The Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake station wagon has been declassified. Coupe CLS Shooting Brake from Mercedes How the CLS Shooting Brake drives

New nine-speed automatic transmission did not improve the acceleration dynamics of the CLS, but began to shift gears more smoothly, and transitions to new gears practically ceased to be noticeable.

Economics of Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake

Economical in mixed cycle in test mode does not exceed 5 liters/100 km. Of course, such efficiency is unlikely to be achieved in real life, but with leisurely driving around the city and its environs, most likely the car will not exceed the consumption limit of 6-7 liters/100 km. CO2 emissions - 149 g/km.

Exterior and interior of Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake

The only choice that will plague the Shooting Brake buyer is which engine is best to get, since updated model comes in one set.

The entire AMG range features stunning 19-inch AMG wheels, AMG body kit, lowered suspension, leather interior,Multibeam LED headlights, climate control, internet, satellite navigation, heated front seats and automatic tailgate.

The CLS Shooting Brake has many options and two additional specifications.

How does the CLS Shooting Brake drive?

The Shooting Brake lives up to its reputation. To say that driving it you get an unforgettable pleasure is to say nothing! No matter what road it is on, on the highway, on a winding country lane, in the city, everywhere this five-door shows an abundance of power and torque, as well as the well-coordinated operation of everything from the gearbox and engine to the suspension and brakes.

But the Shooting Brake looks best on the highway, of course. It was created for highways! Long trips, travel, long business trips, the CLS station wagon is more practical than is commonly believed. But at the same time, it is much more beautiful and more advantageous in appearance than the same E-Class Estate (although a matter of taste rather plays a role here).

New Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake 2013 model year- another example of success German company in creating a new design. And Mercedes is especially successful with new models in the coupe-like car segment. In terms of proportions, the new Mercedes CLS A station wagon is, of course, a coupe, but with five doors and a roof that extends to the tailgate.

More new premium cars:
,

The idea of a four-door coupe was successfully implemented back in 2004 with the first CLS, and continued in 2010 with the second generation of Mercedes-Benz CLS. And here is another bold step from the designers of the German company - we meet the Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake - a station wagon coupe.

Body design

In essence, the car is absolutely new option sports car for five people, with spacious trunk and impressive size back door. The manufacturing company is positioning it as a special offer for those who want to stand out from the mainstream and are not afraid of being misunderstood.

And in general, even from the photo of the Mercedes CLS station wagon, it is not difficult to notice all the advantages attributed to it by its creators. It's safe to assume that the CLS Shooting Brake has enough potential to become a role model in a new market segment.
Extravagant and unique characteristics of the new Mercedes station wagon are the wooden floor in the luggage compartment, which is truly exclusive to the automotive industry.

The wood chosen for finishing, and not just any wood, but cherry, is considered a classic option among thin woods and goes well with oak inlay and aluminum guides. Thanks to such an elegant solution luggage compartment makes a car similar to... a yacht. The floor covering technology involves the use of American cherry wood, five layers of veneer from which are glued together by hand and securely fixed. Then the surface is sanded smooth and coated with waterproof varnishes, which allows you to preserve the natural beauty of the wood for a long time. For the inlay, dark oak is used, cut into three-millimeter strips using laser technology!, and in general this composition, of course, helps to enhance the aesthetic perception of the wooden floor. The generously polished aluminum slide rails with rubber inserts not only help protect your wood floors, but are also anti-slip for added comfort.

A practical car owner, who, in theory, should be the owner of a station wagon, may have a legitimate question - well, why all this unique expensive manual finishing on the trunk floor?! Or is this the only level place on which designers were able to develop their delights?! However, these questions are rhetorical. As well as, for example, why do you need a gold washbasin... Potential buyers will certainly be delighted with such an exclusive item.

Interior - content, materials and quality of trim

The 2013 Mercedes CLS Coupe has already set new standards in the interior with its variety of customization options. Mercedes-Benz CLS The wagon also offers five colors and five trim options, as well as three leather options to choose from.

Customers can choose from three exclusive woods: high-gloss brown walnut, high-gloss black ash and matte light brown poplar. The interior will look even more progressive with the addition of piano lacquer, and in the AMG package - carbon fiber and black piano lacquer for interior elements.

The premiere of the new Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake of the 2013 model with an enchanting body - a station wagon coupe - is planned for the fall of 2012 at the Paris Motor Show.

However, the beauty and luxury of this car could not cloud our eyes. Over the May holidays, we drove through seven regions, subjecting the luxury station wagon to a 4,200-kilometer range in Russian reality.

