Volkswagen Sharan: photos, specifications, reviews. Volkswagen Sharan - owner review

The Volkswagen Sharan is a popular D-segment minivan from a well-known German automaker. From Persian, the name can be translated as "bearer of kings." Produced from 1995 to our time, today the second generation of the model is in production. As conceived by the developers, the main target audience of the 5-door spacious car is young middle-income families.

History reference

At the turn of the 1980-1990s, Europe was swept by the fashion for family cars with a spacious single-volume interior - the so-called minivans. Many auto companies got involved in the race for a promising segment. However, the development of a new class of cars requires large investment costs both for design and research work and for organizing production, which ultimately affects the final cost of the finished product. The two auto giants, Ford and Volkswagen, have decided to join forces in this area to split the costs in half.

A joint project to develop the Volkswagen Sharan and its twin brother, the Ford Galaxy, began in 1991. The plan was for both manufacturers to enter the minivan segment of the European market, which at the time was dominated by Renault Espace. For this, a joint venture AutoEuropa was created with headquarters in the town of Palmela (Portugal) located near Lisbon, where construction of an assembly plant began.

From idea to implementation

By joining forces, the German and American companies divided the responsibilities for the design work among themselves. Volkswagen was involved in the powertrain, in particular the TDI and V6 engines. Ford developed the suspension and related components. The overall design of the models was created under the direction of Greg M. Greoson, an American specialist working at the Advanced Design Studio in Düsseldorf, Germany.

In late 1994, the results of the partnership between the Volkswagen Group and the Ford Motor Company were presented at various showrooms. And the production of both models began on May 1, 1995. Subsequently, the Volkswagen Group developed a third model for the Spanish subsidiary brand SEAT, which had a common base. It was named "Alhambra" in honor of the architectural and park ensemble in Granada.

The characteristics of the Volkswagen Sharan and the Ford Galaxy were similar, as they had a single platform. The exterior design also differed only in small things. There were noticeable differences in the arrangement of the cabin. The first generation combined the aesthetics of the well-established Ford Mondeo and Passat Variant models. After restyling in 2000, each of the cars acquired its own face. "Sharan", in particular, has incorporated elements of the Passat and Jetta IV.

First generation

The first generation was launched in May 1995. "Sharan" was steadily in demand. With a production volume of 50,000 units, about 670,000 vehicles were sold annually over 15 years of production. In addition to Europe, it was sold in a number of Asian countries, Latin America, South Africa. Moreover, for each region, its own version was developed, focused on natural features and national preferences of buyers.

For example, in Mexico, powerful comfortable cars are in demand, so the Volkswagen Sharan TDI Turbo with a volume of 1.8 liters (150 hp, 112 kW) with a five-speed automatic transmission Tiptronic only in the Comfortline configuration was mainly realized here. At the same time, both a turbocharged engine and a more economical 1.9-liter TDI with 115 hp were available in Argentina. With. Both the 5-speed "mechanics" and the "automatic" Tiptronic acted as a transmission. The most popular was the Trendline trim.

Design

Despite the fact that the appearance of the car did not seem to stand out from the rest, its recognizability was high due to the strongly sloping front end. The windshield, hood and even the radiator grille with head optics visually form a single plane. This improved aerodynamics and slightly reduced fuel consumption.

The Volkswagen Sharan salon does not amaze with its newfangled design, but all the elements are made in German pedantically and with high quality. The ergonomics of the driver's seat and work are good. All the keys and levers you need are close at hand. The dashboard, ventilation system and car radio are combined into a single compact unit made in the form of a hemisphere.

Specifications

Volkswagen Sharan has a simple but reliable design. The rear suspension is located on oblique levers, the front is a MacPherson system. The most common types of transmission are 5-speed manual, but there are also 6-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmissions. They are distinguished by their reliability and, as a rule, do not create problems for car owners.

