The best tires for the grant. Lada Granta: repair, operation, tuning and maintenance. Winter tires on a grant which are better. What size to choose

Many so-called experts say that for the city in winter it would be better not studded tires, but Velcro. Maybe so, but we have a lot of snow in winter, and they don't always have time to clean it, and I get out on the track quite often, so my choice will definitely be in favor of studded rubber.

So, before buying, I studied a lot of forums and looked at dozens of tests, including Auto Review and Behind the wheel, read thousands of reviews and different tires, and only after that I chose for myself the range from which I will choose winter shoes for my Lada Grants. And here is such a list for myself:

1. Continental ConticleContact - German brand

2.Nokian Hakkarelitta 7 - the legendary Finnish tire brand

3. Gislaved Nord Frost 5 - a subsidiary of Continental

4. Michelin X-Ice North XIN2 - French manufacturer

So, out of many tests, the leaders were German and Finnish manufacturers: Continental ConticleContact and Nokian Hakkarelitta 7, respectively. And they took first places not only this year, but also in previous ones. Unfortunately, I did not go to them before, which means that I don’t have my own opinion yet.

But as for the Gislavde tires, on the VAZ 2112, my previous car, I experienced them two winters in a row and, by the way, was satisfied. The only minus for me, very fat, and that they have a very weak cord. It is enough just to catch the curb once and a bump will come out on the side. But this was in the third generation of Gislaved, perhaps now this problem is no longer there.

As for Michelin, along with positive reviews there are also those in which the owners complain about poor permeability in deep snow, and for me this is very important. Now there were only two rooms, from which I had to choose my own cylinders for the winter. Here, of course, I was confused by all the tests of almost all publications that gave the first places to the Finnish Hakkapelitta 7 and I already thought that this was a competent marketing move or bribing reviews, but after I watched one video that was filmed by amateurs, I realized that Nokian is really cool winter tires.

This video shows that Kalina, shod in Finnish winter tires, is the only one who overcame this icy rise, not counting off-road vehicles. So after watching and I realized that these tires are actually worth it to be on my Lada Grant this winter without any doubt.

So, continuing with my Lada Grants, I decided that it was time to change my shoes, since the average daily temperature had long dropped below the recommended 6-7 degrees Celsius for changing shoes in Russia.

Choosing winter tires for Grants

Initially, I wanted to buy Nokian Nordman 4 studded winter tires for my Lada Granta with the manufacturer's recommended parameters 175/65 R14. The price is quite reasonable - from 1930 rubles per piece (I met up to 2500 rubles). Judging by the reviews on thematic forums, grantmakers successfully use Nokian Nordman for their cars. Moderately noisy tires, good road holding, etc. In general, high quality budget winter tires for our car. But...

By the will of fate, it so happened that having arrived at one store (having called in advance!) For Nokian, it was not available. But ... The seller in a nearby specialized store strongly advised me to pay attention to winter tires for Grants Matador MP 50 Sibir Ice with the same recommended dimensions for the set Norm - 175/65 R14. The price is comparable to the previous version.

The seller was so convincing that I took the Matador without hesitation. German quality plus excellent reviews from "live" buyers (specifically on the Grant). Continental tread pattern (one to one!), Very high-quality studding were clearly in Matador's favor. Plus, the tires are also moderately noisy with excellent traction.

Manufacturer's rubber requirements:
pressure control a couple of times a month
the first 500 km to prevent skidding-slippage (so-called running-in)
replacement at an average daily temperature of + 7 degrees
store tires on rims horizontally, without rims - vertically, turning over monthly
avoid hitting on uneven roads.

Review from the Internet about Matador MP 50 Sibir Ice:

At first, when I took it, I was tormented by doubts (just like mine). I thought that the thorns would fly out in a month, or hernias would appear. What's the bottom line? Departure the first winter like Christ in his bosom. Whether it is ice or snow, it holds the road perfectly. The tires are not noisy. After winter, all the thorns are in place (I ran it in correctly), there are no hernias. I constantly caught myself thinking that I liked the former Hacapellita (dear) less. Decent tires for normal driving.