The fact that it is Mercedes-Benz that will revive the half-forgotten class of “shooting brakes” did not cause much surprise. In Stuttgart, the dog has already been sent to a series of experimental projects straight from the exhibition podium, creating new body types, and, by and large, new trends in the automotive industry.

And the very term Shooting Brake (in the historical interpretation - “a horse-drawn hunting carriage for aristocrats”), even taking into account its purely practical purpose, implies an emphasis on the privileged segment of the population, that is, no savings on luxury. And Mercedes knows a lot about it.

Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake is a relatively free interpretation by the Germans of a very specific body type. Invented in the 60s of the last century by British automakers, “shooting brakes” were primarily three-door (!) station wagons, built, as a rule, on the basis of expensive sports coupes.

In Germany at the beginning of the twenty-first century, the model had five doors, and the technical basis was a comfortable E-class sedan, underlying and CLS sedan. But this is, as they say, in fact. The eyes see something else...

Hunting wagon?! Yes, crouched on rear axle The CLS looks like it's about to jump on the victim itself! It’s hard to even remember offhand cars with such perfectly drawn forms, delicately calculated proportions and exquisitely completed style. The predatory station wagon is drawn so organically, as if it was done with one wave of the hand!

The frameless doors inherited from the sedan give the CLS a special touch. However, if everyone is already accustomed to “four-door coupes,” then on a station wagon this feature looks especially extravagant. And is it a station wagon? The falling “stern” with the blade of the side windows is made so exquisitely that it’s hard to classify the car as a “barn” - Shooting Brake! Probably the most beautiful station wagon Russian market and one of the most beautiful Mercedes.

But inside, only luxury pleases the eye. Stylistically, the CLS almost completely copies the interior of the regular E-class. But timeless classics in the form of trim from cream and dark brown leather, natural wood and metal allow you to feel an incredible atmosphere of comfort.

Kinesthetics will experience a special pleasure: the quality of finishing, the level of fit and joining of different textured materials is beyond praise. With the onset of darkness, when inner space filled with the gentle warm glow of turquoise lighting flowing from under the panels, you don’t want to leave the CLS interior at all... And all this is the basic version!

Surprisingly, there are questions about the ergonomics of a German premium car. Over time, the left hand still gets used to controlling as many as three (!) steering column switches, which are responsible for a total of a dozen functions.

But the twelve electrically adjustable front seats are from the category of “the best is the enemy of the good.” With so many settings, a lot of time is spent on the optimal position, and in the future, even while driving, you still try to find options for the ideal fit, experimenting with the buttons of the branded “microchair”.

Perhaps this is due to the fact that the profile of the seats is what is called universal: the seat is slightly wider than we would like, and lateral support is present, but not intrusive. And there are no complaints about the density - it is ideal. And both front seats have memory for three positions, three-stage heating and ventilation.

Rear passengers were no less lucky. The main thing is to bend down lower so as not to hit your head on the falling window opening. You literally fall into a sofa molded for two, like into a cradle, finding yourself in the world of Mercedes comfort. The super-sloping roofline is a visual deception that does not in any way affect the amount of space above your head - there is plenty of it, as well as in front of your knees. Before full picture The only thing missing is “executive” options like heating the sofa, curtains for the windows or monitors in front of your eyes.

Surprisingly, in pursuit of beauty and style, the designers managed to pay attention to the trunk. Not only does its volume reach 550 liters in the nominal position and 1,550 liters when folded, but there was also enough space in the underground for an 18-inch storage compartment, a subwoofer and several deep additional compartments.

Only for those who are going to use the Shooting Brake trunk direct purpose, you have to sympathize: even in cargo compartment there is a finishing made of delicate cream pile, and chrome is found not only on the thresholds, but also on the seatback latches. Looking ahead, I will say that my conscience did not allow me to throw a broken tire into this beauty - I had to look for a tarpaulin backing.

Traditionally for any German car Pockets, nets, latches and hooks for securing luggage are conveniently scattered throughout the strictly rectangular trunk. An electric tailgate on such a car is a self-evident attribute. No matter how the car looks or how much it costs, you only truly realize that you are in a Mercedes-Benz when it’s in motion. When a Mercedes is driving, then it doesn’t matter at all how many levers there are under the steering wheel, what color the interior is and how many horses are under the hood.