There is one five-door body for all modifications, but the number of seats can reach seven due to the installation of additional seats to the detriment of the trunk. The most comfortable is the six-seater Highline. It is equipped with independent VIP-class seats with an individual adjustment system, armrests and the ability to rotate 180 °. Dimensions: width - 1.8 m, length - 4.63 m, height - 1.73 m.

Drive type - front. Initially, the power line consisted of 5 types of engines. The weakest is the 90-horsepower diesel. But it is economical both in terms of fuel consumption and maintenance. Since 2000, in order to increase their power, they began to be equipped with special expensive unit nozzles, which are demanding on the quality of the diesel engine. Later, the line of units expanded to 10 models.

Features of the 1.9L I4 TDI motor:

  • Power: 85 kW (114 hp) at 4000 rpm.
  • Torque: 310 Nm @ 1900 rpm.
  • Volume: 1896 cm 3.
  • Fuel supply: direct injection, turbocharging.
  • Maximum speed: 181 km / h.
  • Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h: 13.7 sec.
  • Combined fuel consumption per 100 km: 6.3 liters.

Of particular interest to this day are the all-wheel drive Sharan Syncro, equipped with the most powerful 2.8-liter engine in the range.

Restyling

In 2000, the Volkswagen Sharan was redesigned. Small changes were made to bumpers, optics and body elements. However, the overall appearance remained the same. But the salon has changed. Instead of a barrel-shaped, slightly awkward dashboard, focused mainly on the driver, a slender two-piece dashboard appears, stretching from the driver's door to the passenger door. It still looks modern today.

The number of glove compartments and all kinds of niches for gloves, documents and various small things has increased significantly. The front seats have acquired pronounced lateral support. The head restraints are high and reliable. Since 2004, the assembly of vehicles equipped with an on-board computer has begun. Of course, he is not as cool as modern systems, but he copes with his duties. Also, more expensive and high-quality materials began to be used in the decoration.

Second generation

In 2010, sales of the second generation of minivans began. If you compare the photos, the Volkswagen Sharan has become more elegant. It has grown in height and breadth by several centimeters. The design is based on the platform. Production is carried out at the same AutoEuropa plant in Portugal. Machine weight reduced by 30 kg. The initial range of petrol engines included the 1.4-liter TSI (148 HP) and 2-liter (197 HP). Complementing the picture are two 2.0-liter TDI diesel engines with an output of 140 hp. With. and 168 liters. With. (125 kW, 170 hp). The rear doors are now sliding.

Of course, the changes also affected the interior. The on-board computer has moved higher, and the instrument cluster has been supplemented with a liquid crystal information display. In the 2015 models, a lacquered wooden insert runs along the contour of the doors and the "tidy", slightly enlivening the austere interior. The upholstery of the seats has improved, leather is used in expensive trim levels.

Further cooperation

In December 1999, Ford sold Volkswagen its stake in AutoEuropa after the manufacturer decided to develop its own replacement for the Ford Galaxy. The auto giants disagreed on how big the next generation of minivans should be. At the same time, the assembly site in Portugal continued to work.

Finally, the cooperation between the partners ended in 2006. The last Ford Galaxy left the AutoEuropa production lines at the end of 2005. The new generation was developed by a company from the USA independently, and the production moved to the city of Limburg (Belgium). Thus, the Palmela factory focused exclusively on assembling the Sharan and Alhambra models.

By the way, Volkswagen Sharan is not sold in the United States and Canada. This was originally due to an agreement between Ford and Volkswagen not to compete with the Ford Aerostar. Subsequently, the Germans signed an agreement with Chrysler to work together on projects for Chrysler Town and Country, which are more suitable for the North American market.

According to car owners, the car is a worthy competitor in the minivan market. It is quite reliable, with a long engine resource. Moreover, on the roads you can also find models of the first generation in good condition. Given the prevalence of the brand, there are no problems with repairing and finding spare parts.