And what about the Velcro?

As an option for operation in my region, I dismissed it right away. Although initially I read a lot of positive reviews about her, and the "neighbor" said that he even stood on the classics and had never had any problems on the road with her.

In short, I installed Matador Sibir Ice winter studded tires on my Grant. In terms of price-quality ratio, in my understanding, it surpasses its closest competitors. I put it in the service - for 900 rubles for stamped factory disks. He put on cute caps on top (see photo below).

Drove through the area. I did not notice a special (strong) difference in noise between the native all-season and the new studded one. Naturally, the spikes are a little noisier on the asphalt. I roll it in slowly. And then we will see. The purchase is still not for one season.

Mileage 2202 km. The flight is normal.

PS. Now my review :) To date, I traveled 2250+ km on this rubber. Holds the road perfectly: that icy asphalt, that snow. It is a little noisy on the asphalt, but at 140 km / h you can talk without raising your voice)). In the snow - there is no price at all. Granta herself behaves very confidently in the snow (), and on the spikes the Siberian Ice, in general, rushes like a tank.

Lada Granta: repair, operation, tuning and maintenance. Winter tires for a grant which is better

Winter tires, which is better to choose ??

So Winter is coming on its heels and all many Grant holders are wondering whether to leave all-season tires or "change shoes" to winter ones - it depends on the region in which Lada Granta travels, and on how intensive the trips will be and on what roads.

For winter, it is better to use winter "shoes". At the same time, studded tires from Goodyear, Pirelli, Michelin X-Ice are indispensable on poorly cleaned roads and in winter with frequent thaws and frosts, as well as if you have to drive mainly on packed snow. For residents of large cities who use the Lada Granta only for commuting, ordinary winter tires from such well-known companies as Hankook Goodyear, Cordiant, Continental, etc.

Winter tires need to be soft in the contact area (for good grip) and stiffness at the base of the tread for precise handling. These properties are possessed by new models that entered the Russian market:

1. Goodyear UltraGrip Ice Arctic, UltraGrip 8 Performance, choice of sizes for Lada Grants: landing diameter from R13 to R17, width from 175 to 225 mm.

2. Pirelli sizes from 13 to 20 inches.

3. Continental offers ContiWinterContact studless tires in sizes ranging from 15 to 16 inches.

4. Dynlop Winter, choice of size for Lada Grants: landing diameter R13 -16, profile width 155

5. Yokohama offers iceGuard friction tires, we only offer tires in 15, 16 and 18 inches, but in the near future the size range will expand from 12 to 19 inches.

6. Hankook friction winter tire Winter i * cept tires will be sold in common sizes from 14 to 16 inches.

7. Cordiant Winter Drive comes in popular sizes: 175 / 70R13, 175 / 65R14, 185 / 60R14, 185 / 65R15, 195 / 65R15, 205 / 55R16, 205 / 60R16, 215 / 65R16 So that winter studded tires are good, all studs must have the same height.

In order for the studded tires to last a long time, it is important for you to roll them in correctly so that the studs settle in their seats.

The first 500 km should be driven without overload, do not skid, do not brake sharply and take turns in an easy mode. You should be especially careful with the spikes when driving on dry asphalt and across tram tracks and curbs.

When buying winter tires, you should not forget that tires are punctured more often in winter than in summer, and you cannot do without a winter spare tire.

For owners of a car brand such as Lada Grant, with the arrival of winter, there is a problem with the right choice of winter tires.

Everyone knows that it is better to choose winter tires early, so that the choice is deliberate and balanced. So that during each season they do not stand in long queues for a tire changer, it is necessary to buy additional wheels, and as a result, time will not be wasted in the queue and it will be possible to change wheels on your own, which ultimately will help to save money. it is not necessary to install tires with spikes on the roads, but it is better to install Velcro tires. But with this choice, it is worth considering how often the roads are cleaned from snow drifts, and the tracks are cleaned even less often, and in such an environment it is better to opt for rubber with spikes. car owners for various brands of winter tires.

