The Cadillac SRX is the best-selling crossover of this manufacturer both in its homeland, in the USA, and in our country. In 2012, the upcoming transformation of the model was announced and last year it was presented at the New York Auto Show new Cadillac SRX. The crossover in a new look reached Russia quite recently.

History of the Cadillac SRX

The Cadillac SRX was born ten years ago, back in 2004. Over the next two years, the crossover managed to become one of the best-selling cars in its class and was twice nominated for the title “Car of the Year.” In 2009, the second generation of the popular crossover saw the light of day, which became no less popular than its predecessor.

The second generation was created based on the Provoq concept car, which in turn was built on an all-wheel drive platform called GM Theta Premium. In the spring of 2012, GM announced its intention to update Cadillac, as a result of which a restyled version appeared a year later crossover SRX.

The new Cadillac SRX has been transformed both outside and inside. Peculiarities technical equipment deserve a separate article, so we will have to dwell on the main differences between the third generation of crossover from GM.

Appearance Cadillac SRX

Externally, the crossover is still monolithic and aggressive. The faceted slots on the huge false radiator grille are now dressed in chrome, with a large company emblem in the very center. The front and rear bumpers have become smoother and more expressive. Now in front there is a compact air intake slot, on either side of which there are fog lights with a chrome trim. Light-alloy aluminum wheels with a diameter of 20 inches have also been transformed.

From the side, Cadillac stands out with its large arch radii and air intakes on the front wings, which, by the way, now have their own lighting. The roof is slightly sloping and domed. The doors have a high window sill line and fairly compact glass. The bottom of the crossover is covered with black plastic protection. The body also acquired another color option – Xenon Blue Metallic.

The image of the crossover is complemented by large vertical headlights with adaptive bi-xenon and running lights. From the front, the Cadillac SRX looks not just brutal, but assertive, even stern. The dimensions of the crossover are 4837 mm in length, 1910 mm in width, and 1669 mm in height from 179 mm. ground clearance.

The Cadillac interior has been transformed much more. It is as solid as before and looks very expensive. The center console has been refreshed, and the dashboard now features a large multi-function display with USB ports and an SD card slot. The steering wheel is heated. The control buttons are also located here. information system CUE, which is installed on the center console. The system allows you to configure an audio system with Bose acoustics (with eight speakers) or Bose 5.1 with 10 speakers, and adjust the climate control. CUE is also equipped with navigation and displays images from the rear view camera.

The driver's seat can comfortably accommodate a person of almost any size. All adjustments and settings are located at a distance arm's length, everything is located ergonomically and conveniently. The steering column can be adjusted in depth and height, and you can even customize the pedal assembly. The driver's seat has eight-way adjustment (with dual memory), adjustable lumbar support, heating and even ventilation, although only in the top trim levels. Heating is optionally available for the second row of seats.

I would especially like to note the sound insulation of the Cadillac. Both modern soundproofing materials and multi-layer double-glazed windows are used here. Between the rows of seats there is a system of structural barriers that prevent noise from under the car from entering the cabin.

The second row of American-style seats is comfortable and spacious; even three people can sit quite comfortably. If desired, you can order a panoramic roof with electric drives for the hatch itself and the sunshade. However, this solution is suitable only for true connoisseurs of comfort. There are many options for interior trim, so choosing the color and material to suit you is not difficult.

The cargo compartment of the Cadillac SRX has a volume of 844 liters, and with the rear seatbacks lowered, this figure increases to 1730 liters. The tailgate is equipped with an electric drive, and its opening angle can be changed.

Among the new safety features, we note blind spot monitoring systems, lane departure control, and a warning system for possible front and rear collisions.

In Russia, there are two engine options for the Cadillac SRX. The base engine has a volume of 3 liters and produces power up to 272 Horse power. This V-six peaks at 7,000 rpm and has excellent acceleration dynamics. After restyling, the engine became somewhat more economical and not as picky about the quality of gasoline as it was before.

