The reason for the headlight misdirection may be incorrect installation lamps. Therefore, before making adjustments, check the installation of the lamp.

1. PREPARE THE VEHICLE FOR THE HEADLIGHT ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE

Prepare the vehicle as follows:

Make sure that there is no damage or body deformation near the headlights.

Fill up the fuel tank.

Make sure the oil is filled to the correct level.

Make sure the coolant is filled to the specified level.

Inflate tires until the required pressure is reached.

Unload luggage compartment and car. Make sure that spare wheel, the tools and the jack are in their original positions.

The driver's seat must be occupied by a person average weight(75 kg, 165 lbs).

For vehicles with height-adjustable suspension, before adjusting the headlight beam, you must set minimum height pendants.

For vehicles with manual adjustment headlights should be set to "0".

2. PREPARE TO ADJUST THE HEADLIGHTS

Install the vehicle in the following position:

Park the vehicle in a place that is dark enough so that you can clearly see the boundary line. The boundary line is the line below which headlights can be observed and above which they cannot.

Position the vehicle at a 90° angle to the wall.

Position the vehicle so that the distance between it (the center of the headlight bulb) and the wall is 25 m (82 ft).

Make sure the car is on a level surface.

Rock the car up and down to stabilize the suspension.

NOTE:

The distance between the vehicle (center of the headlight bulb) and the wall must be 25 m (82 ft) for proper headlight alignment. If there is not enough space, the headlights should be checked and adjusted exactly 3 m (9.84 ft) away. (The size of the target area changes depending on the distance, so follow the directions in the illustration.)

Prepare a sheet of thick white paper (approximately 2 m (6.6 ft) (length) x 4 m (13.1 ft) (width)) to use as a screen.

Draw a vertical line through the center of the screen.

Install the screen as shown in the figure.

NOTE:

Position the screen perpendicular to the ground.

Align the vertical line on the screen with the central axis of the vehicle.

Draw the main axes (horizontal, right and left vertical lines) on the screen as shown in the figure.

NOTE:

The centerlines for the low beam test and the high beam test are different.

Put on the screen the center marks of the headlight bulbs. If the headlights do not show center marks, use the center of the headlamp bulb or the manufacturer's name marked on the headlamp as the center mark.

Horizontal line (headlight height):

Draw a horizontal line on the screen so that it passes through the center marks. The horizontal line must be at the same height as the center marks of the dipped beam headlights.

Left and right vertical lines (to mark the center points of the left and right headlights):

Draw two vertical lines so that they intersect the horizontal line at the center marks (coinciding with the centers of the dipped beam bulbs).

3. CHECK HEADLIGHT DIRECTION

Cover the headlamp on the opposite side or disconnect its connector so that the light from the headlamp that is not being tested does not interfere with the headlight direction test.

WARNING:

Do not unplug high voltage discharge lamp when performing this light direction test.

NOTE:

Do not leave the headlight closed for more than 3 minutes. The headlight lenses are made of synthetic plastic and can be easily melted or damaged by excessive heat.

NOTE:

When checking the high beam direction, close the low beam headlights or disconnect the connector.

Start the engine.

Turn on the headlights and check if the boundary line matches the preferred boundary line shown in the following figure.

NOTE:

The dipped beam boundary line must be 48-698 mm (1.9-27.5 inches) below the horizontal line.

The dipped beam limit line should be 6-84 mm (0.2-3.3 in.) below the horizontal line.

If the adjustment distance is 25 m (82 ft):

The preferred dipped beam boundary line is 249 mm (9.8 inches) below the horizontal line.

If the adjustment distance is 3 m (9.84 ft):

The preferred dipped beam boundary line is 30 mm (1.2 inches) below the horizontal line.

4. ADJUST THE DIRECTION OF THE HEADLIGHTS

Vertical Direction Adjustment:

Using a screwdriver, adjust the beam direction of each headlight according to the specified range using adjustment screw A.

NOTE:

On the final stage the headlight adjustment screw should be turned clockwise. If the screw is turned excessively, loosen and tighten it again so that the final step is to turn the screw clockwise.

NOTE:

Since the dipped beam headlights and high beam headlights are one unit, if the dipped beam headlights are adjusted correctly, the high beam headlights must also be adjusted correctly. However, both beams should be tested to be sure.

Turning the adjusting screw clockwise shifts the direction of the headlights up, turning the screw counterclockwise moves it down.

Horizontal Direction Adjustment:

Using a screwdriver, adjust the beam direction of each headlight according to the specified range using adjustment screw B.

