Engine 2111 continued the series power plants, produced by VAZ, replacing models 21083 and 2110 on the conveyor. This motor is considered the first fully modified domestic injection engine.

Application and general characteristics of the engine

The 2111 unit could be installed on the entire Samara line, from 2108 to 2115, as well as on the "ten" and its modifications (2110-2112).

The duty cycle 2111 (injector) is classic, that is, it is carried out in four cycles. Fuel is supplied to the combustion chamber through injectors. The cylinders are arranged in one row. The camshaft is mounted on top. ICE cooling carried out forcibly with the help of a closed fluid system, and the lubrication of parts provides combined system lubricants.

Location under the hood of the car

The 2111 engine, together with the gearbox and clutch mechanism, forms a single power block, which in engine compartment machine is fixed on three rubber-metal supports.

To the right (if you look in the direction of movement of the car) from the cylinder block is a set of drives: a camshaft, as well as a pump for pumping antifreeze through the cooling system. The drives are made in the form of connected by a single belt. On the same side, a generator is installed, which is also connected by means of a crankshaft pulley.

A thermostat with a temperature sensor is fixed to the left of the cylinder block.

The starter is on the bottom front. Between it and the generator is an ignition module, from which come high voltage wires to candles. In the same place (to the right of the module) a dipstick is installed, immersed in the engine crankcase, for manual control of the oil level.

A receiver with a fuel rail and injectors is installed in the rear of the BC, a little lower is oil filter as well as intake and exhaust manifolds.

Features of the engine block 2111 (injector, 8 valves)

First of all, you can distinguish the model 2111 cylinder block from the 21083 block by the additional holes used to attach the generator bracket, as well as the ignition module and knock sensor.

The bolt holes for mounting the block head have a thread size of M12 x 1.25. The height of the block, if we take the distance from the axis of the crankshaft to the platform on which the cylinder head is installed as this value, is 194.8 cm. The initial cylinder diameter is 82 mm, but the repair boring can be carried out by 0.4 mm or by 0.8 mm. The wear limit of the "mirror" (surface) of the cylinder should not exceed 0.15 mm.

The engine 2111 has a crankshaft mod. 2112-1005015. By their own seats it is identical to the 2108 shaft, but its counterweights have larger size, and in addition, they have undergone additional factory processing, as a result of which it was possible to achieve a significant reduction in vibration during rotation, as well as increase its overall reliability.

Pistons and connecting rods

In terms of size, the pistons of the 2111 engine (injector) are similar to those installed on 21083 and also have a shockproof recess on the bottom, which ensures the safety of the valves if the timing belt breaks.

The difference lies in the special grooves for the snap rings, which prevent the displacement of the piston pin. The finger itself is different from the one used on the 2108. If outside diameter remained the same, that is - 22 mm, then the internal one was reduced to 13.5 mm (was - 15). In addition, it was shortened a little - by 0.5 mm (60.5 mm).

Size piston rings not modified - 82 mm, but the connecting rod was redone: its lower head became more massive, the profile changed, a more durable alloy resistant to mechanical stress was used for its manufacture.

The length of the connecting rod is 121 cm.

The cylinder head of the injection engine 2111 is the same as that installed on the model 21083, there is only one difference - the head mounting bolts are longer.

It is similar to 2110. Its seating dimensions coincide with the shaft from 2108, but the profile of the cams is somewhat different, which increased the valve lift: inlet - 9.6 mm, exhaust - 9.3 mm (in 2108, both of them rose by 9 mm ). In addition, the angles of inclination of the cams relative to the groove in which the pulley key is installed were changed. drive belt cylinder head.

Thanks to the changes made, the manufacturer managed to improve the performance of the 2111 engine.

As for the timing drive, it is structurally the same as on 21083. The belt (19 mm wide) has 111 teeth with an involute profile.

Other engine features

Due to the fact that after the engine was updated, the torque increased in it, the flywheel design was also changed: the clutch surface increased from 196 to 208 mm, the width of the crown also increased to 27.5 mm (the previous one was 20.9), in addition, the size and shape of its teeth have changed.

The starter matches the 2110, which has a 9 tooth pinion instead of 11.

This power unit is equipped with an oil pump 2112, which differs from the 2108 model only in that the housing cover is made of aluminum, on which the crankshaft sensor is attached.

The water pump in the cooling system is the same as on the 2108.

The generator is marked 9402 3701 (80A).

The engine is controlled electronic unit(ECU). Controllers (Bosch, GM or January) are suitable for this role.

