Imported from Germany. Unlike the VW Golf 3, which I owned earlier, the 5th model has seriously matured and grown up. Being small Volkswagen car Golf V has the properties that I have seen in really "thoroughbred" cars - perfect brakes, dynamics and quite quiet engine(the question is not in seconds up to 100 km and “maximum speed”, but in everyday ease of use). There is plenty of space in the Volkswagen Golf V for both people and luggage. The cost of maintenance compared to previous models has increased by about 1.5 times (belts, filters, rollers, pump), but the overall feeling of the quality of the car has grown as a whole. The most serious and what I did not expect is that the suspension has become softer (215/55 R16 tires) and at the same time it is controlled very confidently, no buildup, wobbling on a bad road, I have no idea how they achieved this, but for me it’s better No need. By noise, perhaps, wind noise is noticeable, and there are practically no tires and road defects. Vibrations are also zero, neither the fifth point nor the hands (steering wheel and gearbox) are felt. It’s autumn now, the car warms up quickly, after half an hour the temperature hardly drops, the engine is warm (there is a suspicion that it will warm up in summer), but for winter it’s what you need. The arrow showing the fuel in the tank has no faith at all - it lies shamelessly. I assumed that the car would overheat in the summer (it quickly heated up in the winter) - it did not come true. In extreme heat, when driving at high speed, the ASR (desiring icon) lit up and burned a couple of times, it went away by itself when the engine was restarted. In high-speed turns (140 and more) it is necessary to make an allowance for soft suspension. The banks are small, but it does not follow the rails clearly, but with an outward shift. Excellent driving in a straight line at maximum speed. And it doesn't matter - smooth asphalt, waves or something like asphalt. The quality of the interior materials of the Volkswagen Golf V is at its best everywhere, except for the door handles, where they seem to be from another car - the top layer of plastic is treacherously peeling off. The same applies to the area around the radio. The air freshener attached to the grilles of the blowers, having spilled, instantly discolored part of the plastic of this very grille. Either the chemistry is so toxic, or the Germans saved on dyes.

If you want to "shoot" - switch to 4th or even 3rd gear and shoot forward like a bullet, spinning the engine up to 6000-6500 rpm. The operation of climate control does not affect the traction capabilities of the engine at all. You can almost not hold the steering wheel - this is done for you by an electric booster. It’s just a wonder another time how he manages to keep the car in a straight line on a track and with strong gusts of side wind. You don't have to roll at all. The ergonomics of the Volkswagen Golf V are excellent. It is convenient for everyone - both the driver and passengers. After a long trip, you get out of the car completely not tired. True, there is not enough adjustment of the lumbar support in the driver's seat - I will definitely buy the next car with this option. The interior of the Volkswagen Golf V is quite roomy, it fits more than my former VAZ “four”. The regular CD-receiver is very good and sounds much better than the JVC (by the way, not cheap), which was in the Zhiguli, and it's not even about the speakers. He doesn't lisp on any radio wave. The front speakers are enough for me (there are no rear speakers in my car, and they are useless - the sound from the rear is very distracting), the sound quality is very good. The climate control works well, but in the heat, during a long drive, it seems that the air ducts freeze over, and the chill blows less and less.

Advantages : excellent TSI engine. Excellent manageability. Good ergonomics and comfort.

That's for sure, there is no reason to laugh, everything is in place, everything is thought out. If there is a niche in the door, a bottle of water fits comfortably into it, all the pockets are thought out, and there are a lot of them. Armchairs tightly cover, and they do not get tired. Comfortable headrests. The armrest extends and there is an elevator. Neither "Opel" nor "Focus" has this, and other "classmates" that I went to. Soft plastic front and high-quality door upholstery. Sophistication in the details, even in the "Trendline" configuration: opened the doors - the light in the cabin turned on, went out - the car accompanies you with light for ten seconds. I didn’t turn off the dipped beam and the “foglights” - everything goes out by itself. Climate control is very good, probably the best in the class. The steering wheel of the Volkswagen Golf V is electromechanical, leather, coverage, ease of control, again five. The car is small and maneuvers well. In Amsterdam, I had the opportunity to evaluate all the most popular options - with 1.4 TSI engines with a capacity of 122 and 140 hp, as well as with a 2.0 TDI turbodiesel (150 hp, 320 Nm).