NOTE:

At the final stage, the headlight adjustment screw should be turned clockwise. If the screw is over-tightened, loosen it and tighten it again so that the final step is to turn the screw clockwise.

NOTE:

The dipped and main beam headlights are single blocks. Correct adjustment direction of the passing beam should lead to correct installation distant light directions.

If the headlights cannot be adjusted correctly, check the installation of the bulbs, headlight assemblies, and headlight reflectors.

Adjustment is carried out from the rear side of the headlights using an optical device. It is better to adjust the headlights at the service station. For self adjustment There are methods of varying accuracy. Therefore, when making adjustments, the method described below should be used only if absolutely necessary, taking into account the following conditions:

The car is not loaded;

Tire pressure is correct;

The fuel tank is filled completely, otherwise put the ballast of the appropriate mass into the body;

There must be a person on the driver's seat, otherwise put a ballast weighing 75 kg on the seat;

The vehicle is parked on a level surface.

To adjust the light in the headlights, adjusting screws are installed on the left and right. Screw 2 () is for setting the light in height, screw 1 is for lateral adjustment.

To adjust the headlights, you must perform the following operations:

Start the engine briefly and set the headlight range control (if fitted) to position 0;

Position the vehicle about 10 m from a light-colored wall or garage door. If it is necessary to adjust only one headlight, set its light beam at the same height as the light beam of the other (adjusted) headlight;

If it is necessary to adjust both headlights, make the appropriate markings on the wall or garage door, shown in.

Headlight adjustment must be carried out as follows:

Position the vehicle exactly 10 m from the wall. At a height d (height from the ground to the middle of the headlights), draw a horizontal line F;

Draw a second line A parallel to the first 5 cm below. This line is for low beam adjustment;

From the central center line M, mark the distances a (to the center of the high beam headlights) and f (to the center of the low beam headlights) with crosses;

Unadjusted light from the headlights is a serious hindrance for both the driver of the vehicle and the surrounding motorists. The main problems are related to:

  • dazzle surrounding drivers. This applies to oncoming vehicles as well as vehicles ahead. vehicles(light hits the rear-view mirror);
  • poor road lighting dark time days, which causes severe discomfort for the driver, while increasing the chance of an accident.

In order to prevent an accident, as well as to increase comfort when driving at night, it is necessary to correctly adjust the headlights. You can do this in garage conditions. You just need to follow the adjustment algorithm exactly.

headlight adjustment Toyota Camry has its own characteristics: the car is equipped with an electric corrector, but its functionality is often not enough for a comfortable ride. It refers to the light. To the far drivers rarely have any complaints.

Headlight adjustment

The headlight adjustment process on the Camry 40 and 50 is very similar, so it makes no sense to go into technical features each model.

Preparation and necessary tools

The first step is to check the settings and performance of the pre-installed electric corrector. On new cars, most likely, there will be no problems with it, but cars over 6 years old can given test do not pass. In case of failure of the electric corrector, its replacement should be the first stage of work.

The next step is to find the necessary site for customization. Location requirements:

  • the absence of holes and irregularities that can interfere with tuning;
  • a fairly large length in length (about 10 meters);
  • the platform must necessarily rest against a perfectly flat wall, by which you will evaluate the headlights.

To adjust the Camry headlights, you only need one tool - an 8 wrench. For convenience, you can grab several heads with specially curved tips.

How to adjust the headlights on the Camry 40 and 50: the main steps

To adjust the headlights on the Toyota Camry, use the following algorithm:

  1. Measure the distance over which the corrector adjusts the light beam.
  2. Mark its level of increase twice the maximum (corresponds to unity on the adjustment of the device).
  3. After completing these steps, of course, open the hood of the car, and then find in engine compartment special plastic adjustment plug. You can find it right behind the headlight housing.
  4. Start marking the wall. To do this, drive the car 5 meters away from it. Park the machine in a strictly horizontal position. Turn on your headlights.
  5. The first two vertical lines are located in the center of the light beam from each headlight. The third is held strictly between them.
  6. The first horizontal line corresponds to the distance from the center of the headlight to the ground (measured directly on the vehicle). The second is held 5 cm below it.

Now you can proceed directly to the adjustment. To do this, close each headlight, and then check the equivalence of their settings. Light from a separate source should be located along the lower horizontal line, while being limited to the extreme vertical opposite side. If you find a discrepancy, then you can adjust the headlight both in horizontal and vertical projection using the appropriate bolts.

