Wv polos say they don't produce them. Used VW Polo Sedan: what you need to know when buying. Polo Sedan made for Russia or not

We will talk about the shortcomings of the Volkswagen Polo sedan, a very popular car in Russia, which belongs to the class budget foreign cars. Since the start of production in 2009, it has consistently high sales figures to this day. The Polo sedan is produced in Russia, in the city of Kaluga; there is no such model in Europe. The main competitors of the Polo sedan on the Russian market are: Kia Rio And Hyundai Solaris.

The disadvantages of the Volkswagen Polo sedan are not visible at first glance, for example, in a car showroom, and it seems that this is a real German car that is accessible to many. But this particular model has its own characteristics, which you need to dwell on in more detail and figure out what kind of car it is.

The history of the Polo sedan

The history of the appearance of this model is that the German automaker VAG decided to conquer the automobile market in the budget car class, including in the Russian Federation. At the beginning of the project, it was assumed that the price of the model would be slightly higher than that of domestic VAZs and lower than that of other foreign cars, for example Toyota, Ford, Pegeout, etc.

This car was not designed from scratch; the Polo Hatchback, popular in Europe, was taken as a basis. Volkswagen representatives decided that it would be better for the Russian market to produce a sedan car.

Since when importing new cars into the Russian Federation it is necessary to pay considerable state duties, which would significantly increase the price of the car in the showroom, it was decided to set up production in Russia, in the city of Kaluga.

Disadvantages of Volkswagen Polo Sedan

Usually Volkswagen company goal to do quality car. But the main goal of the Germans regarding the Polo sedan was not just to make an affordable car, but also to make it cheaper than the Koreans, so during production they saved on everything possible.

The Polo Sedan will be compared with the Polo Hatchback, because these are the same cars, but only at first glance. Let's take a closer look at the shortcomings of the sedan:

  • Body flaws
If we supply the steel from which Volkswagen bodies are made in Germany to our country, it will turn out to be too expensive, which is not necessary for this model. That's why the body of the Polo sedan is made of iron Russian made, from the same as our VAZs.

As small test You can put two cars next to each other, the Polo Hatchback (assembled exclusively in Europe) and the Polo Sedan, and simply check the body elements for rigidity with your hands. In a sedan, the metal will “play” much more strongly. Even those areas that should not be wrinkled in principle will become wrinkled, for example, the junction of the front wing and the roof pillar. The Hatchback does not have such problems.

  • As a result of savings on body materials, we can say that safety has also suffered.
Polo Hatchback scores the maximum 5 stars according to the EuroNCAP crash test results. The Polo Sedan also scores 5 stars, but based on the results of a Russian crash test. And, as you know, safety assessments are much stricter in Europe. It is worth noting that no one has conducted a European crash test of the Polo sedan.
  • Disadvantages of paintwork
It is a well-known practice that when purchasing a new Volkswagen car at a car dealership, you have to pay extra for the metallic color. So, when buying a Polo sedan there is no such practice. There is none, because when painting a sedan, the same class of paint is used as on AvtoVAZ and other domestic automobile factories. This is all done with the same goal of reducing the final cost. Due to such savings, on the body in short time chips and scratches appear, which, despite the same period of use, will not appear on the Polo Hatchback.
  • The braking system is also worth mentioning.
In the Polo Sedan, with its 105 hp. standing behind drum brakes. With such weight and such power, it is not the most reasonable solution, but quite economical. By the way, the same Hatchback disc brakes in a circle in all versions, with the exception of the cheapest configuration with a 60-horsepower power unit.
  • Engine disadvantages

The most popular engine in the Polo sedan in the Russian Federation has a volume of 1.6 liters, 16 valves and a power of 105 hp. The engine was also not left without attention. This is not the famous German engine, which is famous for its reliability. In order to save money, we made some changes to the model. Firstly, this engine has a different marking - CFNA, which already indicates that this is not “that” German engine. The difference is that the manufacturer removed the gas distribution system, thanks to which the torque plateau was higher and smoother. A person who drives a Polo hatchback, getting into a Polo sedan, immediately notices that the engine is sluggish and not so dynamic. Also often with a mileage of more than 50 thousand km. There are extraneous noises in the engine, which are not present with the same mileage in the Hatchback.

  • Disadvantages of the interior
At first glance, the interior is the same as that of the European, but not everything is so simple. The plastic used in the interior is cheaper and correspondingly hard. Tactile sensations do not cause any delight. In addition, the interior plastic is not particularly resistant to scratches, this is clearly visible after 2-3 years of use. The owner of the Hatchback will immediately feel that they saved money on the interior of the sedan.

