The best off-road SUVs and crossovers. The best compact crossovers

Crossovers are extremely popular in our country due to a combination of two characteristics: on the one hand, they have the features of an SUV (increased ground clearance, high driving position, all-wheel drive), and on the other hand, they are comfortable and relatively budget-friendly, since they are built mainly on a passenger car platform with a monocoque body. Crossovers are often chosen for their sporty character, emphasized by their aggressive design, significant capacity and increased cross-country ability, which is important for driving on bad roads, especially in difficult weather conditions.

The great popularity in the market of this category of cars determines wide choose crossovers for every taste and budget: you can find quite high-quality cars with a decent price-quality ratio, even up to 1,000,000 rubles. Of course, the best examples with really large internal volume, full 4x4 drive and modern electronics are in price category higher, but different buyers have different priorities: some care about design and comfort, while others care about fuel economy and ease of maintenance.

Cars in Russia off-road have gained great popularity, primarily they are valued for their excellent technical characteristics, the ability to overcome difficult sections of the road, presentable appearance. But not all cars meet the expectations of car owners, because reliable SUVs should rarely break down, have a long service life of the engine and transmission parts, and be well adapted to harsh off-road conditions.

Ratings of SUV class cars are constantly published on the Internet, and at the top of the charts, among the best, every time they find themselves absolutely different models. The thing is that when choosing the best SUV, various criteria are taken into account - there are TOP budget and prestigious cars, often the list includes not only real all-terrain vehicles, but also crossovers, SUVs, and much depends on the year of manufacture of the vehicle, engine type, and efficiency.

TOP 10 reliable SUVs for Russian roads

Undoubtedly, a car is considered reliable if during its operation it is necessary to repair the vehicle as little as possible, go to a car service center or a service station. The list of the best models is often compiled without taking into account discontinued cars; in some cases, only used cars are considered. In this TOP 10 we included SUVs that are deservedly popular among Russian motorists, regardless of year of manufacture, mileage, or cost. So, the top ten best 4x4 cars include:

Published ratings of “the most reliable SUV” very often include such popular models as Toyota RAV4, BMW X5, Mazda CX-7, Honda CR-V. But if we take a strict approach, all of these listed brands, like many others (for example, Renault Duster, Hyundai Santa Fe), belong to the class of crossovers and are not real all-terrain vehicles for a number of reasons:

  • are not always equipped with all-wheel drive;
  • in many cases they do not have a low range of gears;
  • often do not have high ground clearance, which provides very good cross-country ability.

Previously, it was believed that a real all-terrain vehicle should only have a frame structure, but since recently a body on a frame has become less and less common, the type of car was no longer classified according to this criterion.

The most economical SUVs for Russia

Fuel consumption is an important indicator for a car, but the concepts of “SUV” in the true sense and “economical” are not always incompatible. In order for an all-terrain vehicle to overcome difficult road sections, it must be equipped not only with an all-wheel drive transmission, big wheels, have high ground clearance, but also have a fairly powerful, large-capacity engine. Nevertheless, there are SUVs that are capable of using fuel quite economically, most often these are cars with small dimensions, diesel engine. Models in this category include:

  • Range Rover Evoque;
  • Jeep Cherokee XJ;
  • Chevrolet Niva;
  • Suzuki Jimny;
  • Mercedes-Benz W463.

Of course, fuel consumption depends on the type and size of the engine; it is unlikely that a Mercedes Gelandwagen will be economical if it has a five-liter power unit. But with a 2.7 L diesel engine, this car consumes fuel very, very moderately, especially on the highway and without a heavy load.

Someone might argue that there are many models that are more economical in fuel consumption, but again these are mainly crossovers and SUVs, with small-displacement internal combustion engines and not the highest ground clearance. It should be noted that the UAZ Patriot with a diesel engine also consumes relatively little fuel if it is equipped with a ZMZ-51432 or Iveco F1A engine.

