Good afternoon everyone! On May 6, 2018, I bought a Suzuki Vitara at a showroom on the Enthusiasts Highway. My managers were Alexandra Kuznetsova, and Alexey Devyatkov for trading. I wanted to thank them very much for their work. Alexandra is simply smart, she tried to meet everyone halfway in everything, she is a very nice girl. Alexey is also a competent specialist; my car, which I rented out, was thoroughly inspected and adequately assessed. I was very pleased to communicate with them and the purchasing process was a pleasure. We kindly ask management to find an opportunity to reward these employees. Thank you.

I have lived a long time and the SUZUKI VITARA I recently bought was my thirteenth. And I bought it on April 13th. But the refutation of the “unluckiness” of the number THIRTEEN began with the first steps when visiting the HERMES car dealership on Red Pine Street. Friendliness, desire and ability to answer any question from a potential buyer, high professionalism, knowledge of the car down to the smallest detail... There is no end to the list of positive things you get in the salon. I have something to compare with! And I observed a similar attitude in HERMES on Red Pine towards other customers, young and healthy. This was not compassion for an old woman, a disabled person. This is the SUZUKI HERMES dealer's working style. Unfortunately, not all SUZUKI dealers are SO HELPFUL AND COURTESY. I will not name the dealer where I booked a SUZUKKA car on April 12. But, having bought the car I needed at a more favorable price for me at HERMES, it cost me a lot of work and nerves to return on the 13th the material funds left with the company when making the reservation. Only the “threat” of writing a complaint helped me receive money on the day of arrival. And HERMES on Red Pine to this day maintains the positive that I received when buying a car from them: I have repeatedly received and am receiving advice by phone, because an old lonely woman has many questions about operating a new car. Although my trade-in JIMNY and VITARA are similar. But all sorts of buttons, keys - everything is unusual, unfamiliar. Once I find the time, I’ll open the book and stop tormenting the charming Alexey (Alexey Sergeevich Eltovsky), the brutal Sergei (Sergey Dmitrievich Lepilin) with questions. You will laugh, but I will also service the car at Red Pine, even though it’s not a low beam from my house. I hope that the personnel selected by the management of SUZUKI MOTOR RUS for the station Maintenance will be just as professional, friendly and positive as the sales staff. JIMNY was my friend, serving faithfully for almost 11 years. I hope that VITARA will not disappoint. And buying on the THIRTEENTH will be a happy one! Thank you SUZUKI MOTOR RUS both for the SUZUKI cars and for the competently selected staff. Take care of them - they are the key to your success in our Market. Semenenko Olga Vsevolodovna

In March this year, Suzuki is launching the S trim level of its compact crossover Vitara. The prefix stands for the new aluminum 1.4-liter BoosterJet turbo engine with direct injection producing 140 hp. Apart from the engine, this crossover seems to be no different from other versions of the car. It has standard settings for suspension, steering and brake system. In short, this Vitara doesn’t even qualify as a warmed-up version of the crossover, let alone a hot one. Therefore, the letter S in the name of this “Vitara” is rather redundant. However, we still have to figure out what kind of “beast” this BoosterJet is.

First impression

First meeting with compact crossover took place last year on winding country roads in the south of France. Then it was granted Vitara basic configuration with 120-horsepower naturally aspirated. New test drive, already with powerful Suzuki Vitara S will take place in the mountains of northern Spain, near Bilbao.

Yes, perhaps the mountains here are not as high and the cliffs are not as steep as on the Cote d'Azur, but the serpentines with noticeable differences in elevation are certainly no worse here. And it is on them that the difference between the engines is best felt. And believe me, she is colossal.

A little braking before the turn, entry - and you can, in racing parlance, “open up”. Each press of the Vitara S gas pedal at the exit of the next bend is a pure thrill. No failure, no turbo lag. Just a slight pause, which I don’t even want to call a hitch, and the engine immediately wakes up and with the grace of Heidi Krieger “throws” the crossover forward. The fact is that the aluminum Boosterjet turbocharger has very low inertia, so the maximum 220 Nm of torque is available from 1500 rpm and is “smeared” right up to 4000 rpm. For the same reason, the crossover pleases with vigorous pickup in almost the entire operating speed range.

