Review of the new Skoda Yeti. Video review of the Skoda Yeti car in the TopGear program

The car really turned out to be very peculiar. Despite the fact that the Yeti has been on sale in Russia for almost a couple of years, it still looks like a black sheep in the stream of cars. Its name looks frivolous for a solid car, and the expression "muzzle" is the subject of endless controversy. Tech-savvy people are also alarmed by the modest displacement of the engine: the base motor with a working volume of 1.2 liters will seem insufficient for a small city car, and even on a crossover it looks like nonsense! But for a long time this engine remained the only option for those who wanted a gasoline car with an “automatic”.

The dealers themselves added fuel to the fire: those "Yeti" that were in stock often turned out to be stuffed with options unnecessary for an ordinary buyer. Agree, you need to have a fair amount of determination to buy a "SUV" with a 1.2 engine at the price of a million! For that kind of money, you can already choose a more powerful and more spacious SUV. All this did not allow Skoda to rise above the modest tenth place in the sales ranking.

After the all-wheel drive version of the 1.8TSI with the DSG "robot" appeared in August, sales of the "Yeti" went uphill. Now dealers are actively expanding stocks in warehouses, attracting a variety of modifications with equipment and prices for every taste.

The Yeti is not a self-selling car. Only after the first kilometers is he able to fully demonstrate his advantages. Both an enthusiastic young lady and a gray-haired uncle without complexes can choose this car. Sellers, by the way, never cease to be amazed at how adults, being behind the wheel of a "Czech", begin to rejoice like little children.

How much is?

It is easy to appreciate the cost advantages of the Yeti even before you get to know it. For the basic "Active-1,2" they ask 729,000 rubles - nowadays it is much cheaper than other models of the "golf" class cost. And the closest competitors ASX and Qashqai are more expensive by 20 and 51 thousand, respectively. At the same time, Skoda boasts decent basic equipment, which includes air conditioning and full power accessories, as well as heated mirrors, seats and washer nozzles. For a person of modest requests, it is enough to add an alarm and an MP3 radio to this set - and then for 749,600 he will receive a completely comfortable front-wheel drive crossover. If you do not take into account the Chinese manufacturers, then "Active-1,2TSI" can be considered the most advantageous offer among crossovers.

Moreover, the "Yeti" with the automatic transmission, in the role of which is the "robot" DSG, turns out to be even more profitable. The price of the box bites (60,000 rubles), but in addition to it you get ESP. And if we compare such a Skoda with competitors, it turns out that Nissan and Mitsubishi with a gun are forced to fork out for much more expensive modifications with powerful and expensive engines. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that 1.2DSG is the most popular version of the Yeti.

But the engine, like the Passat, and the four-wheel drive transfer the Skoda to a completely different price category. "Active-1.8TSI" already costs from 929 thousand with "mechanics" and 969 thousand with DSG. In this configuration, the Yeti turns into a full-fledged SUV. It is this "Skoda" that can confidently resist the thoroughbred competitors from Europe - "Tiguanu" and "Kuge". And at the same time it turns out to be much cheaper than any of them.

Frustration sets in, one has only to look at the price list of additional equipment. Some of the options are unreasonably expensive. And if from non-Russian navigation for 76 400 rubles. or from a panoramic roof for 41,600 rubles. it is easy to refuse, then you do not want to sacrifice safety at all. And there is such a temptation: if you add to the pair of default pillows four "sides", window and knee air bags for the driver, then the price of the car will increase by 51,700 rubles at once. It's fair to say that airbags can be added selectively.

Prices for other items are also high: a three-spoke steering wheel trimmed with leather costs 11,800, metallic - 15,800, front and rear parking sensors - 25,600 rubles. But even despite the immodestness of the options, the all-wheel drive "Skoda" still remains a profitable purchase! If you are careful when choosing, then even the all-wheel drive 1.8TSI will be able to keep within a million. Forking the same thousand for a hundred, you will get a car equipped with both Volkswagen and Ford, but at the same time 8-12% cheaper than Tiguan and Coogee.

Do not forget about useful cheap options that will not affect the final price too noticeably, but will bring tangible joy. A tray under the right seat, a table with cup holders in the back of the central back row seat, a double sun visor, an eyeglass case - these little things cost around one to two thousand rubles. And although configured for yourself "Yeti" will have to wait three to four months, the wait is worth it, believe me!

Outside and inside

Evaluating Skoda from a practical point of view, I would like to praise its creators for a very appropriate body kit made of unpainted plastic around the perimeter and sensible moldings. Body varnish with such protection will be much easier to maintain.

The interior of the car, in contrast to the frivolous appearance, looks surprisingly adult and thoroughly thought out. In terms of the quality of materials, the interior is fully consistent with the class of an expensive car from Europe. Like most competitors, the plastic is soft and very pleasant to the touch. Regardless of whether the interior is trimmed with expensive leather or democratic fabric, it looks upscale. The buyer is free to choose the interior trim to his liking - up to the color of the plastic. If the gray palette evokes melancholy, then you can ask to perform the interior in light sand tones.

The salon pleases with spaciousness. And this despite the small wheelbase. There is enough space in the back both in the legs and over the head, and the width of the sofa allows two adult passengers to sit with acceptable comfort, seating a teenager up to a heap on the central part. The very organization of the back row is generally worthy of emulation. The chairs can be moved back and forth in the range of 15 cm, and the back has four positions - the tilt angle is also adjustable. At first glance, some of the chairs seem rather stiff and narrow. But the shape, the filler, the profile, and the adjustments give out the work of specialists who know a lot about the ergonomics of landing.

The central narrow part of the sofa can be removed, and the side seats can be moved a dozen centimeters closer to each other. In such a 4-seater configuration, the Yeti can comfortably accommodate even people of heroic build.

Needless to say, the engineers have not forgotten about the comfort of the front passenger. You should not save 2300 rubles by refusing to adjust the seat height: thanks to them, it is easier to move a long journey.

Loading suitcases

As soon as you open the fifth door and your gaze appears, though rather modest in size, but possessing the correct shape of the trunk, equipped with practical hooks and fastening nets. Even if the five of you are traveling, you can easily take your three largest suitcases with you - all you need to do is remove the shelf.

