Chery Chery historyThe automobile manufacturer Chery was founded in 1997 in Wuhu. Few people know that the company at the beginning of its development was a state-owned enterprise specializing in the production of engines for cars. In 2001, the first car of the company appeared, which, in terms of its technical parameters, was identical to the Seat Toledo. Over the next two years, the company's management is negotiating a license for the production of cars based on the SEAT model range. The first model was named "Amulet". The company then receives a large order for cars from the state, which are then used as taxis. After receiving a license from SEAT, the company produces the Amulet with sedan and liftback bodies. The interior of the vehicle does not change. These models are quickly sold in the CIS.
In 2003 the company showcases its new model called QQ. In terms of its external and internal characteristics, this car was similar to the Daewoo Matiz. The people call the model "sweet" and it becomes in demand. In 2005, at a car exhibition in Shanghai, the concern presents its S16 concept. The body design for the car is created by Italians. Then comes the Jaggi model, equipped with both a 1.1 and 1.3 liter engine. The retail price for the car is at the level of 10 thousand US dollars. In 2008, the QQ model is updated. He receives his signature design from a studio at Bertone.
Then the sales of the new Eastar model start, which the company practically copies from Daewoo Magnus. After the modification and a number of improvements, an upgraded version appears - the B11 Eastar, which clearly testified that expensive premium cars can also be created in China. Then the first SUV of the company, the Tiggo, appears, which painfully resembles the Toyota RAV4 in external design. This model was very popular due to its low cost.
When the Tiggo model appeared, Chery was already able to sell more than 500 thousand copies of cars. The company had about 400 branches around the world. Among the Chinese car manufacturers, Chery at that time occupied the 3rd place, this was achieved in a record time of 5 years. At the end of 2008, the company already produces 400 thousand cars a year, it is actively creating new test blocks and building new workshops.
2007: The company produces its own serial turbo engines for its cars. The power of the new engines reaches 170 horsepower. In the same year, the company will present a new model A6 Coupe, the serial production of which began the following year.
The company picks up production speed and demonstrates a new minivan - Riich 2. It consumes less fuel and has increased safety. The new models are shown at the Shanghai Exhibition, where the Fengyn II Coupe was shown to the public for the first time. She was going on the chassis of the Amulet. Throughout the year Chery presents a number of new cars - S12 and A18, the latter being a utility wagon. It is also built on the base of the Amulet.
In 2007, in the capital of Russia, a presentation of the company's new sedan - B21, was held, which then entered serial production. The creators focused on the reliability of the new car due to the installation of new side members. With the release of this model, the company wanted to change the attitude of the domestic buyer to cars from the land of the rising sun. It was in 2007 that the company presented the largest number of production vehicles and their prototypes.
2008: production of the new B22 model starts. Then, in 2010, an upgraded version of B23 is released. The 22 was presented as a hatchback, and the B23 was a coupe. The machines have received quite elegant features thanks to the work of professionals from the design company Bertone. In 2009, the company releases a new model Chery A13, which is the ideological successor to the outdated Amulet.
Chery cars are not particularly popular in the European and American markets, since they are generally not perceived in the West. Due to their low cost in the CIS, they are very popular, and despite the existing flaws in some models, the demand for them does not fall.
Chery Automobile Co., Ltd was founded in 1997 at the initiative of the city hall of Wuhu, Anhui Province, China, with five state-owned companies and holdings of this province as shareholders. Until now, 90% of the shares are owned by the state.
The first production base was the acquired equipment from the European Ford plant. And already on December 18, 1999, the first Chery car rolled off the assembly line, and less than ten years later, on August 22, 2007, the millionth was released.
Technologies of modern times
Chery Automobile has 6 car factories and 11 assembly plants around the world. The company also created a laboratory for its own R&D and testing in conjunction with the American company MTS Systems - the world leader in vehicle testing. MTS Systems products and research are used by companies such as Mercedes-Benz, General Motors, Ford, Volkswagen, Boeing and Airbus.
The project involves not only finding and applying the best engineering and manufacturing developments and testing programs for automotive components, but also training personnel. All this allows Chery to maintain a leading position in the export of cars in China.
Perfection in detail
Development is impossible in isolation, Chery management understands this very well and pays special attention to partner projects. Cooperation with the American companies Quantum and Chrysler, and with the Italian company Fiat contributes to the improvement of quality and work processes. Technological solutions are being improved thanks to partnerships with well-known design firms: the British Lotus Engineering, famous for the production of sports and racing cars, and the Japanese Mitsubishi Automotive Engineering. The breakthrough in design and comfort of many models is the result of collaboration with the design bureaus Bertone and Pininfarina from Italy. These companies worked with reference brands for the automotive market: Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati and many others.