Conclusions about the model Volkswagen Polo Sedan

As you can see, the Polo sedan is a significantly cheaper copy of the Polo hatchback, but the manufacturer positions it as two identical cars that differ only in body type. People who want the vaunted “German” quality are unlikely to find it in the Polo sedan. This more like a car, which has Volkswagen roots, which allowed people to get greater comfort than domestic auto industry, with a relatively small markup.

But you can’t argue with the statistics; it sells well and has its fans. And it's all about the price. The Volkswagen Polo sedan, despite its shortcomings, is not the best bad car for this money, people often choose it over the Kia Rio or Hyundai Solaris, which are in the same price category. In terms of price, this is the next step after AvtoVAZ, and in terms of comfort it is much higher.

Used VW Polo Sedan:what you need to know when buying

The opening of a plant for the production of VW Polo Sedan in Kaluga refuted the speculation that in Russia they do not know how to assemble cars of German quality. After nearly eight years of production, this compact sedan became a real hit in both the primary and secondary markets. A technical expert from the online service for booking a car for maintenance and repair at a fixed price, CarFix, tells you what to look for when buying a used Polo Sedan.

MODEL HISTORY

The history of Polo began in 1975, when the first car of this model rolled off the assembly line in Wolfsburg, Germany. In 2003, the Polo Sedan appeared - its assembly began in Brazil, and seven years later the VW Polo Sedan new platform A05 (PQ25) rolled off the assembly line at the plant in Kaluga. Actually, it was the first German car produced in Russia in a full cycle - with welding and painting of the body, and also specially adapted for our country. Engineers took into account climatic operating conditions, road conditions and fuel quality.

VW Polo Sedan prototypes were tested long-term tests in various parts of Russia. As a result, the car received reinforced suspension, shock absorbers and springs, and the economical 1.6-liter CFNA engine was tuned for fuel of a lower quality compared to Europe. The body is galvanized in areas most susceptible to corrosion. By the way, the body is one of the main advantages of a used Polo Sedan over its competitors.

Thanks to the understandable Russian consumer characteristics, as well as relatively low cost with decent quality, "Polo Sedan" is very popular in the secondary market. Used cars before restyling (2010 - 2015 production) cost from 250,000 to 640,000 rubles - depending on the year, mileage and modification. Restyled sedans (from 2015 and younger) can be purchased at prices starting from 560,000 rubles. At the same time, dealers offer new cars at comparable prices.

When looking at a used Polo sedan, it is worth comparing its price with a similar new car. These cars become cheaper slowly; on average, in the first year the price can drop by only 15% with a mileage of up to 30,000 km. When buying, do not hesitate to lower the price: there are a huge number of used VW Polo Sedan - if the seller of the car you like turns out to be intractable, finding another one will not be a problem.

MODIFICATIONS

After restyling appearance The VW Polo Sedan has become more solid, its front and rear rear bumpers, radiator grille. New lighting technology has appeared - bi-xenon headlights and LED daytime running lights running lights, the function of turning illumination with fog lights has been added. New interior color options became available to consumers, and an opening button appeared on the trunk lid - previously it could only be unlocked with a key or from inside the trunk. By the way, in February 2016, German engineers expanded winter package. They began to install higher-capacity batteries and a more powerful starter on cars: this made it possible to start the car at temperatures down to -36 degrees. Also in the restyled version, the range of engines has expanded.

ENGINES

From 2010 to 2015, the VW Polo Sedan was equipped with a 1.6-liter CFNA naturally-aspirated engine producing 105 hp. In 2014, its 85-horsepower modification CFNB appeared, which allowed car owners to pay less tax. However, motorists discovered serious design defects in both versions of the CFN 1.6 engine. And this despite the fact that the units were supplied from the German Chemnitz plant.

The main problem with CFN 1.6 engines is the knocking of the pistons on the cylinder walls when cold. In the first minutes after starting the engine, a tinkling sound is heard. As the piston warms up, it expands and the sound disappears. However, over time, the disease progresses, and the knocking persists even in a warm car. The very fact of the piston hitting the cylinder wall is a sign of the beginning of engine destruction. The knocking occurs in top dead point when transferring the pistons. The graphite coating of the piston skirts wears down to metal and begins to destroy the cylinder walls at friction points. Officially, the Volkswagen group does not disclose the cause of the defect, but judging by fragmentary explanations from engineers, the problem lies in the poor design of the pistons. According to another version, an insufficient amount of oil enters the combustion chamber.

According to unofficial data, approximately half of CFN engines begin to knock at mileages from 30,000 to 100,000 km. However, the defect may appear earlier. Despite the complaints, the Volkswagen concern did not announce a recall, offering replacement pistons for warranty vehicles. Since the warranty for the unit is five years, the last Polo Sedan with such an engine will end in November 2020, so some car owners still have a chance to deal with the breakdown for free. Service centers replace standard 76.460 EM pistons with modified 76.480 ET. They have slightly changed geometry and reduced weight.

