The new “Nissan Teana” has appeared in Russia. Used Nissan Teana J31: wonderful V6 and terrible CVTs We do more than dealer centers

Almost all cars only have front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive right-hand drive cars are rare, although technically they are nothing special. The units are the same as on the Murano and X-Trail, long familiar and widespread. The clutch and its electronics are somewhat weak, but nothing more. For a passenger car that does not venture into serious off-road conditions, there is nothing criminal.

In principle, there are no weak links in the transmission, except for the gearbox itself. The CV joints are strong and even the boots do not break for quite a long time. The hub assemblies are not the strongest, but they will have to be replaced sooner due to ABS sensors what I was talking about.

From the factory, the car was equipped only with automatic transmission, but this does not mean that you will not find cars with “mechanics”. I myself saw Teana on a manual with a 3.5 engine, and there is reason to believe that such a transmission “swap” is not an isolated case. Still, don’t count too much on this option. Almost all Teans are either equipped with a four-speed Jatco automatic transmission developed by Nissan itself, or with a CVT, which in the early 2000s was considered the latest in fashion.

Actually, it is the RE0F09A variator (aka JF010E according to the Jatco classification) on cars with 3.5 that is Teana’s main failure. On the one hand, the use stepless gearbox made it possible to maintain and even significantly reduce fuel consumption of the top-end engine - on the highway and in the city it is a good 15-25% more economical than the widely used junior 2.3.

And yet, the variator, although it seemed to be designed for high torque, does not “work” with the 3.5 engine. Despite all the efforts of designers to limit the load on the belt, it is still constantly at risk, and the working surfaces of the cones wear out very quickly.

Let's be honest: the owner of a car with a 3.5 engine is unlikely to deny himself the pleasure of sometimes “crushing a slipper.” And even frosts... But the variator does not like sudden loads or driving when not warmed up. If we add here irregular oil changes in the box and wear of the torque converter lining, it turns out that the service life of most automatic transmissions of this type with a 3.5 engine turned out to be very low.

Pictured: Nissan Teana (J31) "2006–08

Few problems? Add a relatively small number of cars with a CVT and low level masters' literacy. There was simply no one to repair the broken unit, and the owners of the powerful Teans took a spoonful of grief.

But structurally the box differs little from the extremely popular RE0F10A and RE0F06A transmissions. They can be found on many models of Renault, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Chrysler and many others, where they have proven themselves well.

If you nevertheless bought a car with a CVT, and it is still alive, then change the oil as often as possible, once every 30 thousand, for example. Install external filter on the box cooling system, make sure the thermostat is working properly. And try not to use all the engine power, do not skid under any circumstances and do not use engine braking modes.

Too many restrictions? Alas, the life of the variator cannot be saved otherwise. If you ignore the recommendations, then in addition to the general wear of the hydraulic unit of the box, there is a risk of failure of the pump pressure valve. Then the box will face shock loads, rapid belt rupture and damage to the cones, and at the same time wear and tear of the Forward clutch pack.

With careful use, the belt life will be about 150 thousand kilometers. Cases of mileage exceeding 200 thousand are rare, and experts advise changing the belt preventively before it wears out the cones. The friction notches on the belt wear out over time, it removes oil from the contact zone less well and begins to slide with less and less load, wearing out the surfaces of the cones and damaging them. And when long runs wear of the main steel belts affects them - they weaken and thereby significantly worsen working conditions at large gear ratios of the box.

When purchasing, be sure to check the operation of the box under load. During intense acceleration, there should be no twitching, much less noise, from the transmission; when driving at speeds of 90-130 km/h “on a cruise,” the tachometer needle should remain in place without minor fluctuations. When the load changes, for example, driving uphill, the speed should change very smoothly, almost imperceptibly. Turning on Drive and Reverse should, again, be gentle.

Any problems with the variator will most likely lead to large expenses, because there are few contract units, and their wear and tear is quite high. Repair components are quite expensive. Belt - at least 30 thousand rubles, rebuilt oil pump - approximately 20 thousand. A set of shafts costs 150 thousand rubles.

Cars with 2.0 and 2.3 liter engines were equipped with a much more conventional automatic transmission, a four-speed hydromechanical RE4F04A. This box appeared on Maxima and has proven itself well. With normal maintenance, the mileage before the first repair is usually about 200 thousand kilometers. This was followed by repairs with the replacement of some solenoids and... another 200 thousand before problems with the oil pump and serious wear of the clutch packs appeared. Compared to the variator, it’s a real salvation.

Radiator

price for original

18,584 rubles

A typical disease is disappearance reverse gear. Here the Reverse planetary gear is rather weak - its splines are cut off. However, this kind of breakdown is more typical for SUVs and crossovers with the same automatic transmission. Wear brake band affects primarily the smooth engagement of gears 1-2 and the wear of the High and Forward Clutch packages. I already wrote about the features of controlling the pressure solenoid in the “electrics” section - changing the parameters of the “step-down” resistor also leads to harsh operation of the automatic transmission. Other automatic transmission diseases are only caused by a combination of very poor maintenance and severe stress. Of the four-speed gearboxes, this is considered one of the most successful.

