Polishing the car yourself. Do-it-yourself car polishing. Preliminary preparation of the car for polishing

Polishing a car is a technological process that extends the life of the paintwork and the body itself. No matter how quality paintwork, it breaks down over time. The body is affected by natural, chemical and mechanical factors. Solar radiation, wind, precipitation, reagents on the roads, dirt and stones flying from under the wheels lead to loosening and erosion of the surface layer, the appearance of microchips and scratches. The car no longer shines, and the resulting damage gradually grows and leads to corrosion of body elements.

It is better to entrust body processing to car service specialists. However, if you are experiencing financial difficulties or simply like to tinker with your car, then try polishing your car yourself. The process is labor-intensive and time-consuming, but quite doable.

Step-by-step instructions for polishing a car

You need to start by purchasing the appropriate products for processing. The wide variety of them on the market causes confusion. Therefore, it is better for beginners to choose an understandable and convenient system polishing "Color Code" from the company ZM. The products presented in the line are three types of universal pastes, each of which is intended for a specific stage of processing. The color of the polish cap matches the color of the corresponding polishing wheel. This gradation guarantees the correct polishing technology and prevents accidental contamination of the wheels with products with other abrasive characteristics.

The processing is carried out indoors - technological processes polishing prevents exposure to sunlight and dust. We provide good ventilation and multi-point lighting.

Necessary devices and tools

To polish your car yourself you will need:

  • A polishing machine with a power of 1000 W, with operating modes of 1000-2000 revolutions (if you are not going to polish professionally, then rent or borrow the device);
  • Clean microfiber cloths and mittens;
  • Two types of car shampoo - for manual and contactless car wash;
  • Portable car wash;
  • Suede leather;
  • Cleaning clay and spray lubricant;
  • Kit for touching up chips
  • Abrasive polishing paste (3M 50417 - bottle with green cap), green polishing pad;
  • Non-abrasive polishing paste (3M 80349 – bottle with yellow cap), yellow circle;
  • Anti-hologram non-abrasive paste (3M 50383 – bottle with a blue cap), blue polishing wheel;
  • 3M test spray (optional);
  • Protective polish (3M 09377 – bottle with a red cap);

Car polishing stages

  1. We clean the surface of the car from dust and dirt using a contactless car wash. After this, we apply shampoo with a pistol and wash the car manually with a microfiber mitten.
  2. Complex contaminants – metal and brake dust, adhering insects, tree resin, bitumen stains– remove with clay. To do this, we cut the block into 5-6 parts so that it is convenient to hold in your hand. Knead the cut piece, flatten it and lengthwise in a circular motion move directly over the wet, soapy surface, pressing lightly. We periodically crush the cake, removing dirt deep into the piece. Throw away a heavily contaminated piece of clay and replace it with a new one. We process each panel separately.
  3. Wash and dry the car. We inspect it - if there are still such contaminants, then we treat it locally with a lubricant spray and again with clay. Dry the body thoroughly with microfiber cloths or suede.
  4. We remove chips - fill them with paint according to the level of the paintwork using a toothpick. We cover the smeared areas with varnish and leave the car for a day to dry.
  5. We proceed directly to polishing the car. We do not process the entire body at once, but individual elements. Apply the paste pointwise to the body part to be processed and to the polishing pad (only for initial wetting). We perform two or three smearing movements without turning on the machine. Then we distribute the product evenly over the surface of the element onto low revs. We reach the operating mode of 1500-2000 rpm and polish until a paste is produced with medium pressure. Wipe off excess composition immediately and leave for no longer than a minute. Dried, hardened polish is very difficult to remove. We complete each stage by treating with a test spray, which removes residual product and controls the quality of removal of small marks.
  6. The first stage of polishing is treatment with abrasive polishing paste. We use polish with a green cap and a green circle. Special attention It is worth paying attention to areas with defects - scratches, processed chips, severe dullness, clouding. At this stage, the paintwork is leveled and becomes smooth.
  7. To remove stains left after abrasive processing and add shine to the surface, use yellow paste in combination with a yellow polishing wheel.
  8. After the previous stages of processing, circular micro-risks remain on the surface of the paintwork. In bright light, they create a hologram effect on dark-colored bodies. Light-colored cars are not subject to such danger. Therefore, cars painted in dark colors, additionally treated with blue polish. During the anti-hologram polishing stage, we move the machine without pressure in overlapping figure eights.
  9. And the last stage. We create protection for the surface of the paintwork using a polish with a red cap. This way the gloss will remain for a long time and will not disappear after the first wash of the car. Polish using a microfiber mitten or cloth in a circular motion. Remove excess protective paste with a waffle napkin.