The cost of the pistons is about 50,000 rubles, and replacing them will cost another 40,000 rubles. That is, without a warranty, you will have to pay about 20% of the cost of a used car for repairs. At the same time, practice shows that after several thousand kilometers, knocking appears even after engine repair. Thus, the engine service life of 200 thousand km declared by the Volkswagen group is doubtful. Many motorists, having heard a knock, try to sell their car quickly. Indeed, in the worst case scenario, you will have to change the engine completely. The cost of the new unit will be about 350,000 rubles, and replacement work will cost 30,000 rubles - this is more than half the cost of the machine.

Pistons are not the only problem with CFN engines. By 100,000 km, the timing chain stretches and begins to rattle, although it should last at least 150,000 km. The result is noise diesel engine under the hood. Therefore, when buying a used car with such mileage, it is better to change the chain. The cost of the chain is 3,500 rubles; replacing it at car services will cost 30,000 rubles. Another problem with CFN engines is a crack in the exhaust manifold, which causes the car to “growl” loudly. Price exhaust manifold– 45,000 rubles, replacement will cost 8,000 rubles. The most common problem with CFN units is a knocking sound when driving over bumps. As a rule, it is associated with a malfunction of the left engine mount. The price of this part is 5,500 rubles, and the cost of replacement work is 4,000 rubles.

After 2015, new CWV 1.6 engines, produced in Russia, began to be installed on the Polo Sedan. Motor CWVA produces power of 110 hp, and CWVB is software “tamed” to 90 hp. – to save the buyer on taxes. The engines did not adopt the “piston disease”, as did the problems with the timing belt (they were eliminated as a result of refinement of the design). After the 2015 restalling, the Polo Sedan was equipped with turbocharged CZCA engines of the TSI family with a volume of 1.4 liters and a power of 125 hp. This engine may begin to have problems with the turbine after a mileage of about 100,000 km. However, the turbine can last up to 150,000 km, so it is recommended to check its condition before purchasing at a service station. In any case, all engines manufactured after 2015 must be under warranty.

TRANSMISSION

An equally important problem with used VW Polo Sedan is the gearbox. Least problems with manual transmission: everything should be fine there, if the previous owner did not abuse the clutch. TO automatic transmission Questions also rarely arise, although, according to many car owners, it changes gears too quickly and the car accelerates slowly. The biggest and common problems happen with the DSG robotic gearbox, which is installed on 1.4 TSI engines. The manufacturer guarantees the operation of the box for 5 years, and there is a chance that it can be repaired at the dealer’s expense, but it is better to clarify this issue before purchasing a used car. The most unpleasant thing is that before a breakdown, the box may not show any signs of malfunction at all and the problem will arise completely unexpectedly. To extend the life of the DSG, auto mechanics recommend long-term parking At a traffic light, switch from “drive” to “neutral”.

CHASSIS

Sedan suspension Kaluga assembly It is quite reliable, but from time to time it also causes complaints. At a mileage of 70,000 km, it is recommended to replace the silent blocks of the front control arms. Their price is about 2800 rubles, the cost of replacement is 3500 rubles. A characteristic creaking sound in the front part of the suspension signals that it’s time to change them.

The rear semi-independent lever-spring suspension is also not without its drawbacks. The bases are too low rear shock absorbers. As a result, if the car is heavily loaded, the shock absorbers can work before the bump stops on uneven roads. Shock absorbers quickly fail even without overload. Motorists complain that 90% wear is already recorded after a mileage of 40,000 km. Front and rear cost shock absorber struts– 9000 and 4500 rubles respectively. Replacing them will cost 2,800 rubles. On pre-restyling cars (produced from 2010 to 2015), a knocking sound from plastic boots may appear. After 2015, rubber anthers began to be installed. The stabilizer bushings also require constant replacement - they begin to creak in any weather. If the car is under warranty, in this case it is better to contact official dealer. In services, the cost of work will be 2,500 rubles, and the price of bushings will be 500 rubles. Another “disease” of Polo sedans is the stabilizer struts. They characteristically begin to knock when driving over small irregularities. At the same time, non-original racks can last longer than the originals, which often last only a few thousand kilometers. The price of stabilizer struts is 3000 rubles. The cost of replacement is 1500 rubles.

Also, the weak point of the Polo Sedan is the steering rack, and computer diagnostics is not always able to identify this malfunction. To diagnose the car yourself, you need to turn the steering wheel all the way and start driving. If a strange sound appears, similar to tapping, it is most likely time to change the part. On average, racks last 60,000–70,000 km, but it happens that they fail at 10,000 km. Under warranty, the dealer will replace the rack, but if you repair the car yourself, it will cost 15,000 - 30,000 rubles.