In practice, almost all drivers are forced to endure the harsh shifting of 1-2, and in advanced cases, 3-4, and even with a shock when turning on Drive / Reverse. Frequent replacement oils and a good external radiator can slightly increase the lifespan. The reality is that this box, like all reliable units, is often simply killed by a complete lack of maintenance and delay necessary repairs. I’ll repeat the old truth once again: “reliable” does not mean “indestructible.” There is nothing indestructible in modern cars.

Motors

Nissan Teana J 31 was generally lucky with its engines. Nissan's V 6 Series VQ are famous good resource and a successful design. And the QR inline fours also performed a little worse. As for general difficulties, first of all pay attention to the cooling system. The quality of radiators is very mediocre, sometimes Chinese analogues They withstand our salt and slush better. Even on cars aged 6-8 years, owners noted the complete disappearance of the cooling fins in the lower part - they were simply eaten up by corrosion. And by the age of ten, leaks often occur due to bad contact plastic parts and metal, and the radiator core corrodes and leaks.

Some difficulties with the under-hood electrics are possible, but overall everything is put together well. You just need to keep it clean and avoid large accumulations of dirt and oil spills. Relatively weak catalysts need to be changed at the first signs of wear or after significant oil consumption appears for any reason - the exhaust here is quite thin and tuned. When ceramic chips appear, they go into the cylinders almost immediately, leading to instant wear of the rings and scuffing of the pistons.

Timing chain VQ23DE

5,188 rubles

The simplest engine that can sometimes be found under the hood of Teana is the in-line four QR 20DE. It is rare on Teana, but it is a very common motor for X-Trail and Primera. Not the best or most successful Nissan engine, but quite decent. The resource of the timing chain is about 100-150 thousand kilometers, it is quite stable and depends on the load on the engine. It is recommended to inspect the timing belt when the mileage is about a hundred thousand, along with adjusting the valves and checking the operation of the phase shifter.

The first series of engines are remembered for the early shedding of the catalyst already mentioned above and subsequent scuffing of the piston group. And the engine is also characterized by a poor start in cold weather - at temperatures below -20 degrees, it stubbornly fills the spark plugs for any reason.

Minor problems with unstable work, vibrations and leaks abound. The service life of the piston group is about 200-250 thousand, after which you can expect an inevitable oil burn. But the liners are replaceable, and the pistons are relatively inexpensive. No catastrophic tricks involving loss of oil pressure were noticed. It is not recommended to buy, because Teana was also equipped with V6 engines with best characteristics And large resource. And in terms of fuel consumption, the two-liter engine is inferior even to the unsuccessful “3.5 + CVT” combination.

Most often, Teana can be found with a 2.3-liter VQ23DE engine. Despite the modest volume, there are 6 cylinders. The larger 3.5 VQ35DE differs from it minimally, but is less common.

These engines are considered one of the the best engines in your class. With proper maintenance, the resource is already over 400 thousand kilometers - real “millionaires of our time”. The timing drive has quite reliable chains. There are three of them: one main and two chains connecting the camshafts in each cylinder head. The main chain usually has a resource of more than 200 thousand.

Phase shifter

price for original

Excellent traction, power, resource and also boost capabilities. And at the same time, they are very conveniently arranged, light in weight and compact. Of course, this is not without difficulties. Thus, poor starting in winter is just as common as on inline fours. And on engines produced before 2008, the catalysts died quite early. If the problem was not fixed under warranty or they were not removed completely, then problems with increased wear of the piston group are also possible.

Engine oil consumption is slightly higher than average - both the not very advanced crankcase ventilation system and the large average mileage, and the design of the piston group. But if the engine consumes within a couple of liters from replacement to replacement, then there is no need to worry. This is quite typical, and the consumption will not progress quickly in the near future. Even slight overheating without air jams the engine is usually forgiving, the main thing is not to miss the oil level and change it every 10, maximum 15 thousand kilometers, at least. Dirty oil quickly kills the oil pump and sharply increases the gaps in the timing mechanism - they also require adjustment here, at least once every 60-80 thousand kilometers. And the appearance of vapor locks with serious overheating can lead to warping of the cylinder head or valve cover.

It is recommended to change candles more often - you can use not platinum ones, which are based on “rank,” but regular ones, but with replacement at least once every 40 thousand. In this case, the ignition modules will last longer, and the running will be smoother and the output will be higher. To replace spark plugs back row cylinders, the intake manifold needs to be removed, but the procedure looks scarier than it actually is.