The car is convenient to operate both for a family and for transporting bulky things - the seats can be easily removed in a few minutes. The ride on the highway is smooth and comfortable. But the car is not intended for off-road. The weak point is the landing gear and air conditioners of the first series. Also, drivers note the high fuel consumption of gasoline engines.

My golden hands, glory to the Almighty that he rewarded me with them. Therefore, I do the repair myself. I try to use the original details. The price for them is one and a half, higher, but calmer. Racks in a circle changed to, hydro,. Ball bearings, CV joints, rakku, tips, bones, cables, parking brake, and much more on the chassis, all original. I changed the turbine on the engine (it is with geometry), after flashing about 135 horses on the stand, drums,. There is only one way out, give a damn, fuel pump, and then calmly start the engine. There are no functions, kickdown, on this year's car. But when I drowned out the USR, broke through the catalyst and changed the DMRV to 037 (the original, by the way, this is on the VAZ2110,2114), the thrust increased noticeably. People, try not to change the DMRV, sometimes it is enough to rinse it in alcohol (propyl, isopropyl, ethyl, methyl), while it is wet, put it back in place and start the engine. The air flow will dry it out. And you will see the difference in, YOU, value, air, I don’t remember the group, and most importantly, you will feel the thrust. The fifth door stopped closing, it turned out that the wires in the package were broken, near the hinges. I disassembled the corrugation, there are about 10 wires of them, tinned the ends, soldered, insulated with heat shrinkage and .... everything worked, and the wipers and all the lighting equipment. You can tell a lot, but better go to Skype - mabus66661 General impression Inertia, smoothness, grace, solidity and many other qualities of this car. About, sharan, you need to say not a minivan, but a carriage. The steering is very responsive, especially at speed. Landing in the driver's seat is pleasant, the visibility is excellent. Not a sedan (station wagon), but not a bus either. Although, when the VAZ 2110 and VW T4 stand next to them, they differ little in size. More precisely, a sharan, between them! I like four swing doors, it's easier with them. With sliding problems over time (sagging, closing poorly, access to the salon is limited). My car is equipped with a 1998 AFN 1.9 TDI diesel unit with an electronic injection pump. The people call such cars - TRACTOR. But thanks to the presence of the injection pump, I bought this car. Reystaling cars (younger than 2001) came with CDI unit injectors (they are more expensive and capricious). The electrics are easy to repair and much more reliable than those of cars of recent years (judging by other reviews, many criticize Sharanovskaya). Chassis like a tank, except for the front struts. I would put racks in one and a half times the diameter, yet the weight of the car is about 2 tons. In winter, a heated windshield is convenient for a good view (consumes about 30 amperes). About the salon, it is Spartan, heated only the front seats. Behind, oars, in front of electric lifts. Side mirrors on cables without heating, I like (more reliable, greased and no electronics), these were on my Audi 80 V3.

Review Volkswagen Sharan 1.9 TDI (Volkswagen Sharan) 2005

Equipment: power windows, heated mirrors, 12 airbags, ABS, ESP , heated seats, heated front and rear windows, automatic 2-zone climate, trailer hook, bluetooth , factory tinting of the rear st e count by 65%, on-board computer, OEM navigation is integrated into CD - radio tape recorder, immobilizer and alarm.

The history of the car was easy to verify, since there was only one mistress before me. She provided all the bills, where, how and when the car was repaired and serviced. I sold it because for further use the car required a significant investment (replacement of brakes, shock absorbers, timing belt, filling the air conditioner). In Germany, cars are often sold on the eve of expensive routine maintenance. For example, replacing a Sharan's timing belt can cost about 1,000 euros, but it needs to be replaced every 100,000 km. The Germans know how to count, so there are many Sharans on sale at an attractive price, but with mileage approaching 100, 200, 300 thousand kilometers. I was lucky to have the opportunity to carry out repairs in Estonia, which cost me more than 3 times cheaper than local prices.

