The 11186 engine is the minimum power plant in terms of power. which is standardly equipped with Lada Granta and Lada Kalina cars. The VAZ 11186 engine is standardly aggregated with a manual transmission. The serial production of the engine began in 2011. Environmental standards Euro-4.

It is the second iteration of the revision of the classic front-wheel drive engine 21083. The VAZ 21114 engine with a volume of 1.6 liters is considered the predecessor. The motor has an additional index VAZ 21116. The main difference lies in the use of a piston system on 11186, manufactured by AvtoVAZ, and not by Federal Mogul.

The declared engine resource is 200,000 km. The actual mileage before the first overhaul is not recorded. The Russian manufacturer does not have the practice of controlling type cars by mileage. According to the available unverified reviews, the actual mileage exceeds the resource 21114, but does not reach the declared one.

Modifications applied to the engine

To ensure a normal temperature of 95C when using gasoline with an octane rating of at least 95, the cooling system has been revised. Changed in the direction of increasing the area, flow section of the cooling channels, and the volume of the antifreeze to be poured increased.

The changes were made to the internal bores of the engine head. To ensure an increased flow rate of antifreeze per second, a pump from a 16-valve engine is installed on the engine. In addition, the design of the thermostat has been changed.

In order to reduce fuel consumption and improve engine reliability, major improvements have been made. The engine is equipped with a connecting rod and piston group that is almost 40% lightweight compared to the VAZ-21114 engine. This change made it possible to reduce not only the weight of the engine itself, but, more importantly, reduced the inertia of the entire system. Constructive innovation allowed to increase the declared resource before overhaul.

Externally, the motor also differs from its predecessor. A longer intake tract was installed, which made it possible to achieve a higher torque value and bring the performance of an 8-valve engine closer to a 16-valve one.

The exhaust manifold has elongated pipes and a more volumetric resonator, which greatly facilitates the breathing of the engine on the exhaust, since the aerodynamic resistance of the exhaust tract is reduced.

The generator mounting bracket has been changed to provide the ability to adjust the drive belt using an eccentric roller tensioner. This design is also used on VAZ Vesta car engines.

Fuel used

The engine is designed to use fuel with an octane rating of at least 95. The use of 92 gasoline, according to the manufacturer's data, is not permissible.

Oil used

According to the passport data and instructions for the technical operation of the power plant, synthetic and semi-synthetic oils are used. The use of mineral motor oils is not intended. The viscosity of the oil is selected based on the climatic characteristics of the region of operation.

Rosneft Maximum engine oil is used as an oil for maintenance.

Maintenance frequency and cost

The regulated frequency of maintenance is 15,000 km or 1 year, whichever comes first. The calendar service period is set based on the criteria for maintaining the lubricating properties of the engine oil, taking into account its possible oxidation. The air supply filter element is changed every 30,000 km, as are the spark plugs.

The first valve adjustment is performed after the engine running in when passing TO-0, then by 15,000 km with TO-1 and then with an interval of 30,000 km. On TO-5 (75,000 km), the oxygen sensor changes, and the alternator drive belt changes with a run of 90,000 km.

The average cost of maintenance, taking into account the verification of the rest of the car systems, excluding the cost of consumables, does not exceed 5,000 rubles.

Major malfunctions

Structurally, it is possible to bend the valve when the timing belt breaks. Using only the original belt avoids this problem. The problem can arise with poor-quality assembly, which is rare, or when the belt tensioning system fails. In the event of an emergency, the camshaft and even the crankshaft may bend.

After carrying out repairs without replacing the main and connecting rod bushings, the pressure in the oil system may drop, and oil consumption may increase. It is not possible to determine whether the valve bends when the belt actually breaks under operating conditions, since there is no open manufacturer's data on such a malfunction.

Replacing the timing belt is not regulated by maintenance programs.

Troenie, misfire. Failure of the ignition unit. A malfunction occurs due to a defect in the unit itself. The unit is not repairable and is completely replaceable.