Also, to maintain comfort in the car interior, it is recommended to change the engine mounts every three to four years - the engine is quite vibration-loaded, so the wear of its suspension elements is significant.

Vibrations are also associated with the Teana-specific problem of rubbing the fuel hose. Check the engine compartment for this gasket. important element– fires do happen, and most often on the left side due to gasoline getting into the exhaust under load.

Oil leaks on these engines occur regularly: camshaft position sensors on the cylinder head, spark plug wells and valve covers leak. This problem can be treated by cleaning and replacing the ventilation system, but be careful, this is the first sign of serious wear and tear on the engine piston group. If the upper catalysts are in place, then they are probably crumbling, and the wear of the piston group is already serious.

In general, the “eternal” engine also has difficulties, so cars with the “younger” V6 are also not worth taking without looking. However, the choice of contract units is very wide; in case of serious troubles with an old engine, it is easier to buy a used one good condition– the probability of finding a successful copy is very high.

So should I take it or not?

Business class at this age is usually expensive to operate. But Teana is pleased in this sense: if you buy a car with a 2.3 engine, then the risks are minimal. Yes, the four-speed automatic transmission is a clear anachronism, but European cars by 2008 they had already installed seven-speed ones... But everything works reliably - both the engine and the gearbox.

Pictured: Nissan Teana (J31) "2006–08

The most sore spot– the body can still be maintained in good condition, just at a slightly higher cost than the “best examples.” Don't think, European models, even a little more recent, have even more problems in this area. Cars with rings on the radiator grille and with a star rot, and sometimes much faster and more unpleasantly.

Serious disadvantages include poor interior quality, a mediocre multimedia system and poor handling. And the suspension requires regular maintenance.

But if you count, then all the disadvantages overlap by a large margin. Especially if you are not a connoisseur of fine handling, do not require a powerful car to consume fuel like a small car, and are not accustomed to the European ergonomics of premium brands. The eternal problem with the model is that Teana’s main competitor is very strong. Toyota Camry is indeed better in almost all respects, plays in the same class, and its list of advantages is very similar. True, the price of Toyota will be almost one and a half times higher, it is “fuelled” by people’s love. There's a lot to think about, isn't there?

Would you buy your “first” Teana with mileage?

11.05.2017

Nissan Teana– a medium business class car, which has been produced from 2003 to the present. Thanks to its expressive appearance, rich equipment, good driving performance and reasonable price, Teana is one of the best-selling cars in this segment, providing worthy competition to models such as Kemri. And, here’s how things stand with the reliability of the car, and what you should pay attention to when choosing a Nissan Teana 2 with a mileage of secondary market You will find out by reading this article.

A little history:

Nissan Teana was introduced in 2002 in Japanese domestic market and is the successor to the Nissan Maxima (J30). The car is built on the platform " Nissan FF-L platform", developed specifically for front-wheel drive cars of the concern. TO serial assembly new products began in 2004 in Korea, where Teana is sold under the name “ Samsung SM5" In 2005, assembly began in Thailand. In 2006 it was introduced updated version car. Until 2006, cars were officially sold only in the markets of Asia and Europe; in Ukraine, Russia and other CIS countries, official deliveries began in 2006.

In 2008, the second generation Nissan Teana debuted in Beijing, based on the concept “ Nissan Intima" and built on the platform " Nissan D" A year later, the first car appeared on the market Russian assembly. In 2011, the first restyled version of Teana rolled off the production line. Externally, the car has remained virtually unchanged; the main changes occurred in the technical part. The release of the second generation Teana lasted until 2014. In the same year, the debut of the third generation Nissan Teana took place at the auto show in Japan, the production of which continues to this day.

Weaknesses and disadvantages of Nissan Teana 2 with mileage

The paintwork of the body is quite delicate, as a result, chips and scratches appear even from minor impacts on the paint. Most often, the hood is susceptible to chipping; because of this, on most copies it is not in its original paint. As for the quality of the body metal, it suffers considerably under our operating conditions, especially in places where there are chips. The most susceptible to corrosion are the hood, trunk lid, upper and lower edges of doors, sills and wheel arches.

On pre-restyling versions special attention require seams and trunk floor, car underbody and suspension elements ( covered with rust). Chrome body elements are not famous for their durability ( become cloudy and corroded). Also, on cars older than 6 years, the front optics begin to become cloudy ( To extend the life of the optics, just stick a protective film on it). The weak points include Windshield (quickly becomes covered with chips and scratches, cracks due to sudden temperature changes) and door handles ( When the door freezes, breaking the handle will not be difficult).

