Replacing fluid in the power steering - video

When buying a new or used car, you should understand that it requires constant maintenance. The power steering is no exception, in which you need to regularly change the fluid. If you run this question, the liquid will begin to darken, heat up, sometimes even a burning smell may appear in the cabin. With such symptoms, a breakdown of the power steering is simply inevitable, and repairs will cost a very large amount. Today we will tell you how to change the fluid in the power steering with your own hands, as well as a detailed video tutorial will be published.

Note that replacing the fluid in the power steering is quite simple, you can put it in one row in terms of complexity. You can perform the procedure in a garage, for this we need the following tools:

1. Power steering fluid. The quantity must be indicated in the technical documentation of your vehicle.
2. 20 cc syringe. It is with him that we will pump out the old liquid.
3. Container for waste liquid. A plastic bottle is ideal.

Recall that in the previous article we considered it with our own hands. Only here you can find out the basic aspects of replacing brushes, as well as watch video tutorials from professionals.

Do-it-yourself power steering fluid replacement

You can replace the liquid in the gur using 2 methods - this is a partial and complete replacement. First of all, I want to tell you about a partial replacement, it is simpler, but less effective.

Partial fluid replacement. To perform a partial replacement, we need to unscrew the lid of the tank, where the gur liquid is poured. We take a 20 cc syringe and pump out all the liquid, pour it into a plastic bottle. Fill a new one up to the mark on the tank, start the engine and turn the steering wheel. We approach again, unscrew the lid, pump out the old one and fill in the new liquid. Repeat this procedure until the desired result appears.

Complete fluid replacement. This procedure is more time consuming, but it will guarantee a 100% result.

Video. Replacing the fluid in the power steering

Procedure:

1. The first step is to take a jack and raise the front wheels so that they are in the air.

2. We unscrew the lid of the tank and, using a 20 cc syringe, pump out the power steering fluid.

3. Now you need to loosen the bolts on the hose clamps that lead to the fluid reservoir.

4. Disconnect the hoses from the fluid reservoir, then remove it altogether (we recommend flushing the reservoir before filling in new fluid).

5. We place the plastic bottle to the hose that goes from the steering rack to the fluid reservoir. In order for all the fluid to leave the system, you need to ask a friend to actively turn the steering wheel in different directions.

6. We insert a funnel to the second hose, which is led to the power steering pump (see photo).

7. We fix the hose with a funnel and fill it with new liquid. Here you need to ask a friend to sit behind the wheel or actively rotate it so that the new fluid is evenly dispersed throughout the system.

8. You need to fill in new liquid until a light (fresh) liquid flows from a hose that is inserted into a plastic bottle. I assure you that you will see the difference!

9. We return to the place the tank and hoses to it.

10. Fill the tank with new liquid up to spec. level, and do not forget to actively rotate the steering wheel.

11. It's time to start the engine, while still repeating the steering movements.

12. We turn off the engine, lower the wheels of the car and add fluid to the power steering reservoir to the desired level.

Everything is ready, the whole process took us about an hour. By doing everything yourself, you saved good money.