After polishing, the surface of the body is smoothed and acquires gloss and water-repellent properties. A polished car increases the social status of the driver. Clean and shiny, it looks attractive and expensive, earning the respect of others.

If your car has lost its original shine, small scratches and chips have appeared on its surface, then you should think about it. This will not be difficult to do. You can contact a car service center, where for a certain amount your car will be brought into proper shape. Or you can use the recommendations on how to polish your car yourself. So, let's try to give the paintwork a shiny look.

How to polish a car with your own hands: assessing the nature of the damage

First, you should make sure that the parts do not require repainting. Minor scratches and abrasions can be removed yourself. If you use the method, be aware that in the process a layer of enamel about 5 microns thick is removed. The factory paint is 100-150 microns thick, meaning you can use 10-15 polishing cycles and be sure that you won't reach the primer layer. To be completely sure that polishing will not wear through the enamel to holes, measure the thickness of the paint in several places using a thickness gauge. If everything is fine, we move on to choosing a polish.

How to polish a car with your own hands: choosing materials

In order to choose the right polishing paste, you should pay attention to the nature of the damage. If there is a network of small scratches, then you need a restorative polish - abrasive and a mixture containing a reduced amount of grinding particles. For deep scratches, polishes with a color-enriching effect are well suited. If the problem is cloudy spots on the coating, then a restorative paste without abrasive particles will be sufficient. In addition to the polish, you need to choose the right one for each paste. After polishing, the coating becomes thinner and requires additional protection in the form of a special paste. It should be selected according to the color of your car.

How to polish a car with your own hands: surface preparation

You have selected the necessary materials. But before you polish your car yourself, you first need to properly prepare it. First, wash and dry. Remove traces of midges, bitumen and anti-corrosion. You can use special compounds or ordinary white spirit. If you are polishing outside, then choose non-sunny weather, without rain, with comfortable temperature. If possible, it is better to carry out polishing in a garage or a special box with good exhaust hood. Make sure there is good lighting, otherwise some defects may go unnoticed. Cover up deep scratches and chips before priming with special tape.

How to polish a car with your own hands: getting the job done

Polishing can be done manually or using a power tool. In the manual method, the paste is applied to a special lint-free cloth and rubbed over the body. Then you need to wait some time for the composition to dry and perform circular polishing until a shine appears. Pay attention to specified time drying on a jar of pasta. Following the recommendations will allow you to achieve best result. Polishing a car yourself with deep scratches requires the use of additional tools. It is best to use if you do not have one at your disposal, then a drill with a special attachment will do. This polishing is performed first with an abrasive paste to remove severe scratches, then with a “soft” mixture to create shine. After polishing, apply to the surface protective layer.

Today everything is more in fashion. This is facilitated by the overly inflated price that car repair shops demand for the service, and the desire to gain aesthetic pleasure in the painting process - a task that is akin to real art.

Why polishing is needed

What is body paint? As you know, it does not last forever. Over time, the surface of the body is affected by many negative factors, including temperature changes, which can lead to complete harm. It is not recommended to keep the car in the sun, rain or hail for a long time. But still, even if the owner takes all measures to protect the paintwork, it will eventually require repairs.

