Older people, of course, remember this bearded joke:

Armenians are better than Georgians...

What's better?

Than the Georgians.

This story, remarkable in its depth of thought, can easily illustrate the situation with the Bavarian “five”. Because when asked why the new one is better than the previous F10, it’s tempting, to be honest, to answer - why is the F10 better?

Let me explain: the car that is now consigned to history was very good, and this was indirectly confirmed by the restyling carried out in the middle of its production life. The update turned out to be purely formal, and this was not explained by laziness, but by the presence of basic common sense: no more or less serious reasons Neither engineers nor designers really had the ability to improve and modernize the car at that time.

I cannot declare with all responsibility that I was invariably delighted with every little thing, with every detail of the sixth generation car - this is by no means the case, which I will not fail to dwell on below. But let me remind you that we were talking about some significant shortcomings, and their car had neither parts nor technology.

And yet, the laws automotive market are inexorable - like it or not, every six or seven years we have to introduce the next generation, no matter how perfect the car is. Few manufacturers risk breaking this rule, and why? Sales must be stimulated by everyone possible methods. Therefore, back in 2010 it was possible to confidently predict that we would see the new “five” in 2016. It seems that the Bavarians had to work hard to figure out which direction to move with their, in principle, unnecessary improvement.

But the fruits of this “sweating” are not obvious. How, for example, does Karim Habib, another chief designer, determine the differences between the G30 and F10? He says: " New BMW The 5 Series impresses with maturity, style and dynamics. The rigorous and precise design combines nobility, aesthetic appeal and functionality in equal measure.” I subscribe to every word of Mr. Habib - and with equal readiness both about the new and about the outgoing generation.

The easiest way to list the differences is based on technical data. For example, 29 mm longer, 6 mm wider and 2 mm higher. Wheelbase grew by 7 mm. Just wonderful, isn't it? However, it is absolutely not informative, since it is not easy to notice a 29 mm difference with a total five-meter length of the car even with a heavily armed eye. In the same way, it is difficult to determine the 100-kilogram gain in weight for a more than one and a half ton car.

Let's look at the more obvious differences. Even as we approached the car, I noticed that the headlights of the “” - in the fashion established by the 3 Series - now also fit closely to the radiator grille. And you know, this is not bad, since one of the few details that I didn’t really like on the previous car was the shape of the front lighting fixtures. It is immediately worth mentioning another change for the better - the lower cutout front bumper received more noble outlines in my opinion.

The waves radiating from the emblem disappeared from the hood, and with them that asexual concavity in the center, which, nevertheless, was so exciting. Yes, cover engine compartment, so to speak, now looks more strict and concise, but less original. Let us mention in passing that the lanterns have become wider and climb a little more rear wings, and we can assume that now any neophyte will visually distinguish the G30 from the F10.

Sitting in the driver’s seat, the first thing I noted with satisfaction was that the change of generations had in no way affected the comfort of the “comfortable” Bavarian ones. They are still perfect in every way. Lateral support tightly hugs the torso, preventing the body from dangling in sharp turns. The seat cushion extending under the knees is exactly the width so that the leg does not fall off to the side, and the tilt-adjustable upper part of the backrest prevents the spine from getting tired at any length. The chair can be adjusted to suit any figure within a few seconds. This pleasure is optional, and you will have to pay an additional 195,000 rubles for it. However, the latter can be attributed to the advantages of miracle seats only with great reserve.

A fleeting glance at the front panel confirmed that this is a verbatim quotation from the 7th series, adjusted for different widths cars. The outlines of the control unit and audio system have changed, the liquid crystal monitor has replaced the analog instrument dials, and the multimedia display has emerged from the cramped space under the dashboard visor. We find a continuation of the copy-paste on the central tunnel - switching driving modes is now entrusted not to the key, but to the touch panel. Actually, both the version of the infotainment complex control system and the equipment that allows you to issue a number of simple commands with gestures are the same as on the “seven”.

Apparently, the designers were not given the task of surpassing its predecessor in the quality of finishing materials: improving what was already good would only spoil it. But the creators of the seventh generation of the “five” had a blast in an area to which I am completely indifferent, namely in turning the car into one full of side functions.

The base vehicle is equipped with a stereoscopic video camera, which, with the support of radars and ultrasonic sensors, continuously monitors the surrounding space, warning the driver about vehicles moving in the transverse direction, about leaving the lane, and activating side collision protection if necessary. When navigation is turned on, the system takes into account the speed limit on each specific section of the route. You can park the car from outside - the key, more reminiscent of a smartphone, makes it easy to pull off this trick, commanding the car to move forward or backward.