DESIGN TEAM
Every car born in Chery is the work of the brand's design team. The brand design department is led by two directors James Hope and Hakan Sarajoglu, who have brought together a team of automotive experts from around the world with a common goal: to show the essence of the Chinese automotive industry.
To achieve this goal, Hope and Saracoglu developed a working system that is based on four pillars - proportion, branding, design and quality. Each of these principles has important implications. From the Chinese culture, which goes beyond the connection with the brand and seeks a deep understanding of what people are looking for in the understanding of the car, in order to appropriate, through design, cultural background and market trends, aiming to create models of international standards.
ANT 3.0 concept
The concept is Chery's answer to the problems of congestion and pollution in large cities. Initially introduced in 2012, the concept has been continuously improved, getting closer and closer to the production model. The car has a zero-emission electric motor powered by a wireless charging system and online telemetry. In late 2014, Chery unveiled a strategic alliance to the world by signing with Yongche Inc. (specializing in creating a platform for signing Internet services) and Pateo Corporation (a company that has successfully developed technology for autonomous vehicles) a partnership agreement. The alliance's mission is to create an intelligent vehicle out of the ANT Concept that will complement the ranks of sustainable public transport in major cities.
proportions
Chery focuses on the golden ratio. The solid lines, dynamic and symmetrical, yet energetic and graceful, give the impression that Chery models are always ready to launch. The design of the continuous side lines that accentuate the silhouette of each model is harmoniously combined with the striving front view. This way, by enhancing the effect of horizontal lines, the ideal proportion and unique appearance are achieved.
branding
Every established brand is born with a distinctive DNA. At Chery, DNA comes from elements of Chinese culture and its influence on international design throughout history. In addition, Chery's design work strives to provide commonalities in each model, integrating them into a family of products with its own spirit and character. To this end, the brand is working on two concept models: a Betha for the sedan and a model for the SUV variants. Both models have structural elements that seek to emphasize the beauty inherent in Chinese culture. Obviously, these will be various products that will form Chery's model range until 2021.
Chery TX concept
Winner for Best Concept Car at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and Auto Award Design 2012. This is the start of a new generation of brand products. Its lines are inspired by the forces of nature and water.
Chery strives to create not only a flawless appearance, but also strives to evoke the soul of each car, which expresses the strength and wisdom of the Chinese people.
Engines of the ACTECO family
There are many meanings of the word ACTECO, it can be understood in three meanings:
The first value is the designation of the engine's manufacturability. The first letter "A" refers to the Austrian company AVL, which claims that the place of its foundation is the Chinese province of Anhui; the second letter "C" stands for China / Chery; the last two letters "CO" are the English abbreviation for "cooperation". Thus, the first meaning of the word ACTECO is an engine from the Austrian company AVL, located in the Chinese province of Anhui and cooperation within the framework of Chery Automobile Technology. AVL is one of the leading engine manufacturers in Europe and has a leading position in Germany supplying its products to renowned German car manufacturers. AVL technology together with Chery's boldness and audacity provide ACTECO a starting point.
acteco engine technology meets global standards for economy and energy saving to protect the environment
The second meaning of ACTECO has to do with design and performance. The letters "TEC" in the middle of the word stand for "technology"; the last three letters (ECO) stand for both economy and environmental protection); the last two letters (CO) are shorthand for cost / low-cost. The second meaning of the word ACTECO means that the engine technology meets the world standards of economy and energy efficiency for the protection of the environment. It is one of those products that will help reduce economic (low consumption) and social (emissions) costs.
ACTECO also focuses on the third meaning of the first letter "A", which expresses Chery's business philosophy: in the automotive industry (Automobile), the brave fight for the first place (A). And the first three letters "ACT" (action - action) are of great importance for Chery, because the company is developing its own approach to the automotive industry: no matter how contradictory the world is, the actions speak for themselves.
Chery is a young Chinese brand with ambitions
Today, the young Chinese company Chery can be called the largest independent car manufacturer in China. In addition, Chery is one of the fastest growing car brands in the world. The company's models are popular with buyers not only due to an affordable price, but also a fairly rich technical package.
Chery's start
In the late 90s of the last century, the industry in the Chinese province of Anhui was at a traditionally low level. In this regard, in 1997, the local administration of the town of Wuhu began to petition for the construction of an automobile plant in order to provide the region with new jobs. The plant was built, and several state-owned companies and holdings from Anhui province and several small investors became the shareholders of the new company. Initially, Chery was mainly engaged in the production of motors, which were later used to equip many cars of the brand. Having decided to pick up the pace of production, Cherry decided to start producing cars. To do this, the company purchased equipment from Ford for $ 25 million, and also acquired a license for the Toledo platform from Seat.