Engineers have foreseen the possibility of turning the cabin into a cargo area with a flat floor measuring one and a half meters. The total useful cargo volume in this case will be 1.76 m 3. This is already comparable to the best station wagons. In this case, the truth will have to unscrew the foam caches from the floor in the trunk and take out the "spare tire". But such measures will help to do good deeds - for example, help friends with the move. And then it will be their turn to enjoy the possibilities of your "Yeti".

Finally, if you pay extra 3500 rubles. behind the folding back of the front seat, you can even carry skis up to 2.5 m long in the cabin without a noticeable loss in passenger capacity. Perhaps you can hardly find another compact crossover with such generous transformation possibilities!

Behind the wheel

You will surely be pleased with the simple but effective solutions behind the wheel of the Yeti. At first, you will have to get used to a more vertical landing than in other machines. But as soon as you get used to it, you will understand that it promises solid advantages. For example, you will always be able to see the dimensions of the car, including the edges of the hood. And, remembering that the feed ends immediately behind the rear "wiper", it will be possible not to spend money on parking sensors.

Thanks to the careful study of the driver's seat, you will not get tired in it even after a whole day in Moscow traffic jams. The seat has been designed with people of all sizes in mind. The height can be varied within 8 cm, and the range of longitudinal adjustment is 27 cm. And only inches with a height below 160 cm may complain about the excessively raised front edge of the pillow.

And although the Skoda salon is very well thought out, there is something to find fault with in the Yeti. For example, by quickly rotating the steering wheel, you can hook the radio sound control wheel located on the spoke. Or "Volkswagen" joystick for adjusting the mirrors, located on the vertical plane of the door panel. Controlling it, you have to unnaturally twist the left hand. But this was the case on the previous "Golf" and "Passat" and is available on many "Skodas". This disadvantage can be safely neglected, since you rarely have to manipulate the joystick.

If you prefer to sit closer to the steering wheel, lowering it down, you will find that the steering wheel covers the top of the speedometer. The problem can be solved by ordering the Maxi-Dot display: in it, the speed is duplicated on the screen between the scales of analog devices.

On the roads ...

The basic turbocharged engine with a volume of only 1197 "cubes" is as lucky as many 1.6-liter units are not able to. At least up to 80 km / h "Yeti" accelerates easily, but with increasing speed, the agility gradually subsides. If at a speed of over a hundred you need to overtake the slow-moving vehicle, then you will not need to press the gas to the floor - half the pedal stroke is enough. DSG instantly throws off three steps at once, slipping the motor into third gear instead of seventh gear, and you will feel a confident pickup. You can whip up the Yeti in advance by switching the box to sport mode. And then the engine speed will not drop below 2000 rpm.

The 105-horsepower engine got such agility thanks to the turbocharging. The torque of 175 Nm comes from 1500 rpm. Only after a speed of 120–130 km / h do you begin to feel that the possibilities of the motor are not limitless. It should be noted that with the "mechanics", thanks to the short (4.35: 1) main pair, the 1.2TSI engine gets along no less harmoniously. The engine is guaranteed not to stall, even for those who are not too delicate with the long-stroke clutch pedal.

With a 152-horsepower 1.8-liter engine, the Yeti drives even faster. Almost fifty additional "horses" allow you to get rid of the feeling of lack of power, which is present behind the wheel of the basic version. But even with such a "Yeti" you should keep in mind some nuances. For example, when driving slowly, a 1.8TSI with a manual gearbox unexpectedly turns out to be more demanding on revs than a weaker engine. A powerful power unit has a much longer main pair, and the pick-up moment, when the turbine reaches effective speed, is perceived much brighter. So, as a result, the driving rhythm turns out to be somewhat ragged, and this can be leveled only in one way - to twist the motor from below, which is not always convenient.

From the point of view of traction control, the closest to the ideal is 1.8TSI with a "robot" DSG. The turbo lag effect is not so pronounced here, and thanks to the Sport mode it can be canceled out, and you will always get even solid traction. The car accelerates so quickly that driving it under the traffic rules is a real test! Against this background, powerful brakes are in place. To stop from 100 km / h, it will take only 38 m, which is almost the best result among classmates.

As for the chassis, even here the Yeti can be considered an almost round excellent student. The car keeps a straight line on the asphalt spoiled by the track. By the way, stability will be even higher if you prefer 17-inch wheels to the standard 16-inch wheels. And although the suspension may seem harsh to some, you will soon find it comfortable enough. And although the Skoda sometimes shakes too much, the chassis does not allow swinging on the wave and easily swallows large potholes.

Quiet in the cabin under all conditions, and in measured driving mode, and when accelerating assertively. The base engine turned out to be the quietest, and the more restive 1.8 grumbles a little louder. Among other sounds, one can complain about the hum from the wheel arches when the car goes on rough asphalt.

The actual consumption of the base engine is only about 9 liters in the city and 8–8.5 liters on the highway at a speed of 120 km / h. Outside the city, 1.8TSI is only a liter more gluttonous, and in city traffic you should count on 12 liters per hundred. It should be noted that during a long drive in the "gas to the floor" mode, both engines swallow gasoline in buckets - up to 15 liters.

And without them

Off-road, the front-wheel drive base "Yeti" is, in fact, an ordinary passenger car. But the 1.8TSI-4x4 is easily capable of plowing paths inaccessible to most "non-driven" cars. Skoda's all-terrain capabilities should be recognized as quite decent: the Haldex clutch, which distributes the moment, works with preload; and therefore, there will be no complaints about the speed of its operation. And the crossover's geometric cross-country ability is decent: the propeller shaft and the exhaust system hang above the thresholds - and this, by the way, is an impressive 22 cm.The plastic protection is separated from the ground by 18 cm.

The cross-country ability of the Skoda would be even better if the car did not have such a long front overhang, which greatly interferes with the assault on hillocks. In addition, you need to be able to finely control traction, with the assistance of DSG this is, again, easier to do than on a car with "mechanics". By the way, the 1.8-liter "Yeti" is equipped with a 6-speed DSG with "wet" discs, which is more reliable than the seven-speed "dry". So even skidding to your heart's content, you are unlikely to ruin the transmission.

