How to make a chopper from the Urals or the Dnieper with your own hands? How I built a budget electric bike chopper Chopper from Java with my own hands

In this mobile sandbox with elements of survival, players can create not only various machines and weapons, but also vehicles. At the moment, the most popular is a motorcycle or a chopper, since it is easier to assemble in comparison with other equipment and all the parts are already available for it. However, do not think that it will be easy to do it - you will need to spend a lot of time looking for all the spare parts. If you have difficulties with this, then you can read our guide on how to create a motorcycle in Last Day on Earth: Survival.

What is required to create a motorcycle in Last Day on Earth: Survival

The first thing to note is that you will need to open the drawing of the motorcycle. You can do this after reaching level 6 - you will have to spend 2 crafting points. After that, you can find out what parts you need to find in order to assemble your own motorcycle. In total, you will have to find over 100 different parts. A list of them can be found below:

  • 20 engine parts;
  • 10 wires;
  • 2 motorcycle wheels;
  • 30 bolts;
  • 10 bearings;
  • 20 rubber parts;
  • 30 units of scrap metal;
  • 1 handlebar (prong, fork) of a motorcycle;
  • 1 motorcycle gas tank;
  • 4 basic backpacks.

You will also need to create a motorcycle skeleton on the floor of your hideout. For this, the floor must be level 2. The structure itself will occupy an area of 2 by 2 meters in the room. It will take you 5 bolts, 5 iron ingots and 10 pine planks to build it. In general, you will need a lot of materials and now we will tell you where you can get them.

How to find parts for a chopper - where to find a gas tank

Engine parts are medium rarity items that can be used to craft not only a motorcycle, but also an ATV. They do not often drop in locations with a green hazard level, so we advise you to look for them in the Bravo or Alpha bunkers. They then fall out of the humanitarian aid boxes. If you do not feel a lack of money, then you can buy a box with spare parts in the in-game store for gold coins, bought for real currency.

Wires (cables) are widespread items that can be found without problems in boxes lying in locations with a green hazard level.

Motorcycle wheels - you can try to find them in chests lying in locations with a yellow hazard level, but with a 100% probability they are found in the Alpha bunker on the 1st lower level in the last room. If you do not feel a lack of money, you can buy a box with spare parts in the in-game store for gold coins purchased for real currency.

Bolts are another fairly common material, often found in boxes found in locations with a green hazard level. If you want to speed up their acquisition, then we advise you to visit territories with a yellow or even red threat level.

Bearings - you will need these parts to assemble not only the chopper, but also other equipment, including an all-terrain vehicle, a truck and a helicopter. They cannot be called rare, as they often fall out of boxes in green locations, however, we still advise you to visit the yellow regions or try to get to the humanitarian cargo.

Rubber parts - along with bearings, they are versatile parts used to create a lot of different devices. However, they are much less common, so it will take a lot of time to collect 20 units. As a rule, they can be found in locations with a yellow threat level. They are also found in the Bravo bunker and at the crash sites.

Scrap metal - at first glance, is useless, but in fact it has a lot of useful properties. First, it can be smelted into iron ingots. Secondly, it is required to craft vehicles. You will need 30 pieces of scrap metal. Fortunately, it is quite easy to find it - you just need to open boxes and chests in locations with a green threat level. Plus large amounts of scrap metal can be found on the corpses of other survivors.

Motorcycle steering wheel - it will not be easy to find this object, since at the moment it is found in only one place - on the 1st lower level of the "Alpha" bunker. However, you can also purchase it in the store using real currency. True, the probability of the steering wheel falling out of the box is not very high.

The Motorcycle Gas Tank is another rare item introduced with the lower levels of the Alpha Bunker. As you probably already guessed, you will have to look for it there. Unfortunately, it is generated randomly, so the first time you go through an underground structure, it may not be there at all, so go through it several times.

Basic backpacks are easy to craft items. You can create them already at the initial levels. This will require ropes (falling from ordinary zombies) and plant fibers (obtained from bushes in almost any location).

Having obtained all these parts, you can start assembling a motorcycle, which is a very useful vehicle that allows you to quickly move around various locations without spending precious energy. True, it will not be possible to drive it off-road and cross rivers.

