What engine does the Kamaz have? Installing a MAN engine on a Kamaz Which engine is suitable for a Kamaz

  • I have documents for the Ural Truck Crane, year of manufacture - 1992. VIN number not in the documents, but I have the model and number of the installed internal combustion engine - 710.10 Number 953533. Is it possible to determine by the number modification of internal combustion engine? I need to install a new one, but I don't know which one.
    — Either 740.1000403 or 740.1000403-20 were installed on these cars. No options.
  • How much do they differ from each other and 7403. Is it possible to make another from one internal combustion engine and how many components need to be replaced?
    — Both of these engines belong to the EURO-0 class, but they only have the same lubrication system. There is a difference in the piston group, cylinder head, crankcase, fuel supply system, etc. It's easier to contact the official service center for engine overhaul.
  • I have No. 30779674. Does it have piston liners and if so, which ones are suitable?
    — Liners are not installed on Cummins B5.9-180 engines. Repairs are carried out by boring the cylinder block.
  • Tell me, is there a significant difference in the engines 740.622 and 740.70
    — In principle, no. They belong to the same series (70) and all models have one TKR.
  • I have a KAMAZ 65115-A4 with a CUMMINS ISB6 7E4 300 engine No. 86039912 installed. I would like to install a KAMAZ engine instead, which model is right for me and is it difficult?
    — Replacing engines of this brand with another is not provided for in the documentation - this will change the vehicle’s equipment. Replacement must be made only in companies that have the appropriate license to modify KAMAZ vehicles. The replacement affects almost all components of the car: electrical equipment, cooling, control units, exhaust, transmission, etc. Also, during the replacement process, additional work may be revealed.

Ask our specialist a question at the end of this page or by email.

  • Tell me who is the actual manufacturer of the CUMMINS ISB6.7E4 300 engine No. 86039970.
    — According to the documentation, the manufacturing company is ZCK — ZAO CUMMINS KAMA.
  • Is it possible to supply a EURO-3 class engine to the Urals with an installed KAMAZ internal combustion engine? If so, which model is preferable and is it necessary to change the gearbox?
    — Only EURO-0 engines are installed on Ural 4320 cars, without options.
  • Is it possible to replace engine No. 740.11-1000411-04 with No. 740.11-1000411-01 and what is the configuration of the latter?
    - No, they cannot be replaced - these are completely different engines.
  • Tell me in what configuration the engines 740.13-1000400 (21) (22) are sold.
    - They are sold in maximum configuration with everything attached. Only the Clutch, gearbox, radiator and expansion tank are supplied separately.
  • The problem is this: on LIAZ 525645 buses, manufactured in 2006, engines 740.21 and 740 were installed, replacing the previously installed 740.31. The local traffic police department refuses registration, arguing that it has changed the design of the car, and forces you to register the conversion. What should we do?
    — Fundamentally, these blocks are the same and have an identical environmental class. In your case, you need to take the official refusal of registration and send it to the Chief Designer, after which you will receive official document, which you will subsequently present to the local traffic police.
  • I don't have a turbo installed on my car. ICE costs 740.10-210. EURO-0. Can I modify the internal combustion engine by installing a turbine on it? And what you need to do?
    — In your case, it is necessary to modify your internal combustion engine to 7403 (EURO-0 class). In addition to installing turbines (7N1), you should replace piston group, injection pump, injectors, and intake and exhaust systems, including on the car itself.
  • I have a KAMAZ 43118 with an installed internal combustion engine 740.30-260. The engine needs to be replaced, what model can you recommend? It is advisable to minimize various possible modifications.
    — The closest one is 740.30-100402. Replacement with engines of larger or less power, as well as other environmental friendliness classes are not permitted by the design documentation. In addition, you will have to change the gearbox at the same time. Select the configuration of the proposed engine that matches your vehicle - this is the simplest option.
  • I want to put a Kammens engine on mine instead of the one on it. Is it possible?
    - Definitely not. Firstly, it is strictly forbidden to lower the environmental class, and secondly, a large number of modifications are required, including replacing the gearbox, clutch, pedals, etc. Installed in this moment Your engine is also relatively good, provided proper operating conditions are observed.
  • I want to replace the internal combustion engine along with the transmission. No. 740.13.260 to 740.30.260 on KAMAZ 53228. Will it be possible not to use large-scale re-equipment? If not, what needs to be changed?
    — They even have similarities in appearance, but on 740.30 there are pipes for the ONV. That is, installation is required additional radiator. In addition, it is necessary:
    1. Raise the cab.
    2. Change the gearbox drive.
    3. The presence of strictly imported clutch.
    4. Floor model only 53205, otherwise it will not fit.
    5. It is prohibited to install gearbox 142 - either 154 or ZF.
    Plus, during the revision process, various additional work may become apparent.