BODY

Thanks to double-sided galvanic galvanization, the body of the Polo sedan is practically not subject to corrosion. However paintwork it is still not protected from chips that form when stones hit it. Many motorists cover areas prone to chipping with film.

SALON

There are problems with armrests in the car interior - due to ill-conceived design, they quickly break. If you discover a breakdown before purchasing the car, you can negotiate a small discount. But high-quality plastic is used in the finishing and does not peel off during use. One of the common complaints is the slow heating of the interior. In frosts of -20 degrees, you can wait up to half an hour until it becomes warm inside the car. Often the problem is related to air lock in the engine cooling system. Repairing the system will cost 4,000 rubles.

ELECTRICAL

There are few complaints about the Polo Sedan's electrics - for example, the power windows periodically stop working. It is extremely difficult to solve the problem under warranty, because upon arrival at the dealer the car begins to behave decently, and the fault does not show itself. Repairing the window lift mechanism will cost 3,500 rubles. There are also problems with the electric power steering. They are accompanied by crunching and creaking sounds. Repairing the EUR will cost 7,000 rubles.

VERDICT

Try to find a Polo Sedan with a CWV 1.6 engine. On pre-restyling versions, pay attention to noises - perhaps it’s time to change the timing chain or pistons (which is much worse). If you like the version with a 1.4-liter engine, carefully check the turbine and gearbox. If the DSG shows signs of illness, shifts for a long time or with jerks, or begins to vibrate when moving away, it is better to refuse the purchase.

We list the “sores” of the most affordable Volkswagen model in our country, and at the same time advise how to buy this bestseller Russian market and not make a mistake with the choice.

People'ssedan

The four-door Volkswagen Polo, popularly nicknamed the “semi-sedan”, may not be iconic or legendary, but extremely important model for a German automaker in our country. This compact car, produced in Kaluga using technology full cycle, including stamping, welding, painting and assembly, became the most affordable and therefore best-selling Volkswagen in Russia.

Over 7 years, more than 400,000 of these four-doors were produced in Kaluga. And now a huge number of them are offered on the secondary market at very attractive and sometimes even ridiculous prices. We decided to figure out whether the Polo Sedan is so reliable as it ages, and how to choose a good option, without regretting it later.

The key to success

The Kaluga sedan Polo became, in fact, Volkswagen’s response to the cheap Renault Logan, assembled in Moscow (then still at Avtoframos) since 2005. By releasing this model on our market, the French showed that to be successful in Russia, a car does not need super-high quality, bells and whistles, and premium class. Enough spacious interior, spacious trunk, as well as a reliable design. And all this at a low price. It was then that the Germans followed the path they had already used before, creating cheaper models for the markets of developing countries.

Taking the fifth generation of the Polo hatchback as a basis, the Germans stretched its base and added a trunk at the back. With various adaptations, the sedan was introduced to the markets of India (as Vento) and Russia (as Polo Sedan). Our version received a 105-horsepower naturally aspirated “four” 1.6 MPI and rear suspension from the fourth generation Golf with a choice of manual or automatic Aisin. The same engine was installed on the Fabia and Roomster. In 2014, an 85-horsepower version of the same 1.6 engine appeared, derated by changing the settings of the control electronics, with a more favorable tax rate.

In 2015, the sedan underwent restyling. It was given a “facelift” in the style of the concern’s older models, the ground clearance was increased by 15 mm, sound insulation was improved, a steering wheel with a new design was installed, parking sensors and electric folding mirrors were installed. They also replaced the 2-year warranty without mileage limitation, which was easy for taxi drivers, with a 3-year or 100,000 km warranty. In the same year, the sedan received a new Russian-assembled 1.6 aspirated engine with a power of 90 and 110 horsepower, like the Rapid. And in 2016 it came out Polo version GT with a 125-horsepower 1.4 TSI with manual or 7-speed DSG robot.

No alternatives

Volkswagen Polo is now sold in Russia with a single body type. However, buyers of this model still have at least some choice. Namely: two versions of the 1.6 engine on pre-reform cars, the same number on updated ones, plus a very fresh GT version with a turbo engine and three gearboxes in different combinations with them. The undisputed favorite among the Russians was the more powerful version of the time-tested aspirated 1.6. These used Polo sedans are currently sold on the secondary market approximately 90% .

Of the remaining, about 7% – these are very fresh Polo GT and top-end Highline with “turbo-four” 1.4 or less 3% - initial versions with derated 1.6 engines and manuals. Moreover, what is curious is that despite the wary attitude of many of our motorists towards DSG “robots”, only every fifth buyer chooses the turbo version of the sedan with a manual transmission! That is, 80% of all Polo 1.4 TSI sold in Russia are equipped with “robots”. In the general mass Polo cars with DSG only 5% . There are slightly more semi-sedans with manual transmissions than with automatic transmissions - 53% against 42% .