According to official data, fuel consumption is about 13.6 liters in the city, 8.6 liters on the highway, and in mixed cycle– about 11.2 liters. The maximum speed with such an engine is limited to 210 km/h, acceleration to 100 takes only 8.5 seconds. This year the engine was slightly derated (power was reduced to 249 horses) while maintaining the same torque. This was done to reduce the tax burden, which, to be honest, was too high even for Cadillac owners.

Another engine option for Russia is a 3.6-liter V-shaped petrol six. The engine produces as much as 318 horsepower at 6800 rpm. At 2400 rpm, a torque of 360 Nm is achieved. It is not surprising that with such data the crossover is very, very dynamic: it accelerates to hundreds in 8.1 seconds, despite the fact that the SRX weighs two and a half tons. Fuel consumption also naturally increased to 16.3 liters in the city, 8.8 liters on the highway and 11.5 liters in mixed mode.

The Cadillac SRX is equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission with an all-wheel drive system and the ability to manually shift. A sport mode is also possible. All-wheel drive, by the way, began to distribute torque differently and is now complemented by a self-locking differential.

The engineers did not change the suspension. There is still the same MacPherson strut at the front and a multi-link design at the rear. The suspension adapts to road conditions and is completely independent. All wheels are equipped with ventilated brake discs with drying and fault notification system. The braking system is complemented by a variety of electronic assistants, such as ABS (4-channel, by the way), BAS, TRC, electric parking brake. Cadillac is equipped with power steering with a variable force coefficient.

Safety in the new SRX is top notch. In addition to standard front airbags, we will find side airbags and side curtain airbags that also protect rear passengers. All seat belts are three-point, door locks are programmable.

Prices and configurations Cadillac SRX

There are 2 configuration options for the Cadillac SRX: Base and Top. The price of the basic configuration starts at 2,059,000 rubles. For this money you will get a crossover with a 249-horsepower engine, dual-zone climate control, a CUE system, Bose acoustics, all-wheel drive and independent suspension. Finishing, as already mentioned, is only High Quality, so you don’t have to worry about comfort: although the equipment is basic, the crossover is premium.

But the top-end configuration is charged to the maximum. Both petrol engines are available to choose from. A lot has been added to the Base equipment useful options, here are just a few of them: three-zone climate control, leather interior trim, keyless entry system, navigation in Russian, entertainment system for rear seat passengers and many others. The price of this configuration of the Cadillac SRX starts at 2,489,000 and 2,590,000 rubles for different types of engines.

Despite its advanced age, Cadillac still looks quite fresh and stylish. It seems to be carved from a single piece of granite or metal: the silhouette of the crossover is athletic and muscular. Judge for yourself: even 20-inch wheels are buried in huge wheel arches.

The interior of the SRX is, of course, angular, but this angularity is even elegant and courageous in its own way. A new display has appeared on the dashboard, which can display up to three different indicators simultaneously. When driving actively, you can accidentally touch the function buttons, but this does not happen very often. The USB connectors, of which there are two, can also be used to charge smartphones, which is very, very convenient.

Cadillac User Experience (CUE) has a desktop similar to smartphones, where you can rearrange applications to suit your taste. The multimedia system, by the way, supports gesture control, so you can “swipe” a track from one to another, and you can enlarge the navigator map with two fingers. The sensor, however, is somewhat thoughtful, but the outdated processor is to blame for this. The center console has also become touch sensitive, from which climate control and seat ventilation can be adjusted.

There is enough space inside the Cadillac, you can arrange it in the way that is most convenient for you. The seats have good lateral support, which is very useful when cornering vigorously. The rear seats are also spacious, with plenty of room in front of your knees. Entertainment system monitors are mounted in the backs of the front seats and have their own climate control unit. Bose acoustics, by the way, in addition to its main task, also engages in active noise reduction, so that extraneous sounds in the cabin are almost inaudible.

