Weaknesses of fiat. Should I buy a used Fiat Brava or not? The main disadvantages of the Fiat Albea

The Fiat Stilo golf-class hatchback, which was born in 2001, was called upon to save the long-suffering Italian company from the crisis in which it found itself in the late nineties of the last century. But sales of Stilo did not take off. Although it has spread throughout the countries Western Europe quite a large circulation, but the Italians clearly expected more. But for those who are looking for an inexpensive used car, the Fiat Stilo is definitely worth taking a closer look at. All other things being equal, the Italian hatchback costs less than its main competitors. But what about reliability? Let's figure it out.

The Fiat Stilo has no problems with corrosion resistance. If the car has not been in an accident, then you are unlikely to be able to detect rust spots. Although this does not mean at all that they will not exist in the future. Whatever one may say, in terms of protecting the body from corrosion, cars from Italy have never been ahead of the rest. The same can be said about the build quality of the interior. The finishing materials in the Fiat Stilo may be of quite high quality, but on most cars the interior plastic begins to creak a little over time. So, most of the competitors of the Italian car are not without this drawback.

But in terms of the number of electrical problems, the Fiat Stilo is significantly ahead of most of its classmates. And it’s not to say that these problems arise due to the unreliability of certain nodes. Most of them occur due to problems with electrical connectors. Because of this, for example, the indicator may suddenly light up, indicating a malfunction of the airbags. So before buying a Fiat Stilo, check the operation of all electronics, and there are quite a lot of them on the “Italian”, with special passion.

Quite a lot of gasoline engines were offered for the Fiat Stilo, but in our market, most often, only the most popular power units are presented. There aren't too many problems with them, but weak points they are not deprived after all. Main disadvantage gasoline unit with a volume of 1.8 liters - the valve timing controller fails too quickly. The 1.6 liter petrol engine has different problems. Most owners have to change it high voltage wires and ignition coils. Also, after purchase, be sure to check the serviceability of the cooling system sensor. Often it is because of this that the cooling system fan malfunctions. Well, we can call it the most reliable and unpretentious Gas engine volume 1.4 liters. But you can’t count on dynamic movement with such a modest power unit.

Quite often you can find diesel engines under the hood of the Stilo. They are quite reliable. Every 70 thousand kilometers they will have to change the belt in the gas distribution mechanism. Also, if you buy a car with very high mileage, be prepared to replace the injectors, thermostat and turbocharger.

Installed on most Fiat Stilo manual transmission gear shift. And she is the one optimal choice For of this car. There are usually no problems with it. But it’s better to immediately abandon the famous “robot” Selespeed, which was installed on the Fiat Stilo with a 2.4-liter gasoline engine. You will not get much pleasure from driving a car with such a gearbox, and its repair is very expensive.

The suspension of an Italian car is not anything complicated, so it won’t be necessary to repair it very often. Most often you will have to change silent blocks and stabilizer struts. Well, when high mileage be prepared to shell out for a set of new shock absorbers.

The steering of the Fiat Stilo is quite reliable. It shouldn’t upset us about any global breakdowns that will require huge cash injections to fix. Brake system Italian car unpleasant surprises I shouldn’t present it either. Most owners remember it only when it’s time to change brake pads and disks.

So the Fiat Stilo isn't that scary. Naturally, the Italian car is very far from the leading position in the reliability rating, but there are no clear weak points in its design either. Rather, Stilo will not bother you with major breakdowns, but with small “sores”, the elimination of which will take time, but not big money. If this doesn't scare you, then the Fiat Stilo is for you. For little money you will get, although not the most reliable, a well-equipped and still stylish European car.

I bought it a year and a half ago Fiat Albea in August 2008 and I’ll say frankly, I did it in vain. It's hard and creaky to turn on reverse gear. The engine runs unstably idle speed, the arrow remains stable at around 1000.

Problem with the air conditioner. Condensation seeps into the interior. The technical center says that this case not covered by warranty. I will repair it myself, and that costs money.

Lyubomir, Odintsovo, Moscow region.

