Production technology

Tire production technology is a multi-stage and high-tech process. Each stage of manufacturing includes innovative technologies developed by the company's specialists and are a trade secret of the manufacturer. But we can highlight the key stages of production:

  • The first stage is the preparation of the rubber compound. All components are crushed, mixed, rolled out on rollers. For admission to the next technological operation the composition must go through a multi-stage technology of its preparation.
  • Germosloy. The material is rolled, shaped and cut and placed on a moving device. The inner thin layer is the inner layer of the tire.
  • Woven fabric. It is placed in a rubber shell and forms a second layer and acts as a frame for a fragile inner layer. The radial arrangement (at an angle of 90° to the direction of travel) increases the strength of the structure.
  • Side rings. The steel wire is covered with a layer of the mixture, twisted into a ring, and at the next stage it is fastened with an apex. The steel wire and rubber compound in the boron ring assembly area is molded to form a profile that secures the tire to the wheel rim.
  • Steel cord. The metal wire is unwound from the rollers, covered in a calender with a mixture and cut at an acute angle. Next comes the breaker. The steel core of the belt is created in the winding chamber. Here the individual wires are woven into a thin steel cord.
  • Tread. After extrusion, the tread tape is cut into elements of the required length, which are placed in shipping cells.
  • Frame assembly. On the assembly drum, the bead ring and apex are fastened to the pressure layer and sidewall. After that, the assembly is completed.
  • Breaker pack assembly. It consists of a belt, a reinforcing layer and a tread. Attached to the winding drum.
  • At the final assembly site: the airtight layer, the reinforcing layer, the bead, the sidewall apex are assembled into a single frame (blank) of the tire.
  • Curing. The workpiece is placed in a mold and vulcanized at a temperature of 170 - 200 °C and a pressure of up to 22 bar, the operation time is up to 10 minutes. These parameters depend on the type and size of the tire. This is the last operation in the production of a tire, it takes on a profile and its components are combined into an inseparable structure.

ContiSeal- innovative solution manufacturer, which allows to ensure the sealing of punctures during movement. Specially developed structure provides sealing of punctures with a diameter up to 5 mm. Tire damage is healed even if a foreign object is mixed or thrown out. ContiSeal does not reduce tire performance.

SSR - emergency protection system. The reinforced sidewall allows the tires to be used in cases of pressure loss over a long stretch of road (up to 80 km) at a maximum speed of 80 km/h. In the event of a tire failure, the entire weight of the vehicle is taken up by the reinforced sidewall. This makes it possible to exclude spare wheel from the configuration motor vehicle and increase the useful volume of the trunk.

ContiSupportRing (CSR) is a puncture protection product. This development of the Continental concern involves the installation of a lightweight metal rim with elastic support inside the tire on a regular disc. After World War I


Started in 1914, the First World War provided the German company with military orders. However, the subsequent defeat of Germany had rather negative consequences for her, from which she was able to recover only by the beginning of the 20s of the last century, exactly by the 50th anniversary.

This event, which took place in 1921, was marked by tires with an elastic cord made of fibrous fabric, as well as the world's first pneumatic tires for trucks. And five years later, carbon was introduced into the rubber compound, which gave the tires their characteristic black color, and also significantly increased their service life.

The Second World War also brought the company a lot of military orders, which made it possible to bring several interesting developments “to mind” at once. In 1943, a patent was obtained for tubeless tires, the first serial samples of which, due to another military defeat in Germany, were released only in 1955. Also, because of the war, a few years later, an all-metal cord (1951) and tires marked M + S “reached the factory conveyor”.

By the 1960s, the company had finally recovered from the negative effects associated with the Second World War. Serial production of tires with a radial cord was established. However, much more important is the practical implementation of the business diversification plan, which involved the opening of the production of technical and plastic products for automotive industry both in Germany and France.

In 1970, the company released the first non-studded Winter tires ContiContact, which happily existed to this day, having transformed into a whole line of several dozen models.
