The front suspension is independent, lever-spring type MacPherson strut, with telescopic shock-absorber struts, coil coil springs, lower wishbones and an anti-roll bar. The location of the front suspension elements on the vehicle is shown in Fig. 1, 2, 3, 4.

The main element of the front suspension is a telescopic shock absorber strut 1 (Fig. 2), which combines the functions of a telescopic element of the guide mechanism and a damping element for vertical oscillations of the wheel relative to the body. On the shock absorber strut 1, a twisted cylindrical compression buffer 4, a protective casing 5 of the strut and an upper support 1 are assembled (Fig. 1). Through a thrust bearing in the upper support, the load is transferred to the vehicle body. The shock absorber strut with its lower part is connected to the steering knuckle 3 (Fig. 4) of the front suspension. The front suspension arm is attached at the rear to the cross member 2 (Fig. 3) of the suspension using a silent block and a rubber bushing, and by the front part through a ball joint it is connected to the lower part of the steering knuckle of the front suspension. The cross member, in turn, is attached to the body side members.
The anti-roll bar 1 with rubber cushions installed on it is connected to the cross member 2 of the front suspension and to the levers by four brackets.

In the "classic" and "comfort" vehicle trim levels, the front springs have more rigid characteristics, in contrast to the "base" configuration. Outwardly, there are no differences, the difference lies in the labeling of the springs. On the "base" there are one white and two green dots; "classic" and "comfort" are one yellow and two brown dots.

Replacing the front struts and springs.

Before replacing old (dead) racks, it is necessary to carefully diagnose the state of the above listed elements. So that later it would not be sad when you remove the rack and disassemble it into its components, you will understand that there are not enough new elements for repair, since it makes no sense to put the old ones back.

If the front shock absorbers fail, the working fluid (oil) gets on the protective rubber boot, thereby corroding it and rendering it unusable. Also, there are frequent failures of the front supports of the shock absorbers. In general, to replace the front struts, in addition to the struts themselves, you may need:
- Dampers (bumpers);
- Protective cover (boot);
- Upper support of shock absorbers;
- Springs.

Before replacing the front struts, you need to make simple measurements as shown in the photo below.


And if the dimensions you measured coincide and the size from the edge of the wing to the center of the wheel axle on a standing car is 373 mm (photo 1) or less, then the front springs must also be replaced. Because in this case, the weight of the car is not spring-loaded, but lies with a polyurethane bump stop on the rack and the car's suspension does not work. For those who still have doubts about the correctness of the calculation, they can make the calculations themselves. Photo 2 shows the size of the full protrusion of the stem from the rack, photo 3 a bump stop installed in its place (the height of our bump stop is 93 mm). 435 mm is the measurement from the edge of the fender to the center of the wheel with the front wheel suspended from the jack.
The optimal size from the edge of the wing to the middle of the wheel, installed without load on the ground of the car, for high-quality operation of the front suspension is 385-390 mm.

And so, to replace the front struts and springs, you will need the following tool: a 13 spanner (upper rack mount), 19 union wrench, spring ties, a 6 hexagon (unscrew the upper nut 19 supports), a 17 open-end wrench (compress the springs)

Such springs, judging by the catalogs, are intended for installation on cars equipped with a 1.9 liter diesel engine. These springs are accordingly designed for high loads.

Universal anthers with bumpers, Japanese production code 04-020, where 020 means the diameter of the stem of our rack is 20 mm and the length is 98 mm. The length of the bump stop had to be shortened by one ring, i.e. under the size 84 mm (the size of the standard bumper is 93 mm). Having installed anthers with bumpers of this brand, we simultaneously solve another childhood illness of our car - this is the knock of a plastic bump stop on a metal support cup.

Elimination of squeaks in the front suspension.

If there are characteristic squeaks in the front suspension (rubber crunch) after the car overcomes large irregularities on the road (example: a speed bump), first of all, you should pay attention to two components of the front suspension that can emit these sounds:

Outer anti-roll bar bushings;
- Front bushings of the front lower suspension arms.

Accordingly, we are trying to solve the problem of squeaks with little blood, for this, first, we replace the stabilizer bushings. Maybe this will be the end of our search.

Remove any front wheel.

We unscrew the central mounts on both sides of the stabilizer and the outer mount of the stabilizer on the other side where the wheel was removed.

Eliminating the knock of the anthers of the front struts

1. Jack up the front of the car to hang out the wheel. It is not necessary to remove the wheel - it does not interfere. Lower the boot down.



2. Cut out a ring with a diameter of 80 mm from rubber of any thickness. Inner diameter for piston rod about 15 mm

3. We put this economy on the stock and raise the boot into place.

Behind the bumpers, the situation is similar to the front one, in order to get rid of knocks, we do a similar operation on the rear shock absorbers.

First, we purchase components.



To press out the outer sleeve of the front s / w, I purchased a puller s / w 2108 and 8 washers 30 x 16.


For pressing, I used a bushing of a suitable diameter and a bolt with a rocker arm from a universal bearing puller.



It turned out to be more difficult to remove the ball bearings and the old b / w, which did not fall out on their own, I had to cut, drill, saw the rubber in order to release the outer sleeve of the front, and the inner rear bush. The bushing of the rear s / w is cut off by the grinder to the axle, is torn off with a gas wrench, after which it can be easily removed. To remove the ball joint, it is necessary to cut off the heads of the rivets with a grinder, and drill out the body of the rivets, or press out using a press (if any).


The jig for pressing in the rear s / w had to be done by myself.


The process of pressing in with / w is clear from the photo. We install the jig on the lever, bait three bolts so that the small hole. in the lever coincided with the small holes in the jig (for centering, you can use a drill with a diameter of 5 mm), tighten the bolts, ream the hole in the lever to a diameter of 6.1-6.2 mm and insert a pin 6 mm in diameter made of good hardened steel (the drill shank bends when pressed ). We pre-wash the bushings and axles, then press in with a / b. The only nuance is in the correct orientation of the rear s / w, which is done visually, aligning the plane of the s / w bracket with the plane of the conductor angle.

Handling is good, average comfort, large trunk 550 liters, the cabin is comfortable on long trips, you don't get tired of the dynamics, the dynamics are weak, the galvanized body, thick metal, excellent gearbox, clear engagement, short lever strokes, the engine runs quietly, the sound insulation is average, the suspension is stiff, not penetrable.