“The car is six months old. Under warranty, they changed some kind of seal in the engine, otherwise the oil was leaking. Replaced the phase sensor. I fixed the antifreeze leak myself (the clamps turned out to be weak). Crickets periodically wake up in the cabin (I cover them with foam seals)

Alexander, Ekaterinurg

“Fiat Albea is a good car. But he has poor sound insulation, creaks regularly appear in the front panel. Upholstery materials are ridiculously cheap. I’ve already been to the locksmiths five times in less than a year.”

Denis, Bronnitsy, Moscow region.

“I bought Albea only in the summer. And delighted with her. True, the driver's seat is not very comfortable and the door panels creak. And so, everything is fine.”

Edward, Mr. Nizhny Novgorod.

« Fiat Albea eats oil. 1 liter per 10,000 km. In total, I drove almost 90,000 km. And somehow the car warranty repairs It stood for three weeks (the 5th gear was falling out). We were waiting for spare parts."

Yuri, St. Petersburg.

“I'll tell you straight. The Fiat Albea is a crap car. Weak engine, lousy plastic, creaks like an old hag. At a speed of more than 110 km/h, Fiat Albea begins to shake like someone with a seizure. I suffered for a year and a half, sold it and sighed calmly. Yes, for some reason it was impossible to buy books on repairing Fiat Albea anywhere.”

“I’ve been driving a Fiat Albea for almost a year. In principle, everything suits me. So, different crickets on the front panel. Yes, the door trim gets dirty. You have to clean it regularly. I replaced burnt out light bulbs three times. Under warranty, the failure of the air flow direction regulator was corrected.

“The Fiat Albea has a noisy suspension. Combined with the cracking of the front panel at a speed of 120 km/h, driving long distances becomes unbearable. Fuel consumption also differs greatly from that stated in service book and is 11 liters in the city.”

Sergey, Rostov-on-Don

"Fiat Albea is very economical car. In the city, consumption is 7.5 liters. And along the highway, when we went to my mother-in-law in Odessa last summer, average speed 90 km/h managed to achieve a fuel consumption of 4 liters per 100 km. Just don’t think that you weren’t in a hurry to see your mother-in-law. It was just interesting how non-gluttonous “Alechka” is.

I changed the front left struts and eliminated crickets in the cabin. When cornering, sometimes it feels like the car is being carried away. But this is probably my personal troubles.”

Milen, Shchelkovo. I've been driving a Fiat Albea for 3 years now. The hardworking donkey has already run 91,000 km. The car is simply excellent. There are almost no sores, despite the considerable mileage. Now I remember with horror how I suffered with VAZ classics. Out of warranty after 30,000 km. The official service is too expensive and of poor quality. Spare parts are already quite expensive, but at dealers they were simply golden. It’s good that a book on repair, operation and maintenance has been published. I bought it from an online store and am extremely pleased.”

Italians are not very popular in Russia. By the way, like many others german cars. We don’t like “Italians”, even despite the titles and titles they have received. For example, Alfa Romeo 147 (“Car of the Year 2001”) or Alfa Romeo 156 (“Car of the Year 1998”) sell very poorly in Russia. A similar fate befell the Fiat Bravo/Brava - “Car of the Year 1996”. But recently the demand for them has begun to grow...

Fiat Bravo/Brava was presented to the general public in the fall of 1995 and received very good mark not only among buyers, but also in the press (remember that it is journalists from the largest European buildings who determine the winner of the “Car of the Year” competition). This car was born at a time when the “bio” design style, with its sleek shapes and flowing lines, reached its maximum. Therefore, there is nothing to be surprised that this same “bio” can be traced throughout the interior and exterior of the car. In addition, the car had a double name. Three-door hatchback was called Bravo, and the five-door was called Brava. “Fiat” explained this not only by the fact that “we came up with such a great idea,” but also by the different ideological orientation of the cars. Three door car According to the idea of Italian engineers, it was supposed to become more sporty, so they decided to give it a “masculine” name (in Italian, masculine nouns end in “o”, and feminine ones end in “a”), and the five-door car - a feminine one.

