The Kaliningrad plant AVTOTOR has begun production of the fourth generation of the popular KIA Sportage crossover. The car has received significant changes in the interior and exterior, is produced with all-wheel or front-wheel drive and is equipped with engines of the Euro-6 standard. For the first time, the GT-Line specification has been developed for the KIA Sportage crossover. Sales of the new version of one of the most popular cars in Russia will begin on April 1, 2016.

The design of the model was developed by the European design studio KIA, in Frankfurt am Main (Germany) with the participation of design centers in Korean Namyang and North American Irvine. Visually, the front end of the KIA Sportage has undergone the greatest external changes. KIA's signature tiger nose grille and headlights are spaced apart. The headlights are positioned higher and are much more extended along the outer edges of the bonnet. The radiator grille is positioned lower than before and is noticeably wider. This solution provides better ventilation of the engine compartment and gives a visual massiveness to the bottom of the front of the car.

As a result, the appearance of the new Sportage emphasizes its stability, although the overall width of the crossover has not changed compared to its predecessor at 1,885 mm. The new KIA Sportage retains its recognizable profile, but has a larger wheelbase (now 2,670 mm) and an overall length increased by 40 mm (4,480 mm). The overall height has increased by 10 mm and is 1,645 mm.

The new GT-Line models feature LED ice cube fog lights. Also, they are equipped with the lower protection of the front part of the engine compartment, decorated "aluminum".

The rear of the new Sportage has more pronounced horizontal surfaces and sharply defined contour lines. Narrow combination lanterns are horizontally elongated and connected by a strip. Direction indicators and reversing lights are made in separate blocks. For the GT-Line specification, it is possible to fit twin muffler pipes and a metal-like lower diffuser under the rear bumper.

The power structure of the body of the new Sportage has become stronger, primarily due to the use of ultra-high-strength steels. In the body structure of the third generation Sportage, their share was 18%, in the new model it was increased to 51%. This improved overall rigidity and more efficient distribution of impact loads throughout the body structure. The body rigidity of the fourth generation KIA Sportage has increased by 39% compared to the predecessor model.

The increase in strength is also provided by an increase in the number of parts manufactured by hot stamping. Stronger types of steel are used, in particular, to strengthen the roof pillars, sills, roof structural elements and wheel arches.

For the first time in history, a Sportage can be equipped with the new 1.6 T-GDI direct injection turbocharged petrol engine, which is exclusively available on the GT-Line. Versions with a 2-liter turbo diesel and a naturally aspirated 2.0 MPI petrol engine will also be available.

The fourth generation Sportage 1.6 T-GDI can be equipped with the new 7-speed DCT dual-clutch transmission. KIA's new transmission is capable of delivering more torque from turbocharged engines. Cars with a 2.0 MPI engine are equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Diesel modifications are equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The fourth generation Sportage has been awarded the highest level of safety "5 stars" in EuroNCAP crash tests and won the iF Design Award - 2016.

The AVTOTOR plant previously produced all three previous generations of the KIA Sportage car. The production of the first generation began in 1998. KIA Sportage in 2002 became the first car, welding and painting of which was carried out directly at the AUTOTOR. In total, the AVTOTOR plant in the period from 1998 to 2016 produced 189,239 cars of three generations
KIA Sportage.

Reference.AUTOTOR was founded in 1994 in Kaliningrad. He was the first in Russia to start producing cars of foreign brands. Production has been underway since 1997 and has exceeded 1.5 million cars. Today AUTOTOR produces cars under the brands BMW, KIA, Hyundai. In 2013, he started implementing a project to create a cluster of full-service automotive industries in the Kaliningrad region. The project envisages the creation of full-cycle capacities for the production of at least 250 thousand vehicles per year.

The assembly of Kia Sportage in Russia is carried out at a plant in Kaliningrad at the facilities of the Avtotor enterprise. So ...

The next generational change of the popular Kia Sportage crossover is coming.

Therefore, we will focus on only two enterprises.

Kia Sportage of the Year is produced on the platform of the Hyundai iX car. Buyers can purchase the car in several versions.

The assembly plant for this car occupies 15 m2. The production process begins with welding the body on a special welding line. Two more lines are planned to be launched here next year.

Transport in the back of a crossover has a certain respect in our mentality, and the sporty youth features of the Sportage cannot leave a potential buyer of a crossover indifferent.

So the corporation guessed right with the place of assembly, because the localization of car production significantly reduced the price for the buyer and made the car more affordable. If KIA Sportage cars were supplied to our country simply from Korea, the cost of transport would be sky-high, the model would not be able to compete with its main rivals and win in various popular nominations, increasing the number of sales.

The main place of production of Kia Sportage for Russia It can be stated that the domestic auto industry is fully involved in the production of the KIA Sportage car.