After examining all the data, you can come to a conclusion and make a list of the most common and frequently used brands of winter tires for Lada Grant. One can mention such a German brand as Continental ConticleContact, among the Finnish brands a brand called Nokian Hakkarelitta 7 stands out. Even more in demand is such a tire brand as Gislavde Nord Frost 5, this brand is produced by a subsidiary of Continental. A commonly used company is a French company that manufactures a tire brand such as the Michelin X-Ice North XIN2.

From time to time, tests are carried out in which different brands of tires are compared, and mainly the German and Finnish manufacturers are leading in these tests. So it's safe to say that the best of the above brands are Nokian Hakkarelitta 7 and Continental ConticleContact. It is safe to say that the manufacturers of these brands of tires have held a leading position in the past years. Tires under the Gislavde brand are considered good tires, but they also note such a disadvantage as weak cord. If the wheel hits the curb, a bump will immediately appear on the tire. Michelin tires also have their positive and negative sides. The negative side can be attributed to poor cross-country ability in deep snow and, accordingly, if you have to drive in such an area where there is always a lot of snow, then you should not choose these tires.

Tires and wheels on the fret of the grant: how and which ones to choose?

So, I will say right away that the information described below has a place to be exclusively my own opinion, because the article has been assigned the author's rank. The author is me, Kirill Sinich. I have owned a Lada Granta car for about six months and when buying, of course, I needed a choice of both tires and disks, because what comes from the factory is more than horrible.

So, let's proceed to the selection of disks. Discs are stamped (the cheapest), cast (average in price and very diverse in assortment) and forged - the most expensive of the above. So, if you are absolutely not an auto gourmet, then you can safely take for yourself the usual stampings on the 14th radius and cheerfully start driving. These discs have no particular drawbacks, except for their extremely dull appearance. The appearance of the car does not really matter to you - stamped discs are for you! If you want a more interesting disc shape than stamped holes - this is casting. Almost any disc shape can be made by casting, which is why the way your car looks will be limited solely by the imagination of the designer who comes up with the wheel disc. In the modern world, dozens of types of casting can be found in car dealerships.

Of course, they all differ in composition, appearance, weight and price. Personally, I do not recommend buying discs that are too light or that have too much space between the spokes. The thinner the knitting needles and the smaller the distance between them, the greater the likelihood of their breakage. In addition, a heavier disc can row better in winter, it has been verified by personal experience, and the sparse spokes in the disc are unlikely to give the latter a decent mass. All other parameters, such as color, geometry of the arrangement of the spokes, their length, will in no way affect the driving properties of the car. Disk crash is another matter. Here you should adhere to the standard parameters of your car. Offset discs put a load on the wheel bearings, thereby quickly causing them to fail. As for forged wheels, they are usually slightly larger in weight and, most importantly, have greater rigidity compared to alloy wheels. They are more protected against shock loads and have a service life longer than that of cast and forged discs. However, forging does not allow such a huge variety of shapes to be made of metal, therefore, the choice of forged wheels is often less than cast. They are also distinguished by their higher price compared to other drives, but I think that in most cases it does not justify itself. A little bit about the radius: the radius of the disk determines its size. Wheels with a radius of 14 go to the grant as standard, and I strongly advise against increasing it. The increased radius usually has a negative impact on the vehicle's handling and performance. And the increase in the radius does not give any aesthetic component.

Now for the tires for grants. Summer standard tires that come from the factory are quite tolerable. At speeds above a hundred, it behaves quite stable, the grip is satisfactory. Therefore, it is worth thinking about replacing it in a few years - when the resource of summer tires comes to an end. Winter ones, however, must be purchased immediately before the first winter, and here in the tire outlets our eyes are presented with a great selection of studded and non-studded rubber. The first advice is not to rush and not buy what the managers of tire supermarkets are very fond of advising. As a rule, in 99% of cases, they are guided by their own interests, and do not want to make your car operation safer, while saving your budget as much as possible. First, let's deal with one of the most pressing issues of humanity:

What to choose for grants: Velcro or spikes?

