Lashing straps: how it should be! Tensioning belt: overview, types, features, characteristics and reviews Tensioning belts for securing cargo how to use

3 basic rules for working with lashing belts:

  1. The load to be secured must be firmly positioned on the platform. If necessary, use additional means to stabilize the load (mats, spacer bars or locking bars).
  2. Do not load belts above the Load Limit (LC) indicated on the tag (s).
  3. Do not use the lashing strap as a lifting or towing device.

When choosing lashing belts, you should pay attention to:

  • type, dimensions, weight and shape of the load, the coefficient of friction between the load and the load surface (see Appendix), the method of securing the load, the angles of fastening the belts;
  • type and design of fastening means;
  • the presence of an information tag (label) containing data about the manufacturer, the length of this part (if the belt consists of 2 parts, each of them must have its own information tag); information on allowable working load (LC), pre-tension force (STF), and maximum force on the ratchet handle (SHF)

The minimum number of tie-down belts for the "slip-on" fastening method is 2 pieces.

The minimum number of tie-down belts for the "anchor" fastening method is 4 pieces.

Before each use, the lashing belts should be inspected for damage. Damaged belts must not be used! Typical injuries are:

  • notches on the belt strap
  • damage to the connecting seams (stitching)
  • deformation and corrosion of metal components (hooks, ratchet)

Temperature range for using the belt: from -35 0 С to +100 0 С.

When transporting goods with sharp edges or rough surfaces, additional means of protection should be used (pads, protective corners, etc.).

Only attach the lashing strap hooks to the specially designated attachment points in the vehicle body. The throat of the hook must be in full contact with the attachment point so that the main pulling load falls on the throat of the hook.

Method of tensioning and releasing the tape in belts with a ratchet mechanism (ratchet):

When using lashing belts, it is strictly prohibited:

  • curvature or kinking of the tape;
  • attach hooks to the tape or other hooks or sides of the vehicle that are not equipped with special eyes;
  • use highly active chemical components to clean the belt;
  • use the belt when there is visible deformation of the steel elements of the lock and hooks, their corrosion or deformation;
  • use a belt whose belt or fibers are damaged, more than 10% of the total width of the belt;
  • use belts with damaged seams or the belt itself as a result of temperature exposure or exposure to chemical elements;
  • use belts with knots or tangled ribbons;
  • use belts with a missing or unreadable information tag.

Only fully functional lashing belts may be used!

Remember! Improper load securing can lead to death of people, animals or damage to other people's property.

MAXIMUM OPERATING LOAD (LC)

  • LC (Loading Capacity) - the maximum allowable working load on the belt is the maximum allowable force that can be repeatedly applied to the belt without subsequent deformation. When fastening the load in a slip way, this value is doubled. Maximum Allowable Working Load (LC) - not to be confused with the pretensioning force (STF) emanating from the tensioner, which is used when calculating the load securing in a slip way.

PRE-TENSION FORCE (STF)

  • The pre-tensioning force refers to the tension force transmitted from the tensioning element (ratchet mechanism) to the tensioning belt. The EN-12195-2 standard describes the pre-tensioning force as the force remaining in the tensioner after the ratchet handle is released. The linkage of the tensioning element generates the required tensile forces. Tension force (STF) is required to be indicated on the lashing strap label. It should be a minimum of 0.10 LC (10% of the working load) and a maximum of 0.5 LC (50%) of the lashing strap. Values exceeding 0.5 LC are not allowed. The tensile forces are given in daN.

STANDARD HAND FORCE (SHF)

  • SHF is the rated belt tension force. The EN-12195-2 standard prescribes 50 daN for manual maintenance of the tensioning elements to transfer the tension to the lashing belt. Physical force is used to achieve the required fixing and pre-tensioning forces. Based on the requirements of ergonomics (the science of the interaction of man and machine), the expended force is determined at 50 daN. The standard manual force is indicated on the lashing strap label.

TENSILE STRENGTH AND PERCENTAGE OF TENSION

  • The tensile strength of the lashing strap is at least twice the maximum allowable working load.
  • The elongation of the lashing strap when reaching the maximum lashing force (LC) according to Standard EN-12195-2 must not exceed 7%

Belt stretching is often underestimated in daily practice. With a tensioned belt length of 10 meters and taking into account a stretch factor of 7%, a difference in length of 70 cm is possible. This means that the strap of the lashing strap, when subjected to physical stress, can lengthen by more than half a meter, and this in turn reduces to almost zero the pretensioning force (STF). To prevent such a situation, the tie belts require additional tightening after the start of the movement.