However, the gearbox makes a significant contribution to the overall cause. After all, the new turbo engine also comes with new mechanics. To replace the old one five-speed gearbox a modern six-speed has arrived manual transmission. Her short passes in combination with a not very long-travel clutch pedal only enhances the feeling of acceleration dynamics. Especially on the highway, when the accelerator pedal can be placed on the floor. The tachometer needle, accompanied by the whistle of the turbine, instantly flies up to the red zone.

However, for Russian buyers This innovation is not very relevant. IN dealerships Suzuki will supply our vast homeland only with a two-pedal version of the Vitara S, equipped with a six-speed Aisin automatic transmission.

Conclusion

Overpay for new Vitara The S with its exciting turbo engine is worth a couple of hundred thousand rubles only if you don't like faster and more affordable competitors. For the rest, the already familiar GL+ equipment with a 1.6-liter engine, all-wheel drive and a manual gearbox is suitable.

Suzuki Vitara S. Price: not determined. On sale: February 2016

For analog watches you can order a dial with hieroglyphs

Just a few days before Vitara test I drove a regular Vitara and was pleasantly surprised. Against the backdrop of the frankly boring Suzuki SX4 (by the way, it has been removed from sale for now - dealers are waiting updated version, which will appear in the fall), this crossover looks prettier and drives better. But here’s the price... For such a “baby”, and even with a naturally aspirated 1.6, almost one and a half million in the “top” is clearly too much. Well, the version with the latest 1.4-liter Boosterjet turbo engine will probably be even more expensive. What does this mean, I think it’s clear? The new product may not even be introduced to our market - that’s what I thought before the trip...

The media system supports the Apple CarPlay interface

However, they invited me for a test, the car was interesting, I had to go. Moreover, they invited me not just anywhere, but to the capital of the Basque Country, Bilbao. I have never been to this part of Spain, and if I had flown here blindfolded, I probably would not have believed that this was Spain at all. After a short layover in warm and sunny Madrid, we landed in the rain and cold. But the flight between the “two capitals” is less than an hour! The difference in vegetation is as colossal as in the weather: there are almost no palm trees, but pine and birch trees are almost more common than in Russia.

Vitara is the only crossover in its class to have LED low beams

The cars were waiting for us right at the airport. Bah, not only the engine was changed here! The new “toothy” radiator grille, made up of chrome boomerang corners, looks much cooler and more aggressive than the regular Vitara, and the LED (!) low-beam headlights, “summed up” by a red border, make the car even angrier. To top it all off, there are black 17-inch wheels (these are only installed on the Vitara S) and red-on-black interior stitching with red rims on the instruments and air ducts. Truly the devil is in the details!

The pedal covers plus rims and red stitching are all that distinguishes the interior of the new product from the regular Vitara

Apart from the red decor and stainless steel pedals, the Vitara S doesn't really show itself off inside. Even the seats are standard, although it’s hard to complain about them: the profile is correct, the fit is comfortable, and there is lateral support. Yes, and sewn into the middle of the seats faux suede holds the rider tenaciously, preventing him from slipping in turns. I tested this the hard way, having become a co-driver for a “hot” owner Lancer Evo. How we were tossed along the serpentines of the Basque hills! Moreover, the pouring rain only irritated my colleague - after all, it’s easier to skid the car this way. But even with the stabilization system disabled, the all-wheel drive Vitara S actively resisted attempts to force it to move with its stern, clinging to wet asphalt, like a cat for a carpet. From the point of view of drive, the result is so-so (and it couldn’t have been otherwise, because the chassis is also standard here), but from the point of view of safety, the car scored five points out of five - the all-wheel drive worked well.

And at the back there are no differences at all...

Realizing that drifting was cancelled, my colleague willingly gave up the steering wheel, and having already rolled out onto the freeway, I realized what the feature of the new product was. With a relatively small weight, the car has excellent power supply. The 1.4-liter “Boosterjet” produces maximum torque already at 1500 rpm and maintains this bar until 4000 rpm, at which the torque of the naturally aspirated “Suzuki” 1.6 only reaches its peak. As a result, the “turbo devil” shoots out like a champagne cork! On the highway, the character of the new product was revealed in full force- I haven’t experienced such a drive behind the wheel of a crossover since I tested the 2.0-liter Tiguan, but that one had more power and a noticeably higher price tag. Here everything is more modest, but you get no less pleasure from driving. And all this with ridiculous fuel consumption - about 8 liters per hundred (Tiguan consumed almost 12). It’s hard to believe, but with excellent dynamics, the 140-horsepower Vitara turned out to be even slightly more economical than the slower 117-horsepower!