How and for what you can use a motorcycle

After completing all work on the chopper, the motorcycle menu will contain options for refueling equipment, painting it and storing items in it. These sections are named as Repainting, Baggage, and Fill / Empty.

On the global map, in addition to the options "Run" and "Go", you will see the inscription "Drive". It will allow you to move to certain locations as quickly as when using the run, but the energy will not be wasted. But gasoline will start to be consumed. The motorcycle tank can be filled with 200 units of fuel. After arriving at the location, your motor vehicles will be parked near the place where the character appears on the screen.

Motorcycle repainting

To paint the chopper a different color, you will need a template and paints. You can find the scheme in the 1st lower level of the Alpha bunker. There are currently 10 different motorcycle colors available in the game, but this number is likely to be increased in the future.

How to refuel your motorcycle

You can both pour and pour gasoline from the chopper. To add fuel, place gasoline (canister) or a bottle of gasoline in the required slot and select the "Fill" option. If you want to empty the fuel, place an empty bottle in the slot and select the "Empty" option (your luggage must have an empty slot).

  • One canister of gasoline yields 25 units of motorcycle fuel. The canister itself disappears when used.
  • From one bottle of gasoline, you can get 10 units of fuel for a motorcycle. After using it, one empty bottle will appear in the chopper's luggage.

The fuel level of a motorcycle can be viewed either in its menu or on the map screen (displayed as an additional panel near the energy scale). You can find gasoline in other motorcycles, which are common decorations - just pour it into empty bottles.

Baggage

The motorcycle has 3 free slots for storing various items. It is not suitable for transporting a large number of things, so always take a backpack with you. However, until the advent of the all-terrain vehicle, the chopper remains the best vehicle in the game.

Do-it-yourself chopper, or maybe buy a ready-made motorcycle? This question is asked by many motorcyclists, especially beginners who have long decided for themselves that they will not ride a plastic sport, but a real iron motorcycle, in which the sound of the legendary V-twin makes a solid sound, and not the sound of a screeching coffee grinder. In this article, which is more intended for beginners in the interesting art of customizing, we will look at what it takes to make the right chopper with your own hands, and how to make many details for it that will make it quite original and have a cool appearance. ...

How to build a chopper with your own hands is not so easy to write, since there are a huge number of styles of customized motorcycles (custom), and their steepness directly depends on the number of banknotes, the skilled hands of the master and on the equipment available in his garage. And when reading about the construction of a particular custom, some beginner customizer may simply not be able to pull it off, due to a lack of funds and the necessary equipment. Or he may simply not like the style of some custom, because there are a lot of styles.

Therefore, this article will not describe the construction of a particular custom of a certain style, and my recommendations in this article will be purely conditional, but still I hope it will be useful for novice customizers. In addition, when building any chopper, there may be a lot of nuances that cannot be described in one article.

But for a more detailed explanation, when making some parts for a chopper with my own hands, I will put the appropriate link, by clicking on which the dear reader will be able to study in more detail and in detail the manufacture of some equipment or some kind of chopper part, and successfully apply this knowledge at home in the garage. And so we went.

What you need before you start making a chopper with your own hands.

The first thing to do before starting work is to decide on a budget. After all, the right chopper, which in terms of the quality of performance and its steepness, can easily surpass the serial factory bike, requires a certain investment of funds. And the more these investments, the cooler the ready-made custom will turn out.

Of course, with certain skills in working with metal and the availability of the appropriate equipment, tools and materials, you can make a decent chopper without large investments. But many aspiring motorcyclists don't have the skills, equipment, or the right materials. And a significant part of the money will be spent on high-quality tools, materials and some devices, which will be described below, and without which you cannot do anything with your bare hands.

And of course, the bulk of the money will be spent on the purchase of a donor's motorcycle, without it in any way. After all, you cannot make an engine and a frame with a number and the corresponding documents on your own, even if you have super expensive equipment in the workshop (the frame can be made from scratch, only it will be dimensionless). Moreover, some parts from some donor motorcycles can be used.