What happens to the coating? Cracks and chips form on it, sometimes not immediately noticeable. A large amount of dust and dirt gradually accumulates in them, and the paintwork loses its former shine. Real tunnels can form on the surface, reaching the metal, which become real centers of future corrosion - a terrible disease of cars.

And if this process is started and nothing is done in a timely manner, then you can see a fatal outcome. And even polishing will not save the coating. In this case, it will be necessary to repaint the body, which is not an easy and scrupulous task. It is unlikely that this will be easy to do and you will have to spend a lot of money to give the car a normal appearance.

Video about why car polishing is needed:

After painting, even the most high-tech, it can be difficult to avoid some obvious defects. These include paint smudges, graininess of the varnish surface, color inconsistency after drying, dull spots in various areas, and much more. And you have to grind the surface, and then polish it thoroughly.

But, as mentioned above, polishing helps not only to give an aesthetic appearance. It is able to eliminate common surface defects that arise over time. We are talking about the same cracks, chips and similar phenomena. Polishing in this case is a paint coating and protects against various types of mechanical damage.

Polishing - do it yourself

We seem to have figured out why polishing is needed. Now let's talk about how to carry out such an operation. About taking a car to service center, and there is no question, unless, of course, you have everything in order with extra money. There they will turn the car into a “candy” of a jack-of-all-trades. However, we are looking at a different case.

It is clear that without necessary tools and materials, there can be no talk of any competent process. For normal operation at home we will need:

  • polishing machine, preferably professional;
  • special wheels for polishing (rough and soft processing);
  • special napkins or cotton rag;
  • high-quality polish;
  • White Spirit.

Which polish to choose

Before you start polishing, you should understand the types and types of polishes. The entire outcome of the future process depends on this main element. As you know, polishes are divided into two main types. One type of polish is called powder polish and contains various abrasive substances that easily remove small cracks and scratches.

As for the second type of polishes, they have a gel-like form and are able to fill all the cracks, forming a protective layer. Gel polishes are designed for polishing while the paintwork is still fresh.

Video demonstrating the polishing process with pastes:

Before you go shopping, you should determine the condition of your car's paintwork. This is a very important stage in the work, and it is advisable to entrust this task to a knowledgeable person. Some even visit a car service center where they are given free advice.

Polishing scratches on a car whose body is coated small scratches, which is especially noticeable after washing the car on a bright sunny day, forces the purchase of two types of polishes. It is necessary abrasive polish and a mixture of polish with a lean amount of grinding particles. Abrasive paste will help remove the varnish layer down to the bottom of the cracks. And when choosing polishes of this type, you should take into account the size of the defects: the deeper they are, the higher the content of abrasive substances in the composition should be.

Experts often advise using polishes with a color-enriching effect. For example, if the car is still new, then such polishes can quickly remove cloudy spots on the paintwork. In addition, as mentioned above, for such cars it will be enough to purchase gel-like pastes that do not contain abrasive substances.

There is one more important fact to know. Abrasive polishes can only grind. In other words, they only smooth out the enamel, removing a thin layer from the outside. And the coating itself thereby becomes more vulnerable. To protect it, you need to apply a paste on top with a gel or some other base.

In addition, it is important to know that the polish may depend on the color of the paintwork. After all, the composition of polishes also differs in its consistency and areas of application. And, of course, what is important for Russian buyer, price also plays a significant role here.

The most popular today are polishes with a paste composition. Due to their thick consistency, they are able to adhere to vertical surfaces and can be used to treat the car from all sides. It is very convenient to work with them. Although they are much more expensive, they are bought more because they also contain substances that saturate the color.

As for liquid polishes, they tend to quickly drain from vertical and inclined surfaces. They are recommended for use on parts of the car such as the trunk, hood and roof. But they also have a slight advantage over polishes with a thick consistency. They do not wear the varnish down to the ground, and they can be used to polish surfaces for a long time.

Aerosol polishes are also extremely convenient to use. Although such polishes contain a considerable amount of solvents and propellants that promote rapid spraying. This significantly reduces the presence of polishing agents in aerosol formulations.