Safety

In terms of safety, Skoda holds the bar high. In the EuroNCAP tests, the car scored 33 points, becoming an all-round excellent student. Isofix hinges are provided for attaching child seats to the rear seats. As expected, you can use the "child" lock for the rear doors and power windows.

The Yeti with 7 airbags and active front head restraints received such a high rating in crash tests. Today, this is a necessary minimum, which must necessarily be on a modern car. In Russia, the Yeti has only two pillows in the first two versions, and two more are added to the top-end configuration. However, buyers can be secure at their own expense: in the case of the optimal level of equipment "Active", this can be done for 40,200 rubles. - so much is a set of pillows hidden in the sidewalls of the front seats, inflatable "curtains" along the entire length of the cabin and a knee air bag under the steering wheel. The last chord can be the rear side airbags for 10,500 rubles.

Operation, service

In terms of service "Yeti" does not stand out for anything special. The service interval is standard for most European cars - 15,000 km or once a year. Dealers do not impose additional work on replacing candles, fluids, filters or checking convergence / collapse, but only recommend in cases where it is really necessary. It turns out that about 13-15 thousand rubles should be set aside for the most expensive even maintenance.

The car warranty is valid for two years without any mileage limitation. At the same time, there is no shortage of dealerships in the capitals: for example, there are 19 of them in Moscow, 10 in St. Petersburg, and in total the Skoda network spreads over 69 cities of Russia.

"Yeti" cannot be called unambiguously a women's, youth, family or old man's car. Nimble, comfortable, with a noble interior decoration and the widest in the class possibilities for transforming the cabin, it will also immediately distinguish you as a person free from stereotypes. And if you think carefully about the choice of options, then within 1.1 million rubles you will get, perhaps, the most profitable compact crossover.

Source - magazine Behind the wheel

Good day to all. Before the Yeti, he owned many cars, both domestic and imported. Before Bigfoot was FF2 Restayl 2.0 manual transmission Titanium, dashed off 47tkm on it, you can read my review in the corresponding thread. I began to think about changing a car 2 years after the purchase - I usually drive cars for no more than 3 years, I did not even think about this car. Passing by him, he told his wife that I would definitely never buy a monstrous Yeto for anything. Budget 1.2-1.3 cartoon, no credits. The car is either new or slightly worn. I considered the options Teany / Teany Four, Tseshki 204, Superba. Trips to relatives in winter on weekends outside the city made their own adjustments, in a car it was somehow sad to wade through the snowdrifts and wonder whether you would get stuck or not. Began to consider crossovers. Ikstrail, Qashqai + 2, Forik, Kuga, Tiguan, Rav4 ... And then, and it was already at the beginning of winter, my friend comes to work on the Yeti. I ask him, why did you get it (a friend has a fleet of vehicles that includes the E-class and TLK), yes, he says, you look at this miracle, take a ride, then you will understand. I went for a test drive Yeti and ... was pleasantly surprised. And all of them. Dynamics of 1.8T, transformation of the cabin (no car of this level has 3 seats behind that ride on a sled, everything is removed, the backrest tilt is adjustable), a convenient on-board computer from which you can control almost everything, decent music. In general, this car hooked me. At work I met my friend, talked to him on the topic: “Why do you need this animal, you already have others in the stable”, and in the beginning of spring I took the car from him for very good money. As a result: a one-year-old Yeti of Czech assembly (that's why he took it from a friend, and did not take a new GAZ-assembled car, because the Czech Republic has the best VAG plant), Elegance, 1.8T, DSG6 equipment, four-wheel drive, rag, electric drives of everything, except for the passenger seats, among other things, do not make it on the Yeti, maksidot, touchscreen radio Balero, multi-wheel, dual-zone climate, pop-ups and much more. Mileage at the time of purchase was 9500 km. During the year of operation, the mileage was 24000 km, now 33500 km. You can summarize. What was done. Styling was done - the roof, mirrors were covered with vinyl, arch extenders, pillars on the pillars, door / hood stickers from the off-road package, door sills, ordered summer carpet mats, bought a set of 17 discs for the summer (I also took the car on 17 discs in the winter rubber), composite protection, heat / sound insulation of the hood, gas shock absorber of the hood, the taillights are tightened with good American film - those who like to throw slop are in a hurry to disappoint - 3M has excellent light transmission ability, until I was convinced, I did not do it. It is through all the cheap rubbish that you can't see whether the light is on or not, I can see everything perfectly in any light, both at night and on a sunny day. After trips to long-distance people with a hunting and fishing shmurdyak, I came to the conclusion that there is not enough dynamics - moving along the concrete road with a boat, engine, junk, climate turned on in a situation when you need to quickly go around a truck dusting in front of you at a speed of 110, when you press Accelerator response, of course, is, but I feel sorry for the car, as it throws off from 6th gear to 3rd and rushes forward growling. Therefore, it was decided to chipanut Yetik on stage 1, Amet who is in the subject will understand (thank him very much). It was then that the machine came to life - 220 horsepower and 330 newtons provide a significant margin of power under the hood. Additionally, the XDS stabilization system was activated (generally a cool thing). If you are a purely city dweller, I think that there is no sense in chipovka for an engine to move around the city under the cameras is quite enough, enough to play pranks, but not enough for the highway, IMHO. I thought to flash on stage 2 and do everything related to this, but I thought that about 100 coins would pour out for Dorset's dad, including replacing the brakes, and it was already invested in the car more than decently and my wife stopped understanding my enthusiasm, when after every salary he sat down order new arrivals from Prague. Yes, and on fishing, I no longer needed an additional 50 horses))) By the way, from the Czech Republic everything turns out to be an order of magnitude cheaper, because in Moscow VAG tuning accessories are very expensive. Those. I carry out service at OD, Mobile 0w40 oil through 7-8tkm. Oil change about 5-6tr., TO30 about 8-9tr. Exploitation. Steering the car is very cheerful, thanks to the XDS (axle traction distribution system), almost like a front-wheel drive. Consumption in the summer is about 10.5-11 in a city with a climate, in winter 11-12. On the highway, about 10-10.5 at 140-150, about 9 at 100-120. After 150, the ride is not comfortable. I only fill up 98 gasoline. The suspension, in my opinion, is harsh, but thanks to it, the handling is very decent. In principle, there is no oil-eating. I took a liter for topping up, for 20t.km maybe half topped up. No comments. DSG does not twitch. In winter, the car did not warm up well, put a protective plastic screen on the radiator, at the next maintenance the dealer said that the lower passenger air duct was poorly fastened, tightened. It became normal. To keep it completely warm, put preheaters, there is a branch about this at the Yeti Club. I decided not to put it, my swallow is in the garage. By the way, it was much warmer in Focus. Of course, I didn’t venture into serious off-road, but I drove from the highway along the dirt road to the river after a rain. Until you put the Yeti on its belly, it crawls. A small enough glove compartment (after the Focus), on the other hand I put my hat, gloves and service book there. By the way, it is refrigerated, you can cool a bottle of water in the heat. There is also a box for small things under the passenger seat, glove compartment on top of the torpedo, capacious pockets in the doors. The plastic in the cabin is not uniform, on the dashboard it is pleasant, soft, on the doors - hard. The rapids, like everywhere else, are scratchy, this is facilitated by old grandmothers and children, in short, old and young, who does not normally raise his legs and does not appreciate someone else's work. Frontal - rubbish, once I changed it for CASCO, now everything is cut, but whole. It's a pity that it is unheated - I'm used to it at Ford. I also wanted to put it on Skoda, but this involves replacing the climate unit, which is a little expensive. And it’s not really necessary, especially in the garage, I’m just used to it))) The head light is rubbish (I have halogens), I don’t see the point of putting a collective farm xenon, putting my own is problematic, it is crookedly stitched in the on-board computer. I put OSRAM lamps, it seems + 20%, it became normal. The seat, at least the driver's one, is very comfortable. You go to dalnyak when your back is numb, you roll the lumbar support up and down and again everything is ok. Surprisingly, there is a lot of space in the back. I sit behind me normally (height 186, 95kg). I sat down in the Pasfinder - it's closer there. The trunk is small, but I don't carry refrigerators and cabinets. There are several convenient tool niches, a full-size spare wheel fits. If necessary, Varioflex drives, the rear seats can be folded or removed in a couple of minutes, all that is needed fits. If it doesn't fit, there are Gazelles and other trucks. And so, 80% of the time I go alone. Visibility is normal, the right mirror goes down when the reverse gear is engaged, the driver's one is autochromatic. The racks do not interfere, or maybe just got used to it. Parktronic works very adequately, information is displayed on the display of the radio. But the rain sensor works by itself. By the way, the Yeti is not expensive CASCO - this year it cost me 28.5t.r. Problems. Two dime-sized pieces of paint fell off the front doors. Painted under warranty. I ordered new anti-gravel stickers with mats in Prague (((They said that the problem is due to the too hard seal of the rear doors, they rub the ends of the front doors, moisture gets into the microcracks, as a result the paint peels off. The seals were also changed. The problem is not a single one, many Yeti the front doors are painted for this reason. If you take a car and the owner beats himself in the chest with the heel that he didn’t paint the door, he’s either cheating, or you have to do it. Well, purely hypothetically, perhaps a miracle happened after all. Although this did not happen on my Czech car. There were no more problems TTT))) Summing up the above. I like Snowflake (as my wife and I call), like everyone has pluses, there are minuses, in my opinion there are more pluses. I do not plan to sell in the next year, but then we will see. If you are thinking about buying a Bigfoot - take a ride, listen to yourself, is it your car, or not. For the best car is the one that you like and that is within your means. As the operation progresses, I will supplement the review. I wish you all good luck on the road, not a nail, not a rod!

