Oil change in automatic and manual transmissions Honda CR V. Oil change intervals in honda automatic transmission What kind of oil in honda cr v automatic transmission

Honda CRV cars of the 3rd generation are equipped with 2 types of gearboxes - a mechanical six-speed and a five-speed "automatic", which is quite reliable if it is serviced in a timely manner. Changing the oil in a vending machine is a simple and fairly cheap procedure. Let's take a look at how professionals do it.

When to change automatic transmission fluid

The oil in the Honda automatic transmission is changed according to the mileage - there is no reference to the years of operation. It doesn't matter that it is light and does not smell like burning, no sediment falls out - it will always be like that, but it will begin to lose its properties closer to 40 thousand km. Hence the recommendation - to make a replacement every 30 thousand km. If the car is used in difficult conditions, the fluid is changed more often (every 15-20 thousand km), but partially.

If you do not follow the rules, you will soon have to repair the box.

When buying a car from hands, the oil should be changed immediately, no matter how the previous owner assured you that “just changed it”.

What kind of oil to fill

By design, automatic transmissions of Honda cars differ from boxes of other manufacturers. The parts are made of materials that can withstand high loads and temperatures.

Otherwise, the box is unlikely to live up to the 50-thousandth run. Other oil is not able to maintain its properties at high temperatures - it will just boil.

What is needed

The procedure can be performed if there is a lift, pit or overpass.

You will need:

  • ATF DW1 fluid (four liters);
  • set of tools;
  • container for draining the waste liquid;
  • new aluminum washer for the drain plug;
  • funnel or large syringe with hose and gloves.

Replacement procedure

Engineers of the manufacturing company argue that oil change in automatic transmissions on Honda SRV cars should be done differently - not like on other cars.

To pump a large amount of "transmission" under pressure - only harm the box. The design of the Honda automatic transmission has the following features:

  • there is no removable pallet, which makes it impossible to clean it from wear products of rubbing parts. If you try to flush the box under pressure, all the dirt will move to the filter;
  • the filter is also non-removable. To clean it, you need to disassemble (and then correctly assemble!) Almost the entire box, which is very expensive.

When flushing, the filter will become clogged with slag, which will disable the automatic transmission. Due to clogging, the oil pressure rises at the inlet of the system, but there is no more pressure at the outlet from it. The car will not even budge or it will move at high revs. If you see this, get ready for an expensive automatic transmission repair.

Some Russian service stations are very fond of telling tales about the complex procedure for changing the oil in the automatic transmission Honda SRV 3. Service stations are trying to “rip off” money for this to buy 15 or more liters of fluid.

It is optimal for the third generation Honda CR-V automatic transmission to partially change the fluid - in this case, only 4 liters will be enough:

  • warm up the car and the box to operating temperature, place it on a lift, above a pit or on an overpass;
  • stop the engine, open the hood, wait 5 minutes. Then measure the level with the dipstick. If there is a shortage, top up to the upper mark through the dipstick hole (at its upper mark). Do not put the dipstick back;
  • wait another 10 minutes (so that the liquid cools down) and look for the automatic transmission drain hole. If the protection is installed, it will have to be dismantled. The plug is located to the right of the car's engine near the wheel. Clean it from dirt with an iron brush;
  • Place an empty container with a volume of at least 4 liters under the plug. An empty 5-liter water or washer bottle will do;
  • using a ⅜ square drive, carefully unscrew the plug almost to the end;
  • now put on gloves and completely unscrew the cork without dropping it into the container;
  • let the oil drain completely. Should flow out just under 3.5 liters;
  • then clean the magnetic part of the plug from chips. Be sure to replace the old plug sealing washer with a new one;

  • measure the volume of the leaked oil. This will tell you how much new fluid you need to add;
  • replace the plug;
  • go to fill. Insert a funnel or a hose with a syringe at the end into the hole of the gearbox dipstick, fill in the liquid as you have drained. It is important not to pour ATF, it is better to add a little later than to pump out the excess;

  • start the car and warm up the power unit to operating temperature. Together with it, the automatic transmission will also warm up;
  • switch the gears of the box, lingering in each position for 5-10 seconds;
  • stop the engine and wait about 10 minutes. Now measure the level and top up if necessary.
There are opinions that the liquid level should be at the maximum mark or in the middle. And so, and so it will be right, the main thing is not to overflow.

For a complete oil change, three partial changes must be carried out at intervals of approximately one week. You will have to buy about 12 liters of ATF.

CR-V 2

The procedure is performed in the same way. Only the amount of oil differs: the total volume is 7.2 liters. Partial replacement drains 3.1 liters.

CR-V 4

Changing the automatic transmission oil in a Honda SRV 4 is absolutely the same. With a mileage of 90 thousand km, the external automatic transmission filter also changes. The original number is 25430-PLR-003.