Preliminary preparation of the car for polishing

Like any other task, polishing requires careful preparation. The first thing you need to do is wash the car thoroughly. To do this, you can use car shampoo and then let the surface dry completely. And at the end, when it is already clear that the surface has dried, treat it with a cotton rag or a special napkin, thereby conducting a control shot and eliminating all remaining droplets of moisture.

If any stains or other similar defects are found, you should try to remove them using white spirit. And it is also important that protective polishing is carried out on a surface that is completely free of small particles of dirt and grains of sand. These small components can cause serious harm to the entire business. Therefore, after washing the car, it is imperative to treat the surface with a cloth.

Polishing with ESM and manually

As mentioned above, body polishing is carried out using a special machine. The surface should be treated slowly. You need to ensure that the machine passes over all parts of the surface, without leaving a single area. First of all, you need to treat the surface with a harder wheel with a medium-abrasive composition, and then change the wheel. If the car is new, then it is not recommended to treat it with a hard wheel for a long time. After a few minutes of work, it needs to be replaced with a wheel designed for finer processing, which does not contain abrasive substances.

It is important to know that polishing a car should be carried out in parts, which will not allow the polish composition to dry out before subsequent processing. And it is advisable to do each one twice, in order to avoid missing any part.

After this, when the machine has done its first job, you need to apply a small amount of protective polish to the surface. It could be the same gel polish. Then rub this composition with a rag until it dries completely. And on the machine you need to change the speed, setting it to low speed, and continue polishing. Normal polishing of the surface with a machine should take about two hours. There is no need to rush here. You need to put your soul into your work.

If you don’t have a machine, the polishing process can be done by hand. By the way, the Japanese, who ate the dog in this matter, polish the car only by hand. With this method of polishing, a person comes into contact with the car, feels it better and applies the polish much better. Here it is important to arm yourself with considerable patience.

When processing manually, the polish should be applied to a lint-free cloth and distributed evenly over the surface of the car. After this, you need to wait a while until the mixture dries and polymerizes, and then begin polishing in a circular motion with a clean cloth. Polish until the surface acquires a mirror shine. The greatest effect can be achieved if you follow the manufacturer's recommendations specified in the instructions for the non-abrasive type polish mixture.

If deep scratches are noticeable on the surface of the car, then you can’t do without a machine. An eccentric grinder, or ESH, is specifically designed for this. In this case, the car polishing paste will be rubbed in much more deeply. By the way, if you still can’t find such a machine, you can use a regular drill with high revs. A special attachment is put on the tool and the polishing effect will be the same.

Polishing surfaces with deep cracks and chips

This procedure is carried out in two stages. First you need to treat the surface with a paste with an abrasive component, which will help remove rough scratches. This is the first stage of polishing, which in turn needs to be divided into two parts. First, we treat the surface with a polish with a medium abrasive composition and using hard circles.

The first part of the initial stage of polishing the surface with abrasive components, or abrasive polishing, implies and correct setting ESHM. In this case, its revolutions will need to be set to 2000, and the machine should be moved evenly over the surface, in no case pressing it by force. It is recommended to pre-moisten the foam rubber with water.

The second part of polishing involves treating the surface with low-dose abrasive components and a wheel with a softer structure.

The second stage of polishing will require changing the rotation speed of the electric machine by 1000 rpm. And a paste that does not contain abrasive substances should already be used. What is important here is the trajectory of the ESM, which should be carried out in such a way that each subsequent layer does not run over the previous one, but lies parallel. It is very important.

Experts advise those who are not confident in their abilities not to start polishing their car right away. It’s better to start by practicing on a fender or hood that you have lying around somewhere in the garage.

Video about polishing a car with your own hands:

That, in fact, is all. We hope that the tips given above will help you polish in a way that you yourself will enjoy later. You can enjoy the fabulous shine twice as much, since you did the polishing yourself!

An article about how to properly polish a car yourself, what to look for when polishing, tools and materials. At the end of the article - visual video about polishing the car body!

