New Infiniti QX50 - test drive ZR. New Infiniti QX50 - test drive ZR Character - changeable

Price: n. d. On sale: from mid-2018

In Los Angeles, where we flew in for a test drive, it is sunny, plus 25 Celsius and 5 o'clock in the afternoon. At this time there is snow in Moscow, minus 13 degrees and 4 o'clock in the morning. Struggling with acclimatization and sleep in every possible way, I am trying to concentrate on the press conference dedicated to the new generation QX50. Global Product Director Nicholas Chan spends most of his talk on the car's design, which is unsurprising. The appearance of the previous QX50 (formerly EX35) raised a lot of questions among me and my colleagues: bulky, disproportionate, with low ground clearance... A kind of hatchback that ate bacon burgers after six in the evening.

The fifth door opens with a wave of the foot, but can only be closed with a button.

The new QX50 is radically different: elegant compared to its predecessor, harmonious and interesting compared to its main competitors such as the angular Lexus RX and the unmemorable Audi Q5. Fully LED optics with signature “ice cubes” in front, a moderately massive radiator grille, sharp wave-like folds on the hood, smoothly flowing into a deep belt line. By the way, it is a subject of special pride: a 30-degree bend and deep recesses behind door handles- one of the most complex textures in automotive industry, which is produced by deep molding. The image is completed by the ground clearance increased from 165 to 218 mm.

With the change of generation, the “fifty” moved to a completely new modular platform, designed for anterior and all-wheel drive models with McPherson struts at the front and independent multi-link at the rear. According to unofficial data, people from Mercedes-Benz even had a hand in its development. Let me remind you that the predecessor was based on a rear-wheel drive trolley. Body torsional rigidity has increased by 23%, mainly due to the use of high-strength steel. Aluminum was used in the production of body panels.

The only element of the body that has not changed with the change of generation is the side mirrors.

You feel the positive result of the change in architecture immediately as soon as you find yourself in the cabin: the car has become much more spacious, despite the fact that the length and wheelbase have been reduced by 54 and 81 mm, respectively. The height from the seats to the roof has increased, the legroom for rear passengers has increased, and the interior has become wider at shoulder and hip level.

IN rear doors Mechanical sunblinds are integrated.

In practice, this means that I had no problem sitting on the back sofa, which moves on a “sleigh,” having previously adjusted the seat in front to suit my 187 centimeters of height. There is nothing to say about the large leather front seats with pronounced lateral support and ventilation: a little fiddling with the electrical adjustments, and you can go for a run. In the versions that will be sold in Russia, they promise winter package: heated seats, steering wheel and heated windshield.

The trunk now holds 880-1048 liters when loaded under the roof, depending on the position rear seats. With the second row folded into the floor – 1823 liters. But this is for modifications shod with a 20-inch run-flat 255/45. Cars with 235/55R19 tires will be subject to additional rolling, which will eat up a small part of the trunk, but exactly how much has not yet been announced.

The interior design is unique, with an abundance of high-quality leather and suede. The interior can be ordered in black or beige. If you want something a little more exotic, there's the top-end Autograph version: diamond-patterned seats, light beige leather with white stitching contrasting with brown leather and blue suede inserts. Looks expensive, but...

But then the eye stumbles upon plastic “Nissan” power window keys and steering column switches. It doesn't seem to be a big deal, but general impression spoils a little. However, even with them, the interior of the new crossover no longer leaves the aftertaste that you are sitting in a Nissan, albeit with an Infiniti badge on the steering wheel.

The worst thing about the second-generation QX50 is the dual-touch 8-inch and 7-inch stacked multimedia system, which hasn't changed since it debuted on the Q50 sedan in 2013. The graphics rendering is weak, the responsiveness to touch is like that of a brick, and as soon as the sun gets into the cabin, the top display goes blind. One good thing is that the sensor is duplicated by a “puck” under the driver’s right hand in the manner of BMW and Mazda.

Some complaints about the navigation system: slowdowns and piling up of icons with information on top of the map force you to take out your smartphone after 15 minutes and turn on Google Maps. By the way, there is no Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. But there is a cool optional Bose Performance Series audio system with 17 speakers. Tested in the evening traffic jams of Los Angeles, where even cops drive with the windows open, arms out to the elbows... At least it’s good that without a Colt.