Strengths:

  • Lots of space
  • Low fuel consumption

Weaknesses:

  • Lack of space under the hood increases the cost of repairs

Review Volkswagen Sharan 1.9 TDI (Volkswagen Sharan) 2001

A car was purchased in the Republic of Belarus, but the car came from Germany just before I owned it. When buying, I gave preference to the quality and neatness of the car over the price. As a result, it was purchased for a little more than was offered at that time in local markets and auto newspapers. Of course, I was immediately frightened by the price of this car, I decided not to rush and take a ride through the markets and according to the ads, so that for the cost of my car already in the markets they were offered already in a slightly modified body in 2005, that is, four years younger, but not a single car is technically and the grooming I did not like more than my Sharan. As a result, I became the proud owner of the 2001 Sharan.

Of course it's true or not, God only knows, the mileage on my car at the time of purchase was 125,000 km. After the purchase, I naturally replaced the oil, naturally synthetics, as well as the Knecht fuel filter. Immediately filled with Liquid Molly, bought at the local market, and the Knecht filter. During the inspection, it turned out that one steering tip had to be replaced. Naturally, I did not change only it, but replaced two tips, two steering rods, stabilizer rods and stabilizer bushings, as they say in advance. These spare parts do not cost a lot of money, and you need to give time for repairs, and since I use the car for work purposes, idle time is money.

After 10,000 km, my oil pressure sensor began to give a signal that add oil, I eventually stop, let the car cool down, measure the oil level and the level turns out to be excellent. In this case, this signal indicates that it is time to change the oil in the engine. Although I can say that for synthetics, 10,000 km is a small mileage. Of course, I understand that the more often you change the oil in the engine, the better, but still 10,000 km is not enough. Then I add Castrol Edge oil and Bosch filter. As a result, I drive about 22000 km on it until the next change, and yet there was no such thing as with Liquimolli oil.

Strengths:

  • The relative cheapness of spare parts and their availability

Weaknesses:

  • In the cabin, the coating is erased on the door handles, it would be better if it did not exist

Review Volkswagen Sharan 1.8 5V Turbo (Volkswagen Sharan) 2003

1.8T. tiptronic, climate control, heating, 5 seats, xenon, cassette / changer.

further without fanaticism.bought on the market for 500r. replacement of the front bearings, pump, belt (muzzle is not removed), internal combustion engine gaskets. The oil in the engine and the gearbox twice. I filled the air conditioner. I asked for the rubber in all the openings, and all this for 32 rubles. The car is not a bit, but a lot of retouched chips. The service book is a hoax (there are a lot of facts. I will not list. The cost of filling it out is from 100 bucks at the request of the seller. IMHO)

For an average uncle, there is a lot of space behind the wheel - the left elbow is on the window, the right one does not reach the armrest and vice versa, there is generally a field behind. 9 people + belongings for swimming and we go very quickly, of course we don't jump from the spot anymore. The turbine whistles longer than usual. Consumption 92 about 12 on the highway. Stands on the road in any load is excellent, but goats on the waves. It does not boil and there is not even any inclination to this for any energy consumption. The review is decent, the interior is quiet, except for ventilation at maximum.

Strengths:

  • Sat down and drove

Weaknesses:

  • All cars have them

Review Volkswagen Sharan (Volkswagen Sharan) 2001

Hello to all! For a very long time I was choosing a car for the family, and so that the baby carriage could fit comfortably, both the bicycle and the potatoes could be taken and I would not be ashamed to go to work. I started my choice with Sharana, naturally, I looked at Ford Galaxy Seat Alhambra. I went to try on Zafira-1,2, Renault Scenic, Espeys, Peugeot 307, 807, Mazda MPV, I looked at Hyundai Santa Fe and Trajet. And I realized that the optimum for me in terms of transformation-convenience-price maintenance, availability of spare parts is a Volkswagen Sharan with a 1.8T automatic transmission engine. This device was bought after a long search for a good option.