The Cadillac's engine is quite powerful, but this power is somewhat “eaten up” by the not very efficient automatic transmission. Even in Sport mode, the box thinks for a long time before upshifting. But when the gear is upped, the car gains excellent acceleration, clearly not feeling a lack of power. The SRX's handling is also excellent. The independent suspension corners confidently and holds its trajectory perfectly, which is very strange for American cars that are prone to “rolling.” Road irregularities are smoothed out well, asphalt grain is not felt at all, but significant irregularities are still felt in the cabin, but this is not particularly annoying.

What happened in the end? GM presented us with a solid crossover with excellent suspension, a powerful engine and decent handling. If you get used to the slowdown sensors, then Cadillac will have no disadvantages at all, so we hope that in the future this drawback will be eliminated. Restylings, apparently, are only beneficial for the American car. The latest improvement, for example, brought many additional options and systems that not all classmates have. It’s also nice that on average the Cadillac SRX is about half a million cheaper than its competitors from the big German three.

Competitors

It just so happens that when choosing a Cadillac, buyers often compare it with another premium crossover - the Lexus RX 350. Although the cars are similar, they are designed to satisfy different needs, which we will talk about later. The appearance of the crossovers is clearly contrasted: the rectangular and hewn Cadillac against the rounded and smooth Lexus. Vertical headlight covers versus traditional horizontal lighting technology. It's a matter of taste, nothing can be done. But almost everyone admits that in profile the SRX looks fresher and more muscular than its competitor.

The Lexus salon literally breathes luxury and sophistication, it’s hard to even imagine who might be uncomfortable here. Here even on the screen multimedia system there are no fingerprints left, so from this alone you can get an impression of the quality of the crossover's interior design. For Cadillac, things are again somewhat different. We have already talked about the general chiseling and internal space SRX, so you can imagine the contrast with the Lexus' refinement. Cadillac also has plenty of comfort and convenience, and for long trips, the crossover from GM is no less convenient than a Lexus. However, the leather trim on the RX looks more expensive, and the driver's seat has fully electronic adjustment and a greater number of different settings. So, in Lexus, the front seats can be both cooled and heated.

Cadillac is generally cheaper than Lexus, which is undoubtedly a plus, but even with all additional options The SRX will not be more comfortable than the RX 350.

The Lexus engine is somewhat more powerful and has more torque, while being somewhat more economical and environmentally friendly power plants on a Cadillac. The Lexus drives faster and accelerates out of corners more actively, and the suspension doesn’t feel bumps as much. But going through a series of turns and generally driving along the highway is more interesting in a Cadillac. You will always stand out from the traffic, maintaining dynamics and passion.

Oddly enough, Lexus looks too perfect, so someone might like the drive of driving a Cadillac. The pleasant ratio of ride and control dynamics hides shortcomings in appearance, and the SRX’s hardware, whatever you say, is simply magnificent.

I will try to briefly describe this car: compared to the previous model SRX I (I drove it for a year and a half), it is definitely a step forward in terms of ergonomics, compared to its German classmates - on par. The seat and steering wheel in the Cadillac SRX easily adapt to you, all controls are conveniently located, and instrument information is easy to read. Visibility suffers due to the wide A-pillars and narrow rear window, but the video camera (implemented perfectly in the SRX II) and parking sensors help. Dynamics is at “4”, that is, unfortunately, the engine is not enough at the “lower” levels, hence I would like more elasticity. Compared to the SRX 4.6, there are definitely fewer speakers, despite the lower weight and similar fuel consumption - approximately 19 liters of the 95th versus 22 liters of the 92nd. Otherwise - 265 hp. enough to easily overtake on the highway and start from traffic lights faster than the flow, but nothing more. The brakes on the Cadillac SRX are excellent, which is a good thing. Handling is almost car-like, but a higher center of gravity cannot be ruled out. Cross-country ability - “4” for the city, “3” for the countryside. Comfort - “5+”. Excellent ride quality, sound insulation and climate control. At the Mercedes level. He doesn’t notice the joints even on 20 discs, the waves of asphalt are also great. The only things that upset us about the climate were the long warm-up of the front seats, the lack of heating in the rear seats and the lack of ventilation in the front ones. It seems to me that at present these are already relatively inexpensive options for the manufacturer premium cars they should have been added to the database.