Bigfoot's trunk - not that small

And yet it will be summer! The sun is shining and ... it's time to balance the set of summer wheels))) The size of the tires is 225x50x17, everything fits into the trunk normally, whether it's a lot or a little - it's up to you. My opinion is that it is very worthy. Good luck to all!

The 50-tonne milestone has been passed!

Hello, friends! So another year has flown by with my Snowflake. Today the mileage is 50600 km, of which 41 km are mine. During the year, 17tkm were covered. The car regularly drove me almost everywhere (almost - because I don’t poke my head into shit, and sometimes I want to), where I needed it, started up in any weather, pleased with dynamics and economy. And he continues to delight. Not without unscheduled financial injections. In October I went to close the navigation to the Vazuzskoe v / v. On the way back to the M9 I filled the tank with 98 at the "Trassa" gas station and after 400 km I "ran out" of the fuel pump. An autopsy showed that the mesh was clogged, together with the fuel pump, the high-voltage coil of the 2nd cylinder "ran out". Replacement with work got up at 20tr, did it at the officials. At the same time, I rolled the car back to the stock settings, because they cannot carry out diagnostics, like. Where did those times go and the masters who wrote out the diagnosis by ear, and determined the CO by smell ... After the chip, driving on the drain is sooooo sad, you have to turn the engine harder, respectively, the consumption is higher and the dynamics are worse. After the repair, I stitched the car for 95 gasoline, switched to Lukoil Euro. By the way, by the flow rate. Last summer, I conducted an experiment, drove along the highway on a cruise of 80 km / h without kondeya, the consumption was 5.9 liters))) At the moment, the average consumption is 10.5 liters in the combined cycle (I did not reset the on-board computer about 2tkm), I went on weekends fishing, consumption with a clogged trunk and 2 carcasses at a speed of 140 about 12 liters. When driving quietly along the Khimki-Solnechnogorsk route at a speed of 80-90, the consumption is about 8 liters. Which is good news))) At the next TO 45, the right stabilizer bar was changed, after 3 tkm the left one knocked. Did it from a friend of the master, he was very surprised why they changed one rack for TO, and not a couple. Also at TO 45 in January I changed the windshield according to CASCO and, under warranty, painted the front bumper and changed the lower black plastic part of the bumper according to CASCO (rested against the column). I tightened it with transparent vinyl so that it would not be sandblasted or flogged with pebbles. Less than a month later, another stone flew into my windshield, and again changed the windshield for CASCO. Alfa-Insurance decided that I was a loss-making client and refused to renew the contract for 2015, although they have no ice insurance conditions for non-warranty cars. Went to Ingos, CASCO cost 45tr. There were no more repairs and expenses. The pads are native, the suspension does not knock, in general, everything is in order. I still change the oil after 7.5 tkm, the other day I checked the level for 5.5 tkm after replacing the level moved from a position just above half to just below half on the dipstick. Those. there was no buttermonger and no. The DSG does not kick, although I shore the box, I drive in manual mode in traffic jams, when I stop for more than 10 seconds I put it in position N, and, accordingly, when I put it on Parking, I put it on the handbrake. In general, I am satisfied with the car, I think it is a good option for a city car for every day with rare trips to nature on easy off-road and trips along the highway. I am slowly wondering what to change the Bigfoot for, but I have not yet decided on my Wishlist. I will add a few photos - what gets into the car and where it climbs calmly))) If you have any questions - ask, I will be happy to answer. Peace for everyone! Not a nail, not a rod!