This is the same engine, part of the frame with a number, the front wheel (not always, but often used after revision), the front fender (of course, also converted), the front fork and other parts that, with the presence of certain skills and tools, can be changed beyond recognition.

A donor motorcycle, in order to save a significant amount of money, can be bought in poor condition or broken, the main thing is that he has documents in order and that after an accident the engine and the number on the frame are preserved. The engine, documents and part of the frame with a nameplate or number on it are the main thing that is needed to build a chopper, and everything else can be made independently, or purchased from catalogs.

And after buying a donor's motorcycle, before starting to disassemble it, cut it and do something with it, of course, you first need to re-register it for yourself, register it. This will help avoid problems in the future.

The most common donor in most serious custom workshops is almost all motorcycle models of the legendary Harley Davidson brand. Since they have the most beautiful engine and the sound of its exhaust.

And the possibilities of tuning even old motors are not limited, and most of the catalogs are designed just for motorcycles of this more than a hundred-year-old American brand.

Moreover, some models of Harleys come from the factory with a springer fork, which is very popular when building custom in the now popular old school style (old school of customizing) or bobber.

Slightly less popular motorcycle donors are choppers from four well-known Japanese companies. And even despite the fact that the motors of Japanese choppers are more sophisticated in technical terms and more powerful than the serial Harley V-twins, custom Harleys are more popular, because in such an art form as customizing, motor power does not play any role, and most importantly - This is the manufacture of various parts with jewelry meticulousness to detail.

In addition, modern Japanese motorcycle factories still have not managed to surpass the legendary and incomparable exhaust sound of the popular American V-twin.

Now, when building a chopper, one important circumstance should be taken into account - the more parts are hung on the chopper, which are made by hand, the steeper it is considered to be a custom. The times of catalogs have passed, and many even reputable custom offices abroad have become popular and have taken the lead in the world market precisely after the start of manufacturing exclusive parts on their own.

And those vehicles that win the custom championships do not have any parts from the catalogs at all, since every part, from the soldered frame to the perimetric brake discs, is made by hand. Only tires are bought for such custom cars, and such devices are considered a work of art and cost a lot of money. In Russia, this is only beginning to be understood, but most of the choppers of some custom offices are still hung with some purchased parts from catalogs.

Although, of course, everything depends on the wishes of the customer, and many of them are not able to wait until every detail is made by hand, and many of us are not able to pay a lot of money for the painstaking work.

Some choppers are built on the basis of Japanese inline-four donors, but they are not as popular as American or Japanese V-twin choppers, although there are quite interesting and high quality machines. And an example of such a custom made from an old and ancient Japanese motorcycle is shown in the video below the article. But the sound of their exhaust is certainly inferior to the legendary V-twin.

Choppers with British motors from Triumph or from BSA are also less popular, although in the 60s and 70s of the last century they were no less popular than Harley motors.

As for donors based on boxer motors of domestic motorcycles, at the dawn of the Russian bike movement they were very popular, and they are still popular among low-budget workshops. But the promoted custom-canters stopped working with them, as most of the wealthy clients customize more expensive and prestigious V-twin motorcycles for conversion.

But with a skillful approach and skillful hands, you can make a pretty decent device with a domestic opposed (for example, as in the photo on the left), but it's a pity that such devices in most cases are designed only for exhibitions, since the owners of such devices may have problems with passing technical inspection. Although this problem is also solvable, if the owner of such an apparatus has paper with American presidents.

Chopper building tools and equipment.

It is impossible to build a decent chopper with your bare hands, and of course, before you start doing something, you should buy the necessary tool, which will be described below. And if you have skillful hands, locksmith skills and an already purchased tool, it will be possible to make useful equipment in the future, which will greatly speed up work with metal and make the result of this work much better.

And so, what you need to purchase in order to be able to build a chopper with your own hands:

  • Of course, the angle grinder, popularly referred to as the "grinder".

  • An electric drill (a screwdriver (wrench) with a set of bits, in the form of cap heads) will also do the trick.

  • A set of drills and cutters.

  • A set of taps and dies.

  • Semiautomatic welding machine (even better is an argon-arc welding machine, and ideally both of them will not interfere).