Having turned, twisted, touched and switched everything, put the phone in the wireless charging box, I realized that it was time to get down to the most important thing. Any, even the 7-series leviathan, is made for the roads. His element is assertive, aggressive movement. His king and god is the driver, and any of his desires is subject to immediate, strict and precise fulfillment.

Rush? No problem. The most stolid diesel 520d xDrive accelerates to hundreds in 7.6 seconds, while the insane M550i xDrive takes just 4 seconds. For experiments, I had a 530d xDrive that was average in temperament, but it worked out its performance characteristics to the fullest. At least I didn’t have any suspicions that the official data was lying, indicating the time to reach 100 km/h at 5.4 seconds. Six in a row, equipped with a turbocharger, produces a peak power of 249 hp. With. and a torque of 620 Nm. You can rely on them - they will not let you down in any situation. You will always have enough time to accelerate, overtake, uphill, downhill, on a straight line, or on a bend.

Is it stupid to press on the gas when entering a turn? I completely agree with this. However, if even in the relaxed “Comfort” mode, the hood in a fast “esque” remains strictly parallel to the ground, and the wheels hold on to the asphalt with a death grip, not allowing any hint of uncontrolled drift, then it is not easy to resist such freaks. Undoubtedly, it is better to do such tricks on race track, but with some precautions you can experience the beauty of lateral overloads on the roads. The main thing is not to lose your head and not create problems for others.

Sound insulation does not allow entry into the interior from the outside extraneous sounds, with the exception of those that are really pleasant to the driver's ear - namely, the rumbling of the engine. And not at all! Although it was under the hood of my car, you can be sure that its rich rumble will give odds to anyone gasoline unit even with the exhaust tuned.

In the end, let's ask ourselves: does this car have any disadvantages? Without a doubt. At least one thing I will mention right off the bat is price. Behind basic version you will have to pay 2,760,000 rubles, for a car with all-wheel drive - at least 2,900,000 rubles. The gasoline version will lighten your wallet by 2,990,000 “wooden” best case scenario. Well, the top-end M550i xDrive will delight the buyer with a price tag of 5,100,000 rubles.

It's a pity, but the sheriff doesn't care about the problems of the Indians. The Bavarians are confident that the cost of their products is adequate, and they do not change their financial policy.

This German company, known for producing quality and luxury cars, motorcycles and engines. Founded in 1916 and headquartered in Munich, Germany, the initials of BMW stand for Bayerische Motoren Werke or Bavarian Motor Works.

Round blue and white logo or identification mark BMW evolved from the round Rapp Motorenwerke logo combined with the blue and white colors of the Bavarian flag. The logo depicts the movement of an airplane propeller with white blades cutting through a blue sky - first appearing in a BMW advertisement in 1929, twelve years after it was created.

BMW was created as an entity entrepreneurial activity as a result of the restructuring of the aircraft manufacturing company Rapp Motorenwerke in 1917. At the end of the First World War in 1918, under the terms of the Treaty of Versailles, BMW was forced to stop producing aircraft engines and switch to producing motorcycles in 1923, and then cars in 1928-1929 due to the lifting of treaty restrictions.

BMW's first successful car was the Dixi (pictured), licensed by Austin Motor Company of Birmingham, England, while the first significant aircraft engine BMW is considered to be a 1918 BMW IIIa, inline six-cylinder engine With liquid cooled, very effective at high altitudes.

In 1930, in connection with the rearmament of Germany, the company again began producing aircraft engines for the Luftwaffe. The most successful among them were the BMW 132 and BMW 801, radial engines with air cooled, like the innovative, axial-flow turbojet BMW engine 003, which powered the Heinkel He 162 Spatz, a small, jet-powered "crash" fighter from the 1944-1945 era. This engine was tested on the world's first jet fighter, the Messerschmitt Me 262, but suffered a major setback when it failed on takeoff.

By the end of the 3rd Reich, BMW had developed several military aircraft designs for the Luftwaffe: the BMW Strahlbomber jet bomber, the BMW Schnellbomber fast bomber and the BMW Strahljäger fighter aircraft - but none of them were built.

By 1959, BMW's automotive division was on the verge of closure due to financial difficulties. The meeting of shareholders decided to move to the production of small cars, which at that time were experiencing a real boom. The rights to produce the Italian Iso Isetta were acquired; the miniature cars themselves were powered by a modified engine BMW motorcycle- all this turned out to be quite successful and helped the company get back on its feet.

The controlling majority shareholder of BMW Aktiengesellschaft since 1959 is the Quandt family, which owns about 46% of the shares. The rest are in free circulation. BMW acquired the Hans Glas company, headquartered in Dingolfing, Germany, in 1966. It is believed that the acquisition was aimed primarily at gaining access to the Glas development - timing belt overhead camshaft drive for automotive applications.