Engines for KamAZ

Today, there are many modifications of engines for installation on trucks.

The type of engine that can be installed on a truck, for example, a long-length Kamaz, may depend on several factors:

  • modifications of the machine itself;
  • the type of work the vehicle will perform.

Modern Kamaz trucks are equipped with several engine models:

  • 740.11-240 – engine with a power of 240 hp, and torque can reach 766 Nm;
  • 740.13-260 – the power of such an engine reaches 260 hp and torque 834 Nm;
  • 740.31-240 – engine power 240 hp, torque – 980 Nm (this type of engine belongs to Euro 2);
  • 740.30-260 (Euro 2) – develops power of 260 hp and torque reaches 1078 Nm.

Engines of this type can be installed on buses and trucks.

Engines of the 740 modification have advantages over other types of engines of this type:

  • lighter weight compared to other models;
  • small overall dimensions.

The two rows of cylinders in the engine are located at an angle of 90 degrees. This design made it possible to reduce the dimensions of the mechanism.

A fan drive fluid coupling is attached coaxially to the front of the cylinder block, and an oil purification filter and filters are attached to the right fine cleaning oils The cooling system is designed very well, and this allows the engine to be used under very high loads.

Design of this engine is not inferior to world analogues of engines of this type and power. They are very robust and durable, so they can also be installed on other types of cars.

The closed cooling system simplifies engine maintenance during operation.

To ensure engine starting at any temperature, the designers installed a powerful crank starter and batteries with increased capacity, and also installed a starting heater and used low-viscosity in the engine engine oil. Therefore, these types of engines can be used both in cold weather and in high heat.

All these design solutions make the motor universal and very reliable in operation, as well as easy to use. maintenance and repairs.

Film “Engineering secrets of KAMAZ-master”:

KamAZ is a Soviet-Russian automobile manufacturing company founded in 1976. Initially, it specialized in the production of trucks with a carrying capacity of 8 to 20 tons. The first truck to roll off the assembly line was the KamAZ 5320. The KamAZ engine was also developed from scratch specifically for this truck. The best foreign representatives were taken as its basis.

This is interesting!
The correct spelling is not KAMAZ, but namely KamAZ, which stands for Kamsky (Kam) Automobile Plant (AZ). Since the KamAZ 740 engine has become the main one for this model, the focus of the article will be on this particular brand of engine.

Note!

There were many options for the KamAZ 740 engine. They differ primarily in Euro standards.

The name of such engines is approximately this: “KAMAZ 740-210 (260) engine.” It’s not particularly easy to remember numbers, so people often hear such names as “KAMAZ Euro 2 (3.4) engine.”

Since there can be several KamAZ engines of the same European standard, in the tables with technical characteristics The factory name will be indicated.

General characteristics of the KamAZ 740 engine series

The first engine of this family is considered to be a simple KamAZ 740 V8 engine.

This is interesting!

In the engine designations in the future, you may come across various designations for engine types. So, the English letter V means V-shaped engine. This means that the cylinders are arranged in two rows and the angle between the rows is less than 90 degrees.

In an L-shaped engine, the cylinders are also arranged in 2 rows, but at an angle of approximately 90 degrees. The English letter R in the name indicates that the engine is in-line. That is, the cylinders are located next to each other. Powerful eight-cylinder engines often have a V-shaped structure, while conventional engines passenger car– R-shaped.

Initially, the KamAZ 740 engine had a capacity of 10,852 cm3, with a power of 210 Horse power. Only then did later modifications come out, which had a power range from 180 to 360 horsepower.

It was far from new for trucks to use diesel fuel(popular - solarium) in the engine. This is fully justified by lower fuel consumption, improved lubrication and increased power, however, for a novice driver, familiarity with engines of this type will be new.

  • Firstly, there is a significantly increased compression ratio. So, on a VAZ 2107 car the compression ratio is 8 units, and on this diesel engine as much as 17!
  • This is also the absence of spark plugs, which is also at least unusual. Blend in diesel engines ignites from high pressure. Let's remember school physics. There are 3 interrelated parameters. Temperature, pressure and volume. Thus, with a decrease in volume, a sharp increase in pressure and temperature occurs. Based on this law, a diesel engine operates.