Thanks to galvanization

Double-sided galvanic galvanization metal, cataphoretic priming with complete immersion of the finished body in a bath with a primer electrolyte solution, as well as two-layer painting, topped with varnish, guarantee the “semi-sedan” long and reliable protection against corrosion. Subject to careful operation, the problem of rust on a car is unlikely to bother the owners of the car in the first 5 years after purchasing it at a car dealership. Or maybe more.

If the sedan was actively used and often drove around bad roads, as well as over long distances, then small local pockets of corrosion may still appear in places where the paint is chipped on the hood, fenders, wheel arches and car thresholds. And also at the junctions body parts and bumpers. If the “red plague” has spread to other parts of the car and significantly manifested itself in different places, then perhaps the person in front of you has been in serious trouble. car accident after a cheap, low-quality repair. It is better to refuse this, as well as sedans that worked in taxis.

The wear and tear of their units, as a rule, is quite high, and for quality service and the repair of such machines, usually carried out by taxi mechanics, can hardly be guaranteed. Former taxis, as well as service, delivery and courier cars, of which there are quite a few among Polo sedans, can be recognized by high mileage hundreds of thousands of kilometers, heavily worn pedals, a shiny steering wheel, a “halo” from the windshield wipers, unpresentable upholstery of the driver’s seat and armrest on the door, as well as remnants of yellow film or stickers on the body.

Engines

The Volkswagen Polo sedan was equipped in Russia with three in-line petrol fours. From 2010 to 2015 it was a 1600 cc aluminum 16-valve EA111 of Euro-4 environmental class with the factory designation CFN. Its output, depending on the firmware, is 85 forces (CFNB) or 105 forces (CFNA). Since 2015, the model has received a new naturally aspirated engine EA211 (CWV series) of the same volume and Russian assembly, but of Euro-5 class. It produces 90 forces (CWVB) or 110 forces. (CWVA). The sedan received the most powerful 125-horsepower 1.4 TSI turbo engine of the CZCA series after restyling on the top version of the Highline and the sports GT.

When choosing a pre-restyling semi-sedan, pay attention Special attention his motor. The 1.6 MPI “fours”, which were supplied to Kaluga from the German Chemnitz plant, despite the declared resource of 200,000 km, are known to Polo owners with a number of problems. For example, incorrect thermal clearance of the pistons with the cylinders and wear of the graphite coating of the piston skirt, which manifests itself as knocking and clanking with a mileage of 30,000 km or more. Moreover, at an early stage the sounds are heard only “when cold” and when warmed up they disappear. With severe wear, the pistons ring and knock on the cylinder walls when moving at the top “dead” point constantly.

The problem can be solved for the next approximately 100,000 km by replacing 76.460 EM pistons with improved 76.480 ET pistons at 15,250 rubles apiece, excluding labor. If 5 year old factory warranty is still affecting the motor, then these expenses can be avoided by repairing it at the expense of the manufacturer. Otherwise, you will face significant expenses, including replacing the engine for 516,500 rubles if the “disease” is advanced. If the engine makes noise like a diesel engine, then most likely you will need to change the timing chain for 3,300 rubles. It sometimes stretches to 100,000 km, not reaching the 150,000 km promised by Volkswagen.

The loud growl of 1.6 MPI on pre-restyling Polo sedans is a sure sign of a cracked exhaust manifold. For a new one you will have to pay 50,400 rubles. But it doesn’t last forever! Against the background of these problems and noises, a knock under the hood on bumps from the frequently failing left engine mount may not be noticed. But in vain. A new one will cost 5,900 rubles for the original or from 2,600 rubles for an analogue. Compared to the EA111 engine, the new naturally aspirated 1.6 MPI CWV series, which appeared in Polo after restyling, looks problem-free. German engineers took into account the mistakes of the past power unit, therefore, with proper care, it can travel more than 250,000 km to the capital. Or even all 300,000 km!

Instead of a chain in the timing drive, the new 1.6 engine received a quieter toothed belt with a service life of up to 120,000 km. And also simplified for the sake of greater efficiency, cost reduction and ease of maintenance design. This motor is still young enough to talk about some serious “sores”. However, it is already known to be an oil-guzzler, so you need to regularly monitor the level of lubrication in it. Also, oil leaks are sometimes found in the timing belt area due to leakage of camshaft seal oil seals from 900 rubles. Dealers can fix this defect under warranty.