In 1992 year BMW bought a large stake in the California-based industrial design studio Designworks USA, which became its property in 1995. In 1994, BMW bought the British Rover Group, which at that time consisted of the Rover brands, Land Rover and MG, and also owned the rights to the disappeared Austin and Morris, and owned it for six years.

By 2000, Rover had suffered huge losses and BMW decided to sell it. The MG and Rover brands were sold to the Phoenix Consortium, which formed MG Rover, and Land Rover was taken over by Ford. Meanwhile, BMW retained the rights to build the new Mini, which was launched in 2001.

In 1998, when famous Rolls-Royce Motor Cars was put up for sale, and BMW and Volkswagen entered the fight for it. In the end, VW won. However, as it turned out, VW acquired only the plant itself and Bentley brand- for 1.44 billion German marks, and the rights to Rolls-Royce brand and the corporate logo went to BMW for 120 million marks. Thus, one auto giant acquired the rights to produce limousines, and another acquired the rights to the name.

In July 2007, the rights to manufacture the Husqvarna Motorcycles brand were acquired by BMW for a reported €93 million. BMW Motorrad plans to continue operating Husqvarna Motorcycles as a separate entity. All development, sales and production activities, as well as the current workforce, remained at its current location in Varese.

In June 2012, BMW was included in Forbes magazine's list of the world's most powerful companies. The rating was based on such aspects as “people’s willingness to buy, recommend, work for and invest in a company, determined 60% by the evaluation of the company itself and only 40% by the perception of its products.”

Motorsport

Always played a big role at BMW, stimulating the research process and further development. BMW's first motorsport triumph dates back to 1936 at the Nürburgring, which ended with a convincing class victory for the 328.

The company's CSL model achieved a series of successes in race tracks, winning six European automobile championships from 1973 to 1980. In 1983, for the first time in the history of Formula 1 racing, the world title was won by a car with a 1,400 hp turbo engine. With. from BMW with the legendary Nelson Piquet at the wheel. At the end of the 90s, thanks to the emergence of powerful V-engine With 12 cylinders, an entire era of victories at Le Mans began. Even the McLaren F1 GTR, which reigned supreme at the time, was equipped with a similar BMW engine.

How does the test drive work?

BMW testing is carried out accompanied by a BorisHof employee. Our employee performs the first lap in the tested car, after which he gives up the driver’s seat to you, moving to the front passenger seat.

You can ask the accompanying specialist any questions you may have during the test. Test the BMW in normal driving conditions. To check the behavior of the car for high speed or during sudden braking, warn the consultant in advance.

At the end of the test drive, tell the manager about your feelings. If you didn’t like something or found it inconvenient, for example, monitoring instrument readings, don’t hide it. It may be worth testing out another model that will allow you to experience the true pleasure of driving a premium car.

Already two generations of success behind us compact crossover from a famous Bavarian manufacturer. BMW X3 has made certain adjustments to the distribution leadership positions in this class. And even though the model is young, there can be no childhood illnesses, because it is based on the platform of cars from the Bavarian concern that have already been tested all over the world. But does the compact car really have no disadvantages at all?

When German concern BMW released its “five” for the first time in 1999; it was significantly different from analogues of other manufacturers and opened a new market segment. After more than a dozen years, the car has undergone virtually no changes - it is still the same crossover, the emphasis is on road performance and comfortable driving.

The global market is developing very quickly, new trends are absorbed into the blood of the automotive body, pulsating with super-fast rhythms. And legislators in this world do not change. As if decades ago, representatives of German and Japanese concerns, stretching their sphere of influence along with factories and car showrooms to every country in the world. Perhaps that is why the BMW X6 has become a bestseller in its class. And perhaps because it is the only representative of the SUV-coupe class among the world's revered manufacturers.

There is perhaps no more accurate and comprehensive way to evaluate a car than to test drive it. After all, in in this case it becomes possible not only to visually examine the exterior and interior of the cabin, but also to test the convenience of placement, control, as well as driving performance.

BMW test drive as the main method when choosing a car

It’s not for nothing that many self-respecting car dealerships nowadays regularly organize presentations of new car models with mass test drives. In addition, a person choosing a car can test drive a BMW to see its advantages over its competitors.

Of course, the test drive is carried out with a dealership representative sitting in the passenger seat. He advises the driver on the machine controls, individual functions, and also provides all the information the client is interested in.

Depending on the purpose of a particular car, a test drive can be carried out in different conditions. For example, if we are talking about the X5 SUV, then the program should include country roads, and it is better to test the roadster on the autobahn.

