Unified optics would save pennies, because all the other elements were developed from scratch anyway. And it turned out quite harmoniously.

What is the trunk volume? If loaded “under the curtain” - 430 l. But the sedan is indicated as much as 480 liters! Does the liftback really have 50 liters less? No! The thing is that AvtoVAZ changed the measurement methodology: they estimated the capacity of the sedan trunk with balls, and in cargo compartment the liftback was laid in voluminous cubes. The second method gives a smaller result, but is more correct from a practical point of view. If you use one method, the difference will be approximately half as much. Don't forget that you can fold the rear seat, and then the luggage compartment capacity will increase to 760 liters - this is more than that of the Kalina station wagon (670 liters)!

Drive with little blood

It depends on the configuration of the liftback technical stuffing. The “Standard” version comes with suspension from previous generation"Kalina", "long" steering rack(such machines do not have an amplifier) ​​and minimal sound insulation. In the “Norma”, which already has an EUR and a “short” rack, the front suspension has increased caster, and the sound insulation package has also been expanded. Finally, “Lux” can boast of stiffer suspensions and the most complete set of anti-noise. Therefore, two “Grants” in the test turned out to be very useful different configurations. There are no revelations on the Norma: the omnivorous chassis is combined with a retuned, but still far from ideal, electric booster. In addition, VAZ workers mentioned a new vacuum booster and most importantly brake cylinder. I also did not notice any global improvements in braking.

Impatiently, I change to “Lux” - and am not disappointed. Well, firstly, the presence of additional sound insulation is noticeable. Chassis tougher, but there is no discomfort. The car has become more pleasant and reliable to drive, having stopped dancing on bumps. The amplifier settings are the same, but there is no need to adjust the trajectory with an empty steering wheel. Plus there is less roll in corners. Although a couple of times I still remembered the car with regular suspension. True, this happened on very “dead” asphalt.

"Automatic" is getting cheaper

The main upcoming innovation is the combination of a Jatco automatic transmission with an 8-valve 87-horsepower engine. The approximate price of a car with such a power unit in the “Norma” configuration is no more than 370,000 rubles. By the end of the year top configurations will be equipped with side airbags and CityGuide navigation. Now the map will be on the central monitor, and only hints will remain on the instrument cluster display.

It is cut quite well and the material is not bad. The screws were painted black, they no longer shine. The shelf is covered with fabric, the quality is as on Skoda Octavia. She even has clamps. She is also filming.

The trunk mat is covered with felt as a sound-proofing material. It rises and a niche with a full-fledged spare tire opens. The seats fold down, but the headrests need to be lowered before doing so. At the same time, move the front seats as far forward as possible.

The trunk is quite well made, the seals do not stick out anywhere, and there is no crooked cut anywhere. There is only one handle for closing, but it is not very convenient to use; you will have to hold on to the outside of the lid all the time.

The trunk size is 440 liters in the standard version, but if you fold the back row, the useful volume almost doubles.

Options

The buyer can choose from three configurations of the Lada Granta liftback:

The other day we took a test drive in a Lada Granta liftback equipped with an AMT robot. Feedback and impressions are in today's material.

Granta in the liftback body immediately after its appearance caused mixed opinions. Some people didn't like its design, others didn't like it. Indeed, the rear of the car has changed significantly. Compared to the Grant sedan, the liftback looks a little more modern and fresh. In addition, in this body the car does not look as bulky as a sedan.


To be honest, in the modern AVTOVAZ line, this liftback looks very good. Unlike the sedan, many minor “sores” and childhood illnesses were improved on the liftback. For example, doors open and close with much less effort and noise, thanks to new closers. Hooks for attaching bags appeared in the trunk, plastic cables for securing the rear parcel shelf were replaced by elastic laces that do not burst in the cold, etc. The combination of these changes creates a more pleasant perception of the car.


The trunk volume of the Lada Granta liftback is a good 440 liters, and with folded rear seats reaches 760 liters. This is where the main advantage of the liftback body manifests itself - the large tailgate opens completely and ensures ease of loading and unloading.


The interior design is exactly the same as on the sedan - everything is simple and without frills, a regular interior budget car. Naturally, the interior also depends on the configuration - the base will not have a large LCD monitor and other goodies.



Under the hood of the test car there is a 106-horsepower 16-valve engine paired with an AMT robot. Behind this abbreviation lies an ordinary robotic box transmission, which is successfully used by many manufacturers. It's simple and cheap solution, popular in budget segment. "Robots" with one clutch were installed on some Peugeot models, Renault, Toyota, etc.

In the cabin, instead of a gearshift lever, an AMT selector is installed, and there is also no clutch pedal. The selector has a mode of neutral, forward, reverse, and also manual mode. Unlike a traditional automatic, the AMT does not have a “Parking” mode; the car must be left in neutral when parked or turned off while the gear is engaged. This is one of the disadvantages of the Lada Granta with AMT - in winter after washing the car, in order to avoid freezing of the pads, you will have to leave it with the gear engaged and without hand brake, which will not allow you to use the engine autostart.


Another disadvantage of AMT on the Lada Granta is maneuvering in a parking lot. The fact is that when the brake is released, the car does not start moving, like a classic automatic. In order for the car to move, you need to increase the speed of the gas pedal. Sometimes this causes jolts when maneuvering the front and in reverse in a parking lot - you need to get used to it.

Oh yes, the robot won’t go without warming up either - when you try to start in the winter immediately after starting the engine, the car does not react in any way to turning on the driving mode and pressing the gas. But a couple of minutes after launch - already please.

On the move, the Lada Granta behaves like typical car with a robot. Here you won’t be able to just drive and not think about anything, like in a car with a conventional automatic transmission. You need to understand that a robot is the same mechanics that is simply switched not by a person, but by electronics. Therefore, between switching there is a noticeable pause, and sometimes even a noticeable “peck”. However, there is a trick here too. After a while you begin to intuitively feel the moment of gear shifting. If you slightly release the gas pedal before doing this, the switching occurs very smoothly and quickly. Much better than many manual drivers switch.

Another nice feature is that if you press the gas to the floor, the robot in each gear allows the engine to spin up almost to the red zone of the tachometer, and then quickly switches to the next speed. There is also a mode manual switching: If you need to accelerate sharply, you can downshift manually. This is useful, for example, when overtaking on the highway.

In general, Granta and the robot have both disadvantages and advantages. But in terms of price, the robot will cost the buyer significantly less than classic machine gun. In principle, it’s a pretty good alternative for those who are tired of working with the clutch and gearshift lever, but don’t want to overpay for an automatic.

Buyers were puzzled by the question: Granta Liftback or Sedan. To finally make your choice before purchasing, we will consider each of the models in detail.

Comparative technical parameters Sedan and Liftback

The development of the Grant was caused by the need to move away from the outdated forms of the Samara, the clumsy hood and bumper. The models were given ergonomics, fluidity, athleticism, and fit.

The height of the roof in the Liftback decreased by 0.8 cm, but this did not in any way affect the comfort of passengers back row seats.