  • Scissors for metal (preferably electric).

  • A jigsaw with a set of metal files will not hurt either.

  • Emery.

  • Drill.

  • A set of wrenches and ratchet sockets.

  • A set of special hammers and anvils for working with sheet metal (a set for bodywork (straightening) work).

Above was listed the minimum tool that should be purchased by beginners at the initial stage. And for those who wish to approach the matter more seriously and greatly increase the speed of work and the quality of the work performed, then gradually you should acquire or make:

  • Building berth.

  • English wheel.

  • Useful attachment for an English wheel.

  • Zygmashinka.

  • Pipe trimmer.

  • Pipe bender.

  • Listogib.

  • Grinder.

  • Compressor.

By clicking on the links published just above, you can familiarize yourself in detail with very useful equipment (and how to make it), and without this equipment it is impossible to make a high-quality custom. And if it is possible, then a lot of time will be spent on work without these devices, and the quality of the finished products will be significantly worse.

And yet - I strongly advise you to get acquainted with an adequate turner and miller at a neighboring plant, and preferably with those who are indifferent to alcohol. After all, most beginners cannot afford to buy and install a lathe and milling machine in their workshop, and they will be very necessary. Since most of the parts will have to be sharpened from scratch, from the gas cap to the longer axles for the wider wheels and their hubs.

The beginning of work on the construction of a chopper with your own hands.

After purchasing the necessary tool, purchasing a donor and registering it, you should sketch out a rough sketch of the future custom and a work plan for the future.

And if you are planning to make a custom not in the style of a board tracker or a cafe racer, or not as custom as in the photo on the left, then the most common operation that many customizers do first is to expand the frame for a wider wheel. How to expand the rear of the frame to fit a wider wheel, I wrote in here and of course, those who wish can click and read.

And many believe that building a chopper begins with expanding a serial frame, but expanding its rear to the required size will be very difficult if a ready-made wider rear wheel is not available. Therefore, it is very advisable to first order or make yourself a wider wheel of the desired width and diameter. And how to make a wider wheel with your own hands, and moreover, no worse than at a motorcycle factory, I wrote

And the serial frame itself, in addition to expanding its rear, will also need to be finalized. For example, in the steering columns of the frames of domestic motorcycles, there are still weak thrust bearings of a bicycle type, which wear out very quickly and the handling of the motorcycle is lame, to put it mildly. And the first step is to replace these bearings with more powerful tapered bearings (such as in the wheels of the Dnieper and Ural, but one size larger).

To do this, the cups of the standard bearings are cut off the frame, and in their place cups of a slightly larger diameter are welded into which the outer cages of the tapered bearings are subsequently pressed. I wrote more about this in the article on the geometry of motorcycle frames, and the link to this article is below in the text.

The frames of modern imported motorcycles already have more or less normal bearings from the factory, but there are enough alterations on such frames. Since even imported serial frames are heavier and uglier than homemade frames made from scratch, and extra parts have to be cut off from most serial frames (especially Japanese motorcycles) to lighten the weight.

Of course, there are a large number of types of frames (what kind of frames we read) and everyone chooses their own version for themselves. But nowadays, old school choppers are very popular, which have very light "hardtail" frames, which do not have a rear suspension and therefore have beautiful classic lines of a triangular rear end. And these frames are the lightest.

And although driving on our roads is rather uncomfortable on such frames, beauty and style require sacrifices. And such devices are not designed for long trips, but for short rides around the city, or for moving the driver's body from bar to bar. And choppers with such frames are very popular now.

And the most common operation when building an old-school custom is to trim the entire rear end, which has shock absorbers, and after that a homemade rigid part is welded in (see photo on the left) and at the same time the frame expands slightly.

An example of such a finished converted frame is shown in the photo on the left. Although it takes very little to expand the frame for old-school devices, since usually a rear wheel wider than 130 - 150 mm is not used on such devices.

Much wider wheels are used on high-tech choppers (or with high-tech frames - with a high-raised steering column) and the width of the rear wheels on such devices reaches 360 - 400 mm.