The beam of light from the dipped headlights is raised upwards only after they have been checked in the lateral directions. To raise the light, simply set the knob to the desired position.

Fog light setting

Toyota Camry headlight adjustment also includes foglight adjustment. Pledge correct operation of these light sources is their correct installation. There are certain guidelines for installation. fog lights:

  • level above the ground - 250 mm;
  • fog lights should not protrude beyond the main optics of the car. It is advisable to fix them 400-600 mm from the headlights;
  • The efficiency of the fog lights will be noticeably reduced if not properly adjusted.

The steps for setting up foglights are as follows:

  1. The mobile screen is moved 7 meters from the car. If you are using a wall, then just drive the car to the desired distance.
  2. Mark the centers of the headlights, step back from them 10 cm and draw a horizontal line.
  3. Drive the car another 6-7 meters away from the wall (or move the screen) and turn on the fog lights again.
  4. If the light is set correctly, then its upper border should pass along the horizontal line drawn earlier. Optimal Distance between the centers of the beams - 120 cm.

Checking the settings

After adjusting the headlights, they must be tested. To do this, wait for the dark time of the day (when testing fog lights, foggy weather will be an ideal test), and then evaluate the comfort of using optics. If before that you had problems with this system of the car, then you will immediately feel positive changes. It will be more convenient for you to drive the car, and the surrounding drivers will not feel discomfort from your appearance on the road.

On all cars, headlights need to be adjusted from time to time. This may be necessary after any intervention in the design, for example, replacing light bulbs, and also if the headlight began to shine in the wrong direction. Toyota Corolla headlight adjustment in the back of 150, 100, 110, 120, 121 is approximately the same, so you can consider this action using a general example.

How to make settings?

Headlight adjustment may well be done by hand, despite the fact that this process is quite laborious and can cause certain difficulties. It is not always possible to adjust the headlight the first time. More often, car owners turn to workshops, where an experienced specialist provides assistance.

If you have a desire to try to adjust the headlight yourself, then it will not hurt you to study in detail the instructions on how to do this.

Preparing for setup

The headlight adjustment process is divided into several stages. Start with thorough preparation. Check if the car body is deformed, how the optics are. As a result of an accident, a displacement may occur, and then simple adjustment will no longer help: you will first need to make a full repair of optics and bodywork.

Check oil level, fill full tank gasoline: this is required in order for the car to have the necessary weight balance.

In addition, it is important to correctly inflate the tires. If this is not done, the optics adjustment will not bring the desired result. Salon and trunk will need to be freed from foreign objects, tools. The controlled vehicle must not be empty. Behind the wheel must be a person whose weight is about 75 kg.

If the adjustment is manual, you will need to set the zero value. If the Corolla is more recent, such as 2008 or later, it may have adjustable suspension: in this case, it should be lowered as low as possible.

Second stage of work

After the preparation has been carried out, you can begin to adjust the headlights. In order to better understand how to do this, it is recommended to watch a video on the topic.

It is important that the car is level when setting up. Opposite it should be a wall located exactly at an angle of 90 degrees. You need to adjust in the dark, when you can clearly see how the headlights shine. That is why it is more convenient to use the services of a car service, since finding appropriate place pretty hard.

Measure 25 meters from the wall and park the car there. If there is not enough space, you can measure three meters. Since there is no adjustment screen on the wall, you can use chalk or drawing paper. In the middle of the sheet you need to draw a vertical line; it is necessary to accurately observe the angles and distances. After that, you will need to draw axes along which you can navigate.

General light set up without centerlines is somehow allowed, but check it out correct work almost impossible, besides, they will be required to adjust the high beam, which must be taken with special attention. Incorrectly configured, it will either not illuminate the road sufficiently, or it will blind drivers of oncoming cars.

It is worth paying attention to the fact that the center lines for the high and low beams are different.

You will need to put marks on the lamps, usually they are already on the headlights from the factory.

What do the lines mean?

The height of the horizontal line must correspond to the marks that are applied to the optics by the factory.

The lines on the left and right sides, should be vertical. It is important that they also match the manufacturer's marks left on the headlights. These lines must necessarily cross the horizontal line. After all the marks are applied to the drawing paper, and it is fixed on the wall, you can proceed to the direct adjustment of the headlights.

How is the adjustment made?

You will need to start the car and turn on the headlights to check how well the lines printed on the paper coincide with the boundaries of the headlights.

You do not need to separately adjust the dipped and high beam, since the device of the optics is such that the adjustment of one element leads to the automatic adjustment of the other to it.