A few words about DSG reliability

Good day to all! As usual, when a review about VAG products appears, a wild hysteria begins that these are fatty TSIs with free-flowing DSGs. Fuuu ... Aspirated and torque converters are our everything! Well, it is written mainly by those who have never ridden turbo engines and robots, but heard or even saw somewhere, or who had experience in operating tired cars. 90% of people who are doing well, do not scribble reviews on the network, they do not need this - see for yourself how many reviews are in total on Automotive News, there are many times more cars. Everything can be broken. Even an M6 bolt, if desired, with bare hands. My friends have 3 Octavias on DSG7, TSI 1.4 and 1.8, Yeti 1.2. There is also Rapid and Octavia MPI 6AT. So, 2 comrades on Oktahs 1.8 7 DSG were annealed, after the purchase - a puppy's delight: "Ooooh, the car is knocking down, fire, brother! From Zelik to Solntsegrad 10 minutes is not the limit, Micha Schumacher is ill, I am for him!" The results were quite natural - everything about which there is a sad glory: both the zhor of oil, and the kicks of the box, then they also climbed into the dviguns (he put one in the garages for Uncle Vasya, and he disassembled the engine and forgot how to assemble, the second has its own service , well, like we change the oil pads, cho, we can't cure TSI or something ...). Yes, and the problems started at 80-90 tkm runs. Another comrade rolls 1.4 for almost 150tkm. 3rd children, very friendly with the head. He drives fine, does not indulge in kickdowns from traffic lights to traffic lights at 200m. I changed the clutch twice for 50 and 100 tkm under warranty. There is no butter oil. The car is not going to sell. Satisfied. Yeti 1.2 was on the mechanics - no problem at all. Just no problem. There was no buttermonger at all. The car was sold in connection with the transition to a higher class. Rapid is still new, there is nothing bad to say about it. Octaha 1.6 MPI 6AT unkillable option. But the dynamics are also zero. So, DSG7, with a normal driving style, requires attention (clutch replacement) about once every 50-70tkm, the issue price is 25-40tr. DSG 6 walks without interfering with its life activity 100-120tkm. The price of replacing the clutch is about the same. The price of a contract box is about 60-90tr., Mechatronics repair is 25-35tr. IMHO, the prices are quite adequate. And if we take into account the fuel economy (my FF2 2.0 145hp 5MKPP consumed a little more fuel than the Yeti 1.8 220hp 6DSG), with the same input data (engine power and gearbox type), then the difference in consumption will be from 2 to 5 liters per 100 km. And for 50-100tkm the difference will still be such that it is cheaper to repair the DSG. By the way, if you anneal on good old Aisin, he will not say thanks either. By the way, the 1.8TSI contract engine costs 120tr. - not such an exorbitant price. So, to sum up, I will say this: love and take care of your cars and they will answer you the same. If a sporty driving style is closer to you, take a prepared car and get ready to keep it, which is not cheap. Stock unitary cars do not like operation with increased loads and require additional unplanned financial investments. Peace to everyone, good luck on the road!

91tkm on Yeti

So the car is sold. We can summarize. Since the last recall I have driven 41tkm. The car did not bring any surprises and surprises on the technical side. The butter oil, as it was with the purchase, remained, about 100 grams per 1000 km. Before the sale, I did TO90 and took off the logs - all without comment. The suspension was diagnosed - no comments. But, according to my estimates, after 100 km / h the car will start asking for money (replacement of the chain and tensioner, suspension, brake discs). The main claims are for LCP. After 3 years of operation, something constantly peeled off and tk. I was thrown off balance, I drove the car to a local tint. In general, Yettik left fond memories. If the question arose, I would have taken such a car again - yes, I just would not have wrapped it in vinyl and styled it. With the rise in the exchange rate, it became far from budgetary. Peace for everyone! Not a nail, not a rod!

The Czech car "Skoda Yeti" was released in 2009. It is a compact family crossover with an unusual appearance. Moreover, the nice appearance of the car does not at all correspond to the terrifying name of the car. Today we will analyze this model in detail and answer the question in the review: is the Skoda Yeti a handsome man or a monster?

Which Skoda Yeti engine is better

The Yeti has a lot of interesting engines. Among them - the most common 1.2 liter TSI (with a turbine), which "blows" 105 horsepower. There is also an internal combustion engine of 1.4 liters TSI, 122 liters. with., and classic atmospheric 1.6 liters, 110 liters. With.

The most interesting engine - for the all-wheel drive version - 1.8 liters TSI 152 hp. With. In combination with 6 manual gearboxes or DSG ("robot"), the car easily overcomes simple mud or snow-covered areas. At the same time, he sparingly "eats" gasoline - an average of about 10 liters of mixed consumption. Acceleration for this engine is good - up to 100 km / h the mechanics need only 8.4 seconds, and for the "robot" - 9 seconds.

How the chassis works

The model can be front- and all-wheel drive. An electronically controlled Heldex clutch is responsible for the four-wheel drive. At speeds up to 30 km / h, it automatically controls the connection of the rear axle, depending on the road conditions.

A MacPherson strut suspension is installed in the front, and a multi-link suspension in the rear. Together they allow you to smoothly pass bumps and confidently maneuver on the track. A short wheelbase of 4222 mm and sufficient ground clearance of 180 mm help to feel equally confident off-road.