Here, a more global expansion of the rear part of the frame is required, and even the rear wheel drive should be taken out to the side. In what way the rear roller drive is usually taken out to the side, I wrote in an article about altering the rear of the frame (the link is located above in the text).

As for the front wheel, here, too, its width determines the style, since, for example, wider front wheels are installed on bobbers (usually 130x90x16), and on classic choppers, the front wheel is much thinner, and has a width of only 80-100 mm, and how usually the diameter is 21 inches or more. Although now there are quite a few styles in which the wheels can be of very different widths and diameters. Everyone chooses for himself the size that suits his taste and of course the style.

By the way, you can make a spoked wheel much steeper than a standard factory one, if you modify this standard wheel. You should grind a more exclusive hub from scratch (for more spokes and steeper brake discs), and squeeze out additional bumps on the rim, for installing more spokes (how to squeeze out bumps is written in the article about making a wheel from scratch, link to the article above in the text ). And then the front wheel will not need to be bought, unless of course you want to install an alloy cast on your chopper.

Front fork.

The front fork can easily transform the look of any chopper, and can change not only the silhouette, but also the ride quality of your motorcycle. Although, again, when building a chopper, most customizers usually do not pay attention to handling and comfort, the main thing is the appearance, which determines the steepness of the chopper and from which significant revival can arise in the gray city traffic.

Of course, in addition to the fork, the angle of the steering column affects the silhouette and ride quality of the motorcycle, and to be precise, the trail and rake, which should be taken into account when rebuilding the frame or making it from scratch. This topic is worthy of a separate article. The same article describes in detail the refinement of the frames of domestic motorcycles and the replacement of bearings with tapered ones.

The most popular type of modification for serial forks is lengthening them with special inserts and replacing the traverses with wider ones, or simply polishing and chrome-plating the standard traverses. When lengthening the fork stays, in order not to lift the frame relative to the ground and maintain a beautiful silhouette and low ground clearance, the steering column tilt angle should be increased. That is, to ensure that after installing a longer fork, the ground clearance (the distance from the lower frame tubes to the ground) remains the same as it was.

But most often, the ground clearance (clearance) is underestimated by two times, and in addition to a stronger inclination of the fork, the alteration of the rear part of the frame also affects the underestimation (the shift of the rear wheel axle is higher than it was in the stock). With all these works, it is very important to preserve the precise geometry of the steering column and the entire frame, and it is only possible to carry out such alterations correctly if there is a slipway (the link to the article about the slipway is located above, in the list of tools and accessories).

So the installation of an elongated fork is not so simple and will entail a number of serious alterations of the frame itself and its steering column, taking into account the correct angles (rail and trail - see the link about them a little higher, about the corners of the steering column).

But now motorcycles in the style of old school and bobber have become very popular, in which the fork (usually a springer) does not lengthen, or lengthens only slightly. But changing the angle of the steering column is often used on these devices.

Indeed, with a greater tilt of the steering column, even with a short fork, the silhouette of the custom is significantly improved (made more rapid). At the same time, the ground clearance is only a couple of centimeters and it becomes difficult to drive on such a device on our roads. But all the same, for many it is not important, because beauty requires sacrifice.

In addition, many reputable customizers are not satisfied with the serial Springer, and many make it even cooler (using the skills of working with hot flexible metal and blacksmithing), and an example of such an exclusive fork is shown in the photo on the left.

It's pointless to write about the choice of a fork and which one is better and which one is worse, since it all depends on the style, taste and what kind of silhouette of your custom you want to get in the end.

Chopper attachment.

Of course, the frame, fork and wheels play an important role in the formation of the silhouette of a beautiful chopper, but an equally important factor that determines its steepness and the skill of the customizer is the custom attachment (tanks, fenders, glove compartments, oil tanks and all kinds of small parts popularly called " tsatzki "or" goodies ").

And it is the hitch that requires a lot of tools and equipment for its manufacture, as well as certain skills in working with sheet metal and skilled hands. And most of this equipment is designed specifically for working with sheet metal, that is, for giving a flat steel sheet a certain convex shape.