The five-seat VAZ 2111 has become one of the most popular domestic cars produced in the station wagon body. Initially planned as a “dacha”, the VAZ 2111 turned out to be appropriate both for traveling with a small company and for use on city routes.

The material of the cylinder block is ductile iron, very hard.

Cooling is made uniform throughout the block, excluding uneven heating. The cooling jacket is open at the top towards the block head. There are five bearing supports at the bottom of the block crankshaft, their covers are bolted. The crankshaft is also made of special ductile iron. The connecting rod bearings are lubricated through oil valves that are drilled into the crankshaft. There are vibration reduction systems - from eight counterweights located on crankshaft. The oil pump is located in front of the crankshaft. toothed pulley timing belt. Behind the crankshaft is a cast iron flywheel.

The pistons have three rings: 2 for compression and 1 oil scraper. The piston material is aluminum alloy. On the bottoms of the pistons there is a recess for the combustion chamber and in the case of the VAZ 2112 engine there are 4 (2 per 2110) recesses for the valves. On a 16-valve engine, the pistons are cooled with oil. On a special fuel rail, 4 nozzles are installed, which are small tubes with spring-loaded balls in them. The oil sump is made of steel, stamped, attached to the bottom of the cylinder block.

On top of the cylinder block is a block head cast from an aluminum alloy. Channels are cast in the lower part of the head, through which the liquid circulates, which cools the combustion chambers. A camshaft is installed in the upper part of the head (for engines mod. 2112 - two camshafts: one for intake valves, the second - for graduation). At 8 valve engines the camshaft rotates in bearings, in the upper part of the block head and two bearing housings, secured with nuts on studs screwed into the block head. In a 16-valve engine, the camshafts are mounted in bearings, which are made in the upper part of the block head, and in a common bearing housing. The camshafts are cast iron. To reduce their wear, the working surfaces of the cams and the surfaces under the stuffing box and the eccentric of the fuel pump drive are heat treated. Distribution cams shafts through the pushers actuate the valves. At the engine mod. 2112 hydraulic valve lifters are installed, which do not need to be adjusted, unlike 8-valve engines.

On 8-valve engines (2110, 2111) there are two valves per cylinder: intake and exhaust, on 16-valve engines (2112) there are four valves - 2 intake and 2 exhaust. Guide bushings and valve seats are pressed into the block head.

On 8-valve engines (2110, 2111), two springs are installed on each valve, and on 16-valve engines (2112) - 1. The camshafts are driven by a toothed belt from the crankshaft.

Combined lubrication system: spray and pressure. Under pressure, the main and connecting rod bearings and supports camshafts. The system consists of an oil sump, gear oil pump with oil receiver, full flow oil filter, oil pressure switch and oil valves.

The engine cooling system is passive and active. There is a powerful electric fan that turns on at 115 degrees and turns off at 95.

The power system consists of the following units:

  • air filter;
  • fuel tank;
  • fuel pump;
  • fuel line;
  • 2110 - carburetor and 2112 - fuel rail with injectors and fuel pressure regulator;
  • Various sensors on 2112.

The fuel pump for the 2110 engine is located on the head of the block and is driven by an eccentric on the camshaft through a pusher. 16 cells engines, the fuel pump is electric, immersed in the tank and combined with a fuel level sensor.

All electronic system 8 and 16 valve engines are controlled by a controller (ECU), which also controls the entire engine power system.

Small-class cars VAZ-2110 (export name Lada 110) with a four-door five-seat body type sedan (according to international classification class C) are equipped with engines of 1.5 and 1.6 liters, with a power of 58–68 kW (79–92.5 hp), located across the engine compartment.

Previously, at the factory, cars were equipped with 1.5-liter engines: first with carburetors, and then with a system multipoint injection fuel. Currently, cars are equipped only with engines with a working volume of 1.6 liters: an eight-valve VAZ-21114 and a sixteen-valve VAZ-21124 with multiport fuel injection systems and three-way exhaust gas converters with feedback. Engines comply with Euro-2 and Euro-3 standards.

The body is load-bearing, all-metal, welded construction with hinged doors, front fenders, hood and trunk lid. The VAZ-2110 car is the first sedan in Russia with a hatch opening from the trunk leading to the passenger compartment, which allows you to transport long items.

Part of the release of modification 21103 with a 16-valve VAZ-2112 engine is equipped with air conditioning, and since the end of 2002, by order of ZF power steering.

This modification differs from the basic hood with an integrated radiator grille of a more modern shape and a front bumper, as well as original block headlights. Changed also rear lights, moldings and interior details.

