Against this background, the matrix Multibeam head optics with 84 LEDs no longer seem like something special, although each diode is electronically controlled individually, as a result of which the headlights do not blind the drivers of other cars, while providing excellent visibility in the dark.
Specifications
Like the previous version, the new 2018-2019 Mercedes E class is available in sedan, station wagon, coupe and convertible versions, and the four-door additionally has a version with an increased wheelbase (there may be a chic version under the Maybach sub-brand).
As for the latter, it has grown (+ 65 mm) on the standard version of the sedan (up to 2 939 mm). The car also became slightly wider and longer by 43 millimeters (4,923 mm), which made the E-Klasse 213 more spacious.
But the weight of the new model was reduced (by about 100 kg, depending on the modification), including through the use of a modular MRA platform, as well as fenders made of aluminum, hood, trunk lid and a number of other structural elements. Plus, the share of high-strength steels was increased.
All versions of the new E-Class have become more economical and environmentally friendly. And not only due to the engines themselves, but also due to improved aerodynamics - the drag coefficient was reduced from 0.25 for its predecessor to 0.23, and active shutters are now installed not only behind the radiator grille, but also in the front bumper (not at all machines).
Customers can choose from three suspension options: a standard comfortable one with steel springs, lowered by 15 mm in the Avantgarde version, and a low sport suspension with pneumatic elements and stiffness adjustment. Moreover, all are supplemented with adaptive shock absorbers.
Engines
The Mercedes E-Class 2018-2019 powertrain lineup includes a variety of gasoline and diesel engines. But at first, only two engines were offered for the sedan - these are 2.0-liter fours with a capacity of 184 hp. (300 Nm) on the E 200 and 195 forces (400 Nm) - on the diesel E 200d. Both are equipped with a 9-band 9G-Tronic automatic transmission.
Later, there were modifications of the E 350d with a 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine producing 258 hp. (620 Nm), all-wheel drive E 400 4MATIC with a three-liter petrol "six" with a return of 333 hp. and 480 Nm of torque. There is also a 245 hp engine and an initial 150 hp diesel.
And the new Mercedes E is available in a hybrid version E 350e with a total output of 279 forces and 600 Nm. It picks up a hundred from a standstill in 6.2 seconds, its average fuel consumption in the combined cycle is declared at 2.1 liters per 100 km, and on electric traction it is able to cover a distance of up to 30 kilometers.
At the top of the range is located, under the hood of which, instead of the previous 5.5-liter V8 biturbo, there is a 4.0-liter "eight" with a capacity of 571 and 612 "horses". And it is also paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
How much is
The European premiere of the Mercedes E-class in the new W213 body took place in March at the Geneva Motor Show on the 16th, and the first cars reached Russian dealers in April.
At first, we had two versions available - the gasoline E 200 was estimated at 2,970,000 rubles, the diesel E 220d costs from 3,660,000 rubles. Later, versions appeared with an initial 150-horsepower diesel engine E 200d (3,030,000), a 245-horsepower E 300 (from 3,520,000), an all-wheel drive E 400 4MATIC (from 4,340,000) and a "heated" E 43 (from 5,200,000 ).

For front riders, the fifth generation E-Class provides comfortable seats with a carefully adjusted profile, good lateral support and a bunch of electrical adjustments, which are optionally replaced with "active" seats with variable grip. The rear sofa gives the royal space to two passengers, but the third one may turn out to be nominal due to the high central tunnel.
The luggage compartment of a full-size German sedan in the "stowed" state holds 540 liters of luggage. The “gallery” is folded in three parts, but a smooth but noticeable step prevents the formation of a flat floor.

The maximum capabilities of such a sedan are fixed at the level of 250 km / h, acceleration to 100 km / h does not go out in 5.2 seconds, and the "appetite" fits into 7.9 liters in the combined cycle.
- Diesel versions E200d and E220d(exclusively rear-wheel drive) are "armed" with in-line "four" 2.0 liters (1950 cubic centimeters) with direct fuel supply, 16-valve layout and turbocharging. In the first solution, the engine generates 150 "horses" at 3200-4800 rpm and 360 Nm of torque at 1400-2800 rpm, and in the second - 195 forces at 3800 rpm and 400 Nm at 1600-2800 rpm ... Such characteristics allow the four-door to leave behind the initial "hundred" in 7.3-8.4 seconds and gain 224-240 km / h, while consuming no more than 4.3 liters of "diesel" in the "highway / city" mode.
At the heart of the "fifth" Mercedes-Benz E-class is the "rear-wheel drive" MRA architecture with independent suspensions of all wheels: a double-wishbone system is involved in the front part, and a multi-link system on the rear axle. The chassis with steel springs is available in three solutions - regular, with 15 mm lower ground clearance and with adaptive dampers. Optionally, the car is equipped with Air Body Control air suspension with two-chamber pneumatic elements, one-tube shock absorbers and three operating modes.
The body of the German sedan is a mix of steel and aluminum (it accounts for 16%). The bonnet, front fenders, luggage cover and suspension mounts are molded from "winged metal".
The electric motor of the power steering at the four-door is mounted on a rail with a variable gear ratio. "In a circle" the car is endowed with ventilated discs of the brake center, which are assisted by many modern "gadgets" (ABS, EBD, BAS and others).