Will it be comfortable in "Yeti": salon, equipment, options

As many as 9 airbags are responsible for passive safety in the car. Including - a knee airbag for the driver and one common for rear passengers.

The rear seat backs can be folded independently of each other - each of the three independently. In addition, the central part can be removed altogether by moving the two side seats towards the center. Thus, we get a four-seater car with a side-by-side comfortable in width for two passengers.

Since we have a modern car, even in the "standard" it has everything you need from electronic systems: ABS, EBD, EBA, ASR, etc., helping to avoid accidents.

Depending on the configuration, the Skoda Yeti can be completely leather, combined or fabric interior. And in the maximum version, bi-xenon headlights, a rain sensor, cruise control, dual-zone climate control, parking sensors, full power accessories, multimedia with navigation and even a car park are available.

How much is the Skoda Yeti

The average cost of a Skoda Yeti, according to Avto.ru price statistics, is 606,100 rubles.

For this money, you can, for example, buy a front-wheel drive model of 2014 with a 1.2-liter gasoline engine and a manual transmission:

But the most popular modification is the model with a 1.2-liter petrol "engine" 105 hp. c. and RKPP:

You can buy such a Skoda from 470 thousand rubles (in 2011) to 1,440,000 rubles (a car in 2017).

On average, the Yeti loses 10% of its value every year. So, for example, a two-year-old car will cost 980 thousand rubles, and a car aged 3 years will cost 856 thousand.

What attracts "Yeti"

Car enthusiasts, in their reviews of the Skoda Yeti, note the good handling of the car. The assembly is of high quality. The salon is finished with quality materials. Noise isolation is excellent.

Out-of-order malfunctions are rare. And if you have to fix something, then buying spare parts is not a problem. The stores have both original and non-original parts. Four-wheel drive, although not a panacea for any mud, but helps to overcome snowy and muddy roads.

What are the disadvantages and problems of Skoda Yeti owners?

All of the above advantages are indirectly confirmed by a small set of weaknesses. And where to get away from them? The ideal car has not yet been invented. Cons "Skoda Yeti":

  • Poor quality paintwork. Already during the warranty period, the doors can peel off.
  • Skoda Yeti's trunk is small, only 405 liters. Only a couple of suitcases will fit here.
  • The Heldex drive connection system periodically requires maintenance if the vehicle is often off-road.
  • Due to the wide threshold, it is inconvenient to get into the car in slushy weather.
  • The fabric upholstery of the passenger compartment gets dirty quickly and is difficult to clean.

Most of the problems are with oil consumption. So, the 1.8 engine on models up to 2011 consumes a lot of oil - about 1 liter per 10,000 km. This should be closely monitored. After all, oil starvation can disable any internal combustion engine.

Residents of the north must also take into account the poor heating of the cabin. According to some reviews, at a temperature of -20 degrees, it takes about 30 minutes on the move or about 5 km to warm the cabin.

What "Yeti" is hiding in the secondary market

Over the past 30 days, 2,471 Skoda Yeti vehicles have been checked through the Autocode online service. Among the selectively reviewed reports, the most common are cars with accidents - 7 out of 20. Unpaid fines are found much less often. Of the 20 randomly selected reports, none of the pledges and restrictions of the traffic police were encountered. Let's look at one of the reports from our database:

We see two recorded accidents and 10 calculations of insurance companies. Some remediation calculations indicate that the accidents were serious. Here are just a few of them:

So handsome or monster?

And now let's answer the main question of the article. Outwardly, a non-standard model certainly attracts buyers. That is, here "Yeti" is definitely a handsome man. Advantages are added by good handling, high-quality assembly and unpretentious repair. Moreover, it is one of the safest vehicles. In independent crash tests Euro NCAP, he received the maximum rating - five stars out of five.

But when buying such a car, be careful. Not every car sold can be as great as its owners describe it. Therefore, in order not to buy a "monster" - "Skoda Yeti" with a bunch of problems, check the history of the car before buying.

Skoda Yeti I View View

What crossover review would you like to read? Leave your opinion in the comments to the text.

For any automaker, the restyling procedure is not so much upgrading a car to warm up consumer interest in it, as working on mistakes. Especially over those that brand fans constantly complain about. As a rule, we are talking about various design, technological, economic, marketing and design mistakes. Apparently, the Czech company Skoda decided that their Yeti crossover was already perfect, so the head optics was the only mistake actually corrected during the restyling, minor innovations do not count. Well, they have a right. Read all the details about the "updated" Yeti in our review!

Design

It's no secret that the main limiting factor for the sales of the first Yeti was a non-trivial appearance. Skoda fans who are not ready for experiments, who are accustomed to the conservative Czech style, did not like the Bigfoot at all: it looked too cartoonish and frivolous against the background of other models of the brand. On the other hand, the public liked it more open to new ideas, but such an audience was not enough for successful sales.

In connection with the failures of the first generation car, the Czechs thought about it and decided to redraw the main controversial element of the Yeti - the head lighting equipment. And at the same time, they took up the revision of the bumpers, the radiator grille and, for the sake of symmetry, the taillights. As a result, "Bigfoot" frowned and became more strict, solid and ... a little boring. The only thing that has completely retained its originality in its appearance is the visual division of the body into the driver's and passenger-and-freight parts. Evil tongues argue that Yeti is for retirees and people burdened with all the hardships of family life, but it is difficult to agree with this, given the decent dynamics and many "smart" solutions that progressive motorists value so much. Yeti - for those who know a lot about solid and practical cars.

Design

The crossover is built on the basis of the larger old Skoda Octavia: from it he borrowed a "bogie" with a McPherson front suspension and a rear multi-link, as well as supercharged engines and an all-wheel drive system with a Haldex clutch. True, unlike the pre-reform version, equipped with a 4th generation electro-hydraulic clutch, the restyled version received a 5th generation mechanism, which is lighter and faster. The new clutch works with a constant preload and transfers 4 percent of the traction to the rear axle even under standard conditions, but it is not completely blocked and in the absence of grip on the front wheels it can send back no more than 90 percent of the moment.