And now about the price. Eat good news: the turbocharged Vitara S will cost at the level of the “top” naturally aspirated one, due to the fact that the expensive sliding glass roof will be excluded from the list of equipment of the new product. All other options (and the Vitara S is packed to the brim with them by default) will remain in place. This will give Suzuki sellers additional benefit: after all, there are a lot of crossovers on the market for the same money, but for the same money, with the same dynamics and the same rich equipment - one, two, it’s a mistake.

Driving

The dynamics are good and fuel consumption is low, but the handling is by no means sporty.

Salon

Everything is very worthy - the only thing I can complain about is the hard plastic

Comfort

Surprisingly spacious (relative to the size of the car). The engine is not annoying with noise, and the suspension is not shaking

Safety

7 airbags, ESP and 5 Euro NCAP stars

Price

Expensive, but if we don’t cross the 1.5 million bar, the model has a chance

Verdict

It is expected that a Vitara S with an automatic transmission (we won’t have manual cars) will cost approximately the same as a regular Vitara 1.6 with full “stuffing” or a little more. But it will feel like a completely different car, capable of interest not only a narrow circle of Russian fans of the Suzuki brand.

How to decipher the prefix S in the name Suzuki Vitara - Sport, Self-Expression, Courage? Perhaps a little bit of everything? But if we continue this childish game of cryptographers, I would say that the most appropriate word here is “Swift.” Where to strive and what to aim for Japanese crossover, let's figure it out together.

Many generations of car enthusiasts associate it with the image of a real SUV, albeit of modest size. But there was never any talk about any driving versions of the model. However, the company decided to keep up with the times: in front of me is a crossover with this name - and in an “evil” color combination, red and black, plus a 1.4-liter turbo engine and a sporty interior trim. Which sport does Eska gravitate towards more? Let's see together.

Important little things

How can you externally distinguish the S-version from the regular Vitara with a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engine? We have several on this matter simple rules. First, take a close look at the grille. In the S version, it received large vertical chrome “pillars” instead of horizontal stripes, and the mesh cells became larger. Our car is also painted in three colors at once. In addition to the contrasting combination of the main color and roof, available to all Vitars, the exterior rear-view mirrors are painted in additional gray. Designers haven’t forgotten about personal rims for "eski", her 17" wheels received an expressive form.

Our test Suzuki Vitara S is equipped with not only LED running lights, but also LED headlights headlights are still a rare occurrence outside the premium class. Looking ahead, I’ll note that they shine excellently, and the sensitivity threshold of the light sensor is high enough, so that in tunnels during the day you don’t have to turn on the “low beam” yourself. The clearance of the “Sport” also has not changed – 185 mm– compared to a crossover without the “S” prefix. There is nothing surprising in this, because sports can be different, and crossovers have their own - if not cross-country (pardon the pun), then at least off-road. Tests in snow-covered forests and urban ice showed that the only possible place for the vehicle to contact the ground during careless driving is the strong protection of the power unit.

Of course we would like it to front overhang was shorter because it prevents the realization of other reserves geometric cross-country ability“Vitara” – its ramp and departure angles are quite good. When actively driving in rain and slush, the thresholds are often splashed, and there is a risk of getting your pants dirty from them - you need to remember this. Dirty road debris also harms the rear view camera: although it is located in a secluded place - near the license plate light - it has to be cleaned periodically.

In the center of the circle

The interior of the “warmed up” version of the crossover has much more differences from the “civilian” version than the exterior. So, red stitching runs across all seats, steering wheel and gearshift lever cover, as a symbol of an emotional car. In our configuration, the seats are upholstered in leather and Alcantara. Their lateral support, although not the brightest in the class, is quite functional. All seat adjustments are mechanical. On back row there is enough space. It's a pity that the doorway seemed narrow to me.

Alcantara seats - distinctive feature Suzuki is in a class of its own.
There is not so little space in the gallery; the transmission tunnel will not interfere.