In our CLS350, by the way, there are neither more nor less of them, but 306 pieces. Moreover, for the test we got the most affordable version with a 3.5-liter petrol “six” and rear wheel drive. Russians also have access to the all-wheel drive CLS350 CDI and the top-end CLS500. At the top of the range is the CLS 63 AMG hyperstation wagon with 585 horsepower. But I don’t really want to drive and check the passport 6.1 seconds to “hundreds”. You slowly emerge from every turn on the Shooting Brake, flaunting the grace and shape of your incredibly beautiful snow-white “body.” Mercedes literally creates an aura of softness and comfort around you, slowly reacting to steering wheel deviations, smoothly to pressing the pedals and very quietly when driving over bumps.

At the same time, despite the loss in size, the CLS is not much inferior to the older S-class in terms of solidity, and in the attention of others it surpasses it by an order of magnitude - wherever the “Shooting Brake” appeared, it instantly became a show stopper! But the inhabitants of the cabin don’t care what’s going on outside. Mercedes completely and on all fronts isolates the driver and passengers from the external environment. Excellent sound insulation, zero tinting and incredible smoothness. The only thing I want to do is quickly find my favorite song in the track list. Excellent acoustic system Harman/Kardon finally detaches oneself from the frailty of the bustling world outside the window.

But you just have to press harder on the accelerator and... no, the Mercedes doesn’t start to accelerate aggressively, doesn’t go “to the point”, doesn’t press into the back of the seat. Or rather, yes, that’s all true! But the words are completely wrong... The CLS Shooting Brake turns into a devourer of space and time. Each acceleration gives some amazing feeling of the unreality of what is happening. In an instant, the landscape outside the window blurs, and the road, going towards the horizon, narrows into a single line. And all this with phenomenal directional stability and almost complete silence - only the muffled noble rumbling of the V-shaped “six”.

In such an atmosphere, any distance is reduced by half, forcing you to include more and more new places in your travel plan. It’s not surprising that during the nine days of testing, we managed to drive a Mercedes-Benz 4,200 km across seven regions, almost without noticing it. The elasticity of the 3.5-liter engine is excellent. Paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission 7G-Tronic, Mercedes always and at any speed understands the driver’s wishes instantly, or rather, half-action. However, there is one “but”. The car should always be in Sport mode.

By and large, there is no real “sportiness” in the car. It’s just that against the backdrop of the extremely measured Eco mode, in which Mercedes is by default, the car’s reactions become linear and clear. The way they should be!

At the same time, fuel consumption remains at a reasonable level. With extremely active highway driving, the CLS consumes about 10-11.5 liters per 100 km. With an 80-liter tank, this gives very good autonomy. The reality of what is happening is brought back by road traffic and... domestic roads. Unfortunately, our car did not have the proprietary active “cruise” Distronic Plus, so we had to be distracted by braking in front of trucks almost more often than accelerating.

The 2012 Geneva Motor Show opened for car enthusiasts new Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake. The exterior of the car was presented as a sporty coupe station wagon.

The wheelbase has become a little longer, as has the length. But the height has lost three millimeters.

In general, the dimensions of the station wagon became as follows:

  • length 4956 mm;
  • width 1881 mm;
  • height 1413 mm.

In appearance the car is striking with its muscular forms, LED optics and solid alloy wheels R
20. The complex headlights received 71 diodes each, of which a damn dozen are for turn signals, a dozen for the night vision system and a couple for illuminating the turning section. Engineers also taught the car to automatically switch from low beam to high beam.

The Shooting Brake received a voluminous trunk with a capacity of 590 liters.
And with the seats folded down back row this space increases to 1548 liters. If desired, you can order separately interior decoration trunk panels made of American cherry with bog oak inserts.

The car's engine range includes diesel and gasoline units.
The base diesel engine is considered to be a 2.1-liter engine with a power of 204 l/s. The "weakest" gasoline unit is an engine with a volume of 3.5 liters and a power of 306 l/s, the fuel consumption of which is 5.3 liters per hundred kilometers. The flagship can be called an eight-cylinder engine with a volume of 4.6 liters and a power of 408 l/s. It requires in the combined cycle from 9.3 to 9.9 liters of gasoline per hundred kilometers.

Basic version of Mercedes CLS—class Shooting Brake
has front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is offered as an optional extra.

In the Shooting Brake station wagon line There is also a “charged” version of the car. In its external appearance we will find such differences from standard version, like LED strips and redesigned air intakes and a splitter covered in carbon fiber. Diving into the cabin, we’ll notice the absence of wooden inserts, instead of which we’ll find the same carbon fiber. We also note a different location of the central tunnel control buttons.

On Paris Motor Show 2010 debuted a new one, and exactly two years later it took place there, in Paris world premiere Shooting Brake station wagon based on it.

The front part of the new product completely replicates the four-door coupe, and the rear part is designed in the style of the same name, which was shown at the April 2010 Beijing Motor Show.