The new Infiniti QX50 has a couple of tricks up its sleeves besides its design. One of them is a two-liter petrol “four” VC-Turbo with automatic change of compression ratio, proving that it is too early to say goodbye to the internal combustion engine. When greater output is required from the engine, for example during sudden acceleration, the electronics, using a system of levers and rocker arms, changes the position of the upper dead center, reduces the compression ratio to 8:1, and with uniform movement, on the contrary, increases it to 14:1 for the sake of more efficient fuel consumption. In this case, the engine displacement varies from 1970 to 1997 cm3.

The process occurs smoothly and completely unnoticed by the driver and passengers. Moreover, in top support The engine integrated the Active Torque Rod (ATR) active vibration suppression system, which made the engine much quieter.

The innovative “turbo-four” is not only lighter and more compact than the 2.5-liter V6 with which its predecessor was equipped, but also much more powerful: 272 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque versus 222 horsepower and 252 Nm. In addition, the motor is more economical: declared average consumption fuel is 9 liters per 100 km. In fact, this is exactly what turned out to be the case. It is difficult to say for sure how reliable the VC-Turbo will be in operation. But the company says that more than 100 prototypes have been tested and a total of about 5 million kilometers have been driven.

The torque is absorbed by the X-Tronic CVT variator with an imitation of eight stages. The CVT has been significantly upgraded with a new torque converter, electric oil pump and control valve block, which provides a direct connection between pressing the gas pedal and engine response. At first I was not happy with the electronic transmission selector: I have too vivid memories of the carelessly configured analogue that Maserati uses. But the QX50 put my fears to rest. The gears are engaged clearly, simply and quickly, not to mention the fact that it looks more harmonious in the interior than the locking “poker” of its predecessor. The plug-in all-wheel drive system with an electromagnetic multi-plate clutch, if necessary, transfers to rear axle up to 50% traction.

The QX50 accelerates vigorously, with a quiet, rather pleasant rumbling coming into the cabin from engine compartment. The dynamics are good. Of course, it doesn’t take your breath away, but no one is positioning the QX50 as a sports car. Hundred all-wheel drive crossover picks up in 6.3 seconds and stops accelerating at 230 km/h. The front-wheel drive version is 0.4 seconds slower. But here it is worth noting that this is data for European and American modifications. The QX50 will reach Russia derated to 250 horsepower, and its performance in the sprint is still unknown.

The main thing is that on the way to Russia the QX50 does not lose its controllability. The crossover stays composed in turns, practically does not roll or sway after passing through high-speed highways. In sports mode, on serpentines, of which there are plenty in the mountains in the Malibu area, you want to drive the QX50 with all your money, licking the apexes. Thank you very well tuned adaptive shock absorbers with valve regulation. Is it true, strict restrictions speed and severe fines in the event of an encounter with the police quickly cool the ardor.

At the same time, the suspension handles small holes, bumps and cracks well. Only contacts of 20-inch “runflat” with sharp joints or carelessly applied patches make their way into the cabin with dull blows. Unfortunately, it was not possible to try the crossover off-road. Everywhere you look there is private property.

The aerodynamic drag coefficient was reduced by 10% to 0.32.

The electronic adaptive steering system (DAS 2.0), which is equipped with the top versions of the Infiniti QX50, adds comfort in the usual relaxed mode of driving around the city, leveling out unpleasant vibrations. But in sport mode, the steering wheel is artificially overweight, and upon returning to the zero zone, at a certain moment it suddenly becomes empty.

Another trump card of the new QX50 is the Propilot Assist driver assistance system. Using radar and a camera, the electronics can keep the car in its lane, recognize pedestrians, track cars in adjacent lanes, and brake in case of emergency situation, keep your distance, and also move behind another car after a complete stop. The latter, alas, in Russian versions will be unavailable.

Prices are currently available only for the USA, but you should not rely on them. The company promises to try to fit the basic versions into a psychological 3 million rubles, and the top ones into 4 million. At the same time, the equipment of the starting versions of Pure for Russia cannot be called poor: plug-in all-wheel drive, all-diode optics, chip key, multimedia with two touchscreens, winter package , dual-zone climate control, electric tailgate, 19-inch wheels, six-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, 8 airbags and, of course, Glonass.

The QX50 crossover enjoys the greatest attention among women. We took him for a test to figure out why exactly “fifty” attracts women with above-average income

With a similar style to the “older” crossover FX, the “fifty” is more compact and squat. This is partly why Infiniti marketers classify it not as a crossover, but in the Sport Utility Coupe segment, and women consider it a worthy addition to their wardrobe.