Overall, the Cadillac SRX exceeded my expectations, primarily in terms of handling. Handles like a CTS car. On the second day after the purchase, I decided to take a ride around New Riga, smoothly accelerated to 160 and realized that you can hold the steering wheel with two fingers, there is no need to catch the car, there is no swaying, no ruts. On the same day, I went “extreme” on a more expensive forest curve - roll is minimal, the Cadillac SRX steering wheel is perfectly controlled (though Feedback not so hot). The machine is equipped with magnetic stands by default. This apparently plays a role. In general, the first meeting turned out to be pleasant. The 3-liter engine, of course, does not move, but overall the dynamics are not disgraceful. Of course, you can forget about fun starts at traffic lights. The lack of dynamics is also felt during prolonged overtaking. According to the passport, 8.4 seconds to 100. There are no brakes, like on all Cadillacs, but there were fewer of them on the CTS, although the car was lighter. The low beam is flawless, but the high beam is weak. If we compare it with the CTS I as a whole (the SRX I is built on its basis), then technically and in terms of minced meat “a cut above.” It would take a long time to describe all the stuffing, but I will say that the basic configuration includes leather, voice control, navigation, remote start, rotating bi-xenon, 20-radius wheels, 20 GB hard drive, BOSE music. The interior is much better than the squeaks and crickets I haven’t noticed in 3 months of ownership, the sound insulation is very good.

What can I say - I bought a Cadillac SRX for my wife (I have an Infiniti FX35), well, I wanted something like that. I looked at a bunch of cars and decided to take a Cadillac, although a week before I was sure that Cadillacs were big and long, like in old Hollywood films. So I’ll say frankly - Infiniti is “no ice” in comparison. I took my wife’s car, now I drive a Cadillac SRX, she drives an Infiniti and everyone is happy. Gentlemen, you can’t buy so many options for that kind of money anywhere, that’s for sure. Pros: The suspension is fantastic. We have a 70 km section of road here where there is practically no road (winter road). I drove at a speed of about 110 -110 km/h, it never jumped, did not rattle, did not knock - I could only hear the wheels working the road. You go and have fun. Controllability is at the level - all systems from anti-skids, anti-skids and other directional stability systems work as you want. Although it doesn’t take much intelligence for a car to be carried away. And so, with competent piloting, it is almost impossible, and the operation of all these systems is inaudible (not like on an Infiniti - everything crackles and squeaks). The brakes are fine. Behind the wheel of the Cadillac SRX you sit as if in the cockpit - everything glows. In general, it makes a pleasant impression. I took the Cadillac SRX to its fullest potential: glass roof, DVD for children, leather, minimal plastic everywhere, leather panel plus wood, pedals are adjustable with a button. The headlights turn and that's not all. In general, I'm very pleased.

Good day. Year Cadillac ownership 2010 SRX. I bought the car with a mileage of 100 thousand km. At first I was happy with the car. Excellent interior leather trim, a bunch of options, good handling. The downside is that the brakes are terrible for such a heavy car, so I always kept my distance in front of the car in front. The problems started at 110 thousand km. A “check” came out, went to the service center, where I was “sentenced” to replace the chains. The operation is not cheap and cost me about 50 thousand rubles. + did the maintenance right away. Literally after 3000 km the check came out again, service, they ordered replacement of the catalysts (2 catalysts cost about 100 thousand rubles). I found who installed the decoys (the cost of the work was about 30 thousand rubles). At the same time, the “rear axle service” error appeared. The bridge was repaired at a service station for 70,000 rubles. In general, for less than 15,000 km, I invested in Cadillac repair SRX almost 200 thousand rubles. I decided not to tempt fate and sold this American miracle.