Engines

The Nissan Teana 2 was equipped only with gasoline engines – a 2.5 inline four (167 hp) and a 2.5 (182 hp) and 3.5 (249 hp) V-shaped six. All power units are quite reliable, but the V6 engines deserve the most attention, as they are considered the most successful over the last decade. The declared service life of V6 engines is 300-350 thousand km, but, as operating experience has shown, with proper maintenance and correct operation motor, without overhaul, can last up to 500,000 km. The main problems that owners face are often associated not with the power unit itself, but with its attachments. So, for example, in winter time there are problems with cold starting of the engine due to the fragility of the catalysts. There is no point in delaying the replacement of catalysts, since when they are destroyed, ceramic particles enter the cylinder and significantly reduce the service life of the piston.

One of the most problem areas is the oil pump, its resource rarely exceeds 100-120 thousand km, with untimely replacement oil problem may appear even at 60,000 km. To extend the life of the pump, it is necessary to change the oil at least once every 10-15 thousand km ( especially if the car is driven in city mode). The official service recommends installing expensive iridium spark plugs, but this makes no sense, since they do not last much longer than regular ones. Owners of cars with a 3.5 engine have to frequently change engine mounts (every 40-50 thousand km), while owners of cars with a 2.5 engine carry out this procedure once every 150-200 thousand km. These motors are equipped chain drive Timing belt, as a rule, this unit does not require intervention up to 170-200 thousand km ( Chain and tensioners need to be replaced).

The weakest power unit 2.5 is less durable than more powerful units ( resource to capital is 250-300 thousand km). Common disadvantages of this engine include the short life of the timing chains, phase shifter and oil pump; they fail after a mileage of 120-150 thousand km. Piston group at high mileage it is prone to coking, as a result, the engine begins to eat up oil.

From common features of all engines, oil leaks can be noted through the cylinder head gasket; after 120-150 thousand km, oil consumption increases ( Piston rings need replacing). Also, one should take into account the fact that the engines are not equipped with hydraulic compensators and require valve adjustment at least once every 70-90 thousand kilometers. If on idle speed The engine began to stall, and acceleration occurs jerkily; the injectors and throttle valve need to be flushed. If this does not solve the problem, you will have to reflash the engine control unit. All power units are afraid of overheating, in order to avoid big troubles, many experts recommend changing the thermostat every 50-60 thousand km ( fails at mileage up to 80,000 km) and flush the radiator 1-2 times a year. On pre-restyling models, engine sensors, lambda sensors and temperature sensors require special attention; wiring damage is also common. Radiator fans are considered one of the problem areas: both their bearings and electric drives fail, so when purchasing, be sure to check their functionality.

Transmission

Nissan Teana 2 was equipped only automatic transmissions CVT transmissions – continuously variable variator Jatco JF011E, Jatco JF016E and JF010E. You shouldn’t count on long service life for the transmission, since its service life, on average, is 150-170 thousand km; even regular replacement of branded lubricant does not help. Repairs only briefly extend the life of the transmission, therefore, many experts recommend immediately replacing the transmission. Most often, owners of post-restyling vehicles encounter CVT malfunctions. The fact is that the manufacturer introduced design changes into the box cooling system by removing one of the three radiators, as a result, under prolonged load the unit overheats. In cars on which the gearbox was overheated, when high speed engine, the transmission howls and jerks when accelerating.

The oil in the box should be changed at least once every 30,000 km, otherwise premature wear oil pump and valve body plungers is inevitable. Often, before a mileage of 100,000 km, on cars whose owners like to “light up”, it is necessary to change the belt. For all-wheel drive versions, the drive clutch is added to the number of units with a limited resource rear wheels, which can be burned through frequent ice driving or “racing” in the summer. To replace the clutch you will have to pay 600-800 USD.

Problem areas and shortcomings of the Nissan Teana 2 chassis with mileage

The Nissan Teana 2 suspension is independent, without any complex design solutions: front – MacPherson strut, rear – multi-link. If we talk about its reliability, then, despite its simplicity, a couple weak points they are still present in it. Most often, the struts and bushings of the stabilizer bother me; they need to be replaced every 20-30 thousand km. Once every 40-60 thousand km, the tie rod ends remind of themselves. At a mileage of 80-100 thousand km, more serious costs will be required, since by this time they fail ball joints, steering rods, front control arm bushings, and rear suspension arms. Shock absorbers, support and wheel bearings capable of lasting up to 150,000 km.

When operating a car, it is necessary to monitor the wheel alignment, because in Tean it regularly goes astray ( check once every 10-15 thousand km). In the steering mechanism, the power steering mechanism most often bothers. The problem is that the hose high pressure is located close to the exhaust manifold, due to overheating it begins to crack and leak ( Replacing a hose on average costs 200-250 USD.). There are also complaints about the steering rack; problems with the rack can begin at a mileage of 70-80 thousand km ( smudges and knocking appear when driving on uneven roads). The braking system is generally reliable, except on vehicles with all-wheel drive. increased wear front brake hoses.