Huge luggage compartment! If you fold the rear sofa, then the amount of usable space is 1620 liters versus 1495 liters for the previous station wagon. By the way, the Golf hatchback has a trunk volume of 380-1270 liters. As for the Variant, only the platform platform is more practical in the class Skoda Octavia Combi (610-1740 l), but it is almost ten centimeters longer.

I first got a Golf Variant 2.0 TDI with a manual - the most sought-after modification in Europe. Quiet, peppy, economical and very high-torque diesel - peak 320 Nm is available from 1750 to 3000 rpm. He is not afraid and high speed- the red zone starts only after 5000 rpm. The diesel station wagon is 82 kg heavier than the hatchback, and therefore 0.3 s slower in acceleration from standstill to 100 km / h. However, I am ready to believe in the declared 8.9 s! In fourth gear, you can drive like an “automatic”, accelerating from 50 to 150 km / h. And now it is much more convenient to use the clutch - the electronics automatically raises the engine speed as soon as it feels the closing of the discs.

The interior is like a hatchback. In advanced trim levels (Comfortline and Highline), even more comfortable ErgoActive seats are available with adjustments in 14 directions, including with a cushion extension

The smoothness of the ride exceeded all expectations, especially in the Comfort mode of the DCC (Adaptive Chassis Control) active suspension - no worse than a decent business sedan! Alas, neither diesel nor electronically controlled shock absorbers are provided for Russia - as in the case of a hatchback, station wagons will be brought to us with a suspension for bad roads: with stiffer springs and ground clearance increased by a centimeter. And if you consider that the wagon's carrying capacity per centner is higher than that of the hatchback (600-611 kg, depending on the modification), its smoothness will obviously be worse.

But the handling has not changed! That amazing "feeling of the steering wheel" that is inherent in the new Golf has been preserved. Of course, for active drivers it is preferable gasoline cars with a lighter 1.4 TSI turbo engine. With it, the Golf behaves more “neutrally” in corners, while the diesel station wagon more actively went out of the turn.



Options for automatically opening the trunk with a “kick” or button have not yet been offered. But the tailgate rises 10 cm higher than before - by 2020 mm. Instead of a dokatka, we will have a full-size spare tire in the underground. In the same place, in addition to the tool, there are holders for the removed curtains and crossbars.

First I tried the base Variant 1.4 TSI (122 hp, 200 Nm), and then switched to the boosted version (140 hp, 250 Nm) and… didn't notice much difference! Yes, almost a second of difference in a jerk from standstill to a hundred (9.7 vs. 8.9 s) is felt, but in both cases, enviable traction in the widest rev range captivates. And more weak aggregate peak 200 Nm “spread” from 1500 to 4000 rpm, and the more powerful motor “shelf” of 250 Nm is 500 rpm shorter. The average fuel consumption in a comparable driving mode differed by only 0.2 liters and did not exceed 7.0 l/100 km. Economic wagon!

But how expensive it is, it's hard to say. In Russia, Volkswagen Golf Variant will appear only in next year. Prices, engines and configurations will be announced closer to the start of sales. For example, in Germany, the base station wagon costs from 18,950 euros, or 1,775 euros more than a three-door hatchback. It turns out that for every additional liter of usable space, the German pays five euros.

The car is not the newest. But, in terms of versatility and trips by a large company, it is unique in its own way.

Golf Plus plays in a very narrow niche. In addition to him, there is, perhaps, only the Citroen C3 Picasso and the related Skoda Roomster. Opel Meriva, but in the current generation, it was slightly podzdalas and deepened.