Adaptation to Russian conditions

With the Yeti, like other Skoda cars, primarily positioned as a family car, it should come as no surprise that its off-road capabilities are limited, even with the all-wheel-drive version. Still, its 180-mm ground clearance and good geometry of short bumpers are not enough to conquer the Russian off-road. But for the city and the suburban primer - a completely different matter. For the harsh Russian winter, Bigfoot has heated front seats, side mirrors and windshield washer nozzles. An electric heated windshield and a parking heater are available for a surcharge, as well as two-zone climate control Climatronic (in the "base" - an ordinary air conditioner).

Comfort

Inside, the changes are minimal: like the restyled Skoda Superb, there are new steering wheel and DSG gearshift lever here, and that's it. In general, this is good, because the Yeti salon can be considered an example of ergonomics and comfort anyway. The seats on the 1st row have a neutral shape and profile, which makes them comfortable for riders of any size. For comfort, high growth will not become an obstacle, since the seats have a wide range of adjustments, and the steering column is adjustable both in height and in reach. The 2nd row is not very spacious, but this is more than compensated for by the incredible functionality of the rear seats. The sofa is divided into 3 parts, each of which moves, tilts, folds or is completely dismantled. It is noteworthy that such a solution is usually used in minivans, but not in compact crossovers.

Skoda has definitely learned attention to detail from the parent carmaker Volkswagen: drawers, hooks, shelves, slats, cup holders, pockets, straps and fasteners eloquently testify to this. Even the buckles of the seat belts have special clips. The Yeti's luggage compartment is not the most spacious in the class, but it is well-organized. When the rear sofa is folded, its volume increases from 405 liters. up to an impressive 1580 hp A full-size spare wheel is traditionally kept in the boot underground. In addition, after the restyling, a flashlight appeared in the cargo compartment - another “smart” solution from Skoda.

In crash tests of the European independent organization Euro NCAP Yeti earned 5 stars out of 5, demonstrating excellent results: driver or adult protection - 92%, child-passenger protection - 78%, pedestrian protection - 46%, safety devices - 71%. The standard equipment, which is far from poor, helped to get good marks, which includes front airbags, an Era-Glonass panic button, anti-lock braking system (ABS) and a stability control system (ESP). More expensive trim levels - side airbags, "curtains", cruise control and an assistant when starting up the hill. For a surcharge, you can purchase a rear-view camera, parking sensors, driver fatigue sensor, knee airbag, as well as an anti-theft alarm with volume and roll sensors and an autonomous siren.

The car's entertainment systems have not undergone any changes. The base Yeti has a simple radio preparation with an antenna and 4 speakers, and the top one has a two-din radio with 8 speakers, an SD card slot, Bluetooth wireless protocol and AUX / USB connectors for connecting mobile devices. For a full-fledged multimedia complex Amundsen with navigation, you will have to pay extra. Both the head unit and Amundsen have quite acceptable sound. Optional "multimedia" pleases with quick response and image quality. In addition to this, the Swing and Bolero audio systems are also available.

Skoda Yeti Specifications

Yeti has three engines today, and all gasoline. The base 1.6-liter MPI engine with multipoint injection develops 110 hp. and 155 Nm, combined with a five-speed "mechanics" or a six-speed automatic transmission. An intermediate option is a 125-horsepower 1.4-liter TSI engine. (200 Nm), which is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, or with a 7-speed "robot" DSG, and the top version is a 1.8-liter TSI engine with 152 hp. (250 Nm). The latter is in tandem with a six-speed DSG transmission and, unlike the others, is combined with all-wheel drive. According to the manufacturer, the average fuel consumption is between 5.8 and 8 liters. per 100 km, depending on the modification. It should be borne in mind that the real "appetite" may be greater.

The Skoda Yeti 2017 (Skoda Yeti) came to the test with a 1.6-liter 110-horsepower engine, 6-speed automatic, front-wheel drive. The Yeti makes a solid impression with its rugged looks and details such as trunk organization. The test took place as part of the video project "Promise your beloved". Will the presenter Anastasia Belyaeva agree to take the promised Yeti?

For those who watched the video, let me remind you of the terms of our “Promise your beloved” project: the presenter gets acquainted with the car and at the end honestly expresses her opinion about it. It may not coincide with the opinion of experts and viewers, but, you see, it will broaden your understanding of the car. Below are the additions from the male half of the project participants ( Peter the Lesser and Igor Sirin) and, of course, let's give the floor Anastasia Belyaeva.

Let's figure it out in different combinations

I have ( Peter the Lesser) there were very high expectations: I learned about the first Yeti, still in the bud, in secret from the head of the entire Skoda. , Czech Republic's Car of the Year and Top Gear's "Best Car in the World". Today you can wonder how much truth is in this, and ordering the all-wheel drive version of Monte-Carlo, which is actual after restyling, is a top, or almost top from the Yeti, stylized as a sport. You can order it with any of the four combinations of motors and gearboxes offered for Yeti (in Russia).

In the photo above, under the hood is a 152-horsepower 1.8-liter TSI and a six-speed "wet" DSG robot. Anyone who understands only rally genes by the “Monte Carlo” badge is immediately disappointed. For some time now, almost any Skoda has such a version. It includes, in addition to graceful 17-inch rims for wide tires, a lacquered black enamel roof and the same side skirts. In addition, the sports seats are upholstered in a special way. In a word, such the best car with gasoline consumption under 8-10 liters will "roll out" under 1.5 million rubles. A little expensive to promise his beloved. (However, this is as anyone).

In front, everything is well done, but there is not enough space: the driver and passenger sit too closely together.

We even forbade her ("her beloved") to think about a large diesel engine (2.0 TDI with 150 hp and a manual gearbox) - it is not supplied to Russia. It's a pity, of course: in my opinion, a powerful diesel engine and four-wheel drive are more for Yeti, which is offered in our area, nothing is needed.

The feel of a rugged car is enhanced by the Haldex all-wheel drive - although it actually only works in very bad weather. But being able to, if you want, is always a good thing. In the photo, the front-wheel drive Yeti is trying to prove that he is also an SUV.

