The PP Sport car was purchased in the summer of 2008 in the AC. "Musa-Motors". At that time I came to look at the Volvo XC 70 and Land Rover Freelander, but could not deny myself the pleasure of possessing this golden miracle. It may be naive, but both my wife and I were simply amazed by the combination of “thrones” driver's seats, a large glass area and the legendary PP fit - high (or even higher thanks to air suspension) and comfortable (filler optimal in terms of rigidity and strength, numerous adjustments with memory). At first, the operation brought several unpleasant surprises- the car discovered problems with the starter and a small glitch in the air suspension. The problem with the starter was solved by replacing it under warranty, during which they installed a Webasto timer for free (that is, for nothing), and the suspension glitch required a free flashing. Looking ahead, I will say that winter operation revealed another unpleasant feature - at temperatures below -10 C and at a speed of about 80+ km (out of sympathy for the movie "Back to the Future", let's say 88 km/h), the car lost power, and the display showed "engine malfunction". Of course, this was treated by restarting, but when you have to accelerate, lose speed, brake, restart and accelerate again 3 times per hour, then human nerves required treatment. In general, at the end of winter 2008-2009 everything warranty cases were implemented and there were no complaints about the car.
At the moment, the car has covered about 130 thousand km. and there are no complaints against him. On the other hand, the car, if he knew how to express himself, would not be able to make serious claims to its owner.
Exploitation. In a timely manner service book. Dealer Atlant M Yauza. I can't say that the service is very expensive. Everything is relative. For example, the first maintenance (12,000) cost me about 400 US dollars, the first maintenance at Rolf LLC for a Hyundai Getz for a friend of mine cost about the same amount. When, finally, with a clear conscience, I refused service from the officials (end of warranty, 2011) and switched to LR-service, some details became clear, in particular, that all over the world RRS is serviced once every 24,000 km, and not 12,000. Well, the oil doesn’t have to be packaged in liter containers with LR markings. That difficult operating conditions are not Moscow or Central Russia, but mountains and preferably with a 3-ton boat on a trailer :)) Whatever one may say, the set of complaints about domestic service for all brands is close to the standard, so there is no point in dwelling on this I see. The car can only be bought at a secondary market, there is no chance of a visit to the officials, so it makes sense to give some prices: oil change including materials - about 7,000 rubles, replacement of pads all around - about 13,000 rubles. Xenon lamp- about 3500 rub. I change the oil every 24,000 (with my mileage - once a year), the pads a little more often. Changed it once brake discs, 1 - lamps in the headlights. Nothing else.
Fuel efficiency. According to the passport: during long runs - 11.7 liters per hundred, in the city - 12.7-13.2. Diesel. It eats its native fuel well, it was only poisoned once at a no name gas station in the Kirov region: the engine honestly drove to Moscow and then it started writing “water in fuel” on the display and persistently wrote, but drove for about a month until the time for the next maintenance came , however, the replacement of the fuel filter took place unscheduled :(.
Comfort in long trips. The car has traveled a lot around Europe. The most remote place from Moscow is Genoa, the coolest is Kosovo :)), where I mistakenly took myself and my family during a trip to Montenegro. 1000 km are easy and relaxed, the consumption is pleasing, and under your right foot there is always half the pedal travel and smooth and powerful acceleration up to about 170 km/h.
Trips around Moscow. The car is respectable, so those around you are quite polite. The high ground clearance (what a paradox, but outside the city I almost never used it) allows you to storm the snowdrifts and ridges of snow from harvesting equipment. Consumption in the city increases slightly. The car, although large, is very suitable for maneuvering in a parking lot due to its linear design. Of course, the camera that comes with the new RRS makes life a lot easier, but most owners are quite satisfied with mirrors and parking sensors - which are initially present at the rear in all trim levels.
Subjective claims.
- Poor instrument panel.
- Suboptimal cruise control mode.
- Lack of electric trunk drive.

The most difficult breakdowns are those in which you have to literally tear off the body Range car Rover Sport 3.6 TD. There are many videos showing that the Range Rover Sport requires this manipulation for any repair. We hasten to dispel such a myth so as not to frighten real and potential owners of this SUV. This is an exception to the rule, not a given.

If we compare the Sport with the Discovery model, then in the second case the body comes off much more often, because on these SUVs with a 3.0 engine the diesel engine often jams and breaks crankshaft or the liners rotate. The Sport does not suffer from this problem; its engine works like a clock and is considered one of the most reliable in the entire Land Rover line. As LRKing service practice shows, in SUVs of this model there is never any burnout of the pistons, and there are no problems associated with connecting rods that can knock. Most of these malfunctions appear due to oil leaks, engine overheating, or improper DIY repairs. In other words, the driver himself is to blame.

