I've had operating experience for over a month now, I'm very pleased with the purchase, 20 minutes of Webast operation is enough to easily start the diesel engine, I didn't turn on the interior heating, the battery discharges faster, and the mileage is short, it doesn't have time to recharge, so for me this is a way out. Many thanks to the store staff, they took the order over the phone, politely and clearly explained what was what, delivered via Business Lines, the packaging is very good, I advise everyone to install Webasto for a diesel engine!

Look

The heater is usually installed in engine compartment in the area between the wheel arch and the front bumper. Installation is carried out as low as possible to ensure self-removal air from the heater and circulation pump.

The heater must not be installed:

– in the zone of direct thermal influence of the exhaust gas exhaust system

– below the fordable level of the car

– above the coolant compensation tank.

Compliance with the installation instructions is mandatory!

The heater is attached to the bracket with at least 3 M5 screws with a tightening torque of 8 Nm. The standard bracket is attached with at least 4 M6 screws to the vehicle body or to the intermediate bracket. Do not attach the bracket to the body with self-tapping screws. If necessary, it is allowed to technically modify the bracket.

Connection to the cooling system.

The heater is connected to the car's cooling system in accordance with the diagram, where 1) Radiator. 4) Internal combustion engine. 7) Circulation pump. 10) Liquid heater. 14) Heat exchanger of the vehicle heating system. 28) Compensation tank. 29) Thermostat

The circulation pump (liquid pump) is installed in accordance with the diagram:

The amount of coolant in the circuit must be at least 1.5 liters. The heater is usually connected to the cooling system at the inlet of the heat exchanger. Collect any leaking coolant in a suitable container. Always use coolant hoses supplied by Webasto. Otherwise, the hoses must at least comply with DIN 73411, material class B. The hoses must be laid without kinks and, if possible, with a rise from the heater to allow unimpeded air removal. The internal diameter of the hoses should be 18 mm. Secure the hose connections with clamps to prevent them from slipping.

Installation of fittings.

Never mount the mounting plate and fittings on installed heater . The contact surfaces of the sealing rings in the heat exchanger must be clean and undamaged. Moisten before installation O-rings water. Place the O-rings in the heat exchanger holes. Insert the fittings into the support plate. Install the fittings in the required position, in accordance with the diagram.

Attach the support plate with fittings to the heat exchanger. Self-locking screw DG 5X15 mm, tightening torque 7 Nm. To independently remove air from the heater, the water outlet fitting should be directed upward by 0 -90°, if possible. Follow correct position coolant temperature sensor wires.

21) Heat exchanger inlet. 22) Heat exchanger output. 30) Sensor wire.

Hose installation

The clamps on the heat exchanger fittings should be installed between the thickening of the fitting and the hose stop. Before starting the heater for the first time and after replacing the coolant, ensure that air is thoroughly removed from the cooling system. The heater and piping must be installed in such a way that static air removal is ensured. Insufficient air removal can lead to problems with the heater due to overheating.

Installation of a circulation pump

The circulation pump is installed in the cooling circuit with the discharge side facing the inlet of the heat exchanger of the heater. Consider the direction of flow of the circulation pump to the vehicle's cooling circuit. The installation position of the circulation pump must be selected so that it can bleed itself. The air from the pump should flow upward through the fittings. Incorrect installation can lead to malfunctions of the pump.

Control

After installing the heater and all components of the cooling system, it is necessary to check its tightness with the pressure prescribed by the vehicle manufacturer.

Connection to the fuel system

The connection is made optionally to the supply or return line or through a special fuel intake in the tank. For vehicles with a fuel pump, fuel must not be drawn from the supply line! If the car has check valve on the return line to the tank, then fuel cannot be taken from the return line. It must be ensured that the withdrawal of fuel for the heater does not result in a shortage of fuel in the vehicle's fuel system. – When withdrawing from the intermediate tank, it must be ensured that it is not empty. Correct installation carried out in accordance with the scheme, where 33) from the tank. 34) to the dosing pump. 35) to the engine

The connection can also be made through the fuel intake unit, in accordance with the diagram, where 31) Fuel sampler from the tank. 32 Fuel intake unit with hole

The mounting surface of the fuel pick-up must be clean, smooth and free of burrs. When using a fuel pick-up in a fuel pick-up assembly, the lift tube must be carefully installed. It should not affect the operation of the parts of the fuel intake unit, including the fuel level indication. The length of the lifting tube should be chosen such that, when assembled, the distance to the bottom of the tank is at least 10 mm or 20 mm to the bottom of the fuel intake unit. Observe the safety measures prescribed by the vehicle manufacturer and the tightening torques. threaded connections. The fuel pick-up should only be installed in the fuel pick-up assembly; under no circumstances should it be mounted into the tank body.

Fuel line.

The fuel line is divided into suction and discharge lines. The suction line connects the tank to the metering pump, the pressure line runs from the metering pump to the heater. The length of the fuel line should be as short as possible. The fuel line must be protected from damage along its entire length. Fuel lines should be installed in cool areas to prevent bubbles from forming due to heat. Heat fuel may cause heater malfunctions. Therefore, the fuel line should not be routed near strong heat sources (such as exhaust systems) or in areas of aerodynamic heating. If possible, the fuel line should be laid with a rise from the tank to the heater. Secure the fuel line so that it does not sag. When walking over sharp edges, install abrasion guards. It is prohibited to lay the fuel line inside the vehicle.

Connecting two tubes with a hose

The correct connection of the fuel line pipes with a hose is shown in the figure, where41) Clamp. 42) Air bubble

Check the connections for tightness!