Salon

The quality of the interior finishing materials of the Nissan Teana does not quite correspond to the class of the car. Torn driver's seat rather a rule, than an exception, and even the threads of the seams literally creep apart with a high mileage. Closer to 100,000 km, scuffs appear on the steering wheel. It is also frustrating that the steering wheel does not have reach adjustments and the monochrome display of the audio system basic configurations, the same one was installed on Opel 10 years ago. Well, the sound quality of the acoustics and noise insulation were pleasantly surprising, but still do not reach the premium level of European models. There are also problems with electrics; most often, owners complain about the failure of the power window control unit, malfunctions multimedia system, it is not uncommon for errors to occur climate system. In most cases, reflashing the units is required to fix problems. When inspecting a car with a mileage of 150,000 km or more, listen to how the motor works; if there are extraneous noises, it means it will have to be changed soon.

Result:

In addition to comfort, good driving characteristics and a presentable appearance, the Nissan Teana 2 also boasts acceptable reliability. If you compare this car with European competitors, then, in many ways it loses to brands such as Mercedes, Audi and BMW, but this is more than compensated for by the low cost of maintenance and repairs.

Advantages:

  • Comfortable suspension.
  • Spacious interior.
  • Low cost of maintenance.

Flaws:

  • Weak paintwork.
  • The quality of finishing materials does not correspond to the class of the car.
  • The only available transmission is a CVT.

If you are the owner of such a car, please share your impressions, perhaps your review will be the key when our readers choose a reliable car.

The urban mid-size sedan from the Japanese automaker appeared to the world in 2003, replacing two models - Cefiro and Laurel. Nissan Teana immediately hit home with buyers, including Russian ones. To this day, sales on the secondary market remain at good level. Over its history, the model had three births and two modernizations in the first and second generations. Already in the second incarnation, the car was transferred to business class and has, rather, an intermediate position between D and E-class. From the predecessor of the premium Nissan Maxima, a line of J codes was received, which ended in 30.

The idea of combining strict luxury, maximum comfort, power, quality, exceptional safety, attention to detail down to the smallest details and the dynamism of sports cars, has received a delightful embodiment. In addition, impeccable sound insulation, smooth ride, excellent handling, expensive finishing and a wide range of functionality are the distinctive characteristics of the Nissan Teana.

1st generation (02.2003 - 01.2008)

ATTENTION! A completely simple way to reduce fuel consumption has been found! Don't believe me? An auto mechanic with 15 years of experience also didn’t believe it until he tried it. And now he saves 35,000 rubles a year on gasoline!

The first birth of J31 cars lasted 5 years from 2003 to 2008 and was produced in Japan. For the first two years, the car was not presented in the Russian Federation. The restyled version of 2005 has officially entered Russian market in December with three engines - a 2.0 four-cylinder with 136 horses and two six-cylinder (pictured), whose volume is 2.3 liters, producing 173 hp. and 3.5 l 245 strong.

Of course, with such a mass (1456 kg), two liters is not enough, so in those years the baby got the role, for the most part, of a corporate and personal vehicle for middle managers. Power unit 3.5 is paired with a continuously variable transmission XTRONIC CVT-M6, which can be manually shifted into six fixed gears.

The other two are equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission. To summarize, we can say that the front-wheel drive five-door five-seat business sedan already received recognition at the start and gained popularity, demonstrating sales, and this is the best review.

2nd generation (February 2008 - August 2011)

Russia became the first country official sales second generation Nissan Teana – J32. The manufacturer's plans are so ambitious and adventurous that the wealth of trim levels, including all-wheel drive, is amazing. Engineers and designers did a great job, taking as a basis the unremarkable body of the first incarnation, adding beauty and elegance.

The new Nissan D platform provides improved ride quality, handling and safety. The interior has been improved in the direction of comfort and convenience - even less noise from the outside, more space above the head, on the sides and for the legs. Along with a wide selection and the availability of 4WD, the price for the E-segment is quite acceptable.

Now under the hood there is a 2.5 or 3.5 petrol V6 engine with a power of 182 and 249 hp.
In addition to the six, there is an all-wheel drive specification, which is equipped with a motor - inline four 2.5 (170 hp). All versions come with a new CVT system electronic control XTRONIC CVT transmission changes.

Changes 2nd generation (09.2011 - 02.2014)

The result of the Nissan facelift In September 2011, the J32 brought the 2nd generation 4WD car to the X-Trail's All Mode 4×4 all-wheel drive system, which added confidence on the road.

The appearance is practically the same as the front-wheel drive configuration with the addition of some design decorating solutions that add grace, nobility and sport. For Russia, assembly was organized at the Nissan plant in St. Petersburg.

3rd generation (03.2014 - 05.2016 for the Russian Federation, for Japan until 2017)

Nissan Tiana received a third birth, and in March 2014 the L33 was released. Compared to its predecessor, significant changes have taken place - everything has been brought to perfection best qualities, anticipating expectations with a margin and taking into account shortcomings. Nissan presented a chic luxury, representative car with a complex, interesting, not boring design, at a price lower than its competitors.

