Thermo top evo connection. Preheater Webasto Thermo Top Evo Start. Is it true that the use of a heater increases safety

Webasto engine preheaters Thermo series Top are designed for mounting on passenger cars and can be used for:

  • engine heating at low temperatures for a safe start
  • interior heating and windshield(to remove icing) when idle engine
  • additional heating of the engine and passenger compartment with the engine running in severe frosts

The principle of operation of the heater

Autonomous heaters Thermo Top Evo operate independently of the vehicle engine. The heater is connected to the battery and fuel system of the vehicle. The principle of operation is based on the heating of the liquid in the engine cooling system, which is forcibly pumped through the heat exchange system of the heater.

The operation of the heater is controlled electronic unit control, which, depending on the temperature of the coolant, switches the heater to the full mode ( maximum power), partial (half power) load or control pause (temporary shutdown). When the coolant is heated to a temperature above 50 ° C, the control unit gives a command to turn on the passenger compartment fan. And when the temperature drops to 45°C, the fan turns off. This allows you to warm up the interior of the car to a comfortable temperature.

The start time, mode and duration of operation are set by the user using a timer or systems remote control heater.

Scope of the Thermo Top Evo model

  • Cars small class with engine capacity up to 5 liters
  • Warming up the engine in moderately cold conditions

Why do you need a Webasto heater?

For warming up the engine before starting and for warming up the car interior. Can work at -40s, can work with the engine running, warming up the coolant to operating temperature.

How does Webasto work?

Fuel is supplied to the combustion chamber of the heater from the car tank, the heat from the combustion of the fuel is collected by a heat exchanger in which the engine coolant circulates, heat is supplied to the passenger compartment from the radiator of the car stove. Thus, the engine and the interior of the car warm up. Webasto uses its own fuel pump and a circulation pump for pumping coolant and works autonomously.

How to use Webasto?

Turn on before traveling by car 10 - 60 minutes before departure. The operating time depends on the air temperature, heater power, and vehicle engine size. To charge the car's battery, drive it for the same amount of time as the Webasto heater has been running.

Bought in February 2014 a new car in Moscow. On the way I went to Nizhny Novgorod. There, the officials, right in front of me, installed this evo heater in a few minutes with the start from the alarm key fob and from the remote control on the car panel. I asked the car's stove not to be used for the launch. I use it every day, even in summer summer temperature during the day 10-15 degrees. It's summer in the north. In winter, I turn it on in frosts for 50 twice for half an hour. I charge the battery once a week. In frost up to 45, one half-hour cycle is enough. In frost up to 25 I turn on twice for 15 minutes with an interval of 15 minutes. In frost up to 20, one cycle is enough for 15 minutes. In the summer it's also 15 minutes. I charge the battery once a month. The battery is still on the original car - the one with which it was bought. It didn't start just once. On the way home in a new car, I flew into a snowdrift on a winter road and clogged the exhaust at the heater with snow. There was a failure and blocking at startup. At home I called the master installer, he told me how to restart. Since then there have been no problems. Very nice to get in and out warm car. I don't have a garage, my car is parked on the street in any weather. I go about my own business, about my wife's business. Heating is convenient and reliable, especially with our winter.

Thermo Top Evo, depending on the model, can run on petrol or diesel fuel and is designed to heat the car interior, help in defrosting windows, preheat car engine liquid cooling.

The inclusion and process of starting a liquid pre-start Webasto heater Thermo Top Evo.

Starting takes place via a switch-on signal from the control. The reheater starts when an input signal appears. The appearance of the input signal depends on pre-set switching conditions, such as outdoor temperature and operation of the car engine. When connected to Thermo Test PC diagnostics, other controls are disabled.

When the heater is started, the blower, circulation pump and glow plug start to function. Then the dosing pump is turned on. The Webasto Thermo Top Evo petrol heater starts with maximum load. Diesel Webasto Thermo Top Evo starts with a minimum load and slowly accelerating, goes to the maximum load.

During the start phase, the glow plug controls the formation of the flame. If the flame does not appear, or breaks off during the start-up process, this will lead to a restart. If the flame does not appear again, then start attempts are stopped. The heater is switched off by the appearance of an error and blowing of the supercharger.