Kia Sportage plant in Russia. Reviews of the Kia Sportage Russian assembly

In particular, the Avtotor automobile plant in Kaliningrad produces SKD vehicles using ready-made components and assemblies assembled in Slovakia.

In turn, a huge enterprise was built in this Eastern European country, one of the largest in Slovakia, where cars are made practically from scratch. The proximity of Slovakia to Russia and the presence of economic ties make the cooperation of the factories quite democratic. The main production processes carried out on the car are as follows: We must pay tribute to the Korean corporation, which provided the necessary working conditions for the enterprise for the high-quality assembly of the car.

In Russia, Kia is assembled in Kaliningrad at the production facilities of the Avtotor company. Where is the best Kia Sportage collection? This is more of a rhetorical question. Sportage is completely assembled in Slovakia, then disassembled into car sets and sent to Russia. KIA decided to create a production base in Europe back in the city of

Inspection of the bottom of the Kia Sportage III - 2011 release

The investments for the construction of the plant amounted to about a million US dollars. More people work on the assembly of cars at the constructed facility.

The plant can produce about a thousand cars per year. Ardent fans of domestically assembled cars need to know that in any case, all bodies are produced in Slovakia, even for the Kaliningrad plant. It is interesting that the assembly process at the Slovak plant includes whole actions, and at the Russian one - everything.Therefore, it is surprising why cars from Zilina are of better quality than Kaliningrad ones.

Conclusion Kia Sportage is one of the most popular crossovers in Russia. They are assembled at factories in Korea, Slovakia and Russia.

where is the KIA Sportage 4 (2016) going?

Only the products of the last two factories are supplied to the domestic market. Not only is our auto industry unable to provide a decent quality of its cars, but it also manages to spoil others.

The main disadvantages of the Russian-assembled Kia Sportage: This malfunction will be eliminated free of charge.

Kia sportage is very popular in the Russian Federation, and, in principle, throughout Europe, it is here that one of the main factories is located. Today we will tell you about two factories from where Kia cars can be supplied to Russia.

The plant in Slovakia is a state-of-the-art plant, located on 223 hectares of land. It is the largest enterprise in ilina and one of the largest in the entire Slovaks. In 2000, Kia decided to build a plant in Europe. As a result, Slovakia won the tender and received about $ 1 billion in investments.

Today, about three thousand people work there, with the plant's design capacity of about 300 thousand vehicles per year. The plant was built in the shortest possible time, the help of the government of Slovakia, for which this enterprise was simply necessary, affected here.

In Russia, Kia is assembled in Kaliningrad at the production facilities of the Avtotor company. By the way, it also produces BMW and GM cars.

Where is Kia Sportage best collected?

This is more of a rhetorical question. Sportage is completely assembled in Slovakia, then disassembled into car sets and sent to Russia. The number of operations performed in the Autootor is minimal. For comparison, in Slovakia, for the Assembly of Kia Sportage, about 2000 operations are done, and in Russia, only twenty.

Reviews of the Russian assembly

It is sad to realize this, but there are complaints about the assembly in Russia, first of all, these are the doors. They close very hard, it feels like they are sagging. There are no such defects in the Korean assembly or cars brought from the UAE. The answer of dealers on this situation is especially unpleasant: "Design feature" or "Good sealing of the cabin". There is no effect when trying to adjust by dealers. If you search, you can find instructions on this procedure on the profile forum.

The second problem of the RF assembly is that the air conditioner is not fully charged, as well as the bend of one of the pipes through which the refrigerant circulates. The defect is manifested by extraneous noise when the air conditioner is operating. It's good that there is a guarantee and within six months this defect will be fixed free of charge.

How to define an assembly

It is very easy to determine the country where the car was assembled. It is done by the VIN code, if the letters begin:

  • XWE - Russian assembly
  • KNE - Assembly in Korea
  • U6Y - Assembly in Slovakia

On the Kia Sportage, the VIN code can be viewed from the driver's side on the windshield, where the wiper blades are located.

The Russian assembly pumped up a little, it is especially unpleasant that, due to duties, well-assembled cars are disassembled, but they can no longer assemble properly. All this is perfectly illustrated by the example of the brother Kia Sportage. The Hyundai ix35 does not have the described problems. All doors close perfectly and there are no finger-thick gaps in the body parts.

The build quality of the same car, carried out in completely different factories and in different countries, can often differ from each other. The same take into account befell one of the best-selling crossovers in the domestic market - Kia Sportage. Although the manufacturer has repeatedly stated that the quality of their products remains unchanged regardless of the country of production, many owners of a particular assembly notice significant differences that call into question the words of Kia's management.