The content of the article:

Over time, under the influence of external factors, the car loses its gloss and shine, the paint and varnish coating loses its brightness and richness - this is the first signal that it is time to polish the car. But first you need to figure out what is the reason for the loss of the appearance of the “iron friend”.

The paintwork of a car consists of several layers: phosphate protective film, primer and several layers of paint. In a new car, this multi-layer cake has “pores” and breathes through them.

As a result of use, exposure to ultraviolet rays and temperature changes, the surface of the body paint becomes covered with small cracks, small chips, mostly invisible to the naked eye. Dust and pieces of dirt that accumulate over time in microdamages impair the reflective ability of the coating, and the car loses its original shine. The formation of deeper damage on the paint surface leads to exposure of the metal. And this can cause the formation of rust - the worst ailment of a car.

Rules for polishing

In order to get a satisfactory result when polishing with your own hands, you need to fulfill five simple and accessible conditions:
  • The surface to be polished must be absolutely clean, i.e. The car body must be thoroughly washed. By specialized means remove drops of tar and traces of insects.
  • Polishing should be carried out in a clean room. All available measures must be taken to prevent dust particles from entering the premises.
  • To maintain health, the polishing area must be well ventilated. Dust generated during operation can be removed with a vacuum cleaner.
  • It is advisable to avoid exposure of the treated surfaces to direct sunlight. This will complicate the work because it will speed up the drying of the working composition. In order to detect defects in a timely manner workplace must be equipped with several sources of artificial lighting. The backlight should be positioned evenly, without significant differences in illumination.
  • Before you begin polishing, you should critically inspect the surfaces. Discovered deep chips can be sealed with specialized tape, but dents will require alignment. A special method is used for deep polishing of scratches and chips. If possible, all plastic and rubber parts are dismantled or sealed with tape, and the headlights are removed or sealed. Masking parts prevents contamination and damage.

Steps for performing simple polishing

If there are no pronounced and rough defects on the surface, then simple polishing can be used. To perform the procedure yourself, apply a special polish to a microfiber cloth, then carefully and evenly distribute it over the entire surface to be treated. When will it become noticeable white coating– the polish has dried, which means the time has come for final polishing to a shine.

You should not let the polish dry completely - it will be more difficult to achieve an even layer, and in general this will complicate the work.

As practice shows, a perfectly smooth and shiny surface can be obtained by making 10-20 movements within a small area. In the instructions for any polish, the manufacturer recommends simple polishing every 4-6 weeks.

Stages of deep polishing

Using deep polishing car body, you can save the surface of the car from scratches. To carry out the operation you will need special tools and materials:
  • Fine (p2000) and very fine (p2500) sandpaper;
  • Pure water;
  • Rubber block.
Using the listed materials and tools, all large scratches are polished. Large scratches include those that can be detected by fingertips. As soon as the scratch is no longer perceived by the fingertip, it and the area around it are sanded with fine sandpaper.

To increase the elasticity of sandpaper, it is soaked for 15-20 minutes in advance. You should also take care in advance of an additional container for rinsing the sandpaper during work.

As a result of the manipulations, the entire treated area should become homogeneous. To obtain a more pronounced effect, sand using cross-shaped movements. It happens that there is a large area with a lot of damage - it is recommended to break it into smaller areas and sand them one after another. The roof can be divided into 4 parts, and the hood into two.

One more thing. It's better to leave shallow scratch, which will not be noticeable on the updated mirror surface. If you overdo it and rub the varnish down to the paint, this can only be corrected by a complete repainting.

You can improve the adhesion of polish and paintwork by degreasing the surface by special means deep cleaning. The surface prepared in this way is moistened and polishing paste is applied. The paste is distributed using a special machine for polishing surfaces at low speeds.

Gradually the speed of the machine can be increased. The tool in your hands should make smooth, unhurried movements, lingering a little longer in problem areas to obtain a better, uniform result. Do not overdo it, the machine may overheat, so do not work on one area for a long time.

