The first models of small-sized garden equipment appeared at the beginning of the last century. The German company Siemens-Schuckertwerke, the Swiss SIMAR and the American Beeman Tractor were among the first to produce light models of tractors for land cultivation.

The development of mini tractors peaked in the years after World War II. Many, now well-known brands, for the mechanization of manual labor in farms, private households have developed many unique samples of mini-equipment, which were the constructive basis for today's models.

The Czechoslovak mini-tractor TZ-4k-14 was produced in 1951 at the Agrostroj enterprise (Prosteev). It was the first mini tractor to appear in the Soviet Union. Popular models of mini tractors of other brands Deutz-Fahr, Mitsubishi, DongFeng became known in the CIS countries much later, in the mid-nineties.

The production of the TZ-4k-14 tractor in the Czech Republic was suspended in 1990. Currently, modernized versions of the TZ mini-tractor are produced at factories in Poland, Hungary, by Agroservis Pavel Šálek s.r.o. in the Czech Republic.

By the early 1980s, the TZ mini tractor had already spread to the USSR. One of the first notable uses of these machines was in construction and utility work during the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. Then the Moscow leadership left laudatory comments about this Czechoslovak product. At the end of the 70s, the USSR was the largest consumer of the machinery of the Agrostroy Prostoyov plant, as reported by the Foreign Trade of Czechoslovakia magazine.

It is worth looking at the technical characteristics of this tractor. Nimble and compact - it could walk through the back streets of construction sites and hard-to-reach corners of agricultural plots. The ground clearance was 29 cm, the turning angle was 1.9 meters, the length of the entire tractor was 275 cm.

Before deliveries from Czechoslovakia, the smallest tractor in the USSR was the T-25. It was harder to drive than the TZ 4K 14 and more expensive.

The TZ 4K 14 minitractor was easy to operate and incredibly passable due to the articulated solar frame. As a result, driving this mini tractor was a real pleasure. The effect was further enhanced by the curiosity that this unusual machine aroused at first.

The engine of the TZ 14 mini tractor was originally a two-cylinder. The piston stroke of 85 mm created a thrust that construction workers, according to them, did not expect from a small tractor. The engine power was originally 9 hp. This capacity was the Slavia 1D80, also produced by the Agrostroj plant.

But some modifications, which appeared in Poland and Hungary, brought the power up to 14 hp using the Slavia 1D90 engine.

The TZ4K14 minitractor was supplied with a four-speed reversible gearbox. The speed of the minitractor is 16.5 km / h, if you squeeze the gas all the way. The dry single-plate clutch makes the PTO dependent.

The tractor travel is heavy. Slowly but surely, the TZ 4K 14 mini tractor will plow the required area without breaking. But the performance is not impressive: the articulated sun frame reduces the tractor's pulling capacity.

The rotation of the machine occurs due to the movement of the frame, as in this video. So, although the machine is maneuverable, it is not stable enough to work with a plow.

But instead, the tractor performed well, working with a single axle tipper trailer that had a removable tailgate. Its length was 2.6 m. The original trailer had a payload of 1000 kg, although we did not test it. As mentioned earlier, the TZ 14 mini-tractor has proven itself in the construction and cleaning of the territory. Blades and brushes are much better suited than agricultural implements.

The agricultural technique that went well with this mini tractor is a mower. You yourself understand that with a machine with such dimensions, you can only work in a garden of 100 meters by 100 meters. Preparation of fodder

This model uses many elements from its predecessor (TZ-4K-10), but differs from it in many technical improvements and improvements. It is worth noting that the Czech mini-tractor is one of the first purchased by the Soviet Union in the 1970s. The machine has a swivel fork through which the front and rear axles are connected. When making a turn, the axles of the mini-tractor rotate 45 degrees from each other. This solution made it possible to achieve excellent maneuverability, which made it possible to use the car in rather cramped conditions, since the smallest turning radius is only 1900 millimeters. For improved flotation, the fork is designed to raise and lower the axles by 11 degrees. For this, the front and rear track widths can also be adjusted. Initially, this figure is 700 millimeters, but it can be expanded to 1000 millimeters.

The mini tractor uses a single-cylinder, two-stroke, air-cooled diesel power plant. The engine can work in any conditions without overheating, since the air cooling system does its job perfectly, since the overall dimensions of the engine came out rather small. The unit is started by means of an electric starter, but it can also be started manually. The gearbox used has four reverse gears for both forward and reverse travel. A differential is installed on each axle. The front axle differential has locking functions, since this axle is the leading one in the model. The manufacturer added two independent braking systems to the mini-tractor, including a manual front brake and a rear foot brake.

During the Soviet era, the TZ-4K-14 mini tractor was used almost everywhere, in every field of activity. The technique was very popular in construction, utilities and agriculture. In construction, the tractor mainly carried out the transportation of any cargo and materials, as well as leveling embankments. In agriculture, equipment was actively used for all types of work, since this made it possible to produce a very extensive range of additional attachments. In utilities, a mini-tractor was used mainly to clear snow from any sites, but transportation of various goods should not be ruled out.

Currently, this technique is also used, but for the most part only in greenhouses, vegetable gardens, farms and small farms.