For a month of use, I will say that a used car always contains jambs and troubles, but the pleasure of driving and using is very great. A high landing in the city is a great blessing, you can see the situation through the roof of the Zhiguli. The automatic transmission is very good and wise, much less nerves are spent in a traffic jam. Climate control and rear stove are very good, the interior warmed up confidently in winter. The spaciousness inside the car amazes all fellow travelers and work colleagues; a 1x1x1 m box is easily put into the trunk.

Built-in child seats make life a lot easier, the ground clearance is sufficient even in winter. The electronic differential lock helps in winter, but it buries itself in the snow great, very heavy.

Strengths:

Weaknesses:

Review Volkswagen Sharan 1.9 TDI (Volkswagen Sharan) 2002

1.9TDI AutomatTiptronic, leather interior. Purchase in January 2007, 110,000 km on the speedometer.

Immediately replaced: front brake pads (40 euros?), Grenade protection (10 euros), GRU belt 40 euros, filters by itself and wipers (40 euros, completely). Immediately, antifreeze began to disappear (1 liter per 100 (one hundred) km), it turned out that when changing the oil, it got on the coolant hose and just corroded it (the hose).

Impressions in 1 month. Inconvenient backrest of the driver's seat, spine gets tired despite adjusting seat stiffness. Creaky (very!) Front panel, although there is an option that the car was broken. Ventilation controls are buttons that you will not get used to and they strongly take over attention while driving (the climate control screen lighting is dark blue, very hard to read). CD changer with its cockroaches inside does not take discs the first time.

Strengths:

  • Lots, lots of space. Airflow for all 3 rows of seats (although for 2-3, it is only usable in the roof, but warm in the legs).
  • The handling is good, you can turn around where you want in one or two steps.
  • Light leather interior is beautiful!
  • Not a bad sound (changer with its cockroaches).

Weaknesses:

  • Hijacked !!! Exactly in a month! Set the alarm, so they hijacked in tow.

Review Volkswagen Sharan (Volkswagen Sharan) 2002

We bought it in November 2002, took a complete set of comfortline (2 pillows, a radio cassette recorder, climate, power accessories, heated front seats), a five-speed tiptronic automatic transmission, a 1.9 turbodiesel engine.

The first 20-25 thousand went with the replacement of pads, stabilizer struts. Then breakdowns began on a larger scale (thank God, there was a guarantee). The turbine broke down on 30 thousand (more than $ 2 thousand). At 38, some chip on the box glitched, it stuck in 3rd gear and did not switch anywhere else (replacing the chip would take 3 weeks to wait for it from Germany and 45 thousand rubles). Then another replacement of the turbine (by the way, by the way, too, wait 3 weeks). In the meantime, I changed the stabilizer struts and pads a couple of times. For 50 thousand, the wiper motor and the motor that supplies water to the windshield broke down, for this I myself have paid. By the way, the rear water motor also broke 2 times.

Now 80 thousand, the turbine is whistling, the service said that she will soon die, the suspension rattles (although 3 months ago I installed everything new, dear), the wiring is buggy, everything blinks like a New Year's tree, the front right wheel drive has broken. I was even tortured to list all this, how much I still have to invest - I’m scared to think (I can’t sell it, no one wants to buy it, although it’s in perfect condition if you don’t know these details).

Strengths:

  • Excellent visibility
  • Controllability
  • Traffic cops practically do not touch
  • 190 rides, it is not even felt that this is a minivan, confidently holds the road.

Weaknesses:

  • Terribly unreliable, Requires only high-quality fuel.

Review Volkswagen Sharan 1.9 TDI (Volkswagen Sharan) 2000

I bought a three-year-old Sharan. I have been in operation for 2.5 years. I passed 85 thousand (+ 85 thousand was on the speedometer when buying). I travel a lot, every day around the city. The car is comfortable and convenient. Took 1.9 TDII-economical to the point of indecency. Around the city 6.2 liters of solarium in summer, 6.8 liters in winter. On the highway - 5.0 liters at a speed of 110-130 km / h. The handling is great. Comfort, climate - everything is great. True, it is not clear why there are two on-board computers. Started even at -28 and it's a diesel! True, synthetic oil and diesel fuel are good.