I will compare the Cadillac SRX with the Subaru Tribeca. Pros. This is a premium car - even the panel on top, where the airbags are, is covered in leather - this is very rare to see. The aluminum inserts are truly aluminum, not plastic. Lighting is something - it is everywhere, even along the contour of the cabin - for beauty. The huge multimedia and navigation screen that slides out is super. In terms of behavior compared to the Subaru, at first it seems that it is not moving (although there are more horses), but this is a deceptive feeling. It’s just that if the Subaru happily jumps from speed to speed with jerks, the Cadillac SRX very sedately changes speeds so that the driver does not bother counting them, but simply turns the steering wheel, directing the car where he wants. By the way, the 2-ton car handles just wonderfully - like a glove when cornering, despite the far from ideal road conditions. Clearance - well, how to say. It allows you to park backwards just like a Subaru, but not so much in front. Here's the first minus. If I managed to get into basically serious “places” with a Subaru, I won’t even try to match the tone of the Cadillac SRX. For in front it is simple passenger car. The second minus is that, like any American, the Cadillac SRX loves to eat. If on the highway the appetite is still here and there (from 10 to 11.5 liters), then in the city, with a driving style of “super comfort” - 20 liters, “sport” - from 24 and above. Here you can get under 30 if you “sink your slipper into the floor.” Well, for comparison, Subaru is clearly not the leader in economy, but on the highway I didn’t eat more than 9, and in the city it was 13-16. In general, a large tank is not a luxury here, but a necessity. But buying such a car, in principle, it is a sin to kill yourself with the price of gasoline. What’s also pleasing is that it contains everything that the foreign auto industry has come up with over the past 10 years. Well, maybe there aren’t some very recent innovations, such as projection onto Windshield and autopilot. There is something there that is in Odnoklassniki, and for much more serious money, even in the form of options, in principle, there is no option. And it works, because it is necessary in normal Russian and Russian understands it normally. In general, to summarize, the Cadillac SRX is for respectable people who value comfort and status. Excellent acoustics - I don’t remember how many speakers and buffers there are, but the Bose sounds excellent.

I took a new car from the dealership and my first service visit took place 4 months later. Change of oil. As it turned out later, the oil needs to be changed every 300 hours. This is exactly how the oil life sensor works. For Moscow, with an average speed of 20 km/h, this means changing the oil every 6000 km. The next point that unpleasantly surprised me was the expense. If according to the passport it is 12 liters in the city, then the expectation was that when driving from work to work it would be 18 liters. In reality it turned out to be 22 liters in summer and 24 liters in winter. For the sake of experimentation, I accelerated very smoothly for a couple of weeks, braked minimally and did not drive faster than 60 km/h - 18 hp. Six months later, the heater motor whistled and it took the dealer about 9 months to discover this problem and about 5 calls from me. As it turned out, this is the norm. But they changed it under warranty. Another point is the rear view mirror. Given my height of 180 cm, I had to change my usual sitting position to a lying position so that I could use the rearview mirror. And this is very important, because... despite 270 horses, the Cadillac SRX reacts to pressing the gas pedal very smoothly and therefore, when changing lanes, you have to look very carefully in the rearview mirror. Unlike some previous generations, such as the 2005 Cadillac SRX, the new car has a more luxurious and stylish interior. At the same time, the ergonomics of the crossover leaves much to be desired: the steering wheel is adjustable only in tilt, which is quite inconvenient, since, being in extreme positions, it blocks dashboard. Also, manufacturers have not really thought through the placement of buttons on the control panel: climate control data is displayed in the center, and the key itself, which is responsible for the temperature regime, is located at the bottom.

The crossover interior still remains five-seater. Manufacturers have worked hard on sound and noise insulation of the car. In addition, the new modification has a feature that is extremely useful in hot weather - a ventilation system equipped with additional cooling.

The new Cadillac SRX model is equipped with effective airbags built into both the front and side compartments. There are also side curtains. The developers also took care of child seats, for which there are special clamps. Door locks automatically lock when moving. Compartments for storing many small and useful items were placed on the door trim and on the backs of the seats.

The salon is quite wide, the seats seem quite flat and, at first glance, not very comfortable. However, this is not true at all! Passenger seats have become much more comfortable and even more spacious. But due to this kind of increase, the volume of the luggage compartment has decreased significantly.