To date, to perform reliable fastening of cargo, which is necessary for any transportation, many different accessories and equipment are used. However, due to their simple operation and high strength, lashing belts are the most popular today. It is this mechanism with a tensioning device that ensures maximum reliability of fixing any type of load. The "Trademark" company offers its customers a wide range of tie-down belts of any color and type, as well as an individual approach to fulfilling each order and favorable terms of cooperation.

Features of the use and application of lashing belts

The importance of such a means of securing loads can hardly be overestimated. These products are an integral part of the process of preparing goods for transportation. Their scope of application is wide enough and is not limited to just one car. Lashing straps for securing cargo can be used to secure goods to a trailer, trailer, ship, and other moving devices. Moreover, the design of these products is quite simple, so that everyone can easily use the "accessory" for its intended purpose.

All belts consist of two main parts: a ratchet mechanism (the tensioner itself) and a flat polyester tape. This design makes them versatile, so the straps can be used even for the most fragile or painted loads. At the same time, a soft textile tape will allow you to keep any transported goods intact and without damage to their appearance. Regardless of whether equipment, tools, furniture or other items are transported, the appearance and performance of the cargo will remain unchanged.

Lashing belts for cargo, which you can buy from our company at the most favorable cost, are, in addition to everything, elastic and as light as possible. Each model is equipped with a special tensioning element, which acts as a guarantor that the tape will not loosen or stretch. In addition, the strapping tape that we use in our production is resistant to wear and tear and weathering. So, polyester belts are capable of functioning at temperatures from -40 to +120 degrees.

The Trademark company is a high quality, reliability and durability of all manufactured products.

Advantages of lashing straps compared to other means of securing loads

This type of cargo securing is the most demanded and widespread today. This is due to a number of advantages that the vehicle owner receives by preferring lashing belts to other types of fastening:

  • convenience and ease of use. Thanks to this, securing the load will take a minimum of time and even an inexperienced person can cope with such a task. Lashing belts, which you can buy from our company as soon as possible, can be easily fixed directly to the guides on any type of trailer, cars and other types of transport;
  • strength and reliability. For the manufacture of such belts, we use materials of European quality. Lightweight, elastic and high-strength textile tape allows you to reliably fix the product of any configuration and weight, thereby preventing damage;
  • wide range of applications. This type of fastening is suitable for securing cargo during transportation on any vehicle, from a trailer to a ship. In addition, the belt strap can be useful to any motorist, if necessary, to move a stuck car. In this case, the traction force is produced by means of a reliable tensioning mechanism;
  • a wide range of colors. When ordering belts from our company, you get the opportunity to choose any color for painting the product.

Criterias of choice

Before purchasing the tensioning belts for the load, it is necessary to determine with such parameters as the configuration of the fastener, the length and the tension force of the belt. To do this, first of all, one should take into account the size and type of the most frequently transported cargo. The lashing strap has two main elements:

  1. Ratchet lock.

The ratchet lock is at the same time a fairly simple and reliable mechanism. It allows for rotational movements along the guide and at the same time the belt does not move in the opposite direction, thanks to the teeth of the pawl, which is attached to the wheel by means of a spring.

  1. End stop.

The end of the belt can be made in the form of a hook, ring or hook-shaped ends, which allows you to select a product based on the type of cargo transported.

The specialists of our company will advise on issues of interest and help you to correctly and correctly choose a tightening belt, the price of which is the most affordable and acceptable, in accordance with the parameters and type of transported goods.

Let's look at how we fasten our weights and how the clamping method differs from other fastening methods, as well as what characteristics of the lashing strap should be taken into account when calculating the fastening.

Inertial forces act on the cargo in the vehicle. If there is no fastening, then the load is held up to a certain moment only by the friction force. To increase the frictional force, the load must be pressed down, and the clamping is carried out using the lashing belts. This type of fastening is widespread, since it can be used to fasten many types of cargo. The belt presses the load to the surface, which increases the frictional force, and generally protects the load from displacement. The force with which the clamping belt acts is called the tensile force, it is achieved using the tensioning element. Due to the fact that the belt presses the load from both sides, the resulting tension force is the sum of the vectors of the two forces F1 and F2. On the opposite side of the ratchet, a lower pulling force F2 occurs.