It should be said right away that the Marea model can be safely included in the Bravo/Brava family. Despite its original name and increased dimensions, this car is practically no different from hatchbacks, except for the body. By the way, Marea is still in production and will be in production for at least another year or two, despite the fact that Bravo/Brava has already been discontinued. And it should also be noted that Marea is on this moment the most big car across the entire Fiat model range. The Fiat Marea is available in both sedan and station wagon body styles (the latter is called Weekend). In the "barn" backseat unfolds as expected, but in the sedan in the cheap ELX configuration, only the hatch in the back reclines. In the more expensive version of the HLX, the rear seatback can be folded completely. But still, it is better to load large things into a station wagon, which has its own signature “trick” specifically for this purpose - a reclining rear bumper. It makes it possible to reduce the loading height by several centimeters, and if desired, you can transport long items without folding them back row seats. The trunk volume of different versions of the car is as follows: hatchbacks have 360 liters each. in “standard” and 1165 hp. when folded rear seats, for the sedan - 430 liters, for the station wagon 550 liters and 1550 liters in the disassembled version of the cabin. By the way, a fifth model based on Bravo/Brava is also being produced in Italy - cargo van The Fiat Marea Marengo is a copy of the station wagon and is available in both glazed and all-metal versions. However, such cars are quite rare.

If we talk about the design of cars of this entire family, we can say that it is quite interesting even now, although more than 7 years have passed since the Bravo/Brava entered the market. As before, many, especially women, are attracted by the “eye” cut of the headlights and the original taillights. In general, the biodesign style has not yet lost its relevance...

Rounded lines continue to reign in the Bravo/Brava/Marea interior. The seats are moderately hard, have good lateral support, but are a little short. You can get comfortable behind the wheel without any problems, but you will have to work hard during the adjustment process itself - to change the position of the seat you need to make some effort. In winter, the driver and front passenger will certainly be pleased with the heated seats, but it is only available in rich trim levels. On the “budget” S and SX trim levels, the seat upholstery fabric causes criticism - it is a bit harsh and not very pleasant to the touch. In addition, on cars of the first years of production (the exception is sports version HGT) the lower part of the backrest of the front seats is not comfortable, which caused dissatisfaction among buyers, and the design of the seats was changed. One can also say about the front seats that over the years there may be a play in the “sled”, and the Fiat people have not corrected this defect.

Instrument scales, which are made in the form of arcs running over each other, are large and easy to read. Despite the fact that the interior is made in the style of biodesign, there is no smell of excessive slickness or soapiness here. All controls are located in their places. But still, the main attention is attracted by the unusual radio tape recorder, which is an organic part of the entire interior. Cheap versions do not have this radio, and the interior of the car already looks somehow wrong... The microclimate control is excellent, but the air temperature control knob rotates with a strong cracking sound - you even get the feeling that something is broken. But actually everything is fine. Equipment Italian cars, then it is not the most luxurious, but, as they say, within the normal range. IN basic equipment includes electric windows (unfortunately, only the front ones), heated electric mirrors, central locking, airbag for the driver, power steering, etc. By the way, if the car is equipped with the Fiat-Code system, then this is not bad at all. This system is capable of changing the lock code every time the key is inserted, due to which the chances of the car being stolen are sharply reduced. For example, in Italy, every owner of a car with Fiat-Code immediately received a 12% discount on insurance.

Among the problems with the interior that arise in a car over time, one can note a spontaneously unadjustable clutch pedal and play in the gas pedal. The plastic trim of the interior, in principle, meets international standards, however, it was not possible to do without assembly flaws. For example, on German cars it is unlikely that the cover glove box would vibrate when closed. And here, please. Of course, on almost new cars everything is fine, however, on cars that have several years of driving behind them, this can happen. Also, many picky buyers may not like extraneous sounds, filling the interior of a used Fiat. The noise comes not only from the glove compartment lid, but also from the plastic rear shelf, from the suspension, engine, etc.