In 2013 QX50 current generation replaced the EX model, for which Russian market all-wheel drive, an initial 2.5-liter 222-horsepower “six” (EX25) and a top-end 3.7-liter 333-horsepower V6 (EX37) were provided. Today our dealers also offer this car only with all-wheel drive, but only in the initial 222-horsepower version. The transmission also has no alternative - a 7-speed automatic transmission. In our opinion, this approach fully meets the needs of the female audience. After all, the version with the top 333-horsepower “aspirated” engine (a test report on it is presented in “Autopanorama” No. 3 2011), frankly speaking, is too restive and hot for most ladies. But the 222-horsepower QX50 - and our test driver Eva Motornaya was convinced of this - is just what the average female customer of the brand needs.

Tight to tucked

For Eva Motornaya, the most important thing is that the car looks bold and expensive: “The QX50 is not one of those cars about which they say, “Oh, how cute!” At the same time, on the one hand, she has charm, and on the other, an authoritative air. It’s not for nothing that this car is always missed on the road!”

I inform Eva that the new generation crossover was developed with an eye to American and European markets, hence the design without obsessive oriental motifs. This approach is to the taste of the motor, although it seems that the headlights of the car are still made in the Asian style - large, round and for some reason without LED decorations. “You expect a little more modern status features from a car that costs more than 2 million rubles,” she complains.

But our test pilot is ready... to settle down in the cabin of the Japanese car. “I would compare this car to the character from the movie Iron Man,” says my test partner. - She sat behind the wheel - it was like she was pulling on a tight suit. I think this feeling arises from the powerful curves of the front panel and the impressive support of the seats. And inside the “fifty” it’s not boring. For example, the instrument lighting is in all the colors of the rainbow, in the center is an analog watch with a stylized strap. The interior and carpets are light beige, very nice, although not particularly practical.”

We also recommend test drives of competing cars

And then there’s one more purely feminine remark. “I think any woman would appreciate being at the helm here electronic tuning“You probably can’t hurt a manicure!” Motornaya emphasizes. In her opinion, the feeling of chic characteristic of a premium brand is manifested in the Infiniti QX50 in the smallest details. “Just listen to what a noble “smack” the doors close here and what a clear sound “ speakerphone"! And the driver’s seat has a memory for two positions - one for me, the second for my husband, it’s convenient. But what I definitely miss here is a heated steering wheel. Strange for such a brand. And I would also make more places for small things, otherwise I was looking and looking for where to put the phone, and I only managed to fit it in a small compartment for cup holders.”

Personal space

It's no secret that many QX50 owners complain about the lack of space in the cabin, especially in the back row. However, Motornaya believes that there is plenty of space in the car for a family of two or three people: “On the weekend, the five of us went to visit relatives. The tallest passenger was seated in the front seat, while the rest were perfectly seated in the back and did not complain about cramping. The trunk, however, is not of outstanding size, but its capacity for various purchases from the supermarket is quite enough. I also like that the trunk floor is not “trough”, but almost flush with the top of the bumper. This makes it much more convenient to get large things. I will also give a plus for the fact that the rear seats are easy to fold - there is a special button in the luggage compartment. But the fact that this model does not have an electric drive for the fifth door is annoying. I would be happy to exchange the existing sunroof for this option.”

Nevertheless, Eva finds the Infiniti QX50 very comfortable and a practical car: “When you open the driver’s door, it feels like it’s going to be a bit cramped inside, especially if you’re wearing heels. But it turns out - nothing like that. Here almost everything is like in classic crossover: I sit high - I look far, the visibility is excellent, especially since there is a rear view camera, and the mirrors are huge. It's also good that there are parking sensors front and rear. In general, even just sitting in this car is a thrill. Firstly, there is a very powerful stove, and the audio system is a music lovers' dream. There is navigation, cruise control, air ducts for back row. But the ground clearance could be higher; when parking you have to look both ways so as not to catch the curb.” Indeed, the QX50's ground clearance is low - only 149 mm, like most sedans and station wagons that are not adapted for Russia.

I'm becoming a racer

When it comes to the handling and driving pleasure of this “Japanese”, Motornaya does not skimp on compliments: “In my opinion, the character of this crossover is consistent with its appearance. For me, the most important thing is that the car is responsive, but not harsh, the steering wheel is easy to turn, which for me personally is a plus - it’s more convenient to park. But, perhaps, what I especially like is how smartly this car corners and how confidently it holds on high speed. The most interesting thing is that with such sporting qualities it also remains comfortable - there is no shaking, no street noise is heard in the cabin, the automatic transmission works smoothly, clearly and quickly. If you want to be even more agile, you can swing the handle to the left - this turns on the “sport” mode. In short, there is just as much sport in the QX50 as I need.”