This characteristic must be indicated in the labeling. The market is currently overflowing with cheap lashing belts from unknown manufacturers and carriers prefer to use them as there are no standards to restrict their use. It is hard to imagine, but the elements that keep multi-ton loads from falling out of the vehicle were left without the attention of state certification and control bodies. Detailed instructions can be found in the European standard EN 12195-2 “Load securing. Security. Chemical fiber lashing straps ”. The EN 12195-2 standard has been adopted in all member states of the European Committee for Standardization and entered into force in May 2001.

There are two systems:

One-piece lashing strap

The one-piece lashing strap consists of a tensioner (ratchet) to which the strap is attached. This type of belt is often used to tie (grip) the elements of the load into one whole.

Two-piece lashing strap

The two-piece lashing strap consists of two parts.

I - The removable end fixing element consists of a long belt strap and a connecting element - a hook.

II - The belt system with an end fastening element consists of a short, non-adjustable length belt, to which a ratchet and a hook are attached. The two-piece lashing straps are most commonly used for push-down fastening, but can also be used as braces.

The connecting elements (hooks) are used to fasten the fastening device to the fastening point (mounting plate, transport frame).

An anchorage strap is a synthetic fiber strap made by weaving or weaving. Due to its physical and chemical properties, polyester is preferred; polyamide and polypropylene are also used. The material used is recognized by the color on the fastener label.

Marking (lashing strap tag) according to EN

The standard obliges manufacturers of lashing devices to develop appropriate labeling for lashing straps. For two-piece lashing belts, two tags are recommended - on a long belt and on a short belt with a tightening mechanism. Inspection often reveals its absence, which creates a problem in assessing this belt. The manufacturer often sews black identification longitudinal seams into the belt to indicate the permitted working load.

Label data according to DIN EN 12195-2:

  • Manufacturer (name and symbol).
  • Year of issue.
  • The material for the production of the belt.
  • Lashing strap length in meters
  • Standard hand force (S HF).
  • Pre-tensioning force (S TF) at the tensioning arm in daN when clamping.
  • Manufacturer code.
  • Indication of compliance with EN 12195-2.
  • Elongation at maximum permissible working load (in%).
  • Instructions "DO NOT LIFT ONLY FASTEN".

* 1 daN = 1.02kgs

The color of the lashing strap tag indicates the material of the strap:

Polyester (PES) - blue

Polypropylene (PP) - brown.

Polyamide (PA) - green.

Other materials are white.

The materials from which the belts are made have different resistance to chemical attack. It must be remembered that when the outside temperature rises, the activity of chemicals increases. The chemical resistance of synthetic materials is reflected as follows:

  • polyester is resistant to mineral acids, but changes its properties under the influence of alkali;
  • polyamide is resistant to alkali, but is destroyed by acid;
  • polypropylene slightly reacts to alkalis and acids, is suitable for the transportation of chemical fertilizers, with the exception of certain types of solvents;

The color of the material for the belt is randomly selected by the manufacturer and does not provide information about the material or the strength of the belt.

The maximum permissible working load (LoadingCapacity, abbreviated - LC) of a lashing strap is the maximum allowable force that can be repeatedly applied to the strap without further deformation. When folded in half, this value is doubled.

The breaking strength of a serviceable lashing strap is at least twice the maximum allowable working load. The relative elongation (longitudinal deformation) of the belt when the maximum fastening force is reached should not exceed 7%.

Usage

When using lashing straps, weight, friction-slip coefficient and the shape of the transported load are taken into account. It is recommended to use at least two straps when fastening with a clamp. With direct attachment, the working load is taken into account.

Instructions for using the lashing straps are given below.

  • Only undamaged belts are used.
  • The belts are evenly spaced on the surface of the load to be fixed.
  • The belts do not exceed the maximum permissible working load.
  • Belts are not tied in a knot.
  • Belts do not stretch over sharp edges or sharp surfaces.
  • Install the belts so that they do not twist and wrap around the load to the full width.
  • Belts are used only as a means of securing, not for lifting loads.
  • Clear markings must be present.
  • The belts are checked for damage before use.

To avoid damage, all tensioning elements must operate without kickback (kickback). This requirement is fulfilled if the tensioning arm, which is under load, does not bounce by more than 15 cm when opening.

Tensioning elements must be installed so as to exclude the possibility of independent disconnection of the tensioning device in a taut state. To achieve a higher pre-tensioning force, do not connect any attachments or extensions to the tensioning arm.

Belt tape

The criteria for determining the wear of the belt are the following indicators:

  • Thread break or cut exceeds 10%
  • Break on the full width of the belt, or along the edge.
  • Damage to the connecting seams.
  • Deformation of the belt strap due to heat (friction).
  • Damage due to exposure to aggressive substances (chemicals).
  • Marking is missing or unreadable.