The polishing wheel should not dry out completely - moisten it periodically. But in moderation, the paste should not fly in all directions.

We remove cracks and scratches under the handles by hand. First, using sandpaper R2000, and then using a felt wheel with a coarse paste, we treat the surface under the handles. Additional measures are usually not required.

Restorative polishing removes minor surface scratches and returns the original appearance of the paintwork. The process of removing the top layer of enamel and varnish begins. The refreshed surface is polished. It is permissible to carry out no more than 20 such operations, since further the paintwork is damaged.

To protect the car body from the effects of precipitation and other weather factors, as well as in preparation for sale, use protective polishing. In this case, the entire body is subjected to processing. Protect from weather factors with silicone-containing preparations. To protect the intact paintwork of old cars, a soft protective polish is used.

High-quality protective polishes remain on the surface for up to 5-6 months, depending on the characteristics of use and storage, and the frequency of washing. The recommended frequency is 2 times a year. They carry out procedures in a complex of works to prepare the car for the summer and winter seasons.

With high-quality polishing, the car owner postpones the time of complex painting. In addition, a job well done will give the car's coating a new, vibrant life. You can be proud that you yourself got an excellent result and saved your budget.

Polishing materials, tools and equipment

To carry out high-quality polishing and grinding, it is necessary to have materials of the appropriate level:
  • Preferably a professional polishing machine;
  • A set of polishing wheels of different hardness (it is better not to use orange ones);
  • Microfiber cloths or cotton rags;
  • High-quality polish;
  • White Spirit.
The most important thing is to choose the right sander. The speed of movement of empty hands is not high enough, so we choose a machine with a speed of 1 to 3 thousand revolutions per minute. Preference should be given to a wired model, since battery options have a short operating cycle and require recharging. The machine can be equipped with polishing and grinding wheels. You can try to get by with an electric drill - in this case you will need to purchase wheels for grinding and polishing, as well as adapters for them.

Of the entire set of tools, the polishing wheel is the simplest. They come in two types: felt and foam. Both types differ in the level of hardness - it must correspond to the hardness of the paste used. The hardness of a circle is most easily determined by color:

  • The hardest ones are white (hard paste);
  • The softest are black (soft paste);
  • Orange circles are suitable for all types of pastes.
There is no clear correspondence between paste and circles; everything is determined by the condition of the car’s paintwork, the depth and severity of scratches and damage.

Choosing a polish

Before purchasing the product, you should determine the degree and depth of damage to the paintwork. This is very important point, and you need to treat it with the utmost care.

By chemical composition Polishes are divided into wax (animal and vegetable origin) and polymer (synthetic). Silicone and wax compounds can withstand a maximum of 2 washes. Their use gives a wonderful, deep, but short-lived effect.

Polymer coatings have a margin in terms of durability, but they are more expensive and more difficult to work with. We recommend using only high-quality, proven polishes, degreasers and wipes.

There are a large number of different polishes on the market. All diversity can be divided into two groups:

  • Powder, the effect of which is due to the abrasive substances contained in the composition. This group of polishes works well on minor scratches.
  • Gel-like – filling cracks and forming a protective layer on the surface. Manufacturers usually recommend their use for polishing freshly painted and new cars.
In Russia, paste polishes have become most popular. Thanks to their consistency, they are held on vertical surfaces; the car body can be easily processed from all sides. Despite their slightly higher cost, they are also preferred for their additional color saturation properties.

Liquid polishes, unlike paste ones, quickly drain even from surfaces inclined at a slight angle. It is most convenient to polish the roof, trunk and hood lids with them.

The obvious advantage of liquid polish is the inability to erase the varnish down to the ground, so you can use them as often as you like.

Aerosol polishes are convenient to use, but the substances that make them volatile reduce the content of the polishing agent.

Video about polishing a car body:

It is possible to polish a car body manually without any tools. Some car enthusiasts believe that polishing without a machine is an unnecessary luxury, however, this is not entirely true. Manual polishing of a car also has a technical effect, protecting the car from contamination, which ultimately leads to corrosion and destruction.