Despite all the skepticism towards Italian cars that exists in Russia, Fiat body Bravo/Brava/Marea is different high quality. Despite the one-sided galvanization, the metal resists corrosion very well, and if the car was originally sold in Russia, then you can rest assured about the body - all “Russian” cars have an additional anti-corrosion treatment bodies and installed lockers. But all this does not mean that the body does not need to be carefully inspected (after all, it’s a Fiat, this is not an aluminum Audi A8). And, naturally, much attention needs to be paid to the thresholds. Over several years of operation in Russia, paint with hazardous areas It might just come off. It is recommended to inspect the front part of the car, where pebbles and sand flying from neighboring cars can leave their marks.

According to employees of Fiat service centers, side moldings sometimes come off on cars aged 5-7 years. In addition, on cars of the first years of production there was a problem with decorative caps wheels that could simply fly off while driving. In this regard, in 1997, cars were even recalled for free repair. You can also note poorly secured door seals (found on cars produced in 1996) and leaking trunks on heavily used hatchbacks (this occurs due to chafing of the rear door seal).

The Fiat Bravo/Brava was equipped with five petrol engines (power from 80 to 154 hp) and four diesel engines(power from 65 to 105 hp). On Marea the most weak engines was not there, but a 2.4-liter gasoline engine with 160 hp appeared. and a 2.0-liter turbo engine (182 hp). Diesel Fiat Bravo/Brava/Marea were not officially sold in Russia at all, and they are practically not imported from abroad. However, specialists in the repair of Italian “engines” speak quite well of diesel engines Fiat, but it is impossible to draw any conclusions about the operation of such power units in Russia - there are too few of them in our country. The weakest gasoline engine for Bravo/Brava it is a 1.4 liter (80 hp) unit with three valves per cylinder. Cars with such an engine are not often found, but this is for the best - the 1.4-liter engine, according to experts, is the most unsuccessful among the entire range of power units. It is distinguished not only by a smaller resource, but also expensive spare parts. Due to all these factors, the 1.4-liter engine was later discontinued.

Among all engines, many call the 1.6-liter engine with 16 valves and 103 hp the most optimal. His “horses” are quite enough for calm ride in the city and on the highway (maximum speed 184 km/h, acceleration 0-100 km/h in 11 seconds). In addition, this unit is quite reliable and easy to maintain. The 1.8-liter engine (113 hp) is also not bad. It is also reliable and, compared to the 1.6-liter engine, has greater elasticity and torque (“maximum speed” is already 193 km/h). Well, lovers sport riding can look for the three-door Bravo in the HGT version with a 2.0-liter 20-valve engine producing 147 hp. (it will take a long time to search, since Bravo HGT is in Russia very rare). Maximum speed similar car is 210 km/h.

The following can be said about the peculiarities of engine operation in Russia. Despite Fiat's advice to change the timing belt every 100 thousand km in Russian conditions It is recommended to do this once every 60 thousand km. If the belt is neglected, then if it breaks, the valves will have to be changed... In addition to the belt, the rollers also wear out every 50-60 thousand km, which are not cheap at all - $110. Ignition problems are possible in 1.6-liter engines, although at one time there was even a recall on this issue. In addition, in this and in the 1.4-liter engine, oil leakage through the camshaft oil seal is possible due to a rupture of the oil seal shoulder. This problem can appear on cars manufactured before 1997, after which this deficiency was eliminated by changing the diameter of the oil seal. If the car does not have catalytic converter gases (officially such machines were supplied to Russia), then this is for the best, since it is characterized by insufficient thermal insulation. By the way, one of the adaptations under Russian market it was possible to use not 95, but 92 gasoline. This led to a slight deterioration in dynamics and an increase in fuel consumption by about 1 liter. So you won’t be able to save much on cheaper gasoline.

The transmission on the Fiat Bravo/Brava/Marea is considered quite reliable, however, it is recommended to change the oil in the box every 100-150 thousand km, even though the factory assures of its lifetime service life. Found on Italian cars and “automatic” - it also does not cause problems during operation.