If you decide to buy a similar car for yourself, it will not hurt you to know about where the car in front of you was assembled, because this question can be decisive in the final choice.

Where is Kia Sportage made?

Machines are officially supplied to the domestic market, the assembly of which takes place on the basis of the production facilities of two factories. One of them is located in the city of Zilina (Slovakia), and the second - in Kaliningrad, on the basis of the ready-made Avtodor enterprise. By the way, this company is also engaged in the assembly of other cars, which include some models of the concerns BMW and GM. Of course, Kia Sportage is also produced in its homeland in the city of Gwangju (Republic of Korea), but cars from this plant are not officially supplied to European countries.

What's the best build?

For a complete understanding of the current situation, you only need to know one thing - to assemble a finished machine at factories in Korea and Slovakia, more than 2 thousand different operations are performed, while at "domestic" production there are no more than 2 dozen such operations. It is the significant differences in the production cycle that make the Russian assembly of the Kia Sportage the lowest quality.

The opening of the production of Kia cars in Russia was not initially aimed at creating a new car from scratch. It pursues only one goal - bypassing the incredibly high duties on the import of entire cars into our country, which will inevitably lead to an increase in the cost of cars for the domestic consumer and, as a result, low demand for them. The scheme is simple: after a full cycle of car production at a plant in Slovakia, Kia Sportage is disassembled "to the cog" on the so-called. car kit, after which it is safely sent to Russia, where it is reassembled together. What could go wrong?

But the management of Kia did not take into account one small "but" - in our country everything is done under the slogan "and so it will do", therefore, even a fully finished car, the employees of the Kaliningrad plant are not able to assemble correctly. In this regard, many owners of domestically assembled cars express their dissatisfaction at various thematic forums, referring the following points to the most significant problems:

  • Heavy and insufficiently tight closing of all doors;
  • Unfilled air conditioning system;
  • Kinked and / or leaking refrigerant lines.

How to determine the country of manufacture of the Kia Sportage?

Let's say right away - it is impossible to determine the country of production of the car in front of you by only external signs, since the Kia Sportage of Korean, Slovak or Russian assemblies look exactly the same, and also have the same configuration. For the correct identification of a specific car, you should pay attention to the VIN-code, or rather, to its first three characters, in which:

  • "XWE" means the machine was produced specifically for Russia;
  • “KNE” means that you are “pure Korean”;
  • "U6Y" serves as proof that the vehicle came from Slovakia.

VIN-code is located on a special panel under the windshield on the driver's side *

It turns out that, contrary to the assurances of the manufacturer of this car, it is better to consider cars assembled either in their "homeland" in Korea or at a factory in Slovakia, since they are considered the most problem-free and reliable.

Which Kia Sportage assembly is better: whose country was last modified: December 6th, 2019 by Administrator

When buying a car, one of the key criteria is where it is assembled. Many parameters depend on this - the level of adaptation to local roads, the quality and even the technical characteristics of the vehicle.

As demand rises, major manufacturers open factories in many countries around the world.

The South Korean company KIA, which has a wide geography of factories, is no exception.

Where are cars of this brand produced? Where do the cars come from to the Russian market?

General information about KIA

Concern Kia Motors Corporation is a South Korean brand, which ranks second in size in South Korea and is one of the ten largest companies in the world.

The year of foundation is considered to be 1944, when the new enterprise became part of the Kia Group. Full allocation to an individual unit took place in 2003.

At first, the company was named KyungSung Precision Industry, and only since 1951 it was renamed KIA Industries.

The initial direction of work of the newly created structure is the manufacture of two-wheeled vehicles (motorcycles and bicycles).

Only in the 70s of the last century the production of cars and trucks started. In less than 20 years of activity, the millionth car rolled off the assembly line.

In 1998, the company was hit by a financial crisis associated with a decline in consumer capacity and a drop in sales.

In the same period, the Kia company lost its independence and was acquired by another Hyundai manufacturer. A year after the merger, the Hyundai Kia Automotive Group was formed.

The turning point was 2006, when Peter Schreyer, a German designer who was involved in the development of many models of such manufacturers as Volkswagen and Audi, got a job at Kia Motors.

In just four years (from 2008 to 2011), sales of Kia vehicles jumped 81 percent, and total sales amounted to 2.5 million vehicles per year.

Today, KIA continues to gain momentum, offering more and more new models to the world.

With the growing popularity of KIA machines, representatives of the company were forced to expand production. So, since 2005 in Russia at the IzhAvto plant, models of the Spectra have been produced, since 2006 - Rio, and after a while - Sorento.

By 2010, the production process of cars at this plant was discontinued, but a few months later the plant resumed work for a couple of months to produce a small batch of Sorento and Spectra in order to cover the current obligations of IzhAuto to the South Korean brand.

