Volvo XC90 | Engines

In 2005, Volvo introduced the V8 4.4 engine design Yamaha. Offering a power of 315 hp. which was installed with a six-speed automatic Aisin. This duo provided the best performance, although this also has its downsides. The sound of the V8 is rather disappointing, and fuel consumption can easily exceed 20 l/100 km, although it usually hovered around 16 liters.

Volvo XC90 | Drive transmission

Haldex drive coupling can create problems. If it comes down to a malfunction, then the most common culprit is the DEM control unit. Versions produced since 2008 are less vulnerable to this type of breakdown. Wheel bearings have a rather short lifespan.

Electrical/electronic faults also happen. This applies mainly to the very first specimens. Before buying, you must check the performance of all on-board systems.

As follows from the DEKRY report in the Volvo XC90, during periodic technical inspections, the most problems are created by brake system. The heavy body creates a constant load when braking, and the owner is waiting frequent replacement brake pads and brake discs. The steering tips also "die" relatively quickly. In 2004 appeared Volvo version XC90, equipped with a naturally aspirated 4.4-liter V-shaped "eight", issuing 315 hp. After the restyling carried out in 2006, a 2.4-liter turbodiesel boosted to 185 hp was added to the range of the above engines. and delivering a maximum torque of 400 Nm. In 2007, the 2.9-liter gasoline turbo engine was replaced by an atmospheric 3.2-liter "six" with a capacity of 238 hp. All gasoline engines in their design had a variable valve timing system. A belt is used as a timing drive on 2.5 and 2.9 liter gasoline engines, as well as a turbodiesel. On atmospheric gasoline engines, a chain is used as a timing drive.

Petrol units, according to owners, special problems do not deliver. When operating the vehicle in Russian conditions due to the low quality of fuel, representatives of official services recommend flushing the injection system every 30–40 thousand km. When carrying out this operation, it does not hurt to clean the throttle assembly from carbon deposits in order to avoid uneven engine operation on idling. The only exception is a five-speed automatic: after a run of 200 thousand km, the hydraulic module often fails, as a result of which jerks appear when shifting gears. Repair of this unit, along with spare parts, will cost approximately 60,000 rubles.

The multi-plate is responsible for the distribution of torque between the axles. friction clutch Haldex. When driving on a flat road, a little less than 5% of the torque is transmitted to the rear wheels. When one of the wheels of the front axle slips, up to 50% of the torque can be transferred to the rear axles. Unfortunately, forced blocking interaxle coupling is not provided. Chassis