In fact, if you are looking for a clear and definite answer for yourself, you will not find it here either. It does not exist in nature at all. The choice between thorns and Velcro follows the following principle: if there is more ice in your settlement in winter than asphalt and snow slurry, then your choice is in favor of thorns. However, in most of the territory of Russia, the roads are deliciously fertilized with reagents and there is no ice on them. And on such asphalt, Velcro tires will show the best characteristics of handling, braking and acceleration. Why are they bad? It's actually not hard to guess. On any climb, well-flavored with morning ice, these tires can be useless - you simply cannot climb it. Spikes provide clear advantages in this respect. But they lose on the asphalt with reagents and snow porridge. So what to choose: a little better handling on asphalt roads and the inability to climb even a simple icy hill, or a little less stable handling, but confidence in conquering any ice obstacles? In my opinion, the answer is obvious. Handling in winter does not show itself so, because any adequate driver does not make sharp maneuvers and easily controls the car on any rubber, whether it is rubber with spikes or Velcro. But only thorns often help to climb onto the ice surface, digging into the ice and preventing excessive slippage. But in any case, the choice is yours.

Now a few words about choosing a brand of winter tires for a grant. Personally, I have driven four brands of automobile winter tires in my life. I will list them: Nokian Nordman4, Pirelli, Nokian Hakkapeliitta5 and Gislaved Nord Frost5. In fact, the listed brands are one of the most common in stores, which means they are used by motorists. Therefore, you can safely take one of these brands and be sure that in winter they will not let you down. But each of them has a number of features. The quietest brand of the presented - Gislaved Nord Frost 5. The noise is so insignificant that you get used to it in the first 10 minutes of driving. Pirelli are excellent at rowing in the snow. Easily drove her out of the snowdrifts. The Nokian Hakkapeliitta 5 is distinguished by its flawless grip on almost any surface, the Nokian Nordman 4 did not stand out from all four, and in my subjective rating it quietly rests in fourth place. What brand of tires to choose for you - decide on the basis of the tasks that you are going to solve on the car. If your credo is the track, I recommend Hakkapelita, but if you spend 90% in the city - Gislaved 5 or Pirelli, if you want to save on a couple of sausage sandwiches - take Nordman. And good luck on the road, be careful in winter!

Granta is a relatively new front-wheel drive car, developed by VAZ on the basis of Kalina, and launched into production in 2011. Since that time, along with sedan-type models, Lada Granta liftback has also been produced. The body change did not affect the tire dimension, unlike the Sedan Sport modification.

We suggest that you familiarize yourself with the parameters of the tires used on these cars, as well as present a small selection of models for winter and summer.

Basic tire sizes

In principle, to find out what size of tires you can put on Lada Granta, just look in the passport or on the plate on the inside of the car door.

Nevertheless, we present to your attention a list of parameters that the manufacturer declares using the example of modifications made in 2018:

Tire pressure

We found out which tires fit on the Lada Granta - now we will deal with the pressure. A lot depends on him during the operation of tires, the purchase of which is one of the sources of consumption for any car owner. The pressure must be constantly monitored so that the tires do not wear out too quickly.

Premature wear occurs when there is a lack of pressure, but pumping is fraught with consequences.

  • If the pressure is regularly underestimated by 0.5 atm less than the norm for a 14th radius of 1.9 atm in front, and 2.0 atm at the rear, the tires will last 4 times less - plus fuel consumption increases.
  • With an even greater lack of pressure, the car can lose control, and the braking distance increases.
  • If you drive on semi-flat tires for a long time, and then inflate them, the tire can simply explode.

Therefore, you need to have a pressure gauge on hand, take measurements from time to time (especially in winter), and if you need to pump up the wheels. The front and rear pair of tires must have the same pressure.

Specific figures depend on the size of the wheels. Take, for example, the 195/50 profile, which is one of the replacement options for the LADA Sedan Sport. If this is a radius of 15, then the optimal pressure is 2.3 atm, and in the 16th radius you need to pump 2.4 atm.