Engine KamAZ 740

What advantages does it have over similar engines of other brands, both domestic and foreign:

  • The design of the KamAZ engine makes it smaller than many domestic analogues and more reliable than foreign ones. It's kind of " golden mean"between large, gluttonous, low-power and reliable motors Soviet/Russian-made and powerful, economical (in terms of a liter of fuel per horsepower), but not so reliable and durable.
  • Another advantage of the engine is that it is quite easy to start in the cold season, since these KamAZ engines are equipped with a very powerful battery and starter, which are complemented by a cold engine warm-up system.

  • CUMMINS (KAMENS) KAMAZ ENGINE

Kamens engines are foreign engines installed on KamAZ trucks of our production. In terms of power characteristics, they are equal to the Russian 740, not inferior to the latter either in reliability or power.

Operating principle of the KamAZ 740 engine

This section will also be collective, since all engines of the 740 family have approximately the same operating principle:

  • The main part of the engine is the cylinder block, which is made as a single monoblock and is a collective part on which all the main engine parts are attached.
  • The crankshaft is located in the center, but with a significant shift downward. Below it is the crankcase, where the oil is located during idle times. 26-28 l. This is exactly the volume of the crankcase. We will look at the oil change process below.
  • The number of valves per cylinder is two. One inlet and one outlet. Otherwise the same as other diesel engines.

Maintenance of engines of the KamAZ 740 family

The KamAZ 740 engine is diesel and therefore it is very difficult to repair it at home, but some small things can be done. Such things include changing the coolant and oil.

Coolant replacement

Coolant must be replaced every 3-5 years depending on operating conditions. The need to replace the coolant is indicated primarily by the fact that the coolant itself has lost its original color and has become the color of dirty water.

Coolant type Tosol-A40 is poured into the KamAZ 740 engine total volume 25 liters.

You need to constantly monitor the coolant level. It is advisable to check this level every time you start the engine. This is done quite simply:

  1. You just need to open a special tap on the expansion tank. If antifreeze begins to flow, then the level is normal. Close the tap and start the engine. If nothing flows from the tap, then you need to add coolant, and if nothing happens when adding, you need to check first the tap itself, and then the entire cooling system, coolant leaks are possible.
  2. If there is a shortage of coolant, do not start the engine under any circumstances. Otherwise, not just antifreeze, but antifreeze with water will circulate in it. This can lead to destruction of the impeller and expensive repairs generally.
  3. If the fluid has leaked, but its condition leaves much to be desired, then it must be replaced. To do this, drain the liquid from bottom tap radiator, boiler and heater pump unit, cabin heater supply pipe.
  4. After this, close all taps and fill the system with coolant.

Change of oil

Oil, like coolant, requires periodic replacement. The oil level is checked, as on all engines, with a special dipstick. The lubricant level should be near the “B” mark.

Excess, just like less oil, is not advisable. If there is too little oil in the engine, then the wear of all engine parts will sharply increase, since they will run almost “dry”. It is better not to start an engine that does not have enough oil to avoid serious damage. It's best to find and add oil.

If this cannot be done, then reduce the load on it as much as possible. Remove excess cargo and unhitch the trailer. If this is also not possible, then it is better to wait for help. Driving a loaded car with this level of oil can lead to very serious consequences.

If the oil still needs to be changed:

  • Warm up the engine to a temperature of 80-90 degrees Celsius;
  • We turn off the engine;
  • We unscrew the plug on the crankcase (photo below);
  • We wait until the oil is completely poured out;
  • We change filter elements;
  • Wash the rotor of the centrifugal oil filter;
  • Fill the oil through a special filler neck to the “B” mark on the dipstick;
  • We start the engine and let it run for Idling 5-10 min;
  • Turn off the engine, and after 5-10 minutes add oil to the “B” mark on the dipstick;
  • After this, the oil change process can be considered complete.

Malfunctions

If the engine does not start, see the table below:

Tuning

As stated above, this motor– diesel. Therefore, even regular maintenance must be carried out in special services.

Boosting the engine at home is out of the question. Thus, an increase in displacement can affect the compression ratio, which, in turn, will make further operation of the engine impossible.

A little history and let’s remember how it all began and which KAMAZ engines are the most relevant today.

Over the entire period of its existence, the KAMAZ truck was equipped with three power units: native eight 740 series, American and German Daimler. The foreign engines are regular sixes lined up in a row, just like the much-anticipated new R6. Six-cylinder engines are most in demand in manufacturing truck transport. And more recently, the 740 was considered one of the best! Let's remember.

Exactly 50 years ago, ZIL began creating new trucks ZIL-170 with two rear drive axles (6x4). The first-born was assembled in 1969 and its mass assembly was entrusted to a new automobile plant on the Kama River in Tatarstan. At that time, the future auto giant was in the final stages of construction.