The third engine of the Polo sedan is the in-line supercharged “four” 1.4 TSI of the CZCA series – a turbocharged relative of the new CWV unit. It is more demanding on fuel quality due to direct injection. When inspecting the engine of a turbo sedan, it is worth checking that there are no oil leaks through the seals and gaskets. But it’s still better to entrust the diagnostics to professionals who, in particular, will assess the condition of the turbine. It lasts well for 150,000 km, but may need to be replaced at 100,000 km. The price of a new one is 88,250 rubles! However, while the turbo engines of the Polo sedan are still under warranty, the seller has service book with notes on timely maintenance at the dealer, “sores” can be eliminated at the expense of the manufacturer.

manual transmission, automatic transmission,DSG

The five-speed manual is one of the most reliable gearboxes on the Kaluga sedan and has faithfully served for hundreds of thousands of kilometers. At approximately 60,000 - 80,000 km, the clutch may need to be replaced for 17,300 rubles and release bearing for 1900 rubles. When inspecting your car, look underneath it and take it for a test drive. The manual gearbox body “sweating” with oil is a reason to check the lubricant level and its condition. And fuzzy gear shifts will indicate wear of the gearbox parts. Perhaps there is a car in front of you with high mileage or an amateur’s car starts first at a traffic light.

The six-speed automatic transmission Aisin 09G is well known from Golfs V and VI, Passats B6 and B7, and also from the Audi A3 released after 2004. Most often it fails due to overheating, and its repair is quite expensive. The valve block alone will cost about 100,000 rubles, and for a new automatic transmission of the same type you will have to pay at least 5 times more. However, if the sedan’s mileage has not yet exceeded 100,000 km, and during a test drive in all modes the automatic transmission works clearly, softly and smoothly - without jolts or slipping - then this box will still serve you.

Owners have complaints about the 7-speed “robot,” which is considered unserviceable in Russia, although the problems of earlier copies have already been resolved in the current versions of the gearbox. Most often, DSG is criticized for vibrations and “kicks” when switching from 1st to 2nd gear in traffic jams or when pushing uphill. And since “robots” tend to break down suddenly without any signs of malfunction, it is better to take your favorite Polo with DSG to the dealer for diagnostics. However, “semi-sedans” with “robots” have recently appeared on sale, which means the gearbox is most likely still under warranty.

Rest

The Polo sedan, like other Volkswagens, may begin to crumble with little things with age. On cars with high mileage, for example, those used in taxis, the wiring harnesses in the doors for 7,700 rubles, the window lift drives for 7,600 rubles, and the radiator fans for 10,400 rubles and the interior fans for 12,200 rubles can be worn out. The weak points of electrics include a generator costing 39,600 rubles for an original one (analogues from 8,600 rubles), which often does not last up to 150,000 km. But the sedan’s suspension is quite durable and is unlikely to require repairs before the mileage reaches 100,000 km.

Shock absorbers are the first to be sold at 5,700 rubles for the rear and 5,500 rubles for the front. If the car has been overloaded, then they are unlikely to last more than 30,000 - 40,000 km. Creaks that appear in the front suspension at 70,000 km are a sure sign of wear on the silent blocks, costing 600 rubles. The steering rack in a Polo lasts about 70,000 km and costs 43,300 rubles. The brakes also require attention. If a car with ABS is reluctant to slow down and stop, it may need new anti-lock braking system sensors for 1,600 rubles.

How much?

The cheapest “semi-sedans” can now be found for 250,000 rubles. These are pre-reform Polos with manuals from taxis or corporate fleets with a suspiciously low declared mileage of 90,000 km. Or cars with damage after an accident. More honest taxi drivers, who sometimes don’t bother tearing off the yellow film from the body, sell their Polos with mileage from 170,000 to 280,000 km for about 300,000 rubles. Prices for updated taxis no older than 2015 with mileage from 90,000 to 120,000 km start at 430,000 rubles. These cars are not worth your attention unless you are buying a Polo to do private driving.

Normal well-maintained Polo sedans from private owners with a body that is not white or yellow, and also without “drivers wanted” stickers on rear window It is unlikely that you will be able to find one cheaper than 350,000 rubles. And these will be 5-6 year old copies with mileage from 70,000 to 150,000 km. Prices for updated sedans in decent condition start at 500,000 rubles. And for very new cars with a 1.4 turbo engine they ask from 690,000 to 840,000 rubles. That is, as for new Polo! These are cars produced in 2016-2017 in the top-end Highline or GT versions with a mileage of up to 10,000 km and a factory warranty.

Our choice

In our opinion, a used Polo sedan is an honest and fairly high-quality car that adequately bears the Volkswagen logo on the radiator grille. In addition, according to its owners, the “semi-sedan” is not so expensive to maintain or repair for 5-7 years after purchase and is very reliable! And despite the fact that this car, which is initially not the cheapest among its competitors, noticeably loses in price a year or two after leaving the showroom, buying it with mileage is completely justified. The main thing is not to become the owner of a taxi, courier or company car that is already “tired” of traveling life.