Polishing headlights and glass is very important - microcracks and scratches can impair visibility and reduce brightness.

What kind of polishing is there?

Exists hand polishing body and using tools. Do-it-yourself automated car polishing is not yet a guarantee of receiving excellent result. It will help reduce working time, but the manual method will provide better gradation of the abrasive.

How to polish a car by hand? Treatment of the surface of the car coating begins with the use of sandpaper. A larger abrasive will remove large defects, but if used improperly it can cause harm. You can also use fine sandpaper for this, but in this case you will have to spend a lot of effort and time.

Polishing a car body with your own hands has the following advantages:

  1. No need to pay for the service.
  2. Gaining your own experience.
  3. There is no risk of damaging the polished surface with a machine.

The car body is often exposed to various sources of pollution - dust, sand, insects, small stones, as well as chemicals from roads and acid rain. Chemical components and salts first damage the paintwork of the car, and then begin to have a detrimental effect on the body.

Polish restores protective covering, penetrating into scratches and cracks and filling them.

The polish will not remove dirt and bitumen stuck to the road, so before starting work you should thoroughly clean the surface of the car using a special liquid.

Stages of work

  1. Wash the car body with water and regular detergent.
  2. More detailed and thorough cleaning, elimination of stubborn dirt and bitumen traces.
  3. Degreasing the surface.
  4. Applying polish to the body.
  5. Drying the car.

Degreasing is carried out by usual means, for example, white spirit. A clean, lint-free rag or a special napkin is suitable for this purpose. It is best to do this in a ventilated box at room temperature.

Applying polish

The container with the polishing compound is thoroughly shaken. The composition is applied little by little to small areas. It is better not to apply the product to an area of the surface to be treated larger than 50x50 cm. The liquid must be rubbed with a soft cloth, preferably with special polishing cloths, which sometimes come complete with the product itself.

Polishing a car with your own hands should be carried out using sufficient effort; you need to rub the product until the surface receives sufficient shine and luster. The polish begins to dry 10–12 minutes after application.

Complete hardening of the composition occurs after 24 hours, but you can use the car after 3-4 hours.

Which polish should you choose for your car? There may be several options. On average, this composition costs about 2,000 rubles and is sold in a 1-liter container.

When polishing a car body with your own hands, you should consider the following factors that can affect the quality of work:

  1. Dust levels in the air and walls at the work site. It is recommended to settle excess dust by spraying water.
  2. Polymerization of the polishing composition can last up to 2 months; during this time, you cannot use other compositions for treating the body.
  3. It is recommended to use the product in small portions.
  4. It is recommended to change polishing cloths.
  5. It is better to seal plastic parts with masking tape, since getting the product on them can cause stains.

Restorative polishing

The paintwork of a car cannot withstand more than 4 such procedures, so this treatment should only be used if there are problems on the body. noticeable scratches, chips and dirt stains.

The process of this procedure is similar to that described above, but it has one more step - processing with synthetic clay.

Work with it occurs after degreasing the surface to be treated.

Stages of processing with synthetic clay:

  1. Moisten the area to be treated with a cleanser.
  2. Crush the clay with your hands on the contaminated area.
  3. Wipe the surface with a cloth.
  4. If the effect is not achieved, repeat.

After this, you need to mat the treated area with a moistened abrasive, which is also pre-moistened with a spray bottle. It is not recommended to process the surface in a chaotic manner.

The last stage of restoration treatment occurs with the use of polishing pastes. They should be fine powder or non-abrasive. If the paint underneath the varnish is dark, you must use non-abrasive pastes. A light-colored body can be brought to the desired state with a fine abrasive paste.

To work with polishing pastes, certain foam pads are required. For each type of paste, its own type of foam rubber is selected, which differs in hardness and density. The paste is applied to the foam rubber and rubbed in a circular motion.

The final stage is protective treatment.