But the disadvantages negate all these advantages. Its chassis is clearly not designed for its weight. Something flies all the time (although I drive almost alone in the car).

Changed: stabilizers - 4 pcs., Shock absorbers - 2 pcs., Steering rod ends - 2 pcs., Steering rod assembly - 1 pc. Silent blocks (they are two different in a set) - 2 sets, support bearings - 2 pcs. Now the intermediate semiaxis has departed. I barely found the price to fly away - 330 USD. You can take it for 200, but wait 2 weeks. There are simply no unoriginal ones. Used, too, no, a car with a rare engine. In addition, I changed the engine in the headlight (to adjust the headlight level) - 1 pc., Retracting 1 pc. Well, pads, freon, double timing, pump and battery do not count. Back door wires are cracking. It is necessary to do it periodically.

Volkswagen Sharan 1.9 TDI

Year of issue: 1998

Engine: 1.9 TDI

Greetings. I have been the owner of my Sharan for three years. Under the hood there is a pull-pad for 148 horses, tested on the "drums" (stand). Factory power, before firmware was 110 hp. Mileage 510 thousand km. Took in 2010 for 180 thousand rubles. A very strong feeling of ripping off the hands of the former owners is still present. I updated almost everything, the original VAG turbine, starter, 120 amp generator. Racks original in a circle. Casting from the Audi A6. Salon fabric and much more. There is silence in the cabin, although on the street, the tractor hums. Diesel is pleasant in everything, especially in low-end thrust, a tank is already up to 2000 rpm. Passengers are shocked by the throw, kickdown when they hit the floor with a slipper.

The Volkswagen Sharan minivan also belongs to the traditional multi-seat minivans or family cars, the production of which began in May 1995, together with the SEAT Alhambra minivan, which is almost identical in design. Until 2006, the Volkswagen Sharan together with the Ford Galaxy had the same body structure. For the Geneva Motor Show in 2010, the Volkswagen Sharan was presented in the newest generation and is now positioned alongside the Volkswagen Touran compact van and the Volkswagen T5 minibus. Like most vans of this class, the Sharan also has a changing interior concept. This means that in the Sharan car, which is also available in a version with all-wheel drive called the Sharan 4motion, using a special adjustable handle, up to five out of a maximum of seven seats can be folded out or completely removed from the passenger compartment. The resulting cargo compartment of approximately 2 m in length is also suitable for the transport of bulky goods, which is primarily confirmed by the massive presence of Sharan minivans in the parking lots of many furniture stores. The choice of engines for the 2010 Volkswagen Sharan model covers engines from the Volkswagen production range, so for its equipment a 2.0-liter TDI engine with three power stages of 115, 140 hp is used, and from January 2013 and from 177 hp. with., as well as a standard configuration of the Sharan car uses a TSI engine with a working volume of 1.4 liters and a power of 150 hp. The most powerful engine for the Volkswagen Sharan is the 2.0-liter TSI engine, which is used by the Volkswagen Golf GTI, which develops an output of 200 hp / 221 km / h. The Volkswagen Sharan is again sold under the SEAT Alhambra name under the SEAT subsidiary at the same price and with the same equipment. New in the modern generation are the large sliding doors, as demonstrated in the Volkswagen minibus or the new Opel Meriva minivan. All Volkswagen Sharan models are equipped as standard with a stability control system with an emergency braking system and a recoil system, with an optional direct shift gearbox (DSG), equipped with a front rear and head airbag, also equipped with a specially developed Volkswagen Sharan climate control system with separate temperature control and air conditioning for the rear of the passenger compartment, as well as 16-inch wheels with corresponding wide tires. Would you like to buy this car in a used condition? On the website you will find both a used Volkswagen Sharan and a new or one-year-old Volkswagen Sharan at an attractive price!