New KAMAZ R6 engine preparation for production

The first KAMAZ-5320 rolled off the conveyor belt back in 1967. By the way, this is the same 170th ZIL. Freight car equipped with Yaroslavl YaMZ motor 740 with a volume of 11 and a half liters and a power of 180/210 horses. The first KAMAZ diesel engines began to be produced in 1975, which marked the beginning of the birth of the 740 series. So what's good about this unit?

- this is the first diesel engine Soviet times, in which they began to pour antifreeze, and not plain water. To regulate the temperature, a thermostat was installed on the engine, and the radiator cooling blades began to rotate using a hydraulic drive. Technological innovations at that time were considered: a closed oil purification system with a centrifuge, a crankshaft made of nitrided steel, and even valve guides made on the basis of cermets.

Of course, throughout its existence, the engine has been modernized more than once. But it’s impossible to redo everything and it’s better to create something new. In addition, constantly boosting the engine became an expensive undertaking, and therefore of little use. And even strict Euro-5 standards, which absolutely did not suit the 740 diesel engine with 8 cylinders. must meet all standards. In general, the time has come to create a completely new engine for the KAMAZ fraternity.

But why? After all, there are a lot of high-quality sixes in the world. And coming up with something completely new is very expensive and time-consuming. Therefore, KAMAZ plant specialists decided to find a basis for a new diesel engine from other automakers freight transport, with which the auto giant has long-established partnerships.

Why the KAMAZ P6 engine and what does Liebherr have to do with it?

A little earlier, I already said that the newly made KAMAZ engine must meet all the requirements of EURO-5, and taking into account long-term operation, also EURO-6. But V-engine With 8 cylinders it is not easy to comply with these standards. After all, to fulfill all the conditions, you need to install a turbo compound. An interesting name for a device unknown to many. So what is it?

In a conventional diesel engine, 30-40% of the heat is wasted along with the exhaust gases. But this is additional energy and it needs to be made to work somehow. But how? Scania is the first company to tackle this problem. In 1961, it was the first in the world to install a turbocharger on one of its engines. Most drivers are familiar with this device and the principle of its operation: this is when traffic fumes help more air enter the combustion chamber. Engine efficiency increased by an order of magnitude, but this was not enough. And then they invented the turbo compound.

Here the operating principle is somewhat different. The main goal: to transfer directly to the energy of the exhaust gases through a fluid coupling using a reduction gear. That is, the released gases, before escaping into the atmosphere, unwind the fluid coupling. And she, in turn, with the help of the increased speed of the gearbox, makes the flywheel, screwed on, rotate. Everything seems simple, but only in words. But in reality: much more serious and complex. But more on that another time. In general, one good thing is that this turbo compound is quite effective and necessary thing. In addition to increasing efficiency, all requirements not only of the current EURO-5, but also of the future EURO-6 are met.

Auto giants such as Scania and VOLVO, which have been installing turbo compounds on the engines of their cars for a long time, have proven to other truck manufacturers the need to install a new device. But there's one problem: the V8 exhaust system It’s quite a complicated thing, and installing a turbocompound block is quite a difficult and useless task. technical point vision. In addition, it is very expensive and voluminous. But the in-line engine is the most suitable option, there are no problems with installing this miracle invention, and the cost is much simpler (installation is not required on the P6 balancer shafts, reducing the efficiency of the motor). So all the arguments are right in-line engine. And two words about German manufacturer Liebherr trucks.

Liebherr is a long-time partner of KAMAZ. Also in Soviet times, back in 1973, German specialists helped set up a separate production line for production and assembly. Cooperation with Liebherr continues to this day. In addition, it is quite profitable and promising. Moreover, the current KAMAZ is equipped with gas-diesel engines with a capacity of 900 hp. With.

Let's remember! What is under the cockpit of the Dakar 4326? Correct: Liebherr. So, an excellent reputation and low demands helped the management of the KAMAZ plant solve the problem with the choice. The D946 from Liebherr was taken as the basis for service. A copy is not a copy, but the new P6 is joint development both automakers. So what will the engine of the future from Naberezhnye Chelny be like?

Design of new KAMAZ engines

And now, the most interesting thing: design innovations and key points in assembling a new engine in modern history KAMAZ. But first, let’s note that the future P6 also has two completely different engines.

