes is also mechanical. The front brakes are very rarely found on the ziras, they practically did not work and demanded constant adjustments. Many drivers just shot them and thrown away.


Difficulties with the restoration of the bracket of the spare wheel on the occurrence, and the hinge also had to get out of the forest.


Electrical equipment on our car 6-volt - original instrument shield with speedometer, pressure gauge, ammeter and quite difficult to repair the central light switch. The bottom of the starter button is visible.


The CPP of the ZIS car installed original, represents the modernization of the CPP of the company "Brown and Lip" with increased size of gears. The gasoline pot of 60 liters was under the driver's seat - the logic of designers to understand the modern person is difficult, because to refill it is necessary to open the door and remove the seat! Obviously, it was necessary so that the driver makes charging daily and did not smoke at the wheel.

A set of native rubber of the brand I-1 size of 34x7 (corresponds to modern labeling 200x508) produced by the Leningrad Plant "Red Triangle" of 1938 of the release is established only at the exposure time. At the Moscow plant ZIS-5B lasted until 1946. Another truck - ZIS-150 came to replace him. He became a significant step forward. The large family of ZIS trucks gave rise to two more related lines. In 1951, the production of "Zisov" saddle tractors and dump trucks began in Kutaisi. In 1957, ZIS-150 has undergone indigenous modernization, after which the car received an index 164, and in the future - 164a and 164ar. Externally, these cars differed slightly from the ZIS-150, but possessed more power engines and improved units. Since in 1956 the plant was assigned the name I.A. The post-war generation of ZIS-150, the third on the score, has numbered almost twenty years. Despite numerous improvements, this engine is outdated by 1965. The transition to the new inevitably demanded the reconstruction of other nodes, the entire car. And in 1965, the conveyor rose ZIL-130 with a topless eight-cylinder engine. The Ural Avtozavod prepared at the beginning of the 1960s to replace the "Triumphon" a three-way model of increased passability - "Ural-375". It also produces a truck tractor and a road truck. ZIS-6 is distinguished by the presence of a third axis and a slightly enlarged radiator.