In 1998, the production of the VAZ-2111 car (export name Lada 111) with a station wagon body was launched. The VAZ 2111 eight-valve injection engine is a logical continuation of the VAZ engine line. It replaced models 21083 and 2110. This unit was installed on all Lada Samara cars (from 2108 to 2115) and the tenth generation Lada (2110, 2111, 2112). It is considered the first modified injection apparatus on domestic cars. Let us describe the main technical parameters engine: connecting rod and piston group, cylinder block, fuel supply principle. We will also consider the cooling and lubrication systems of the engine.

General structure of the motor 2111

The serial number of the VAZ 2111 engine is 100026080. The following are stated in the operation and repair manual specifications unit.

Fuel supply system - injector with distributed injection. The VAZ engine control system is electronic using sensors. The motor runs in four strokes (intake, compression, power stroke, exhaust). When intake occurs in cylinders 1 and 4, 2 and 3 stand still. When the piston in the first and fourth cylinder rises and compresses the combustible mixture, air and fuel are admitted to the other two cylinders. Gasoline is injected into the cylinders using injectors.

The engine, together with the gearbox and clutch, form a single power unit. The fastening of this single unit in the engine compartment is carried out by means of three rubber-metal supports. When viewed from the driver's seat, the crankshaft, camshaft and coolant pump drives are located to the right of the cylinder block. Connection - using toothed belt(111 teeth). With the generator drive, which is also on the right, the internal combustion engine is connected by a V-ribbed belt.

On the left side there is a starter, an antifreeze temperature sensor, a thermostat. From the front, candles are screwed into the combustion chamber, on which high-voltage wires are put on. Also in the front is a knock sensor, a dipstick to check the oil level, a crankcase ventilation hose and the main source of energy is a generator. A receiver, a fuel rail with injectors, intake and exhaust manifolds, an oil filter and an oil pressure sensor are attached to the rear.

The declared resource of the engine 2111 is 150,000 km. The 16-valve injector has the same wear life.

The crank mechanism of the engine 2111

The cylinder block is made of cast iron, similar to model 21083. The factory diameter of the cylinder is 82 mm, when boring it can increase by 0.4 or 0.8 mm. Cylinders are divided into classes. Depending on the diameter, the model A,5,C,2,E is distinguished. Wear is allowed - no more than 0.15 mm.

Five main bearings with caps are attached to the bottom of the block. The middle support has nests for supporting half rings. They are designed to prevent the crankshaft from deviating from its axis. The crankshaft play must not exceed 0.26 mm. If the indicator is exceeded, the half rings are replaced.

Bearing shells (main and connecting rod) - thin-walled steel-aluminum alloy. The crankshaft material is high-strength cast iron. There are 5 main and 4 connecting rod journals on the shaft. Eight counterweights are cast on the shaft.

At the front end of the crankshaft is the camshaft drive pulley. The alternator drive pulley is attached to it with a pin. In the gap between the parts of the pulley there is elastic element which dampens crankshaft vibrations. There are only 60 teeth on the pulley, 2 of them are missing for definition top dead point (TDC) of the piston.

The other end of the shaft is attached to the flywheel. The flywheel is also cast iron. It is installed in such a way that the conical hole located near it stands exactly opposite the connecting rod neck of the fourth cylinder. This is necessary to set the TDC when the VAZ 2111 engine is being assembled.

Each connecting rod is made of steel, has an I-section. The upper head of the connecting rod is equipped with a steel-bronze bushing. Exists different classes connecting rods 2111, depending on the inner diameter of this bushing and the mass of the connecting rod. Diameter pitch - 0.004 mm. One engine must have connecting rods of the same marking.

This engine uses aluminum alloy pistons. The upper part is machined, has grooves for rings. in a groove oil scraper ring there is a hole for dumping the removed layer of oil into the finger. The hole for the finger in the piston itself is offset by 1 mm from the axis, therefore, when replacing, we look at the arrow that is stamped on the bottom. When looking for parts for repair, it is important to know that the piston bottom of the VAZ 2111 injector 8 valves is equipped with an oval recess. Not to be confused with a piston for a 16 valve engine. Its bottom has a flat shape and 4 notches for valves.

Pistons, depending on the diameter, are also divided into classes: A, B, C, D, E. When replacing, it is necessary to pay attention to the marking so that the piston matches the cylinder. The gap between new parts should not exceed 0.045 mm. A new piston can only be installed in a new cylinder or a bored one. The maximum difference in mass between the pistons is 5 g.

The compression of the VAZ 2111 engine should not fall below 10 atmospheres.