However, the Range Rover Sport has two typical breakdowns. The body must be torn off from the frame when major renovation engine or there are problems with the crank mechanism. But now we do not take them into account, in fact, in the same way as human factors. Speaking specifically about system failures, these include turbine malfunction and leakage exhaust gases. In the first case harmful substances pass through the manifold seals. As for the second situation, it can happen for two reasons. There is too much friction in the plain bearings and high consumption oils The turbocharger disappears, and behind it the electric actuator breaks down.

Other malfunctions of the 3.6 TD engine

The problem may also be hidden in the air pipes. Their problem is that over time they become tanned, so we recommend that the client change them after passing the next 25-30 thousand km. Very often, when cracks appear in them, even the smallest ones, the machine enters into limitation. Of course, the driver goes for diagnostics, where they often blame the turbine, condemning it unreasonably. Yes, the boost drops, but in fact, the problem is hidden in the air pipes. You can tell that they require replacement even by their appearance.

New pipes are elastic and bend easily, while faulty ones look like plastic. The cooling system pipes can also fly behind them; they are less resistant to oil, so when driving high speed they can simply be torn out. As soon as you see that there is a lot of oil on the air pipe, it means that it is quite possible that the water pipes have also been affected.

Replacing the thermostat is also systemic problem. This procedure is complex and time-consuming.

As a rule, if this element malfunctions, you can see how quickly the antifreeze disappears. At the same time, disposable components, such as a fuel pipe, also require replacement. As a result, you are faced with a serious and expensive repairs multicomponent assembly.

The EGR valves may also fail, although they fail much less frequently than what happens on the same Discovery.

In order to change them, it is necessary to perform many manipulations, including removing intake system. This work should be trusted only to qualified craftsmen.

AND last problem– glow plugs; you don’t need to replace them yourself, since removing them is quite difficult. Therefore, if any problems arise, come to our Range Rover Sport LRKing service, carry out diagnostics, and the engine will always be in order.

First Range generation Rover debuted on the market in the early 70s of the 20th century. That original style, almost unchanged, has been preserved to this day. Black window pillars, flat roof, huge hood and angular shape. The third generation of the SUV was primarily focused on luxury, comfort and prestige.

The Range Rover 3 was introduced in 2002 and was produced for the next 10 years in the British city of Solihull, located in central England. And although Land Rover even then it was under the wing of Ford, it still had enough components inherited from BMW: a serial system DSC stability, navigation and multifunctional steering wheel. In 2007, the company, together with Jaguar, passed into the hands of a new owner - Indian company Tata Motors.

The car has gone through several upgrades. In 2006, a 4.2-liter V8 reinforced with a compressor and a 4.4-liter naturally aspirated Ford joined the engine lineup. The list of equipment was also updated, a rear view camera appeared, touch screen, Harmon/Kardon audio system with seven speakers, wireless videos cameras and special off-road navigation.

In 2007, the interior was updated: more comfortable chairs were installed, new door handles and wooden inserts. Traditional manual parking brake was replaced by an electronic one. For changing BMW diesel A 3.6-liter unit came with a working volume of 2.9 liters.

Wears out relatively quickly plastic parts the interior does not fit into the noble style of a luxurious Briton.

Another serious lift Range Rover suffered in 2010. The headlights and bumpers have been updated, and a camera system has appeared that allows you to check what is happening under the car - especially useful when driving off-road. It is impossible not to mention a special screen on which you can simultaneously display information from navigation system, TV tuner or video player.

In 2011, the car underwent the latest modernization. Several changes have been made to the interior, and under the hood there is a new 4.4-liter turbodiesel and an 8-speed automatic transmission. In 2012, the Range Rover L322 gave way to its successor coded L405.

The quality of the upholstery on the comfortable chairs does not match the price either.

Technical features

The Range Rover 3 has caused quite a stir in the off-road world. The SUV was without a frame. The car turned out to be not revolutionary light (after all, 2.7 tons of dead weight), but some competitors were heavier.

Luxury SUV has a system all-wheel drive suitable for real off-road use. Traction in any of the modifications is simultaneously distributed between the wheels through the Torsen central differential. In addition, the system uses a gearbox and locking rear differential(option). Thanks to air suspension can be increased considerably ground clearance, which is invaluable away from the asphalt. Electronics responsible for correct distribution torque between the wheels.

Range Rover 3 was equipped with three different automatic transmissions gears: 5, 6 and 8-speed. The suspension of the British SUV is completely independent, and thanks to pneumatic elements it provides excellent comfort. In Euro NCAP crash tests the car earned 4 stars.

Adaptive shock absorbers with an adjustable degree of damping (stiffness) have been installed since 2010.