There is nothing complicated in the procedure for changing the oil of an automatic transmission of a Honda CR-V of any generation - if a car service issues an impressive bill for this procedure, refuse and look for a more honest service station.

Finally, a video on how to change the oil in a Honda machine:

The car owner can change the transmission oil for the Honda CR-V 2 on his own, without the help of specialists. However, without a specialized tool and disassembling the gearbox, it will not be possible to completely drain the lubricant. Therefore, the car owner can only make a partial replacement with his own hands.

Which oil is better to choose in an automatic transmission for a Honda SRV 2?

When changing the oil in an automatic transmission on a Honda SRV 2, the main focus is on choosing a new lubricant. Buy it in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions for vehicle maintenance.

It is not recommended to fill in other analogs in the automatic transmission of Honda SRV 2. This is due to the high thermal loads on the transmission, due to which the oil boils. As a result, the gearbox fails after 30-50 thousand kilometers.

When do you need to change the automatic transmission oil on a Honda CR-V 2?

A separate aspect is the frequency of oil change in automatic transmissions in Honda CR-V 2. There are several common indicators, which are paid attention to when solving this issue:

  • indicators from the manufacturer - according to them, the lubricant in the transmission needs to be changed every 50 thousand km;
  • Russian operating conditions of the car - taking them into account, the service life of the lubricating fluid is reduced to 20-40 thousand km;
  • individual conditions of use - depending on these factors, the overall indicator may also be reduced.

K n personal factors that reduce the service life of the lubricated grease, include:

  • driving speed and aggressive driving;
  • the frequency and duration of city trips;
  • frequent stops, turns;
  • road surfacing, sliding, slipping, holes;
  • additional loads, lifts, towing trailers;
  • climatic conditions, annual temperature fluctuations.

Taking these aspects into account, it is recommended to identify the gearbox oil change intervals on an individual basis. To do this, attention is paid to preventive checks, during which the volume of the lubricant is measured and its appearance is assessed.

Signs of the need to replace the transmission oil include a change in its color and density, the appearance of a burning smell, impurities, sediment. These factors indicate a loss of lubricating properties, which can soon lead to malfunctions in the operation of the automatic transmission.

Some car owners also refer to interruptions in the operation of the gearbox as signs of an expired lubricant service life. Inconsistent shifting, extraneous sounds, jolts and vibrations - all this indicates not only the need to change the oil, but also the relevance of diagnostics of the transmission system by specialists.

It is not recommended to wait for breakdowns in the gearbox - this unit is considered one of the most difficult in a car and its repair will be quite expensive. At the first suspicion of poor-quality operation of the oil, its preventive replacement is performed. In this case, even partial draining and refilling will avoid costly repairs in the future.

Replacement process

Do-it-yourself oil change in automatic transmission Honda SRV 2 begins with the process preparation... In the course of it, they prepare the necessary tools, buy consumables, choose a place to work.

The specificity of the assembly of the Honda CR-V 2 does not allow you to remove the sump, and when you change the oil yourself, they do not change the filter. This is due to the need to disassemble the gearbox, which should not be done in the absence of skills and knowledge.

At the preparatory stage, the system is checked for faulty connections, and replacement parts are purchased for them. Usually, during the prevention, together with the oil, they must change the drain plug washer, if the bolt is damaged, they also change it.

To work with changing the lubricant and components, you will need a flat space with convenient access to the main components of the system. The possibility of using a flyover, a repair pit or a lift is emphasized. If they are absent, a jack with supports will do.

In the process of work, attention is paid to compliance safety precautions... The car must be secured safely for the owner. Some people remove the negative from the battery as an additional precaution.

Also pay attention to the high temperature of the drained grease and its toxicity. In the process of work, they use rubber gloves, to collect liquid, an unnecessary container is prepared, preventing the mining from getting into the soil.

List of instruments for changing the oil in the automatic transmission Honda CRV 2 includes the following accessories:

  • a set of keys and screwdrivers, gates with socket heads;
  • clothes that you do not mind getting dirty, lint-free rags, rubber gloves;
  • capacity from 4 liters for collecting mining;
  • new oil, a washer for the drain plug, if necessary, and other components to replace worn parts.

Given the impossibility of carrying out a complete oil change on your own, the procedure is carried out at a partial level. To increase the efficiency of the process, the general procedure is repeated - this increases the oil consumption, however, it makes it possible to better clean the system of waste liquid residues.

Draining old oil from the tank

Draining the oil from the automatic transmission on the Honda SRV 2 is carried out according to the following procedure:

  • warm up the engine by circulating the lubricant;
  • uncork the filler neck in the engine compartment;
  • find a drain plug from below, substitute a container under it;
  • uncork the drain, allow the liquid to drain into the prepared container.

It is usually drained up to 3.5 liters, the amount is determined using a measuring canister. According to the obtained value, the volume of oil for filling is further measured. If time permits, allow the mining to cool down for a more accurate value.