In our experiment, we promised our "beloved" front-wheel drive Yeti with a motor 1.6 MPI (110 hp), automatic transmission (6 steps), saving up to 400 thousand rubles from the top version.

The modestly equipped Skoda Yeti is a practical and even slightly stylish option at any time of the year. But will your beloved want to choose it?

He met a girl

I give the floor Igor Sirin- it was he who lived with the Yeti for several days, having met a girl on the road who became interested in the Yeti.

Anastasia Belyaeva and Igor Sirin try on a Czech SUV. I (Peter the Lesser) asked them to speak and write "from the heart."

Igor Sirin:

Despite its advanced age, Yeti still does not shine in peace. The new crossover turned out to be larger and more expensive, so it is unlikely to be able to replace the Bigfoot. However, the Czechs, along with the Germans, it seems, is still time to think about a successor to the Yeti.

Indeed, together with the Audi Q3, they remain the last models created on the 5th generation Volkswagen Golf platform. At one time, this chassis made a splash. Excellent ergonomics of passenger cars, excellent independent rear suspension brought to a new level not only controllability, but also the ability to create the most diverse models from compact cars to roomy minivans and crossovers. However, time flies by ...

Unnecessary options that make the Yeti as expensive as cars a whole size class above it are optional.

Now at the wheel of a restyled Yeti with a 110-horsepower new 1.6-liter engine, I am not particularly enthusiastic. Yes, it still has a great urban chassis and a very fuel efficient engine paired with a nimble 6-speed automatic. The engine warms up quickly in cold weather and is very quiet at idle. This is probably why the Shkodovites decided to save money on noise insulation. While you are driving calmly, and the revs do not rise above 2-3 thousand, everything is calm in the cabin, but you drown the gas and at least take out your earplugs, the engine accelerates well, but lays in your ears.

Yeti doesn't like to leave the pavement. Our car is richly equipped with 17-inch wheels, and the thrill of driving was shaken out already on the first bumps.

It's easy to believe in the declared clearance of 180 mm. In addition, the suspension is quite dense, and the overhangs are small, so you can not be afraid to catch on bumps. But I absolutely don't want to drive such a crossover along a country road.

To somehow improve the mood, we released the Yeti to the ice rink and hoped to enjoy the driver's chassis. But it was not there. The stabilization system has a shutdown button and even allows you to sand the ice a little on a straight line, but as soon as a turn happens, the electronics immediately limits the motor power. The independent rear suspension tries to help the driver and feeds the car into a corner, but ESP is adamantly opposed to such a ride. And the main victim of their conflict is traditionally the driver. He famously entered the turn knowing the capabilities of the chassis, built a trajectory in advance and drowned the gas to the floor, and at the exit he received not a Bigfoot, but some kind of boiled vegetable.

But there are quickly warming seats, a voluminous and transformable trunk (the rear seats can be moved), good visibility, supported by the (unfortunately quickly dirty) optional rear-view camera, and a small turning radius.

If desired, all three rear separate seats can be removed from the passenger compartment in seconds and its volume grows to an impressive 1,760 liters.

It turns out that we recommend the Yeti to those who want to sit higher, but do not plan to leave the asphalt. Yes and no. It is not bad for those who like to transport crops and other materials. Despite its modest exterior dimensions, it boasts an incredible trunk volume with the rear seats removed. For comparison, the larger first-generation VW Tiguan has a trunk of only 1510 liters.

However, with daily use, the Yeti disappoints with imperfect ergonomics. You can sit down in Moscow in the morning, and go out to Sochi in the evening and go for a walk to the sea without a shadow of fatigue. In the crossover, even despite the huge reserves of adjustments in all directions, it is not possible to sit down just as comfortably. The shape of the chair is not too ideal, the seat and steering wheel want to be lowered even lower, but at the same time the rim obstructs the instruments.

Well, anticipating the main question: is the aging crossover Skoda Yeti better than the new Hyundai Kreta, without a face-to-face comparison I will say unequivocally "yes". Despite all my nagging, Yeti is better!

The Yeti makes a solid impression with its rugged looks and details such as trunk organization. True, the back door can only be opened with difficulty.

Beauty and the Beast (Yeti - Bigfoot).

Anastasia Belyaeva

I did not find the reasons why I would want to become the owner of the Skoda Yeti. When choosing a car, future owners are guided by completely different assessment criteria. In order to focus my attention on a particular model, I need a significant advantage in one of the parameters:
1. High level of comfort, cross-country ability and technical equipment of the car.
2. Stunning exterior and interior design.
3. Well, very low cost, in comparison with classmates.
When one of these qualities is clearly emphasized, shortcomings in other parameters can be forgiven to a certain point. Or there must be a reasonable combination of all three.
The creators of the Skoda Yeti, apparently, strove for the third option: little by little. But alas! In my opinion, they did not succeed much in almost all parameters. I'm talking about the tested version of the Yeti: with a 1.6-liter petrol engine, 110 hp, front-wheel drive, 6-speed automatic.

Appearance: I began to look at the post-styled Yeti at least without a smile of bewilderment. The first Yeti looked like a child lost in the crowd and ready to cry.

The second generation acquired general Skoda features, squared headlights, and a more toothy grille. It got much better. But he gets 5 out of 10 from me - maxismum! Apparently, tastes really do not argue!
The technical side: the combination caused bewilderment: front-wheel drive, non-disconnectable stabilization system, ground clearance of 18 cm, the picture is complemented by a terribly uncomfortable landing and a hard rattlesnake suspension. That is, excuse me, what is this car for then? The ground clearance seems to tell us: off-road. Ok, but the non-disconnectable stabilization system dooms the owner not to take risks and not to move off stable surfaces. And the suspension prefers to stay on level roads. Conclusion: asphalt and only asphalt!

Only the asphalt doesn't suit me.

The only plus, apparently, is the price. But the article is about the individual feel of the car, not about price comparisons.
This car is suitable for a small family, which on weekends gets out to the country, where there is a normal road. Folding and easy-to-remove rear row seats increase the roominess. It is perfectly. For example, you can leave one or two rear seats in the car for passengers, and make the rest of the seat with baskets of mushrooms and other useful things!

Sorry for the whim, I'll play some other toys for now. Let them promise me another car.