The heater can only be put into operation after it has been switched off. Depending on the temperature of the liquid, the control unit selects the starting stage. The start-up stages are identical in terms of sequences, they differ only in the duration of individual phases (warm-up, fuel supply, etc.).

Heating mode of Webasto Thermo Top Evo liquid preheater.

After entering the mode maximum load the glow pin performs the controlling function of the flame sensor. After reaching a certain temperature (about 80 degrees), the heater switches to an energy-saving partial load mode.

If the temperature reaches the set switching point again, the heater switches back to control pause mode. If the temperature of the coolant decreases during part load due to increased heat extraction, the heater will switch back to full load.

The switching point temperatures are programmed in the control unit. If a flame break occurs during the normal combustion process, an automatic restart occurs.

Restart liquid preheater Webasto Thermo Top Evo after shutdown with an error.

After the cause of the error has been eliminated, the heater is switched on again with a normal switch-on signal. This does not happen after overheating or a recurring error without intermediate normal modes burning.

Starting the Webasto Thermo Top Evo liquid preheater after a long period of non-operation.

A long non-operating state does not have any effect on the process of starting the heater. The only caveat to this may be the filling of the highway. In particular, petrol heaters are subject to partial evaporation of the fuel in the lines in the summer, so several full start attempts must be taken into account when starting for the first time.

Commissioning can also be carried out using the Thermo Test PC diagnostics. With its help, you can pump fuel through the highway. Fill the fuel line up to the heater using the "Bleed line" button.

Switching off and stopping the Webasto Thermo Top Evo liquid preheater.

The combustion process is stopped when a switch-off signal is received, when the limit combustion temperature is reached, when the set operating time is reached, or when an error occurs. This immediately stops the control of the metering pump and reduces the speed of rotation of the supercharger.

After a successful burnout to cool down, the blower fan speed is increased again. The purge time and fan speed of the blower depend on the type of heater and the state of operation in which the heater is turned off.

Switching off and on signals are processed according to the following rules:

1. The signal to turn off always comes from the control.
2. If there is no longer an initial switch-on signal or the set operating time has elapsed, this is interpreted as a switch-off signal.
3. A new start signal is ignored until the original start signal no longer exists.
4. Changing the heating time during operation is not possible. The heating must be switched off and restarted with the changed heating time.
5. If the heating was started as a reheater, the stop will be interpreted as a shutdown signal.
6. Restarting the heater is possible only after the combustion is completed and the first stage of cooling (forced blowing) has ended. The repeated switching signal is still stored in the intermediate memory and is not executed.

The heater is controlled either remotely - from the Telestart T91 remote control or by telephone using the Thermo Call system, or from a digital timer installed in the car. The heater can be equipped with one of the listed control systems or any combination of them - this is negotiated separately when purchasing / installing the heater. Is it true that the use of a heater increases safety?

Statistics show that in winter most accidents occur in the first 15 minutes of a trip. The reason for this is limited visibility and increased driver reaction time at low temperatures. The pre-heater, which warms up the passenger compartment and assists in defrosting the windshield, helps to solve these problems and thus increases the safety of the trip.

Does the heater use a lot of fuel?

One of the main areas for improving Webasto heaters is to reduce their fuel consumption. Currently, the Thermo Top Evo heater requires no more than 0.7 liters of fuel per hour to operate at full load. In addition, since the heating efficiency is very high, as a rule, the desired temperature in the circuit is reached earlier, and the control unit of the heater automatically switches it to the economical mode of partial load. In addition, a warm engine consumes less fuel, this usually compensates for the additional fuel consumption of the heater.

My car is equipped with air conditioning (climate control). Can a preheater be installed on it?

Installation on most modifications of cars equipped with air conditioning or a climate control system will not encounter any obstacles. May need additional work for setting up on-board electronics, as well as installing the relays necessary for this, etc. – in any case, the additional cost of time and money for this is relatively small. Regarding the use of the heater: depending on the air conditioning / climate control system installed in your car, during the preparation of the heater for operation (i.e. before you leave the car in the parking lot), you may need to press 1-2 additional buttons. Webasto develops for such vehicles special instructions both for installation and use: you can find details in our service centers!

What is the difference between Thermo Top Evo 5 and 5+ heaters?