The Fiat Bravo/Brava/Marea suspension is, of course, superior in reliability domestic cars, but inferior German competitors. On smooth roads, driving a car is comfortable, but as soon as irregularities appear (and everyone knows that in Russia the roads are one big unevenness), the suspension immediately transfers more or less serious impacts to the body, and the interior is filled with extraneous nasty noise. If Fiat came to Russia directly from Europe, then sooner or later the driver will face the problem of low ground clearance and a low-hanging bumper. Cars that have undergone special adaptation for Russia have an increased ground clearance, which allows drivers to be less afraid of our potholes. Short-travel suspensions, which perform well on European autobahns, fail quite quickly on our roads, however, we cannot say that the car is “crumbled.” For example, front shock absorber struts serve for 70 thousand km with careful operation of the car. Levers with silent blocks and ball joints. By the way, big drawback Fiat in Russia can be called that the lever with silent blocks is made as a single unit, and it needs to be changed as an assembly. The stabilizer also “lives” for approximately 40 thousand km lateral stability. A little more resource at the steering tips (approximately 50 thousand km).

The front brakes on all cars are disc (the pads last 20-30 thousand km), but the rear brakes can be either drum (enough for 70 thousand km) or disc (installed on versions with 1.8- and 2.0 -liter engines). That is, if you carefully look at the data on the “survivability” of suspension parts and other elements that require periodic replacement, it will become clear that at the turn of 50-70 thousand km quite large investments in the car will be required.

The Fiat Bravo/Brava/Marea twins have quite good value price/quality, and the design of the cars is very interesting. It’s not for nothing that this car received the title “Car of the Year” in 1996... But all these positive traits appear only on good roads Europe. In Russia, the suspension, which is capable of giving the driver a lot of positive emotions when taking fast turns, does not behave in the best possible way. But on the other hand, relatively low prices spare parts can soften this fly in the ointment.

In one of the Fiat car service centers we examined five-door hatchback Brava with a 1.6-liter engine, which was purchased in Russia in 1999 from official dealer. Despite the fact that the car has been driving daily and year-round for three years now, Russian roads, paintwork is in excellent condition. Even the sills are untouched by rust. I think this is due to the front mudguards installed at the front. Research power unit showed that it is in excellent condition (in three years the car has covered almost 70,000 km). But the timing belt has never been changed, and the service technicians insisted that a new one be installed immediately. However, the matter was not limited to just the belt - the rollers also had to be changed. In total, these works cost $225 including spare parts. In addition, experts recommended replacing shock absorbers, front control arms and steering ends. All these parts can still work, however, their wear is close to critical. Otherwise, the Fiat Brava is in excellent condition.

Year of issue: 2008

Well, we can draw some conclusions.

Soon it will be a year and 6 months that I have been on it, and not under it.

However, the devil is in the details. And the details are:

After driving around the city (I found and lost a job in my car), and along the highway, I came to a simple conclusion. The machine, in a sense, was created for a person, but not ours, but a Western one. In other words: if you drive more quietly, you will go further and I’ll explain why.

Yes, this car can go fast, but it was not originally designed for racing. It was created for smooth and comfortable movement from point A to point B. I read last year that in the decaying West, such cars are bought by young families (kids, strollers and other related junk).

The most optimal speed mode on the highway, in terms of fuel consumption, keep the speed within 2800 - 2900 rpm. Yes, the speed, of course, will not be the permitted 90 km/h, but less (80 km/h), but a slight deviation.

I was planning to go by car to the bourgeoisie in the fall. Finland in a nutshell. I ran around on the websites and saw that their speed on the highway is 80 km/h (and in the city generally 50 km/h) and no, no, otherwise the fine will be such that you won’t have time to shout to your mother. True, I never went to the bourgeoisie. I put everything off until later, but then came the crisis.

Comparing the above, I see that the car is running, but within their bourgeois speed limits. I drive around the city (St. Petersburg) in 4th gear, at 2000-2200 rpm, and it turns out to be just 50-55 km/h. At the same time, the instantaneous fuel consumption is very nice, and the average, taking into account traffic jams per day, is 8.4 - 8.5 l/100 km.