The ideal option for a used Volkswagen Polo Sedan, according to Am.ru, would be an updated car with a more powerful 110-horsepower 1.6 engine and an automatic transmission. This engine is more reliable than that of the pre-reform car, and the Polo itself, after restyling, has become more solid and more advanced. Moreover, even the very first such sedans are not yet two years old. A suitable well-maintained option from the first owner with mileage from 2,000 to 25,000 km can be found for 500,000 – 550,000 rubles. And with a factory warranty!

If there are no complaints about newness, then, after spending more time on inspections and diagnostics, it is quite possible to find a well-maintained pre-restyling Polo 2-3 years older with a 105-horsepower 1.6 engine and the same automatic transmission. There are many such options on sale with one owner title and mileage less than 80,000 km. But the price is much more attractive - from 380,000 to 430,000 rubles. A similar Polo with a manual costs about the same money. Since the 6-speed automatic machine Aisin In general, it is not inferior to it in terms of reliability; there is no point in considering a car with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Undoubtedly one of the most popular budget cars in Russia, which can rightfully be called “national”, is the Polo sedan from the famous German mark Volkswagen. For the domestic car market, the Polo Sedan was introduced in the spring of 2010, and half a year later, sales of the car entered an active phase.

The layout of the VW Polo Sedan offers a choice of several gasoline engines with a working volume of 1.6 liters, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed hydromechanical automatic transmission. In the suspension and chassis, a classic tandem for the economy segment is used, in the front there is a swinging MacPherson strut, and in the rear there is a traditional steel beam.

According to the manufacturer, the Volkswagen Polo Classic car, was specially designed for use in conditions and climate acceptable to the territory of the Russian Federation, but unfortunately this turned out to be far from the case, but just a publicity stunt...

What disadvantages do owners note?

- Poor sound insulation, in winter time years, the interior of the car instantly cools down.

- The ground clearance is not high, the rear spring supports do not reach the ground by only 11 cm.

- Stiff suspension with small moves.

- Not clear work electronic pedal which takes some getting used to.

- Interior design of the “last century”

- Poor quality material for seats and door trim. Gets dirty quickly and easily to 30 thousand mileage It no longer looks like new, only covers can save it.

- Cheap hard plastic dashboard, crickets may appear over time.

- Poor head lighting.

Polo Sedan is made for Russia or not.

As mentioned above, the manufacturer states that this car was specially manufactured for Russian conditions. Let's try to figure this out:

1. Suspension.

For the domestic car enthusiast, there is nothing better than soft or moderate elastic suspension, smoothing out all the “charms” and bumps road surface, as well as its absence. Many drivers consider the French budget car Renault Logan to be the standard in this category. Unfortunately, Polo cannot boast of similar comfort or reliability. Its element is smooth highways and not large speed bumps, made strictly in accordance with GOST.

2. The engine starts poorly in winter.

This problem is more related to CFNA engine with a volume of 1.6 liters and a power of 105 hp, which was installed on cars before restyling in 2015. Its cylinder block was made of aluminum, the main difference of which from cast iron is rapid cooling. Thus, during the day the car was idle in severe frost, the engine cooled down completely and could not start on the first try, or even remain waiting for a thaw.

3. Weak stove and thermal insulation.

At negative air temperatures, the car warms up relatively poorly in the cabin; however, as soon as you turn off the engine, the cabin immediately becomes cold, which is not entirely acceptable for Russia.

Sores and weaknesses of the Volkswagen Polo

Engine CFNA 105 hp volume 1.6 liters.

The problem is very widespread and has long been known to the manufacturer. Increased wear and progressive knocking in the engine, on short runs of 50-100 thousand km, are the main complaint of owners against the concern. According to many laboratories for repair and operation of internal combustion engines, the reason lies in oil fasting skirt and lower part of the pistons, which leads to scoring with subsequent grinding of the diameter of the part.

As a result, the pistons receive increased deviation from the vertical and create impacts on the cylinder liners. It is equally important to note that cases of rapid failure of the cylinder-piston group most often occur among motorists who start driving the car without preheating the engine in winter.

Transmission support

Knocking and metallic clanging in the engine area can appear in a completely new car, already after a mileage of 15 thousand kilometers. The reason for this is weak design gearbox support located in the area of the left side member. Unfortunately, the resource of the original part is not very long; analogues sometimes last longer.

Stabilizer bushings and struts

The problem in particular extends more to the details front stabilizer lateral stability. The appropriate knocking of the struts and creaking of the bushings, a typical disease Polo sedan.