And without special equipment, the links of which are published by me above, it is almost impossible to make something standing out of sheet metal with your bare hands. And if possible, then a lot of time will be spent. Moreover, during the manufacture, an important circumstance should be taken into account, the more original and different from others the parts of the hinge will be made, the steeper your chopper will be.

There are a great many shapes of tanks, wings and other parts of the hinge, and every time something new and dissimilar appears. But novice customizers, when building their own chopper, should not chase complex shapes at first, but start with the simplest shapes.

In addition, style plays an important role here, since for example, for old school style choppers or for bobbers, a simpler gas tank with a flat bottom is required, as in the photo on the left (I wrote how to make such a gas tank here in). And for techno (high-tech) custom designs, you can make a more complex tank (I wrote how to make a more complex tank with my own hands).

For so-called free style choppers, the concave-bottomed gas tank I have described may work. Well, who is interested in seeing how I made a more complex tank, then watch the video below, which I published on my channel as a guide for beginners and in order to fill the gap on this topic on the Russian-language Internet. I have no secrets and I think it will be useful for beginners to watch this video, divided into three parts.

Of course, beginners should first try to make a simpler classic tank, and as they gain some experience, move on to more complex products. But still, when making a more complex tank, in the video below, there are some tips that I hope will be useful to novice customizers.

By the way, I have other videos on working with sheet metal on my suvorov-custom channel (on YouTube) and I hope over time, as I have free time, I will try to publish such videos more, and in order not to miss new videos - do not forget to subscribe to channel.

As for the fenders, of course, like the tank, they must also match in style. For example, bobbers or radical choppers may not have a front wing at all, and the rear wing is usually very short. But it's still better to make a chopper wing from scratch, since the alteration of a regular wing does not always coincide with the style of the future custom. In addition, an exclusive wing made from scratch will be one and only, and this will add coolness to it.

By the way, some exclusive fenders, such as the one on the left, will not perform their main function of protecting against dirt at all. But the main thing is a cool appearance, and protective functions are not important for many, since such devices are designed for exhibitions, or for movement in dry weather over short distances (from bar to bar).

I wrote how to independently make a wing for a chopper using an English wheel, and you can read how to make a wing without using a machine tool an English wheel, but using a zigmachine.

Well, I should say a little about the glove compartments, which allow you to position an electrician for a chopper, or carry some kind of minimal tool. On some custom cars (for example, in the same old school style), a cool glove compartment or oil tank is not at all difficult to make from a fire extinguisher body, a gas mask filter, or from a German gas mask case, but you never know what is already in the shape of a cylinder and will allow beginners to get by without rollers (to roll the sheet into a cylinder).

And such products will not look bad at all and also original, especially if the edges of the cylinder are cut off at a certain angle (for example, as in the photo). And the finished cases of the above products will save time and effort in the manufacture of many original hinge parts from scratch. The main thing here is the flight of imagination, and of course, skillful hands. This is what makes such an art form as customizing interesting.

And to hang a leather hinge on the chopper or not, everyone decides for himself. But on a long journey, it definitely will not hurt.

Well, under the article, I publish a useful and interesting video that proves that with skillful hands and a bright head, you can make an excellent custom even from an ancient Japanese motorcycle, and the motor of this motorcycle is not at all twin, but an inline four. But it doesn't spoil the look of the custom at all.

This video proves once again that you can make a unique custom even from trash, and I hope that this video will be an incentive for beginners and will serve as an impetus to start their further work.

Well, I hope that this article will at least a little help beginners to build a chopper with their own hands, and maybe in the near future, you will approach this interesting business more seriously and put it on stream, success to everyone!

This topic is worthy of a separate article that I wrote, and I advise you to read in detail about the corners and geometry of the frame. The same article describes in detail the refinement of the frames of domestic motorcycles and the replacement of bearings with tapered ones.

The most popular type of modification for serial forks is lengthening them with special inserts and replacing the traverses with wider ones, or simply polishing and regular traverses. When lengthening the fork stays, in order not to lift the frame relative to the ground and maintain a beautiful silhouette and a small ground clearance, you should increase it.

For so-called free style choppers, the concave-bottomed gas tank I have described may work. Well, who is interested in seeing how I made a more complex tank, then watch the video below, which I published on my suvorov-custom channel as a guide for beginners and in order to fill the gap on this topic on the Russian-language Internet.