Selection of tires by model

Knowing the size of the "shoe", it remains only to choose the style. Any car must have two sets of tires: winter and summer. Winter tires are installed without waiting for frost, but when the thermometer regularly drops below +5 degrees.

To save money on buying winter tires, some drivers make the wrong decision to drive an all-season. Therefore, we will make a small digression and explain why it is not necessary to do this.

When and what kind of rubber is needed for the car

We must say right away that there are no tires that would behave stably in any conditions. Why, then, is the tire called an all-season tire? Because of the tread, which must have a deep relief and grooves through which water, mud, and snow can easily pass.

All-season rubber is called a rubber that is comfortable to ride in the off-season when the air temperature varies from +7 to -10 degrees. It is often labeled M + S (mud / snow), which is confusing to many.

But in fact, an all-season tire is a summer tire, and is not suitable for year-round driving even in the southern regions of the country.

  • All mud tires, and all winter ones, have an all-season tread. The only difference is in the composition of the rubber, which is designed for positive or negative operation of the wheels. On a winter tire, for better grip on an icy road, many thread-like sipes are made, which distinguishes it from an all-season tire.
  • Non-studded winter tire is popularly called Velcro. On such rubber, the car feels great on ice, but when there is a stable positive temperature outside (above + 6-7 degrees), it must be changed to summer.
  • Winter tires are much softer, so if you try to ride them in the summer, they will wear out quickly. Studded tires are better suited for driving on snow, therefore, when in winter you have to drive not on cleaned asphalt, but on a country road, it is better to give preference to studs.
  • All year round, mostly trucks, buses, whose wheels change is a time-consuming process, and, in addition, there are usually more than four of them. True, in severe frosts and snowfalls, they are not at all sweet on such rubber.

And one more important factor - for those who spend a lot of time behind the wheel. A tire for winter use is much softer than a summer tire, but it also makes noise when driving, especially a studded tire.

Summer, and it is all-season, in severe frost "dubs" and directly thunders. And this is not to mention the fact that on the ice you will not so much ride on it as perform figure skating.

Winter tires on Lada Granta

Now let's see which winter tires to choose for Lada Grant:

A relatively new model, developed by the German Continental together with Italian engineers, and launched into production at the facilities of the Nizhnekamsk Tire Plant.

The asymmetrical tread pattern, the combination of the middle blocks with rows of spikes along the edges and the variable sidewall stiffness technology ensure safe driving, stability when cornering and crossing uneven roads.

Winter tires from the Japanese Toyo are deservedly considered one of the best. If earlier only sellers and those who drove it knew about this, then not so long ago, the test carried out at the test site left no doubts.

The Observe Garit G3-Ice tires competed with the Finnish Hakkapeliitta-7, yielding slightly in snowy areas and pulling ahead on the rolled track. Experts believe that the whole thing is in the spikes that protrude beyond the surface of the tire by 1.2 mm more than the norm.

Another novelty. Atypical tread pattern - like all Goodyear models. Looking at it, one gets the impression that the one-piece wheel is simply cut with grooves. They provide the tire with excellent handling in loose snow.

Another distinctive feature is the hexagon-shaped studs, which enable quick acceleration and safe braking.

Winter studded tires of different generations from the Korean manufacturer Hankook have long established themselves as an excellent combination of price and quality. The last model has been slightly redesigned, the shape of some of the tread elements has changed slightly, although the symmetry of the pattern and directionality have been preserved.

Bulky blocks on the sides have replaced narrow ribs and the tire has improved performance in icy conditions.

The best models for summer

Now let's introduce some decent summer models:

The tread of this Japanese tire is developed using a new technology (NANO-PROTECH), which has reduced the coefficient of resistance to rotation, and as a result, save fuel consumption. Plus, the EP150 is lighter in weight and virtually silent.

Another Japanese tire manufactured in Malaysia. Very soft rubber, perfectly balancing and braking, thanks to the deep tread, self-cleaning from dirt and snow. With all this, the most pleasant thing is the low price.