Both models have a heating output of 5 kW and operate max. 60 minutes. Thanks to the optimized control of the cooling circuit, Thermo model Top Evo 5 provides enhanced feed warm air inside the vehicle by warming up the engine. In temperate European climates and for those whose priority is cabin warmth, the Thermo Top Evo 5+ is often preferred over the '5' model.

Sorry, this model is only available on European market, but in Russia we offer you a special retrofit kit for Thermo Top Evo 5, with which it works similarly to the “5+” model. And for SUVs with engines larger than 4 liters, we recommend the powerful Thermo Pro 90 heaters.

The installation of the heater is usually carried out in engine compartment in the area between the wheel housing and the front bumper. Install as low as possible to ensure self-deletion air from the heater and circulation pump.

The heater must not be installed:

– in the zone of direct thermal influence of the exhaust gas system

- below the level of the overcome ford of the car

- above the compensation tank of the coolant.

Installation regulations must be observed!

The heater is attached to the bracket with at least 3 M5 screws with a tightening torque of 8 Nm. The standard bracket is fixed with at least 4 M6 screws to the vehicle body or to the intermediate bracket. It is forbidden to fasten the bracket to the body with self-tapping screws. If necessary, it is allowed to technically correct the bracket.

The circulation pump (liquid pump) is installed in accordance with the scheme:

The amount of coolant in the circuit must be at least 1.5 liters. The heater is usually connected to the cooling system at the inlet of the heat exchanger. Collect the escaping coolant in a suitable container. Always use coolant hoses supplied by Webasto. Otherwise, the hoses must at least comply with DIN 73411, material class B. The hoses must be routed without kinks and, if possible, with a lift from the heater to ensure unhindered venting. The inner diameter of the hoses must be 18 mm. Secure hose connections with clamps to prevent slipping.

Fittings installation.

Never mount the mounting plate and fittings on installed heater . The contact surfaces of the O-rings in the heat exchanger must be clean and undamaged. Moisten before installing O-rings water. Lay the O-rings in the openings of the heat exchanger. Insert the fittings into the base plate. Install the fittings in the required position, in accordance with the diagram.

Attach the base plate with fittings to the heat exchanger. Self-locking screw DG 5X15 mm, tightening torque 7 Nm. For self-bleeding of air from the heater, the water outlet must be directed upwards by 0-90° if possible. Follow right position coolant temperature sensor wires.

21) Heat exchanger inlet. 22) Heat exchanger outlet. 30) Sensor wire.

Hose installation

Clamps on the heat exchanger fittings should be installed between the thickening of the fitting and the hose stop. Before the first start-up of the heater and after changing the coolant, ensure that air is carefully bled from the cooling system. The heater and piping must be installed in such a way that static air removal is ensured. Insufficient ventilation can lead to malfunctions due to overheating during heater operation.

Installation of the circulation pump

The circulation pump is installed in the cooling circuit with the discharge side to the inlet of the heater heat exchanger. Consider the flow direction of the circulation pump towards the vehicle's cooling circuit. The installation position of the circulation pump must be chosen in such a way that air can be vented from it independently. The air from the pump must go up through the fittings. Incorrect installation can lead to malfunctions of the pump.

Control

After installing the heater and all components of the cooling system, it is necessary to check its tightness with the pressure prescribed by the vehicle manufacturer.

Connection to the fuel system

Connection is made either to the supply or return line or through a special fuel intake in the tank. On vehicles with a fuel pump, fuel must not be withdrawn from the supply line! If the vehicle has check valve on the return line to the tank, then fuel must not be taken from the return line. It must be ensured that there is no lack of fuel in the fuel system of the vehicle due to the extraction of fuel for the heater. – When withdrawing from the intermediate tank, it must be ensured that it is not empty. Correct installation carried out in accordance with the scheme, where 33) from the tank. 34) to the dosing pump. 35) to the engine

The connection can also be made through the fuel intake unit, in accordance with the diagram, where 31) Fuel selector from the tank. 32 Fuel pick-up unit with a hole

The mounting surface of the fuel extractor must be clean, flat and free from burrs. When using a fuel extractor in the fuel intake assembly, the riser tube must be carefully installed. It should not affect the operation of the parts of the fuel intake unit, including the indication of the fuel level. The length of the riser tube should be chosen such that, when assembled, the distance to the bottom of the tank is at least 10 mm or 20 mm to the bottom of the fuel pick-up unit. Observe the safety precautions prescribed by the vehicle manufacturer and the tightening torques threaded connections. The fuel extractor should only be installed in the fuel intake assembly, it must not under any circumstances be mounted in the tank body.