Tension element

  • The ratchet mechanism is removed from service in the presence of cracks, breaks, high degree of corrosion.
  • Deformation (bending) of the slotted shaft is a serious disadvantage.

End elements

Connecting elements are excluded from service under the following conditions:

  • cracks or fractures.
  • significant deformation.
  • severe corrosion.
  • expansion of the throat (hole) of the hook more than 5%.

We draw your attention to the inadmissibility of installing the end elements at the attachment points on the vehicle body that do not correspond to these end elements.

The development of heavy vehicles imposes special requirements on the reliability of fixing piece and packaged goods: after all, only the lazy does not complain about the quality of roads in our country. Therefore, any product is sent on the road only after careful fastening in the van of the car. For this purpose, special lashing belts are used. In most cases, they include a ratchet mechanism, and therefore are sometimes called ratchets (from the English ratchet - ratchet).

Types and designs of lashing belts

Lashing straps for securing cargo are produced in two varieties - in the form of elastic polypropylene tapes with Velcro fasteners (which allow you to create fastening due to the tensile force of the material) and with a mechanical clamp along the perimeter of the girth, which is provided by a tensioner. In this case, the tape itself is made of a tougher textile material that is not sensitive to external conditions of use. Thus, the second method, although structurally and more complicated, guarantees the constancy of the pulling force, which does not depend on the factors accompanying the transportation of the cargo.

There are two types of tightening elastic bands - steel and textile. They can be used:

  • With small drops in humidity and temperature;
  • In the absence of prolonged vibrations;
  • For transportation of relatively small cargo.

In addition, the grip of lashing straps with Velcro fasteners varies greatly over time. Therefore, sometimes a tension spring is also installed in the steel fasteners. However, the allowable retraction forces do not increase much.

Lashing straps equipped with ratchet mechanisms are much more effective and versatile. Such devices include:

  1. Wear-resistant tape, the parameters of which do not change when exposed to aggressive liquid media, and other unfavorable factors.
  2. Belt fixation unit - fitting, which is a steel hook or ring. The performance of the fitting is selected individually, according to the belt tension created during the packaging.
  3. A ratchet or ratchet that generates and maintains the required pulling force.

A ratchet lashing belt usually has two parts: a shorter one, on which, in addition to the fastening element, there is also a belt retainer relative to the inner surface of a truck or car body, and a longer one, at the end of which the ratchet mechanism is mounted.

The mechanism itself consists of the following parts:

  • Toothed ratchet with a pawl, which protects the belt from spontaneous unfastening;
  • Ratchet wrap lock;
  • Spring-loaded slewing ledge, with the help of which the belt length is adjusted;
  • Steel base by means of which the ratchet is connected directly to the tightening strap.

The ratchet mechanism is fastened either with rivets or brackets, which are supplied with one-piece locks. This is a rigid attachment, and the adjustment of the length of the lashing strap is ensured by the presence of a movable loop on the short part of the device.

Other fixing methods - buckles, winches - are not used in modern lashing belts.

Ratchet Lashing Belts Performance

The selection of the belt size is made depending on the following conditions:

  1. Weights and dimensions of the cargo.
  2. The nature of the cargo - long items, piece packages, bales, pallets, furniture, etc.
  3. Transportation conditions - open platform, closed van, trailer, etc.
  4. The accepted scheme of securing the cargo.

The following mounting options are most often used:

  • Bottom, if the bottom of the truck is even and flat, and the goods themselves are packed on one pallet;
  • Diagonal, if the cargo has a complex configuration and is not placed in a packaging container;
  • Mixed (criss-cross), if the edges of the pallet or the cargo itself are close to the edge of the platform, and therefore cannot be fixed by its sides;
  • Combined - it is used with significant height dimensions of the cargo, as a result of which it is impossible to fasten it to the side surfaces of the wagon or the trailer platform.

Lashing straps for securing loads are selected in the following sequence. First, the permissible width of one belt is set, which should not exceed the width of the corresponding horizontal platform through which the tightening belt will pass. When choosing this characteristic, it is taken into account that the standard dimensions of lashing belts in width must be selected from the following range, mm: 25, 35, 50, 75, 100 (wider versions are usually made on request).

The next step is to select the number and length of the lashing straps. These characteristics depend on the maximum perimeter of the cargo to be transported. The length of the lashing strap must also take into account the distance to the hook / ring and the possibility of adjusting the attachment so that the ratchet mechanism securely fixes the load.