I remind Eva that in our market the QX50 can only be had with all-wheel drive. In normal mode, the ATTESA E-TS transmission with electromagnetic coupling transmits all the torque to the rear axle, while the front one is connected when slipping rear wheels or, for example, during a sharp start and in fast turns. According to Motor, all-wheel drive for this model is Russian conditions it’s hard to overestimate: “I don’t have any problems when I need to drive through a yard that hasn’t been cleared of snow, park next to a snowdrift, or climb a slippery slope. However, at speed, if the road is covered with snow or ice, the car behaves a little nervously. It’s good that in such a case it has an excellent assistant: you press the Snow key, and the crossover stops yaw when accelerating.”

Finally we come to the key issue - price. For the initial Infiniti version QX50 Russian dealers today ask for 2,060,000 rubles. At the same time, the price tags of the main opponents - BMW X3 and Audi Q5 - show 2,440,000 and 2,420,000 rubles, respectively. It would seem that the numbers speak for themselves - the “Germans” are noticeably more expensive. However, according to Motornaya, the price difference is in this case not so important. After all the target audience premium-segment cars look more at the image rather than the price tag, but the QX50 is okay with this. At least Eva is confident that potential customers will agree with her.

What do Zhiguli and Granta have in common? Market segment, and nothing more. This example kept playing in my head both when I met it at the Los Angeles Motor Show and during a test drive two months later. Having saved the index, compact crossover changed completely with the change of generation. Absolutely. Radically. The creators of the car clearly left the old exterior rear-view mirrors not for reasons of economy - but as an “Easter egg”.

Character - changeable

Few have been reshaped as much as the “fifty”. Instead of a rear-wheel drive platform - front-wheel drive, instead of a longitudinal engine - transverse, instead classic slot machine- CVT, instead of aspirated engines - a revolutionary turbo engine. I'll start with him.

Above the engines with variable degree compression has been working in different parts of the world for decades. But the Infiniti brand was the first to come up with a serial implementation. The two-liter VC-Turbo four smoothly changes the compression ratio from 8.0 to achieve maximum power up to 14.0 - for minimal fuel consumption. In the latter case, the engine operates according to the economical Atkinson cycle.

The real savings have yet to be assessed, and we will certainly look into this a little later. And in the Los Angeles area, the terrain is too varied to talk about the car's appetite. But there are no complaints about powerful acceleration. Especially against the background, the 222-horsepower 2.5 engine accelerates to hundreds in an obscene 9.5 seconds in the premium segment.

IN normal mode Thanks to the control electronics, the turbo engine becomes a little more cheerful after 3500 rpm, but even before this limit the acceleration cannot be called sluggish. Go to sport mode accompanied by a more active movement of the tachometer needle, more loud sound engine and a slightly heavier steering wheel - but these are pure decorations, there is no real effect behind them. Having played enough with the switch (there is also an “eco” mode, in which the QX50 becomes a “vegetable”), I forgot about it until the end of the trip.

Automatic transmission for a powerful transverse engine Renault-Nissan Alliance No. I had to settle for something that wasn't very suitable. premium car CVT. The unit is thoroughly modernized, with eight virtual gears. And I liked him! It thinks quickly, so there is no need to click the steering wheel paddles. The “adaptive” engine also makes a significant contribution - they have complete mutual understanding. And the Japanese assured me that they were aware of the complaints about CVTs of previous generations and that all the problems had been solved.

Life position - active

The steering power is synthetic. It couldn’t be otherwise, because the test cars are equipped with DAS 2.0 steering, without a mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the wheels. And why was it necessary to fence the garden if there are no advantages over the classical design? It’s good that DAS 2.0 will be offered at an additional cost and only for cars in the most expensive configuration.

A pleasant surprise was the way the QX50 takes turns. The roll is minimal, the car willingly follows the wheel, and even the standard tires, which are never sporty, maintain a groovy character. The QX50 will definitely please fans of active driving. He could use better seats: with a lack of lateral support, slippery leather is not the best solution.