Taking into account the throttle response and torque of the engine, in essence you can start from second gear, and even more so when coasting in a traffic jam. What surprised (pleasantly) in the city you can drive in 5th gear, the engine calmly takes this gear from 55-60 km/h, and there are no jerks or strains, but it’s better to shift from 55 km/h, then the transition is smooth. With greater speed, a small but jerk.

In 4th gear you can drive in the range of 35-70 km/h, but it is more comfortable for 50 km in the city in 4th gear and 85 km on the highway in 5th. Moreover, I’ll especially note: first of all, I haven’t driven more than 80, now if I’m not in a hurry, that is. I’m driving alone, then I keep it at 75-80-85 km/h, and the consumption on the computer (I move my hands - virtually) as per the instructions, i.e. 6.3 l. (in winter, of course, more, i.e. up to 6.5-6.9l) Of course, for those who like to light up according to the principle: the trigger is on the floor, and I don’t know anyone else - THIS MACHINE IS NOT SUITABLE. But for those who want to come from home and back safe and sound and fall asleep in their bed (Shchyutka. Bambarbia kergudu), I think it’s worth considering this vehicle.

In general, sitting in this car, both in the city and on the highway, you don’t want to drive fast, on the contrary: drive and contemplate. There is no feeling of resentment that everyone is overtaking you on the highway. The midge flies quickly, but lives for a short time, but you, like a careful beetle, fly slowly. And when they overtake you, they go ahead, because there is less tension, the road in front of you is always clear.

It holds the road very confidently. Visibility - you can't imagine better. Middle and high beam excellent, but I would say it a little differently now. The low beam is very good, but the high beam is not very good, i.e. The lighting is good, but it differs from the near one, but not much.

Exterior mirrors, especially the driver's, allow you to see how the rear wheels and you can even see the reflection of the backlight rear number. Parking in reverse does not present the same difficulties as before. The dimensions here, well, you just feel it and that’s it.

According to the passport, the car has a load capacity of 600 kg (500 kg of cargo and 100 kg of driver). And I loaded it with this very passport and even more (28 bottles of water, 19 liters each) and the infection is coming, and at least henna. Now I actually found a job and I don’t use the car like that anymore.

Transporting long items is best on the roof, but I advise you to have a small stepladder in the trunk, since there is space there.

The comfort suits me quite well. The plastic is hard, but so what. A car for driving and transportation, not for relaxing and sleeping on the dashboard.

What I like: pockets in the doors and a huge shelf overhead the width of the cabin. I have discs there, and a first aid kit, and all sorts of rubbish.

But there must be shortcomings, omissions and harm; this cannot happen. I'll be glad that they are native. Eat!

What I noticed was by accident. When closing, the side sliding door hits the front door and, as a result, the paint on the sliding door (the uppermost corner) is knocked off.

Replacing spark plugs. You can replace them yourself, but it will be hemorrhoids. The spark plugs are located between the engine and the cabin. But that’s not all, you need to remove the plastic casing, but as the mechanic at the service station warned me, you need to remove it carefully, because... the casing has tubes that must be disconnected first and very carefully.

The hood does not fit tightly with right side and this is a factory defect. Dust flies under the hood.

Back front passenger It only reclines back and the headrest cannot be removed (this is in the case of transporting dynamometers).

The glove compartment is too small. Only the car's operating instructions fit there, well, you put the gloves and that's it.

The right rear swing door washer is definitely missing.

Coat hooks in the cabin are inconvenient.

Lack of repair literature.

If you need bodily comfort, carry a lot (family, dog, crops, garden equipment) and hurry up slowly - take it, you won’t regret it. I'm happy.

Before that there was a VAZ 21083 and 2111 - crooked grandchildren from a grandfather from Turin (Italian Car Factory from Turin). He sold it and crossed himself. We, MY HOMELAND, make good weapons, this is very pleasing - Death to NATO and their henchmen in the form of our Lada cars and roads that exist in the Amur region.