Car production started already in 1999. But Chery was not doing well with sales. In 2001, the first variation of a passenger car was released, which was a kind of Seat Toledo. The new product was named Chery Amulet. Due to the fact that the automaker was unable to obtain a license to sell its products throughout China for a long time, Chery cars were produced exclusively for the taxi fleet of their home province of Anhui. The redistribution of assets of state-owned companies, carried out by the Chinese government in 2001, helped to get out of this situation. As a result, the Shanghai company SAIC became the owner of 20% of all shares in Chery. SAIC's license allowed the automaker to sell its models throughout the PRC.
Chery's rapid development
In 2001, the company starts exporting its cars to Syria and becomes the first car manufacturer in China to enter the export market. A year later, Chery manages to obtain the international quality certificate ISO / TS 16949. In 2003, the company begins to supply its products to the Iranian market, expands its model range, and also builds an automotive research institute. In the same year, the QQ model came off the assembly line, which has an incredible similarity to the Daewoo Matiz, and soon an Oriental Son car (later renamed Chery Eastar) was released, which was very similar to the Daewoo Magnus model.
In 2004, the volume of the annual production of cars of the brand reached 200 thousand copies. In 2005 the company managed to sell 189.1 thousand Chery cars.
Intending to enter the American market, Cherry, in cooperation with the Austrian company AVL, begins to develop high-tech ACTECO engines of a new generation, and with the help of Bosch, creates a new transmission.
Despite its successes, the company has gained a bad reputation around the world for producing illegal copies of Daewoo models. The scandal that broke out forced the management of Cherry to try to find a compromise with the bankrupt Daewoo Motors, but these negotiations failed. The lack of a license did not prevent the company from continuing to produce former Daewoo cars, which led to the fact that at the end of 2004 GM filed a lawsuit. Despite the evidence base prepared by General Motors, clearly showing that it was from their cars that the image of Chery models was taken, the Chinese court still ruled in favor of the Chinese automaker. In the future, GM decided to abandon the claims, thereby preserving good relations with the KTR government and its business interests in this region.
In 2005, Chery opens its plant in Russia. A year later, the company significantly modernizes the Eastar model and renames it Chery B11 Eastar. A distinctive feature of the novelty was the use of expensive woods, chrome elements, leather in the decoration, as well as an excellent equipment. For several years, Cherry produced more than 500 thousand copies of its cars, opened more than 400 sales centers and became the leader in car production in China. By the end of 2007, the annual volume of auto production exceeded 400 thousand. In the spring of 2009, it became known about the creation of three brands: Rely, Riich and Karry (commercial vehicles).
In 2011, two models from the B-segment entered the Russian market: the Very hatchback and the IndiS compact crossover. The company worked on the development of new products together with Italian designers, which made it possible to make the appearance of the models in accordance with all modern trends.
In recent years, the company has not really pampered its fans with the release of completely new models, preferring to update existing cars, as well as develop concept cars.
Chery at present
The practice of recent years shows that having presented to the world a large number of illegal and not very popular car copies, the Chinese brand nevertheless decided to change its vector. Having enticed engineers and designers from leading car manufacturers, Chery began to create attractive and safe cars in a European style. It is possible that the next step of the company will be an attempt to enter the premium segment.
Chery was founded in 1997 by the Wuhu City Hall in Anhui Province. Several state-owned companies and holdings of the province, as well as small investors, became shareholders of the company. The production of the first cars was organized on Ford equipment, which the company purchased for $ 25 ml. The first car produced by the company in 1999 was the licensed Seat Toledo.
In 2001, during the directive redistribution of assets of state-owned companies, carried out by the PRC government, the Shanghai company SAIC became the owner of 20% of Chery Automobile shares. Chery was able to use the SAIC license to sell its vehicles throughout China. Note that before she could only sell cars on the territory of her province. In the same year, Chery began supplying its cars to Syria, and became the first Chinese auto exporter.
In 2003, Chery established its research and development department. In the same year, Chery signed an agreement with the Iranian SKT Group for the supply of components for the production of Chery cars in Iran.
In 2004, the company enters into a contract with the Cuban government to supply 1,100 Chery vehicles to Cuba. And by the end of the year, Chery's expansion is spreading to more than 24 countries of the world.
The beginning of 2005 was marked for the company by the launch of the first crossover, which was the Tiggo. And the export volume has already reached 1000 units. And in December, Chery establishes a subsidiary in Russia, which became the first subsidiary abroad. And already at the beginning of 2006, a contract was concluded with the Russian company Avtotor for the assembly of Chery cars in Russia, and in April the first car rolled off the assembly line.
At the beginning of the same year, another novelty of the company, Chery Fora, rolled off the assembly line in China. In general, 2006 was a very eventful year. In March, an agreement was signed with the Indonesian Indomobile Group to assemble Chery vehicles in Indonesia. In June, a similar agreement is signed with Ukraine. Along the way, agreements are reached on the sale of cars in Turkey and the start of car assembly in Egypt. Total sales of Chery engines in the USA exceed 5,000 units.