The headlights have a special screw that helps to carry out the adjustment; Don't push too hard on it as it can break easily. Adjustment is carried out with a screwdriver. You will need to do this until all the lines match. Well-adjusted headlights clearly border on the drawn lines. The screw rotates clockwise. Sometimes it happens that the headlights look up, in order to fix this, the screw can be unscrewed a little.

You need to adjust first vertically, then horizontally. When all the lines match, the adjustment process can be considered completed. If the screw is broken, it will be more difficult to cope with the task, but it can be drilled out and replaced with another one. The main thing is not to damage the thread during operation.

Conclusion

Setting the headlights will not take much time if you correctly approach this process and follow all the recommendations correctly. The main difficulty is finding a flat surface and walls, so it is more convenient to contact a car service.

Adjusting the light of the head optics is a rather complicated process. Make settings for modern cars should be a specialist or a person who has already figured out this difficult matter. As a rule, not many people manage to clearly adjust the headlights the first time, since there are many nuances when adjusting. Adjusting the headlights on a Toyota Corolla is a feasible process only if you clearly follow the instructions and instructions. But before you start setting the headlights, you should thoroughly prepare the car for this process.

Preparatory stage for adjusting the optics

Before talking about setting the headlights and considering step by step instructions by setting them up, it is worth thoroughly preparing your Corolla for this process. For this we need:

  • Make sure that the car body in the area of the headlights does not have deformed places, be sure to check the correctness of the installed optics;
  • Secondly, we need to make sure that the oil in the car is filled to the required level;
  • Thirdly, you need to check the tire pressure. It is very important that all tires are inflated equally;
  • Before adjusting the headlights, we need to completely free the trunk from all that is superfluous;
  • Pour a full tank of gasoline - it is necessary for the car to be fully balanced;
  • It is necessary to put a person in the driver's seat in the region of 75 kg;
  • In cars with manual adjustment, it is necessary to set the value to "0", exactly as shown in the picture below;
  • And finally, if the Toyota Corolla has an adjustable suspension, then it must be lowered as much as possible.

Having prepared the Toyota Corolla itself, we proceed to the next point - you need to select and prepare the place where the head optics will be adjusted. The machine must be placed against the wall in a dark place, it must be exactly at an angle of 90 degrees with respect to the wall.

In addition, you need to set a distance of 25 meters from the wall, if the distance is not enough, you can place the car 3 meters away.

After the Corolla and the place are prepared, we need whatman paper to replace the screen or wall. On paper, you need to draw a vertical line clearly in the middle. You need to do it exactly as the picture shows - observing the angles and distance.

After installing the “screen”, you need to draw the remaining lines, or rather the axes, exactly as the figure shows. Here it is important to know:

  • The center lines for checking the low and high beams of the head optics are different;
  • It is necessary to mark the lamps of the optics, preferably which are used as a mark of the center by the manufacturer. As a rule, these marks are on the headlights.

Now let's deal with the lines. Horizontal - this is the level of marks on the optics by manufacturers, that is, on the drawing paper there should be a line at the same height as the marks of the manufacturers on it.

The left and right lines correspond to the same mark of the manufacturer, only they are already located vertically. You need to draw them so that they cross the horizontal. Having done this, you can proceed to the adjustment itself.

Checking and adjusting optics on a Toyota Corolla

First of all, we start the engine. After that, we turn on the optics and check whether the boundary lines of light coincide with the lines on the drawing paper. We do everything exactly as indicated in the diagram below.

It is necessary to adjust only one glow, either high beam or low beam - this is due to the fact that the optics is a single unit, where adjusting one parameter automatically adjusts the second parameter.

To adjust vertically, we need to turn the screw, which is located on the optics, exactly where it is indicated in the photo.

Adjustment must be done with a screwdriver. It is necessary to adjust in accordance with the above scheme, where it is necessary to achieve correspondence in the lines of light with the lines on the drawing paper.

The screw turns clockwise, however, if the headlights are strongly pulled up, the screw must be slightly unscrewed.

Having adjusted the vertical of the glow, we proceed to the horizontal adjustment. Again, with a screwdriver, we adjust by tightening another screw, the location of which is indicated in the figure.

Having adjusted the horizontal according to the drawing paper, we can consider the process of setting the head optics finished. We twist whatman paper, but do not throw it away. Maybe it will come in handy for you or your friends. Difficult process or not, you be the judge, but do not deny that you have to try to do everything right.