Fuel line.

The fuel line is divided into suction and discharge lines. The suction line connects the tank to the metering pump, the pressure line runs from the metering pump to the heater. The length of the fuel line should be as short as possible. The fuel line must be protected from damage along its entire length. The fuel line should be laid in cool areas to prevent bubble formation due to heating. Heat fuel can cause the heater to malfunction. Therefore, the fuel line must not be run near strong heat sources (eg exhaust systems) or in areas of aerodynamic heating. If possible, the fuel line should be laid with a rise from the tank to the heater. Fasten the fuel line so that it does not sag. Install an abrasion guard when crossing sharp edges. It is forbidden to lay the fuel line in the passenger compartment of the vehicle.

Connecting two pipes with a hose

The correct connection of the fuel pipes with a hose is shown in the figure, where41) Collar. 42) Air bubble

Check the tightness of the connections!

dosing pump.

The dosing pump is a combined supply, dosing and shut-off device that must meet certain installation criteria.

The metering pump must not be installed in the heat affected area of hot vehicle parts. If necessary, use thermal insulation. The preferred location is near the tank. The dosing pump should be mounted on a vibration damping suspension. Mounting position restrictions are shown in the figure above. ( maximum angle inclination, axial position), thus ensuring good removal air. The arrow shows the direction of fuel flow.

A notice must be attached at the location of the filler neck, warning that the heater must be switched off before starting refueling. Use the stickers supplied with the kit. Affix the sticker "Turn off the heater when refueling" near the fuel filler neck. When switching to winter fuel turn on the heater for about 15 minutes to fill the fuel lines and fuel pump with new fuel.

Combustion air supply

The air intake must be located or protected in such a way that it cannot be blocked by debris or balance. The air intake opening must be positioned so that there is no contamination of the intake air. It should not be directed in the direction of travel. Combustion air supply requires intake piping. The air intake should be from a cool, splash-proof location above the level of the vehicle's ford. If the air intake is in a closed space, a ventilation opening of at least 3 cm2 is required.

Exhaust system

The exhaust pipe (inner diameter 22 mm) can be laid in several turns (270° in total, smallest bend radius 50 mm). The total length of the pipe must be between 500 and 1000 mm. Operation of the Thermo Top Evo heater without an exhaust silencer is not permitted. The silencer must not be located close to the combustion air intake. The silencer should be installed at a distance of at least 200 mm from the heater. Make a hole ø 2 mm for condensate drainage in the lowest point muffler.

The muffler and the exhaust pipe for the removal of exhaust gases must not be mounted on temperature-sensitive parts of the car (brake pipes, electrical wires, car controls, headlights, lower engine protection, plastic parts, etc.) and should be located at a distance of at least 20 mm from them. Only spacers approved by Webasto for this purpose may be used. The exhaust pipe must be sufficiently secured so that the above minimum distances are maintained, even when the vehicle is moving. Only pipes approved by Webasto may be used for exhaust gases. It is recommended to mount the exhaust system splash-proof.

Condensate must be drained from the pipes. If necessary, it is allowed to make a hole for draining condensate at the lowest point of the system.Outlet pipe of the exhaust system exhaust gases must be located in such a way that the possibility of exhaust gases entering inside is excluded vehicle through fans, heating system air intakes or open windows.

The outlet of the exhaust gases must not be obstructed. Gases must not be directed to vehicle parts. Exhaust gases must not escape in the area of the wheel arch. Observe the maximum steering angle of the front wheels. Locate the exhaust outlet so that it cannot be blocked or damaged under any operating conditions. The end of the exhaust pipe must not be directed in the direction of the vehicle. The flow of outgoing exhaust gases must be directed vertically downwards or with an inclination of no more than 20 ° against the direction of movement of the vehicle. After passing through the lower engine protection exhaust pipe should protrude another 10 mm.

Electrician.

Electrical components such as relays, fuses, switches, etc. must be installed so that they are protected from ingress of water (splash, high pressure washing water...).

The electrical connection of the heater is carried out in accordance with the diagram. The timer is also connected according to this scheme.