In March 2007, Chery became the leader with 44,568 monthly vehicle sales, surpassing FAW Volkswagen, Shanghai Volkswagen and Shanghai GM. For the first time, an independent Chinese auto manufacturer has broken into the lead in terms of monthly sales, beating such auto giants.
In July of the same year, the first Chinese minivan Riich II was launched on the domestic market.
And already in August, the millionth Chery car leaves the assembly line. Thus, Chery becomes the first car brand to achieve a production volume of 1,000,000 vehicles.
In 2010, Chery cars take part in the Dakar Rally and are ranked 28th and 29th.
In the spring of 2011, new models Bonus and Very appear on the Russian market. by the summer, 3,000,000 cars are on the assembly line of the plant. In the same year, Chery engines for the fifth time are included in the "Top 10" of the best engines in China.
The beginning of 2012 was also marked by the appreciation of the company and it is included in the "Top 10 Innovative Enterprises in China."

Russia is a country with a tough and harsh climate. Therefore, on domestic roads, there are often cars that are able to adapt and work in these conditions. A huge number of different crossovers and SUVs are presented on the Russian car market. The most popular among which is the model - Chery Tiggo.
This car is affordable and also has its advantages and disadvantages. Our compatriots and fans of this brand are interested in where Cherie Tiggo 2017 is collected for domestic roads? The fact is that this crossover is brought to us in Russia from China. There, the car is produced at an enterprise in Dalian (northeastern China). In our country, for some time, the twin brother of this model, the Vortex Tingo, was assembled in Taganrog at the TAGAZ enterprise. But, the plant did not function for a long time and went bankrupt.
Therefore, in the domestic market you can only purchase a purebred "Chinese". An interesting fact is that since the release of the car, it has not been updated for eight years. But, last year, the Chinese decided to upgrade this car model and present it in a completely new light. The manufacturer tried to change the car, but still, the features of its predecessors remained.
Interior and exterior of the crossover
If we compare the Cherie Tiggo salon of the latest generation with its predecessor, then everything here was done differently, so to speak, from scratch. The car is still designed to carry five passengers. New finishing materials are most noticeable, now there is no low-quality plastic and poor sound insulation. The Chinese used better materials and improved sound insulation at times. The quality of the finishing materials used for this car model is in no way inferior to the German quality.
Now you can proudly answer the question: where is Chery Tiggo produced? Since the car turned out to be a worthy competitor in its segment. Also, the cabin now has new seats with lateral support and adjustment. Right in the center is the dashboard, which includes a navigation system and a large multimedia center. All interior details are very well matched to each other. If the buyer wishes, he can order a car with leather or ordinary fabric upholstery. Now it is calm and quiet inside the car, since there are no more low-quality plastic elements here. Further on the appearance of the "Chinese". Note that the Tiggo model is the first car of the company, the design of which was developed from scratch. From now on, the Chinese do not copy the appearance from other German and European cars, they managed to create something of their own, and this pleases.
True, when creating the appearance of Cherie Tiggo, it was not without the help of Opel specialists, they helped to create a modern and original crossover. Experts are confident that such a move will allow the Chinese to attract more buyers to their brainchild. Thanks to its memorable and impressive exterior, the crossover can compete not only in the domestic but also in the global market.
The technical side
Where Cherie Tiggo is made plays an important role when buying a car. Especially often, this question is asked by our compatriots to dealers. This is quite normal, as the build quality matters to the Russians. The 2016 Cherie Tiggo crossover has become much larger in size compared to its predecessor. Now its dimensions are almost the same as those of the famous Land Rover SUVs and Volkswagen Tiguan. And so, the dimensions of the Tiggo: 4506 mm × 1841 mm × 1740 mm. But, even with the increase in size, the luggage compartment is small here.
Its volume is only 370 liters. This "Chinese" has an insignificant ground clearance - 16.3 centimeters. The car of this model is equipped with only one gasoline power plant. Chiggo has a 2.0-liter engine producing 139 horsepower. On the other hand, buyers have the opportunity to purchase a car with both manual and automatic gearboxes. It can be a five-speed "mechanics" or a stepless variator. The budget of this crossover is slightly reflected in its technical characteristics. It is known that the car has front-wheel drive, which is not always enough for off-road operation. The manufacturer took this moment into account, and promised that from this year, they will also produce front-wheel drive Tiggos for Russia.
It does not take much time to assemble Chery Tiggo 2016, since the process at the Chinese enterprise is fully automated. The new Chinese SUV will cost the Russians 650,000 rubles. For this price, the owner will receive a car with a good range of options. The basic equipment of the car includes:
- air conditioning
- front airbags
- ABS and ABD systems
- proprietary audio system
- power package
- rear parking sensors.