And if you can still do without a leather hinge, then you can't do without a seat. But I described how to make a chopper seat from scratch with your own hands, and there are two options for making seats, with a plastic base and with a metal one.

Well, I hope that this article will at least a little help beginners to build a chopper with their own hands, and maybe in the near future, you will approach this business more seriously and make this exciting activity your main source of income, success for everyone!

Choppers emerged as a variant of motorcycles that were redesigned for street racing. But over time, chopper motorcycles began to be mass-produced, and they were transformed into a separate type of motor vehicle.

The first choppers appeared in the thirties of the last century, but the biker movement gained popularity in the post-war years. The abundance of identical motorcycles prompted some craftsmen to create exclusive motorcycles, which later became the prototype of the classic chopperr.

Chopper: insignia

The most striking differences of choppers from other motorcycles are the elongated, high handlebars, which add shocking to the chopper. It is also worth noting the absence of a deep rear wing, and in some models even the complete absence of a front wing.

In addition, the chopper boasts a rear Great Wide Wheel, as bikers call it. It is a wide rear roller-wheel, which is also a significant difference from a conventional chopper bike.

Also, choppers have a drop-shaped tank, small in volume, and a low seating position of the driver, which corresponds to the relaxed and imposing style of the biker.

If we look at the photos of choppers, a large number of chrome elements can be noted. It is worth noting that the chopper is not designed for fast riding, as on sports bikes, so the motorcycle engine runs mainly at low rpm and does not have the pronounced dynamics of racing bikes. Chopper is a status motorbike that is designed for a comfortable ride, not for high-speed racing.

Another difference between the chopper is soft shock absorbers and a fairly high torque, which allows you to drive slowly at high revs. The closest "relative" of the chopper is the cruiser - a motorcycle that is built for the road.

The most famous chopper manufacturers

The most popular chopper is, of course, the legendary Harley Davidson. Having an American chopper is every biker's dream. It is worth noting that Harley motorcycles have been popular for several decades, and have long become a household name for a good bike. If we talk about other manufacturers, then pretty good Honda choppers, especially Honda, VT 750 DC Black Spirit, VT 1300 CXA Fury and other motorcycles in this line.

Recently, mini choppers have started to appear. This is the same chopper, but in miniature. Of course, the technical parameters of the mini chopper will lag slightly behind its big brother, but you don't need to have a license to ride such a miracle.

DIY chopper

Chopper is not cheap, but this does not stop the real biker. So, converted choppers appear on our roads, which, in terms of technical characteristics, are in no way inferior to factory units.

If you decide to assemble a chopper with your own hands, first find a suitable donor that will become the base for your chopper. The easiest option is to make a chopper from Ural. This bike already has almost everything you need for a classic chopper. You just have to do some magic with the rear wheel and lengthen the handlebars for the chopper. If you know a little about technology, you shouldn't have any problems. In addition to Ural, choppers are made on the basis of the Dnepr motorcycle; Izh or Minsk are also popular donors. Additional parts are taken from VAZ or ZAZ vehicles.

Well, then everything depends on your imagination, only you can know which chopper you want and tune it accordingly. Today it is not difficult to buy chrome trims, fenders or exhaust, but with the help of these parts, you will give your chopper.

So, a prototype was put up for public judgment, very vaguely reminiscent of a modern motorcycle. The design is more reminiscent of the brainchild of the garage Kulibins, who undertook to build a "chopper" from grandfather's old "Ural". There is not much money and experience, but this is more than compensated for by enthusiasm and a desire to ride. We will not talk about design yet, nevertheless we have a "mule" on which constructive elements are worked out.

The frame of the motorcycle is very similar to the structural element of the Irbit motorcycle "Ural" M-63, which was produced in the middle of the last century. Material - steel pipe. Recall that the M-63 frame became a logical development of the frame of the M-72 motorcycle, which, in turn, was copied from the BMW R-71 motorcycle of the 1938 model year. Modern technology in action, so to speak.

A propeller shaft and final drive housing are integrated into the rear swingarm. In the domestic motorcycle industry, no one has yet used this technology, but the same Germans, and the Japanese, adopted this technological technique about fifty years ago. It is worth noting one more technical "novelty" well known to many garage customizers. Historically, the geometry of the swingarm, frame, and propeller shaft arrangement has assumed the use of very narrow wheels. However, the chopper style assumes the installation of a fat tire on the rear wheel. Judging by the photo, a 200 / 60R16 wheel is installed on the "Russian motorcycle" (which, by the way, bears the inscription "Made in Germany"). In order to prevent the propeller shaft from touching the thick wheel, a gearbox had to be used, which helped to shift the propeller shaft to the side. In general, everything is in the best traditions of garage "tuning".

The rear suspension shock absorbers migrated straight from the "Ural", the front fork, presumably, is also borrowed from foreign counterparts. The domestic industry has not produced such units for many years.

Since developing engines "from scratch" is a very expensive and time-consuming pleasure, available only to very rich and experienced corporations, domestic home-grown motorcycle builders did not "reinvent the wheel" and took the crankcase and CPG from the same "Ural" model of one thousand nine hundred and forty as the basis of their engine. dense year. As conceived by the creators, the engine of a real "Russian motorcycle" should have a low-valve circuit (borrowed from the same IMZ M-72 - BMW R-71, see model year above). At the same time, the working volume of the engine was increased from 750 to 1,100 cm3, and instead of carburetors (oh, miracle!), A fuel injection system was installed.

However, the manufacturer promises that the engine power will be increased to 150 hp. Obviously, it is impossible to remove the declared power from the lower valve of such a working volume. Let me remind you that the M-72 engine with a volume of 750 cm3 developed "as much" 27 hp, and the most powerful of the serial Irbit units, a modern overhead valve of the same volume, develops 40 hp.

Therefore, among the photographs distributed by the manufacturer, there are also shots of overhead (not to be confused with overhead) heads with two valves per cylinder (obviously borrowed from the grandfather's box with spare parts from the old "Ural"). At the same time, you can see pistons in the cylinders that have recesses for four valves. What the developers wanted to say by this is not clear. Either a four-valve head is planned, or there were no other pistons in the "box with old spare parts" and they inserted what came to hand.

In a word, it is too early to talk about the engine in its final version. It is only clear that this is not the best copy of the motor, which will soon be 100 (one hundred) years old. Power, judging by external data, is unlikely to exceed 60 hp.

1 / 2

2 / 2

The picture is completed by a fuel tank borrowed from the Ural Wolf motorcycle of the Irbit plant, the headlight has clearly migrated to the motorcycle from armored vehicles, disc brakes are obviously imported, since nothing of the kind is produced in Russia. The gearbox is a four-stage unit from the "Ural" (by the way, it is not at all clear how it will cope with the increased power and torque, because it was calculated for half the figures).

Looking at all this "splendor", it becomes sad. Of course, it would be silly to wait for an ultra-modern motorcycle developed by members of a separate, albeit very odious, motorcycle club and a factory that specializes in the production of gas cylinders and wheel chocks for railway cars. But what we see today is more reminiscent of some kind of farce and the construction of a "Potemkin village" in the worst sense of these concepts.

It is obvious that it is impossible to build a motorcycle "completely on domestic components" in modern realities. Russia does not produce motor tires of the sizes required for such a motorcycle, brakes, fuel injection systems, lighting equipment (only if from a tank), and no company will undertake crankcase molding. Today, even the leading manufacturers of motor vehicles order casting blanks for crankcases and cylinders in the countries of Southeast Asia and only carry out the final one on their own.

If the motorcycle is assembled from old stocks of spare parts and components of the Irbit Motorcycle Plant and VAZ, then the question arises, how will this craft differ from the work of home-grown Left-handers who have planed similar curves and oblique self-propelled guns in garages for the last twenty years? It is worth noting that domestic bikers have long abandoned such exercises. And if your hands itch very much, you can pick out the old "Japanese". In any case, you can find quality parts and tuning for it.

We will continue to monitor the controversial project. However, they do not intend to be overly optimistic about this.