The Vitara's dashboard differs stylistically from many others. modern cars, primarily due to the contrasting frames around the air deflectors and the clock. The latter, by the way, is one of the most striking details of the interior; the clocks in dark time days when they are romantically illuminated from within. The S-version dashboard lost its body-color insert, but received an aluminum trim. Towards quality Hungarian assembly I didn't have any complaints about the car. Though test car and has already run 15,000 km, but this has not affected the “density” of the structure - no creaks or knocks for you.
A hint about the branded all-wheel drive is located on the dashboard.
Round deflectors may seem old-fashioned to some, but we didn’t think so. In such an interior, air ducts of a different shape would look ridiculous.

The main place on the center console is allocated to the 7-inch touch display. Multimedia (by the way, from the authoritative German) pleased me with the presence of Apple Car Play, so the lack of standard navigation was brightened up thanks to the standard “Apple” maps in my phone. And I’m generally silent about the breadth of media playback sources; take your pick – I don’t want to. The infotainment system has several touch buttons around the perimeter of the screen, the location of which takes some getting used to.
The radio station search bar looks interesting.
Once you connect your iPhone to the car via USB, the display turns into a smartphone.

On the transmission tunnel there was only room for the all-wheel drive control unit. Steering wheel, covered perforated leather, has a very good shape with tides under the thumbs. The telephone control buttons are grouped on it into a separate block so as not to be confused with the cruise control and audio system buttons; it's comfortable.
A very comfortable steering wheel with tides helps when taxiing.

A luggage compartment with a double bottom is good because under the main floor you can hide small items that you constantly have to carry in the car, and at the same time you will have all the main space free. The volume of this “upper compartment” in the stowed position is 375 liters. The maximum volume of transported cargo is 1,120 liters. An episode from a week-long test drive of a Suzuki Vitara: while purchasing materials in one of the construction hypermarkets, solid 2.5-meter skirting boards and baguettes easily fit into the car, but to do this we had to fold the back of the front passenger seat.
The luggage compartment is of the correct shape and has pockets on the sides.
With the backrests folded, lengths of 2.5 m each fit.
The Japanese are no strangers to original ideas. Just look at this shelf clamp.

Step on the gas!

How does the perception of cars and their power units! If five years ago we would have laughed when we learned that a fairly massive crossover was equipped with a modest 1.4-liter engine, today this fact must be taken quite seriously. Gasoline turbo unit of the Boosterjet family with a volume of 1.4 liters, installed under the hood of the hero of our test, was officially presented last year in Geneva. With its supercharging and direct injection, it produces 140 hp. With. and 220 Nm of torque. Interestingly, all “maximum” Newton meters are available from 1500 rpm, and the maximum torque range extends to 4000 rpm. Such a wide “shelf” cannot but please. What I also immediately liked was the soundproofing engine compartment. At idle and low gas, only by looking at the tachometer can you understand that the engine is started and running.

To say that the Vitara shoots from a standstill would be an exaggeration, but the dynamics at the level of 10 seconds to “hundreds” for this class is very good indicator. But still thanks high ground clearance(we're driving an SUV!) and an overly light steering wheel, we wouldn't recommend driving it around the city and racing it with someone. But if you need to overtake someone quickly narrow road or immediately fit into the next row - Suzuki will show itself as young. Let's say a few words about consumption. In the 4x4 version, according to the passport in the urban cycle, the car consumes 7.9 liters per 100 km. Our observations while driving around the capital showed that it is quite possible to fit into 8.5-9 liters.

The suspension is simple - MacPherson strut at the front, beam at the rear. A moderately rigid chassis will save you from frequent breakdowns even with driving fast on a “primer”, but can cause some discomfort on paving stones or sloppily patched asphalt.

Settings all-wheel drive adjustable with a special wheel between the seats, which helps you select one of the preset settings packages. By default, the crossover is front-wheel drive; the rear wheel is engaged automatically when the front wheels slip. In Sport mode rear axle connects more often, and the engine tries to keep the speed higher. “Mud”, also known as “snow” mode makes the car fully all-wheel drive, and only in this mode can you use the cross-axle locking electromagnetic coupling- that is, in this way we seem to block the center differential.

Choose fast

Individualization is the argument that the creators are pressing on Suzuki versions Vitara with the letter S. After all, the buyer can choose among a dozen color combinations, two-color combinations, and finishing materials. A turbo engine will bring a lot of driving pleasure and make trips safer. So we cannot determine exactly where this crossover is closer - smart or beautiful. He's clearly chasing both hares, and he seems to be succeeding.