EUR malfunction

Malfunction of the unit, power steering system, a common malfunction on cars before the restyling period. A symptom of a malfunction is considered to be steering wheel pulls to the side, as well as unequal force when rotating the “steering wheel” to the right and left.

ABS sensors

A common problem with many budget cars, namely souring of sensors anti-locking system. The driver will be reminded of contact souring by a constantly lit ABS warning light.

Window lifter block

A common malfunction is sticking of contacts and failure of the glass drive, usually in the lowest position. Cases of burnout of the motor winding in the drive of the lifting mechanism are also considered not uncommon.

Budget (read: modest-sized) sedans are still very popular in Russia. Daewoo Nexia or Renault Logan, Hyundai Accent or Fiat Albea - there is a buyer for each of these models. Knowing the commitment of our motorists to this segment, Volkswagen has prepared an adapted version especially for Russia Volkswagen hatchback Polo, having established its production at the plant in Kaluga.

The fact that they will build on the basis of the Volkswagen Polo hatchback affordable sedan, representatives of the German automaker reported almost a year ago. Generally speaking, it’s surprising that Volkswagen didn’t have such a model before. Until now, in Russia, “people’s cars” have only gone up in price. We have already forgotten about the former availability of the same Polo, Golf or Passat. Looks like it's time to rectify the situation. Moreover, Volkswagen has been operating its assembly plant in Russia for several years.

Successful advertising and several intriguing publications greatly fueled interest in the upcoming new product. At the beginning of summer, when full official information appeared ( specifications, prices and configurations), orders came one after another. The car was demonstrated in all its glory at the Moscow Motor Show, and in September it went on sale. Moreover, today you can’t just walk into a car dealership and buy a car. Dealers assure that orders are accepted right up to the end of next year.

When looking at the new Polo, it’s somehow hard to believe that this model was created as a budget model - the appearance of the sedan turned out to be extremely solid and harmonious. However, the team of chief designer Walter de Silva, to whom all current Volkswagens owe a single corporate image, has never failed.

In person the car looks noticeably larger than its sister hatchback. This is understandable: the sedan’s wheelbase has grown by 8 centimeters (up to 2552 mm). And in general Volkswagen dimensions The Polo sedan has become one of the largest representatives of its class. Its length is 4384 mm, width - 1699 mm, height - 1465 mm.

The extended wheelbase allowed for more free space rear passengers - the increase in free space is immediately felt. At the same time, the trunk is also considerable: its volume reaches 460 liters, and for transportation oversized cargo backrest rear seat can be folded entirely or in parts (depending on the configuration) in a 60/40 ratio. With the exception of the second row of seats, the interiors of the hatchback and sedan are almost identical. There is still the same strict and solid design, the same precise ergonomics, the same high-quality materials. Except that the instrument cluster is not as colorful as on a regular Polo. Of course, no complaints about the fit of parts - the build quality is no worse than German. True, the plastic is a bit harsh, but you can’t drive on plastic, right?

It is important to note that the Polo sedan is adapted to Russian roads, climate and gasoline. The car received a ground clearance increased by 1.5 cm (up to 17 cm), a galvanized body, reinforced suspension, and a package for cold climate zones.

There is only one engine so far - a gasoline engine with a volume of 1.6 liters and a power of 105 hp. A little later, an alternative with a power of up to 100 hp will appear. In the future, this will further reduce the price tag. The manufacturer does not hide the fact that the 1.6-liter engine migrated under the hood of the Polo sedan from other Volkswagen models. He's familiar Skoda owners Fabia and Roomster.

It comes with a pair of gearboxes - a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed Tiptronic automatic. Are there many “budget” cars with such a transmission? A huge plus is the fact that from the very first days of production the car will be sold with an automatic transmission.

Thanks to the Neva-Avtokom auto center, we got acquainted with two versions of the car - the basic 1.6 MT Trendline (399,000 rubles) and the more sophisticated 1.6 AT Highline (578,700 rubles). Despite the obvious external similarity, these are, of course, two different cars. Let's talk about each of them in more detail.

Option 1. 1.6 MT Trendline (RUB 399,000)

In this version, Volkswagen is truly honest car. He probably earns back every penny of the money invested in him. Firstly, even for 399,000 rubles (that is, without “casting” and foglights, with black mirrors against a white body) it looks solid. The Polo sedan does not even think about showing off its “budget” nature, rather, quite the contrary. Thanks to the longer wheelbase compared to the hatchback, the car looks foldable and harmonious, and does not look like the same hatch with a trunk attached. Many even note similarities with new Volkswagen Passat is a car that no one would call cheap.

Inside, the basic Trendline is really simple. No heated seats, no radio. Instead of an air conditioner there is an old-fashioned stove. But electric windows are installed not only in the front ones, but also in rear doors, and the steering wheel is adjustable in height and reach.