Pallet rinsing and swarf removal

In the Honda CR-V 2, the pan is not removable, which to some extent complicates the process of draining and flushing. Given this factor, the emphasis is on cleaning the entire system.

The flushing procedure involves refilling the oil at various intervals. Some do it immediately after warming up the engine, others after several hundred kilometers.

This cleaning of the transmission involves the following steps:

  • drain the old lubricant, fill in a new one in its place;
  • let the car run, it is better to drive for a while;
  • drain new grease as used, refill with fresh one.

The process can be repeated several times until the drained liquid remains sufficiently clean. This method increases the required amount of purchased oil up to 15 liters.

Flushing removes waste grease residues and sediment from the system. Taking into account the cost of a complete replacement by specialists, this option, even with additional costs for oil, costs the driver less.

Filling in new oil

Filling the automatic transmission of Honda SRV 2 with oil does not involve complex actions. After draining and flushing, clean the drain hole and plug, change the washer, and, if necessary, the bolt itself. The system is plugged, the tightness of the connection is checked.

New fluid is poured into the filler neck, through which the level of transmission lubricant is checked. If the volume was measured on a non-cooled working out, it is recommended not to add a little.

Then the engine is warmed up for several minutes with all gears shifted. After warming up, measure the oil level, top up or pump out if necessary. In a heated and cooled state, the amount of grease should not go beyond the permissible limits indicated on the dipstick.

The gearbox is a rather complex mechanism of any car, and this is especially true for automatic transmissions. Machine owners need to regularly monitor the condition of this unit, servicing it in a timely manner, changing the ATF and the oil filter.

ATF replacement intervals

According to the regulations established by the automaker, the oil change in the Honda SRV box should be carried out every 30-35 thousand km for automatic transmissions and up to 60 thousand for manual transmissions. At the same time, under operating conditions in our country, it is better to reduce these periods by at least one and a half times.

Reasons that indicate the need to add or replace fluid in the transmission include the following:

  1. Shocks when shifting gears.
  2. Stuttering when pressing the gas pedal.
  3. Various slippage, rebounding, etc.

What kind of oil to fill?

The oil in the automatic gearbox Honda SRV is an ATF-Z1 fluid, which is a special mineral fluid. It was used in all cars from 1995 to 2011. After 2011, a new oil was poured into the automatic transmission - ATF-DW1.

Changing the oil in the automatic transmission Honda SRV 3 or 1 is performed according to approximately the same instructions. The difference is that for the first generation, 3.5 liters of lubricant are needed, and for the third generation, a little more than 4 liters.

As for manual transmissions, to change the oil, they require the use of an original lubricant - Honda Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF).

Tools for the job

To change the oil, you will need the following set of items:

  • gear oil ATF Z1, ATF DW-1 or MTF;
  • purification filter with number 25430-PLR-003;
  • a seal for the automatic transmission plug under the number 90471-PX4-000;
  • the container into which you will pour the old grease;
  • a set of keys;
  • rags.

Instructions for changing the oil in automatic transmission Honda SRV

There is nothing difficult in changing the oil in a Japanese car Honda SRV of the first or third generation. You must follow these instructions:

Changing the oil in the automatic transmission Honda SRV is one of those mandatory procedures, without which the car is subject to rapid wear. Despite the fact that the Honda CR-V is positioned as a reliable budget crossover with the makings of an SUV, its units do not last forever, and require constant attention from the owner. And the automatic transmission is the most capricious mechanism in the car.

Transmission Oil Change Interval

Most often, Russian motorists are faced with the procedure for changing the oil in the MR4A automatic box on a Honda SRV 3. This modification, produced from 2007 to 2011, won recognition from many compatriots. Even a high-quality original "transmission" with mileage loses its working properties and can no longer cope with its tasks.

Over time, the automatic transmission of the Honda crossover begins to behave capriciously and this manifests itself in the form of symptoms:

  • re-gasification during gear changes;
  • jerks when the accelerator pedal is depressed;
  • slipping during the start;
  • with a change in speed.

This interval also applies to other modifications of the model. For those who are accustomed to driving a car at high speed or loading the transmission off-road, the fluid should be changed more often.

Automatic transmission is the most complex mechanism in any car. The owners of such cars are obliged to constantly pay attention to its condition. Carry out service on time, regularly change ATF and oil filter.

According to the manufacturer's recommendation, replacement 3 and 1 should be carried out every 30–35 thousand kilometers. But in the conditions of our terrible roads, this period is better to be halved. It is very important if you bought not a new car, then do not try to save money, but replace the transmission fluid immediately.

Reasons indicating the need for topping up fluid in an automatic transmission or completely replacing it:

  1. Shocks during gear shifting.
  2. Kicks when you press the gas pedal.
  3. Various kinds of slippage and frequent overshoot.