Rating of the most inexpensive used SUVs

For Russia, with its sometimes impassable roads, buying an SUV often becomes an urgent need; not only hunters and fishermen buy cars, but also residents of remote villages and hamlets. Here the question often arises - how to buy inexpensive car, and at the same time of sufficient quality, a very limited budget forces you to save money. Purchasing a used car in this case is a very reasonable decision, although there are many pitfalls in this option. When buying a used car, you should pay close attention to technical condition TS, if you buy a car with serious defects, you will have to invest a lot in it in the future Money and your work.

Often a hint on which used SUV to choose can be found on car forums; drivers express positive opinions about the models:

  • Nissan Patrol;
  • Opel Frontera;
  • Isuzu Trooper;
  • Mitsubishi Pajero III;
  • Great Wall Hover;
  • Ssangyong Rexton;
  • Ssangyong Kyron (all-wheel drive version).

One could also consider the Pajero II model, but find such a car with good condition bodywork is very difficult.

Russian UAZ and Niva cars in all modifications are inexpensive, but it’s difficult to talk about reliability here, although in capable hands and if you want to do the repairs yourself, buying a Russian SUV is a very good option. Among domestic cars, there are also models that are in demand and have such important characteristics as excellent cross-country ability, ease of repair and maintenance, and low price.

Rating of the best Russian SUVs

Russian automakers are often criticized for low build quality and a large number of defects, however, there are car models that have conquered not only Russia, but also the West. Although domestic SUVs are not considered the most reliable in the world, they have unique technical characteristics, in terms of cross-country ability they compete with the best foreign-made all-terrain vehicles.

First place In the ranking of the best Russian 4x4 cars, the VAZ-2121 (Lada 4x4) is occupied; this model has repeatedly participated in international competitions and won such prestigious rallies as Paris - Dakar. Lada can easily overcome rough terrain and climb mountains, so it is rightfully considered a high-altitude car.

Second by popularity domestic SUV– UAZ-469, currently it has passed the baton to the no less famous “Kozlik” UAZ Hunter. This all-terrain vehicle can be driven through areas where there are no roads at all, and has amazing cross-country ability even without any lifting or installation of special mud tires.

Third on the list of domestically produced “rogues” is the UAZ Patriot; unlike the previous two models, this car can be used not only off-road, but is also well suited for city driving. The UAZ has a fairly comfortable and spacious interior, not the poorest set of additional options; in rich trim levels it is even equipped with cruise control, air conditioning, a multimedia center and a pre-heater.

Fourth place The ranking is occupied by the T-98 Kombat special vehicle, which looks like a tank and has an armored body. Although the design of the machine is frameless, body parts The car is made of high-alloy steel, its armor is capable of protecting against bullets from a Kalashnikov assault rifle.

There are Russian SUVs that do not make it into the TOP, but you should also pay attention to them. One of these cars is the Derways 3131 “Cowboy”, built on the platform of the Romanian ARO model, has a very aggressive appearance, has spacious interior, large trunk, high seating position and excellent cross-country ability. “Caucasian Jeep” is similar in appearance to Gelendvagen, the model was produced from 2003 to 2006.

Land Cruiser 200 is one of the most reliable SUVs in the world

The Toyota Land Cruiser 200 model has been produced since 2007 and is supplied to Russia with two types of engines:

  • V-shaped turbodiesel (8 cylinders) 4.5 l;
  • petrol "eight" 4.7 l Euro-4.

Of course, the “200th” is extremely reliable, large and generally unpretentious car, but paradoxically, it is rarely used for traveling on heavy off-road conditions, and is mainly used in the city. You can understand why this happens - this model is purchased to assert its status, and far from poor people drive such a car.

Although the Kruzak is a prestigious and expensive car, it has not only advantages, but also its disadvantages. The advantages of this machine include:

  • rich equipment even in the basic configuration;
  • huge interior and impressive trunk size;
  • good maneuverability and controllability, road stability;
  • excellent visibility;
  • high ground clearance (230 mm);
  • soft suspension that absorbs all irregularities;
  • good sound insulation;
  • warm interior that quickly warms up in frosty weather.

But although the LC 200 is characterized by rich equipment and high-quality finishing materials, its interior still lacks special chic, and in comparison with, for example, cool Mercedes It looks quite gray inside. Another very serious disadvantage is high fuel consumption, especially on cars with gasoline engines; here, during dynamic driving, fuel consumption can reach 30 liters per 100 km. Car owners also have complaints about the standard lighting, the quality of body paint, and one of the characteristic “diseases” of the Land Cruiser 200 is weak brakes.

Features of the Mitsubishi Pajero IV SUV

Unlike the LC 200, the Mitsubishi Pajero is not considered a brutal city car for the elite; rather, it belongs to the category of “workhorses”. This model has been produced since 1982; by 2018, four generations had already been produced; the car has been restyled several times. For Russia, the 4th Pajero is available with 3.0 liter gasoline engines (6 cylinders) and 3.2 liter turbodiesels (in-line four). SUV wheel drive – plug-in all-wheel drive, available center differential with locking, a number of low gears.

Characteristic differences of Mitsubishi Pajero IV:

  • Interior quality is average;
  • quite stiff suspension;
  • very good handling even off-road;
  • not too high fuel requirements.

It may seem strange, but on the Pajero the steering column is adjustable only for the angle of inclination; adjustment for reach is not provided. In terms of reliability, handling, visibility, and cross-country ability, car owners have no complaints about this car, and among the shortcomings the following should be highlighted:

  • not the best sound insulation;
  • high fuel consumption and poor dynamics in cars with a 3-liter gasoline engine;
  • expensive maintenance and spare parts.

Pajero IV also doesn’t have the best low price, but a real Japanese SUV and cannot be too cheap.

Full-size SUV Range Rover L405

Range Rover in the L405 body has been produced since 2012, this is the fourth generation of this model. If at the very beginning of the 2000s Land Rover cars were not highly reliable, then later, after 2006, the automaker corrected many of the shortcomings, although even now you can hear various complaints from car owners.

Range Rover is expensive and prestigious car, which has numerous advantages:

  • spacious interior with rich finishing;
  • a large number of additional options even in the simplest configuration;
  • high level of comfort;
  • excellent maneuverability and stability on the road;
  • excellent dynamics with any type of engine;
  • good sound insulation;
  • thoughtful standard navigation.

The car is equipped with air suspension, thanks to which you can change the ground clearance; Range Rover surpasses even BMW, Mercedes and Toyota in terms of comfort. But the SUV also has disadvantages, and in some cases they are quite serious:

  • knocking in the front suspension;
  • weak paintwork;
  • electrical problems.

Since there are a lot of electronics in the car, it can periodically malfunction. The electrical part is sore spot Range Rover cars, here you can understand the indignant car owners who bought a car for more than six million rubles, but it refuses to drive.

Whether you're towing your boat to the lake or taking the kids to soccer practice, the right SUV can handle any task. The latest models offer everything from entertainment systems for rear seat passengers, up to latest electronic functions security. To make the right choice, think about what you will use most often and, based on this, proceed further. Traditional SUVs tend to favor attributes like towing power and good ground clearance for tackling rough roads, while more modern crossovers (car-based SUVs) are designed for a smoother ride and maximum interior space. In this review we have made a selection of both types of these vehicles, so no matter what you are looking for, you will find it here.

Subcompact class

#1 Honda HR-V

The 2017 Honda XR-V is one of the best contenders for the title of best in this class. What does she have to do with this? For those who have just switched from a passenger car, there is plenty of space in the trunk, despite the size of the car, thanks to the folding “Magic Seats”. There's also plenty of room for four tall passengers, something you won't find in this class. Our wish would have been to make the technical interface simpler, but overall the HR-V is a very comfortable car for passengers, with more space than the average subcompact sedan.

#2 Mazda CX-3

The 2017 Mazda TsX-3 is one of the most attractive, enjoyable to drive and sporty cars in this class. It's smaller than other leading compacts, which means space is very limited. But, if you are considering driving pleasure, then this is the best choice. The CX-3 also has one of the best interiors in the class, with superb seats, high-quality materials and an easy-to-use infotainment system that parodies those of more expensive cars like Audi and BMW.

#3 Subaru Crosstrek (Subaru XV)

Body-on-frame SUVs are typically the only go-anywhere, off-road vehicles available, but some small crossovers like this 2017 Subaru Crosstrek buck the trend. It's essentially an Impreza Hatchback with extra ground clearance, different tires and some styling upgrades. The Crosstrek offers some level of off-road capability without the downside of compromising fuel economy. And while the Subaru Crosstrek isn't the fastest car in its class, it still has adequate power for city use and modest fuel economy.

Class Compact

#4 Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-V is one of the smoothest, most streamlined cars in this class, and perhaps one of the overall ones on the market today. The CR-V has plenty of room, offers excellent fuel economy (especially with the optional 1.5-liter turbo engine), and it's relatively quick. Honda offers it at a very competitive price, so you'll likely find it fits within your budget. The car may not be the most exciting or sporty in its segment, but when it comes to comfort, quality and price, it is perhaps the best representative.

#5 Mazda CX-5

Since the old Mazda CX-5 was our favorite, it comes as no surprise that the new, improved, redesigned CX-5 is also our choice. With an interior and driving dynamics that mimic luxury cars, the Mazda CX-5 feels much more expensive than it actually is. Add to that the fact that it's still a very fuel-efficient, family-friendly crossover with plenty of space and modern interior technology, and you have a class-leading compact.

#6 Ford Escape

The 2017 Ford Escape is a strong performer across the board, offering a wide range of options to suit the needs of different buyers. There are turbo engines, plenty of trunk space, and a much improved technology interface with Ford's latest infotainment software. Like its closest rival, the Mazda CX-5, the Escape feels sporty to drive, more car-like than SUV-like. Whether you're looking for an entry-level car or a loaded version with all the bells and whistles, the Ford Escape is worth considering.

#7 Subaru Forester

If you're looking for something basic to carry and would like to avoid a lot of unnecessary bling, the 2017 Subaru Forester is a great choice. It has a fuel-efficient 4-cylinder engine, standard all-wheel drive and solid reliability scores. The Forester also has many great technology and safety options available, such as Lane Departure Prevention, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (side monitoring when reversing).

Midsize class 2-row

#8 2017 Ford Edge

The Ford Edge offers buyers a little bit of everything with its comfortable ride, ample interior space and optional performance-oriented engines. Base motor is attractive for its solid fuel economy, and the optional engines produce impressive power. Recent updates to the technology interface have also given the Edge all the tricks you'll need in this mid-size class.

#9 Kia Sorento

The 2017 Kia Sorento is a good example of why we love midsizes so much. She has many technological features and all the space you need for family travel. The Sorento is available with two or three rows of seating, so you can seat up to 7 passengers. The Sorento's smooth, sleek design and comfortable seats add to the Sorento's appeal, and it comes standard with an excellent warranty on all trim levels.

#10 Nissan Murano

This one is unique mid-size crossover distinguished by its catchy external design, high-tech interior and best-in-class front seats. It also delivers solid performance, making it feel smaller behind the wheel than it actually is. Don't worry, though, there's plenty of rear bench space for adults or even the largest child seats, although the trunk isn't as spacious as the Ford Edge.

Midsize class 3-row

#11 Honda Pilot

The 2017 Honda Pilot has received many improvements since the debut of the first generation. It now offers one of the best combinations of performance, applicability and technology. The Pilot is comfortable on the road, smooth on rough city streets, and well made, inside and out. For those drivers who want to ditch the minivan but still need three rows of seating, the Pilot offers intelligent space solutions, advanced technology and impressive class-leading fuel economy. The Honda Pilot can even haul up to 2.2 tonnes when properly equipped, making it a great alternative to bulky body-on-frame SUVs.

#12 Toyota Highlander

The 2017 Toyota Highlander has been one of the best cars in this class for some time, and there are many reasons for that. Not only does it offer an optional 3.5-liter V6 that's powerful and fuel-efficient, but a hybrid model is also available, a rarity in the class. The Highlander can tow up to 2.2 tons of cargo when properly equipped, and has an above-average cargo bay. The Toyota Highlander also has pleasantly heavy handling and near-luxury levels of interior comfort.

#13 Mazda CX-9

One of the coolest looking and most modified cars in recent memory, the Mazda CX-9 has an unrivaled combination of size, style and class. It's big, but maneuverable. It's powerful yet fuel efficient. It seems expensive, but the price is still not in the luxury stratosphere. And while the 2,040 liters of boot space isn't the most you'll find in the class, the CX-9's comfortable cargo bay is nonetheless worthy of respect, and fuel economy figures (as well as real-world performance) are impressive. So to speak, this is a driver's 3-row crossover, just what we love and expect from Mazda.

Full Size Class

#14 Ford Expedition

There's been a big shift in the SUV world over the past few years, away from big, body-on-frame, cargo-based family haulers. Crossovers with soft and smooth suspension are more common today. Despite this shift, the Ford Expedition has evolved to create a strong three-row SUV with truck-like traction and serious road presence. The 2017 Ford Expedition has one of the softest and smoothest suspensions in the segment, and more than enough room for adults in the third row of seats. And while fuel economy isn't quite as impressive, the Expedition is able to squeeze decent mileage out of its turbo V6 - 13 mpg combined. Add to this a maximum towing rating of over 4 tonnes and you have an impressive family machine.

Off Road Class

#15 Toyota Land Cruiser

Sometimes you may need an SUV with a very specific skill set, just driving your family to training and back won't be enough. This is where an off-road athlete like the Toyota Land Cruiser comes into play. Full-time all-wheel drive, ground clearance that puts most pickup trucks to shame and Toyota's advanced KDSS (Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System) make the Kruzak eminently capable off-road. The superb ride quality, strong V8 and simple, clean interior structure must make this SUV more attractive to more than just the off-road crowd. Of course, you can own a Land Cruiser and never go off-road. You can also own it and never drive it on the road. This is the beauty of this car with smooth body lines.

#16 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Jeep has been making off-road vehicles for what seems like forever. And, of course, comfortable, family grand The Cherokee is unlikely to be its most off-road capable model, but it can go much further than most of its brethren - especially in Trailhawk trim, which debuted in 2017. More than just an SUV, the Grand Cherokee is quiet, almost luxurious inside, and extremely good on the road. There are also three powertrains to choose from here, which should help when it's hauling something or just making more noise from your driving.

#17 Jeep Wrangler

There aren't many cars left on the planet that are as focused as the 2017 Jeep Wrangler. The Wrangler has two main missions, which it has served for decades: to go as far off-road as possible, and to have a convertible roof. Everything else is secondary. It's not comfortable, luxurious, well finished family car. It's just an SUV that wants to go where no one else can. Overall grace obviously suffers as a result, but that's part of what gives the Wrangler its charm. He doesn't worry about rear-seat DVD players or massaging seats. He'd rather drop the roof and go for a drive through the woods, which is probably what you want if you're looking at a Wrangler. And that's why he's still our favorite.

#18 Toyota 4Runner

With off-road variations and many useful characteristics no matter where you take it, the Toyota 4Runner is a leader in its class. Huge ground clearance will get you over rocks and ruts, while the KDSS suspension system and available low-range transfer case can stomach any road surface you throw at them. The forward runner is relatively capable and as a tractor too, it can pull up to 2.2 tons. There are a few available configurations The 4Runner is for city driving, but we recommend one of the TRD models to get you off the beaten path.

Lux Compact class

#19 Acura RDX

If you're looking for a luxurious ambiance without the maudlin price premium, the Acura RDX is a great place to start. The richest trims of the RDX typically compete with other luxury crossovers in their base trim levels, without sacrificing comfort or manners. The cabin is large enough for adults to sit comfortably in the back, and the standard V6 engine combines class-leading acceleration with reasonable fuel economy. All the luxury equipment you'd expect to find in this class is available in the RDH, and it's one of the easiest cars to drive thanks to its size.

#20 BMW X3

Some SUV buyers expect their cars to feel massive behind the wheel, but the BMW X3 feels more like a sports sedan than an SUV. Add to this a spacious and well-executed interior, and you have a winning recipe. The X3 is a little more priced than some of its similarly equipped rivals, but if you want something that feels a little different no matter how you drive it, the X3 is worth the money.

#21 Audi Q5

While it may not be particularly flashy or flashy on the outside, the 2017 Audi Q5 certainly has the right equipment where it counts. The base 4-cylinder turbo engine has enough power to keep it competitive in the class, while the optional V6 offers a little more efficiency. The interior features top-end materials, with the sliding rear seat being a unique feature in the class. And the sporty driving nature means you don't have to sacrifice practicality for fun.

#22 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class

One of the newest cars in the segment, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC is a solid performer across the board. The cabin has plenty of room for adults, both front and rear. The styling and finishing touches every luxury standard, and the standard 4-cylinder engine is among the best in class for acceleration and fuel economy. An available AMG model raises the bar with a turbo V6, and the available all-wheel drive on all models means you can consider the GLC suitable for any climate. The GLC doesn't skimp on options either - you can get them of every sort, from a 14-speaker Burmester audio system to 360-degree cameras.

#23 Porsche Macan

The 2017 Porsche Macan is probably one of the best-driving SUVs on the market today. Porsche took the virtues of flamboyant handling and applied them to the small crossover class. Everything about the Macan's interior feels like it's borrowed from the long, illustrious history of cars like the 911 Carrera, and you can still carry a bike if you fold down the rear seats. Thanks to its rounded design and compact dimensions, the Macan is slightly limited in overall cargo capacity, but if you're looking for a driver's car in this segment, this is it.

Luxury Midsize class

#24 Acura MDX

Like the smaller RDH, the 2017 Acura MDH is a luxury SUV without the heavy price tag. The Acura MDX offers three rows of seating, all of which are comfortable and spacious, but be aware that cargo space is very average. Excellent safety ratings, a quiet cabin, a smooth ride and impressive fuel economy round out the MDX's long list of practical strengths, but for a car this big, it's also very sporty.

#25 Audi Q7

No questions, updated Audi The 2017 Q7 is one of our top recommendations in the class. The excellent quality of finishing and selection of materials make the interior attractive from the moment you step into the car, while the supremely quiet interior on the highway ensures that it will be great car for long trips. The Q7 comes standard with a turbo 4-cylinder engine, but we recommend going with the supercharged V6, which propels the Q7 from zero to 60 mph in 6 seconds—an impressive figure for this class. The V6 also increases maximum towing from 2 to 3.5 tons, which is definitely strong.

#26 BMW X5

The 2017 BMW X5 is one of the most expensive cars in its class, and its trunk volume is less than that of the class leaders. However, we still think it's worth being here. Here you can choose from several different engines, including a turbo six, a turbo V8, a six-cylinder diesel, and even a plug-in hybrid with the ability to travel 22 km on electric power alone. As you'd expect from BMW, there's plenty of high-tech equipment available, such as a night vision camera system and 4-zone climate control. The X5 also comes with four years of free standard maintenance and enough standard options to satisfy almost any driver.

#27 Porsche Cayenne

Because of its impressive size, the 2017 Porsche Cayenne may seem too large to be sporty or agile. But don't let this big German SUV fool yourself. It's truly impressive - both on the straight and in the corners. Whether you're driving the standard turbo V6 or the powerful turbo V8, the Cayenne has more than enough spark to satisfy anyone with a heavy right foot. Whether you're heading into town, trying to escape the city, or heading out for a stroll through the hills, the Cayenne remains easy to drive. All the luxury features are in order too, with an exquisitely crafted interior and comfortable enough seating for any long journey.

#28 Volvo XC90

With style and sophistication throughout, the 2017 Volvo XC90 is unique in appearance and superb to drive. A common theme among our top recommendations in this class is that the XC90 handles like a much smaller car, and it has an available plug-in hybrid version - two features that give it a wide range of appeal. The second and third rows of seats have plenty of space, and as expected from a Volvo, it has top safety ratings, including a Top Score from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety due to its frontal system collision avoidance. The XC90 doesn't accelerate as quickly as some rivals or have as much noise insulation as the class leaders, but it still has a lot going for it and is high on our list.

Luxury Fullsize and Flagships

#29 Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class

Formerly known as GL, Mercedes GLS The 2017 model year is as big as you can get from Mercedes (cargo vans don't count). The GLS has plenty of space for adults in all three rows of seats, and there's no shortage of available luxury equipment. If you fold the second and third rows of seats in the GLS, you get a total of a whopping 2,650 liters of cargo space, which is competitive even in this segment. Among the notable options is the automatic parallel parking, ventilated front seats, adaptive suspension and even a dual-range transfer case for some added off-road prowess. And no Mercedes is truly complete until it has a performance-oriented AMG variant, so the GLS offers the AMG GLS 63, which comes with a 5.5-liter V8 and 577 horsepower.

#30 Land Rover Range Rover

One of the most iconic luxury SUVs on the market, the 2017 Land Rover Range Rover combines extreme off-road capability with a rich interior. Even if it lived its entire life in the city, the Range Rover would be impressive based solely on its smooth 8-speed transmission, quiet cabin and impeccable finishing. But no Range Rover should be relegated solely to city driving. This top-of-the-line SUV can also tackle challenging trails thanks to its Intelligent Automatic Response System. road surface and plenty of ground clearance to get over big rocks.

Analysis of crossover reliability based on owner reviews.

Reliability characteristics of Suzuki Grand Vitara:

The car is equipped with airbags and seat belts. The fastening on the belts is conveniently adjustable. There are blocks in the side doors. They protect in emergency situation from side impacts. In addition, the Suzuki has excellent visibility along the route. At night, powerful headlights equipped with reflectors help. For Russian conditions A strong galvanized steel body is very important. The body is covered with an anti-corrosion coating.

From reviews of happy owners of Suzuki Grand Vitara 2.4 AT:

Off-road there is no equal. Great car.

The driver with 47 years of driving experience has driven more than 60 car models. So, Vitara is the most optimal among all the characteristics. The concept of “slipping” is not for this car model.

From reviews of car owners about the advantages of the Toyota RAV4:

The roads in the village are bad - that's putting it mildly. So, on such roads the car drives very smoothly, does not throw up or sway to the sides. A cool thing is the electric power steering, which makes driving the car much easier. Large body capacity, sufficient visibility. If you need to drive around a curb or park on it, it’s “easy.” Excellent turning angle.

At low end the grip is better than good, but the engine revs during kickdown much faster than the automatic gearbox can settle down.

The small size of the car is quite satisfactory. Easily overcomes rails, curbs, streams, and grooves.

I’ve been driving a car for 2 years now, and I’m literally happy with it to the point of snot. There are no problems with spare parts, although my Toyota is no longer young, overhaul never had one, 70% of the spare parts are still factory. I have one problem - this is the radiator, it lasts 2 winters and I have to repair it or even change it.

Almost all Toyota RAV4 owners complain about poor sound insulation. This can be said to be the main drawback of the model. The Japanese most likely “failed” noise insulation; this applies not only to the engine itself, but also to the interior as a whole. A good "rattle". Among the technical shortcomings are problems with the horizontal stability levers.

Reliability characteristics of Honda Element:

In both frontal and side crash testing, the Honda Element scored five stars out of a maximum of five. However, in a side impact collision, there is a chance that the left rear passenger's head will hit the top of the vehicle's interior.

From the comments of Honda Element owners:

My experience in using Element is more than five years. So, the only biggest costs were in the fifth year of operation. The car's mileage during my time was more than 350,000 kilometers, the total mileage was more than 400,000 kilometers. Replaced the front and rear struts, balls, silent blocks of the rear suspension and front arms, rear wheel bearings, starter brushes, stabilizer bushings, engine mounts, support bearing, radiator and strut supports. Please note that for a car with such an impressive mileage, only the chassis has been repaired. This is an excellent example of car reliability. And the operation of the car was not at all gentle. Damn good car.

However, there are many Elements that begin to crumble after 120,000 kilometers.

From reviews of Honda Crosstour owners:

An interesting feature is the blind spot monitoring function. This function is performed by a video camera built into the side mirrors. It turns on simultaneously with the turn signal on. The video camera can be left on constantly for the safety of the car. The downside to the car is the large overhangs and large turning radius.

To summarize the above, based on official statistics and reviews from owners, undoubtedly the best crossover in terms of reliability can be called the Suzuki Grand Vitara, and behind it, and maybe even a little close, is the Toyota RAV4. But in any case, “you have to fall in love” with the car and it will serve you long and faithfully.