Serbian Kormoran is developed with Michelin technology. The tire is stable when driving at speed, does not "float" in a puddle, adheres well to the road and is controlled when cornering.

Matador MP 47 Hectorra

The new generation MP-47 Hectorra summer tire from Slovenia performs well both on dry and wet surfaces thanks to its asymmetric pattern with four deep longitudinal grooves.

The tread elements are optimized to the maximum, which improves the efforts during acceleration and braking, and reduces the noise level.

Conclusion

What are the best winter tires for the car, or what to change it into for the summer, it is, of course, for the owner to decide. It all depends on what climatic zone you have to use the car, on what roads to drive. And our information is designed to understand the characteristics of certain models and the appropriateness of their use.

Lada Granta is a low-cost mass car produced by the Volga Automobile Plant on the basis of Lada Kalina.

This car has gained great popularity among the citizens of Russia and the CIS countries. In view of its relevance, the issue of replacing winter tires on the "Grant" is urgent.

The safety of all road users, as well as the comfort of the driver and passengers while driving, depends on correctly selected winter tires.

This article will consider the features and main characteristics of winter tires for the Lada Granta car, describe the rules for choosing winter tires for the Granta liftback and its other modifications.

Rubber on "Grant"

When choosing winter tires for a Lada Granta car, you need to know exactly what modification of this car the rubber is selected for. The first generation Lada Granta began production in May 2011 in a sedan body in several trim levels. At the same time, Lada Granta Sport was presented. In May 2015, the production of Lada Granta Liftback began.

The release of the first generation "Grants" was completed in 2018. In 2019, the mass production of the second generation Lada Granta car started in two bodies: a sedan and a liftback, in several configurations.

The in-house designation of the Lada Granta sedan is VAZ 2190, the Lada Granda liftback is VAZ 2191.

Specifications

Any car tire has a number of characteristics that must be taken into account in order to choose the right rubber for your car.

The first important characteristic of rubber is dimension. Tire dimension parameters for the example of 175/65 R14 marking:

  • 175 is the width of the tire, measured in millimeters.
  • 65 is the profile height, measured as a percentage of the rubber width.
  • R - says that the tire is radial (from the English word radial), but definitely not that the radius designation follows, as many people think. The wheels have no radius, only the diameter. The radiality of a tire is a type of tire construction. There is also a bias tire.
  • 14 - tire diameter in inches. To convert this indicator into the usual centimeters, you need to multiply the inch value by 2.54.

Tire size

The second important characteristic of any tire is the maximum mass and speed index. It is most often recommended to install 82 H tires on Grant cars. This marking indicates that this tire is capable of withstanding a load of up to 475 kg and works effectively at a speed of up to 210 km / h.

Note!

The maximum load parameter is indicated for one tire. Therefore, for a set of 4 tires, the maximum load in this case will be 1 ton 900 kg. Taking into account that the average gross weight of "Grants" is 1.5 tons, the load on the tire is calculated with a good margin.

Next, you need to pay attention to the presence of thorns. Many versions of winter tires are produced without studding at all. Some have rare thorns. Each manufacturer strives to come up with a new, improved type of stud. They differ in shape, size and material from which they are made. Their main purpose is to pierce the ice for better starting and braking on icy surfaces.

Additional Information!

In many countries, including Russia, there is a legal restriction on too many studs on a tire. This is due to the fact that the spikes damage the asphalt surface.

The next important factor is the depth of the tread pattern and the pattern itself. The high-quality grip of the wheels with the road surface depends on the tread. The more technologically advanced the pattern on the rubber is, the better the tire's characteristics of noise, drainage and reliability.

In addition, there are many other characteristics. In general, the better the quality of the tire, the more reliable and stable ride it will provide.

In addition, low-quality cheap tires can also wear out extremely quickly and lose studs, so such savings are not always appropriate.

In addition, powerful tires that perform well in the countryside can wear out when driving on a clean highway. On the contrary, tires designed for everyday city driving may not cope even with light off-road conditions.