Engines

Gasoline:

  • Compressor 4.2 V8 (396 hp)
  • 4.4 V8 (286-306 hp)
  • 5.0 V8 (375 hp)
  • Compressor 5.0 V8 (510 hp)

Diesel:

  • 2.9 TD R6 (177 hp)
  • 3.6 TD V8 (272 hp)
  • 4.4 TD V8 (313 hp)

For thrifty car enthusiasts the choice of engines is obvious - 177-horsepower diesel unit produced by BMW. It attracts moderately with reasonable fuel consumption of 12-13 l/100 km and decent reliability. However, there are malfunctions in the operation of injectors and the fuel pump high pressure and turbocharger. Fortunately, troubleshooting these problems is not prohibitively expensive. However, the dynamics are not amazing - 14 seconds to 100 km/h. Not surprising, because the SUV weighs about 2.5 tons.

If you want to buy diesel SUV the first years of production, the choice will be limited to the above-mentioned modification with 2.9 TD. Those who can afford a younger car can choose between two V8s. Owners of Range Rover with a 3.6 liter diesel engine complain about an unreliable turbocharger. There are even cases of engine jamming, so it is better to opt for another option. The fact is that after 200,000 km failures are observed oil pump. Lack of lubrication finishes off first one turbine, and a little later the second. A remanufactured turbocharger can be purchased for $600. However, to replace it, you will have to remove almost the entire front suspension. Over time, the thermostat may also leak.

The 3.6-liter turbodiesel has problems with turbochargers. The thing is small, but expensive.

Version 4.4 TD has not been on the market for very long, and therefore it is difficult to judge the failure rate. More often, owners have to deal with control electronics failures. If the car is used mainly in the city, then additional problems creates a particulate filter.

Petrol 4.4-liter V8 company BMW power 286 hp with Vanos variable valve timing system. Common ailments: high oil consumption, problems with the ventilation system crankcase gases and Vanos malfunctions.

It is believed that British SUVs with petrol engines are less likely to be visited by mechanics. The most modest 286-horsepower unit with a displacement of 4.4 liters (by the way, also BMW engine) consumes 16-18 l/100 km, and the top 5-liter with a compressor burns at least 25 l/100 km. Anyway, basic Gas engine more dynamic than the base diesel - 9.2 seconds to 100 km/h. In many copies the fuel pump failed, but the manufacturer carried out a service campaign to eliminate this defect. True, not all SUVs made it to the service station. At long runs Hardware failures are common. In the Supercharged version, problems with oxygen sensors are common.

Low-quality plastics often cause leaks in the cooling system, which can lead to serious engine damage.

Malfunctions

Land Rover models have never had good reliability. Range Rover III was no exception. Many cars have suffered various misfortunes. The most common are damage to the air cylinders, air compressor or suspension position sensors. These items can cost up to a couple thousand dollars to repair. Also rapid wear ball joints, shock absorbers and suspension arms are affected. And failure front differential can lead to immobilization of the all-terrain vehicle.

Rapid wear of suspension components is rather the norm for any large SUV, not Range Rover disease.

GM automatic transmission diesel versions does not withstand high torque and gives up the ghost after 100-150 thousand km. Transmission oil leaks are common.

The ZF automatic transmission (pictured), paired with the V8, is much more more reliable than a machine gun G.M.

Before purchasing, you should check the steering mechanism. Vibrations felt in the steering wheel while driving indicate serious problems. Sometimes cheap ones break plastic elements in the electric steering column. Land Rover offered the only convenient solution for itself - replacing the steering column assembly - about $2,000. But craftsmen are ready to solve the problem for a tenth of this amount.

The destruction of small parts often leads to failure of the steering column adjustment system.

The brake booster pump also causes a lot of problems. The manufacturer organized a service campaign to eliminate the defect, but not all owners of the British SUV knew about it.

Heavy weight and powerful engines put a lot of stress on the braking system.

The air conditioner malfunctions from time to time. After starting the engine, everything works as it should, but after about half an hour the air flow weakens and gets warmer. In addition, refrigerant leaks are common in the air conditioning system.

Often irritating leaking door seals. Water first collects in the cracks, and when the doors are opened, it pours out in a cold shower. This does not lead to any malfunctions, but it is very unpleasant to see this in a luxury SUV.

Range Rover owners regularly complain about failing front panel displays and glitches software responsible for managing xenon light, as well as a jamming drive for automatically folding mirrors.

The air suspension compressor guarantees trouble for every Range Rover.

Conclusion

The cheapest Range Rover III models cost about $8,000, and the most expensive ones cost about $50,000. And although the prices for the oldest representatives model range seem more attractive, don't be fooled - the operating costs will be huge. You will have to pay a lot and often for the right to own such a luxurious SUV.

Why then is Land Rover so valued? Behind high level comfort, very rich equipment, powerful engines, good dynamics and an excellent all-wheel drive system. Another important feature of Range Rover is its unchanging classic style, best traditions brand. That's why customers choose this model. The biggest problem is high price spare parts and difficulties in finding qualified services and specialists. Range Rover's first 3 years of production lacked strong diesel engines.