Another assembly site is Avtotor (Kaliningrad), where the following KIA models are admitted - Sid, Sportage, Soul, Sorento, Cerato, Wenga and others.

Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad.

The mentioned companies were engaged only in production, and the distribution tasks were performed by KIA Motors.

Thanks to the well-established production, for several years, starting from 2010, the KIA brand is the leader in sales in the Russian Federation among foreign cars.

Since 2011, the production of Kia Rio cars, optimized for local operating conditions, has started in St. Petersburg.

The car was based on the platforms of two famous cars from the Hyundai company (i20 and Solaris).

Already the first years have shown the success of KIA Rio in the Russian market. In 2014, sales of this model exceeded 10 thousand units every year.

In which countries and where is the Kia Sportage 2016 assembled, factories in Russia

In which countries and where is Optima assembled, factories in Russia

Another noteworthy model is the KIA Magentis, known in Russia as the Optima.

The production of this KIA model started in 2000. The first generation cars were sold under the name Optima, but in 2002 the Canadian and European market received a car with a new name - KIA Magentis.

On the South Korean market, the second generation cars had other "names" - K5 and Lotze.

The third generation of cars has been produced since 2010, and it was from this period that KIA Optima received worldwide recognition.

Since 2010, Kia Spectra has been assembled in Izhevsk, the quality of which was very decent. So, after a while, the release of another model was launched -.

There is an opinion that these machines are produced only in South Korea. But this is a misconception. This state of affairs took place until 2014. Now the car is assembled not only in the Russian Federation, but also in the USA.

There are no European factories that would produce KIA Optima, because South Korean capacities are quite enough to cover current demands.

In Russia, KIA Optima is produced at Avtotor (Kaliningrad). The plant has a well-established production and a wide staff of experienced employees.

As with other models, the emphasis is on SKD. At the same time, complete units come from the territory of South Korea.

Build quality is key for many car owners. The following points should be highlighted here:

  • In Russia, a car is assembled from large units that are debugged and tested;
  • The quality of the finished transport is closely monitored, which negates the appearance of defects on the market;
  • In the USA (Georgia) KIA Optima is produced for domestic consumption. In this case, the assembly scheme is the same as in the Russian Federation. If we compare the final result, there is almost no difference. The only thing that is different is the package bundle.

In which countries and where is Cerato collected, factories in Russia

The KIA Cerato model is a worthy representative of the South Korean brand. The car belongs to the category of the middle class, was first presented in 2004.

Cerate of the 2nd generation appeared four years later, in 2008. The third generation is in 2009. Since the appearance of the new model, the geography of production has gradually expanded.

The car was produced in India, Iran, Ecuador, USA, Russia, Ukraine and several other countries.

As for the KIA Cerato, the first and second generation of cars were produced in South Korea, and since 2006 in the United States. Since 2009, when the 3rd generation Cerate appeared.

At the same time, the manufacture was entrusted to a number of other countries (including Russia).

The plant "Asia Auto" in Ust-Kamenogorsk (Kazakhstan), where SCD-assembly was carried out, joined the work.

The bottom line was that the plant received ready-made components, which were assembled within a few hours by the workers of the plant.

In Russia, the production of KIA Cerato is carried out by the Avtotor plant located in Kaliningrad. Previously, only large-scale assembly took place, but since 2014 a full cycle has been established.

In which countries and where is Soul collected, factories in Russia

The KIA Soul is a compact mini SUV, the first sales of which on the South Korean market began in 2008. It was then that the car was presented at the Paris Motor Show.

Interestingly, the car does not fit a particular class, but most often Soul refers specifically to a mini-SUV.

The main feature of the model is a high level of comfort for passengers and a huge trunk, which becomes even larger when the seats are folded.

In Europe, KIA Suoul appeared only in February 2009, and in the USA - in April.

For the Russian consumer, KIA Soul is assembled at three factories:

  • In Kaliningrad - Avtotor;
  • In Kazakhstan - "Asia Auto";
  • In South Korea.

There is information that the KIA Soul is being assembled in China, with which a close partnership has long been established in Russia. Cars from the Middle Kingdom are exported to many parts of the world, including Russia.

Are there any differences in assemblies? In Kaliningrad, there is a "screwdriver" production, when the workers of the plant assemble ready-made assemblies. Consequently, the quality of finished machines does not greatly depend on the place of production.

In addition, ready-made assemblies also come to China and Kazakhstan, so finding differences in assembly is a difficult task. All that may differ is the package bundle.

Outcomes

As you can see from the article, KIA cars have a very wide geography of production.

On the Russian market, cars mainly come from St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Kazakhstan, South Korea and China. Much depends on the model and current demand.