The first thing you need to know is that this is a diesel engine, in which the combustible mixture ignites during compression. The new engine has a compression ratio of 18. Fuel is injected directly into the piston, since the combustion chamber is now located in it. Taking this characteristic into account, the piston diameter increased to 130 mm; pistons with a diameter of 120 mm were installed on the 740th. The piston stroke on the new KAMAZ engine has also increased: from the classic 130 mm to the new 150 mm. Motors with such a piston distance are called “long-stroke”. It should be noted here that reducing the number of cylinders did not affect the reduction in working volume, since the piston itself increased in diameter.

The cooling system remained at the same level: liquid, with a volume of 20 liters, with forced circulation. There are no innovations in the pressurization system - it is still the same gas turbine, in which single-stage pressurization of the air environment and air-to-air cooling are carried out. The KAMAZ engine lubrication mechanism is complex with an air-oil radiator, a dual filter and a gear oil supply pump.

It should be noted that components such as fuel injection pump, ECU and injectors are completely manufactured at Liebherr factories.

That's why, fuel system, today, remains 25% dependent on foreign suppliers, since to the already mentioned elements it is necessary to add a turbocharger assembled from the Germans. The remaining items are manufactured either in the production shops of the KAMAZ automobile enterprise, or purchased to order from domestic manufacturers.

Trial attempts to cast the cylinder block have already been carried out in the engine manufacturing workshop. Now both the “snail” for the coolant and the mounting flanges for oil cooler with an air compressor. There are also mounting points for fuel injection pumps. Also, they were equipped with additional stiffening ribs. For what? Let's clarify.

Since the original Liebherr D946 is a heavy unit (mainly used in construction equipment and stationary generators), then P6 should have less weight. Consequently, lighter, but brittle, alloys are used in low tide. And the rigidity must meet all the requirements necessary for operation.

KAMAZ inline engine power

The new KAMAZ engine will become 1.5 times more powerful than classics. Yes, the 740 engine has the ability to boost, but then you will have to use expensive technologies, and this, in turn, will affect the final cost.

The P6 will be equipped with a custom KAMAZ engine block head, which will greatly simplify repairs.

The KAMAZ crankshaft will also undergo a slight modernization. The crankshaft journals, connecting rods and main ones, will undergo mandatory high-frequency processing. Upper piston and oil scraper rings will be chrome plated with applied diamond chips, while the lower piston ring will remain completely without any coverage.

The device will change completely oil pump. Now oil will be supplied to the main components of the KAMAZ engine and its parts much faster.

Assembly speed of KAMAZ engines

For future build P6 a new friction roller conveyor is being installed at KAMAZ. The block's transport route will pass through 34 stopping points, which will include: manual assembly, semi-automatic and automatic modes assemblies. We will analyze what, where and how separately.

The automation will take over the functions of controlling the crankshaft turning forces, as well as the action of applying sealed materials to the joints of the body elements. She will also perform quality control of the combined parts.

Semi-automatic devices will monitor air leakage through the valves of the injection system and exhaust system. They will also check for leaks all systems involved in the operation of the engine that are necessary for normal operation.

The rest will be assembled by hand. At the same time, it is planned to use electric/pneumatic tools for threaded connections. This work will be carried out in several stages and in strict sequence, where the rotation angle and tightening torque will be monitored.

The final stage of production is testing the KAMAZ engine on a stand. A new stand is being prepared for testing the motor, on which full wiring will not be carried out. Oil filling and final assembly will take place outside the bench, which will significantly save testing time. Before testing and getting to the stand, the and will be connected. At the stand, all that will remain is programming the ECU with further testing and running-in of the KAMAZ engine with diagnosing all systems involved in operation. And also, fuel consumption calculations, measurement operating temperature and pressure in the lubrication system, determination of nominal and maximum values of crankshaft rotation.

Quality control will be carried out by the QDM management system. It can collect all available data about the newly-made KAMAZ engine. This is the release date from serial number, and the tightening torque of threaded connections with the procedure. All information obtained in this way will be stored in an electronic database and archived in a special assembly card in in electronic format, which will subsequently be stored in the computer archive of the enterprise. So, the history of the assembly of the KAMAZ R6 engine can be read at any time.

The conveyor will operate at a speed of 4 m per minute, which will allow the production of 12,000 KAMAZ engines in the first working year. It will take a little over 14 minutes to assemble one P6. In the future it is planned serial production 30,000 copies, despite the fact that the production time of one motor will be reduced to 5 minutes.

The start of mass assembly of the P6 is scheduled for 2019, although work on the new KAMAZ engine is already nearing completion. At the same time, work is underway to update the cabin, since the P6 cannot be installed on classic forms. More likely appearance The updated KAMAZ will be very different from its previous appearance. In the meantime, we can only wait and continue driving time-tested old cars.