In the new incarnation, every line is impeccable, where everything is harmoniously combined and endowed with exceptional taste using the most modern technologies, and the sizes are brought to business standards. In addition, the L33 has the smallest turning radius in its segment - 5.7 meters.

Russian Nissan car dealers offer the buyer two familiar power plants - a 2.5 inline four with a power of 173 hp. on all trim levels and V6 3.5 with 249 horses on the top-end Premium and Premium Plus specifications. Both units have been improved in terms of gas mileage. The transmission on both units is a CVT.

What engines were installed?

By volume power plant you can judge the price of the vehicle. The higher the cubic capacity, the larger and heavier the horse. Accordingly, manufacturers strive to match the motor to the price. The higher the cost and prestige, the stronger the engine and the more liters. Thus, the cubic capacity of the Nissan Teana engine is from 2.0 to 3.5, producing from 136 to 252 hp.

Which engines are most popular?

The most popular unit in the L33 was the base 2.5 liter, because its power is 172 hp. It’s quite enough, no compromises - and the price tag is excellent and in operation the same dynamics and excellent quality, and fuel consumption is less than a 3.5-liter.

J32s are also in demand among our compatriots. There are many offers and a wide range of second-generation machines on the secondary market. The maximum choice is still among the 2.5 liters, but the more powerful 3.5 liters are also available in large quantities, which indicates the presence of demand.

As for the J31, the bulk of sales came from the 2.3 liter, along with a roughly equal choice between 2 and 3.5 liters.

Which unit to choose a car with

All Teana's six-cylinder engines are successful. It matters how, where and how long the vehicle was used. Reliable, powerful and economical VQ series 25 35. Their service life is 350 thousand km. Approximately 70% of commercial vehicles are 2.5 and 20% are 3.5 liters. Gasoline 4-cylinder two-liter QR-series - very rare, but if you find one and decide to buy it, approach your final decision very carefully and critically.

Most often, these are former corporate horses that were used “both in tail and mane”, and were serviced with the peculiarity of the Russian mentality - not my thing, don’t mind. Of course you can buy and install contract internal combustion engine. Replacing an old unit with a new one involves removing the mechanism, so do not try to do this yourself if you do not have such skills.

Features of operation in Russia

The danger to the Japanese heart is low quality gasoline. Its use immediately leads to overheating and breakdown. oxygen sensors. While driving in a traffic jam with the air conditioning running, when braking is constantly replaced by slow driving, the temperature of the internal combustion engine will begin to rise rapidly. This means that the radiator honeycombs are clogged and require urgent cleaning. For the same reason, or when refueling with fuel with a low octane number (92 instead of 95), an engine knock appears.

Driving in traffic jams and on CVTs has a bad effect. On low speeds he has to work excessively at high gear ratio, which wears out the belt and further leads to oil starvation and breakdown of the mechanism, the repair of which will cost $2,500. Don't expose yourself to spending when it can be avoided. As soon as you feel shocks, change transmission oil and filters. With adequate driving and regular oil changes, the CVTs of this model will valiantly serve 200 thousand km.

Poor quality of roads and frequent hard contact of the bumper with curbs and speed bumps breaks the plastic protection of the engine - anthers.

The internal combustion engine is tripping. Perhaps the most common malfunction of any power unit and occurs regardless of age, configuration, kilometers traveled and even condition. Triple means uneven operation of the cylinders, which in turn leads to working mixture does not burn out in the chamber, lights up with a delay or does not burn out completely. If one of the signs of a “disease” appears, you must immediately go to a mechanic for diagnosis and treatment.

  • At idle the engine jerks and shakes. Sometimes so strong that it is transmitted to the steering wheel.
  • While driving, the power drops, there are jerks during acceleration and dips when you press the gas. The check light comes on.
  • Sound from the exhaust pipe

The new “Nissan Teana” appeared in Russia

The official premiere of this model took place a little over a month ago at the Beijing Motor Show. And now the first cars have already appeared at Russian dealers. Thus, our country became the first in the world where sales of the second generation Nissan Teana began. Having carefully analyzed all the advantages and disadvantages of the old model, Japanese engineers found reserves for its improvement. The new “Teana” differs from its predecessor in its modified body design, modernized chassis, more powerful engines and a significantly redesigned interior. According to marketers, all these innovations will allow the second “Teana” to significantly strengthen its position in the market.

The first generation MODEL could well be called “Maxima”. They could, but decided not to do this, preferring to bring to market a car with a completely new name, unusual for buyers. One of the arguments in favor of such a risky marketing move was the desire to avoid confusion with the Nissan Maxima sold in the USA. The same one that, although built on a similar platform, is, in fact, a completely different machine. As far as I know, there were more arguments against it.