Dosing pump.

A metering pump is a combined feed, metering and shut-off element that must meet certain installation criteria.

The metering pump must not be installed in the thermal zone of hot vehicle parts. If necessary, thermal insulation should be used. The preferred location is near the tank. The dosing pump should be mounted on a vibration-damping suspension. The mounting position restrictions are shown in the figure above. ( maximum angle tilt, axial position), thus ensuring good removal air. The arrow shows the direction of fuel flow.

A notice must be attached at the location of the filler neck warning that the heater must be turned off before refueling. Use the supplied stickers. Place the “Turn off the heater while refueling” sticker near the fuel filler neck. When switching to winter fuel It is necessary to turn on the heater for about 15 minutes so that the fuel lines and fuel pump are filled with new fuel.

Combustion air supply

The air intake must be located or protected so that it is not likely to be blocked by debris or balance. The air intake opening should be positioned so that the intake air is not contaminated. It should not be directed in the direction of travel. An inlet pipe is required to supply combustion air. The air intake should be made from a cool, splash-protected place located above the ford level of the vehicle. If the air intake opening is located in a closed space, a ventilation opening with an area of at least 3 cm2 is required.

Exhaust system

The exhaust gas pipeline (internal diameter 22 mm) can be laid with several turns (total 270°, smallest bend radius 50 mm). The total length of the pipeline should be from 500 to 1000 mm. Operation of the Thermo Top Evo heater without an exhaust gas muffler is not permitted. The muffler must not be located close to the combustion air intake. The muffler should be installed at a distance of at least 200 mm from the heater. Make a hole ø 2 mm for condensate drainage in the lowest point muffler.

The muffler and exhaust pipe must not be mounted on temperature-sensitive parts of the vehicle (brake pipes, electrical wires, vehicle controls, headlights, lower engine protection, plastic parts, etc.) and should be located at a distance of at least 20 mm from them. Only spacers approved by Webasto for this purpose may be used. The exhaust pipe must be sufficiently secured to ensure that the above minimum distances are maintained, even when the vehicle is moving. To remove exhaust gases, only pipes approved for use by Webasto may be used. It is recommended to install the exhaust system protected from splashes.

It is necessary to ensure the removal of condensate from the pipes. If necessary, it is possible to make a hole to drain condensate at the lowest point of the system.Exhaust system outlet pipe exhaust gases must be located in such a way that there is no possibility of exhaust gases getting inside vehicle through fans, heating system air intakes or open windows.

The exhaust gas outlet must not be obstructed. Gases must not be directed towards vehicle parts. Exhaust gases are not allowed to escape in the area of the wheel arch. Please note the maximum steering angle of the front wheels. Locate the exhaust gas outlet so that it cannot become clogged or damaged under any operating conditions. The end of the exhaust pipe must not be directed in the direction of travel of the vehicle. The flow of exhaust gases must be directed vertically downward or with an inclination of no more than 20° against the direction of vehicle movement. After passing through the lower engine protection exhaust pipe should protrude another 10 mm.

Electrics.

Electrical components such as relays, fuses, switches, etc. must be installed so that they are protected from ingress of water (splashes, water from high pressure washing...).

The electrical connection of the heater is carried out in accordance with the diagram. The timer is also connected according to this scheme.

Explanations for the diagram.

The heater is controlled either remotely - from the Telestart T91 remote control or by telephone using the Thermo Call system, or from a digital timer installed in the car. The heater can be equipped with one of the listed control systems or any combination thereof - this is discussed separately when purchasing/installing the heater. Here you can take a closer look at our control systems

Is it true that using a heater increases safety?

Statistics show that in winter most road accidents occur in the first 15 minutes of a trip. The reason for this is the limited visibility and increased driver reaction time when low temperatures. Pre-heater that warms up the interior and promotes defrosting windshield, helps solve these problems and thereby improves travel safety.

Does the heater consume a lot of fuel?

One of the main areas of improvement Webasto heaters– reducing their fuel consumption. Currently, the Thermo Top Evo heater requires no more than 0.7 liters of fuel per hour to operate at full load. In addition, since the heating efficiency is very high, as a rule, the desired temperature in the circuit is reached earlier, and the control unit of the heater automatically switches it to an economical partial load mode. In addition, a warm engine consumes less fuel, this usually compensates for the additional fuel consumption of the heater.

My car is equipped with air conditioning (climate control). Is it possible to install a preheater on it?

Installation on most modifications of cars equipped with air conditioning or a climate control system will not encounter any obstacles. May be required additional work on setting up on-board electronics, as well as installing the necessary relays, etc. - in any case, the additional time and money spent on this is relatively small. Regarding the use of the heater: depending on the air conditioning/climate control system installed on your car, during the preparation of the heater for operation (i.e. before you leave the car in the parking lot), you may need to press 1-2 additional buttons. Webasto develops for such cars special instructions both for installation and use: you can find out more in our service centers!

What is the difference between the Thermo Top Evo 5 and 5+ preheaters?

Both models have a thermal power of 5 kW and operate at max. 60 minutes. Thanks to optimized cooling circuit control, the Thermo Top Evo 5 provides increased cooling warm air into the car interior by warming up the engine. In temperate European climates and for those whose priority is interior warmth, the Thermo Top Evo 5+ is often preferable to the "5" model.

Unfortunately, this model is only available on European market, but in Russia we offer you a special retrofit kit for Thermo Top Evo 5, with which it works similarly to the “5+” model. And for SUVs with engines larger than 4 liters, we recommend powerful Thermo heaters Pro 90.