Benefits of a test drive

A test drive provides the customer with a lot of information about the car and allows them to accurately decide on the choice of model. It is worth noting the undoubted “advantages” of this event:

  • Opportunity to evaluate dynamic characteristics favorite car;
  • Testing the suspension on our less-than-ideal roads;
  • Assessment of acoustic comfort when driving;
  • Testing the convenience of the driving position, the necessary adjustments and accessibility of controls;
  • Try it out various modifications one model for the purpose of final selection.

As you can see, a BMW test drive allows you to get a complete and clear impression of a specific car. Considering the class and features of cars of this brand, it is worth noting that a test drive will not leave any driver indifferent. She is able to give a lot of pleasure from driving these beautiful machines.

Four “Europeans”, “American” and “Japanese” from the 80s and 90s. Five expensive (once) sedans and one coupe. Six old-school devices in varying states of preservation. Those who buy such cars claim that it is a thrill... We asked ourselves: what is so good about luxury models aged 20–35 years?

Kia Stinger, undoubtedly a milestone in the history of the Korean company - the first premium car GT class. Today, the liftback, built on a rear-wheel drive platform, will try to give battle to the real masters among sports sedans - the BMW 330i and Mercedes-Benz C 300. What can it oppose to them, given the fact that a well-equipped Stinger costs less than the “Germans” in their basic configurations?

Three cars that need no introduction. Three real icons Russian market. Three characters. Three pillars costing 5–6 million rubles (in comparable versions). BMW X5 and Volkswagen Touareg generation changed last year. And the current generation of the Cruiser (J200 body) has been in production for 12 years, but this does not affect its popularity: the “Japanese” is selling better than the “Germans”. What can they present in response? latest developments BMW and Volkswagen?

The age-old question: comfort or handling? In theory, a crossover, especially a premium one, should combine both of these qualities, but in reality, engineers rarely manage to find the right balance. For example, the retired second-generation BMW X3 drove accurately and lively, but was too tight in terms of suspension. If you think that it was bought up by racing enthusiasts, then look around - the stream is full of modest X-Thirds with indexes 20d and 20i, in which mothers with children drive. Maybe the newest X3 with the G01 index turned out better? We will calibrate the comfort-handling balancers together with the Volvo XC60 and Audi Q5.

“X-five”, or “X-fifth”, as it is also called, like other large and expensive crossovers- a demonstrator of status and successful life. But in his case it is also the personification of pressure, driver aggression. In general, the fact that its owner appreciates the chassis settings, and does not just buy into the image. And something that my classmates, and indeed no one else at all, has. Without a doubt, this was the case with the first generation X5 (E53). True, competitors caught up to the second. Nevertheless, the E70 (since 2006) has a reputation as a car aimed at the driver, who above all values driving pleasure. What does one have to put on the altar of such pleasure?

Rabid BMW fans and simply fans of the Bavarian brand! Cry! Cry with burning tears, for the bastion has fallen. The “Germans” completely ignored their own postulates that were given to us in the past. Are you used to the fact that BMW is rear or in as a last resort four-wheel drive? This is no longer the case - the Active Tourer is built on a front-wheel drive platform! Did you like the power, pressure and characteristic sound of atmospheric “sixes” from the last century? Under the hood of the 218i there are half as many cylinders and a turbocharger! Did you think that if it’s a BMW, then it’s a sedan, a coupe, or, at worst, a crossover? Now everything is not so - today Drom.ru is testing the first compact van from Munich.

Oh, there were times... When inherently compact cars remained compact, the manufacturer did not strive to outdo competitors with interior equipment, and the minds of the designers were entirely dominated by pure style and the desire to bring the technology to the ideal. As a result, despite the fact that already in the 70s many cars were produced in Europe, each had its own unique personality. Engineering in the absence of any electronic assistants relied on bare mechanics. And what creations were born! Even in the small class, even where, it would seem, you’re just churning out little boxes and equipping them with small engines. BMW in the E21 body, the first model of the third series in 1975, is just one of those. Fortunately, there is a gorgeous sample to consider.

“Koreans” are eager to go “premium”! And if in presentations of Hyundai i30 or KIA Optima this word frankly hurts the ear - there is no more premium in these cars than in a paper bag from a boutique with the label of an expensive brand - which is the case with the new executive Genesis sedan With the G90, the notorious premium quality no longer seems far-fetched. Genesis is clearly aiming for the most fashionable segment and, as they say at Hyundai, is quite ready to compete with Big cars German troika. We decided to give him this opportunity. The exam will be held by the newest and, as a result, the most sophisticated this moment the German sedan is the BMW “seven” in its most “high-tech” hybrid version.