Overheat. It is associated with contamination of the surface of the cooling radiator. Another reason is a malfunction of the thermostatic element, which can freeze in the open or closed position. Increased idle speed. This malfunction indicates a break in the crankcase suction pipe.

Possibilities of revision and tuning of the engine

As an option to increase the engine power, it is possible to carry out chip tuning in order to remove the restriction on the environmental class. The total percentage of power increase will not exceed 2-5%.

Replacing the camshaft. Not economically feasible, as well as installing a turbocharger. Replacing the camshaft and receiver will remove 100 hp from the engine. If you additionally rework the cylinder head bores, you can win an additional 20 hp.

To carry out such modifications, it is first of all necessary to change the design of the engine from SOHC to DOHC. That is, it is necessary to replace the cylinder head with a 16 valve with two camshafts. Such a replacement will increase the possible power of the 8 valve motor up to 120 hp. without significantly affecting the overall engine life.

In fact, the revision of the motor comes down to converting it into a 16-valve version with the possibility of further refinement and increase in power.

Grants: Constructors on wheels. Everything breaks (electrical, suspension, chassis, engines, etc., etc.) and what is most dangerous - unpredictable ... Surprisingly, but with old boxes and with 82 hp. engines, the spectrum of breakdowns was predictable and not critical. With new engines and gearboxes, problems were added. Although it is worth noting that with proper care and regular preventive maintenance of the timing belt tension, the new 87-horsepower engine is very reliable, but I repeat, every MOT is a timing inspection! But the designers presented the most unpleasant gift in the form of 16 cl. engines (see review about Vesta)! Not only are they incorrigible, and they officially declare this and do not deny dealer services, they rattle valves on a cold engine (later, this progresses even on a warmed-up one - diesel rattling does not go away), so this unfortunate defective tensioner roller uncompromisingly crumbles the valves, cutting off timing belt. The wear of the new boxes is a little less critical than that of the old ones, but the cost of restoration is many times over! above ... Conclusion: Largus - only with imported motors, in the most extreme case with our 87-horsepower engine with the condition of strict monitoring of the timing. If you have even hands of masters or your own, you can only contact 8 cells. models and only for reasons of economy. Vesta with poor 16 cl. engines and AMT are best avoided. Yes, I almost forgot to mention - Grant's Japanese automatic transmissions are simply gorgeous and hassle-free!

An elegant move was found, and for rubles: under the hood, a native VAZ eight-valve VAZ-1118 was registered. A Largus with such a motor costs from 497,500 rubles for a van and from 524,500 rubles for a station wagon.

The engine was assigned its own index VAZ-11189, since the supports and the entire set of attachments (power steering pump, generator, air conditioning compressor) were changed. But the essence is still the same: this motor with a lightweight connecting rod-piston group is well known to the owners of front-wheel drive Ladas and Datsuns as a reliable and easy-to-maintain unit.

To install the VAZ-11189 engine on the Largus, a re-arrangement was required: the battery was moved, the fuse box was changed, the coolant expansion tank was moved to the right wing. In its place is now the air filter housing from Vesta. The air intake-resonator, of course, is also of a new design. Hoses, lines, wiring harnesses are laid otherwise.

The new engine is paired with a 5-speed JR5 gearbox, designed for torque up to 200 Nm. It is familiar from the cars of the Renault-Nissan alliance - it is installed, for example, on the Sandero Stepway. The box is adapted to the Russian engine: gear pairs with different gear ratios are selected. The shift mechanism is driven by a cable. But the clutch is in charge of hydraulics.

In addition, the car received a new clutch housing, common with the XRAY model, as well as a driven disc and a LuK basket.

I managed to knock out a five-seater Largus with a new engine that had just rolled off the assembly line for a short trip. If you do not open the hood, nothing gives out the domestic unit. By the way, the 16-valve K4M engine is now also assembled in Togliatti, and it is included in the Euro-5 standards. Payback for the environment - a drop in power from 105 to 102 hp, and torque - from 148 to 145 Nm.