And Golf Plus is still a thing in itself. It is slightly taller, wider and longer than the regular Golf. And it will be noticed, first of all, rear passengers.

The compartment for bags has also grown: it has become deeper and more spacious. If desired, the middle section can be folded. It turns out, on the one hand, a table with a cup holder; on the other - a hatch for long lengths. Winter is in the yard, snowboards have to be transported somewhere.

In my opinion, you should book a table with a cup holder right away: the third person in the middle will still be uncomfortable in the legs. Together, but - expanse. Places for the knees with a tangible margin, the shins do not rest against the front seats, and there is solid air above your head. The ceiling is so high here!

The driver's seat is utilitarian and unpretentious. In fact, we have repeatedly seen all the elements on all other models of the concern: 4 air vents - on the Tiguan, a climate control unit, steering wheel and instrument cluster - on Polo, Touran, Golf ...

Ergonomically - perfect: "music" and climate are adjusted without taking your eyes off the road, blindly, with minimal training. The paddle shifters on the steering wheel are precisely designed for the position of the hands "ten minutes to two" - the fingers themselves lie on them. It's five".

But the build quality will not receive such an assessment: the joints and gaps are neat, but there is some kind of “cricket” on the driver’s side in the cold. Annoying!

But the driver's seat is excellent. The length of the pillow, the distance between the side support rollers, the shape of the backrest and even the fit of the headrest are optimal for average height in 170-180 cm. You sit comfortably, resiliently, moderately hard, and even after 100 kilometers without stopping you don’t want to warm up.

And these are all “in moderation”, “just right”, “neat” - this is the philosophy of this machine.

I have always considered the Golf an exemplary car. He rides no better and no worse than many classmates - he rides just right. Elastic on the comb, harsh and without buildup on the country road, monolithic on the highway.

An interesting fact: despite the impressive height, it is not blown away by oncoming trucks. An important fact: I once had a Roomster on “golf” units for personal use. So on the way to Chelyabinsk, each oncoming truck strove to overturn it on its side with an oncoming air flow. Plus "Golf" with similar dimensions and settings is nothing!

It is clear on the steering wheel and predictable in slips. Which, of course, quickly extinguishes the stabilization system. But even without it, the stern skid is corrected by a small and smooth movement of the steering wheel.

On our test, it was relatively simple equipment with a 1.6 liter naturally aspirated engine and DSG. There are no complaints about the first one: he carries decently with his 100-odd horses.

Overtaking, however, must be calculated in advance and twist "higher" - it comes to life in the range 4000-5000 rpm. With a monolithic measured movement, the DSG is a miracle, how good it is, with a torn urban rhythm - it wanders between the first and second, and therefore twitches, which we have already written about many times.

On the spiked winter tires it is a little noisy - you can hear the rustling from the wheel arches. But the motor is not heard at all. What's nice: on other VW models with this aspirated, its non-melodious rattling bothers. In Golf Plus extraneous sounds from under the hood managed to reduce almost to nothing.

And yes, it's hard to find fault with him. A solid car is solid in everything: it doesn’t press on the shoulders, it doesn’t press on the top of the head, it carries suitcases, it accelerates well and slows down confidently. Yes, and the wallet is not particularly devastating. The 1.6 liter engine is “old-fashioned” for nothing (without turbines and other compressors), but the timing chain changes every one and a half hundred thousand kilometers. And the consumption in the combined cycle can really be put into 7-8 liters.

The manufacturer recommends AI-95, but from personal experience in operating such an engine, I can say that 92nd with "Gazpromneft" also consumes with pleasure. The difference in injectivity is insignificant, but in terms of money - very much so.

And the best part is that the compromise, in fact, the car just does not have to compromise! The spacious interior does not turn into huge dimensions, the car does not go much beyond the usual golf-class station wagon, while still giving much more.

Such is the paradox. With the prefix "plus".