Another decoration of the interior is a completely new luminescent instrument panel.

There is no Asianness in the interior design; rather, on the contrary, the influence of the laconic Scandinavian style is felt.

Nevertheless, the decision, the correctness of which experts argue to this day, was made, and the model was given the original name “Teana”. Today it is clear that the risk was in vain. Sales results did not live up to expectations. Even though the Nissan team was clearly a success with the car. After the very first test drives, fellow automotive journalists generally responded quite well to the Tean. But potential buyers did not believe them and turned their attention to competitors’ models, which turned out to be more consistent and traditional in their market policies.

For some time, marketers and advertisers tried to spur interest in “Teana”, but they failed to turn the tide. The press labeled the Nissan Teana as “an excellent car, undervalued by the market,” and calmed down on that. Then, rolling up their sleeves, Nissan engineers got down to business. By the way, they have already managed to fully demonstrate their abilities when creating the first generation “Teana”.

Hidden reserves

The engine is started with a button on all versions of “Teana”, regardless of the version and equipment level.

The classic automatic transmission is no longer installed on the Teana. All modifications are equipped with the “X tronic” variator.

TO START, we carefully analyzed all the advantages and disadvantages of the old model. That’s right - upon closer examination, meticulous Japanese experts found shortcomings in the Nissan Teana. Moreover, in their opinion, they are much more serious than the somewhat controversial exterior design.

The first thing we discovered was that we could improve directional stability cars. Honestly, I don't think anyone complained about her. But once reserves are found, they must be used. The Teana front suspension was seriously shaken up, changing its mounting points and increasing longitudinal inclination shock absorber struts. By the way, mechanics of rally teams do something similar before high-speed asphalt stages. The shock absorbers themselves received additional rebound springs, designed to reduce car roll in corners.

The rolls actually became smaller, but neither the softness nor the smoothness of the ride suffered at all. I had the opportunity to personally verify this on the very far from ideal roads of the Kaliningrad region. It looks like they were last repaired before I was born. Therefore, the organizers of the test drive even included especially dangerous holes and potholes in the route legend.

However, for testing the driving performance of a car, broken asphalt is just the thing. If “Teana” is able to drive comfortably even on this... Then under normal conditions it will have no equal at all. True, to be honest, at times I was afraid of catching the bottom on the next outstanding bump. But the Nissan team reassured us that this will not happen. There is no need to worry about medium-sized bumps. The vehicle's ground clearance has been increased.

The trunk lid is equipped with external hinges that do not “eat up” the useful interior space.

The seat heating and ventilation buttons are hidden in the front and rear armrests.

A little so as not to get hurt ride quality car, only 5 mm. It would seem a trifle, but along with the increase ground clearance the designers noticeably redesigned the lower part of the car. Why did the services collect statistics - which units hanging under the bottom have typical dents and scratches? In accordance with the observations of the mechanics, the most vulnerable components were rearranged or protected in some way. Thus, the second generation model turned out to be much better adapted for use on bad roads.

Then it was the turn of the engines. The youngest two-liter engine in the line was completely abandoned. Still, almost no one bought it. In addition, marketers considered that the presence in the range four-cylinder engine harms the image of the business class model. As a result, from now on the Nissan Teana will be offered to customers only with six-cylinder engines. The base unit is a 2.5-liter V6, the volume of which, as the name suggests, has increased by 0.2 liters and the power has increased to 182 hp. The senior-ranking 3.5-liter engine (by the way, almost the same as in the legendary Nissan 350Z sports coupe) also underwent a number of modifications and began to produce 249 hp. Please note - exactly one force below the level at which the transport tax becomes completely ruinous. It's no secret that this was done on purpose.

Need I say that with increased power, both engines have become more economical? Probably not. Today, self-respecting automakers don’t have it any other way. But it must be said that both engines are optimized to run on 92-octane gasoline and were initially designed to work exclusively in conjunction with Nissan’s “X tronic” variator. There will be no other types of transmission on the Nissan Teana. At least in our market.

The second generation model is much better suited for operation in Russian conditions.

About the sphere and katana

A color display is offered only in the rich “Luxury” and “Premium” trim levels, and in the most affordable “Elegance” version it will be monochrome.

The rear view camera is only combined with a full-color screen, so it is not installed on cheap modifications.

FINALLY the turn came to the body. From the outside it looks completely new. Although in fact its power structure as a whole remained the same. Only the hinged panels and the so-called tail have changed. Well, of course, bending and torsional rigidity has increased, noise and vibration protection has improved, etc. What would it be like without all this? Today you can't. Buyers won't understand...

At the press conference, the Nissan representative speaking to us took a deep breath and began to talk about new design“Theans.” I immediately got bored. Talking about design is the same as trying to describe music in words. Still, it’s perfectly visible. As soon as you approach the car, it becomes clear that Nissan stylists tried to get away from the overly heavy rear part of the body and make the front more traditional. There is no doubt - they succeeded.