The total belt length is set based on the following considerations:

  • The distance between adjacent belts may not exceed the largest dimension of the load. This rule applies to flat surfaces. When packing cargo in a protective plastic film, the distance should be reduced by at least half. The same applies to situations when fastening is carried out on uneven (oval, round, etc.) surfaces;
  • With a combined load securing, the upper girth of the ratchet should be carried out along the short, not along the long side;
  • The length of the free end of the belt should be at least two times its width, so that the ratchet mechanism is convenient to use.

Belt lengths in the range of 3 ... 6 meters are considered standard, but such designs are good for owners of individual vehicles. For heavy-duty transportation of heavy and oversized cargo, it is more optimal to purchase tie-down belts in coils, which are produced with a total length of 50 ... 200 m.

The last in sequence (but the most important in essence) is the choice of the lashing belt according to the allowable force. The limiting factor here is the textile tape, which may not withstand the forces that occur when transporting the load.

Lashing belts for fastening loads are produced with the following values of the greatest tightening force, kg: 1000; 2000; 3500; 5000; 7500; 10000. Taking into account the safety factor, the minimum allowable force safety factor cannot be less than 2 (this value increases for used belts). When choosing a belt size based on its maximum load, take into account the following:

  • When a truck or a trailer skids on an uneven road (as well as when the car is turning or when it is suddenly braked), a horizontal shear force equal to half of the total mass of the load acts on the load;
  • The mobility of the cargo on the platform / pallet increases sharply in conditions of high humidity, since the coefficient of friction at rest on a dry platform is on average 0.2 ... 0.22, and for a wet platform - 0.3 ... 0.35;
  • Deformation of the ratchet elements reduces the clamping force by 40 ... 50%.

Manufacturers and cost of lashing belts

The price of the devices under consideration depends on the width of the tape, its material, as well as the construction of the ratchet. The ratchet mechanism in HFS lashing belts from the German company SpanSet (or devices manufactured under license from this company) has the greatest operational reliability. Ratchets in HFS belts have an additional control option against possible loosening, which increases the safety of cargo transportation.

All ratchet parts must have an anti-corrosion coating and be made of high quality steel (not duralumin!). The fixing elements - hooks and loops - must also be corrosion-resistant.

The certificate for the material of the tie strap must contain the test results for resistance to surface exposure to moisture and process oils.

Lashing straps for securing loads after use must be thoroughly cleaned of dirt and particles of material stuck in the teeth of the ratchet, these simple procedures prolong the durability of the products.

The price range for lashing belts of domestic production is from 50 to 200 rubles per linear meter. m. for belts with low load capacity and minimum width, from 250 to 500 rubles per linear meter. m. - for belts with the greatest width and allowable tension force (while the reliability of the ratchet mechanism does not depend on the price). Imported products can be purchased at prices ranging from 700 to 1000 rubles per linear meter. m.

We have our own production of belts. This allows us to guarantee the high quality of the goods, which is confirmed by the certificate.

Our production is aimed at manufacturing demanded and high-quality products that are used in all climatic zones. Load securing belts manufactured by our company contribute to the reliable and safe transportation of various loads. Strict requirements dictate the use of certified and tested raw materials. The manufacturing process is automated and controlled at every stage.

As the main material for making the tape, polymers are used, which, when heated, take the form of the finest fibers. The use of polyester and multifilament yarns allows for high strength with low weight. To provide high tensile strength, the fibers are interwoven in several ways.

We make a ribbon from Russian and imported threads. Each batch of threads is tested in our production. The loads and thicknesses of the threads are checked.

For over 10 years we have been cooperating with thread suppliers whose quality has proven itself well.

We make belts from polyester threads - a durable material that is resistant to abrasion, static and dynamic stress.

The production of the next batch of belts for belts undergoes a comprehensive check by the quality control department at our enterprise.

The belts are stitched according to standards for a secure fit and never changed.

We produce lashing straps for securing cargo in standard lengths: 2.5m, 3.6m, 4m, 5m, 6m, 8m, 10m, 12m, 15m, 18m and 20m.

We also produce belts of non-standard lengths! Our staff will promptly calculate the size and load of the belt you require, and will help you make the right choice!

The width of our tapes ranges from 2.5 to 10 centimeters

We install a special ratchet lock on the tape, which ensures its tension and fastening.

The basic principle of their operation is similar to the device of sling - the ends of the tape can be connected to each other or have hooks on both sides. Such belts allow you to fasten even very large loads.