I give one more compliment to the chassis. Run-flat tires measuring 255/45 R20, to my considerable surprise, did not turn the car into a bone shaker. The roads in California are not ideal in some places, but there are no problems: the suspension handles hard junctions of overpasses, small holes and cracks perfectly. I didn't regret the big wheels at all. And the bulk of the cars will be sold in simpler versions, with 19‑inch tires and even without reinforced sidewalls(these are subject to dokatka), which will be softer.

By the way, there may not be an adaptation of the suspension for Russia. The ground clearance of the QX50, even in the American specification, is 218 mm (the predecessor had an undignified 165 mm).

The inner world is multifaceted

The Infiniti QX50 drives pleasantly, but in some places the feeling of premium is completely absent. The first and main complaint is about the multimedia system. Let's leave aside the strange solution with two LCD displays in the center, of which the top one is only needed to display the navigation map and images from the cameras. In terms of graphics and performance, the complex was hopelessly behind its competitors. And it's inconvenient to use. I hope Infiniti understands where to focus its efforts in the near future.

The plastic in the cabin is extremely hard, but it is used in places that the human hand usually does not touch. Everything else is covered in leather and suede. It looks beautiful, although the stitches are a little off-kilter in places.

I was entrusted with a car with the most luxurious interior trim package. I don’t presume to say that simpler configurations (especially the basic one) will make an equally pleasant impression.

The Infiniti QX50 has been and, I’m sure, will remain the brand’s bestseller in Russia (27.6% of sales at the end of 2017). But its place among competitors directly depends on the price. Dealers sell the old “fifty” at very sweet prices, about 700-800 thousand cheaper than their direct competitors. But everything is clear with her - age. The successor will no longer become the hero of an attraction of unheard-of generosity. The “base” will probably cost around three million, and top equipment- about four.

The release of the new product on the Russian market is planned for the middle of the year. And we will definitely test her against representatives of Germany, Sweden and Japan.

A massive presentation of the new Japanese crossover Infiniti QX50 took place in December this year in Los Angeles at the auto show. In the review, we will look at the main characteristics of the car - design, interior, components, photos and cost.

updated 2018 Infiniti QX50

The modernization of the crossover has brought some significant changes: cozy salon, the body changed its shape and dimensions, and the ergonomics of the engine improved. New body Constructed from durable steel.

At the front there is a voluminous radiator grille, and on the sides there are headlights equipped with LEDs. In general, the bumper of the new Infiniti Q X 50 has massive dimensions and a serious appearance.

On the side of the body there are ribs and voluminous wheel arches designed for wheels with 235/55 R19 and 255/45R20 tires. From the rear, the appearance of the crossover is striking in its organic nature and creates a completely harmonious picture. There's a door here luggage compartment and the parking lights look organic. At the bottom there are exhaust pipes of an interesting design.

The design style of the car confirms its attitude towards the Premium class and can enter into healthy competition with famous brands– Audi, Mercedes, Lexus.

Infiniti QX 50 2018 - rear

The interior architecture of the new Infiniti has complete and high-quality equipment; time flies inside. Therefore, traveling long distances will not bring any inconvenience. Let's take a closer look interior design interior

Only high-quality materials are used for finishing - genuine leather, aluminum and steel. The interior decoration looks royally rich, it is safe and comfortable here.

In the center there is a console with two displays, each with its own function, the first is responsible for the navigation system, the second regulates multimedia option. The instrument panel also contains buttons – , which are used to control the entertainment system.

In the driver's area, in addition to the multifunction steering wheel, there are some required options– smartphone platform, control button multimedia system, cruise control, lighting and heating sensor.

In the interior of the Infiniti QX50 2018-2019 model year, it is very convenient to monitor the condition of the car; now the main indicators are located on a wide-format dashboard - speedometer, tachometer and fuel level in the tank.

The front seats have a sporty structure and are equipped with side bolsters and plenty of details for safety and comfort.
The second row of seats is a little more modestly equipped, but there is enough space in the upper and lower parts for three passengers.

Let us immediately note that the volume of the luggage compartment is small - 355 liters; when rear seats are transformed, the volume increases almost 4 times.

Regarding interior design, the proverb “everything ingenious is simple” fits perfectly; the interior contains a complete set necessary details, besides, everything is done at the highest level without unnecessary decoration.

IN Japanese crossover The basis is a new shortened platform from Nissan and, thanks to which the overall dimensions of the new Infiniti QX50 2018 body have changed. Let's look at the dimensions of the 2nd generation of the new product in more detail:
