Technical characteristics of Honda Pilot (2013). Honda Pilot - American crossover of the Japanese brand Honda Pilot dimensions dimensions

In January 2008, on the podium at the Detroit Auto Show Honda company presented a full-size crossover Pilot second generation (2009 model year), which reached car dealer shelves in the summer.

At the end of 2011, the Japanese “rogue” underwent a planned update, as a result of which it received slight differences from the pre-reform model. In particular, the car was given a redesigned front part with a different radiator grille and modified optics, and tail lights endowed with slightly different graphics.

In addition, the new product stands out rims new design and turn signals registered in the external mirrors. Spot changes also affected the interior: a “strict” center console (now it dark colors) yes color display large sizes in top performance. And finally, the restyled Honda Pilot has become longer by “as much as” 5 mm than its predecessor, and the engine has acquired a cylinder deactivation system.

Before the update in 2011, the 2nd generation Pilot crossover looked like this:

The 2nd generation has a brutal and courageous appearance, which is created through simple geometric shapes and muscular proportions. The front part of the crossover is topped with large rectangular optics and a large chrome grille radiator with three crossbars, in the center of which is the brand emblem. Front bumper with a two-level air intake and round PTF completes the composition.
But there were some controversial decisions - the headlights are completely halogen, and even for an additional payment, neither LEDs nor xenon are available on a car costing more than 2 million rubles.

The profile of the “rogue” looks solid, and it is emphasized by an abundance of straight lines: a flat roof, almost square windows and large doorways. Well, the most noticeable element is the wide wheel arches, accommodating wheels with a diameter of 17 inches. The stern of the Pilot boasts a rectangular tailgate, compact lights and a neat bumper with two pipes exhaust system(located symmetrically).

The solid appearance of the Honda Pilot is supported by the impressive body dimensions: 4875 mm in length, 1845 mm in height and 1995 mm in width. The wheelbase of the Japanese crossover is 2775 mm, and the ground clearance is 200 mm. The car is quite heavy - its curb weight exceeds 2 tons, and the total weight reaches 2765 kg.

As if the interior space of the second generation Honda Pilot was “cut down with an axe” in harmony with appearance. The devices are informative and non-trivial, and the readings from them are perfectly readable regardless of the conditions. The large multifunction steering wheel is clad in leather and has a comfortable shape, thanks to which it fits well into general concept interior

The dashboard and center console are decorated in the same simple style and the same straight lines that are dictated by the exterior of the Pilot. The front panel is endowed with chopped shapes, and contains an automatic transmission selector, control units for “music” and three-zone climate control, as well as a monochrome display at the very top (in the top version its place is reserved for an 8-inch diagonal color screen of the multimedia complex).

The 2nd generation Honda Pilot crossover is universal car, as evidenced by the eight-seat layout internal space. The comfortable front seats are unremarkable in appearance, but they hug the body nicely and have a moderately long cushion. The adjustment ranges are large, making it easy to find the optimal position.
The middle row of seats offers an unprecedented amount of space for three adults, available in all directions. Riders have access to an absolutely flat floor, a separate climate control unit, six cup holders, as well as adjustments to the sofa in the longitudinal position and the angle of the backrest. The “gallery” is designed for three people, but they cannot sit there for long, and access to the third row is not the most convenient.

With eight passengers on board the volume luggage compartment The Honda Pilot does not exceed 510 liters, but the correct shape ensures its trouble-free use. The second and third rows of seats are placed flush with the floor, so that the usable space can be increased to 1680 liters (there will be five seats left) or even up to 2464 liters. This results in a completely straight loading area and a wide opening. It is worth noting that the full-size spare tire is hidden under the bottom. The tailgate is equipped with an electric drive, but if you need to quickly load bulky cargo, you can only open the rear window.

Specifications. The second generation Honda Pilot is equipped with only one engine - a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated i-VTEC six with a V-shaped cylinder arrangement (factory designation J35Z4). The engine power is 249 horsepower, and at 4800 rpm a maximum torque of 347 Nm is generated. The unit is equipped with a VCM partial cylinder deactivation system, which allows it to use only three of the six cylinders at low loads.
The engine is equipped with a 5-speed automatic transmission and a VTM-4 all-wheel drive system, which together accelerate the heavy crossover to the first hundred in 9.9 seconds (the top speed is fixed at 180 km/h). For such readings you have to pay with decent fuel consumption - 11.6 liters of gasoline for every 100 km in mixed mode (15.8 liters in the city, 9.1 liters on the highway).

The Japanese “rogue” is not designed to conquer serious off-road conditions, but the capabilities of the VTM-4 all-wheel drive transmission are worth mentioning. Under normal conditions, up to 90% of the traction goes to the front wheels, but in the event of a quick start or slipping (this is monitored by a bunch of sensors), the necessary part of the torque goes to the rear axle. At speeds up to 30 km/h, the clutch can be completely locked, resulting in a torque distribution of 30:70.

The “second” Honda Pilot is built on the “trolley” model Acura MDX. The suspension features classic McPherson struts at the front and an intricate multi-link arrangement at the rear. Other technical features are: power steering, ventilated disc brakes, ABS and EBD on all wheels.

Options and prices. In 2015, you can purchase the 2nd generation Honda Pilot on the Russian market in three trim levels: Elegance, Executive and Executive Navi. The basic version of the car will cost 2,379,000 rubles, and it is equipped with a three-zone climate control system, ten airbags, a standard audio system, full power accessories, cruise control, a set of safety systems, heated front and rear seats and a hill start assist system.
For a crossover in the Executive version they ask for 2,649,000 rubles, and its distinctive features– this includes leather trim, electric front seat adjustments, a rear view camera, front and rear parking sensors, as well as roof rails.
The top-end Pilot Executive Navi package is offered in 2015 at a price of 2,739,000 rubles, and its prerogative is a multimedia system with an 8-inch color display and navigation and an audio system with 9 speakers (other versions have six).

Automobile Honda Pilot 2 combines many useful qualities. With eight comfortable seats and large trunk, suitable for large families and lovers of travel. Honda Pilot is equipped with a powerful 6-cylinder, V-shaped engine with an output of 249 hp, and some of the cylinders, when not needed, are turned off electronically to save fuel and resources.

Permanent all-wheel drive with electronic locking and quite high ground clearance 20 cm will allow you to easily drive along country roads and country roads.

Honda Pilot 2 review:

The first generation model began to be produced in the USA in 2002, in 2008 the second generation car was released and began to be sold in Russia. And in 2011, it was updated in the form of a restyled version, which will be discussed in this review.

Pilot 2 is produced at the company's plant in Alabama, USA. Its assembly is quite high quality and does not raise any questions.

The internal design of all elements is quite simple, materials The finishes are of average quality, the plastic panels are hard. The automatic transmission mode selector is unusually located, which is located not on the center console, but on the front panel. Due to this, the surface is about central armrest it is flat and its area is quite large. You can put documents, a tablet or other things here that should be at hand on the road.

The side edges and rubber base of the console will prevent things from sliding to the side when moving, so you can be sure that they will remain in their place. The salon has sufficient quantity other boxes and niches for things, as well as cup holders. For example, over glove box There is a recess with compartments for storing small items. It is in plain sight, so access to things is quick and convenient.

Salon:

The crossover interior is spacious, there is quite a lot of space inside. The front seats are comfortable and have lateral support. Side mirrors They are large, have parking sensors and a rear view camera, so there are no problems with visibility. The only drawback is the lack of electric folding mirrors. Parking brake, as well as the automatic transmission lever, is removed from the console and is activated using a pedal.

The 2nd row of seats is spacious, and thanks to three-zone climate control, you can set different temperatures for the driver, front and rear passengers. On the 3rd row of seats there is enough space for three adults if necessary passengers, but it will be a bit cramped for them; only two adults, teenagers or children can sit comfortably in these places.

When the seats are folded, a flat platform is formed on which two adults can sleep comfortably. For transportation of goods to luggage compartment can be loaded at the same time washing machine, TV, small refrigerator and microwave. The trunk dimensions are really impressive and allow you to take it on the road. required amount of things.

It can also easily accommodate a full-fledged baby stroller. Under the floor there is a drawer with compartments for things. This means that most of the things that are constantly present in the car will be in their places, and the luggage compartment itself will be empty and clean. To this number of advantages, you can also add the glass of the trunk door, which can be opened separately from the door itself. This is very convenient in confined spaces. Spare wheel is located under the bottom and does not interfere.

The noise insulation in the Pilot is very good; the sound of the road and city streets is not heard.

Engine:

Gas engine atmospheric. Its volume is 3.5 liters and its power is 249 hp. Thanks to this, the annual tax amount is relatively small. The power is enough to easily transport 700 kg in the back and a two-ton trailer. The engine has VCM cylinder deactivation system which helps save fuel. 3 or 4 cylinders out of six are turned off in various cases when their work is not needed.

For example, when uniform motion at constant speed or when there is no heavy load. Despite the presence of such a system, gasoline consumption is relatively high and amounts to about 15 liters in the city. This is quite normal considering the volume. And the recommended 92nd gasoline is itself economical.

The power unit is paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission which is controlled electronically. The gears in it switch almost without delay, there are modes for forced blocking differential- in first, second and reverse gear.

On the road When driving in a straight line, the car behaves confidently and steadily. Overtaking is easy, given more power engine and good automatic transmission performance. Handling is comparable to that of a passenger sedan.

The steering wheel is soft and turns easily. If you take turns at high speed, body roll is very noticeable. Therefore, it is better not to make sudden maneuvers and lane changes at speed. The lamps in the headlights, although halogen, shine quite well. When driving along the highway at night, the road is clearly visible, there is no lack of illumination.

Suspension:

Suspension in Pilot 2 it is quite soft. When the interior and trunk are empty, bumps are felt and shaken, but when fully or partially loaded, they pass unnoticed and are absorbed by the suspension, the car rides more smoothly. Loading has almost no effect on the dynamics; with things in the trunk and passengers, the car feels the same as when empty.

All-wheel drive controlled by the VTM-4 system. When starting from a standstill, the maximum torque is obtained rear wheels, in the case of a slippery surface, the moment is automatically redistributed between the wheels in such a way as to prevent slipping. When accelerating, the torque transmitted to the rear wheels gradually decreases and at high constant speed is transmitted only to the front wheels.

When you turn on the lock mode VTM-4 LOCK at speeds up to 10 km/h, the rear cross-axle differential is simulated locking, the maximum torque is transmitted to the rear axle, and it is the same for each wheel. When the speed increases, the mode is automatically disabled.

Technically, the all-wheel drive device in Pilot 2 is a hypoid transmission with high-strength gears. The axle shafts are connected through a multi-plate clutch - a clutch.
It is not recommended to turn on the locking mode on flat, dry surfaces; in this case, the mechanism may fail. This mode Intended only for surfaces such as mud, snow or hill climbs where normal operation would be difficult.

On light and medium off-road The crossover behaves quite confidently thanks to its ground clearance of 20 cm and short overhang angles. Country and forest roads, small ruts with mud, shallow snowdrifts, ascents and descents can be overcome without problems. In some cases it is better to disable the mode dynamic stabilization VSA for improved cross-country ability. It is better not to drive into difficult to pass places, there is a risk of getting stuck. For most trips to the country, nature and recreation, the vehicle's cross-country ability is quite enough.

Summary: brutal, masculine, big and enough powerful crossover for the city, trips to the country on weekends and travel.

Like it: families, travelers, fishermen, hunters.

Don't like it: for lovers of a stylish and unusual look, modern interior design.

Honda Pilot 2016 - 2018, generation III

The third generation Honda Pilot debuted at the Chicago Auto Show on February 12, 2015. It will not be difficult to distinguish the new product from its predecessor; the design of the model has changed radically. Brutal angular shapes and straight lines were replaced by smooth contours, flowing shapes and a swift silhouette. The crossover has stylish elongated headlights with sections of LED running lights. A massive radiator grille with large chrome-plated horizontally oriented ribs catches your eye, and at the bottom, along the edges of the bumper, there are small round fog lights. It's worth noting some off-road attributes. So, on the thresholds, bumpers and wheel arches you can see covers made of black unpainted plastic, designed to protect paintwork body panels from being hit by crushed stone and sand flying from under the wheels, and small roof rails are located on the roof.

Honda Pilot Dimensions

Honda Pilot has grown slightly in length, slightly in width and has become lower, its overall characteristics are: length 4954 mm, width 1997 mm, height 1788 mm, wheelbase 2820 mm, and the size ground clearance will be 200 mm. This is a solid indicator; such ground clearance, coupled with the all-wheel drive system, will allow you to confidently move not only along asphalt city streets, but also to overcome treacherous off-road conditions.

Size Honda trunk Pilot can only please you; with the third row seat backs raised, you have 524 liters of usable space at your disposal, this good indicator, such the car will do both for a Sunday shopping raid, and for a trip to the country or an outing with an abundance of luggage. But if, by a whim of fate, the crossover owner needs to transport a larger load, he will be able to fold down the backs of the second and third rows of seats, in the first case, 1583 liters of free space will be freed up, and in the second, as much as 3092 liters. In this case, the car can compete even with small commercial cargo vans.

Honda Pilot Engine and Transmission

Honda Pilot in the domestic market is equipped with one single engine and a six-speed automatic transmission variable gears. Although there is no choice as such, this pair is quite versatile and can reveal all aspects of such a multifaceted car. The crossover will appeal to both lovers of quiet and economical driving, as well as fans of drive.

The Honda Pilot's engine is a naturally-aspirated petrol V-six with a volume of 2997 cubic centimeters. Thanks to the solid volume of the combustion chambers and the variable valve timing system, the power unit is capable of developing 249 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 294 Nm of torque at 5000 rpm crankshaft in a minute. A solid herd under the hood of the crossover, whose dry weight is 2008 kilograms, is capable of accelerating the car to a speed of one hundred kilometers per hour in just 9.1 seconds, and the maximum speed will be 192 kilometers per hour. Despite the solid power and amazing dynamic characteristics, the crossover will not make you live but gas station. The fuel consumption of the Honda Pilot will be 14.3 liters of gasoline per hundred kilometers at a city pace with frequent acceleration and braking, 8.2 liters during a measured trip on the highway and 10.4 liters of fuel per hundred in the combined driving cycle.

Equipment

Honda Pilot has a rich technical stuffing, inside you will find a mass useful devices and clever systems designed to make your trip comfortable, interesting, and most importantly, safe. Thus, the car is equipped with: 10 airbags, a rear view camera, standard parking sensors, climate control, a multifunctional on-board computer, light and rain sensors, full power accessories, heated mirrors, windows, seats and steering wheel, an elevator driver's seat, alloy wheels, passive cruise control, tire pressure sensor, leather interior, a premium audio system with a standard navigation system, seat ventilation, a sunroof and even a pre-heater, which is especially important in our harsh climate.

Bottom line

Honda Pilot keeps up with the times; the crossover has a stylish and current design. Such a car will not merge with the gray everyday flow and will not get lost in the large parking lot of a shopping center. The salon is a kingdom of quality materials and comfort. Even long trip will not cause you even the slightest inconvenience. The ergonomics deserve special mention; the developers tried to ensure that all the necessary elements were at hand, and the controls were clear on an intuitive level and showed a refined character. The crossover is equipped with a lot of useful devices and technical innovations designed to make the car easier to operate and entertain you on the road. The automaker understands perfectly well that a car is not a toy and, first of all, it should give pleasure while driving, which is why under the hood of the crossover there is a powerful and modern engine, which is the quintessence of innovative technologies, many years of experience in the field of engine building and legendary Japanese quality. Honda Pilot will last for many kilometers and give unforgettable emotions.

Honda Pilot 2017-2018 is a Japanese crossover that has been known in most markets around the world for many years. The first models were available only on the American car market, but the car was actively imported into the CIS by enterprising individuals. Automotive market The Russian Federation was actively developing, so the company’s management decided to supply the second generation, released in 2008, to Russia.

Although I didn’t receive the model widespread, but the competition is popular mid-size crossovers I was able to compile it, and in 2016, deliveries of the current third generation to the Russian market begin. Its official debut took place at the Chicago Auto Show in 2015.

After a while, information appeared about the creation of a new generation Honda Pilot by Japanese engineers, but the rumors were not confirmed. The model has only been restyled. The car itself is significantly different from its predecessors and has an identical platform to the.

The ideology has completely changed, it moved away from square shapes, increased in size and acquired smoother lines. As for the increase in dimensions, these are serious changes, for example, the length has increased by 80 millimeters, the wheelbase has increased by 45 millimeters. Despite the increased dimensions, engineers were able to shed an extra 135 kilograms from the car, and body rigidity became 25% greater. This is due to the use of high-strength steels.

Design

As mentioned above, the updated third-generation Honda Pilot has lost the boxy shape of its predecessors and has become more like its younger brother in the line - in a more bloated form. Despite the abundance of smooth lines and harmonious proportions, the car remains just as brutal.

At the front, your attention is immediately drawn to the massive false radiator grille, which has three cross bars. One of them extends far beyond the grille and continues on the front optics, almost to the far corner of the headlight. The front bumper looks massive and has an X-shaped appearance. It contains openings for air intakes and fog lights located at the very bottom. By the way, the lower part of the bumper in most cases is not painted. The lower part of the rear bumper and side sills are also not painted. This is one of the hints at the car's off-road capabilities. The front optics have many sharp angles, and C-shaped running lights are located along its edge. Also striking from the front are the powerful stampings on the hood, which smoothly move from its edges to the center.

There is also curly stamping on the doors, which gives a certain expressiveness. The side view of the Honda is complemented by dark housings for the side mirrors, which have aerodynamic shapes. There is also a beautiful chrome-plated glass surround. And the side image of the 2017-2018 Pilot is completed by “weighty” 18-inch alloy wheels.

The rear of the car doesn't have as much pomp. The rear bumper has a more neat shape. In the center of the unpainted part of the bumper there is a chrome molding, which at the end merges with the lights reverse. The trunk lid glazing has an oval shape, and a massive spoiler is located above it. Rear optics has an L-shaped appearance, and most of them are located on the wings.

Overall, the design looks very dynamic, while maintaining the company's classic design and elements that hint at the fact that this is a full-fledged SUV.

Much has already been said above about the impressive dimensions of the Honda Pilot, so it’s worth familiarizing yourself with them:

  • length is 4.94 meters;
  • the width is slightly less than two meters and is 1996 mm;
  • height – 1773 mm;
  • the wheelbase was stretched to 2819 mm;
  • The ground clearance for such a car is a little small - 185 mm.

Salon

The interior is the crossover's strongest point. Honda has always had original design solutions, and the dimensions of the car gave full rein to imagination. Overall, it turned out to be very stylish and bright, and most importantly spacious. But from the already fed up saturated blue lights they never got rid of it. The third generation features a completely new instrument panel with a mixed combination of dials shaped like semicircles with a pronounced visor. The Honda Pilot speedometer now has the form of a digital screen, next to which there is another screen, but this one of the on-board computer.

The central console is vaguely reminiscent of the TLC 200 console: 8-inch display multimedia system, on either side of which there are two powerful deflectors surrounded by aluminum edging. Immediately below the display there is a climate control unit, a player, a small niche and the center console opens into a tunnel with a gear shift control unit, on the side of which there are cup holders.

The steering wheel is strewn with a large number of buttons and two joysticks.

The seats are large and comfortable, accessible big variety settings. Ventilated and heated seats are also available. Materials used in interior decoration High Quality: leather, soft plastic, aluminum and wood inserts. The car has three rows of seats. The second usually consists of two separate chairs, and the third is a solid “sofa”. For the second row of the Honda Pilot, a huge climate control unit, AUX inputs, socket and much more are available, and in the roof there is a folding monitor with its own control unit.

The luggage compartment volume is 600 liters, and if the second row seats are folded, then in a straight field the volume increases to 3050 liters.

Specifications

The third generation is equipped with a Honda Earth Dreams V-shaped six-cylinder power unit, which is complemented by direct fuel injection and variable valve timing. The car also contains technology that allows you to turn off the cylinders at low loads, saving fuel and engine life.

There are two available for buyers technical modifications, but one is for US buyers, and the second is for Russian buyers. Engine American version has a working volume of 3.5 liters, which allows you to develop maximum power 280 horsepower and a torque of 356 Nm. This engine would not have taken root in the Russian market for one simple reason - tax. For this reason, a three-liter modification is supplied to the Russian market, which allows you to develop the tax-optimal 249 horsepower. The torque, which is available at its maximum value only at 5000 rpm, was 294 Nm.

The American modification works with a 9-speed automatic transmission, and for Russian buyers a six-speed automatic transmission is standard. The car has permanent all-wheel drive, but again for the US markets there is a modification with front-wheel drive.

Acceleration in the third generation has completely lost its explosive character; it occurs slowly and linearly. Nevertheless, you can accelerate to 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds, and the car can accelerate to 192 km/h.

According to the application Japanese manufacturer, Honda Pilot 2017-2018 is fully certified for 92-octane gasoline and, despite its weight of 1900 kg, has the following fuel consumption indicators per 100 kilometers:

  • in the urban cycle - 14.3 liters;
  • in the extra-urban cycle – 8.2 liters;
  • in the mixed cycle - 10.5 liters.

Suspension

As already mentioned, the model shares a common platform with the Acura MDX, which is why many technical units they are identical.

The front suspension is independent. It is based on racks. For the rear axle, engineers provided for the installation of an independent multi-link design. The new Pilot also features an updated electric power steering with the ability to change characteristics.

The braking system is equipped with disc devices on all wheels. Ventilation is available for the front ones.

Honda Pilot Price

The machine is supplied to the Russian market in three trim levels with different prices:

  • Lifestyle – 2 million 999 thousand rubles
  • Executive – 3 million 299 thousand rubles
  • Premium – 3 million 550 thousand rubles.

This is an excellent car that meets modern consumer requirements. Even off-road, it shows its best side, because it has the SH-AWD system, which allows you to simulate a center differential lock.

It is nice and spacious, comfort is on high level, but competitors provide better assembly and more expensive finishing materials, and the owners are unlikely to ever have to achieve the consumption that the manufacturer talks about.

The disadvantages also include the car’s handling and payment for options that are available from competitors already in basic modification. It is also worth recalling that the 2017-2018 Honda Pilot is not new story model, but only a restyling of the car shown to the public back in 2015.