In principle, this could be the end of the exterior design. But I can’t help but cite a couple of facts that I learned from the speaker. It turns out that the new radiator grille looks like it is a fragment cut out of a huge sphere. And the new side molding resembles the blade of a traditional samurai sword - a katana. This is how the verbal melody turned out.

Well, the interior, unlike the body, has been redesigned more radically. Moreover, oddly enough, they designed it in the spirit of... Scandinavian minimalism. Clean lines, laconic forms, natural (at least externally) materials... It’s a pity that to describe all this splendor I can’t come up with an image like a giant sphere and a katana cutting through it.

The signature feature of the model is the front passenger seat with a rising footrest.

The developers of the new “Teana” traditionally paid special attention to comfort and space on back seat.

However, what can we say about a completely new dashboard and original door panels. Nissan even spent money on developing completely different seats. Starting from their internal power frame and ending with mind-blowing aerospace upholstery that can dampen vibrations transmitted from the body to the sirloin parts of the driver and passengers. Naturally, they did not sacrifice Tean’s signature “ottoman” – a rising footrest on the front passenger seat. By the way, this solution, first shown by Nissan on the first generation “Teane”, has never appeared in any of its competitors.

The level of comfort in the cabin is generally quite difficult to convey in words. But I’ll try anyway: after putting my colleague behind the wheel, I sat comfortably on the right, imposingly lounging on the “ottoman”. Introduced? So, at a speed significantly higher than 100 km/h (let’s assume that it was possible on that section of the road), I heard the ringing of my mobile phone, turned on in vibration mode and hidden in the pocket of my jacket lying in the back seat. Well, what else can I add?

The youngest two-liter engine in the range was completely abandoned, and the four-speed automatic was also abandoned...

Marketing subtleties

The signature feature of the model is the front passenger seat with a rising footrest.

And there is practically nothing to ADD. Should I once again mention infinity (in English - infinity), with which I began this material. And, I must say, it didn’t start by chance. The thing is that in terms of its consumer qualities, comfort and driving sensations, the new “Nissan Teana” is already very close to the premium segment models produced under the “Infiniti” brand.

And the point here is not at all in the power of the motors, the design of the chassis or the type of drive. Technically, these cars do not have much in common. The closest relatives or, if you like, co-platformers of “Teana” are, of course, the American “Nissan Altima” or “Maxima”. In the end even new crossover“Murano” is built on the same Nissan universal “D platform”. But according to the sensations, which I hope do not deceive me, “Teana” has become significantly closer to the “Infiniti” models. Today they are already separated by literally half a step, which Japanese engineers are not allowed to do only by the company’s marketing policy...

RETROSPECTIVE

The first “Teana” debuted on our market exactly two years ago. This model was developed by the Japanese specifically for Eastern and Asian countries, which included Russia. The base engine for the first-generation Nissan Teana was a 2-liter gasoline “four.” But she was not in demand. V6 engines of 2.3 and 3.5 liters turned out to be significantly more popular. Their power was 173 and 245 hp. respectively. Moreover flagship engine It was combined only with a CVT, and all other modifications were equipped with a four-speed automatic. “Teana” did not have a manual transmission.

COMPETITORS

“Ford Mondeo”

Its main advantage over its competitors is the presence of three body types. These are “sedan”, “hatchback” and “station wagon”. None of the competitors can offer such abundance. Another important trump card is the wide range gasoline engines power from 115 to 220 hp There are also diesels. A special feature of the “Mondeo” is the huge number of trim levels, as well as a wide range of additional equipment. The basic equipment of the model cannot boast of wealth. Compared to its analogues, Ford has a more sporty-tuned chassis.

“Toyota Camry”

The base engine is a four-cylinder. With a volume of 2.4 liters, it develops 167 hp. The 3.5-liter V6 produces 277 horsepower. Although the Camry is one of the most affordable business-class models, its standard equipment is not much inferior to premium sedans. The highlight of the equipment is the climate control system with the “Plasmacluster” system, which, by generating negative and positive ions, can stop various fungi and microbes even as they enter the cabin. The driver, by the way, can adjust the temperature in his zone without taking his hands off the wheel - also an unusual and extremely convenient function.

“Hyundai Grandeur”

It is ahead of its rivals in terms of interior space. Those sitting in the back can easily cross their legs - there is enough space. But the interior design of “Grandeur” is bland and forgettable. There are no complaints about the quality of finishing materials and assembly - everything was done to high level. The model comes with two engine options. Both V6. The base one with a volume of 2.7 liters produces 192 hp. The flagship 3.3-liter version develops 235 horsepower. Compared to competitors in similar trim levels, “Grandeur” is more expensive. That is why there is little demand for it.
